Thanks for joining us. You guys served for more than three decades in local church ministry. I\u2019m guessing, during that time, you saw the issue we\u2019re going to be talking about today\u2014sexuality and gender issues\u2014move from something that was kind of on the back burner to something that was front and center, something where people were confused about how to respond, about how to demonstrate kindness and grace and compassion, while still holding to the truth as they interact with other people around these kinds of issues. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> In 1990, when we started, I don\u2019t remember a single conversation about this topic. I really don\u2019t\u2014not that it wasn\u2019t important\u2014it just wasn\u2019t at the forefront of people\u2019s minds like it is today. I can\u2019t go a week now\u2014in the last eight, nine, ten years\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Wow. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> \u2014without discussions about this\u2014good ones\/really needed discussions; but people coming to our church, on weekends, wanting to know: \u201cWhat is your view on homosexuality? What is your stance?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> What are wives and moms\u2014what\u2019s the conversation like with them? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> I was just going to say, in the past five years, I can\u2019t even tell you how many moms are coming up to me, desperate. Kids are coming to their parents\u2014especially, their moms\u2014saying: \u201cHelp me. I don\u2019t know what to do, and this is who I am.\u201d The <em>moms<\/em> are coming to me saying: \u201cHelp <em>us<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> \u201cAs a church, what are we saying? How do we help our kids?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Well, we have, here, a book. Let me just read what Rosaria Butterfield said about this book\u2014and Rosaria has been a guest on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>\u2014she said, \u201cYou\u2019re holding in your hands the most important humanly-composed book about biblical sexuality and godly living for our times.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> Wow. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> We\u2019ve got the guy who wrote that book with us today. He is back\u2014Christopher Yuan\u2014welcome back to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Oh, thanks, Bob, for having me back. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> What a <em>nice<\/em> thing for her to say about this book. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> I couldn\u2019t believe it. I\u2019m humbled, and she is an <em>incredible<\/em> friend. I call her my \u201cbig sis.\u201d She calls my mom and dad, \u201cMom and Dad\u201d; so we are truly brothers and sisters in Christ. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> This is your second book. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Your first book is a memoir; and the last time you were here, we unpacked your story; your mom was with us. In fact, I\u2019d just say to our listeners, \u201cIf you haven\u2019t heard Christopher\u2019s story, go to FamilyLifeToday.com and listen to the podcast of your story.\u201d It\u2019s a remarkable story that took you from dental school to drug dealing\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014to prison\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014and along the way, same-sex attraction. You were living in the gay lifestyle. In prison, you started reading the Bible. God gets a hold of your life. You get out of prison. It was funny\u2014you said, \u201cI got out of prison,\u201d and you \u201cwound up as a student at Moody Bible Institute.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Yes! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Everybody was complaining about the rules; and you went, \u201cHey, the rules are great!\u201d [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> \u201cWhat rules?!\u201d [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u201cI can leave my room when I want to.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> \u2014\u201canytime,\u201d\u2014that\u2019s right; that\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> This book, <em>Holy Sexuality and the Gospel<\/em>, is moving away from memoir and moving into: \u201cLet\u2019s grapple with what the Bible has to say about this issue.\u201d A lot of prayer\/a lot of blood, sweat, and tears, went into writing this book. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Yes; yes, essentially, my first book\u2014which I think was really unique, written from a mother and a prodigal; you know, not many stories are out there helping mothers to see, \u201cThis is what my kid is thinking,\u201d\u2014but I introduced this concept, toward the end of my book\u2014that I just used this phrase, \u201choly sexuality.\u201d I just introduced that concept, so this was in 2011 that my first book came out. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSince then, I <em>knew<\/em> I had to flesh that concept out. It took all this time to do that. Essentially, my book is a theology of sexuality\u2014not to scare people away with theology\u2014because we think, \u201cI\u2019m not a theologian.\u201d But actually, that\u2019s not true; we are all theologians. If we are a Christian\/if we have any knowledge of God\u2014essentially, theology is knowledge of God\u2014then, we are theologians; so that was my hope with this new book. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> I\u2019ll add this: as I read it\u2014yes; it\u2019s full of theology\/it\u2019s very grounded in theology\u2014but it\u2019s very practical. Read it, because it isn\u2019t just theology; it\u2019s the <em>foundation<\/em> you have to have. I want to make sure you define holy sexuality; but then, \u201cHow do you live it out?\u201d Let\u2019s go there. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> I had this amazing theology professor my first year at Moody; and he told us: \u201cBad theology leads to apathy. Good theology <em>compels<\/em> you into action.\u201d That\u2019s why I want to give people good theology\u2014that you can\u2019t sit on your seat anymore\/you can\u2019t sit on your rear anymore\u2014you have to go and <em>do<\/em> the work of God. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tEssentially, holy sexuality is this: it is two paths\u2014either chastity in singleness or faithfulness in marriage\u2014that completely, and accurately, and precisely tells us how we <em>all<\/em> should live. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Now, when you say, \u201cchastity in singleness,\u201d that encompasses, not just our behavior\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014but that encompasses how we approach our thought life. It\u2019s bigger than just: \u201cWhat are your actions?\u201d; right? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. I explain it more, and I fill those words in a little bit; but why did I use \u201cchastity\u201d? Why did I use \u201csingleness\u201d? Why \u201cfaithfulness\u201d? Why \u201cmarriage\u201d? Chastity\u2014it\u2019s more than just abstinence\u2014abstaining is just not doing something. God doesn\u2019t give us a call of \u201cNo.