Well, we\u2019ll hear that story today. Stay with us.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>1:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd welcome to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>. Thanks for joining us. There are some couples I\u2019ve talked to over the years who got to a point in their relationship, where all hope was gone; and then, God stepped in and did something unexpected that just turned everything around. I sometimes wonder if God doesn\u2019t wait for us to give up all hope just so He can show: \u201cOkay; now, I\u2019m going to show you what I can do.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes. I love a great redemption story, and you\u2019re about to hear one. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019d like to welcome Chris and Stephanie Teague back to the broadcast. Stephanie\/Chris\u2014welcome back.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris and Stephanie:<\/strong> Thank you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> We introduced them earlier, Bob; and you remember this as: \u201c\u2026having been married in 2006 and, again, in 2011.\u201d [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You guys met when you were teenagers on a mission trip.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You fell for each other. You dated for a couple of years\u2014got married while you were in college. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThree-and-a-half years, everything seemed okay; except you were hiding some stuff, Chris; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Little bit; yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Part of what you were hiding was that your faith \/ your belief in God had eroded. You just wanted to do whatever <em>you<\/em> wanted to do and that led to the day that you came home and said: \u201cI don\u2019t believe in God. I want a divorce.\u201d A few months later, the divorce was granted; and you guys were no longer husband and wife.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And you had been a worship leader.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Yes. I was\u2014I mean, I was doing drugs, and hanging out, and doing everything under the sun Saturday night\u2014and waking up, going Sunday morning, leading worship, all while questioning everything \/ not believing.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014and keeping it hidden from your wife and everybody else.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Yes. It was a <em>weird<\/em> season.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Well, I want to hear the rest of the story of how you guys got back together in 2011; but you have since formed a music group called Out of the Dust\u2014it\u2019s a duo\u2014and just have released your LP, first ever, by the same title; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris and Stephanie:<\/strong> Self-titled.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> It\u2019s a collection of songs that have been informed by the story we\u2019ve been hearing this week. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLet\u2019s dive into where we were\u2014Stephanie, you had come to a place, where you just kind of figured: \u201cI got to get on with life, because this chapter is over.\u201d You didn\u2019t have any hope that the marriage would ever resurrect; did you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> I didn\u2019t; no. I got to the point where I didn\u2019t think that I was going to be in his future\u2014I didn\u2019t believe that our marriage was going to be reconciled, but I truly felt that his walk with the Lord would continue somehow.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You thought he\u2019d come back to faith.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> I did.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Were you not dating and not thinking about other guys?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> I didn\u2019t see it as wise to try to pursue a relationship or anything at that point. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tGod took me on my own unique journey that summer of really revealing to me some of the heart issues that I had and that I brought into the marriage, because nobody could see the junk that I had going on and that I contributed to some of the downfall of our marriage\u2014you know, my pride, and self-righteousness, and these issues that are\u2014its ugly, but it\u2019s internal\u2014so you don\u2019t necessarily see it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You were in the Refiner\u2019s fire.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> I was.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> In that, a lot of times, impurities come to the surface\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014because God is doing a <em>gracious<\/em> work by bringing those things to light; isn\u2019t He?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. You mentioned, earlier, the verses in James. I <em>clung<\/em> to James\u2014you know, that Chapter 1 about considering it joy when you\u2019re going through these trials; because in the end, you\u2019ll be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. I clung to that. I wrote it on the floor\u2014on the base floor of my house that I bought after the divorce, right outside of my bedroom door\u2014so really hung onto those verses.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThroughout that summer of 2010, it was an experience with the Lord that I had <em>never<\/em> had\u2014you know, even growing up in the church, going on mission trips, doing everything that are \u201cright things\u201d as a godly Christian woman\u2014but never fully relying on Him for everything; because, very self-sufficient, I didn\u2019t <em>need<\/em> Him in the ways that I should have. