Dave Wilson says that means surrendering everything\u2014heart, soul, mind, bank account, body, even your sex drive.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>My dad never surrendered his sex drive to God. I was raised by a man, who had multiple girlfriends\u2014took me on trips, as a five-year-old, with his mistresses. It <em>destroyed<\/em> our family. So when I say, \u201cSurrender your body,\u201d I mean all of your body, like my dad didn\u2019t do. Then I, when I got married, had to say to Ann and to my sons: \u201cIt stops right here. Stay with us.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd welcome to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>. Thanks for joining us. One of the things you really like to do is to get with a group of guys and just call them up out of adolescence into manhood; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>You got it, Bob. I really do. There\u2019s something that ignites in my soul to speak to men about manhood.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Now, the message we\u2019re going to hear from you today, which is a message you shared at Kensington Church, was not just to men. There were women in the audience, as you were speaking about this; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>Yes; it was a little strange because, often, I\u2019ll do this at a men\u2019s retreat or just a men\u2019s only meeting; and yet, all the women, and daughters, and sisters, and grandmothers, and moms are sitting there. Yet, at the same time, as I watched the room, the women were almost applauding.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>Oh, they actually did applaud; because I was sitting in the audience. There\u2019s something that stirs up a woman\u2019s heart that says: \u201cThank you. Thank you for seeing us; thank you for speaking about us; and thank you for protecting us; and teaching the men and encouraging the men to walk the way God would have them walk and treat women.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>And I think part of that is women know that, if men live like God calls us men to live, guess who the beneficiaries are?\u2014the women and children. They\u2019re going to get a man who\u2019s going to give his life away <em>for<\/em> them, because he\u2019s honoring Christ.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You juxtaposed the old Boys Club in this message, which is kind of the way guys have been living, well, since the Fall\u2014passivity\/selfishness\u2014all of that being endemic. You juxtaposed that with what it\u2019s like to be a gentleman and to live as God\u2019s called us to live, as men.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>Yes; my hope was that men could get a new vision for what a man is. As you\u2019re going to hear in the message, that vision comes from the greatest Man who ever lived. Jesus treated women totally different than any man in the culture, He walked into, treated them. He modeled for us: \u201cThis is what it looks like to be a man,\u201d and \u201cThis is how a <em>real<\/em> man treats women.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Well, let\u2019s hear how Dave challenged the guys at his church on this subject as we listen to this message from Kensington Church.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Recorded Message]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>The old Boys Club\u2014that we sort of live in in this culture\u2014is that women are a commodity in this culture. In fact, I wrote it down this way: \u201cWomen are viewed, presented, talked about, and sung about like a commodity.\u201d If you wonder what I mean by that, I defined it: \u201cCommodity is something of value that we use and then discard or trade it in for something of more value.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m not saying all men do this; I\u2019m not saying this is everywhere, but I think it\u2019s pretty strongly true that women in this culture are often looked at\u2014in fact, I wrote it down this way: \u201cOften, women feel like men are saying to them: \u2018Take me; use me; do whatever you want with me; and then, discard me and move on to the next one. I\u2019m at your disposal. I\u2019m here to please you, my man.\u201d Again, I\u2019m not saying it\u2019s everywhere; but it\u2019s pretty strong. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI know many have already done this, but some of you haven\u2019t: \u201cIt\u2019s time to move from the old Boys Club to the new Gentlemen\u2019s Club.\u201d It\u2019s called the Gentlemen\u2019s Club\u2014the new Gentlemen\u2019s Club. What\u2019s that look like? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWell, here\u2019s the interesting thing\u2014this depiction of women, and objectifying women, and victimizing women, and treating them as a commodity to be used and discarded for anything we want\u2014is not a new deal for men. You know how old this is?\u2014anyone want to take a guess?\u2014as old as sin. It started in the Garden; it\u2019s still here. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHere\u2019s what I want to show you today\u2014when you go to the New Testament and you say, \u201cOkay; what is God\u2019s perspective on man and woman?\u201d\u2014where do you go? You go to Jesus; right? You go to the New Testament; you go to the One, who said: \u201cIf you\u2019ve seen Me, you\u2019ve seen the Father. I am the visible representation of the invisible God.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen you understand the <em>culture<\/em> that women lived in in the first century\/the culture that Jesus walked into, you realize they were, not just viewed as a commodity, they <em>were<\/em> a commodity. They were, literally, property of men\u2014they were lower than livestock; they were lower than a cow\u2014and I\u2019m not exaggerating. Their animals were money to them; their women were just to be used to do whatever their man wanted. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tMost men had <em>multiple<\/em> concubines; most men had several wives\u2014they did whatever they wanted. If they wanted to divorce their wife, they didn\u2019t need any grounds! They\u2019re a man; they\u2019re in control; the woman is not even here\u2014she\u2019s like way down here. If they don\u2019t like her, they\u2019re done with her; they\u2019ll get another one, because women were just discarded any way they want. Jesus walks into <em>that<\/em> culture. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe don\u2019t understand this, because we don\u2019t <em>live<\/em> in that culture; but understand\u2014this is where women were; this is where men were\u2014and Jesus walks in. Watch what He does\u2014He makes several comments that <em>blew<\/em> their minds. You and I miss it, because we don\u2019t understand the culture. Then, Paul follows him and Peter. I\u2019m going to show you Jesus, Paul, and Peter\u2014how they elevated the status of women.