Christmas is a perfect opportunity \/ a perfect time, because we\u2019re thinking about Jesus anyway\u2014we\u2019re singing songs about Him. That\u2019s the question we\u2019ll tackle today. Stay with us.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd welcome to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>. Thanks for joining us on the Tuesday edition. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo you did not\u2014last Friday morning you didn\u2019t get up at 6 and go stand in line at Best Buy or someplace; did you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I did not; I did not.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Barbara, you didn\u2019t either?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>No; I did not, and I never have; nor do I ever really want to, honestly.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Tracy?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracy: <\/strong>You would have missed it at 6; you\u2019d have to be there at 11.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Yes; she\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracy: <\/strong>You have to miss your Thanksgiving dinner.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Did you do any of that?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracy: <\/strong>No.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Camp out\u2014you have to camp out.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracy: <\/strong>You have to camp out.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Well, they\u2019re moving it back every year. Stores are opening\u2014instead of opening at 5 or 6 a.m., they\u2019re opening at midnight or who knows when.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>I like to get a deal\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>\u2014but not that badly.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014I like to sleep. [Laughter] You put those two together, and I like to sleep more than I like to get a deal.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracy: <\/strong>Agreed.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>I go: \u201cYou know what? It\u2019s worth 50 bucks for me to sleep in a little extra this morning on the day after Thanksgiving.\u201d When you can do it all, like yesterday, online, just whenever you want to, that makes the whole thing a whole lot easier; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>I think a lot of people really like Cyber Monday shopping over Black Friday shopping.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong><br><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Now today is the day that we\u2019re supposed to kind of purge all of our shopping\u2014instead of thinking who we\u2019re going to buy gifts for, we think about giving; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes; and I just want to go to a big picture about giving\u2014to the assignment that is given to parents. One of the passages, Bob, that I have just been\u2014I don\u2019t know, it\u2019s just been bouncing around in my heart that we\u2019re not doing this, and it\u2019s Psalm 78\u2014it says, \u201cHe established a testimony in Jacob and appointed a law in Israel, which He commanded our fathers to teach to their children.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe\u2019re coming up on gift-giving time. One of the greatest gifts we can give our children is to teach them the truth about who God is\u2014that\u2019s what the command of the Scripture is\u2014Psalm 78. But also what it commands us to do is to give them the gift of sharing how Jesus Christ has impacted your life and how the gift of eternal life took up its residence in your soul. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAs a mom and a dad, you received the best gift of all. Here we are, on Giving Tuesday. I think this would be a great time\u2014tonight, at the dinner table\u2014for families to gather around and talk about the greatest gift that has ever been given, and how we have the opportunity to begin to give that gift to other people when we share how Jesus Christ has changed our lives.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think what parents are looking for today is\u2014I think parents are looking for ways to practically pass on their testimonies\u2014to practically pass on the truth about who God is, and His law, and how to live, and how He expects us to do life. Barbara and Tracy and the team, here, at FamilyLife, called Ever Thine Home<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, have come up with some practical ways, especially at the Christmas season, to be able to pass on and <em>give<\/em> your children the truth about God.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracy: <\/strong>I think you\u2019re right; I think that\u2019s what we want to do. So many times, we don\u2019t know how to do that; because we\u2019re doing so many practical things\u2014that are things that need our attention right now\u2014and we forget that\u2019s <em>really<\/em> what needs our attention, right now, today. That\u2019s what I love about what we\u2019re doing at Ever Thine Home\u2014we\u2019re giving parents \/ we\u2019re putting it right into their hands: \u201cThis is a way to do that, tonight, at the dinner table. You don\u2019t have to come up with anything\u2014you don\u2019t have to brainstorm \/ you don\u2019t even have to text each other during the day which verse you\u2019re going to read tonight\u2014you just read the stories that go with the ornaments.