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> But now you needed Him; didn\u2019t you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> Oh, I couldn\u2019t move on\u2014I couldn\u2019t start a new day without Him in those first few months.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> So, had anyone stepped into your life to protect <em>you<\/em> from him?\u2014and to kind of put some boundaries around you so that, if he did want to come back or want to initiate something, you had some people looking out for you and, also, to whom he would be accountable to?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> I don\u2019t know that there was anything set up, specifically, for that; because I don\u2019t think anyone expected him to come back at all. But I\u2019m very close with my family \/ had a great community at church\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014that, really, rallied behind <em>me<\/em> and surrounded me that would have had something to say, and did, when he started coming back around.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Do you remember the day you decided you weren\u2019t going to put your wedding ring on?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> Oh! I don\u2019t know if I remember which day it was; but I purposely went and I bought a ring to replace my wedding ring, because I didn\u2019t feel right not having something on my finger. I bought a ring that said: \u201cI am my beloved\u2019s, and my beloved is mine.\u201d If I was going to take my wedding ring off, as it was inevitable, I wanted to replace it with something.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Did you have anybody call and say, \u201cWould you like to go out to dinner sometime?\u2014you and me?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> I had some friendships with some males, I guess, but nothing\u2014I didn\u2019t feel right about it. I didn\u2019t feel right about jumping into a relationship at that point.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> So, you didn\u2019t go out to eat.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> I guess you could say I did go\u2014okay; let\u2019s be real here\u2014I can say I did go on some dates but no\u2014no relationships.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You said you had quit following him on Facebook<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>. Were you still following her on Facebook?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> I mean, I would definitely do some scoping \/ some peeping every once in a while. I know, for sure, because I still had\u2014I wasn\u2019t <em>in<\/em> love with her at the time; but I still had love <em>for<\/em> her, just as a person. I definitely would go and\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Still curious\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> \u2014yes; stalk her there; yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014but you were also still in the season of life, where the pleasure of sin was enticing and where you were just kind of in the middle of it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Do you remember a turning point, where you kind of went: \u201cWait a sec! I thought I was going to find happiness here, and it\u2019s not working out the way I thought it was going to work out\u201d? Do you remember that?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Do I ever! So, the selfishness that led me out of the marriage\u2014I didn\u2019t leave that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> It followed you. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> I didn\u2019t sign that away on the divorce papers. It kept going\u2014some of those destructive patterns\u2014those destructive habits \/ those destructive behaviors in me went into all these new relationships that I was forming. I was dating people \/ I was getting into relationships, because: \u201cWhy not?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAs that was happening, there was a wave of destruction behind me. It really did come to a head. The weight of everything that I had done was <em>there<\/em>\u2014I think I tried to ignore it \/ I think I tried to rationalize and justify it away\u2014but there was a point where my selfishness and the things that I had done, really, finally showed their head. I <em>had<\/em> to confront who I was, and who I\u2019d been, and what I\u2019d done. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt all came out of just sort of a relationship souring\u2014that is where I found myself, sort of just completely flat on the ground, waking up in cold sweats, just anxious about the day throughout the day \/ all day\u2014just the weight was <em>crushing<\/em> of the <em>consequences<\/em> of these behaviors, and these relationships, and these things that I had done and chased after.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> There were two things that had led you out of your marriage.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> One was\u2014you didn\u2019t want to be married \/ the other was\u2014you didn\u2019t believe in God.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> That\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Both of those things were going to have to change if your marriage was going to get put back together.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Were you starting to doubt your doubts about God?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Yes. As I looked back, during that time, I remember very clearly, throughout my time away from Stephanie\u2014not before the fall-out \/ not before the anxiousness\u2014I remember thinking, \u201cI feel like God\u2019s kind of following me,\u201d\u2014I never felt alone. If anything, I think I was agnostic; because, through everything, God was an obstacle\u2014my marriage was an obstacle to <em>my<\/em> will \/ to what I wanted to do.