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIn fact, I would venture to say this: \u201cThe status that women are having, even in our country\u2014and it\u2019s not even close to where it needs to be\u2014is all traced back, all the way back to Jesus. I am not kidding. I don\u2019t have time to get into it, but Jesus had women disciples; right?\u2014that would <em>never<\/em> happen in a religious community; women were <em>not<\/em> <em>allowed<\/em> to be spiritual learners at all. Women were His <em>closest<\/em> friends\u2014they were the ones at the tomb, when He rose from the dead, <em>first<\/em>\u2014not men\u2014women!\u00a0 He used a widow\u2019s mite as an example of what it looks like to give exorbitantly. Men were sitting there, going: \u201cYou are using a <em>woman<\/em> as an example of spiritual maturity? I\u2019m out of here!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo let me read you something Jesus said. I bet you\u2019ve heard it, but I bet you never thought of it the way <em>men<\/em> heard this statement\u2014it\u2019s a very simple statement that He said in John 13\u2014He said this, \u201cA new command I give you\u2026love one another.\u201d\u00a0 Now, we just read that and it\u2019s like, \u201cOkay; we just keep going.\u201d No, no, no; you have to stop. They probably are going, \u201cWait, wait. That\u2019s not new. That\u2019s been in the Torah for thousands of years: \u2018Love God; love others.\u2019\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYes; but what they understood as \u201clove others\u201d meant: \u201cLove those who are like me. Love other Jews. Love others that love me. Do not love people that are not like me, and do not love people that are lower than me,\u201d which meant, \u201cDo not love women.\u201d But He just says, \u201cLove one another.\u201d And, then, He says, \u201cHow?\u201d\u2014He says, \u201cAs I have loved you, so you must love one another.\u201d Then, He adds this: \u201cBy this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThink about what He just said there. If you want your neighbor to come to Christ\/if you want your neighbor to come to church, you know what He says?\u2014\u201cLove each other,\u201d\u2014just be a body that\u2019s unified\u2014and there\u2019s true, and authentic, and real love\u2014and people will run to that community. But what do people see in the church?\u2014they see the church dividing, fighting over theology, fighting over practices\u2014like: \u201cYes, okay; not interested. You guys don\u2019t love any better than us.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tJesus is like: \u201cNo, no. If you understood what I\u2019m saying, \u2018Love one another,\u2019\u2014how?\u2014\u2018as I have loved you!\u2019\u201d What\u2019s that mean?\u2014you lay yourself down, sacrificially, for your neighbor, for your friend, for your wife, for your daughter, for your mom, for your sister! He said: \u201cI\u2019m raising the status of women to equal that of men. It is <em>no longer<\/em> what you thought\u2014this; it is this.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, you get into the New Testament. Some of you know this\u2014you go to the classic text on marriage, Ephesians, Chapter 5, where Paul writes this letter. He applies the theology of who God is\u2014our good, good Father\u2014and who we are\/identity\u2014loved by Him\u2014to marriage, and parenting, and all kinds of things. In Chapter 5 he says, \u201cHusbands\u201d\u2014most of the husbands in this room could probably finish this statement; it\u2019s been taught so many times. You tell me\u2014what\u2019s he say? He says, \u201cHusbands,\u201d\u2014what?\u2014\u201clove your wives\u201d\u2014how?\u2014\u201cas Christ loved the church.\u201d And every wife\u2019s like, \u201cAmen!\u201d\u2014you\u2019re hitting him right now, like: \u201cDo that. Just do that,\u201d\u2014yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tPaul says\u2014and by the way, again, we miss this\u2014this was <em>radical<\/em>, at the time. Husbands did <em>not<\/em> love their wives; they just <em>used<\/em> their wives\u2014that was the culture. Paul is saying: \u201cIt\u2019s a new day. It\u2019s a new Gentlemen\u2019s Club, guys. The old Boys Club is done and over. Step into being a man, and a man does this\u2014he loves his wife\u2014equal status. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHow?\u2014because every guy\u2019s going, \u201cWhat\u2019s that look like?\u201d He goes, \u201cI\u2019ll make it really clear\u2014as Christ loved the church.\u201d Again, all you have to do is a little math, to go, \u201cOkay; what did Christ do for the church?\u201d \u201cHe died for the church!\u201d Every guy\u2019s like, \u201cI\u2019m out.\u201d Lay down your desires and agenda and say, \u201cI want to love my wife and serve her in such a way that it looks like what Christ did for me.\u201d I know what guys are thinking\u2014they\u2019re like, \u201cYes, yes; but she doesn\u2019t deserve it.\u201d Did <em>you<\/em>?\u2014no. Jesus did it for you, so it doesn\u2019t matter if she deserves it or not; lay down your life\u2014<em>serve<\/em> her.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tPaul is saying to husbands\u2014this is <em>radical<\/em> thinking in that time\u2014\u201cTreat her as more important than <em>you<\/em>,\u201d and they were like: \u201cWhat?! <em>No<\/em>; that is not the way God set it up!\u201d He said, \u201cNo; that\u2019s the old Boys Club. The new Gentlemen\u2019s Club is: \u2018Love your wife as Christ loved the church.\u2019\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019ll jump down to another one\u20141 Peter. Guys, you should memorize this verse; you should know this verse. In 1 Peter 3, Peter says it this way\u2014again, another follower of Jesus\/a disciple\u2014he says, \u201cI\u2019m going to now do life the new gentlemen\u2019s way, not the old boys\u2019 way.\u201d He says this: \u201cHusbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect.\u201d Do this to every woman in your life. He goes on to say, \u201cGrant them respect as the weaker partner.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, I\u2019ve had women say, \u201cYes; I don\u2019t like the Bible; it says we\u2019re weaker.\u201d It isn\u2019t saying you\u2019re weaker; it\u2019s only talking, physical. All Peter is saying is: \u201cI bet if you arm-wrestled your man, he\u2019d probably beat you, three out of ten times. He\u2019d probably beat you\u201d; right?\u2014that\u2019s all it\u2019s saying!\u2014it\u2019s not saying spiritually\/emotionally\u2014only physically.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tTrust me\u2014I can speak for most men, and they won\u2019t like me saying this\u2014but I believe this: \u201cWomen in this room are stronger than we are, emotionally and spiritually.