Maybe, you\u2019re good friends with them; and you\u2019re the one God\u2019s saying, \u201cGo tell them.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> We\u2019re talking about an important relationship with our spouse; but I\u2019m also listening to you, thinking, \u201cHow do you do your walk with God?\u201d Because I know you guys\u2014Jesus <em>oozes<\/em> out of you\u2014you can tell your love for Him is so apparent. Here you have a special needs child; you also had two more daughters. Your lives are <em>full<\/em> and busy; how did you carve out time for a dynamic walk with God? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Cindi:<\/strong> Well, a couple of things. First of all, I would very rarely miss a quiet time; but a quiet time wouldn\u2019t necessarily mean it was an hour long. It might have been a verse, or a chapter, or maybe a couple of verses until I learned something new. It wasn\u2019t always this great spiritual high of getting out your Bible and your teaching manuals and having this big quiet time\u2014though I would have loved to have done that\u2014I think sometimes we just have to steal those moments when we can. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tJoey points us to Jesus all along the way. He knows the Lord. I would have to say, for sure, that Joey has taught us things that the Bible itself, just reading it, would <em>never<\/em> have taught us. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> It was learned, by God\u2019s grace, in a way that we never could have learned from reading a book or hearing a sermon. We tell people, all the time, that: \u201cIf you want to learn how to worship\/if you want to learn how to come to the throne of God, stand behind us in church. Joey will take you there.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> What\u2019s that mean? What\u2019s that look like? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> His eyes are closed; his hands are up. He\u2019s\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Cindi:<\/strong> \u2014singing. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> \u2014doesn\u2019t know the words\u2014he\u2019s singing. He\u2019s not in tune at all, but you know what?\u2014he\u2019s in worship. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> It\u2019s interesting, too\u2014because when our kids have struggled\u2014God gives us a different view. We see them as struggling; yet, God sometimes gives us: \u201cWait. You\u2019re not looking at it the way I\u2019m looking at it.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOur son\u2014I remember realizing and getting a diagnosis of ADD\u2014and he just <em>struggled<\/em> in school. I remember I was on an elliptical bike, and I was reading Exodus that day. I read this in Exodus 4:10\u2014it says, \u201cBut Moses said to the Lord, \u2018O my Lord, I\u2019m not eloquent either in the past or since You have spoken to Your servant; but I am slow of speech and of tongue.\u2019\u201d Then the Lord said to him, \u201cWho has made man\u2019s mouth? Who makes him mute or deaf or seeing or blind? Is it not I the Lord?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI remember putting down my Bible\u2014and I\u2019ve never read that in that way before\u2014it was as if God said: \u201cI am delighting in your son. I have made your son. Can you not delight in him as I have made him?\u201d It changed my whole perspective\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> That\u2019s right; that\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> \u2014whereas: \u201cIf God\u2019s delighting in him,\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Cindi:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> \u2014\u201cI\u2019m going to delight in him too.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Cindi:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> And to hear Joey delighting in God, himself, is inspiring. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Cindi:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Absolutely. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Cindi:<\/strong> I really feel, too, in our family\u2014having Joey has allowed for our girls to become\u2014through no\/I wish I could say, \u201cOh, we did such a good job\u201d; you know?\u2014but through no fault of our own, if you will, they have turned into the loveliest of young ladies\u2014how they love and care for their brother and other people. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne of our daughters is looking into foster care. Another is working with an improv group, that are Downs Syndrome young adults, having a <em>blast<\/em>. That\u2019s her background\u2014musical theater\/improv\u2014she\u2019s <em>loving<\/em> it. Would they have gone those directions without Joey? It\u2019s more far-reaching; but I think, as parents, we have to come to a place, which that Scripture verse took you\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> That\u2019s beautiful. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Cindi:<\/strong> \u2014to where you say, \u201cI do delight in them like You delight in them.\u201d It gives you a <em>whole<\/em> different perspective for that day and for that goal, that I said earlier, where you are looking, \u201cWill we have a legacy, when we look back on this child\u2019s life, and in our marriage?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> And you think\u2014well, at least I thought\u2014when you describe Joey worshipping, I thought, \u201cSomeday, he\u2019ll be doing that in heaven, and you\u2019ll be there.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Cindi:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> You know, when you described earlier, Joe\u2014looking into his eyes when he was a little baby and seeing that look\u2014what do you think you\u2019re going to see in his eyes then? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Ooh! Glory! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> Yes, it\u2019ll be amazing. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Cindi:<\/strong> You know, we prayed for Joey for many years. I remember going into his room and him just going, \u201cUh\u201d; and I thought for sure that was going to be the morning he\u2019d be healed. I stopped praying; because I realized he is just who he is, and I am going to love him just how he is. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen he was little, I think, if you would have said, \u201cWould you like Joey healed?\u201d\u2014and if Jesus would walk in the room and heal him\u2014I would have said, \u201cYes, yes; heal him right now.\u201d But at 38 years old\u2014and we\u2019ve said this for a number of years\u2014if Jesus came to us and said, \u201cWould you like Me to heal him?\u201d I think we\u2019d say, \u201cNo\u201d; because he has taught us so much. We have learned to love him in all ways, and I believe he has loved us in all ways. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Absolutely. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You know, whether our kids have acute special needs or\u2014they <em>all<\/em> have special needs; don\u2019t they?\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Absolutely. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> So do we. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014their [special needs child] needs are clear, and present, and obvious; and they make them known to us, right? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOur marriage has needs, but it\u2019s not always as acute or obvious. I think part of what we\u2019re hearing this week is we have to be smart enough to know to address the less obvious need of our marriage, even if it means setting aside some of those immediate needs that our kids are coming with. If we <em>don\u2019t<\/em> put the priority on the marriage, there is not going to be the strength available, long term, to meet the special needs of our kids. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Absolutely. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> And you guys address this so well in your book, <em>Love All Ways<\/em>, which is a book we want to encourage our listeners\u2014if you are dealing with this personally\u2014or if you know a couple in your church\u2014get a copy of this book, and pass it on to them. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThank you guys for being with us, and for sharing this, and for encouraging others through this book and through this time together. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Well, thank you for the opportunity. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Cindi:<\/strong> Thank you so much. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Appreciate it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> We\u2019ve got both of Joe and Cindi\u2019s books available in our <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> Resource Center. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Cindi:<\/strong> Sure. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> You know who needs help; you\u2019ve seen them. Maybe, you\u2019re good friends with them; and you\u2019re the one God\u2019s saying, \u201cGo tell them.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> We\u2019re talking about an important relationship with our spouse; but I\u2019m also listening to you, thinking, \u201cHow do you do your walk with God?\u201d Because I know you guys\u2014Jesus <em>oozes<\/em> out of you\u2014you can tell your love for Him is so apparent. Here you have a special needs child; you also had two more daughters. Your lives are <em>full<\/em> and busy; how did you carve out time for a dynamic walk with God? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Cindi:<\/strong> Well, a couple of things. First of all, I would very rarely miss a quiet time; but a quiet time wouldn\u2019t necessarily mean it was an hour long. It might have been a verse, or a chapter, or maybe a couple of verses until I learned something new. It wasn\u2019t always this great spiritual high of getting out your Bible and your teaching manuals and having this big quiet time\u2014though I would have loved to have done that\u2014I think sometimes we just have to steal those moments when we can. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tJoey points us to Jesus all along the way. He knows the Lord. I would have to say, for sure, that Joey has taught us things that the Bible itself, just reading it, would <em>never<\/em> have taught us. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> It was learned, by God\u2019s grace, in a way that we never could have learned from reading a book or hearing a sermon. We tell people, all the time, that: \u201cIf you want to learn how to worship\/if you want to learn how to come to the throne of God, stand behind us in church. Joey will take you there.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> What\u2019s that mean? What\u2019s that look like? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> His eyes are closed; his hands are up. He\u2019s\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Cindi:<\/strong> \u2014singing. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> \u2014doesn\u2019t know the words\u2014he\u2019s singing. He\u2019s not in tune at all, but you know what?\u2014he\u2019s in worship. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> It\u2019s interesting, too\u2014because when our kids have struggled\u2014God gives us a different view. We see them as struggling; yet, God sometimes gives us: \u201cWait. You\u2019re not looking at it the way I\u2019m looking at it.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOur son\u2014I remember realizing and getting a diagnosis of ADD\u2014and he just <em>struggled<\/em> in school. I remember I was on an elliptical bike, and I was reading Exodus that day. I read this in Exodus 4:10\u2014it says, \u201cBut Moses said to the Lord, \u2018O my Lord, I\u2019m not eloquent either in the past or since You have spoken to Your servant; but I am slow of speech and of tongue.