Here\u2019s author and broadcaster, Jon Gauger.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jon:<\/strong> We\u2019ve got a little camper that we keep and go out to on the weekends\u2014a trailer\u2014we like to have our grandkids come out to sometimes. Because it\u2019s off the ground, we built a series of steps. Joslyn, at the age of three or four, was on those steps\u2014at the platform\u2014and took a <em>bad<\/em>tumble off of those steps! She comes up <em>crying<\/em> and just screaming. Well, a couple minutes later, she stands right back up at the top\u2014climbs right back up. We hear her say\u2014tears still kind of wet on her cheeks\u2014[in a matter-of-fact voice] \u201cWow! Let\u2019s try that again!\u201d [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>This is <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> for Wednesday, December 7<sup>th<\/sup>. Our host is the President of FamilyLife<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, Dennis Rainey, and I'm Bob Lepine. Jon Gauger had the opportunity, recently, to talk to a couple dozen Christian leaders about subjects like perseverance and faithfulness. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>1:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe\u2019ll hear the lessons that they\u2019ve learned over the years today. Stay with us. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd welcome to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>. Thanks for joining us. I don\u2019t know how many of our listeners realize this, but you have a handful of questions that are some of your favorite questions to ask people.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> The question about \u201cWhat\u2019s the most courageous thing you\u2019ve ever done?\u201d\u2014that\u2019s one you love to ask. You used to have one that you asked more often than that. I used to give Dennis a hard time about this question because he\u2014[Laughter] \u2014he would say, \u201cOut of all of the memories in your life \/ all the things you\u2019ve done, if you could only save one memory, what one memory would you save and why?\u201d Well, now, that is an impossible question to ask.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014for someone who is sequential, like Bob.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You\u2019ve kind of backed off on asking that question.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Well, you\u2019ve shamed me! [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jon: <\/strong>See, I\u2019mgetting all set here to be askedthat question\u2014I\u2019m ready for it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Are you ready for it?\u2014alright. Jon Gauger joins us on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>. He has written a book called <em>If I Could Do it All Over Again<\/em>.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You ask a lot of questions in this book\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014of some very famous followers of Christ. He is a syndicated radio host. He has travelled\u2014what\u2014more than 35 countries?\u2014is that right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jon:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Got two adult children\u2014been married to your wife since 1983. In fact, I want to go back to the beginning\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jon:<\/strong> Yes; sure.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014because you have a connection to <em>FamilyLife<\/em>, back in \u201983; but first, If you could only keep one memory, Jon, out of all the memories in your life, what memory would you keep and why?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jon:<\/strong> You know, even as you guys were joking around earlier, the answer that flashed in my mind was our wedding day\u2014when I married Diana. The thing for me is\u2014for a lot of people\u2014they\u2019ve lived this life of whatever, and they had this dramatic conversion, and they remember that day when they came to Christ \/ I\u2019m not in any way trying to dismiss that\u2014I was a really little kid when I came to know the Lord.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jon:<\/strong> I was\u2014I was grateful for that \/ I\u2019m incredibly and eternally grateful for that\u2014and yet, on a human level, if you were to say, \u201cWhat memory?\u201d\u2014it would have to be the day we got married. It was so special. We\u2019d looked forward to it, and it was just <em>great<\/em>.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I thought for sure you were going to say, \u201cIt was the weekend we went to the <em>Weekend to Remember<\/em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup> marriage getaway,\u201d and you\u2019re just going to try to schmooze Dennis.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jon:<\/strong> Well\u2014[Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I thought it was that he\u2019d been on a radio show the past couple of days\u2014[Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jon:<\/strong> The <em>reason<\/em> the day that we got married <em>was<\/em> so special is we\u2019d been properly <em>prepared<\/em> at a <em>FamilyLife<\/em> conference!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> That goes all the way back to \u201983.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jon:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> You came as an engaged couple.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jon:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> What did you get out of it?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jon:<\/strong> Well, I can still remember the \u201cFive Threats to Marital Oneness\u201d\u2014going through that book\u2014just the realistic way that marriage was\u2014was laid out. I thought: \u201cWow! These are\u2014these are real issues here.\u201d We had to work through some stuff, right there; and I thought, \u201cI guess it isn\u2019t all just perfect.\u201d So it was a great reality check before we ever said \u2018\u201d Do.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You got convicted, listening to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> one day, when Dennis was talking about honoring your parents; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jon:<\/strong> Yes; he spoke about writing a tribute to your parents. You were quite insistent, Dennis: \u201cYou need to get this done, and you need to <em>share<\/em> it with them!