\u201d That\u2019s why I like chastity; chastity is about purity, holiness, wholeness, faithfulness. That\u2019s why I like that word, chastity, much better than just merely not doing something. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSingleness, which is the state of being unmarried\u2014not necessarily a vocation, or a calling, or whatever\u2014which maybe some are\u2014but I minister to too many people, who are unmarried, who say, \u201cI didn\u2019t choose this.\u201d That\u2019s why I chose \u201csingleness.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tFaithfulness\u2014I\u2019m open to marriage; so if God provides for me a woman to marry, I don\u2019t want to just be, you know: \u2018You\u2019re the only woman that I\u2019m going to be sexually intimate with. You\u2019re the only woman I\u2019m going\u2026\u2019\u201d\u2014no; it\u2019s going to mean much more than that; right? As a single man, I don\u2019t have that experience; but I know that that\u2019s what I want to commit to. It is being faithful to her\u2014not only physically\u2014emotionally, relationally, spiritually\u2014I\u2019m committed to her. That\u2019s why I chose that word, \u201cfaithfulness,\u201d as opposed to just other words. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> We often talk about the fact that keeping your vows in marriage doesn\u2019t mean just staying married, because you vowed more than that. When you\u2019re talking about faithfulness, you\u2019re saying: \u201cSexual intimacy is not just about exclusivity. It\u2019s about <em>more<\/em> than that.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Let me jump back to singleness; because we\u2019ve got folks, who are wondering, \u201cWhat should my sexuality look like\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> Right; I\u2019m\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014\u201cin that season when I\u2019m single?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> \u2014I\u2019m listening to those words and: \u201cThis is a high bar.\u201d Like especially in today\u2019s culture, you\u2019re setting a high bar. What does that look like?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Yes; well, I mean, I think we need to, first, realize that we have to distinguish ourselves from the world; because the world is really saying, \u201cYour sexuality should delight you, and it should define you.\u201d I look at God\u2019s Word, and it\u2019s like: \u201cNo! <em>Christ<\/em> should delight me; <em>Christ<\/em> should define me,\u201d\u2014that\u2019s the big difference. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI don\u2019t want to sound trite or just make it sound like I\u2019m just making it overly simplistic; it\u2019s not! I mean, but if we look at\u2014you know, since the Reformation\u2014the reformers talking about union with Christ. I like to see that\u2014how pastors and people in seminaries and our teachers are coming back to that and helping us to really understand what that means\u2014<em>I<\/em> see that as that is our identity <em>in Christ<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe need to first recognize how that is incorrect\u2014the world\u2019s thinking about\u2014\u201cWe need sex.\u201d People talking about like this abstinence-only program. There is one congresswoman that even said that, not only is that unfair, it\u2019s cruel. Really?!\u2014to not have sex; that\u2019s cruel?! So we need to resist that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut again, how we live should not simply be a \u201cNo.\u201d There has to be much more to what God is really compelling us <em>to<\/em>. We need to realize that God has given us affection, and these affections for relationship are <em>real<\/em>. I\u2019m not saying, though, that I think our desire to have non-sexual, non-romantic desires are part of our sexuality. I don\u2019t think they are; because if we go that route, then that would make everyone at this table gay, or bi-, or whatever; right? My mother has a best friend, a sister in the Lord, that she desires to be close with. That then doesn\u2019t make her a lesbian. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tInstead of just saying, \u201cHow do we deal with our sexuality?\u201d I think, \u201cHow do we deal with our desires for intimacy?\u201d That intimacy could be physical; that intimacy could be relational, etc.; and <em>that<\/em>, to me, points us to the true family, which is the church. That was one of my goals with writing my book. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAny author, when they write a book, they don\u2019t want to just write another book and just add something in that kind of someone has already said. What I kind of felt lacking in many of the previous books on homosexuality was this absence of the local church. They are talking about: \u201cWe need to do this,\u201d \u201cWe need to do that,\u201d\u2014and good things\u2014or even talking about the biblical texts and ethics\u2014you know, \u201cIs it right?\u201d or \u201cIs it wrong?\u201d\u2014how clearly Scripture says that same-sex relationships are <em>not<\/em> God\u2019s will. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, there was this missing piece of the church because, for <em>me<\/em>, the <em>church<\/em> was a <em>key<\/em> part of my growth, and my healing, and my freedom. Without that, there isn\u2019t any because\u2014yes, like I said before, union with Christ; that\u2019s everything\u2014but then, we focus so much just upon kind of just the person of Jesus Christ that we, then, forget about the body of Christ. You can\u2019t love Christ without loving the body of Christ. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> And when you say the church is vital here, you\u2019re not saying, \u201cYou really need to make sure you attend, you know, a couple of services\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014\u201cin a month.\u201d You\u2019re talking about active engagement with biblical community. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Yes; and discipleship. Actually, that\u2019s how I ended my book\u2014discipleship. Anyone in ministry\u2014they talk about discipleship\u2014but when I look at how discipleship is done, I don\u2019t see it done the way that the Bible tells us to. Discipleship is not a support group\u2014not to say that support groups are not helpful; I think they are\u2014but support groups are not meant to replace discipleship. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe context in which discipleship is meant to occur is the body of Christ, which means having headship\/which means having someone speaking into your life. Like me and my best friend\u2014that\u2019s not discipleship\u2014that\u2019s friendship; you know, that can be accountability\u2014but God has provided us the body of Christ, with pastors and leaders, who are to be our spiritual shepherds to guide us in that. Unfortunately, I see that kind of as a missing link\/almost an afterthought in what\u2014sometimes, in this conversation. That\u2019s why I want to kind of infuse that back into the conversation. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> Yet, so many people, I think\u2014as a pastor, I\u2019m always thinking of the person that\u2019s not coming to my church or any church\u2014so the unchurched single guy\/married guy\u2014you name it\u2014out there, who my perspective would be\u2014and this is how I thought before I ever got to be part of a Christ-centered community church\u2014I thought, \u201cThe <em>last<\/em> place I want to go to think about my sexuality\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> \u2014\u201cis church. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> \u201cI know what they think. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> \u201cI know their theology,\u201d\u2014whether I did or not, I thought I did\u2014\u201cand I know what the people there are like.\u201d So everything you\u2019re saying right now, I\u2019m thinking, \u201cWell, the average guy is like, \u2018I\u2019m not going <em>there<\/em>.\u2019\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> Because when you even say the word, \u201choly sexuality,\u201d I know what it means\u2014if I\u2019m an unchurched guy\u2014\u201cIt means no sex\u2014<em>ever<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Right; yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> \u201cAnd those Christians never do have sex. If they do, it\u2019s only for reproduction.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> \u201cSex is bad.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> Right; exactly. You already talked about it\u2014it\u2019s got to be more than a \u201cNo.\u201d Talk to that guy, who is like, \u201cWhy would I even want to know\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> \u2014and woman.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> \u2014\u201cchurch\u201d\u2014yes; unchurched person, who has got a mindset like so many people, who listen to the culture, thinking: \u201cThis is my identity. Why would I go anywhere that combines holy, which means God,\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> \u2014\u201cand sexuality together? How can that be a good thing?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> This is why I want us to make the first thing the first thing. If I had a guy that I\u2019m talking to, who doesn\u2019t know Christ\u2014and he\u2019s wrestling with his sexuality, whether it\u2019s heterosexual promiscuity or whether it\u2019s same-sex relationships\u2014whatever it is; you know, those things that aren\u2019t blessed by God\u2014especially, if it\u2019s heterosexual promiscuity or even, maybe, he\u2019s committed to his girlfriend alone; but they are not married\u2014so these aren\u2019t things that are blessed by God. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf I know that they\u2019re not a Christian, I\u2019m not really going to address the sexuality. They might come at me and have these questions: \u201cWell, what do you think about sex before marriage?\u201d \u201cWhat do you think about same-sex marriage?\u201d I\u2019m going to say: \u201cLet\u2019s put that on a back-burner, and let\u2019s focus on the first thing; and that is, \u2018Is there even a God?\u2019\u201d\u2014because, honestly, why does it matter what God thinks if you don\u2019t even believe in God; right? [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> \u201cSo let\u2019s go to the first thing.\u201d This is why I think, as a Christian, sometimes, <em>we<\/em> forfeit our responsibility to preach and share the gospel. We push it into the hands of the church and the pastor, like: \u201cI want my neighbor to know Christ, so I invited him to church.\u201d Well, great; but have <em>you<\/em> invited him into your home and shared the gospel?\u201d\u2014or at least, I\u2019m not saying you need to just hit people over the head; I mean,\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014\u201ctell them your story.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Yes; right. I mean, like Rosaria Butterfield\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dave:<\/strong> Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> \u2014Pastor Smith\u2014he <em>knew<\/em> how hardheaded she was, and I\u2019m saying that because I know her really well. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> And she needed to be just softened. You need to live the gospel before you preach the gospel. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> I think we need to make the first thing first: it\u2019s faith in Christ. As Rosaria says so well: \u201cI was not saved out of homosexuality; I was saved out of unbelief.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWith a guy, who does not know Christ, I\u2019m just going to live the gospel\u2014invite him into my life, and wait for those God-moments to, then, be able to share the gospel. Then, once God begins working in that person\u2019s life, and the Holy Spirit is indwelling in that person and changing, then we\u2019re able to address these other issues; because they have\/their mind has gone from darkened understanding to be enlightened in Christ. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I\u2019ve shared this story before, but it\u2019s because it had such a profound impact on me the first time I heard it. Tim Keller, who was the pastor for years at Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York\u2014in his early years there, he said, whenever he\u2019d get done preaching\u2014he\u2019d say, \u201cAmen\u201d; and all these New Yorkers would flood forward and say, \u201cI\u2019ve got a question for you.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe said: \u201cOne Sunday, a woman comes forward\u2014and there is a whole crowd around me\u2014and she says, \u2018I have a question for you.\u2019 She says, \u2018I\u2019ve been coming here for three or four weeks. I\u2019m thinking I might want to join the church.\u2019 She said: \u2018I\u2019m a lesbian. Would I have to give up my lesbian relationship to be a member here at the church?\u2019\u201d Here he is\u2014in front of the firing squad; right?\u2014with that question. Everybody turns and looks at the pastor in New York and says, \u201cHow are you going to answer this one?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt was brilliant; he said, \u201cI think you\u2019re asking the wrong question.\u201d She said, \u201cWhat do you mean?\u201d He said: \u201cWell, I think you need to be asking the question: \u2018Who do you think Jesus is; and do you believe He is who we have been saying He is and who we believe He is?\u2019 If you <em>don\u2019t<\/em>, then there\u2019s no sense in joining the church. If you do, that\u2019s going have implications for <em>every<\/em> area of your life\u2014not just your sexuality\u2014<em>every<\/em> area of your life; but if He is who we say He is, you don\u2019t have any other option than to surrender to Him.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I thought, \u201cBoy, you talk about diffusing a bomb.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> But he did the same thing you\u2019re talking about, saying\u2014somebody comes in and says: \u201cI want to know about this question,\u201d or \u201c\u2026that question.