Stay with us.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>1:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd welcome to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>. Thanks for joining us. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI sent out a tweet a while back and I got a response to it. I\u2019m thinking maybe our guests could help\u2014knowing how I should respond to the response. The tweet I sent out said\u2014it was from when Gary Thomas was here and we were talking about cherishing and what it means to cherish one another in marriage. I said, \u201cCherishing another person means I\u2019m going to look out for your interests as more important than my own.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe tweet I got back was from somebody who said, \u201cHow do you get there with a lying, betraying husband who has no idea what passion or intimacy is?\u201d I don\u2019t know how to answer that in 140 characters\u2014I don\u2019t think you can answer that in 140 characters\u2014but it\u2019s a very real issue for a lot of people thinking, \u201cHow do I fulfill my vows? How do I love and trust and cherish another person when they are a lying, betraying individual?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>That really is a good question\u2014and I\u2019m glad we have the guests that we have on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> So we\u2019re off the hook! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Chris\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> So, we\u2019ll let them answer it!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Chris and Cindy Beall join us again on the broadcast. Welcome back.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris and Cindy:<\/strong> Thank you!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Chris is a pastor at Life Church in Oklahoma City. Cindy is an author of a book called, <em>Rebuilding a Marriage Better Than New<\/em>\u2014and Cindy, you\u2019re the expert on this because this is what you\u2019ve done. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Cindy:<\/strong> One of the things that people often say is, \u201cWell, I\u2019m going to do this to them because they are doing this to me\u201d\u2014so through revenge they are getting back at someone. I believe that when we get back at someone, the first person that we\u2019re hurting is God. If Chris sins against me and then I then turn around and say, \u201cI\u2019m going to go cheat on him.\u201d I\u2019ve wounded the heart of God first\u2014I have broken covenant with Him first\u2014and then I might hurt my husband. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tFor me, I would say to that woman\u2014or to anyone\u2014you\u2019ve got to do the right thing regardless of someone else\u2019s actions. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat\u2019s it. Someone else\u2019s sinful life does not give me the right to sin against my God. That\u2019s where I lived. It\u2019s not easy. It\u2019s very challenging, and I can\u2019t say I did it 100% perfect all the time\u2014but I don\u2019t want to break my God\u2019s heart\u2014I don\u2019t want to do that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You\u2019ve had the opportunity, over that last half dozen years, to sit down with lots of couples who have gone through what you lived through. What you lived through was years of your husband looking at pornography\u2014ultimately that lead to affairs outside of marriage\u2014he fathered a son. You didn\u2019t know any of this. He finally comes clean. You have to decide\u2014\u201cAm I going to stay with him? Am I going to try to rebuild this marriage? Can I ever trust him again?\u201d\u2014all of these things facing you. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen you sit down with these couples today, they are at a place that you were at, where there is a road in front of them. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou can pick one path and that\u2019s a path that can feel like it will cause the pain to stop right away\u2014or you can pick the other path which feels like this is going to take me right into the pain. What kind of hope do you give them and how do you point them in a God-ward direction?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Cindy:<\/strong> The first thing, I think\u2014 just the fact that maybe it\u2019s the four of us\u2014maybe it\u2019s a couple and Chris and me. I think the fact just seeing us brings them some hope\u2014just the fact that we\u2019ve lived through it. So when I\u2019m faced with that question a lot of women will say, \u201cWhat should I do?\u201d Honestly, I cannot make that decision for them. I tell them, \u201cYou don\u2019t you have to decide the rest of your life today.\u201d I steal that little phrase from my friend Kevin. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut I also just encourage them, \u201cLook, whatever path you take is going to hurt. Where is God leading you? Let the peace of God be your guide.\u201d If you\u2019ve got a spouse that is willing to do whatever it takes\u2014you\u2019re willing to lay your life down and rebuild this. Consider this path. If you\u2019ve got a spouse that\u2019s still with someone else, or is acting like all this is your fault. Then you might have to play some hardball there, and show some tough love. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I\u2019m just thinking of the command in Genesis 2, that says, \u201cfor this cause a man shall leave his father and mother, shall cleave to one another, and the two shall become one.