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Here\u2019s what I think\u2014I think you were a Romans 1 person. You were actively suppressing the knowledge of the truth so that you could, in conscience, pursue the selfishness that you wanted.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Nail on the head.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I don\u2019t think you were an atheist \/ I don\u2019t think you were an agnostic\u2014I think you were talking yourself into things that you <em>knew<\/em> weren\u2019t really true so that you could go be the guy you wanted to be. God led you down the rabbit hole until you hit the bottom and you went \u201cOh!\u201d\u2014right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Yes. I think, in that time, God did show up. I mentioned, before, that the <em>beauty<\/em> of my story is that all of the arguments that I had conjured \/ all of the articles that I had read\u2014I had a <em>manifesto<\/em>\u2014that it was like probably 3,000 words that I said to people of \u201cWhy I didn\u2019t believe in God.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAll of that just <em>melted<\/em> away completely. It all melted away in light of the place that I found myself in at the end of that path\u2014of self, of my will, of what I wanted to do. It all just went away. God showed me just sort of the ugliness of my heart and the ugliness of who I\u2019d been. It was there that His grace truly found me for the first time, I think\u2014not that I wasn\u2019t a believer\u2014but I saw for the first time His <em>grace<\/em> and His arms of mercy.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> It\u2019s interesting\u2014when God extends that grace and allows us to have it our way\u2014and that\u2019s a pretty small package. If finding life is giving your life away\u2014as Philippians, Chapter 2, says: \u201cWith humility of mind, let each of you think of others more significant than yourself,\u201d\u2014that\u2019s where life is found\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014and so, you live the opposite way. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI mean, you had experienced what it was like to give your life away. Now, you weren\u2019t living that way. At what point did the pain become so great that you sought to contact Stephanie?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Bob, you mentioned, earlier, that sometimes God does let all hope go. It reminded me of the siege of Canaan in the Old Testament, when God told like \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t99 percent of the army to go away. He said: \u201cI will do this so that you boast in no one but Me.\u201d That\u2019s what we experienced\u2014I had nothing left. I had used up every resource\u2014I had burned through every friendship \/ I burned through my marriage\u2014all these wonderful gifts that God had given me. Here, I am\u2014flat on my face. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe moment\u2014I started reading the Bible again. I pulled out my dad\u2019s old AA notebook, where he had written a note to me. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe had passed away\u2014but these relics that I had of his\u2014I found those and started just pouring through them and felt God drawing me back to Himself. I\u2019m reading Scriptures and I hear Him telling me\u2014just my makeup, I\u2019m reluctant to say things like: \u201cGod told me\u201d\u2014but God told me to pursue Stephanie again. This is coming at a time when I said I <em>never<\/em> thought that would happen\u2014like we said: \u201cI may believe in God again,\u201d\u2014but this came out of my mouth\u2014\u201cI may believe in God again; but our lives won\u2019t be together, even if that happened.\u201d So, God\u2014I needed that sort of message from Him. I told Stephanie about it. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> How did you tell her?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> I actually contacted her mom first. It\u2019s kind of a funny detail. We had\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Contacted her mom? [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> I know.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> He did.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> I know. I have a great relationship\u2014or <em>had<\/em> before the fall-out\u2014with her parents. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI reached out to her mom and said, \u201cHey, would she be interested in just getting together and talking?\u201d So, we did. I went to her house. She had a new house in the <em>same<\/em> neighborhood that we lived before, where I lived while we were apart\u2014that\u2019s her stubbornness coming out. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> I liked the neighborhood. I didn\u2019t want to have to live somewhere else [Laughter] just because of it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> So, we walked <em>our<\/em> neighborhood for\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> No, no, no, no. [Laughter] I want to know when you made the call or went to the door [sound of knocking on door].\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I hope he didn\u2019t just send a text and say, \u201cHey, you want to hang out?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> No; no.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> Well, he had met\u2014he met with my parents \/ he didn\u2019t just ask my mom. He met with my parents, and talked to them, and confessed to them what had happened that summer.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Thanks, Babe\u2014I have a terrible memory. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> It is okay\u2014and I think seeking, you know, some forgiveness from them as well.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> From that meeting, I got a call from my mom\u2014she asked: \u201cHey, Chris is here. This went really well. I think it would be good for you to talk to him if you\u2019re up for it.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> There\u2019s a concept in the New Testament called bringing forth the fruits of repentance. I think meeting with her mom and dad to confess wrongdoing was definitely a statement of bringing forth the fruits of repentance.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> When he showed up at your door that night\u2014hadn\u2019t seen each other for months \/ hadn\u2019t talked\u2014what was going on in your <em>mind<\/em> and in your heart?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> He found me in an interesting place; because I had\u2014actually, I was going through divorce care. I had just gotten back from a mission trip to Nigeria that completely wrecked me and shifted my worldview. I was in a <em>great<\/em> place, emotionally and spiritually. I was looking forward to talking to him\u2014I still <em>deeply<\/em> cared about him \/ I cared about his wellbeing\u2014so, I <em>enjoyed<\/em> talking to him. It was so <em>strange<\/em>, but I really enjoyed hearing him telling me all the ways that God had shown up in his life that summer\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014ways that he couldn\u2019t deny. These things\u2014honestly, I think\u2014because they were things I wished I had heard before\u2014so to have this conversation with him and to see Jesus in him more than I ever had before, it was a really beautiful thing. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBy the end of the conversation, I think we had gotten to the driveway; because I didn\u2019t let him in the house\u2014this was my place \/ my sanctuary\u2014we got to my driveway. He got around to the whole: \u201cGod told me that we\u2019re supposed to be together.\u201d I thought: \u201cOkay; no\u2014I just don\u2019t\u2014I haven\u2019t been told that.\u201d [Laughter] I didn\u2019t\u2014that still was off my radar. You know, I had moved on and cared for him deeply, but I didn\u2019t think that was what our future was.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> She hadn\u2019t seen that message in the inbox yet. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> So, when he says, \u201cGod told me we are to be together,\u201d did you just say, \u201cWell, I guess we\u2019ll wait and see what God tells me\u201d\u2014or how did you respond to that?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> I know that it wasn\u2019t a <em>positive<\/em> response. I know because it wasn\u2019t what you wanted me to say. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt wasn\u2019t like an immediate, \u201cNo.\u201d I don\u2019t remember the exact words, but I knew that jumping into something was not\u2014that was not right. I didn\u2019t feel settled with it. I think where we left it was: \u201cWe\u2019re going to take a few months. I don\u2019t really want us to continue conversations. We need to figure this out on our own.\u201d Especially for me, I needed to know this change in him was a permanent change \/ it was a heart change\u2014it wasn\u2019t something he was doing because he wanted to fix everything, because he was miserable.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I want to affirm you for making sure. I think, too many times, repentance is kind of assumed at a surface level. True repentance means turning \/ turning 180 degrees\u2014and that means over time.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> Yes; I wasn\u2019t <em>skeptical<\/em>, but I also had been tricked before. We took a few months. We did counselling, separately \/ we ended up coming together, doing some together. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAfter those few months, we asked our counselor \/ we asked the people around us, in our church, kind of their outside view: \u201cYou know, does this look like something that we should pursue? Is this a healthy thing? Are we in a healthy place to move forward and begin the process of reconciliation?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe kind of got the go ahead from everybody. We know that our counselor encouraged us. God is the God of relationships and restoration and: \u201cIf at all possible, we\u2019re going to try it. We\u2019re going to go for it.\u201d We were very intentional. We went on our second \u201cfirst date\u201d in November of that year, with the intention of marriage, and were engaged by the following January and remarried in a very small ceremony on February 17, 2011.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> So, the restoration process, <em>formally<\/em>, was approved by a group from the church.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I really want to underscore the steps that were taken; because there are people listening to this broadcast who may be in situations, where a spark of hope maybe ignited or flicker as they listen to this story and your story of God\u2019s goodness and grace to you two. The key is: \u201cYou don\u2019t rush back into a marriage and make a second mistake.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> You got to do it the right way.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> And you get some other voices\u2014some wise counsel \/ some mature people, who aren\u2019t as emotionally entangled as the two of you are\u2014and you listen to them.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And people who will protect you from yourself.