What are the kids going to feel if their mommy\u2019s got that chain? What kind of environment does that create in a home that starts to spill out and affect the lives of others?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lauren:<\/strong> I\u2019m sure no one\u2019s going to feel \u201cenough.\u201d It\u2019s going to be a lot of criticism \/ there\u2019s not going to be a lot of grace there.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u201cI\u2019ve got to be perfect; and you do too.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lauren:<\/strong> Yes!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> That\u2019s what you\u2019re hearing in your mind and saying to your husband and your kids?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lauren:<\/strong> Yes; or I think mine was a little different in that: \u201cI\u2019ve got to be perfect. I\u2019ve got to be the perfect mom. I\u2019ve got to manage you <em>so<\/em> <em>much<\/em> so that you\u2019re behavior shows that I\u2019m perfect.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lauren:<\/strong> Maybe it\u2019s not really that I want perfection from <em>them<\/em>. I want to be <em>such<\/em> a perfect mom, or such a <em>perfect<\/em> wife, that whatever your life reflects back to me is who I am\u2014if that makes sense.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> You\u2019re talking about one of the most powerful tools God uses to convict us of our own selfishness\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lauren:<\/strong> Yes!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014brokenness and sinfulness\u2014children! [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lauren:<\/strong> Yes!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I mean, I\u2019ve made this statement multiple times\u2014Barbara and I thought God gave us six kids to raise <em>them<\/em>. He actually is finishing the process right now\u2014of us having tried to raise them and us seeing our own brokenness in our kids\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lauren:<\/strong> Absolutely.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014and going back to God and saying: \u201cWould you take <em>us<\/em> and use us for Your purposes? Help us to put our faith in the right place.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lauren:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Dennis:<\/strong> That\u2019s what your book is all about\u2014<em>Steadfast Love<\/em>\u2014putting your faith in the right place. It\u2019s got an anchor on the cover. If our listeners haven\u2019t read Psalm 107\u2014it begins with a powerful statement, and it ends with one. I\u2019ll read you the first verse and the last verse: \u201cOh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever!\u201d And then it concludes\u201443 verses later\u2014with this: \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cWhoever is wise, let him attend to these things; let them consider the steadfast love of the LORD.\u201d I think God\u2019s trying to get our attention. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lauren:<\/strong> I think so!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> The steadfast love of the LORD is where you find the stability and security.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Are you still doing battle, in your own soul, with a desire to want to be perfect?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lauren:<\/strong> If definitely raises its ugly head, every now and then; but it doesn\u2019t hold its power like it did. Although I still wrestle, I\u2019ve gotten a <em>lot<\/em> of victory over it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Where has that come from? What is it that you\u2019re telling yourself that\u2019s true?\u2014that is causing that perfection monster to get back in his cage?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lauren:<\/strong> Yes; that I\u2019m <em>so<\/em> dearly loved by a good God.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> If I had known you when you were carrying the chains, I wouldn\u2019t have been able to have spotted you carrying those chains; would I? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lauren:<\/strong> No.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> But inside\u2014what were you feeling? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>21:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWas it just a tension \/ a weight?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lauren:<\/strong> Yes; it was a heaviness. It was just almost like a black hole of: \u201cPlease tell me I\u2019m enough! Please tell me that I\u2019m worth something.\u201d <em>That\u2019s<\/em> what it felt like\u2014was just this black-hole heaviness, just <em>sucking<\/em> everything in.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> If that\u2019s the listener\u2014what he or she needs to do right now\u2014is find the steadfast love of the Lord and begin to experience it.