\u201d Making it practical: \u201cWe can do that. There\u2019s a big idea that you\u2019ve come up with, Barbara, over the last six years, that really does take the season of Christmas\u2014a time that we are celebrating the birth of Christ and who He is\u2014to help parents to be able to do that in a practical way.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Yes; for the last six years, we\u2019ve created a new set of ornaments every year. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tEach set focuses on a different topic related to Jesus and who He is in the names that we have put on the ornaments or are the ornaments themselves. After six years, we have, I guess, 30-something; is that right?\u2014maybe it\u2019s more than that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Oh, it\u2019s over 30.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>It\u2019s over 30\u2014anyway, we have a lot of names of Jesus on ornaments\u2014[Laughter]\u2014different sizes, and different shapes, and different colors of ornaments\u2014that can make your Christmas tree all about Jesus. We all know that Jesus is the reason for the season. We\u2019re trying to make it easy for moms and dads, and families, and grandparents, too, to make your Christmas holiday focused on Jesus <em>and<\/em> give you easy ways to teach your children who He is, why He was born in a manger in Bethlehem, why He was born to die\u2014the whole story. The whole gospel story is wrapped up in His names. We\u2019ve created these to make it easy for families to make the <em>main<\/em> thing the most important thing in your holiday experience.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>There\u2019s a verse in 2 Timothy that\u2014I remember when I read this\u2014and it kind of struck me as being odd. Second Timothy is the <em>last<\/em> letter the Apostle Paul wrote that we still have. If you look at the chronology of stuff in the New Testament, as far as we can tell, this would be the last letter he wrote. Timothy was his prot\u00e9g\u00e9. Timothy, at this point, was a pastor of a church in Ephesus. Paul was in Rome\u2014he was writing to his son in the faith. He is writing to him about pastoral responsibilities and what you have to do.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou get to 2 Timothy, Chapter 2, verse 8\u2014and here\u2019s what Paul writes: \u201cTimothy, remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, the offspring of David, as preached in my gospel, for which I am suffering, bound in chains as a criminal.\u201d I remember reading that and going, \u201cHere\u2019s Paul talking to a pastor; and he says, \u2018Remember Jesus.\u2019\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>And the reason he says it is because pastors forget, and so do parents, and so do all of us. Martin Luther used to say, \u201cThe reason I preach the gospel every Sunday is because, every week, I forget it.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Unless we are doing things to deliberately remind ourselves of the spiritual reality in which we\u2019re living, we can get so caught up in the temporal reality that we lose focus. That\u2019s the reason for having holiday decorations that just keep it front of mind, so you can\u2019t turn around without going, \u201cOh yes; Jesus,\u201d \u201cOh yes; Jesus,\u201d\u2014right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Practically speaking, Christmas has become all about tangible gifts that we give; and yet, there\u2019s an intangible part of every human being called a soul. Every person has a soul. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOur nation is in desperate need of hearing the reality about their soul\u2014that they need a Savior to take up residence in their lives, where they can be forgiven and know they have eternal life; but secondly, they can get to know God so they can live life as God intended it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>And really, we talk about making your Christmas meaningful. The only way to have meaning in your life is to know Jesus Christ; because that\u2019s the source of real meaning, real purpose, real identification with why we\u2019re here. He has the answers to everything. So to make your Christmas meaningful, it has to be about Him. If you don\u2019t know Him, or people in your family don\u2019t know Him, or your children don\u2019t know Him, Christmas is a perfect opportunity \/ a perfect time, because we\u2019re thinking about Jesus anyway\u2014we\u2019re singing songs about him.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe would love to help you with the content\u2014the books that come with our ornaments or other resources that FamilyLife offers. With the very first set of ornaments that came out five years ago, this friend of ours was reading the stories that come with the ornaments to his children. His young son\u2014after one of the stories was over\u2014he looked at his dad and said, \u201cI don\u2019t think I know Jesus as Lord,\u201d because the name that they were reading about is Christ the Lord. It was a perfect opportunity for this dad to talk to his son about what it means to know Christ: \u201cWhat does it mean to invite Jesus Christ into your life?