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You\u2019ve now put together a CD that\u2019s a basketful of songs that have been informed and inspired by this season of your life \/ this chapter of your life. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBy the way, we should also say you\u2019ve also added two Teagues to the tribe\u2014you have a two-year-old and a three-year-old; right? I love a great redemption story, and you\u2019re about to hear one. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019d like to welcome Chris and Stephanie Teague back to the broadcast. Stephanie\/Chris\u2014welcome back.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris and Stephanie:<\/strong> Thank you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> We introduced them earlier, Bob; and you remember this as: \u201c\u2026having been married in 2006 and, again, in 2011.\u201d [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You guys met when you were teenagers on a mission trip.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You fell for each other. You dated for a couple of years\u2014got married while you were in college. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThree-and-a-half years, everything seemed okay; except you were hiding some stuff, Chris; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Little bit; yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Part of what you were hiding was that your faith \/ your belief in God had eroded. You just wanted to do whatever <em>you<\/em> wanted to do and that led to the day that you came home and said: \u201cI don\u2019t believe in God. I want a divorce.\u201d A few months later, the divorce was granted; and you guys were no longer husband and wife.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And you had been a worship leader.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Yes. I was\u2014I mean, I was doing drugs, and hanging out, and doing everything under the sun Saturday night\u2014and waking up, going Sunday morning, leading worship, all while questioning everything \/ not believing.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014and keeping it hidden from your wife and everybody else.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Yes. It was a <em>weird<\/em> season.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Well, I want to hear the rest of the story of how you guys got back together in 2011; but you have since formed a music group called Out of the Dust\u2014it\u2019s a duo\u2014and just have released your LP, first ever, by the same title; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris and Stephanie:<\/strong> Self-titled.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> It\u2019s a collection of songs that have been informed by the story we\u2019ve been hearing this week. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLet\u2019s dive into where we were\u2014Stephanie, you had come to a place, where you just kind of figured: \u201cI got to get on with life, because this chapter is over.\u201d You didn\u2019t have any hope that the marriage would ever resurrect; did you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> I didn\u2019t; no. I got to the point where I didn\u2019t think that I was going to be in his future\u2014I didn\u2019t believe that our marriage was going to be reconciled, but I truly felt that his walk with the Lord would continue somehow.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You thought he\u2019d come back to faith.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> I did.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Were you not dating and not thinking about other guys?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> I didn\u2019t see it as wise to try to pursue a relationship or anything at that point. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tGod took me on my own unique journey that summer of really revealing to me some of the heart issues that I had and that I brought into the marriage, because nobody could see the junk that I had going on and that I contributed to some of the downfall of our marriage\u2014you know, my pride, and self-righteousness, and these issues that are\u2014its ugly, but it\u2019s internal\u2014so you don\u2019t necessarily see it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You were in the Refiner\u2019s fire.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> I was.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> In that, a lot of times, impurities come to the surface\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014because God is doing a <em>gracious<\/em> work by bringing those things to light; isn\u2019t He?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. You mentioned, earlier, the verses in James. I <em>clung<\/em> to James\u2014you know, that Chapter 1 about considering it joy when you\u2019re going through these trials; because in the end, you\u2019ll be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. I clung to that. I wrote it on the floor\u2014on the base floor of my house that I bought after the divorce, right outside of my bedroom door\u2014so really hung onto those verses.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThroughout that summer of 2010, it was an experience with the Lord that I had <em>never<\/em> had\u2014you know, even growing up in the church, going on mission trips, doing everything that are \u201cright things\u201d as a godly Christian woman\u2014but never fully relying on Him for everything; because, very self-sufficient, I didn\u2019t <em>need<\/em> Him in the ways that I should have. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> But now you needed Him; didn\u2019t you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> Oh, I couldn\u2019t move on\u2014I couldn\u2019t start a new day without Him in those first few months.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> So, had anyone stepped into your life to protect <em>you<\/em> from him?