\u201d If you had not made a covenant between three\u2014a man, and a woman, and their God\u2014there\u2019s no way this marriage would be standing today. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Right!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> There wouldn\u2019t be a title of a book, <em>Rebuilding a Marriage Better<\/em>\u2014Better!\u2014 <em>Than New<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> The covenant of Almighty God gave you the standard to make this work. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Right. One thing that we experienced several years back\u2014I\u2019ll set the scenario, but it\u2019s super-relevant\u2014almost four years ago, our house burned down. We are going through this process of, \u201cOkay we\u2019ve lost everything, we have to rebuild. We\u2019ve got to replace everything.\u201d Our insurance company\u2014that was amazing, I will tell you\u2014they said, \u201cWe\u2019re going to pay to rebuild your house, but we don\u2019t think your foundation is damaged, so we\u2019re not going to pay to replace it.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIn our office when we meet with couples\u2014we see this every day\u2014there\u2019s some huge catastrophe in their marriage and they want a new house but they are unwilling to replace the old foundation. So how do we communicate? There are behaviors that we\u2019ve got to go past the foundation and create a new normal.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> What you\u2019re saying is, it\u2019s not a matter of slapping a new coat of paint\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014on a house that is rotting.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> But you\u2019ve got to start with the right foundation. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI just have to say here, this is why the <em>Weekend to Remember<\/em>\u00ae marriage getaway is so important for couples. I was driven to the airport by a guy whose son and a young lady are getting ready to get married. I told him and I said, \u201cGive your son and your future daughter-in-law the very best wedding gift they will ever receive because it will help them turn their marriage license into a marriage\u2014into a real marriage\u2014\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Right!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u201c\u2014into one that is built on the right foundation.\u201d It\u2019s very practical\u2014talking about how two imperfect people\u2014from the start\u2014can build a single structure\u2014together\u2014off the same set of blueprints. The guy nodded his head and said, \u201cYou know, I\u2019m going to talk to my wife about that tonight because we want their marriage to go the distance.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> There\u2019s information about the <em>Weekend to Remember<\/em> online at FamilyLifeToday.com if our listeners are interested. It\u2019s always good to take the marriage in for a little preventive maintenance; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> We had a couple recently attend who\u2019d been married 60 years. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> They felt it was time for an oil change and a tune-up. There you go!!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I think one of the things that you two have learned in the rebuilding process of your marriage is that as you\u2019ve invested in other peoples\u2019 marriages\u2014God has used that to strengthen the bond between the two of you; right? \u2014Talk about that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Cindy:<\/strong> It is <em>the<\/em> best part of our story that when we share with others\u2014when we help them with the same help that was given to us\u20142 Corinthians 1:3-4\u2014when we do that\u2014it\u2019s like we heal more.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLike with each couple we visit with\u2014with each woman I talk with on the phone, or have a FaceTime conversation or meet for coffee\u2014with each conversation, God is redeeming that marriage bit by bit. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat\u2019s funny is I love our marriage where it is. We\u2019re best friends! We\u2019re very healthy\u2014that\u2019s the word I use to describe our marriage\u2014very healthy. Not \u201cperfect\u201d, not \u201cgood\u201d, not \u201cgreat\u201d\u2014healthy and strong. What\u2019s fun is that it\u2019s getting better, because we\u2019re going to invest\u2014we are going to continue to steward our story and share and help others so it\u2019s just going to get better. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> I\u2019d say for\u2014say for any listener that\u2019s in the early stages of just trying to figure out\u2014you\u2019re walking through a betrayal, you don\u2019t know where to go\u2014the best thing you can do for other people, is not <em>tell<\/em> a story\u2014but <em>live<\/em> a story. It\u2019s not time for you to focus on helping other people. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tEvery day that you walk through a trigger that hits you or you\u2019re going to choose to forgive the other person, you\u2019re writing a sentence in a paragraph of a story that years from now will be worth telling. You don\u2019t need to be focused on telling your story but you need to be focused on writing that story. We do that by submitting to God in every moment of this process of healing. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I agree with you\u2014I do think though there are some couples who think, \u201cWell, we could never try to reach out and help others because our marriage isn\u2019t perfect.