\u201d I\u2019ve just seen it. Even when they get sick, they\u2019re like, \u201cI\u2019m good,\u201d and we\u2019re like: \u201cI can\u2019t live! Get me something now!\u201d It\u2019s just unbelievable; right? Women are so strong!\u2014he\u2019s not talking about that strength; he\u2019s just talking, physically, as a weaker partner or vessel.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen look what he says\u2014he says, \u201c\u2026and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life.\u201d Here\u2019s what he just did\u2014he said: \u201cI know what some of you guys are thinking. You\u2019re thinking: \u2018You\u2019re calling me to honor her and give her respect, but she\u2019s not honorable. You don\u2019t know my wife. Hey Peter, if you met my wife, you\u2019d change this whole thing.\u2019\u201d \u201cNo, no, no; let me make something very clear: \u2018She is a co-heir with you of the grace of eternal life.\u2019\u201d He\u2019s saying, \u201cShe\u2019s equal.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou\u2019re still saying, \u201cYes; but she\u2019s dishonorable.\u201d Look, so are you, and what did Jesus do for you?\u2014He gave you honor; give that honor to her.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen he says, \u201cYou want to know how important this is to me?\u201d Think about this\u2014all he\u2019s talking about is how men treat women in the new Gentlemen\u2019s Club\u2014he goes, \u201cYou want to know how important this is to me?\u201d He says, \u201cWatch this: if you don\u2019t do this, it\u2019s going to hinder your prayers.\u201d I remember reading that, for years, like, \u201cWhat in the world does that mean?!\u201d\u2014I don\u2019t know! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAll I know is this: \u201cIt\u2019s <em>real<\/em> important to God.\u201d This is a big deal, guys. This isn\u2019t, \u201cOh, yes\u2026\u201d\u2014this is\u2014\u201cQuit acting like boys! Quit treating your women like commodities, to be used for your pleasure, and move on to the next one. <em>Grow up<\/em>; put your childish ways away and become a man. Step into the new Gentlemen\u2019s Club, and start treating the women in your life\u2014and in this church, and in your workplace, and in your neighborhood, and in your family\u2014the way they deserve: a co-heir with Christ. If you don\u2019t\u2014trust me\u2014it\u2019s not going to go well.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf you\u2019re like me, you\u2019re sitting there, going: \u201cOkay, dude; what do I do? How do I do this?\u201d Okay; guys, especially\u2014and again, women, you can listen in\u2014but here\u2019s what I would say to the men in terms of application. If I could lean over the dinner table, I would look you right in the eye and I would quote you this verse, which is a life verse for me. Paul wrote in Romans 12\u2014he says: \u201cTherefore I urge you brothers [and sisters], in view of God\u2019s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God. This is your true and proper worship.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tReal worship is more than just singing songs. Real worship is what?\u2014offering our bodies\/our life as a living sacrifice to God. What\u2019s that mean?\u2014we crawl on the altar and say, \u201cI\u2019m not living for me anymore; I am giving You <em>everything<\/em>,\u201d and surrender to Him. He says, \u201cThat\u2019s real worship.\u201d He says, \u201cHere\u2019s what happens when you do that,\u201d\u2014verse 2\u2014he says, \u201cDo not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThis was so appropriate for what we\u2019ve been talking about today. What\u2019s the pattern?\u2014the literal word is matrix: \u201cWhat\u2019s the matrix\/the pattern of this world? How does this world think?\u201d\u2014women are commodities. \u201cHow does God think?\u201d\u2014He renews your mind to a new way of thinking\u2014not old Boys Club\u2014new Men\u2019s Club. Step up and be a man!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI love 1 Corinthians 16 for men\u2014it says, \u201cBe on your guard,\u201d or be a watchman. \u201cStand firm in the faith. Act like men. Be strong.\u201d There you go, guys\u2014it\u2019s like: \u201cYou\u2019re the one that guards your house; you\u2019re the one that guards your family. You\u2019re the watchmen at the gate of this church, of your community, workplace\u2014stand there; be firm in the faith\u2014not passive boys\u2014be men, who are strong.\u201d \u201cAct like men!\u201d\u2014what\u2019s that look like?\u2014\u201cBe strong\u201d; he says, \u201cDo everything in love,\u201d\u2014it\u2019s this toughness and this tenderness.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHere\u2019s what I\u2019d say to the men\u2014and women\/this applies to everybody\u2014but this is really to the guys. I would invite you to join me with this: \u201cSurrender your <em>mind<\/em> to Jesus\u2014start there\u2014surrender your <em>mind<\/em> to Jesus.\u201d Why do I say that? What I mean by that is: \u201cTake the eye-gate, the ear-gate, and what you think about\u2014and give it to Him.\u201d I would say to men\u2014and of course, to women, too, but I\u2019m really talking to guys\u2014\u201cGuys, it\u2019s time to submit your mind\u2014what you look at, what you listen to, what you think about\u2014to Jesus\u201d; okay? Secondly, \u201cSubmit your body,\u201d\u2014\u201cSurrender your mind; surrender your body,\u201d\u2014that\u2019s it!\u2014it\u2019s that simple. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen I say, \u201cbody,\u201d\u2014I\u2019ll be really honest, and I\u2019ll be tactful when I say this\u2014but here\u2019s what I\u2019m thinking, guys, when I say, \u201cbody.\u201d I\u2019m thinking of a body part that you and I need to surrender to Jesus. What I\u2019ve realized is that men in their 20s, and 30s, and 40s, and 50s, and 60s, and 70s are <em>obsessed<\/em> by that body part. That body part <em>drives<\/em> them to make <em>horrible<\/em> decisions. I\u2019m saying, \u201cSurrender that\u2014your sex drive\u2014to Jesus.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThis is personal, because some of you know my story. My dad <em>never<\/em> surrendered his sex drive to God. I was raised by a man, who had multiple girlfriends\u2014took me on trips, as a five-year-old, with his mistresses; and it <em>destroyed<\/em> our family. So when I say, \u201cSurrender your body,\u201d I mean <em>all<\/em> of my body, like my dad didn\u2019t do. Then, I\u2014when I got married\u2014had to say to Ann and to my sons: \u201cIt stops right here. The Wilson legacy of adultery stops here, because this dad is going to surrender all of this to Jesus.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf you want a real specific\u2014and I\u2019ll end with just a couple of thoughts\u2014here it is. Men, delete any form of media you have that degrades women\u2014get rid of it! You know why?