We were talking to a pastor who described some of the ordeals that we go through in life as holy scars. I remember you kind of latched onto that description and said, \u201cThat\u2019s a great\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014\u201cpicture of how God uses pain in our lives for redemptive purposes.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> The story you\u2019re going to hear today\u2014the first one\u2014is\u2014I\u2019ll tell you\u2014it\u2019s just a classic in <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> history. John and Donna Bishop from Rosebud, Arkansas\u2014I\u2019ll just promise you something folks we\u2019re going to be standing in line to wash their feet in heaven. This is a pair of great human beings who have endured incredible challenges in their life, their marriage, their family\u2014but they stood strong for Jesus Christ. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Recorded Audio]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Donna: <\/strong>We were pastoring a church there in Heber Springs\u2014we had a good church that we enjoyed\u2014everything was going great. We had three sons, and they were growing up. We also worked on our youth camp there\u2014lived on the camp grounds, and started the youth camp. We were just\u2014I would say it was a perfect life. Everything was just great. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe were just having a great time serving the Lord\u2014our boys and our family. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, all of the sudden, he got sick, and the pain in the back of his head just got severe. He said, \u201cYou\u2019re going to have to take me to the hospital. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>John: <\/strong>When I woke up from meningitis, I did not know her\u2014I didn\u2019t know my name\u2014I really didn\u2019t know anything. I had a very unusual case of amnesia that\u2014I didn\u2019t just forget names and people\u2014I forgot everything. I didn\u2019t know how to eat\u2014I\u2019d forgotten how to chew food. For several weeks, she had to do everything for me\u2014and you know what I mean\u2014I say <em>everything<\/em>. I was like a baby. This went on for weeks and weeks. It took me near two years to where I could walk. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Donna: <\/strong>I kept thinking, \u201cOkay, now, he\u2019ll get it back.\u201d So, he didn\u2019t remember marriage or wedding. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I\u2019d get our photo album out, and I\u2019d say, \u201cDon\u2019t you remember\u2014you know?\u201d I\u2019d try to trick him to see\u2014\u201cOkay, I know he can remember something.\u201d I just kept trying to go back and\u2014but he just doesn\u2019t have anything. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>John: <\/strong>I didn\u2019t know what words were. That\u2019s why I couldn\u2019t read or write. My Donna taught me phonics finally, and my ten year old son would come home from school, sit on the couch, and help Daddy learn to read. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSee, I didn\u2019t know what I was, either. I said, \u201cWhat am I?\u201d She said, \u201cYou\u2019re a preacher.\u201d I said, \u201cWhat a preacher is?\u201d Of course, my family telling me, \u201cYou\u2019re a Christian\u201d but I didn\u2019t know what that was. All I remember is from 1995 to this day\u2014I remember nothing before that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, everything about my life is what\u2014that happened beforehand\u2014is what I\u2019ve been told. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThey had some tapes of me preaching before my illness\u2014but one day, I listening to one of my messages\u2014and I was pretty harsh\u2014and I was listening, and I thought, \u201cI don\u2019t like that guy.\u201d I took the tape out, and I threw out the window. [Laughter]\u00a0 I liked the new me better. You know my Donna puts it this way\u2014Before my illness, I sort of knocked them over the head but now, I grab them by the heart. I think the Lord just decided, \u201cIf I\u2019m going to use John, I\u2019m going to have to break him all the way down and start over.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Studio]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Bob, I\u2019ve got to tell you\u2014what a privilege to share that story with our listening audience. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI mean it\u2019s like finding a great meal or a great dessert and asking a friend over to enjoy it with you. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Well, and that point he made at the end\u2014where John said that it was like God had said, \u201cIf I\u2019m going to use John, I\u2019ve going to break him all the way down and rebuild him\u201d\u2014that\u2019s how God works in all of us; right? Breaks us down\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Well\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014and then rebuilds us. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Maybe, not quite as specifically as he did John because\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014and Donna\u2014what a great story and what a great response to what God did in their lives. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>We\u2019re going to hear another story. This comes from friends of ours who live in New Zealand when their daughter went off on a school trip and they got some devastating news. Michelle Hill who is a part of our team here at <em>FamilyLife<\/em> shared their story with listeners a while back. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Previous Interview]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Michelle: <\/strong>It was in the spring of 2008. Natasha and a group of her friends from school went to spend this\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014long weekend at the Outdoor Pursuit Center. It\u2019s what they call the OPC, and cool things happen at the OPC\u2014things like rock climbing and hiking, caving and rope-courses\u2014but the weather forecast called for rain\u2014and lots of it actually. And in New Zealand when it rains, rivers can flood\u2014and they flood fast. Natasha\u2019s dad Andy remembers how he first found out about the flood. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andy: <\/strong>The first news I got on the laptop was a death\u2014and that was just\u2014I didn\u2019t want to see that. It was just the furthest thing from my mind that some children at OPC would die. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nikki: <\/strong>But there would be lots of schools down there. It won\u2019t just be Natasha\u2019s. I\u2019m sure it won\u2019t be Natasha. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Michelle: <\/strong>This is Natasha\u2019s mom Nikki Bray. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nikki: <\/strong>And for some reason, I just started to become incredibly sad\u2014this overwhelming sadness. I started crying, and I said\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014to God, \u201cLord\u201d\u2014I said\u2014\u201cplease let Natasha be safe.\u201d I have never heard God speak to me; but I heard this voice in my spirit say, \u201cShe is safe. She\u2019s with Me.\u201d I just remember saying, \u201cI don\u2019t want her with You. I want her with me.\u201d Then I got home\u2014and everything started unfolding. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>I got home from hockey practice that night, and I had a text from another friend saying, \u201cHave you heard what\u2019s happened?\u201d I straight away see, \u201cIs Tasha okay?\u201d I said, \u201cI don\u2019t know where she is.\u201d <br>\u00a0\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Michelle: <\/strong>This is Jessica Hancock. She\u2019s one of Natasha\u2019s best friends. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>So, I got my parents to take me straight to the church; and then, when we found out that people had, in fact, passed away\u2014just not knowing if she was still alive\u2014it wasn\u2019t something that I ever want to go through again. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nikki: <\/strong>It wasn\u2019t until two o\u2019clock in the morning that we finally got a knock at the door from a\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014very tearful, red-eyed policeman who just walked in. And as soon as we saw the policeman, everybody in our house\u2014because we had so many people in our home at the time\u2014just burst into tears knowing that this was the worst that we could hear. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>I always wondered, \u201cWhat\u2019s the point in taking her away from me? She\u2019s my best friend.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nikki: <\/strong>They had been so looking forward to going. There were 40 of them going. So, they were packing their bags on this Saturday. As they were leaving, I just said, \u201cOh, honey, how will you feel if it rains the whole time you\u2019re away, and you don\u2019t get to do any of these great outdoor activities that you are all hanging out to do?\u201d She just said, \u201cOh, Mum\u201d\u2014she said\u2014\u201cwe are going to jump in puddles.\u201d \u2014meaning that no matter what happens\u2014no matter what the situation\u2014we will just make the most of it anyway\u2014and that was the kind of person she was. She would make the most of any opportunity to pour herself into it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Michelle: <\/strong>Natasha\u2019s sister Olivia was two years younger than her. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Olivia: <\/strong>She always had a most genuine relationship with God that I just always wanted to follow and have that for myself. She would always be reading her Bible and always be teaching us Bible verses\u2014or always be telling us about what she was going through with God and what she was learning. I just always looked up to her, and I really wanted to have that relationship as well. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andy: <\/strong>She had a maturity in her faith at a young age that I haven\u2019t ever seen again. I would take her out for the breakfast Bible studies\u2014and she would do it with enthusiasm. She wrote her prayers inside the closet on a piece of cardboard inside her wardrobe door and had written a number of prayers inside there for people that she was praying for\u2014her teachers at school, her siblings\u2014those sorts of things. So, it was kind of nice to find that afterwards. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nikki: <\/strong>Tasha poured her life into people. She would write notes to them all the time. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAfter the tragedy, I remember people coming up to me and saying, \u201cOh, she put this little note in my desk when I was going through a tough time\u201d and she wrote them to her siblings as well. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think where she saw an opportunity to do good, she did it. She never held back and invested her life into people. God continues to use her story\u2014even today, people are becoming Christians or their giving their life or they\u2019re finding purpose. It just keeps coming back. We just keep hearing so many stories, and He continues to use their lives even so many years onwards. Their impact is still felt. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Studio]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Well, that\u2019s Andy and Nikki Bray who give leadership to FamilyLife\u2019s ministry in New Zealand and who shared with us about one of the darkest hours in their life\u2014in their family. The loss of a child is one of the profoundest pains any parent can experience. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I cannot imagine, and I just look at this couple and what they\u2019ve been through\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014it\u2019s fascinating to watch them and their faith and how they stood strong. And I have to tell our listeners kind of the rest of the story. They really hadn\u2019t been away. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Andy and Nikki hadn\u2019t? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>No. They had not really been away on kind of an anniversary\/honeymoon adventure in decades. So, we arranged for them to join us on one of our conferences that we had. They came and joined us and just had a delightful time\u2014and they were beaming, and they just enjoyed one another\u2019s presence. You know it\u2019s just fun to bless people with a gift. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You know I just want to say to the listeners who bless <em>FamilyLife<\/em> with a gift\u2014I want to say, \u201cThank you for how you\u2019ve kept <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> on the air over these past 25 years\u2014remarkable.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>There is one other moment we want to visit before we wrap up. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s a moment that your family was a part of. You were preparing for your daughter Rebecca and your son-in-law\u2014Jake\u2014for the birth of their first child\u2014excited about having a new grandbaby in the family. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes, they had called us in the early morning hours of the day, said they were in labor, and she was going to give birth soon. Then, there was no follow-up call, no follow-up email\u2014and we wondered if something was wrong\u2014but we had no idea what, and there was no way we could have anticipated what took place. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You did learn later that your granddaughter Molly had been born with a congenital defect in her brain. You and Barbara\u2014along with Jake\u2019s parents Bill and Pam Mutz\u2014went to Colorado to be with\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014your daughter and your son-in-law and to visit Molly to meet her\u2014but you knew there was a day ahead when you\u2019d have to say goodbye to Molly. Rebecca and Jake and others shared with us later about what happened on the day you said goodbye to Molly. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Recorded Audio]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> We both held her one more time\u2014Jake held her first, and then I did. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>Yes, there\u2019s part of me that\u2014that maybe wanted it to be done with. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca: <\/strong>Oh, it\u2019s your last day, and you know it\u2019s your last day. That\u2019s a hard struggle to have going on\u2014on that last day. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>There was part of me that wanted to wait as long as possible\u2014but it kind of felt just stuck. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca: <\/strong>Then, our nurse came and said,\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014\u201cOkay, what time do you want to do this?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>But then\u2014when the time came\u2014we pushed it back and pushed it back again. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca: <\/strong>We were just like\u2014\u201cBeth, how do we make this kind of decision? How do we know when is right? I mean that\u2019s just\u2014we just don\u2019t know. I mean we don\u2019t know if we\u2014of course, we want more than an hour with her now.\u201d <br><br><strong>Barbara: <\/strong>The photographer had come, and she\u2019d gone back. Then, it\u2019s 3:30\u2014and they weren\u2019t taking her life support until after she came out. So, we\u2019re watching the clock. Finally, she came out. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>Finally, when it was coming to the end of the shift and the nurse said, \u201cI won\u2019t leave\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca: <\/strong>So, I held her, and we talked and we cried\u2014but then, Beth came in and said, \u201cOkay, are you ready?\u201d We said, \u201cNo, we need more time, please.\u201d <br>\u00a0\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>I think it was less hard for me, relative to Becca. Like, when they\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014the nurses came in, I think, one time, I told Becca, \u201cLet\u2019s go ahead and do it.\u201d She said, \u201cNo, not yet.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca: <\/strong>So she said, \u201cOkay, I\u2019ll be back in 20 minutes or so.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>When they came in, again, Becca kind of said, \u201cNo, no,\u201d to me not really aloud. I said, \u201cBabe, we need to do this. We need to let her go.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Rebecca: <\/strong>So, when she came back the second time, we didn\u2019t\u2014we didn\u2019t say anything. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Pam: <\/strong>My daughter who is a nurse, Lori, also had said to me, \u201cMom, how would you like to be the nurse that\u2019s chosen to pull the tubes out?