\u201d You say, \u201cLet\u2019s just pull back and say: \u2018What do you believe about God?\u2019 \u2018Who do you believe Jesus is?\u2019 \u2018What do you think this is all about?\u2019\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Yes; I mean\u2014it\u2019s taking, you know, Jesus\u2019 words: \u201cIf anyone will come after Me\u2026\u201d I mean, that\u2019s all of us\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> \u2014that\u2019s not just some. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u201cAnyone\u201d in the Greek means <em>anyone<\/em>; right? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Anyone; right. [Laughter] It doesn\u2019t mean just pastors, just missionaries, just church leaders\u2014\u201c\u2026anyone would come after Me,\u201d\u2014he\/she\u2014\u201cmust\u201d\u2014\u2014that\u2019s \u201cmust\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> \u2014not <em>sort o<\/em>f\/not <em>maybe<\/em>\u2014\u201c<em>must<\/em> deny himself, pick up his cross, and follow Me.\u201d Even the \u201c\u2026carry your cross,\u201d Luke adds \u201cdaily.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think we\u2019ve misunderstood that. We think carry our cross is \u201ccarry this burden\u201d: \u201cOkay; my boss\u2014he\u2019s just\/he\u2019s an unbeliever\u2014and he\u2019s just so hard on me. I\u2019m just\u2014I just have to carry my cross, and I just have to grit and bear it.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe cross is probably the most <em>gruesome<\/em> form of <em>death<\/em> anyone could ever experience\u2014<em>that<\/em> is what we are supposed to carry\u2014that\u2019s the symbol of that, so we need to die. I don\u2019t know how else to sanitize that, but it is about just death to self so that Christ can live in us. That\u2019s\/to me, that\u2019s a <em>glorious<\/em> thing; because I know what I\u2019m capable of, and I want Christ to be living in me. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> So let\u2019s say\/let\u2019s get down to some practical things. Let\u2019s say I have my son, or my daughter, or my friend, or a coworker come up and tell me, \u201cI have same-sex attraction,\u201d or \u201cI\u2019ve been living a lifestyle that the church wouldn\u2019t accept.\u201d What\u2019s the best response?\u2014you know, because everybody is like: \u201cI don\u2019t want to say the wrong thing,\u201d \u201cI don\u2019t want to\u2026\u201d When you think about\u2014if somebody is carrying that cross\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> \u2014they are having these desires, and they are not knowing what to do, but they do want to follow Jesus. Are you saying the best thing we can do is to love them\/to love them to Christ? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Well, so, okay; first\u2014yes, it is love. I kind of begin in my book, though, kind of tweaking that statement a little bit; because the world says, \u201cLove is love is love\u201d; right?\u2014you know\u2014\u201cWe just need to love\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> \u2014\u201cand accept.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> \u2014\u201cthe gay community. The Christians\u2014what you\u2019re doing\u2014you\u2019re <em>not<\/em> loving.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tMy point, actually, is that I don\u2019t find issue that we need to be more loving. I believe we need to know what that love is grounded in. All love is grounded in <em>truth<\/em>. If you have the <em>wrong<\/em> truth, you will have the wrong love. If you have the <em>correct<\/em> truth, you will have the correct form. If you have God\u2019s truth, you will, then, be able to love as God loves. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf you have a loved one that comes to you and confides with you\/opens up, I suggest the first thing is to thank them\u2014\u201cThank you,\u201d\u2014and say: \u201cYou know what? I know how hard it was for you to open up to me. Thank you for trusting me. Thank you for opening up to me. Tell me more.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne thing you don\u2019t want to do, as a parent, is say that\u2014\u201cThank you,\u201d and they\u2019ll say, \u201cI love you,\u201d\u2014don\u2019t follow that up, right at that moment\u2014, with \u201cbut\u2026\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> The reason\u2014and I\u2019m not saying that you don\u2019t believe that anymore\u2014I\u2019m just saying, for that moment, just listen. Save that \u201c\u2026but\u2026\u201d for later; because if you say that \u201c..but\u2026\u201d at that moment, you\u2019ve just erased what you\u2019ve just said. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> You better have more conversations after that; because then, you can talk about\u2014and honestly, I can almost guarantee\u2014if you are living for Christ, if you\u2019re in God\u2019s Word, and you\u2019re growing in Christ\u2014they know what you believe. But what they are questioning is whether you\u2019re going to accept them or not. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes; we\u2019re going to talk more about these kind of interactions as we continue our conversation this week. You deal with this in the book, <em>Holy Sexuality and the Gospel<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI just keep coming back, guys, to what is at the heart of what we\u2019ve talked about today\u2014pretty simple\u2014chastity in singleness; faithfulness in marriage. We live in a culture, today, that just says: \u201cThat\u2019s crazy. That\u2019s not how you think or act.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> I would add, \u201cIt is simple; it\u2019s not easy.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dave:<\/strong> It\u2019s actually simple and very profound in terms of how to live it out. I love the clarity of the simplicity of it\u2014but\/and I\u2019m looking forward to talking more about: \u201cOkay, what does that actually look like to live out?\u201d\u2014because is not easy. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> That doesn\u2019t mean it\u2019s bad. It means it\u2019s worth pursuing, because it\u2019s a high bar that\u2019s worth living for. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Well, when you\u2019ve got a book here that\u2014again, I\u2019m going to come back to what Rosaria Butterfield said: \u201cThe most important humanly-composed book about biblical sexuality and godly living for our times,\u201d\u2014that\u2019s worth getting a copy of and spending some time reading. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> I mean, that\u2014she said it\u2019s right up there with the Bible. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> She\u2014[Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Well, I don\u2019t know about that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> It\u2019s like: \u201cWow!