\u2014because that stuff, in your brain, makes you think women are that kind of people; and then you degrade them, in your mind, and we degrade them [personally]. You can look at history and see how that works. When people degrade certain classes of people, they determine they\u2019re disposable; and men have done that to women forever. I would just challenge you: \u201cGet rid of it!\u201d\u2014that\u2019d be my first really practical step. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe second thing I would say is this: \u201cEnd your relationship with porn\u2014end it!\u201d \u201cHow do you do that?\u201d\u2014you tell somebody\u2014you say, \u201cI\u2019m struggling in this area.\u201d I\u2019ve struggled in this area, and I have brothers in my life that hold my accountable. My wife knows. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf you\u2019re living in this area in the dark, you\u2019re going to lose. I tell you\u2014I know it\u2019s scary and the most courageous thing a man will ever do. This is part of you becoming a man is\u2014when you step out of boyhood to the Gentlemen\u2019s Club of Manhood, is when you have the courage to say, \u201cI need help.\u201d Trust me on this\u2014don\u2019t tell <em>me<\/em> and walk out of here, like, \u201cI\u2019m good.\u201d No; tell a brother that\u2019s going to walk <em>with you<\/em> in this journey, because\u2014not only will they forgive you\u2014they will be your partner, to say, \u201cI\u2019m going to help you win this, so that we can treat women <em>as they deserve<\/em>.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Studio]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Well, again, we\u2019ve been listening to Dave Wilson challenge guys to step up. I loved the fact that you kind of redeemed what it means to be a gentleman. Every time I drive by a place that says it\u2019s a Gentlemen\u2019s Club, I go, \u201cThat\u2019s the <em>last thing<\/em> you are\u2014is a Gentlemen\u2019s Club.\u201d Anyone who\u2019s going in there is no gentleman. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou\u2019re bringing that word back and saying God wants us to be gentle men, who are <em>fierce<\/em> when it comes to living for Him\u2014and to loving our wives, and our kids, and the people around us.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>You know what I thought? I thought, \u201cMan, my husband can preach!\u201d [Laughter] I was like: \u201cLook at you! Look how good you are! Thank you for standing up for us!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>You know what she\u2019s doing, Bob?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>I\u2019m going to stand up and applaud you!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>She is cheering me right now. [Laughter] You\u2019ve read our book; she talks about that. Actually, even as she says it in jest, I\u2019m\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>I\u2019m not jesting!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>\u2014I know my chest is popping out right now, like, \u201cI am the man!\u201d; right? Thanks, honey!\u201d [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>No, you <em>are<\/em>; I love it! [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>Every man feels <em>great<\/em> when a woman does that, seriously\u2014especially when it\u2019s your wife. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI honestly\u2014maybe this is an impossible dream, but I was hoping boys would become men.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>Again, that doesn\u2019t happen in an instant, but it does happen by decisions. I was hoping a decision would be made that day to become, like you said, Bob, a new gentleman\u2014a Jesus gentleman\u2014that treats all people, <em>especially women<\/em>, the way they deserve\u2014as precious, made in the image of God.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Three things: honor, respect, and sacrificial love. Those were the three things you were calling us to, as men\u2014it\u2019s what the Bible calls us to. A guy listening today can say: \u201cOkay; I can, by God\u2019s grace, with the power of the Holy Spirit working through me, I can be more honorable; I can be more worthy of respect; I can be more sacrificial in my love for my spouse.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnn, for the women who are listening, they can find those things in their husband that they can cheer on and, then, do what you just did. They can cheer their husband on and cause their husband to step up.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>Exactly. I do think some women may hear this and think, \u201cMy husband\u2019s not doing that.\u201d They might feel a sense of discouragement, but I would encourage you to say exactly what you said, Bob\u2014is: \u201cLook for the good, because it\u2019s in there. It may be hidden, but you can find it and draw it out.\u201d That <em>does<\/em> make a man\u2019s chest go out.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>Yes; you see how big my chest is right now? [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>I see it, honey.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>It\u2019s like I did a thousand pushups right now.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut I would say this\u2014if you\u2019re a single woman looking for a man, do not settle. Do not settle for a man, who\u2019s treating women as a commodity. If you even see a hint of that, man, I\u2019m saying: \u201cPut on the brakes and say, \u2018I am going to find a man who lives out like Christ.\u2019\u201d They\u2019re out there; they really are.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, I would say to the men out there\u2014you know, at the end of that message I said: \u201cSurrender your mind\/the way you think, and surrender your body.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>I was getting into the sexual temptation there. I would say to these guys, \u201cMan, you and I can\u2019t do it unless we surrender; and that means give Jesus <em>everything<\/em>, and let Him do it in us and, then, through us.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes; and I think there may be some guys who\u2019d like to hear your entire message. I\u2019ve seen my dad pursue my mom, in fresh ways, through different stages of life; yes, I\u2019m really grateful for him as a dad.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Not all of our listeners have a legacy that they can look at and say, \u201cMy parents persevered and went 50 years.\u201d God is the God of healing and comfort in the midst of those challenges; but for those, who can look back and say, \u201cMy parents modeled something,\u201d that\u2019s a treasure to hang onto.