\u2014and to kind of put some boundaries around you so that, if he did want to come back or want to initiate something, you had some people looking out for you and, also, to whom he would be accountable to?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> I don\u2019t know that there was anything set up, specifically, for that; because I don\u2019t think anyone expected him to come back at all. But I\u2019m very close with my family \/ had a great community at church\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014that, really, rallied behind <em>me<\/em> and surrounded me that would have had something to say, and did, when he started coming back around.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Do you remember the day you decided you weren\u2019t going to put your wedding ring on?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> Oh! I don\u2019t know if I remember which day it was; but I purposely went and I bought a ring to replace my wedding ring, because I didn\u2019t feel right not having something on my finger. I bought a ring that said: \u201cI am my beloved\u2019s, and my beloved is mine.\u201d If I was going to take my wedding ring off, as it was inevitable, I wanted to replace it with something.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Did you have anybody call and say, \u201cWould you like to go out to dinner sometime?\u2014you and me?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> I had some friendships with some males, I guess, but nothing\u2014I didn\u2019t feel right about it. I didn\u2019t feel right about jumping into a relationship at that point.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> So, you didn\u2019t go out to eat.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> I guess you could say I did go\u2014okay; let\u2019s be real here\u2014I can say I did go on some dates but no\u2014no relationships.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You said you had quit following him on Facebook<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>. Were you still following her on Facebook?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> I mean, I would definitely do some scoping \/ some peeping every once in a while. I know, for sure, because I still had\u2014I wasn\u2019t <em>in<\/em> love with her at the time; but I still had love <em>for<\/em> her, just as a person. I definitely would go and\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Still curious\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> \u2014yes; stalk her there; yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014but you were also still in the season of life, where the pleasure of sin was enticing and where you were just kind of in the middle of it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Do you remember a turning point, where you kind of went: \u201cWait a sec! I thought I was going to find happiness here, and it\u2019s not working out the way I thought it was going to work out\u201d? Do you remember that?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Do I ever! So, the selfishness that led me out of the marriage\u2014I didn\u2019t leave that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> It followed you. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> I didn\u2019t sign that away on the divorce papers. It kept going\u2014some of those destructive patterns\u2014those destructive habits \/ those destructive behaviors in me went into all these new relationships that I was forming. I was dating people \/ I was getting into relationships, because: \u201cWhy not?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAs that was happening, there was a wave of destruction behind me. It really did come to a head. The weight of everything that I had done was <em>there<\/em>\u2014I think I tried to ignore it \/ I think I tried to rationalize and justify it away\u2014but there was a point where my selfishness and the things that I had done, really, finally showed their head. I <em>had<\/em> to confront who I was, and who I\u2019d been, and what I\u2019d done. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt all came out of just sort of a relationship souring\u2014that is where I found myself, sort of just completely flat on the ground, waking up in cold sweats, just anxious about the day throughout the day \/ all day\u2014just the weight was <em>crushing<\/em> of the <em>consequences<\/em> of these behaviors, and these relationships, and these things that I had done and chased after.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> There were two things that had led you out of your marriage.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> One was\u2014you didn\u2019t want to be married \/ the other was\u2014you didn\u2019t believe in God.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> That\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Both of those things were going to have to change if your marriage was going to get put back together.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Were you starting to doubt your doubts about God?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Yes. As I looked back, during that time, I remember very clearly, throughout my time away from Stephanie\u2014not before the fall-out \/ not before the anxiousness\u2014I remember thinking, \u201cI feel like God\u2019s kind of following me,\u201d\u2014I never felt alone. If anything, I think I was agnostic; because, through everything, God was an obstacle\u2014my marriage was an obstacle to <em>my<\/em> will \/ to what I wanted to do.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Here\u2019s what I think\u2014I think you were a Romans 1 person. You were actively suppressing the knowledge of the truth so that you could, in conscience, pursue the selfishness that you wanted.