\u2019\u201d Then the Lord said to him, \u201cWho has made man\u2019s mouth? Who makes him mute or deaf or seeing or blind? Is it not I the Lord?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI remember putting down my Bible\u2014and I\u2019ve never read that in that way before\u2014it was as if God said: \u201cI am delighting in your son. I have made your son. Can you not delight in him as I have made him?\u201d It changed my whole perspective\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> That\u2019s right; that\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> \u2014whereas: \u201cIf God\u2019s delighting in him,\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Cindi:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> \u2014\u201cI\u2019m going to delight in him too.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Cindi:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> And to hear Joey delighting in God, himself, is inspiring. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Cindi:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Absolutely. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Cindi:<\/strong> I really feel, too, in our family\u2014having Joey has allowed for our girls to become\u2014through no\/I wish I could say, \u201cOh, we did such a good job\u201d; you know?\u2014but through no fault of our own, if you will, they have turned into the loveliest of young ladies\u2014how they love and care for their brother and other people. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne of our daughters is looking into foster care. Another is working with an improv group, that are Downs Syndrome young adults, having a <em>blast<\/em>. That\u2019s her background\u2014musical theater\/improv\u2014she\u2019s <em>loving<\/em> it. Would they have gone those directions without Joey? It\u2019s more far-reaching; but I think, as parents, we have to come to a place, which that Scripture verse took you\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> That\u2019s beautiful. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Cindi:<\/strong> \u2014to where you say, \u201cI do delight in them like You delight in them.\u201d It gives you a <em>whole<\/em> different perspective for that day and for that goal, that I said earlier, where you are looking, \u201cWill we have a legacy, when we look back on this child\u2019s life, and in our marriage?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> And you think\u2014well, at least I thought\u2014when you describe Joey worshipping, I thought, \u201cSomeday, he\u2019ll be doing that in heaven, and you\u2019ll be there.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Cindi:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> You know, when you described earlier, Joe\u2014looking into his eyes when he was a little baby and seeing that look\u2014what do you think you\u2019re going to see in his eyes then? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Ooh! Glory! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> Yes, it\u2019ll be amazing. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Cindi:<\/strong> You know, we prayed for Joey for many years. I remember going into his room and him just going, \u201cUh\u201d; and I thought for sure that was going to be the morning he\u2019d be healed. I stopped praying; because I realized he is just who he is, and I am going to love him just how he is. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen he was little, I think, if you would have said, \u201cWould you like Joey healed?\u201d\u2014and if Jesus would walk in the room and heal him\u2014I would have said, \u201cYes, yes; heal him right now.\u201d But at 38 years old\u2014and we\u2019ve said this for a number of years\u2014if Jesus came to us and said, \u201cWould you like Me to heal him?\u201d I think we\u2019d say, \u201cNo\u201d; because he has taught us so much. We have learned to love him in all ways, and I believe he has loved us in all ways. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Absolutely. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You know, whether our kids have acute special needs or\u2014they <em>all<\/em> have special needs; don\u2019t they?\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Absolutely. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> So do we. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014their [special needs child] needs are clear, and present, and obvious; and they make them known to us, right? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOur marriage has needs, but it\u2019s not always as acute or obvious. I think part of what we\u2019re hearing this week is we have to be smart enough to know to address the less obvious need of our marriage, even if it means setting aside some of those immediate needs that our kids are coming with. If we <em>don\u2019t<\/em> put the priority on the marriage, there is not going to be the strength available, long term, to meet the special needs of our kids. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Absolutely. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> And you guys address this so well in your book, <em>Love All Ways<\/em>, which is a book we want to encourage our listeners\u2014if you are dealing with this personally\u2014or if you know a couple in your church\u2014get a copy of this book, and pass it on to them. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThank you guys for being with us, and for sharing this, and for encouraging others through this book and through this time together. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Well, thank you for the opportunity. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Cindi:<\/strong> Thank you so much. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Appreciate it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> We\u2019ve got both of Joe and Cindi\u2019s books available in our <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> Resource Center.