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>David: <\/strong>Yes; it is. I was raised by a man, who had multiple girlfriends\u2014took me on trips, as a five-year-old, with his mistresses. It <em>destroyed<\/em> our family. So when I say, \u201cSurrender your body,\u201d I mean all of your body, like my dad didn\u2019t do. Then I, when I got married, had to say to Ann and to my sons: \u201cIt stops right here. One of the things you really like to do is to get with a group of guys and just call them up out of adolescence into manhood; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>You got it, Bob. I really do. There\u2019s something that ignites in my soul to speak to men about manhood.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Now, the message we\u2019re going to hear from you today, which is a message you shared at Kensington Church, was not just to men. There were women in the audience, as you were speaking about this; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>Yes; it was a little strange because, often, I\u2019ll do this at a men\u2019s retreat or just a men\u2019s only meeting; and yet, all the women, and daughters, and sisters, and grandmothers, and moms are sitting there. Yet, at the same time, as I watched the room, the women were almost applauding.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>Oh, they actually did applaud; because I was sitting in the audience. There\u2019s something that stirs up a woman\u2019s heart that says: \u201cThank you. Thank you for seeing us; thank you for speaking about us; and thank you for protecting us; and teaching the men and encouraging the men to walk the way God would have them walk and treat women.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>And I think part of that is women know that, if men live like God calls us men to live, guess who the beneficiaries are?\u2014the women and children. They\u2019re going to get a man who\u2019s going to give his life away <em>for<\/em> them, because he\u2019s honoring Christ.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You juxtaposed the old Boys Club in this message, which is kind of the way guys have been living, well, since the Fall\u2014passivity\/selfishness\u2014all of that being endemic. You juxtaposed that with what it\u2019s like to be a gentleman and to live as God\u2019s called us to live, as men.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>Yes; my hope was that men could get a new vision for what a man is. As you\u2019re going to hear in the message, that vision comes from the greatest Man who ever lived. Jesus treated women totally different than any man in the culture, He walked into, treated them. He modeled for us: \u201cThis is what it looks like to be a man,\u201d and \u201cThis is how a <em>real<\/em> man treats women.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Well, let\u2019s hear how Dave challenged the guys at his church on this subject as we listen to this message from Kensington Church.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Recorded Message]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>The old Boys Club\u2014that we sort of live in in this culture\u2014is that women are a commodity in this culture. In fact, I wrote it down this way: \u201cWomen are viewed, presented, talked about, and sung about like a commodity.\u201d If you wonder what I mean by that, I defined it: \u201cCommodity is something of value that we use and then discard or trade it in for something of more value.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m not saying all men do this; I\u2019m not saying this is everywhere, but I think it\u2019s pretty strongly true that women in this culture are often looked at\u2014in fact, I wrote it down this way: \u201cOften, women feel like men are saying to them: \u2018Take me; use me; do whatever you want with me; and then, discard me and move on to the next one. I\u2019m at your disposal. I\u2019m here to please you, my man.\u201d Again, I\u2019m not saying it\u2019s everywhere; but it\u2019s pretty strong. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI know many have already done this, but some of you haven\u2019t: \u201cIt\u2019s time to move from the old Boys Club to the new Gentlemen\u2019s Club.\u201d It\u2019s called the Gentlemen\u2019s Club\u2014the new Gentlemen\u2019s Club. What\u2019s that look like? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWell, here\u2019s the interesting thing\u2014this depiction of women, and objectifying women, and victimizing women, and treating them as a commodity to be used and discarded for anything we want\u2014is not a new deal for men. You know how old this is?\u2014anyone want to take a guess?\u2014as old as sin. It started in the Garden; it\u2019s still here. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHere\u2019s what I want to show you today\u2014when you go to the New Testament and you say, \u201cOkay; what is God\u2019s perspective on man and woman?\u201d\u2014where do you go? You go to Jesus; right? You go to the New Testament; you go to the One, who said: \u201cIf you\u2019ve seen Me, you\u2019ve seen the Father. I am the visible representation of the invisible God.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen you understand the <em>culture<\/em> that women lived in in the first century\/the culture that Jesus walked into, you realize they were, not just viewed as a commodity, they <em>were<\/em> a commodity. They were, literally, property of men\u2014they were lower than livestock; they were lower than a cow\u2014and I\u2019m not exaggerating. Their animals were money to them; their women were just to be used to do whatever their man wanted. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tMost men had <em>multiple<\/em> concubines; most men had several wives\u2014they did whatever they wanted. If they wanted to divorce their wife, they didn\u2019t need any grounds! They\u2019re a man; they\u2019re in control; the woman is not even here\u2014she\u2019s like way down here. If they don\u2019t like her, they\u2019re done with her; they\u2019ll get another one, because women were just discarded any way they want. Jesus walks into <em>that<\/em> culture. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe don\u2019t understand this, because we don\u2019t <em>live<\/em> in that culture; but understand\u2014this is where women were; this is where men were\u2014and Jesus walks in. Watch what He does\u2014He makes several comments that <em>blew<\/em> their minds. You and I miss it, because we don\u2019t understand the culture. Then, Paul follows him and Peter. I\u2019m going to show you Jesus, Paul, and Peter\u2014how they elevated the status of women.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIn fact, I would venture to say this: \u201cThe status that women are having, even in our country\u2014and it\u2019s not even close to where it needs to be\u2014is all traced back, all the way back to Jesus. I am not kidding. I don\u2019t have time to get into it, but Jesus had women disciples; right?