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat\u2019s how you make Christmas meaningful\u2014is by talking about the One who came at Christmas\u2014the One who initiated this idea in the first place\u2014and get to know Him over the month of December. It\u2019s a great opportunity to make your family grow together and to grow personally in your soul, as you were talking about, Dennis, in our relationship with Him.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Tracy, you have a young family. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou also work, here, at FamilyLife. It\u2019s hard to get the mind-share to get a plan to know how to help your kids celebrate Jesus Christ at Christmas. Has this helped you? We have a daughter who\u2019s five and a daughter who\u2019s three. When we were first pregnant with our first daughter, a wise mentor said to me: \u201cYour kids only have so much mental capacity, and you only have so much time. It might feel <em>forever<\/em> right now\u2014you haven\u2019t even had your first child yet, she\u2019s still growing in your womb\u2014but you really only have a certain amount of time, and they can only hold so much in their little minds. Sure, you could hang just some gold globes on your tree, for example; you could listen to <em>The Wheels on the Bus<\/em>\u2014there\u2019s nothing <em>wrong<\/em> with that. But if they can only hold so much and you only have so many times to hang ornaments with them, shouldn\u2019t you make it about what really matters?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat has stuck with me, and I hope it does through the entirety of our parenting. We\u2019ve really tried to focus our home with that perspective. So, this is a perfect way\u2014at Christmas, we do have some plain gold globes\u2014those are not the ones they like to hang, actually, because we\u2019ve made such a big deal about the names of Jesus. We\u2019ve tried to set these apart and hang them, one a night, and read the story that goes in the book that goes along with that name\u2014one each night.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd my kids\u2014like I said\u2014I kind of thought they were too young for this when we started doing it. They <em>weren\u2019t<\/em>\u2014they understood the significance of Christ. That is so exciting for me to see, because you can start when they\u2019re babies. It\u2019s what they are going to learn, growing up. I\u2019m so <em>thankful<\/em> that I have the resources of Ever Thine Home to do that in our home. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt gives us a way to do it, and it puts my husband and me on the same page\u2014we have a lot of different ideas, or I may be doing more of the parenting research than he\u2019s doing, and he might be hoping that he could throw something in\u2014this gives us a plan together so we\u2019re not arguing over who did more research, but it gives us a plan together\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014that parts out of the way. Our kids can be excited to listen to the story, to hang the ornaments, and it is something significant. They want to keep these ornaments out year-round because we make such a big deal about them\u2014they don\u2019t want to put them away! So we have them all over our house all the time. I hope they still have glitter on them for our Christmas tree in a couple of days, but\u2014[Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>It may all be worn off! [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracy: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>When Barbara designed the stars this year, you had the thought, \u201cHmm, rather than hiding elves, we could hide stars around the house.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracy: <\/strong>Yes; because\u2014again, like my friend told me when I was first pregnant: \u201cYou know, other things aren\u2019t bad \/ it\u2019s not that something else is bad; but \u2018What\u2019s the <em>best<\/em> way you can use this with your children?\u2019\u201d This gives us a way to still participate in this <em>fun<\/em> Advent activity\u2014they\u2019re looking forward to finding Baby Jesus under the tree on Christmas morning. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat we\u2019re doing this year is hiding the star in different places. We\u2019re doing it every day\u2014taking one of the stars. Each girl gets a different day to find it, because there would be terrible hair-pulling if they were both racing for the same star. [Laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThey have assigned days \/ they find the ornament on that day; and then we\u2019ll get to talk about the name. We\u2019ll get to talk about how that name can play into what we have going on that day\u2014how that real person of Jesus can be alive and available <em>today<\/em> for a five-year-old and a three-year-old. It\u2019s a perfect tool\u2014they\u2019re excited about it, and we\u2019re really excited to do it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>When our kids were little\u2014on Valentine\u2019s Day, I would hide goodies around the house for them; but I would give clues so that they would go and get the next clue here and the next clue there\u2014a treasure hunt, with clues along the way. Well, it took a little while to put that together; but I knew it wasn\u2019t just about what I was doing the next day. I knew I was building something that, decades from now, would still be a part of what mattered to them, growing up. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo yes; putting the clues together and hiding things probably took me 20 minutes the night before. That\u2019s 20 minutes I could have been\u2014I don\u2019t know, looking at Google; right? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracy: <\/strong>Right. [Laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Instead, I was saying, \u201cThis is important.\u201d To hide the stars or even to create a treasure map, where the kids can find it, you\u2019re really making an investment\u2014not just in what tomorrow\u2019s going to look like\u2014but what, 20 years from now, will still matter to them.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>And I think a part of what\u2019s so fun about that \/ what children love about it is they <em>love<\/em> anticipation. I think adults love anticipation. It\u2019s\u2014to me, the whole concept of anticipating is wound up in our faith. I mean, Jesus tells us He\u2019s coming back\u2014He tells us to be on the alert and to watch for Him coming. When we do these kinds of traditions with our kids, where we\u2019re teaching them the values of anticipation\u2014that it\u2019s a fun activity that we get to do together\u2014we\u2019re training them \/ we\u2019re introducing them to the concept of anticipating the future\u2014anticipating what God is going to have for us someday.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI <em>love<\/em> the idea, and I wish we had had it when we were raising our kids. Maybe you and I can do it with our grandkids this year\u2014I don\u2019t know\u2014but I just the love the idea, though, of hiding the star. We\u2019re, internally, calling it \u201cFollow the Star\u201d because that\u2019s what the wise men did\u2014they were anticipating finding Jesus, and that anticipation led them on a journey to follow the star.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Well, there are three stars you\u2019ve created that are wooden\u2014wooden stars that are gold\u2014and they have different names on them: \u201cJesus is Eternal Father,\u201d \u201c[Jesus is] the Bright Morning Star,\u201d and \u201c[Jesus is] the Alpha and Omega.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI just want to ask Tracy: \u201cAre you just hiding <em>one<\/em> of these or are you hiding all <em>three<\/em>?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracy: <\/strong>I\u2019m doing one each day. Something that I think is really neat\u2014I\u2019m not exactly sure how it\u2019s going to play out yet\u2014but we were talking about something we need to be doing is showing our kids how to <em>give<\/em> the good news as well. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe have to give it to them, and they have to give it. So my oldest, Audrey, has already asked when <em>she<\/em> gets to hide the star for Annie, our youngest. I can see a conversation with us happening\u2014like, \u201cYes, you want to be able to give this exciting good news away for someone else that you love too.\u201d I\u2019ll probably let each of them hide it a couple times, too, for the other one and be able to encourage them, \u201cYes; you\u2019re beginning to share who Jesus is with someone else, even in this small way in our home.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And what I\u2019d say is\u2014as you try this out with your kids or grandkids, write us and tell us what happened. I have a feeling that, as youngsters follow the star, there are going to be some great stories coming in.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>I agree. I think it\u2019s a fun idea, and it\u2019s worth trying. One of the things Mary Ann and I have done, for years, at the end of the year\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014we usually do it later in the month of December\u2014but we stop and ask: \u201cWhat organizations, what individuals, [and] what ministries has God used in our lives this past year?\u201d and \u201cHow can we respond \/ how can we say, \u2018Thank you,\u2019 to those organizations?\u201d We also have stopped and asked, \u201cAre there people that we could reach out to\u2014that we could encourage \/ that we could bless\u2014that we could share Christ with at Christmas?\u201d and \u201cAre there some unique ways to do that?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWith the resources you\u2019ve created, Barbara, it\u2019s possible for somebody to kind of kill two birds with one stone. They could give these ornaments as gifts to neighbors or friends and, at the same time, what they\u2019re doing is helping to support the work we do, here, at FamilyLife; because how much money have you made off of these ornaments that you\u2019ve created over the last six years?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Zero. To your point, Bob\u2014about sharing with other people\u2014there are five different sets. One of them is called \u201cHis Christmas Names,\u201d from Luke and Isaiah; and another set is \u201cHis Royal Names\u201d\u2014these are in the shape of crowns. You have another one\u2014\u201cHis Name Among the Nations,\u201d which is the name of Jesus in five different languages \/ the top-five languages of the world; and then \u201cHis Advent Names\u201d that you created last year, which also are names of Christ. You could get this entire collection of five different sets of names. Thanks for joining us on the Tuesday edition. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo you did not\u2014last Friday morning you didn\u2019t get up at 6 and go stand in line at Best Buy or someplace; did you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I did not; I did not.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Barbara, you didn\u2019t either?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>No; I did not, and I never have; nor do I ever really want to, honestly.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Tracy?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracy: <\/strong>You would have missed it at 6; you\u2019d have to be there at 11.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Yes; she\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracy: <\/strong>You have to miss your Thanksgiving dinner.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Did you do any of that?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracy: <\/strong>No.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Camp out\u2014you have to camp out.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracy: <\/strong>You have to camp out.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Well, they\u2019re moving it back every year. Stores are opening\u2014instead of opening at 5 or 6 a.m., they\u2019re opening at midnight or who knows when.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>I like to get a deal\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>\u2014but not that badly.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014I like to sleep. [Laughter] You put those two together, and I like to sleep more than I like to get a deal.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracy: <\/strong>Agreed.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>I go: \u201cYou know what? It\u2019s worth 50 bucks for me to sleep in a little extra this morning on the day after Thanksgiving.\u201d When you can do it all, like yesterday, online, just whenever you want to, that makes the whole thing a whole lot easier; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>I think a lot of people really like Cyber Monday shopping over Black Friday shopping.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong><br><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Now today is the day that we\u2019re supposed to kind of purge all of our shopping\u2014instead of thinking who we\u2019re going to buy gifts for, we think about giving; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes; and I just want to go to a big picture about giving\u2014to the assignment that is given to parents. One of the passages, Bob, that I have just been\u2014I don\u2019t know, it\u2019s just been bouncing around in my heart that we\u2019re not doing this, and it\u2019s Psalm 78\u2014it says, \u201cHe established a testimony in Jacob and appointed a law in Israel, which He commanded our fathers to teach to their children.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe\u2019re coming up on gift-giving time. One of the greatest gifts we can give our children is to teach them the truth about who God is\u2014that\u2019s what the command of the Scripture is\u2014Psalm 78. But also what it commands us to do is to give them the gift of sharing how Jesus Christ has impacted your life and how the gift of eternal life took up its residence in your soul. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAs a mom and a dad, you received the best gift of all. Here we are, on Giving Tuesday. I think this would be a great time\u2014tonight, at the dinner table\u2014for families to gather around and talk about the greatest gift that has ever been given, and how we have the opportunity to begin to give that gift to other people when we share how Jesus Christ has changed our lives.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think what parents are looking for today is\u2014I think parents are looking for ways to practically pass on their testimonies\u2014to practically pass on the truth about who God is, and His law, and how to live, and how He expects us to do life. Barbara and Tracy and the team, here, at FamilyLife, called Ever Thine Home<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, have come up with some practical ways, especially at the Christmas season, to be able to pass on and <em>give<\/em> your children the truth about God.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracy: <\/strong>I think you\u2019re right; I think that\u2019s what we want to do. So many times, we don\u2019t know how to do that; because we\u2019re doing so many practical things\u2014that are things that need our attention right now\u2014and we forget that\u2019s <em>really<\/em> what needs our attention, right now, today. That\u2019s what I love about what we\u2019re doing at Ever Thine Home\u2014we\u2019re giving parents \/ we\u2019re putting it right into their hands: \u201cThis is a way to do that, tonight, at the dinner table. You don\u2019t have to come up with anything\u2014you don\u2019t have to brainstorm \/ you don\u2019t even have to text each other during the day which verse you\u2019re going to read tonight\u2014you just read the stories that go with the ornaments.