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> That leaves a lot of people never reaching out and helping anybody\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014because our marriages are never perfect. At what level of health\u2014where do you need to get to health-wise before you can start to say, \u201cI think maybe we can speak into somebody else\u2019s life?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Early on it wasn\u2019t us looking for people to help it was people coming to us. If we felt like we were at least one step ahead of them\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> There you go!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Here we go! Let\u2019s go! We can offer you\u2014here\u2019s what we\u2019re doing, we\u2019re on the road too\u2014we\u2019re not experts. In these latter days it\u2019s been much more where we\u2019re looking to pro-actively help people. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut for the most part of this 15 years, people would come to us, \u201cHey, I heard you\u2019re going through this\u201d\u2014if we really felt like that was a step ahead. That pretty much pertains to every person listening to this\u2014you are a step ahead of someone. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Cindy:<\/strong> Someone.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> That\u2019s right\u2014and somebody is a step ahead of you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Correct.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> If you can be in a cycle where you\u2019re learning from those who are a step ahead of you and you are helping those who are a step behind you. That\u2019s how the church is supposed to work\u2014that\u2019s what this is supposed to look like; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Absolutely! Pauls and Timothys! We each have somebody pouring into us and we each have people that we are pouring into\u2014absolutely!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> You had somebody who invested in you in the early months after the bombshell went off in your marriage. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Cindy:<\/strong> Yes, Jim and Beth Kuykendall\u2014we cannot speak more highly of them. There are not enough words in the dictionary to talk about how amazing they are. Without their input we would just have been a hot mess. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Jim and Beth\u2014for the first 30 days\u2014<em>every night<\/em>\u2014were sitting on our living room floor. There was just this invasive commitment to\u2014\u201cWe\u2019re going to do life together\u201d\u2014and, \u201cAs you guys face things\u2014just today\u2014we\u2019re going to process them and speak of life over you\u2014we\u2019re going to go to God\u2019s word, every single night.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat may not be realistic for everyone, but that had such a huge impact\u2014not just in the counsel that they gave, but just the relational presence\u2014knowing that they had walked through a similar story. We have a physical example of hope sitting right in front of us on our couch. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Chris\u2014I have to ask because it\u2019s been 15 years now since the story was told. Prior to that time you had been ensnared with pornography and where that led you\u2014the temptation can\u2019t have just gone completely away. Over the last 15 years to where you go, yes, you know, I\u2019ve felt that for a long time and I just never feel it anymore.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> I\u2019m all good! I\u2019m fixed! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> So what\u2019s the difference between the temptation today and what it used to be?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> How I would answer that is that I am free\u2014but I am not fixed. I\u2019m a human being, I\u2019m imperfect\u2014I have a sin nature just like everyone else. So I am free. I am not a slave to this sin and I haven\u2019t been for 15 years\u2014but I am tempted just like everyone else. I\u2018ll give you an example. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI have learned to see the temptations and respond a little bit more quickly to them. In fact, it wasn\u2019t all that long ago, that a young lady that came up to me\u2014a precious young lady\u2014attractive. \u201cPastor Chris, you\u2019ve changed my life. I think you could really help me sort through some things in my life.\u201d In that moment, I\u2019ve got a little bit of warning signs going off\u2014so I called Cindy. \u201cHey, this just happened to me.\u201d Then I brought my staff\u2014my entire team\u2014I said, \u201cHey, I want you to keep your eyes on me. If there is anything that you ever see that seems off\u2014intercept it.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt wasn\u2019t even like an inappropriate conversation on behalf of this girl\u2014it was completely innocent\u2014but it was like just maybe the beginning seed of a temptation that the moment I acknowledged it\u2014and had a conversation with Cindy and my team\u2014it was gone. So I do my best to kind of predict, \u201cWhere is the enemy going to come after me?\u201d I am just going to be overly honest when those temptations come. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tKeeping it in the dark is like a Petri dish for sin to grow. The moment we bring it into the light I just think that is where the power of healing happens. We do have a spiritual enemy! I believe that in those moments\u2014\u201cI can\u2019t, I don\u2019t have it in there, I\u2018m going to have to find a different avenue.