\u2014that would <em>never<\/em> happen in a religious community; women were <em>not<\/em> <em>allowed<\/em> to be spiritual learners at all. Women were His <em>closest<\/em> friends\u2014they were the ones at the tomb, when He rose from the dead, <em>first<\/em>\u2014not men\u2014women!\u00a0 He used a widow\u2019s mite as an example of what it looks like to give exorbitantly. Men were sitting there, going: \u201cYou are using a <em>woman<\/em> as an example of spiritual maturity? I\u2019m out of here!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo let me read you something Jesus said. I bet you\u2019ve heard it, but I bet you never thought of it the way <em>men<\/em> heard this statement\u2014it\u2019s a very simple statement that He said in John 13\u2014He said this, \u201cA new command I give you\u2026love one another.\u201d\u00a0 Now, we just read that and it\u2019s like, \u201cOkay; we just keep going.\u201d No, no, no; you have to stop. They probably are going, \u201cWait, wait. That\u2019s not new. That\u2019s been in the Torah for thousands of years: \u2018Love God; love others.\u2019\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYes; but what they understood as \u201clove others\u201d meant: \u201cLove those who are like me. Love other Jews. Love others that love me. Do not love people that are not like me, and do not love people that are lower than me,\u201d which meant, \u201cDo not love women.\u201d But He just says, \u201cLove one another.\u201d And, then, He says, \u201cHow?\u201d\u2014He says, \u201cAs I have loved you, so you must love one another.\u201d Then, He adds this: \u201cBy this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThink about what He just said there. If you want your neighbor to come to Christ\/if you want your neighbor to come to church, you know what He says?\u2014\u201cLove each other,\u201d\u2014just be a body that\u2019s unified\u2014and there\u2019s true, and authentic, and real love\u2014and people will run to that community. But what do people see in the church?\u2014they see the church dividing, fighting over theology, fighting over practices\u2014like: \u201cYes, okay; not interested. You guys don\u2019t love any better than us.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tJesus is like: \u201cNo, no. If you understood what I\u2019m saying, \u2018Love one another,\u2019\u2014how?\u2014\u2018as I have loved you!\u2019\u201d What\u2019s that mean?\u2014you lay yourself down, sacrificially, for your neighbor, for your friend, for your wife, for your daughter, for your mom, for your sister! He said: \u201cI\u2019m raising the status of women to equal that of men. It is <em>no longer<\/em> what you thought\u2014this; it is this.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, you get into the New Testament. Some of you know this\u2014you go to the classic text on marriage, Ephesians, Chapter 5, where Paul writes this letter. He applies the theology of who God is\u2014our good, good Father\u2014and who we are\/identity\u2014loved by Him\u2014to marriage, and parenting, and all kinds of things. In Chapter 5 he says, \u201cHusbands\u201d\u2014most of the husbands in this room could probably finish this statement; it\u2019s been taught so many times. You tell me\u2014what\u2019s he say? He says, \u201cHusbands,\u201d\u2014what?\u2014\u201clove your wives\u201d\u2014how?\u2014\u201cas Christ loved the church.\u201d And every wife\u2019s like, \u201cAmen!\u201d\u2014you\u2019re hitting him right now, like: \u201cDo that. Just do that,\u201d\u2014yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tPaul says\u2014and by the way, again, we miss this\u2014this was <em>radical<\/em>, at the time. Husbands did <em>not<\/em> love their wives; they just <em>used<\/em> their wives\u2014that was the culture. Paul is saying: \u201cIt\u2019s a new day. It\u2019s a new Gentlemen\u2019s Club, guys. The old Boys Club is done and over. Step into being a man, and a man does this\u2014he loves his wife\u2014equal status. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHow?\u2014because every guy\u2019s going, \u201cWhat\u2019s that look like?\u201d He goes, \u201cI\u2019ll make it really clear\u2014as Christ loved the church.\u201d Again, all you have to do is a little math, to go, \u201cOkay; what did Christ do for the church?\u201d \u201cHe died for the church!\u201d Every guy\u2019s like, \u201cI\u2019m out.\u201d Lay down your desires and agenda and say, \u201cI want to love my wife and serve her in such a way that it looks like what Christ did for me.\u201d I know what guys are thinking\u2014they\u2019re like, \u201cYes, yes; but she doesn\u2019t deserve it.\u201d Did <em>you<\/em>?\u2014no. Jesus did it for you, so it doesn\u2019t matter if she deserves it or not; lay down your life\u2014<em>serve<\/em> her.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tPaul is saying to husbands\u2014this is <em>radical<\/em> thinking in that time\u2014\u201cTreat her as more important than <em>you<\/em>,\u201d and they were like: \u201cWhat?! <em>No<\/em>; that is not the way God set it up!\u201d He said, \u201cNo; that\u2019s the old Boys Club. The new Gentlemen\u2019s Club is: \u2018Love your wife as Christ loved the church.\u2019\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019ll jump down to another one\u20141 Peter. Guys, you should memorize this verse; you should know this verse. In 1 Peter 3, Peter says it this way\u2014again, another follower of Jesus\/a disciple\u2014he says, \u201cI\u2019m going to now do life the new gentlemen\u2019s way, not the old boys\u2019 way.\u201d He says this: \u201cHusbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect.\u201d Do this to every woman in your life. He goes on to say, \u201cGrant them respect as the weaker partner.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, I\u2019ve had women say, \u201cYes; I don\u2019t like the Bible; it says we\u2019re weaker.\u201d It isn\u2019t saying you\u2019re weaker; it\u2019s only talking, physical. All Peter is saying is: \u201cI bet if you arm-wrestled your man, he\u2019d probably beat you, three out of ten times. He\u2019d probably beat you\u201d; right?\u2014that\u2019s all it\u2019s saying!\u2014it\u2019s not saying spiritually\/emotionally\u2014only physically.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tTrust me\u2014I can speak for most men, and they won\u2019t like me saying this\u2014but I believe this: \u201cWomen in this room are stronger than we are, emotionally and spiritually.\u201d I\u2019ve just seen it. Even when they get sick, they\u2019re like, \u201cI\u2019m good,\u201d and we\u2019re like: \u201cI can\u2019t live! Get me something now!\u201d It\u2019s just unbelievable; right? Women are so strong!\u2014he\u2019s not talking about that strength; he\u2019s just talking, physically, as a weaker partner or vessel.