The TV comes on, and people start doing homework\u2014just life goes back to normal. My vision and my desire\u2014and what we\u2019re going to try to do this year\u2014is extend it for the entire day. We probably won\u2019t do our Easter meal at lunch. We\u2019ll probably do it late afternoon or at dinner so that we can light candles, and string lights up, and really make it festive. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>This is <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> for Thursday, March 30<sup>th<\/sup>. What will Easter look like at your home this year, and what will the weeks leading up to Easter look like? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>1:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe\u2019ll spend time talking about that today. Stay with us. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd welcome to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>. Thanks for joining us on the Thursday edition. I just want to make sure\u2014we\u2019ve been talking all this week about how we can heighten the significance of Passion Week, and of Good Friday, and Easter Sunday. I\u2019m all for that, but this doesn\u2019t mean the end of baskets; does it?\u00a0 I mean, this\u2014you\u2019ll still get a basket\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014and chocolate Easter bunnies. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014and some jelly beans. For Mary Ann\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>You like marshmallow Peeps<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>I do like marshmallow Peeps. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>We have\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>I remembered that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014we have the broadcast on Bob\u2019s\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Yes; we do. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014love for marshmallow Peeps. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>I remember that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>But for Mary Ann, it\u2019s the Reese\u2019s<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> eggs. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Eggs; yes.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Those are\u2014it\u2019s not\u2014the cups\u2014somehow, it\u2019s different\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>It\u2019s different\u2014it is different. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014when you eat the Reese\u2019s egg than when you eat the regular Reese\u2019s peanut butter cup. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You know, you completely destroyed the whole\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014the whole tone and tenor?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014the whole tone of this. We\u2019re trying to think about the Easter celebration, starting on Friday all the way through Sunday, of being a celebration set apart like none other. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>And we\u2019re doing this because it\u2019s a passion of our guest, who is back with us, again, today\u2014your wife Barbara. Welcome. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Thank you, Bob. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>This is something you are passionate about. Can we just sneak an Easter egg?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>You can have your chocolate. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Okay. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>I have to say\u2014when you talked about Easter baskets, though, that was one of the fun responses that I got last year\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>\u2014to the survey we\u2019ve been talking about\u2014the survey that we\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Explain the survey; yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Well, last year, after Easter, I did a survey of a bunch of women\u2014primarily women, but I had some responses from men, too, which I was thrilled with\u2014about \u201cWhat do you do to celebrate Easter?\u00a0 How do you make it meaningful?\u00a0 What are some of the things that you do that I could share with others?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe got some great ideas; but one of the responses came from my daughter-in-law, Stephanie. Stephanie wrote back and she said, \u201cIt never occurred to me that I don\u2019t have to do Easter baskets.\u201d\u00a0 I said, \u201cReally?\u201d\u00a0 So, I called her; and we talked about it. She said: \u201cI just thought that was a part of what you had to do. Everybody does Easter baskets.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Requirement as a parent; yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>\u201cI thought you\u2026\u201d\u2014yes. And she said, \u201cI just realized this year, I don\u2019t have to do Easter baskets. I don\u2019t have to buy little presents for my kids and make sure they all have the same amount of stuff.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>The police will not lock you up if you don\u2019t do\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>She said, \u201cI\u2019m not doing Easter baskets anymore.\u201d\u00a0 But you can still do chocolate \/ you can still do candy. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>I would hope so. I don\u2019t\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Put it in little bowls or something. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Did you talk to her to find out how it went after Easter with the kids when she said\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Well, that was after Easter last year she came to that conclusion. We haven\u2019t had an Easter without baskets yet. So, we\u2019ll see. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>We\u2019re going to have to see how the kids respond: \u201cWhere\u2019s\u2026? There\u2019s no\u2026Mom!!!\u00a0 No Easter baskets!\u201d\u00a0 Did you do egg hunts in your yard around Easter?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>We used to do big egg hunts in our yard around Easter\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014invited all kinds of people. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You were there, Bob. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>That\u2019s true. You did invite many of the staff to come over for your big Easter\u2014\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>We had a bunch of plastic eggs out there. Then, for a number of years, I would find them out in the woods. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>The kids didn\u2019t see them. [Laughter]\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes; not months\u2014years. I mean, we hadn\u2019t had that in years; but we had one section that was kind of partitioned off with string that was only for those parents who had children in attendance who wanted to go home with something live\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Okay\u2014\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014like a bunny. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>\u2014or a chick or a kitten. I think we may have had a kitten one year. Anyway, so most parents wouldn\u2019t let their kids hunt in that area. [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u201cNo; not going near that thing.\u201d\u00a0 So, the Raineys are stuck with chicks and bunnies when it\u2019s all over. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>So, let\u2019s go to Easter Sunday\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Yes; let\u2019s do. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014the day itself. When I think about Easter Sunday, I think about the baskets, I think about going to church, I think about new shoes and new clothes, and I think about ham. I mean, we always had ham on Easter; and we would have\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>We did too. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014a nice meal on Easter. Although, it was always a little trickier for Mom to make Easter dinner; because you\u2019ve got to go to church first and then Easter dinner right after that\u2014it was kind of a headache for her. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Yes; I always thought it was a challenge too. There just wasn\u2019t enough time between getting home and the time we needed to sit down and eat. So, I\u2019m suggesting you don\u2019t have to have your big, fancy meal after church. You can wait and do it later in the day, like we do at Thanksgiving\u2014mid-afternoon \/early evening\u2014or even have your big, fancy Easter meal be an evening meal. It doesn\u2019t have to be right after church. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd in some ways, I think that\u2019s better because that creates a bit of a buffer between getting home from church, and preparing for the big meal, and having the big meal. Jesus did <em>so much<\/em> around meals when He was on earth. He ate with Zacchaeus. He went to Matthew\u2019s house, the tax collector. The Last Supper, of course, was really important in the life of Jesus. A lot of what He did was around food, and around celebrations, and around people gathering together. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I think a meal\u2014a special meal, where you eat different kinds of food and you create an amazing table\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014we call it a tablescape. Do you guys know that word?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>A tablescape?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>A tablescape. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You hadn\u2019t shared that with me. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>I thought that might be new to both of you. [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Why have you\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>It\u2019s kind of fun! [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014why have you not talked to me about this, dear?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Well, a tablescape is really just creating\u2014I guess, it comes from the word, landscape\u2014but it\u2019s just creating a beautiful centerpiece or some kind of something on the table. It doesn\u2019t have to be elaborate \/ it doesn\u2019t have to be expensive. One of the things I\u2019m going to do is\u2014I\u2019m going to buy a whole bunch of white pillar candles\u2014and you can buy them inexpensively, online, for not much money. The light of the world was gone. So, how fun, on Easter morning, to have candles on your table that you light and proclaim that Jesus, the light of the world, is in fact alive again:\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cHe is risen!\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You want there to be more than just a meal on Easter, though?\u00a0 You want it to be a full-blown party. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>I think it should be a party. I mean, stop and think about what the disciples felt. Do you think they heard that Jesus was alive and they went: \u201cOh, that\u2019s great!\u00a0 I need to run to the grocery store,\u201d or \u201cJesus is alive. Oh, gosh; that\u2019s such great news, but we\u2019ve got ball practice\u201d?\u00a0 I just don\u2019t think they did. I think they were so stunned, so blown-away, so overwhelmed, so amazed. I think our celebration on Easter Sunday needs to replicate that in some way. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I want to have music playing the whole time. If we do it outside\u2014and I\u2019m not totally sure, because of weather, yet how we are going to do this\u2014but we may do it outside. If we do it, I\u2019m going to stream lights all over the place. We\u2019re still going to have candles on the table. We\u2019re going to have music. I would love for us to have dancing; because I think the disciples were so excited when they found out that Jesus was alive that they didn\u2019t just say, \u201cOh, that\u2019s great.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think they were probably jumping up and down. I mean, I think there needs to be some exuberance \/ some expression that is pure joy. I think we need to do more of that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Dennis, when Barbara says, \u201cI\u2019m going to string lights,\u201d does she mean she will be stringing lights or\u2014[Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You and I both know\u2014[Laughter]\u2014we both know what that means. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI just want to comment on what she\u2019s talking about here. You know, we celebrate the Super Bowl, the World Series, the NBA Championships\u2014and I\u2019ve seen you, Bob\u2014I\u2019ve seen you come out of your seat,\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014cheering, yelling, screaming. It\u2019s interesting\u2014a lot of the people that go to those big games and big championships\u2014or against a rival team\u2014how expressive they are on a Saturday afternoon. You take those same people, and you plop them down in church on Sunday morning\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014especially, on Resurrection Sunday morning\u2014and they are subdued \/ they are quiet. They wouldn\u2019t <em>think<\/em> of us cheering\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Never. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014that Jesus defeated <em>death<\/em>: \u201cThere\u2019s hope! There is life eternal!\u00a0 I\u2019m forgiven! You know, like some of the people He healed couldn\u2019t stop praising God. I think we\u2019re really in need of recalibrating which is most exciting\u2014a sporting event or something that affects eternity\u2014seriously!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Yes; something that has changed our lives forever. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You know, it was more than two decades ago that somebody first shared with us the idea of using plastic eggs to tell the story of the Passion Week. And in the past 20 years, we\u2019ve had like one and a half million dozen eggs that have\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>That\u2019s exactly right\u20141.5 million dozen eggs have now gone out in the English language. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe\u2019ve got them translated into Mandarin,\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>\u2014and Spanish. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014Russian. And we figure, conservatively, that 20 million \/ maybe, 30 million children have heard the story of Jesus and have found out about the egg that is empty, which represents the empty tomb on Resurrection Sunday. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>So, something like \u201cResurrection Eggs<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u201d is a way to include younger kids in your Easter Day celebration. You can do it as an Easter egg hunt, but you could also just have them pull an egg out of a basket at the dinner table; can\u2019t you?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>I know other families\u2014and that\u2019s one of the stories that came back to us. As their kids were older, they just put a basket of the \u201cResurrection Eggs\u201d in the middle of the table \/ passed the basket around. Everybody took one; and then, they took turns opening the egg, seeing what was in there, and then telling what they remembered about that symbol from the Easter story. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think the \u201cResurrection Eggs\u201d are a great way to engage kids \/ involve kids\u2014you can do the egg hunt in the afternoon before you have the dinner in the afternoon or evening or pass them around the table and let the adults all talk about them. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You brought in here today a set of placemats. Are these new?\u00a0 I don\u2019t think I\u2019ve seen these before. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>You haven\u2019t; have you?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>No. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>No; these are brand-new this year. I\u2019m really excited because I think, if feasting \/ if having a gathering of family and friends at Easter is going to feel celebratory, then, we need things that help us set a table that\u2019s different than what we have on day-to-day meals. So, we\u2019ve created these placemats. They are white, and they are printed with gold\u2014which I think is perfect because Jesus is the King, and He is crowned with gold. They all have a phrase about Easter: \u201cHallelujah \/ He is Risen\u201d is one. \u201c[Hallelujah \/ Jesus] is alive!\u201d is a second one. What does yours say, Dennis?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u201cHallelujah \/ It is finished!\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>\u201c\u2026finished!\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>Then, this one says, \u201cHallelujah \/ Christ is victorious!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes; so a set of these at the dinner table\u2014or you may need two or three sets depending on the size of your family\u2014but it\u2019s just another way to declare what the celebration is all about. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Yes; it\u2019s a reminder that we are here to celebrate the victory that Christ won for us on the cross. These can be used at an outdoor picnic with paper plates and plastic silverware; or you can use them in a dining room with China and fine glassware\u2014whatever you want to do. They work for whatever kind of table you want to set for your celebration. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>You know, there are some moms\u2014who are hearing about stringing lights, and making your own candles with Bible verses on them, and placemats, and tablescapes\u2014and they just go: \u201cBarbara, that\u2019s not me. Okay? I\u2019m just not that kind of a person.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Now, wait a second!\u00a0 I would ask them, \u201cWhat kind of person are you at Thanksgiving?\u201d\u00a0 Maybe, you\u2019re not that way at Thanksgiving either. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u201cI\u2019m a keep-it-simple person; okay?\u00a0 So, we set a nice table; but I just don\u2019t do a whole lot of stuff. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cI get exhausted hearing you talk about this. And now, I feel like I\u2019m not much of a godly mom if I don\u2019t do this; but I\u2019m just under the pile.\u201d\u00a0 So, what do you say to me?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>I used to feel that way. I mean, when we had all of our kids at home\u2014all six of them\u2014I mean, that\u2019s why I didn\u2019t do a lot at Easter; because I was overwhelmed and busy. But if I had access to a real simple way to take some pillar candles, I\u2019d get my kids involved in putting these printed labels on the candles. And we only had\u2014there are only four [designs]. I\u2019m probably going to do a dozen candles, because we\u2019ve got over 30 people going to be at our table. We\u2019re going to have a really long table and four candles won\u2019t be enough. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And we don\u2019t want to burn the house down. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>No; well, we\u2019re probably going to be outside. But anyway\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And by the way, if I had a child that was really gifted, musically\u2014like Bob was when he was a kid\u2014I would assign <em>them<\/em> to find the Easter music\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Absolutely. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014to play, not only in the preparation of the food and preparing the table, but also during the meal as well. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Yes. I think getting the candles is not that hard\u2014and if it is too much and you can\u2019t get it done\u2014then, just put white candles on the table; because candles make something festive, even if you don\u2019t have time to download the DIY and put them on there. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>So, you may not be Martha Stewart\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Correct. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014or even come close to that\u2014but to do something that says, \u201cToday is different than the other days.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>And that\u2019s the whole point\u2014is to do something on Easter that is different than any other day of the year, because Easter is unlike any other day of the year. Find a way to make it be something special. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Bob, you were out at our house, back before Christmas this year\u2014the leadership of FamilyLife got together. Barbara and I had the privilege of treating you all to one of our delicacies. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>We enjoyed hosting you all, but Barbara had the table set. When you walked into our house, you had to notice the beauty\u2014I noticed Mary Ann with her camera, going around, taking pictures to see how Barbara had set it up\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014and it was all around the theme of Christmas. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat Barbara is talking about here is really not that different. It\u2019s taking a season\u2014two or three days\u2014and taking the time to declare the message\u2014in as creative a way as possible \/ in an elegant way\u2014because the God, who made 40,000 different kinds of butterflies \/ who slung a billion galaxies into outer space\u2014He is a God worthy of praise. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You were talking about putting together a playlist or coming up with the songs for Easter. Do you have a favorite Easter hymn\u2014something that comes to mind?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Oh, I have lots of them. In fact, I started, actually, just yesterday or the day before, making a list so that I can actually create my own playlist. But you know, we grew up singing <em>Up from the Grave He Arose<\/em> and those classic Easter hymns. It just doesn\u2019t feel like Easter to me if we don\u2019t sing those. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut I also love <em>In Christ Alone<\/em> and <em>The Resurrection Song<\/em>\u2014I think that\u2019s the name of that particular song that I just love. There are a lot that I love that I think are appropriate to play. I mean, how many hymns must we have about the resurrection?\u2014probably, hundreds. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Favorite that stands out for you?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Well, I have a number of them. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think my encouragement to a listener is: \u201cFind a hymn that has both a melody and words that emotionally touch you; because I think a good bit of worship involves our intellect, involves our emotions, and it also involves our will. I think Easter ought to be a time that moves all three. It ought to move us to think about who Jesus Christ is and where He is today, seated at the right hand of God. It ought to move us to emotionally think about His death, and the <em>love<\/em> that was poured out on the cross, and the <em>hope<\/em> that is there because the tomb is empty \/ our Savior is alive. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cIt also ought to transform us\u2014it ought to impact our behavior, our lives, and our obedience the other 364 days of the year.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>I\u2019ll just say\u2014it doesn\u2019t feel like Easter to me if, by the end of the day, I have not sung <em>Christ the Lord Is Risen Today<\/em>. You\u2019ve got to start with that; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>I agree. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>And then, to sing, \u201cWhen I survey the wondrous cross upon which the Prince of Glory died, my richest gain I count as loss and pour contempt on all my pride,\u201d\u2014those are great words. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd of course, the Charles Wesley hymn: \u201cAnd can it be that I should gain an interest in the Savior\u2019s blood\u201d\u2014the scene where he talks about the quickening ray that comes into the dungeon\u2014\u201cmy chains fell off, my heart was free, I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.\u201d \u201cAmazingly love! has always bothered me about Easter Sunday is that it\u2019s all condensed into the morning; and after you have your Easter meal, it\u2019s over. The TV comes on, and people start doing homework\u2014just life goes back to normal. My vision and my desire\u2014and what we\u2019re going to try to do this year\u2014is extend it for the entire day. We probably won\u2019t do our Easter meal at lunch. I just want to make sure\u2014we\u2019ve been talking all this week about how we can heighten the significance of Passion Week, and of Good Friday, and Easter Sunday. I\u2019m all for that, but this doesn\u2019t mean the end of baskets; does it?\u00a0 I mean, this\u2014you\u2019ll still get a basket\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014and chocolate Easter bunnies. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014and some jelly beans. For Mary Ann\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>You like marshmallow Peeps<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>I do like marshmallow Peeps. We\u2019re trying to think about the Easter celebration, starting on Friday all the way through Sunday, of being a celebration set apart like none other. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>And we\u2019re doing this because it\u2019s a passion of our guest, who is back with us, again, today\u2014your wife Barbara. Welcome. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Thank you, Bob. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>This is something you are passionate about. Can we just sneak an Easter egg?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>You can have your chocolate. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Okay. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>I have to say\u2014when you talked about Easter baskets, though, that was one of the fun responses that I got last year\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>\u2014to the survey we\u2019ve been talking about\u2014the survey that we\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Explain the survey; yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Well, last year, after Easter, I did a survey of a bunch of women\u2014primarily women, but I had some responses from men, too, which I was thrilled with\u2014about \u201cWhat do you do to celebrate Easter?\u00a0 How do you make it meaningful?\u00a0 What are some of the things that you do that I could share with others?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe got some great ideas; but one of the responses came from my daughter-in-law, Stephanie. Stephanie wrote back and she said, \u201cIt never occurred to me that I don\u2019t have to do Easter baskets.\u201d\u00a0 I said, \u201cReally?\u201d\u00a0 So, I called her; and we talked about it. She said: \u201cI just thought that was a part of what you had to do. Everybody does Easter baskets.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Requirement as a parent; yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>\u201cI thought you\u2026\u201d\u2014yes. And she said, \u201cI just realized this year, I don\u2019t have to do Easter baskets. I don\u2019t have to buy little presents for my kids and make sure they all have the same amount of stuff.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>The police will not lock you up if you don\u2019t do\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>She said, \u201cI\u2019m not doing Easter baskets anymore.\u201d\u00a0 But you can still do chocolate \/ you can still do candy. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>I would hope so. I don\u2019t\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Put it in little bowls or something. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Did you talk to her to find out how it went after Easter with the kids when she said\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Well, that was after Easter last year she came to that conclusion. We haven\u2019t had an Easter without baskets yet. So, we\u2019ll see. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>We\u2019re going to have to see how the kids respond: \u201cWhere\u2019s\u2026? There\u2019s no\u2026Mom!!!\u00a0 No Easter baskets!\u201d\u00a0 Did you do egg hunts in your yard around Easter?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>We used to do big egg hunts in our yard around Easter\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014invited all kinds of people. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You were there, Bob. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>That\u2019s true. You did invite many of the staff to come over for your big Easter\u2014\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>We had a bunch of plastic eggs out there. Then, for a number of years, I would find them out in the woods. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>The kids didn\u2019t see them. [Laughter]\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes; not months\u2014years. I mean, we hadn\u2019t had that in years; but we had one section that was kind of partitioned off with string that was only for those parents who had children in attendance who wanted to go home with something live\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Okay\u2014\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014like a bunny. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>\u2014or a chick or a kitten. I think we may have had a kitten one year. Anyway, so most parents wouldn\u2019t let their kids hunt in that area. [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u201cNo; not going near that thing.\u201d\u00a0 So, the Raineys are stuck with chicks and bunnies when it\u2019s all over. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>So, let\u2019s go to Easter Sunday\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Yes; let\u2019s do. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014the day itself. When I think about Easter Sunday, I think about the baskets, I think about going to church, I think about new shoes and new clothes, and I think about ham. I mean, we always had ham on Easter; and we would have\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>We did too. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014a nice meal on Easter. Although, it was always a little trickier for Mom to make Easter dinner; because you\u2019ve got to go to church first and then Easter dinner right after that\u2014it was kind of a headache for her. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Yes; I always thought it was a challenge too. There just wasn\u2019t enough time between getting home and the time we needed to sit down and eat. So, I\u2019m suggesting you don\u2019t have to have your big, fancy meal after church. You can wait and do it later in the day, like we do at Thanksgiving\u2014mid-afternoon \/early evening\u2014or even have your big, fancy Easter meal be an evening meal. It doesn\u2019t have to be right after church. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd in some ways, I think that\u2019s better because that creates a bit of a buffer between getting home from church, and preparing for the big meal, and having the big meal. Jesus did <em>so much<\/em> around meals when He was on earth. He ate with Zacchaeus. He went to Matthew\u2019s house, the tax collector. The Last Supper, of course, was really important in the life of Jesus. A lot of what He did was around food, and around celebrations, and around people gathering together. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I think a meal\u2014a special meal, where you eat different kinds of food and you create an amazing table\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014we call it a tablescape. One of the things I\u2019m going to do is\u2014I\u2019m going to buy a whole bunch of white pillar candles\u2014and you can buy them inexpensively, online, for not much money. The light of the world was gone. So, how fun, on Easter morning, to have candles on your table that you light and proclaim that Jesus, the light of the world, is in fact alive again:\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cHe is risen!\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You want there to be more than just a meal on Easter, though?\u00a0 You want it to be a full-blown party. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>I think it should be a party. I mean, stop and think about what the disciples felt. Do you think they heard that Jesus was alive and they went: \u201cOh, that\u2019s great!\u00a0 I need to run to the grocery store,\u201d or \u201cJesus is alive. Oh, gosh; that\u2019s such great news, but we\u2019ve got ball practice\u201d?\u00a0 I just don\u2019t think they did. I think they were so stunned, so blown-away, so overwhelmed, so amazed. I think our celebration on Easter Sunday needs to replicate that in some way. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I want to have music playing the whole time. If we do it outside\u2014and I\u2019m not totally sure, because of weather, yet how we are going to do this\u2014but we may do it outside. If we do it, I\u2019m going to stream lights all over the place. We\u2019re still going to have candles on the table. We\u2019re going to have music. I would love for us to have dancing; because I think the disciples were so excited when they found out that Jesus was alive that they didn\u2019t just say, \u201cOh, that\u2019s great.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think they were probably jumping up and down. I mean, I think there needs to be some exuberance \/ some expression that is pure joy. I think we need to do more of that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Dennis, when Barbara says, \u201cI\u2019m going to string lights,\u201d does she mean she will be stringing lights or\u2014[Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You and I both know\u2014[Laughter]\u2014we both know what that means. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI just want to comment on what she\u2019s talking about here. You know, we celebrate the Super Bowl, the World Series, the NBA Championships\u2014and I\u2019ve seen you, Bob\u2014I\u2019ve seen you come out of your seat,\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014cheering, yelling, screaming. It\u2019s interesting\u2014a lot of the people that go to those big games and big championships\u2014or against a rival team\u2014how expressive they are on a Saturday afternoon. You take those same people, and you plop them down in church on Sunday morning\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014especially, on Resurrection Sunday morning\u2014and they are subdued \/ they are quiet. They wouldn\u2019t <em>think<\/em> of us cheering\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Never. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014that Jesus defeated <em>death<\/em>: \u201cThere\u2019s hope! There is life eternal!\u00a0 I\u2019m forgiven! You know, like some of the people He healed couldn\u2019t stop praising God. I think we\u2019re really in need of recalibrating which is most exciting\u2014a sporting event or something that affects eternity\u2014seriously!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Yes; something that has changed our lives forever. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You know, it was more than two decades ago that somebody first shared with us the idea of using plastic eggs to tell the story of the Passion Week. And in the past 20 years, we\u2019ve had like one and a half million dozen eggs that have\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>That\u2019s exactly right\u20141.5 million dozen eggs have now gone out in the English language. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe\u2019ve got them translated into Mandarin,\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>\u2014and Spanish. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014Russian. And we figure, conservatively, that 20 million \/ maybe, 30 million children have heard the story of Jesus and have found out about the egg that is empty, which represents the empty tomb on Resurrection Sunday. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>So, something like \u201cResurrection Eggs<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u201d is a way to include younger kids in your Easter Day celebration. You can do it as an Easter egg hunt, but you could also just have them pull an egg out of a basket at the dinner table; can\u2019t you?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>I know other families\u2014and that\u2019s one of the stories that came back to us. As their kids were older, they just put a basket of the \u201cResurrection Eggs\u201d in the middle of the table \/ passed the basket around. Everybody took one; and then, they took turns opening the egg, seeing what was in there, and then telling what they remembered about that symbol from the Easter story. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think the \u201cResurrection Eggs\u201d are a great way to engage kids \/ involve kids\u2014you can do the egg hunt in the afternoon before you have the dinner in the afternoon or evening or pass them around the table and let the adults all talk about them. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You brought in here today a set of placemats. Are these new?\u00a0 I don\u2019t think I\u2019ve seen these before. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>You haven\u2019t; have you?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>No. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>No; these are brand-new this year. I\u2019m really excited because I think, if feasting \/ if having a gathering of family and friends at Easter is going to feel celebratory, then, we need things that help us set a table that\u2019s different than what we have on day-to-day meals. So, we\u2019ve created these placemats. They are white, and they are printed with gold\u2014which I think is perfect because Jesus is the King, and He is crowned with gold. They all have a phrase about Easter: \u201cHallelujah \/ He is Risen\u201d is one. \u201c[Hallelujah \/ Jesus] is alive!\u201d is a second one. What does yours say, Dennis?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u201cHallelujah \/ It is finished!\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>\u201c\u2026finished!\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>Then, this one says, \u201cHallelujah \/ Christ is victorious!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes; so a set of these at the dinner table\u2014or you may need two or three sets depending on the size of your family\u2014but it\u2019s just another way to declare what the celebration is all about. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Yes; it\u2019s a reminder that we are here to celebrate the victory that Christ won for us on the cross. These can be used at an outdoor picnic with paper plates and plastic silverware; or you can use them in a dining room with China and fine glassware\u2014whatever you want to do. They work for whatever kind of table you want to set for your celebration. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>You know, there are some moms\u2014who are hearing about stringing lights, and making your own candles with Bible verses on them, and placemats, and tablescapes\u2014and they just go: \u201cBarbara, that\u2019s not me. Okay? I\u2019m just not that kind of a person.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Now, wait a second!\u00a0 I would ask them, \u201cWhat kind of person are you at Thanksgiving?\u201d\u00a0 Maybe, you\u2019re not that way at Thanksgiving either. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u201cI\u2019m a keep-it-simple person; okay?\u00a0 So, we set a nice table; but I just don\u2019t do a whole lot of stuff. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cI get exhausted hearing you talk about this. And now, I feel like I\u2019m not much of a godly mom if I don\u2019t do this; but I\u2019m just under the pile.\u201d\u00a0 So, what do you say to me?