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Nail on the head.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I don\u2019t think you were an atheist \/ I don\u2019t think you were an agnostic\u2014I think you were talking yourself into things that you <em>knew<\/em> weren\u2019t really true so that you could go be the guy you wanted to be. God led you down the rabbit hole until you hit the bottom and you went \u201cOh!\u201d\u2014right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Yes. I think, in that time, God did show up. I mentioned, before, that the <em>beauty<\/em> of my story is that all of the arguments that I had conjured \/ all of the articles that I had read\u2014I had a <em>manifesto<\/em>\u2014that it was like probably 3,000 words that I said to people of \u201cWhy I didn\u2019t believe in God.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAll of that just <em>melted<\/em> away completely. It all melted away in light of the place that I found myself in at the end of that path\u2014of self, of my will, of what I wanted to do. It all just went away. God showed me just sort of the ugliness of my heart and the ugliness of who I\u2019d been. It was there that His grace truly found me for the first time, I think\u2014not that I wasn\u2019t a believer\u2014but I saw for the first time His <em>grace<\/em> and His arms of mercy.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> It\u2019s interesting\u2014when God extends that grace and allows us to have it our way\u2014and that\u2019s a pretty small package. If finding life is giving your life away\u2014as Philippians, Chapter 2, says: \u201cWith humility of mind, let each of you think of others more significant than yourself,\u201d\u2014that\u2019s where life is found\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014and so, you live the opposite way. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI mean, you had experienced what it was like to give your life away. Now, you weren\u2019t living that way. At what point did the pain become so great that you sought to contact Stephanie?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Bob, you mentioned, earlier, that sometimes God does let all hope go. It reminded me of the siege of Canaan in the Old Testament, when God told like \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t99 percent of the army to go away. He said: \u201cI will do this so that you boast in no one but Me.\u201d That\u2019s what we experienced\u2014I had nothing left. I had used up every resource\u2014I had burned through every friendship \/ I burned through my marriage\u2014all these wonderful gifts that God had given me. Here, I am\u2014flat on my face. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe moment\u2014I started reading the Bible again. I pulled out my dad\u2019s old AA notebook, where he had written a note to me. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe had passed away\u2014but these relics that I had of his\u2014I found those and started just pouring through them and felt God drawing me back to Himself. I\u2019m reading Scriptures and I hear Him telling me\u2014just my makeup, I\u2019m reluctant to say things like: \u201cGod told me\u201d\u2014but God told me to pursue Stephanie again. This is coming at a time when I said I <em>never<\/em> thought that would happen\u2014like we said: \u201cI may believe in God again,\u201d\u2014but this came out of my mouth\u2014\u201cI may believe in God again; but our lives won\u2019t be together, even if that happened.\u201d So, God\u2014I needed that sort of message from Him. I told Stephanie about it. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> How did you tell her?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> I actually contacted her mom first. It\u2019s kind of a funny detail. We had\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Contacted her mom? [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> I know.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> He did.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> I know. I have a great relationship\u2014or <em>had<\/em> before the fall-out\u2014with her parents. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI reached out to her mom and said, \u201cHey, would she be interested in just getting together and talking?\u201d So, we did. I went to her house. She had a new house in the <em>same<\/em> neighborhood that we lived before, where I lived while we were apart\u2014that\u2019s her stubbornness coming out. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> I liked the neighborhood. I didn\u2019t want to have to live somewhere else [Laughter] just because of it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> So, we walked <em>our<\/em> neighborhood for\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> No, no, no, no. [Laughter] I want to know when you made the call or went to the door [sound of knocking on door].\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I hope he didn\u2019t just send a text and say, \u201cHey, you want to hang out?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> No; no.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> Well, he had met\u2014he met with my parents \/ he didn\u2019t just ask my mom. He met with my parents, and talked to them, and confessed to them what had happened that summer.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Thanks, Babe\u2014I have a terrible memory. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> It is okay\u2014and I think seeking, you know, some forgiveness from them as well.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> From that meeting, I got a call from my mom\u2014she asked: \u201cHey, Chris is here. This went really well. I think it would be good for you to talk to him if you\u2019re up for it.