\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes, yes; it\u2019s pretty significant, and it is a great book; although, I wouldn\u2019t put it at the Bible level. Thanks for joining us. You guys served for more than three decades in local church ministry. I\u2019m guessing, during that time, you saw the issue we\u2019re going to be talking about today\u2014sexuality and gender issues\u2014move from something that was kind of on the back burner to something that was front and center, something where people were confused about how to respond, about how to demonstrate kindness and grace and compassion, while still holding to the truth as they interact with other people around these kinds of issues. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> In 1990, when we started, I don\u2019t remember a single conversation about this topic. I really don\u2019t\u2014not that it wasn\u2019t important\u2014it just wasn\u2019t at the forefront of people\u2019s minds like it is today. I can\u2019t go a week now\u2014in the last eight, nine, ten years\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Wow. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> \u2014without discussions about this\u2014good ones\/really needed discussions; but people coming to our church, on weekends, wanting to know: \u201cWhat is your view on homosexuality? What is your stance?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> What are wives and moms\u2014what\u2019s the conversation like with them? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> I was just going to say, in the past five years, I can\u2019t even tell you how many moms are coming up to me, desperate. Kids are coming to their parents\u2014especially, their moms\u2014saying: \u201cHelp me. I don\u2019t know what to do, and this is who I am.\u201d The <em>moms<\/em> are coming to me saying: \u201cHelp <em>us<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> \u201cAs a church, what are we saying? How do we help our kids?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Well, we have, here, a book. Let me just read what Rosaria Butterfield said about this book\u2014and Rosaria has been a guest on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>\u2014she said, \u201cYou\u2019re holding in your hands the most important humanly-composed book about biblical sexuality and godly living for our times.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> Wow. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> We\u2019ve got the guy who wrote that book with us today. He is back\u2014Christopher Yuan\u2014welcome back to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Oh, thanks, Bob, for having me back. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> What a <em>nice<\/em> thing for her to say about this book. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> I couldn\u2019t believe it. I\u2019m humbled, and she is an <em>incredible<\/em> friend. I call her my \u201cbig sis.\u201d She calls my mom and dad, \u201cMom and Dad\u201d; so we are truly brothers and sisters in Christ. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> This is your second book. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Your first book is a memoir; and the last time you were here, we unpacked your story; your mom was with us. In fact, I\u2019d just say to our listeners, \u201cIf you haven\u2019t heard Christopher\u2019s story, go to FamilyLifeToday.com and listen to the podcast of your story.\u201d It\u2019s a remarkable story that took you from dental school to drug dealing\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014to prison\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014and along the way, same-sex attraction. You were living in the gay lifestyle. In prison, you started reading the Bible. God gets a hold of your life. You get out of prison. It was funny\u2014you said, \u201cI got out of prison,\u201d and you \u201cwound up as a student at Moody Bible Institute.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Yes! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Everybody was complaining about the rules; and you went, \u201cHey, the rules are great!\u201d [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> \u201cWhat rules?!\u201d [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u201cI can leave my room when I want to.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> \u2014\u201canytime,\u201d\u2014that\u2019s right; that\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> This book, <em>Holy Sexuality and the Gospel<\/em>, is moving away from memoir and moving into: \u201cLet\u2019s grapple with what the Bible has to say about this issue.\u201d A lot of prayer\/a lot of blood, sweat, and tears, went into writing this book. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Yes; yes, essentially, my first book\u2014which I think was really unique, written from a mother and a prodigal; you know, not many stories are out there helping mothers to see, \u201cThis is what my kid is thinking,\u201d\u2014but I introduced this concept, toward the end of my book\u2014that I just used this phrase, \u201choly sexuality.\u201d I just introduced that concept, so this was in 2011 that my first book came out. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSince then, I <em>knew<\/em> I had to flesh that concept out. It took all this time to do that. Essentially, my book is a theology of sexuality\u2014not to scare people away with theology\u2014because we think, \u201cI\u2019m not a theologian.\u201d But actually, that\u2019s not true; we are all theologians. If we are a Christian\/if we have any knowledge of God\u2014essentially, theology is knowledge of God\u2014then, we are theologians; so that was my hope with this new book. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> I\u2019ll add this: as I read it\u2014yes; it\u2019s full of theology\/it\u2019s very grounded in theology\u2014but it\u2019s very practical. Read it, because it isn\u2019t just theology; it\u2019s the <em>foundation<\/em> you have to have. I want to make sure you define holy sexuality; but then, \u201cHow do you live it out?\u201d Let\u2019s go there. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> I had this amazing theology professor my first year at Moody; and he told us: \u201cBad theology leads to apathy. Good theology <em>compels<\/em> you into action.\u201d That\u2019s why I want to give people good theology\u2014that you can\u2019t sit on your seat anymore\/you can\u2019t sit on your rear anymore\u2014you have to go and <em>do<\/em> the work of God. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tEssentially, holy sexuality is this: it is two paths\u2014either chastity in singleness or faithfulness in marriage\u2014that completely, and accurately, and precisely tells us how we <em>all<\/em> should live. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Now, when you say, \u201cchastity in singleness,\u201d that encompasses, not just our behavior\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014but that encompasses how we approach our thought life. It\u2019s bigger than just: \u201cWhat are your actions?\u201d; right? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. I explain it more, and I fill those words in a little bit; but why did I use \u201cchastity\u201d? Why did I use \u201csingleness\u201d? Why \u201cfaithfulness\u201d? Why \u201cmarriage\u201d? Chastity\u2014it\u2019s more than just abstinence\u2014abstaining is just not doing something. God doesn\u2019t give us a call of \u201cNo.