\u201d Making it practical: \u201cWe can do that. There\u2019s a big idea that you\u2019ve come up with, Barbara, over the last six years, that really does take the season of Christmas\u2014a time that we are celebrating the birth of Christ and who He is\u2014to help parents to be able to do that in a practical way.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Yes; for the last six years, we\u2019ve created a new set of ornaments every year. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tEach set focuses on a different topic related to Jesus and who He is in the names that we have put on the ornaments or are the ornaments themselves. After six years, we have, I guess, 30-something; is that right?\u2014maybe it\u2019s more than that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Oh, it\u2019s over 30.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>It\u2019s over 30\u2014anyway, we have a lot of names of Jesus on ornaments\u2014[Laughter]\u2014different sizes, and different shapes, and different colors of ornaments\u2014that can make your Christmas tree all about Jesus. We all know that Jesus is the reason for the season. We\u2019re trying to make it easy for moms and dads, and families, and grandparents, too, to make your Christmas holiday focused on Jesus <em>and<\/em> give you easy ways to teach your children who He is, why He was born in a manger in Bethlehem, why He was born to die\u2014the whole story. The whole gospel story is wrapped up in His names. We\u2019ve created these to make it easy for families to make the <em>main<\/em> thing the most important thing in your holiday experience.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>There\u2019s a verse in 2 Timothy that\u2014I remember when I read this\u2014and it kind of struck me as being odd. Second Timothy is the <em>last<\/em> letter the Apostle Paul wrote that we still have. If you look at the chronology of stuff in the New Testament, as far as we can tell, this would be the last letter he wrote. Timothy was his prot\u00e9g\u00e9. Timothy, at this point, was a pastor of a church in Ephesus. Paul was in Rome\u2014he was writing to his son in the faith. He is writing to him about pastoral responsibilities and what you have to do.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou get to 2 Timothy, Chapter 2, verse 8\u2014and here\u2019s what Paul writes: \u201cTimothy, remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, the offspring of David, as preached in my gospel, for which I am suffering, bound in chains as a criminal.\u201d I remember reading that and going, \u201cHere\u2019s Paul talking to a pastor; and he says, \u2018Remember Jesus.\u2019\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>And the reason he says it is because pastors forget, and so do parents, and so do all of us. Martin Luther used to say, \u201cThe reason I preach the gospel every Sunday is because, every week, I forget it.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Unless we are doing things to deliberately remind ourselves of the spiritual reality in which we\u2019re living, we can get so caught up in the temporal reality that we lose focus. That\u2019s the reason for having holiday decorations that just keep it front of mind, so you can\u2019t turn around without going, \u201cOh yes; Jesus,\u201d \u201cOh yes; Jesus,\u201d\u2014right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Practically speaking, Christmas has become all about tangible gifts that we give; and yet, there\u2019s an intangible part of every human being called a soul. Every person has a soul. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOur nation is in desperate need of hearing the reality about their soul\u2014that they need a Savior to take up residence in their lives, where they can be forgiven and know they have eternal life; but secondly, they can get to know God so they can live life as God intended it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>And really, we talk about making your Christmas meaningful. The only way to have meaning in your life is to know Jesus Christ; because that\u2019s the source of real meaning, real purpose, real identification with why we\u2019re here. He has the answers to everything. So to make your Christmas meaningful, it has to be about Him. If you don\u2019t know Him, or people in your family don\u2019t know Him, or your children don\u2019t know Him, Christmas is a perfect opportunity \/ a perfect time, because we\u2019re thinking about Jesus anyway\u2014we\u2019re singing songs about him.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe would love to help you with the content\u2014the books that come with our ornaments or other resources that FamilyLife offers. With the very first set of ornaments that came out five years ago, this friend of ours was reading the stories that come with the ornaments to his children. His young son\u2014after one of the stories was over\u2014he looked at his dad and said, \u201cI don\u2019t think I know Jesus as Lord,\u201d because the name that they were reading about is Christ the Lord. It was a perfect opportunity for this dad to talk to his son about what it means to know Christ: \u201cWhat does it mean to invite Jesus Christ into your life?