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I believe it\u2019s in Genesis chapter 4 where it talks about sin\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Crouching.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Crouching at your door?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Crouching at your door. Chapter 4:7. What I just want every listener\u2014male and female\u2014to know\u2014it may not be pornography. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI don\u2019t know what it is\u2014what your Achilles heel is\u2014but I can promise you\u2014in fact, yesterday when I stepped out of my house, I thought, \u201cI\u2019m stepping out of a safe place.\u201d Not that there isn\u2019t sin able to get its way into our house\u2014there is\u2014but I\u2019m stepping into the world where there is a spiritual battle occurring. We don\u2019t see what\u2019s taking place. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tInterestingly a friend sent me a link\u2014and I don\u2019t know what my friend was really thinking but I clicked on it and it didn\u2019t take long to realize, \u201cThis is not a good place to be.\u201d I clicked off and went away. I still think I owe my friend an email back to say, \u201cWhy did you send that to me?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBy the way, there\u2019s a lot of stuff flipped around on the internet and posted in all kinds of places\u2014just be wise. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou may be throwing something to someone and it may be his or her Achilles heel\u2014spiritually speaking. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> The spirit and the flesh\u2014the Bible says\u2014are at war for what is going to be dominant in their lives. The Holy Spirit wants to be that which propels us and leads every part of our lives\u2014but if the things that we\u2019re feeding our mind and our time are the things of the flesh\u2014we\u2019re going to be dominated by the flesh. We just have to be very aware that the more we can starve our flesh and feed the things that the Spirit in us craves, those temptations will minimize. They don\u2019t go away\u2014but they will minimize.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Most of us are way too casual in our daily battle with sin.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Agreed.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> We walk around like there is not a war going on\u2014we walk around like we\u2019re in complete safety\u2014and we get ambushed when we do that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris: <\/strong>Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> As opposed to walking around with the alert system on\u2014your alert system that goes\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cOkay\u2014this is just a seed here\u2014but a seed can grow into something if I don\u2019t deal with it right now.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I want to encourage our listeners\u2014every listener who is a follower of Jesus Christ is an ambassador\u2014an ambassador you have a message and a mission. I want to read to you a little bit of your mission and message found in Isaiah 61. If you haven\u2019t read the first eight to ten verses of this passage of Scripture you ought to read it because I\u2019ve thought of this all week as we\u2019ve interviewed you two\u2014how you guys are really like something that\u2019s described in here\u2014I\u2019ll get to that in a moment. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHere\u2019s what it says about our message and our mission: \u201cThe Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, \u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tto proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; and to proclaim the year of the LORD\u2019s favor\u2014\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt goes on to talk about some other matters and then it says:\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cthat they may be called\u201d\u2014and this is what I thought of you two\u2014\u201coaks of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified. They shall build up the ancient ruins; they shall raise up the former devastations; they shall repair the ruined cities,\u201d\u2014listen to this last phrase\u2014\u201cthe devastations of many generations.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Wow!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> You two are oaks of righteousness\u2014you are providing shade for couples who\u2019ve gone through the valley and they\u2019re in need of someone saying, \u201cYou can do it!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong> \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Wow!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> The church is there. We will come along side you, we will pray for you, we will minister to you and future generations are at stake.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Tell our listeners about the dinner you had not long ago with somebody who had found Chris and Cindy\u2019s story online along with other stories that they\u2019ve heard on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>\u2014and how God had used that in his life.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> This is a person who been through dark days in his marriage. A ten! And he\u2019s not saying it\u2019s perfect, but he\u2019s just saying where sin abounds, grace and forgiveness much more. That is the gospel of Jesus Christ. Nobody listening to us here is beyond the reach of God\u2019s arm to welcome you in to the family and forgive your sin.