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca: <\/strong>I replay her\u2014the nurse coming in. Sometimes, I think I should be angry at the nurse for\u2014but I\u2019m not mad at her\u2014but it all happened in slow motion. She came in. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, another doctor came in because she had to observe the whole thing. I just remember crying and telling her I loved her and telling Jesus to come get her quick. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>Yes, it would have always felt too soon to take her off life support. So, finally, unhooked all the tubes and took her off life support. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca: <\/strong>I don\u2019t know when Jesus took her, but I think it happened so fast. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>We sat together on the couch and held Molly together and prayed and cried and released her into Jesus\u2019s arms. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Studio]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I don\u2019t know how to describe that week, but I do know that\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014Jake and Rebecca\u2019s marriage and family are still standing. I\u2019m reminded of Christ\u2019s words\u2014it\u2019s how He finished His most famous sermon\u2014the Sermon on the Mount. In Matthew, chapter 7, He said, \u201cEveryone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s about as real as we can get here as we finish the year, Bob. Either Jesus Christ is who He claims to be\u2014that\u2019s He\u2019s defeated death, He\u2019s alive from the dead, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father, and is able to shoulder our difficulties with us. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>21:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe is our refuge. He is our strength, and He still is the greatest homebuilder in the world. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>None of us knows the trial or the suffering that may be ahead for us in 2018. We can\u2019t know the future, but we can know the God who holds the future\u2014and we can face whatever is ahead if our house is firmly planted on the right foundation. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You know what\u2019s interesting? To watch a young couple\u2014this\u2014Jake and Rebecca were in the early years of their marriage\u2014this is a tough stone to have thrown at you early in your marriage\u2014but they have grown stronger\u2014hadn\u2019t been easy, hasn\u2019t been flawless\u2014but they\u2019ve not forgotten Molly. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>22:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThey\u2019ve gone on to have five additional children and just a great family. I have to conclude with this story. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe only time in my life I have ever cried so hard I laughed was when Rebecca called me after a couple of years\u2014and she called me to tell me that she was pregnant\u2014with twins\u2014yes. I cried so hard that I laughed. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Our hope and our prayer for all of our listeners in the New Year is that if you find yourself in the valley\u2014in a dark place\u2014that you would also find that God is your rock, your fortress\u2014your ever present help in times of need. We were talking to a pastor who described some of the ordeals that we go through in life as holy scars. I remember you kind of latched onto that description and said, \u201cThat\u2019s a great\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014\u201cpicture of how God uses pain in our lives for redemptive purposes.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> The story you\u2019re going to hear today\u2014the first one\u2014is\u2014I\u2019ll tell you\u2014it\u2019s just a classic in <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> history. John and Donna Bishop from Rosebud, Arkansas\u2014I\u2019ll just promise you something folks we\u2019re going to be standing in line to wash their feet in heaven. This is a pair of great human beings who have endured incredible challenges in their life, their marriage, their family\u2014but they stood strong for Jesus Christ. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Recorded Audio]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Donna: <\/strong>We were pastoring a church there in Heber Springs\u2014we had a good church that we enjoyed\u2014everything was going great. We had three sons, and they were growing up. We also worked on our youth camp there\u2014lived on the camp grounds, and started the youth camp. We were just\u2014I would say it was a perfect life. Everything was just great. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe were just having a great time serving the Lord\u2014our boys and our family. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, all of the sudden, he got sick, and the pain in the back of his head just got severe. He said, \u201cYou\u2019re going to have to take me to the hospital. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>John: <\/strong>When I woke up from meningitis, I did not know her\u2014I didn\u2019t know my name\u2014I really didn\u2019t know anything. I had a very unusual case of amnesia that\u2014I didn\u2019t just forget names and people\u2014I forgot everything. I didn\u2019t know how to eat\u2014I\u2019d forgotten how to chew food. For several weeks, she had to do everything for me\u2014and you know what I mean\u2014I say <em>everything<\/em>. I was like a baby. This went on for weeks and weeks. It took me near two years to where I could walk. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Donna: <\/strong>I kept thinking, \u201cOkay, now, he\u2019ll get it back.\u201d So, he didn\u2019t remember marriage or wedding. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I\u2019d get our photo album out, and I\u2019d say, \u201cDon\u2019t you remember\u2014you know?\u201d I\u2019d try to trick him to see\u2014\u201cOkay, I know he can remember something.\u201d I just kept trying to go back and\u2014but he just doesn\u2019t have anything. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>John: <\/strong>I didn\u2019t know what words were. That\u2019s why I couldn\u2019t read or write. My Donna taught me phonics finally, and my ten year old son would come home from school, sit on the couch, and help Daddy learn to read. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSee, I didn\u2019t know what I was, either. I said, \u201cWhat am I?\u201d She said, \u201cYou\u2019re a preacher.\u201d I said, \u201cWhat a preacher is?\u201d Of course, my family telling me, \u201cYou\u2019re a Christian\u201d but I didn\u2019t know what that was. All I remember is from 1995 to this day\u2014I remember nothing before that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, everything about my life is what\u2014that happened beforehand\u2014is what I\u2019ve been told. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThey had some tapes of me preaching before my illness\u2014but one day, I listening to one of my messages\u2014and I was pretty harsh\u2014and I was listening, and I thought, \u201cI don\u2019t like that guy.\u201d I took the tape out, and I threw out the window. [Laughter]\u00a0 I liked the new me better. You know my Donna puts it this way\u2014Before my illness, I sort of knocked them over the head but now, I grab them by the heart. I think the Lord just decided, \u201cIf I\u2019m going to use John, I\u2019m going to have to break him all the way down and start over.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Studio]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Bob, I\u2019ve got to tell you\u2014what a privilege to share that story with our listening audience. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI mean it\u2019s like finding a great meal or a great dessert and asking a friend over to enjoy it with you. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Well, and that point he made at the end\u2014where John said that it was like God had said, \u201cIf I\u2019m going to use John, I\u2019ve going to break him all the way down and rebuild him\u201d\u2014that\u2019s how God works in all of us; right? Breaks us down\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Well\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014and then rebuilds us. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Maybe, not quite as specifically as he did John because\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014and Donna\u2014what a great story and what a great response to what God did in their lives. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>We\u2019re going to hear another story. This comes from friends of ours who live in New Zealand when their daughter went off on a school trip and they got some devastating news. Michelle Hill who is a part of our team here at <em>FamilyLife<\/em> shared their story with listeners a while back. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Previous Interview]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Michelle: <\/strong>It was in the spring of 2008. Natasha and a group of her friends from school went to spend this\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014long weekend at the Outdoor Pursuit Center. It\u2019s what they call the OPC, and cool things happen at the OPC\u2014things like rock climbing and hiking, caving and rope-courses\u2014but the weather forecast called for rain\u2014and lots of it actually. And in New Zealand when it rains, rivers can flood\u2014and they flood fast. Natasha\u2019s dad Andy remembers how he first found out about the flood. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andy: <\/strong>The first news I got on the laptop was a death\u2014and that was just\u2014I didn\u2019t want to see that. It was just the furthest thing from my mind that some children at OPC would die. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nikki: <\/strong>But there would be lots of schools down there. It won\u2019t just be Natasha\u2019s. I\u2019m sure it won\u2019t be Natasha. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Michelle: <\/strong>This is Natasha\u2019s mom Nikki Bray. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nikki: <\/strong>And for some reason, I just started to become incredibly sad\u2014this overwhelming sadness. I started crying, and I said\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014to God, \u201cLord\u201d\u2014I said\u2014\u201cplease let Natasha be safe.\u201d I have never heard God speak to me; but I heard this voice in my spirit say, \u201cShe is safe. She\u2019s with Me.\u201d I just remember saying, \u201cI don\u2019t want her with You. I want her with me.\u201d Then I got home\u2014and everything started unfolding. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>I got home from hockey practice that night, and I had a text from another friend saying, \u201cHave you heard what\u2019s happened?\u201d I straight away see, \u201cIs Tasha okay?\u201d I said, \u201cI don\u2019t know where she is.\u201d <br>\u00a0\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Michelle: <\/strong>This is Jessica Hancock. She\u2019s one of Natasha\u2019s best friends. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>So, I got my parents to take me straight to the church; and then, when we found out that people had, in fact, passed away\u2014just not knowing if she was still alive\u2014it wasn\u2019t something that I ever want to go through again. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nikki: <\/strong>It wasn\u2019t until two o\u2019clock in the morning that we finally got a knock at the door from a\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014very tearful, red-eyed policeman who just walked in. And as soon as we saw the policeman, everybody in our house\u2014because we had so many people in our home at the time\u2014just burst into tears knowing that this was the worst that we could hear. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>I always wondered, \u201cWhat\u2019s the point in taking her away from me? She\u2019s my best friend.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nikki: <\/strong>They had been so looking forward to going. There were 40 of them going. So, they were packing their bags on this Saturday. As they were leaving, I just said, \u201cOh, honey, how will you feel if it rains the whole time you\u2019re away, and you don\u2019t get to do any of these great outdoor activities that you are all hanging out to do?\u201d She just said, \u201cOh, Mum\u201d\u2014she said\u2014\u201cwe are going to jump in puddles.\u201d \u2014meaning that no matter what happens\u2014no matter what the situation\u2014we will just make the most of it anyway\u2014and that was the kind of person she was. She would make the most of any opportunity to pour herself into it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Michelle: <\/strong>Natasha\u2019s sister Olivia was two years younger than her. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Olivia: <\/strong>She always had a most genuine relationship with God that I just always wanted to follow and have that for myself. She would always be reading her Bible and always be teaching us Bible verses\u2014or always be telling us about what she was going through with God and what she was learning. I just always looked up to her, and I really wanted to have that relationship as well. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andy: <\/strong>She had a maturity in her faith at a young age that I haven\u2019t ever seen again. I would take her out for the breakfast Bible studies\u2014and she would do it with enthusiasm. She wrote her prayers inside the closet on a piece of cardboard inside her wardrobe door and had written a number of prayers inside there for people that she was praying for\u2014her teachers at school, her siblings\u2014those sorts of things. So, it was kind of nice to find that afterwards. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nikki: <\/strong>Tasha poured her life into people. She would write notes to them all the time. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAfter the tragedy, I remember people coming up to me and saying, \u201cOh, she put this little note in my desk when I was going through a tough time\u201d and she wrote them to her siblings as well. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think where she saw an opportunity to do good, she did it. She never held back and invested her life into people. God continues to use her story\u2014even today, people are becoming Christians or their giving their life or they\u2019re finding purpose. It just keeps coming back. We just keep hearing so many stories, and He continues to use their lives even so many years onwards. Their impact is still felt. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Studio]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Well, that\u2019s Andy and Nikki Bray who give leadership to FamilyLife\u2019s ministry in New Zealand and who shared with us about one of the darkest hours in their life\u2014in their family. The loss of a child is one of the profoundest pains any parent can experience. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I cannot imagine, and I just look at this couple and what they\u2019ve been through\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014it\u2019s fascinating to watch them and their faith and how they stood strong. And I have to tell our listeners kind of the rest of the story. They really hadn\u2019t been away. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Andy and Nikki hadn\u2019t? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>No. They had not really been away on kind of an anniversary\/honeymoon adventure in decades. So, we arranged for them to join us on one of our conferences that we had. They came and joined us and just had a delightful time\u2014and they were beaming, and they just enjoyed one another\u2019s presence. You were preparing for your daughter Rebecca and your son-in-law\u2014Jake\u2014for the birth of their first child\u2014excited about having a new grandbaby in the family. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes, they had called us in the early morning hours of the day, said they were in labor, and she was going to give birth soon. Then, there was no follow-up call, no follow-up email\u2014and we wondered if something was wrong\u2014but we had no idea what, and there was no way we could have anticipated what took place. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You did learn later that your granddaughter Molly had been born with a congenital defect in her brain. You and Barbara\u2014along with Jake\u2019s parents Bill and Pam Mutz\u2014went to Colorado to be with\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014your daughter and your son-in-law and to visit Molly to meet her\u2014but you knew there was a day ahead when you\u2019d have to say goodbye to Molly. Rebecca and Jake and others shared with us later about what happened on the day you said goodbye to Molly. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Recorded Audio]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> We both held her one more time\u2014Jake held her first, and then I did. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>Yes, there\u2019s part of me that\u2014that maybe wanted it to be done with. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca: <\/strong>Oh, it\u2019s your last day, and you know it\u2019s your last day. That\u2019s a hard struggle to have going on\u2014on that last day. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>There was part of me that wanted to wait as long as possible\u2014but it kind of felt just stuck. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca: <\/strong>Then, our nurse came and said,\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014\u201cOkay, what time do you want to do this?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>But then\u2014when the time came\u2014we pushed it back and pushed it back again. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca: <\/strong>We were just like\u2014\u201cBeth, how do we make this kind of decision? How do we know when is right? I mean that\u2019s just\u2014we just don\u2019t know. I mean we don\u2019t know if we\u2014of course, we want more than an hour with her now.\u201d <br><br><strong>Barbara: <\/strong>The photographer had come, and she\u2019d gone back. Then, it\u2019s 3:30\u2014and they weren\u2019t taking her life support until after she came out. So, we\u2019re watching the clock. Finally, she came out. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>Finally, when it was coming to the end of the shift and the nurse said, \u201cI won\u2019t leave\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca: <\/strong>So, I held her, and we talked and we cried\u2014but then, Beth came in and said, \u201cOkay, are you ready?\u201d We said, \u201cNo, we need more time, please.\u201d <br>\u00a0\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>I think it was less hard for me, relative to Becca. Like, when they\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014the nurses came in, I think, one time, I told Becca, \u201cLet\u2019s go ahead and do it.\u201d She said, \u201cNo, not yet.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca: <\/strong>So she said, \u201cOkay, I\u2019ll be back in 20 minutes or so.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>When they came in, again, Becca kind of said, \u201cNo, no,\u201d to me not really aloud. I said, \u201cBabe, we need to do this. We need to let her go.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Rebecca: <\/strong>So, when she came back the second time, we didn\u2019t\u2014we didn\u2019t say anything. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Pam: <\/strong>My daughter who is a nurse, Lori, also had said to me, \u201cMom, how would you like to be the nurse that\u2019s chosen to pull the tubes out?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca: <\/strong>I replay her\u2014the nurse coming in. Sometimes, I think I should be angry at the nurse for\u2014but I\u2019m not mad at her\u2014but it all happened in slow motion. She came in. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, another doctor came in because she had to observe the whole thing. I just remember crying and telling her I loved her and telling Jesus to come get her quick. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>Yes, it would have always felt too soon to take her off life support. So, finally, unhooked all the tubes and took her off life support. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca: <\/strong>I don\u2019t know when Jesus took her, but I think it happened so fast. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>We sat together on the couch and held Molly together and prayed and cried and released her into Jesus\u2019s arms. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Studio]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I don\u2019t know how to describe that week, but I do know that\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014Jake and Rebecca\u2019s marriage and family are still standing. I\u2019m reminded of Christ\u2019s words\u2014it\u2019s how He finished His most famous sermon\u2014the Sermon on the Mount. In Matthew, chapter 7, He said, \u201cEveryone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s about as real as we can get here as we finish the year, Bob. Either Jesus Christ is who He claims to be\u2014that\u2019s He\u2019s defeated death, He\u2019s alive from the dead, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father, and is able to shoulder our difficulties with us. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>21:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe is our refuge. He is our strength, and He still is the greatest homebuilder in the world. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>None of us knows the trial or the suffering that may be ahead for us in 2018. We can\u2019t know the future, but we can know the God who holds the future\u2014and we can face whatever is ahead if our house is firmly planted on the right foundation. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You know what\u2019s interesting? To watch a young couple\u2014this\u2014Jake and Rebecca were in the early years of their marriage\u2014this is a tough stone to have thrown at you early in your marriage\u2014but they have grown stronger\u2014hadn\u2019t been easy, hasn\u2019t been flawless\u2014but they\u2019ve not forgotten Molly. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>22:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThey\u2019ve gone on to have five additional children and just a great family. I have to conclude with this story. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe only time in my life I have ever cried so hard I laughed was when Rebecca called me after a couple of years\u2014and she called me to tell me that she was pregnant\u2014with twins\u2014yes.