\u201d That\u2019s why I like chastity; chastity is about purity, holiness, wholeness, faithfulness. That\u2019s why I like that word, chastity, much better than just merely not doing something. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSingleness, which is the state of being unmarried\u2014not necessarily a vocation, or a calling, or whatever\u2014which maybe some are\u2014but I minister to too many people, who are unmarried, who say, \u201cI didn\u2019t choose this.\u201d That\u2019s why I chose \u201csingleness.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tFaithfulness\u2014I\u2019m open to marriage; so if God provides for me a woman to marry, I don\u2019t want to just be, you know: \u2018You\u2019re the only woman that I\u2019m going to be sexually intimate with. You\u2019re the only woman I\u2019m going\u2026\u2019\u201d\u2014no; it\u2019s going to mean much more than that; right? As a single man, I don\u2019t have that experience; but I know that that\u2019s what I want to commit to. It is being faithful to her\u2014not only physically\u2014emotionally, relationally, spiritually\u2014I\u2019m committed to her. That\u2019s why I chose that word, \u201cfaithfulness,\u201d as opposed to just other words. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> We often talk about the fact that keeping your vows in marriage doesn\u2019t mean just staying married, because you vowed more than that. When you\u2019re talking about faithfulness, you\u2019re saying: \u201cSexual intimacy is not just about exclusivity. It\u2019s about <em>more<\/em> than that.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Let me jump back to singleness; because we\u2019ve got folks, who are wondering, \u201cWhat should my sexuality look like\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> Right; I\u2019m\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014\u201cin that season when I\u2019m single?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> \u2014I\u2019m listening to those words and: \u201cThis is a high bar.\u201d Like especially in today\u2019s culture, you\u2019re setting a high bar. What does that look like?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Yes; well, I mean, I think we need to, first, realize that we have to distinguish ourselves from the world; because the world is really saying, \u201cYour sexuality should delight you, and it should define you.\u201d I look at God\u2019s Word, and it\u2019s like: \u201cNo! <em>Christ<\/em> should delight me; <em>Christ<\/em> should define me,\u201d\u2014that\u2019s the big difference. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI don\u2019t want to sound trite or just make it sound like I\u2019m just making it overly simplistic; it\u2019s not! I mean, but if we look at\u2014you know, since the Reformation\u2014the reformers talking about union with Christ. I like to see that\u2014how pastors and people in seminaries and our teachers are coming back to that and helping us to really understand what that means\u2014<em>I<\/em> see that as that is our identity <em>in Christ<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe need to first recognize how that is incorrect\u2014the world\u2019s thinking about\u2014\u201cWe need sex.\u201d People talking about like this abstinence-only program. There is one congresswoman that even said that, not only is that unfair, it\u2019s cruel. Really?!\u2014to not have sex; that\u2019s cruel?! So we need to resist that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut again, how we live should not simply be a \u201cNo.\u201d There has to be much more to what God is really compelling us <em>to<\/em>. We need to realize that God has given us affection, and these affections for relationship are <em>real<\/em>. I\u2019m not saying, though, that I think our desire to have non-sexual, non-romantic desires are part of our sexuality. I don\u2019t think they are; because if we go that route, then that would make everyone at this table gay, or bi-, or whatever; right? My mother has a best friend, a sister in the Lord, that she desires to be close with. That then doesn\u2019t make her a lesbian. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tInstead of just saying, \u201cHow do we deal with our sexuality?\u201d I think, \u201cHow do we deal with our desires for intimacy?\u201d That intimacy could be physical; that intimacy could be relational, etc.; and <em>that<\/em>, to me, points us to the true family, which is the church. That was one of my goals with writing my book. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAny author, when they write a book, they don\u2019t want to just write another book and just add something in that kind of someone has already said. What I kind of felt lacking in many of the previous books on homosexuality was this absence of the local church. They are talking about: \u201cWe need to do this,\u201d \u201cWe need to do that,\u201d\u2014and good things\u2014or even talking about the biblical texts and ethics\u2014you know, \u201cIs it right?\u201d or \u201cIs it wrong?\u201d\u2014how clearly Scripture says that same-sex relationships are <em>not<\/em> God\u2019s will. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, there was this missing piece of the church because, for <em>me<\/em>, the <em>church<\/em> was a <em>key<\/em> part of my growth, and my healing, and my freedom. Without that, there isn\u2019t any because\u2014yes, like I said before, union with Christ; that\u2019s everything\u2014but then, we focus so much just upon kind of just the person of Jesus Christ that we, then, forget about the body of Christ. You can\u2019t love Christ without loving the body of Christ. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> And when you say the church is vital here, you\u2019re not saying, \u201cYou really need to make sure you attend, you know, a couple of services\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014\u201cin a month.\u201d You\u2019re talking about active engagement with biblical community. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Yes; and discipleship. Actually, that\u2019s how I ended my book\u2014discipleship. Anyone in ministry\u2014they talk about discipleship\u2014but when I look at how discipleship is done, I don\u2019t see it done the way that the Bible tells us to. Discipleship is not a support group\u2014not to say that support groups are not helpful; I think they are\u2014but support groups are not meant to replace discipleship. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe context in which discipleship is meant to occur is the body of Christ, which means having headship\/which means having someone speaking into your life. Like me and my best friend\u2014that\u2019s not discipleship\u2014that\u2019s friendship; you know, that can be accountability\u2014but God has provided us the body of Christ, with pastors and leaders, who are to be our spiritual shepherds to guide us in that. Unfortunately, I see that kind of as a missing link\/almost an afterthought in what\u2014sometimes, in this conversation. That\u2019s why I want to kind of infuse that back into the conversation. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> Yet, so many people, I think\u2014as a pastor, I\u2019m always thinking of the person that\u2019s not coming to my church or any church\u2014so the unchurched single guy\/married guy\u2014you name it\u2014out there, who my perspective would be\u2014and this is how I thought before I ever got to be part of a Christ-centered community church\u2014I thought, \u201cThe <em>last<\/em> place I want to go to think about my sexuality\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> \u2014\u201cis church. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> \u201cI know what they think. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> \u201cI know their theology,\u201d\u2014whether I did or not, I thought I did\u2014\u201cand I know what the people there are like.\u201d So everything you\u2019re saying right now, I\u2019m thinking, \u201cWell, the average guy is like, \u2018I\u2019m not going <em>there<\/em>.\u2019\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> Because when you even say the word, \u201choly sexuality,\u201d I know what it means\u2014if I\u2019m an unchurched guy\u2014\u201cIt means no sex\u2014<em>ever<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Right; yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> \u201cAnd those Christians never do have sex. If they do, it\u2019s only for reproduction.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> \u201cSex is bad.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> Right; exactly. You already talked about it\u2014it\u2019s got to be more than a \u201cNo.\u201d Talk to that guy, who is like, \u201cWhy would I even want to know\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> \u2014and woman.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> \u2014\u201cchurch\u201d\u2014yes; unchurched person, who has got a mindset like so many people, who listen to the culture, thinking: \u201cThis is my identity. Why would I go anywhere that combines holy, which means God,\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> \u2014\u201cand sexuality together? How can that be a good thing?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> This is why I want us to make the first thing the first thing. If I had a guy that I\u2019m talking to, who doesn\u2019t know Christ\u2014and he\u2019s wrestling with his sexuality, whether it\u2019s heterosexual promiscuity or whether it\u2019s same-sex relationships\u2014whatever it is; you know, those things that aren\u2019t blessed by God\u2014especially, if it\u2019s heterosexual promiscuity or even, maybe, he\u2019s committed to his girlfriend alone; but they are not married\u2014so these aren\u2019t things that are blessed by God. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf I know that they\u2019re not a Christian, I\u2019m not really going to address the sexuality. They might come at me and have these questions: \u201cWell, what do you think about sex before marriage?\u201d \u201cWhat do you think about same-sex marriage?\u201d I\u2019m going to say: \u201cLet\u2019s put that on a back-burner, and let\u2019s focus on the first thing; and that is, \u2018Is there even a God?\u2019\u201d\u2014because, honestly, why does it matter what God thinks if you don\u2019t even believe in God; right? [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> \u201cSo let\u2019s go to the first thing.\u201d This is why I think, as a Christian, sometimes, <em>we<\/em> forfeit our responsibility to preach and share the gospel. We push it into the hands of the church and the pastor, like: \u201cI want my neighbor to know Christ, so I invited him to church.\u201d Well, great; but have <em>you<\/em> invited him into your home and shared the gospel?\u201d\u2014or at least, I\u2019m not saying you need to just hit people over the head; I mean,\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014\u201ctell them your story.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Yes; right. I mean, like Rosaria Butterfield\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dave:<\/strong> Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> \u2014Pastor Smith\u2014he <em>knew<\/em> how hardheaded she was, and I\u2019m saying that because I know her really well. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> And she needed to be just softened. You need to live the gospel before you preach the gospel. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> I think we need to make the first thing first: it\u2019s faith in Christ. As Rosaria says so well: \u201cI was not saved out of homosexuality; I was saved out of unbelief.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWith a guy, who does not know Christ, I\u2019m just going to live the gospel\u2014invite him into my life, and wait for those God-moments to, then, be able to share the gospel. Then, once God begins working in that person\u2019s life, and the Holy Spirit is indwelling in that person and changing, then we\u2019re able to address these other issues; because they have\/their mind has gone from darkened understanding to be enlightened in Christ. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I\u2019ve shared this story before, but it\u2019s because it had such a profound impact on me the first time I heard it. Tim Keller, who was the pastor for years at Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York\u2014in his early years there, he said, whenever he\u2019d get done preaching\u2014he\u2019d say, \u201cAmen\u201d; and all these New Yorkers would flood forward and say, \u201cI\u2019ve got a question for you.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe said: \u201cOne Sunday, a woman comes forward\u2014and there is a whole crowd around me\u2014and she says, \u2018I have a question for you.\u2019 She says, \u2018I\u2019ve been coming here for three or four weeks. I\u2019m thinking I might want to join the church.\u2019 She said: \u2018I\u2019m a lesbian. Would I have to give up my lesbian relationship to be a member here at the church?\u2019\u201d Here he is\u2014in front of the firing squad; right?\u2014with that question. Everybody turns and looks at the pastor in New York and says, \u201cHow are you going to answer this one?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt was brilliant; he said, \u201cI think you\u2019re asking the wrong question.\u201d She said, \u201cWhat do you mean?\u201d He said: \u201cWell, I think you need to be asking the question: \u2018Who do you think Jesus is; and do you believe He is who we have been saying He is and who we believe He is?\u2019 If you <em>don\u2019t<\/em>, then there\u2019s no sense in joining the church. If you do, that\u2019s going have implications for <em>every<\/em> area of your life\u2014not just your sexuality\u2014<em>every<\/em> area of your life; but if He is who we say He is, you don\u2019t have any other option than to surrender to Him.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I thought, \u201cBoy, you talk about diffusing a bomb.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> But he did the same thing you\u2019re talking about, saying\u2014somebody comes in and says: \u201cI want to know about this question,\u201d or \u201c\u2026that question.