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThere\u2019s nothing you have done that you can earn God\u2019s favor\u2014nor nothing you can do to cause Him to flee from you. You just need to receive Jesus Christ as your Lord, Master, and Savior and then get on with the process\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Amen.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014of becoming God\u2019s man\u2014God\u2019s woman, and if you\u2019re married\u2014God\u2019s couple. Then leave a godly legacy to future generations which you guys have done.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>21:00 <\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u00a0And I just have to tell you again. I\u2019m really proud of you for not quitting\u2014for still standing\u2014and for using your wounds to proclaim who Christ is. I said, \u201cCherishing another person means I\u2019m going to look out for your interests as more important than my own.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe tweet I got back was from somebody who said, \u201cHow do you get there with a lying, betraying husband who has no idea what passion or intimacy is?\u201d I don\u2019t know how to answer that in 140 characters\u2014I don\u2019t think you can answer that in 140 characters\u2014but it\u2019s a very real issue for a lot of people thinking, \u201cHow do I fulfill my vows? How do I love and trust and cherish another person when they are a lying, betraying individual?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>That really is a good question\u2014and I\u2019m glad we have the guests that we have on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> So we\u2019re off the hook! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Chris\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> So, we\u2019ll let them answer it!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Chris and Cindy Beall join us again on the broadcast. Welcome back.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris and Cindy:<\/strong> Thank you!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Chris is a pastor at Life Church in Oklahoma City. Cindy is an author of a book called, <em>Rebuilding a Marriage Better Than New<\/em>\u2014and Cindy, you\u2019re the expert on this because this is what you\u2019ve done. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Cindy:<\/strong> One of the things that people often say is, \u201cWell, I\u2019m going to do this to them because they are doing this to me\u201d\u2014so through revenge they are getting back at someone. I believe that when we get back at someone, the first person that we\u2019re hurting is God. If Chris sins against me and then I then turn around and say, \u201cI\u2019m going to go cheat on him.\u201d I\u2019ve wounded the heart of God first\u2014I have broken covenant with Him first\u2014and then I might hurt my husband. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tFor me, I would say to that woman\u2014or to anyone\u2014you\u2019ve got to do the right thing regardless of someone else\u2019s actions. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat\u2019s it. Someone else\u2019s sinful life does not give me the right to sin against my God. That\u2019s where I lived. It\u2019s not easy. It\u2019s very challenging, and I can\u2019t say I did it 100% perfect all the time\u2014but I don\u2019t want to break my God\u2019s heart\u2014I don\u2019t want to do that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You\u2019ve had the opportunity, over that last half dozen years, to sit down with lots of couples who have gone through what you lived through. What you lived through was years of your husband looking at pornography\u2014ultimately that lead to affairs outside of marriage\u2014he fathered a son. You didn\u2019t know any of this. He finally comes clean. You have to decide\u2014\u201cAm I going to stay with him? Am I going to try to rebuild this marriage? Can I ever trust him again?\u201d\u2014all of these things facing you. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen you sit down with these couples today, they are at a place that you were at, where there is a road in front of them. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou can pick one path and that\u2019s a path that can feel like it will cause the pain to stop right away\u2014or you can pick the other path which feels like this is going to take me right into the pain. What kind of hope do you give them and how do you point them in a God-ward direction?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Cindy:<\/strong> The first thing, I think\u2014 just the fact that maybe it\u2019s the four of us\u2014maybe it\u2019s a couple and Chris and me. I think the fact just seeing us brings them some hope\u2014just the fact that we\u2019ve lived through it. So when I\u2019m faced with that question a lot of women will say, \u201cWhat should I do?\u201d Honestly, I cannot make that decision for them. I tell them, \u201cYou don\u2019t you have to decide the rest of your life today.\u201d I steal that little phrase from my friend Kevin. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut I also just encourage them, \u201cLook, whatever path you take is going to hurt. Where is God leading you? Let the peace of God be your guide.\u201d If you\u2019ve got a spouse that is willing to do whatever it takes\u2014you\u2019re willing to lay your life down and rebuild this. Consider this path. If you\u2019ve got a spouse that\u2019s still with someone else, or is acting like all this is your fault. Then you might have to play some hardball there, and show some tough love. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I\u2019m just thinking of the command in Genesis 2, that says, \u201cfor this cause a man shall leave his father and mother, shall cleave to one another, and the two shall become one.\u201d If you had not made a covenant between three\u2014a man, and a woman, and their God\u2014there\u2019s no way this marriage would be standing today. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Right!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> There wouldn\u2019t be a title of a book, <em>Rebuilding a Marriage Better<\/em>\u2014Better!\u2014 <em>Than New<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> The covenant of Almighty God gave you the standard to make this work. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Right. One thing that we experienced several years back\u2014I\u2019ll set the scenario, but it\u2019s super-relevant\u2014almost four years ago, our house burned down. We are going through this process of, \u201cOkay we\u2019ve lost everything, we have to rebuild. We\u2019ve got to replace everything.\u201d Our insurance company\u2014that was amazing, I will tell you\u2014they said, \u201cWe\u2019re going to pay to rebuild your house, but we don\u2019t think your foundation is damaged, so we\u2019re not going to pay to replace it.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIn our office when we meet with couples\u2014we see this every day\u2014there\u2019s some huge catastrophe in their marriage and they want a new house but they are unwilling to replace the old foundation. So how do we communicate? There are behaviors that we\u2019ve got to go past the foundation and create a new normal.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> What you\u2019re saying is, it\u2019s not a matter of slapping a new coat of paint\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014on a house that is rotting.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> But you\u2019ve got to start with the right foundation. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI just have to say here, this is why the <em>Weekend to Remember<\/em>\u00ae marriage getaway is so important for couples. There you go!!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I think one of the things that you two have learned in the rebuilding process of your marriage is that as you\u2019ve invested in other peoples\u2019 marriages\u2014God has used that to strengthen the bond between the two of you; right? \u2014Talk about that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Cindy:<\/strong> It is <em>the<\/em> best part of our story that when we share with others\u2014when we help them with the same help that was given to us\u20142 Corinthians 1:3-4\u2014when we do that\u2014it\u2019s like we heal more.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLike with each couple we visit with\u2014with each woman I talk with on the phone, or have a FaceTime conversation or meet for coffee\u2014with each conversation, God is redeeming that marriage bit by bit. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat\u2019s funny is I love our marriage where it is. We\u2019re best friends! We\u2019re very healthy\u2014that\u2019s the word I use to describe our marriage\u2014very healthy. Not \u201cperfect\u201d, not \u201cgood\u201d, not \u201cgreat\u201d\u2014healthy and strong. What\u2019s fun is that it\u2019s getting better, because we\u2019re going to invest\u2014we are going to continue to steward our story and share and help others so it\u2019s just going to get better. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> I\u2019d say for\u2014say for any listener that\u2019s in the early stages of just trying to figure out\u2014you\u2019re walking through a betrayal, you don\u2019t know where to go\u2014the best thing you can do for other people, is not <em>tell<\/em> a story\u2014but <em>live<\/em> a story. It\u2019s not time for you to focus on helping other people. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tEvery day that you walk through a trigger that hits you or you\u2019re going to choose to forgive the other person, you\u2019re writing a sentence in a paragraph of a story that years from now will be worth telling. You don\u2019t need to be focused on telling your story but you need to be focused on writing that story. We do that by submitting to God in every moment of this process of healing. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I agree with you\u2014I do think though there are some couples who think, \u201cWell, we could never try to reach out and help others because our marriage isn\u2019t perfect.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> That leaves a lot of people never reaching out and helping anybody\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014because our marriages are never perfect. At what level of health\u2014where do you need to get to health-wise before you can start to say, \u201cI think maybe we can speak into somebody else\u2019s life?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Early on it wasn\u2019t us looking for people to help it was people coming to us. If we felt like we were at least one step ahead of them\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> There you go!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Here we go! Let\u2019s go! We can offer you\u2014here\u2019s what we\u2019re doing, we\u2019re on the road too\u2014we\u2019re not experts. In these latter days it\u2019s been much more where we\u2019re looking to pro-actively help people. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut for the most part of this 15 years, people would come to us, \u201cHey, I heard you\u2019re going through this\u201d\u2014if we really felt like that was a step ahead. That pretty much pertains to every person listening to this\u2014you are a step ahead of someone. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Cindy:<\/strong> Someone.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> That\u2019s right\u2014and somebody is a step ahead of you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Correct.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> If you can be in a cycle where you\u2019re learning from those who are a step ahead of you and you are helping those who are a step behind you. That\u2019s how the church is supposed to work\u2014that\u2019s what this is supposed to look like; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Absolutely! Pauls and Timothys! We each have somebody pouring into us and we each have people that we are pouring into\u2014absolutely!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> You had somebody who invested in you in the early months after the bombshell went off in your marriage. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Cindy:<\/strong> Yes, Jim and Beth Kuykendall\u2014we cannot speak more highly of them. There are not enough words in the dictionary to talk about how amazing they are. Without their input we would just have been a hot mess. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Jim and Beth\u2014for the first 30 days\u2014<em>every night<\/em>\u2014were sitting on our living room floor. There was just this invasive commitment to\u2014\u201cWe\u2019re going to do life together\u201d\u2014and, \u201cAs you guys face things\u2014just today\u2014we\u2019re going to process them and speak of life over you\u2014we\u2019re going to go to God\u2019s word, every single night.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat may not be realistic for everyone, but that had such a huge impact\u2014not just in the counsel that they gave, but just the relational presence\u2014knowing that they had walked through a similar story. We have a physical example of hope sitting right in front of us on our couch. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Chris\u2014I have to ask because it\u2019s been 15 years now since the story was told. Prior to that time you had been ensnared with pornography and where that led you\u2014the temptation can\u2019t have just gone completely away. Over the last 15 years to where you go, yes, you know, I\u2019ve felt that for a long time and I just never feel it anymore.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> I\u2019m all good! I\u2019m fixed! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> So what\u2019s the difference between the temptation today and what it used to be?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> How I would answer that is that I am free\u2014but I am not fixed. I\u2019m a human being, I\u2019m imperfect\u2014I have a sin nature just like everyone else. So I am free. I am not a slave to this sin and I haven\u2019t been for 15 years\u2014but I am tempted just like everyone else. I\u2018ll give you an example. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI have learned to see the temptations and respond a little bit more quickly to them. In fact, it wasn\u2019t all that long ago, that a young lady that came up to me\u2014a precious young lady\u2014attractive. \u201cPastor Chris, you\u2019ve changed my life. I think you could really help me sort through some things in my life.\u201d In that moment, I\u2019ve got a little bit of warning signs going off\u2014so I called Cindy. \u201cHey, this just happened to me.\u201d Then I brought my staff\u2014my entire team\u2014I said, \u201cHey, I want you to keep your eyes on me. If there is anything that you ever see that seems off\u2014intercept it.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt wasn\u2019t even like an inappropriate conversation on behalf of this girl\u2014it was completely innocent\u2014but it was like just maybe the beginning seed of a temptation that the moment I acknowledged it\u2014and had a conversation with Cindy and my team\u2014it was gone. So I do my best to kind of predict, \u201cWhere is the enemy going to come after me?\u201d I am just going to be overly honest when those temptations come. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tKeeping it in the dark is like a Petri dish for sin to grow. The moment we bring it into the light I just think that is where the power of healing happens. We do have a spiritual enemy! I believe that in those moments\u2014\u201cI can\u2019t, I don\u2019t have it in there, I\u2018m going to have to find a different avenue.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I believe it\u2019s in Genesis chapter 4 where it talks about sin\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Crouching.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Crouching at your door?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Crouching at your door. Chapter 4:7. What I just want every listener\u2014male and female\u2014to know\u2014it may not be pornography. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI don\u2019t know what it is\u2014what your Achilles heel is\u2014but I can promise you\u2014in fact, yesterday when I stepped out of my house, I thought, \u201cI\u2019m stepping out of a safe place.\u201d Not that there isn\u2019t sin able to get its way into our house\u2014there is\u2014but I\u2019m stepping into the world where there is a spiritual battle occurring. We don\u2019t see what\u2019s taking place. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tInterestingly a friend sent me a link\u2014and I don\u2019t know what my friend was really thinking but I clicked on it and it didn\u2019t take long to realize, \u201cThis is not a good place to be.