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat\u2019s how you make Christmas meaningful\u2014is by talking about the One who came at Christmas\u2014the One who initiated this idea in the first place\u2014and get to know Him over the month of December. It\u2019s a great opportunity to make your family grow together and to grow personally in your soul, as you were talking about, Dennis, in our relationship with Him.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Tracy, you have a young family. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou also work, here, at FamilyLife. It\u2019s hard to get the mind-share to get a plan to know how to help your kids celebrate Jesus Christ at Christmas. Has this helped you? We have a daughter who\u2019s five and a daughter who\u2019s three. When we were first pregnant with our first daughter, a wise mentor said to me: \u201cYour kids only have so much mental capacity, and you only have so much time. It might feel <em>forever<\/em> right now\u2014you haven\u2019t even had your first child yet, she\u2019s still growing in your womb\u2014but you really only have a certain amount of time, and they can only hold so much in their little minds. Sure, you could hang just some gold globes on your tree, for example; you could listen to <em>The Wheels on the Bus<\/em>\u2014there\u2019s nothing <em>wrong<\/em> with that. But if they can only hold so much and you only have so many times to hang ornaments with them, shouldn\u2019t you make it about what really matters?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat has stuck with me, and I hope it does through the entirety of our parenting. We\u2019ve really tried to focus our home with that perspective. So, this is a perfect way\u2014at Christmas, we do have some plain gold globes\u2014those are not the ones they like to hang, actually, because we\u2019ve made such a big deal about the names of Jesus. We\u2019ve tried to set these apart and hang them, one a night, and read the story that goes in the book that goes along with that name\u2014one each night.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd my kids\u2014like I said\u2014I kind of thought they were too young for this when we started doing it. They <em>weren\u2019t<\/em>\u2014they understood the significance of Christ. That is so exciting for me to see, because you can start when they\u2019re babies. It\u2019s what they are going to learn, growing up. I\u2019m so <em>thankful<\/em> that I have the resources of Ever Thine Home to do that in our home. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt gives us a way to do it, and it puts my husband and me on the same page\u2014we have a lot of different ideas, or I may be doing more of the parenting research than he\u2019s doing, and he might be hoping that he could throw something in\u2014this gives us a plan together so we\u2019re not arguing over who did more research, but it gives us a plan together\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014that parts out of the way. Our kids can be excited to listen to the story, to hang the ornaments, and it is something significant. They want to keep these ornaments out year-round because we make such a big deal about them\u2014they don\u2019t want to put them away! So we have them all over our house all the time. I hope they still have glitter on them for our Christmas tree in a couple of days, but\u2014[Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>It may all be worn off! [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracy: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>When Barbara designed the stars this year, you had the thought, \u201cHmm, rather than hiding elves, we could hide stars around the house.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracy: <\/strong>Yes; because\u2014again, like my friend told me when I was first pregnant: \u201cYou know, other things aren\u2019t bad \/ it\u2019s not that something else is bad; but \u2018What\u2019s the <em>best<\/em> way you can use this with your children?\u2019\u201d This gives us a way to still participate in this <em>fun<\/em> Advent activity\u2014they\u2019re looking forward to finding Baby Jesus under the tree on Christmas morning. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat we\u2019re doing this year is hiding the star in different places. We\u2019re doing it every day\u2014taking one of the stars. Each girl gets a different day to find it, because there would be terrible hair-pulling if they were both racing for the same star. [Laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThey have assigned days \/ they find the ornament on that day; and then we\u2019ll get to talk about the name. We\u2019ll get to talk about how that name can play into what we have going on that day\u2014how that real person of Jesus can be alive and available <em>today<\/em> for a five-year-old and a three-year-old. It\u2019s a perfect tool\u2014they\u2019re excited about it, and we\u2019re really excited to do it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>When our kids were little\u2014on Valentine\u2019s Day, I would hide goodies around the house for them; but I would give clues so that they would go and get the next clue here and the next clue there\u2014a treasure hunt, with clues along the way. Well, it took a little while to put that together; but I knew it wasn\u2019t just about what I was doing the next day. I knew I was building something that, decades from now, would still be a part of what mattered to them, growing up. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo yes; putting the clues together and hiding things probably took me 20 minutes the night before. That\u2019s 20 minutes I could have been\u2014I don\u2019t know, looking at Google; right? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracy: <\/strong>Right. [Laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Instead, I was saying, \u201cThis is important.\u201d To hide the stars or even to create a treasure map, where the kids can find it, you\u2019re really making an investment\u2014not just in what tomorrow\u2019s going to look like\u2014but what, 20 years from now, will still matter to them.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>And I think a part of what\u2019s so fun about that \/ what children love about it is they <em>love<\/em> anticipation. I think adults love anticipation. It\u2019s\u2014to me, the whole concept of anticipating is wound up in our faith. I mean, Jesus tells us He\u2019s coming back\u2014He tells us to be on the alert and to watch for Him coming. When we do these kinds of traditions with our kids, where we\u2019re teaching them the values of anticipation\u2014that it\u2019s a fun activity that we get to do together\u2014we\u2019re training them \/ we\u2019re introducing them to the concept of anticipating the future\u2014anticipating what God is going to have for us someday.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI <em>love<\/em> the idea, and I wish we had had it when we were raising our kids. Maybe you and I can do it with our grandkids this year\u2014I don\u2019t know\u2014but I just the love the idea, though, of hiding the star. We\u2019re, internally, calling it \u201cFollow the Star\u201d because that\u2019s what the wise men did\u2014they were anticipating finding Jesus, and that anticipation led them on a journey to follow the star.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Well, there are three stars you\u2019ve created that are wooden\u2014wooden stars that are gold\u2014and they have different names on them: \u201cJesus is Eternal Father,\u201d \u201c[Jesus is] the Bright Morning Star,\u201d and \u201c[Jesus is] the Alpha and Omega.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI just want to ask Tracy: \u201cAre you just hiding <em>one<\/em> of these or are you hiding all <em>three<\/em>?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracy: <\/strong>I\u2019m doing one each day. Something that I think is really neat\u2014I\u2019m not exactly sure how it\u2019s going to play out yet\u2014but we were talking about something we need to be doing is showing our kids how to <em>give<\/em> the good news as well. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe have to give it to them, and they have to give it. So my oldest, Audrey, has already asked when <em>she<\/em> gets to hide the star for Annie, our youngest. I can see a conversation with us happening\u2014like, \u201cYes, you want to be able to give this exciting good news away for someone else that you love too.\u201d I\u2019ll probably let each of them hide it a couple times, too, for the other one and be able to encourage them, \u201cYes; you\u2019re beginning to share who Jesus is with someone else, even in this small way in our home.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And what I\u2019d say is\u2014as you try this out with your kids or grandkids, write us and tell us what happened. I have a feeling that, as youngsters follow the star, there are going to be some great stories coming in.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>I agree. I think it\u2019s a fun idea, and it\u2019s worth trying. One of the things Mary Ann and I have done, for years, at the end of the year\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014we usually do it later in the month of December\u2014but we stop and ask: \u201cWhat organizations, what individuals, [and] what ministries has God used in our lives this past year?\u201d and \u201cHow can we respond \/ how can we say, \u2018Thank you,\u2019 to those organizations?\u201d We also have stopped and asked, \u201cAre there people that we could reach out to\u2014that we could encourage \/ that we could bless\u2014that we could share Christ with at Christmas?\u201d and \u201cAre there some unique ways to do that?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWith the resources you\u2019ve created, Barbara, it\u2019s possible for somebody to kind of kill two birds with one stone. They could give these ornaments as gifts to neighbors or friends and, at the same time, what they\u2019re doing is helping to support the work we do, here, at FamilyLife; because how much money have you made off of these ornaments that you\u2019ve created over the last six years?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Zero. To your point, Bob\u2014about sharing with other people\u2014there are five different sets. One of them is called \u201cHis Christmas Names,\u201d from Luke and Isaiah; and another set is \u201cHis Royal Names\u201d\u2014these are in the shape of crowns. You have another one\u2014\u201cHis Name Among the Nations,\u201d which is the name of Jesus in five different languages \/ the top-five languages of the world; and then \u201cHis Advent Names\u201d that you created last year, which also are names of Christ. You could get this entire collection of five different sets of names.