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>I used to feel that way. I mean, when we had all of our kids at home\u2014all six of them\u2014I mean, that\u2019s why I didn\u2019t do a lot at Easter; because I was overwhelmed and busy. But if I had access to a real simple way to take some pillar candles, I\u2019d get my kids involved in putting these printed labels on the candles. And we only had\u2014there are only four [designs]. I\u2019m probably going to do a dozen candles, because we\u2019ve got over 30 people going to be at our table. We\u2019re going to have a really long table and four candles won\u2019t be enough. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And we don\u2019t want to burn the house down. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>No; well, we\u2019re probably going to be outside. But anyway\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And by the way, if I had a child that was really gifted, musically\u2014like Bob was when he was a kid\u2014I would assign <em>them<\/em> to find the Easter music\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Absolutely. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014to play, not only in the preparation of the food and preparing the table, but also during the meal as well. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Yes. I think getting the candles is not that hard\u2014and if it is too much and you can\u2019t get it done\u2014then, just put white candles on the table; because candles make something festive, even if you don\u2019t have time to download the DIY and put them on there. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>So, you may not be Martha Stewart\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Correct. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014or even come close to that\u2014but to do something that says, \u201cToday is different than the other days.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>And that\u2019s the whole point\u2014is to do something on Easter that is different than any other day of the year, because Easter is unlike any other day of the year. Find a way to make it be something special. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Bob, you were out at our house, back before Christmas this year\u2014the leadership of FamilyLife got together. Barbara and I had the privilege of treating you all to one of our delicacies. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>We enjoyed hosting you all, but Barbara had the table set. When you walked into our house, you had to notice the beauty\u2014I noticed Mary Ann with her camera, going around, taking pictures to see how Barbara had set it up\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014and it was all around the theme of Christmas. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat Barbara is talking about here is really not that different. It\u2019s taking a season\u2014two or three days\u2014and taking the time to declare the message\u2014in as creative a way as possible \/ in an elegant way\u2014because the God, who made 40,000 different kinds of butterflies \/ who slung a billion galaxies into outer space\u2014He is a God worthy of praise. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You were talking about putting together a playlist or coming up with the songs for Easter. Do you have a favorite Easter hymn\u2014something that comes to mind?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Oh, I have lots of them. In fact, I started, actually, just yesterday or the day before, making a list so that I can actually create my own playlist. But you know, we grew up singing <em>Up from the Grave He Arose<\/em> and those classic Easter hymns. It just doesn\u2019t feel like Easter to me if we don\u2019t sing those. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut I also love <em>In Christ Alone<\/em> and <em>The Resurrection Song<\/em>\u2014I think that\u2019s the name of that particular song that I just love. There are a lot that I love that I think are appropriate to play. I mean, how many hymns must we have about the resurrection?\u2014probably, hundreds. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Favorite that stands out for you?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Well, I have a number of them. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think my encouragement to a listener is: \u201cFind a hymn that has both a melody and words that emotionally touch you; because I think a good bit of worship involves our intellect, involves our emotions, and it also involves our will. I think Easter ought to be a time that moves all three. It ought to move us to think about who Jesus Christ is and where He is today, seated at the right hand of God. It ought to move us to emotionally think about His death, and the <em>love<\/em> that was poured out on the cross, and the <em>hope<\/em> that is there because the tomb is empty \/ our Savior is alive. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cIt also ought to transform us\u2014it ought to impact our behavior, our lives, and our obedience the other 364 days of the year.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>I\u2019ll just say\u2014it doesn\u2019t feel like Easter to me if, by the end of the day, I have not sung <em>Christ the Lord Is Risen Today<\/em>. You\u2019ve got to start with that; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>I agree. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>And then, to sing, \u201cWhen I survey the wondrous cross upon which the Prince of Glory died, my richest gain I count as loss and pour contempt on all my pride,\u201d\u2014those are great words. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd of course, the Charles Wesley hymn: \u201cAnd can it be that I should gain an interest in the Savior\u2019s blood\u201d\u2014the scene where he talks about the quickening ray that comes into the dungeon\u2014\u201cmy chains fell off, my heart was free, I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.\u201d \u201cAmazingly love!