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> There\u2019s a concept in the New Testament called bringing forth the fruits of repentance. I think meeting with her mom and dad to confess wrongdoing was definitely a statement of bringing forth the fruits of repentance.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> When he showed up at your door that night\u2014hadn\u2019t seen each other for months \/ hadn\u2019t talked\u2014what was going on in your <em>mind<\/em> and in your heart?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> He found me in an interesting place; because I had\u2014actually, I was going through divorce care. I had just gotten back from a mission trip to Nigeria that completely wrecked me and shifted my worldview. I was in a <em>great<\/em> place, emotionally and spiritually. I was looking forward to talking to him\u2014I still <em>deeply<\/em> cared about him \/ I cared about his wellbeing\u2014so, I <em>enjoyed<\/em> talking to him. It was so <em>strange<\/em>, but I really enjoyed hearing him telling me all the ways that God had shown up in his life that summer\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014ways that he couldn\u2019t deny. These things\u2014honestly, I think\u2014because they were things I wished I had heard before\u2014so to have this conversation with him and to see Jesus in him more than I ever had before, it was a really beautiful thing. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBy the end of the conversation, I think we had gotten to the driveway; because I didn\u2019t let him in the house\u2014this was my place \/ my sanctuary\u2014we got to my driveway. He got around to the whole: \u201cGod told me that we\u2019re supposed to be together.\u201d I thought: \u201cOkay; no\u2014I just don\u2019t\u2014I haven\u2019t been told that.\u201d [Laughter] I didn\u2019t\u2014that still was off my radar. You know, I had moved on and cared for him deeply, but I didn\u2019t think that was what our future was.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> She hadn\u2019t seen that message in the inbox yet. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> So, when he says, \u201cGod told me we are to be together,\u201d did you just say, \u201cWell, I guess we\u2019ll wait and see what God tells me\u201d\u2014or how did you respond to that?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> I know that it wasn\u2019t a <em>positive<\/em> response. I know because it wasn\u2019t what you wanted me to say. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt wasn\u2019t like an immediate, \u201cNo.\u201d I don\u2019t remember the exact words, but I knew that jumping into something was not\u2014that was not right. I didn\u2019t feel settled with it. I think where we left it was: \u201cWe\u2019re going to take a few months. I don\u2019t really want us to continue conversations. We need to figure this out on our own.\u201d Especially for me, I needed to know this change in him was a permanent change \/ it was a heart change\u2014it wasn\u2019t something he was doing because he wanted to fix everything, because he was miserable.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I want to affirm you for making sure. I think, too many times, repentance is kind of assumed at a surface level. True repentance means turning \/ turning 180 degrees\u2014and that means over time.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> Yes; I wasn\u2019t <em>skeptical<\/em>, but I also had been tricked before. We took a few months. We did counselling, separately \/ we ended up coming together, doing some together. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAfter those few months, we asked our counselor \/ we asked the people around us, in our church, kind of their outside view: \u201cYou know, does this look like something that we should pursue? Is this a healthy thing? Are we in a healthy place to move forward and begin the process of reconciliation?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe kind of got the go ahead from everybody. We know that our counselor encouraged us. God is the God of relationships and restoration and: \u201cIf at all possible, we\u2019re going to try it. We\u2019re going to go for it.\u201d We were very intentional. We went on our second \u201cfirst date\u201d in November of that year, with the intention of marriage, and were engaged by the following January and remarried in a very small ceremony on February 17, 2011.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> So, the restoration process, <em>formally<\/em>, was approved by a group from the church.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I really want to underscore the steps that were taken; because there are people listening to this broadcast who may be in situations, where a spark of hope maybe ignited or flicker as they listen to this story and your story of God\u2019s goodness and grace to you two. The key is: \u201cYou don\u2019t rush back into a marriage and make a second mistake.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephanie:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> You got to do it the right way.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> And you get some other voices\u2014some wise counsel \/ some mature people, who aren\u2019t as emotionally entangled as the two of you are\u2014and you listen to them.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And people who will protect you from yourself.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You\u2019ve now put together a CD that\u2019s a basketful of songs that have been informed and inspired by this season of your life \/ this chapter of your life. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBy the way, we should also say you\u2019ve also added two Teagues to the tribe\u2014you have a two-year-old and a three-year-old; right?