\u201d I clicked off and went away. I still think I owe my friend an email back to say, \u201cWhy did you send that to me?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBy the way, there\u2019s a lot of stuff flipped around on the internet and posted in all kinds of places\u2014just be wise. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou may be throwing something to someone and it may be his or her Achilles heel\u2014spiritually speaking. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> The spirit and the flesh\u2014the Bible says\u2014are at war for what is going to be dominant in their lives. The Holy Spirit wants to be that which propels us and leads every part of our lives\u2014but if the things that we\u2019re feeding our mind and our time are the things of the flesh\u2014we\u2019re going to be dominated by the flesh. We just have to be very aware that the more we can starve our flesh and feed the things that the Spirit in us craves, those temptations will minimize. They don\u2019t go away\u2014but they will minimize.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Most of us are way too casual in our daily battle with sin.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Agreed.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> We walk around like there is not a war going on\u2014we walk around like we\u2019re in complete safety\u2014and we get ambushed when we do that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris: <\/strong>Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> As opposed to walking around with the alert system on\u2014your alert system that goes\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cOkay\u2014this is just a seed here\u2014but a seed can grow into something if I don\u2019t deal with it right now.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I want to encourage our listeners\u2014every listener who is a follower of Jesus Christ is an ambassador\u2014an ambassador you have a message and a mission. I want to read to you a little bit of your mission and message found in Isaiah 61. If you haven\u2019t read the first eight to ten verses of this passage of Scripture you ought to read it because I\u2019ve thought of this all week as we\u2019ve interviewed you two\u2014how you guys are really like something that\u2019s described in here\u2014I\u2019ll get to that in a moment. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHere\u2019s what it says about our message and our mission: \u201cThe Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, \u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tto proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; and to proclaim the year of the LORD\u2019s favor\u2014\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt goes on to talk about some other matters and then it says:\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cthat they may be called\u201d\u2014and this is what I thought of you two\u2014\u201coaks of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified. They shall build up the ancient ruins; they shall raise up the former devastations; they shall repair the ruined cities,\u201d\u2014listen to this last phrase\u2014\u201cthe devastations of many generations.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Wow!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> You two are oaks of righteousness\u2014you are providing shade for couples who\u2019ve gone through the valley and they\u2019re in need of someone saying, \u201cYou can do it!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong> \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Wow!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> The church is there. We will come along side you, we will pray for you, we will minister to you and future generations are at stake.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Tell our listeners about the dinner you had not long ago with somebody who had found Chris and Cindy\u2019s story online along with other stories that they\u2019ve heard on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>\u2014and how God had used that in his life.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> This is a person who been through dark days in his marriage. He became a super sleuth on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>. He went in search of every story of redemption and reconciliation that he could find and he found yours. A ten! And he\u2019s not saying it\u2019s perfect, but he\u2019s just saying where sin abounds, grace and forgiveness much more. That is the gospel of Jesus Christ. Nobody listening to us here is beyond the reach of God\u2019s arm to welcome you in to the family and forgive your sin.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThere\u2019s nothing you have done that you can earn God\u2019s favor\u2014nor nothing you can do to cause Him to flee from you. You just need to receive Jesus Christ as your Lord, Master, and Savior and then get on with the process\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chris:<\/strong> Amen.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014of becoming God\u2019s man\u2014God\u2019s woman, and if you\u2019re married\u2014God\u2019s couple. Then leave a godly legacy to future generations which you guys have done.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>21:00 <\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u00a0And I just have to tell you again. I\u2019m really proud of you for not quitting\u2014for still standing\u2014and for using your wounds to proclaim who Christ is.