\u201d You say, \u201cLet\u2019s just pull back and say: \u2018What do you believe about God?\u2019 \u2018Who do you believe Jesus is?\u2019 \u2018What do you think this is all about?\u2019\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Yes; I mean\u2014it\u2019s taking, you know, Jesus\u2019 words: \u201cIf anyone will come after Me\u2026\u201d I mean, that\u2019s all of us\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> \u2014that\u2019s not just some. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u201cAnyone\u201d in the Greek means <em>anyone<\/em>; right? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Anyone; right. [Laughter] It doesn\u2019t mean just pastors, just missionaries, just church leaders\u2014\u201c\u2026anyone would come after Me,\u201d\u2014he\/she\u2014\u201cmust\u201d\u2014\u2014that\u2019s \u201cmust\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> \u2014not <em>sort o<\/em>f\/not <em>maybe<\/em>\u2014\u201c<em>must<\/em> deny himself, pick up his cross, and follow Me.\u201d Even the \u201c\u2026carry your cross,\u201d Luke adds \u201cdaily.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think we\u2019ve misunderstood that. We think carry our cross is \u201ccarry this burden\u201d: \u201cOkay; my boss\u2014he\u2019s just\/he\u2019s an unbeliever\u2014and he\u2019s just so hard on me. I\u2019m just\u2014I just have to carry my cross, and I just have to grit and bear it.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe cross is probably the most <em>gruesome<\/em> form of <em>death<\/em> anyone could ever experience\u2014<em>that<\/em> is what we are supposed to carry\u2014that\u2019s the symbol of that, so we need to die. I don\u2019t know how else to sanitize that, but it is about just death to self so that Christ can live in us. That\u2019s\/to me, that\u2019s a <em>glorious<\/em> thing; because I know what I\u2019m capable of, and I want Christ to be living in me. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> So let\u2019s say\/let\u2019s get down to some practical things. Let\u2019s say I have my son, or my daughter, or my friend, or a coworker come up and tell me, \u201cI have same-sex attraction,\u201d or \u201cI\u2019ve been living a lifestyle that the church wouldn\u2019t accept.\u201d What\u2019s the best response?\u2014you know, because everybody is like: \u201cI don\u2019t want to say the wrong thing,\u201d \u201cI don\u2019t want to\u2026\u201d When you think about\u2014if somebody is carrying that cross\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> \u2014they are having these desires, and they are not knowing what to do, but they do want to follow Jesus. Are you saying the best thing we can do is to love them\/to love them to Christ? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Well, so, okay; first\u2014yes, it is love. I kind of begin in my book, though, kind of tweaking that statement a little bit; because the world says, \u201cLove is love is love\u201d; right?\u2014you know\u2014\u201cWe just need to love\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> \u2014\u201cand accept.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> \u2014\u201cthe gay community. The Christians\u2014what you\u2019re doing\u2014you\u2019re <em>not<\/em> loving.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tMy point, actually, is that I don\u2019t find issue that we need to be more loving. I believe we need to know what that love is grounded in. All love is grounded in <em>truth<\/em>. If you have the <em>wrong<\/em> truth, you will have the wrong love. If you have the <em>correct<\/em> truth, you will have the correct form. If you have God\u2019s truth, you will, then, be able to love as God loves. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf you have a loved one that comes to you and confides with you\/opens up, I suggest the first thing is to thank them\u2014\u201cThank you,\u201d\u2014and say: \u201cYou know what? I know how hard it was for you to open up to me. Thank you for trusting me. Thank you for opening up to me. Tell me more.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne thing you don\u2019t want to do, as a parent, is say that\u2014\u201cThank you,\u201d and they\u2019ll say, \u201cI love you,\u201d\u2014don\u2019t follow that up, right at that moment\u2014, with \u201cbut\u2026\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> The reason\u2014and I\u2019m not saying that you don\u2019t believe that anymore\u2014I\u2019m just saying, for that moment, just listen. Save that \u201c\u2026but\u2026\u201d for later; because if you say that \u201c..but\u2026\u201d at that moment, you\u2019ve just erased what you\u2019ve just said. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> You better have more conversations after that; because then, you can talk about\u2014and honestly, I can almost guarantee\u2014if you are living for Christ, if you\u2019re in God\u2019s Word, and you\u2019re growing in Christ\u2014they know what you believe. But what they are questioning is whether you\u2019re going to accept them or not. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes; we\u2019re going to talk more about these kind of interactions as we continue our conversation this week. You deal with this in the book, <em>Holy Sexuality and the Gospel<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI just keep coming back, guys, to what is at the heart of what we\u2019ve talked about today\u2014pretty simple\u2014chastity in singleness; faithfulness in marriage. We live in a culture, today, that just says: \u201cThat\u2019s crazy. That\u2019s not how you think or act.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> I would add, \u201cIt is simple; it\u2019s not easy.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dave:<\/strong> It\u2019s actually simple and very profound in terms of how to live it out. I love the clarity of the simplicity of it\u2014but\/and I\u2019m looking forward to talking more about: \u201cOkay, what does that actually look like to live out?\u201d\u2014because is not easy. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> That doesn\u2019t mean it\u2019s bad. It means it\u2019s worth pursuing, because it\u2019s a high bar that\u2019s worth living for. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Well, when you\u2019ve got a book here that\u2014again, I\u2019m going to come back to what Rosaria Butterfield said: \u201cThe most important humanly-composed book about biblical sexuality and godly living for our times,\u201d\u2014that\u2019s worth getting a copy of and spending some time reading. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> I mean, that\u2014she said it\u2019s right up there with the Bible. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> She\u2014[Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christopher:<\/strong> Well, I don\u2019t know about that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> It\u2019s like: \u201cWow!\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes, yes; it\u2019s pretty significant, and it is a great book; although, I wouldn\u2019t put it at the Bible level.