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen look what he says\u2014he says, \u201c\u2026and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life.\u201d Here\u2019s what he just did\u2014he said: \u201cI know what some of you guys are thinking. You\u2019re thinking: \u2018You\u2019re calling me to honor her and give her respect, but she\u2019s not honorable. You don\u2019t know my wife. Hey Peter, if you met my wife, you\u2019d change this whole thing.\u2019\u201d \u201cNo, no, no; let me make something very clear: \u2018She is a co-heir with you of the grace of eternal life.\u2019\u201d He\u2019s saying, \u201cShe\u2019s equal.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou\u2019re still saying, \u201cYes; but she\u2019s dishonorable.\u201d Look, so are you, and what did Jesus do for you?\u2014He gave you honor; give that honor to her.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen he says, \u201cYou want to know how important this is to me?\u201d Think about this\u2014all he\u2019s talking about is how men treat women in the new Gentlemen\u2019s Club\u2014he goes, \u201cYou want to know how important this is to me?\u201d He says, \u201cWatch this: if you don\u2019t do this, it\u2019s going to hinder your prayers.\u201d I remember reading that, for years, like, \u201cWhat in the world does that mean?!\u201d\u2014I don\u2019t know! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAll I know is this: \u201cIt\u2019s <em>real<\/em> important to God.\u201d This is a big deal, guys. This isn\u2019t, \u201cOh, yes\u2026\u201d\u2014this is\u2014\u201cQuit acting like boys! Quit treating your women like commodities, to be used for your pleasure, and move on to the next one. <em>Grow up<\/em>; put your childish ways away and become a man. Step into the new Gentlemen\u2019s Club, and start treating the women in your life\u2014and in this church, and in your workplace, and in your neighborhood, and in your family\u2014the way they deserve: a co-heir with Christ. If you don\u2019t\u2014trust me\u2014it\u2019s not going to go well.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf you\u2019re like me, you\u2019re sitting there, going: \u201cOkay, dude; what do I do? How do I do this?\u201d Okay; guys, especially\u2014and again, women, you can listen in\u2014but here\u2019s what I would say to the men in terms of application. If I could lean over the dinner table, I would look you right in the eye and I would quote you this verse, which is a life verse for me. Paul wrote in Romans 12\u2014he says: \u201cTherefore I urge you brothers [and sisters], in view of God\u2019s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God. This is your true and proper worship.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tReal worship is more than just singing songs. Real worship is what?\u2014offering our bodies\/our life as a living sacrifice to God. What\u2019s that mean?\u2014we crawl on the altar and say, \u201cI\u2019m not living for me anymore; I am giving You <em>everything<\/em>,\u201d and surrender to Him. He says, \u201cThat\u2019s real worship.\u201d He says, \u201cHere\u2019s what happens when you do that,\u201d\u2014verse 2\u2014he says, \u201cDo not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThis was so appropriate for what we\u2019ve been talking about today. What\u2019s the pattern?\u2014the literal word is matrix: \u201cWhat\u2019s the matrix\/the pattern of this world? How does this world think?\u201d\u2014women are commodities. \u201cHow does God think?\u201d\u2014He renews your mind to a new way of thinking\u2014not old Boys Club\u2014new Men\u2019s Club. Step up and be a man!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI love 1 Corinthians 16 for men\u2014it says, \u201cBe on your guard,\u201d or be a watchman. \u201cStand firm in the faith. Act like men. Be strong.\u201d There you go, guys\u2014it\u2019s like: \u201cYou\u2019re the one that guards your house; you\u2019re the one that guards your family. You\u2019re the watchmen at the gate of this church, of your community, workplace\u2014stand there; be firm in the faith\u2014not passive boys\u2014be men, who are strong.\u201d \u201cAct like men!\u201d\u2014what\u2019s that look like?\u2014\u201cBe strong\u201d; he says, \u201cDo everything in love,\u201d\u2014it\u2019s this toughness and this tenderness.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHere\u2019s what I\u2019d say to the men\u2014and women\/this applies to everybody\u2014but this is really to the guys. I would invite you to join me with this: \u201cSurrender your <em>mind<\/em> to Jesus\u2014start there\u2014surrender your <em>mind<\/em> to Jesus.\u201d Why do I say that? What I mean by that is: \u201cTake the eye-gate, the ear-gate, and what you think about\u2014and give it to Him.\u201d I would say to men\u2014and of course, to women, too, but I\u2019m really talking to guys\u2014\u201cGuys, it\u2019s time to submit your mind\u2014what you look at, what you listen to, what you think about\u2014to Jesus\u201d; okay? Secondly, \u201cSubmit your body,\u201d\u2014\u201cSurrender your mind; surrender your body,\u201d\u2014that\u2019s it!\u2014it\u2019s that simple. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen I say, \u201cbody,\u201d\u2014I\u2019ll be really honest, and I\u2019ll be tactful when I say this\u2014but here\u2019s what I\u2019m thinking, guys, when I say, \u201cbody.\u201d I\u2019m thinking of a body part that you and I need to surrender to Jesus. What I\u2019ve realized is that men in their 20s, and 30s, and 40s, and 50s, and 60s, and 70s are <em>obsessed<\/em> by that body part. That body part <em>drives<\/em> them to make <em>horrible<\/em> decisions. I\u2019m saying, \u201cSurrender that\u2014your sex drive\u2014to Jesus.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThis is personal, because some of you know my story. My dad <em>never<\/em> surrendered his sex drive to God. I was raised by a man, who had multiple girlfriends\u2014took me on trips, as a five-year-old, with his mistresses; and it <em>destroyed<\/em> our family. So when I say, \u201cSurrender your body,\u201d I mean <em>all<\/em> of my body, like my dad didn\u2019t do. Then, I\u2014when I got married\u2014had to say to Ann and to my sons: \u201cIt stops right here. The Wilson legacy of adultery stops here, because this dad is going to surrender all of this to Jesus.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf you want a real specific\u2014and I\u2019ll end with just a couple of thoughts\u2014here it is. Men, delete any form of media you have that degrades women\u2014get rid of it! You know why?\u2014because that stuff, in your brain, makes you think women are that kind of people; and then you degrade them, in your mind, and we degrade them [personally]. You can look at history and see how that works. When people degrade certain classes of people, they determine they\u2019re disposable; and men have done that to women forever. I would just challenge you: \u201cGet rid of it!\u201d\u2014that\u2019d be my first really practical step. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe second thing I would say is this: \u201cEnd your relationship with porn\u2014end it!\u201d \u201cHow do you do that?\u201d\u2014you tell somebody\u2014you say, \u201cI\u2019m struggling in this area.\u201d I\u2019ve struggled in this area, and I have brothers in my life that hold my accountable. My wife knows. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf you\u2019re living in this area in the dark, you\u2019re going to lose. I tell you\u2014I know it\u2019s scary and the most courageous thing a man will ever do. This is part of you becoming a man is\u2014when you step out of boyhood to the Gentlemen\u2019s Club of Manhood, is when you have the courage to say, \u201cI need help.\u201d Trust me on this\u2014don\u2019t tell <em>me<\/em> and walk out of here, like, \u201cI\u2019m good.\u201d No; tell a brother that\u2019s going to walk <em>with you<\/em> in this journey, because\u2014not only will they forgive you\u2014they will be your partner, to say, \u201cI\u2019m going to help you win this, so that we can treat women <em>as they deserve<\/em>.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Studio]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Well, again, we\u2019ve been listening to Dave Wilson challenge guys to step up. I loved the fact that you kind of redeemed what it means to be a gentleman. Every time I drive by a place that says it\u2019s a Gentlemen\u2019s Club, I go, \u201cThat\u2019s the <em>last thing<\/em> you are\u2014is a Gentlemen\u2019s Club.\u201d Anyone who\u2019s going in there is no gentleman. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou\u2019re bringing that word back and saying God wants us to be gentle men, who are <em>fierce<\/em> when it comes to living for Him\u2014and to loving our wives, and our kids, and the people around us.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>You know what I thought? I thought, \u201cMan, my husband can preach!\u201d [Laughter] I was like: \u201cLook at you! Look how good you are! Thank you for standing up for us!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>You know what she\u2019s doing, Bob?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>I\u2019m going to stand up and applaud you!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>She is cheering me right now. [Laughter] You\u2019ve read our book; she talks about that. Actually, even as she says it in jest, I\u2019m\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>I\u2019m not jesting!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>\u2014I know my chest is popping out right now, like, \u201cI am the man!\u201d; right? Thanks, honey!\u201d [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>No, you <em>are<\/em>; I love it! [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>Every man feels <em>great<\/em> when a woman does that, seriously\u2014especially when it\u2019s your wife. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI honestly\u2014maybe this is an impossible dream, but I was hoping boys would become men.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>Again, that doesn\u2019t happen in an instant, but it does happen by decisions. I was hoping a decision would be made that day to become, like you said, Bob, a new gentleman\u2014a Jesus gentleman\u2014that treats all people, <em>especially women<\/em>, the way they deserve\u2014as precious, made in the image of God.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Three things: honor, respect, and sacrificial love. Those were the three things you were calling us to, as men\u2014it\u2019s what the Bible calls us to. A guy listening today can say: \u201cOkay; I can, by God\u2019s grace, with the power of the Holy Spirit working through me, I can be more honorable; I can be more worthy of respect; I can be more sacrificial in my love for my spouse.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnn, for the women who are listening, they can find those things in their husband that they can cheer on and, then, do what you just did. They can cheer their husband on and cause their husband to step up.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>Exactly. I do think some women may hear this and think, \u201cMy husband\u2019s not doing that.\u201d They might feel a sense of discouragement, but I would encourage you to say exactly what you said, Bob\u2014is: \u201cLook for the good, because it\u2019s in there. It may be hidden, but you can find it and draw it out.\u201d That <em>does<\/em> make a man\u2019s chest go out.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>Yes; you see how big my chest is right now? [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>I see it, honey.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>It\u2019s like I did a thousand pushups right now.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut I would say this\u2014if you\u2019re a single woman looking for a man, do not settle. Do not settle for a man, who\u2019s treating women as a commodity. If you even see a hint of that, man, I\u2019m saying: \u201cPut on the brakes and say, \u2018I am going to find a man who lives out like Christ.\u2019\u201d They\u2019re out there; they really are.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, I would say to the men out there\u2014you know, at the end of that message I said: \u201cSurrender your mind\/the way you think, and surrender your body.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>I was getting into the sexual temptation there. I would say to these guys, \u201cMan, you and I can\u2019t do it unless we surrender; and that means give Jesus <em>everything<\/em>, and let Him do it in us and, then, through us.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes; and I think there may be some guys who\u2019d like to hear your entire message. I\u2019ve learned so much from them, and there have been seasons that were really challenging in their marriage. I saw loyalty, in the covenant, on display. I\u2019ve seen my dad pursue my mom, in fresh ways, through different stages of life; yes, I\u2019m really grateful for him as a dad.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Not all of our listeners have a legacy that they can look at and say, \u201cMy parents persevered and went 50 years.\u201d God is the God of healing and comfort in the midst of those challenges; but for those, who can look back and say, \u201cMy parents modeled something,\u201d that\u2019s a treasure to hang onto.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>David: <\/strong>Yes; it is. I remember my grandparents\u2019 50<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary. It marked me, as a 12-year-old. I remember it happening and celebrating. We\u2019re getting the opportunity to do that with my family; I hope that marks them.