\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou were really kind of pushing.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014face to face.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jon:<\/strong> That\u2019s right, and I got convicted by this.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> You did it immediately; didn\u2019t you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jon:<\/strong> No; I did not. I put it off for years! [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jon:<\/strong> I\u2019m a prodigal, but I got there! In the kindness of Jesus, in the summer, I was able to share it with them in person\u2014never finished writing it out. Got it printed up in time for their 60<sup>th<\/sup> wedding anniversary.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I want you, right now, to read a favorite memory of your dad. I want you to set the context for this favorite memory and a favorite memory of your mom. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> These\u2014you shared this in the tribute; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jon:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> This is in the tribute; alright? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jon:<\/strong> So there I was\u2014young twenty-ish-year-old kid. I thought I\u2019d found the girl of my dreams\u2014proposed to her\u2014every indication was that she wanted to get married. I had a ring in my pocket\u2014she said, \u201cI want to think about this.\u201d A week later, \u201cNo; I don\u2019t ever want to see you again.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Wow.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jon:<\/strong> I still have no explanation to this day. God, I think, was protecting me\u2014I <em>know<\/em> He was, because she wasn\u2019t the right one.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut at the time\u2014you\u2019re twenty-something with stars in your eyes and marriage on your mind\u2014and your heart\u2019s shattered into a thousand pieces. I came home and had to share this story with my folks, and I cried about it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Emotion in voice] My dad\u2014he \/ he took me out\u2014we rode bikes. We went over to a pie place, and we had pie together. He spoke kind things to me. That night\u2014I\u2019m really ashamed to say this\u2014I \/ I had some sort of a nightmare. I know I cried out in my sleep. From the next bedroom over, he came over and he comforted me! That is just a memory I\u2019ll always have. It\u2019s just a great memory, and I love my dad for it\u2014that and many other things. Dad, I want to say: \u201cThank You for that. Thank you again.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> What about your mom?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jon:<\/strong> Mom had six kids to cook for, and yet she never seemed to tire of baking. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI remember mom making these cinnamon rolls with frosting on them\u2014fantastic! You could\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I can smell them! [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jon:<\/strong> You could peel of these layers until you get to the center\u2014I called it \u201cthe <em>nugget<\/em>\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Oh, yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jon:<\/strong> \u2014where most of the cinnamon kind of pocketed there. Oh! I can taste those rolls! I remember sitting at the table \/ eating them, as a family. I remember having fun with the game night with her mom\u2014Grandma Blades. She went immediately to something her dad had shared; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nancy: <\/strong>[Recording] I have lots of favorite quotes. I\u2019m a big collector or quotes; and in fact, on Twitter, I mostly quote old, dead guys. [Laughs] That\u2019s\u2014I live a lot in those quotes\u2014but I have one that\u2019s maybe especially meaningful to me. It\u2019s on a little paper weight that my dad had on his desk and that I got after he went to be with the Lord. It\u2019s just a couplet\u2014I don\u2019t even know who originally said it\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014but it\u2019s familiar to many of us. How would you answer the question?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I\u2019ve shared a favorite quote; in fact, I pulled it up, knowing that were going to be talking about this\u2014I pulled up Dr. Martin Lloyd Jones, who was talking about the issue of depression. He said: \u201cHave you ever realized that most of your unhappiness in life is due to the fact that you\u2019re listening to yourself instead of talking to yourself? Take those thoughts that come to you the moment you wake up in the morning. You\u2019ve not originated them, but they\u2019re talking to you. They bring back the problems of yesterday. Somebody\u2019s talking. Who\u2019s talking to you? Your <em>self<\/em> is talking.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow he says: \u201cDavid\u2019s treatment in Psalm 42 was this\u2014instead of allowing this self to talk to him, he starts talking to himself, \u2018Why art thou cast down, oh my soul?\u2019 he asks. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe soul has been depressing him \/ crushing him. He stands up and says: \u2018Self, listen for a moment. I\u2019ll speak to you.\u2019\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> That is great counsel\u2014it really is. Jon, what about you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jon:<\/strong> I like Samuel Rutherford, \u201cMillions of hells of sinners cannot come near to exhaust infinite grace.\u201d I\u2019ve been on a life-long study of grace. I once read through every instance of the use of grace in Scripture. Thought I could finally wrap my\u2014my arms around it and couldn\u2019t\u2014 came to my own conclusion: \u201cGrace is the loveliness of Jesus at its loveliest.\u201d The idea, \u201cMillions of hells of sinners <em>cannot come near<\/em> to exhaust infinite grace,\u201d\u2014that\u2019s assuring.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I have never heard that one\u2014that\u2019s good. I want to copy of that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You have a favorite too?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I do. It really occurred to me when I was a junior in college. I was coming out of the spiritual toolies\u2014having been a prodigal \/ having grown up in the church\u2014and had really based my life on my doubts \/ hadn\u2019t really come to grips with what I believe. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI ran into a guy by the name of Tom Skinner. He started and ended each of five messages with this quote; and it hit me between the spiritual eyes: \u201cI spent a long time trying to come to grips with my doubt when suddenly I realized I better come to grips with what I believe. I have since moved from the agony of questions that I cannot answer to the reality of answers that I cannot escape, and it\u2019s a great relief.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen I kind of figured out that I had to come to grips with who Jesus is and His claims on my life\u2014and I placed my wager on that \/ I placed my life against that\u2014that\u2019s when my life took off! It was like I moved from black and white to Technicolor<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> and quadraphonic sound! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI mean, life was exhilarating; because I was living it the way God designed it to be lived.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> One of the questions you asked people, as a part of your book, Jon, was: \u201cWhat truth would they want to pass on to somebody else?\u201d Really, our favorite Bible verses \/ our favorite quotes\u2014these are the things we do pass on to others. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne of the people you talked to was a past president of the Moody Bible Institute, Dr. Joe Stowell. He shared what it is that he often passes on to others.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe: <\/strong>[Recording] I have a friend\u2014actually He\u2019s my best friend, who said something one time\u2014He said, \u201cLove the Lord thy God with all your heart and love your neighbor as yourself.\u201d My best friend said that to me. That\u2019s what I would want to pass on\u2014that that is the core of virtue \/ that is the core of success, that that is the core for peace, that that is the core for a deep relationship with the Lord and a deep relationship with others\u2014that that\u2019s the key \/ that is kind of like the center of it all. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf I only had 30 seconds with my grandkids, and then I was going to be raptured, I would just say: \u201cHey, you guys, don\u2019t ever forget this and be sure to live this: \u2018Love the Lord your God with all your heart and your soul and your strength; and love your neighbor as yourself.\u2019\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Jesus goes on to say, \u201cAll of the law and the prophets can be summed up in those two statements.\u201d He saying the whole Old Testament is all about loving God and loving your neighbor. You stop and think, \u201cIf the whole Old Testament is about that, I\u2019m guessing the whole New Testament is in lock step with that.\u201d That really is the center of it all; isn\u2019t it?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> God is love, and He\u2019s trying to train us in how to love. Unfortunately, we don\u2019t know how to do it. We have to first experience His love, and forgiveness, and grace, and mercy; and then, we begin to enroll in the first grade of love. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf we pass that grade, He\u2019ll move us into the next grade. I had to smile, because he\u2019s all about equipping people with the truth so they can stand tall and stand firm because God said it. If God said it, you need to believe it; and you need to act on it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> One of the other people you asked the same question\u2014again, the question is: \u201cWhat truth would you want to pass on to others?\u201d\u2014you asked Dr. Gary Chapman, the author of <em>The Five Love Languages<\/em> book, what it is he\u2019d pass on to others. Here\u2019s what he shared.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Gary:<\/strong> [Recording] I think, fundamentally, I would pass on to my children, my grandchildren, my great-grandchildren the reality that Jesus Christ is Lord; and He invaded human history so that we can <em>know<\/em> Him in a personal way\u2014that\u2019s fundamental. Once they understand that and accept that\u2014accept Christ as their salvation\u2014I think the thing I would want to impress upon them is that each of us is uniquely gifted by God. God wants to use what He\u2019s given us to further His purposes in the world. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLife\u2019s greatest meaning is found in taking what God has given you and developing it and then using it to interface and interact with other people as God\u2019s representatives.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Studio]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> That sounds a lot like Ephesians 2:10, which says that \u201cWe are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which He prepared in advance that we would walk in them.\u201d There is great joy in embracing that truth and saying, \u201cThis is who God made me to be.\u201d It is Eric Liddell saying: \u201cWhen I run, I feel His pleasure. God made me fast,\u201d\u2014figuring out what God made you to be and to do. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIn fact, I\u2019m just thinking: \u201cThat\u2019s at the heart of the <em>Passport2Identity<\/em>\u2122 resource that we created for parents and teens to go through together to help them understand \u201cWhat is your identity?\u201d \/ \u201cWhat is your purpose?\u201d because there\u2019s nothing that will bring you greater satisfaction than to be doing what you were made to do.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I don\u2019t know how people today live in this changing tide of this culture if you don\u2019t have the absolute word of God to be able to base your life on and you know where you\u2019re headed for eternity. How in the world can you handle this life and what it throws you?\u2014not to mention the disappointments, and the suffering, and the challenges that we face? What makes sense out of life but the Scriptures?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m sitting here thinking about this question: \u201cWhat is a truth that you would pass on to another generation?\u201d How would you answer it?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jon:<\/strong> I would <em>definitely <\/em>want my children and grandchildren to know that the <em>only<\/em> life worth living is a life centered in Jesus\u2014believing that He is the way, the truth and the life. No other way to heaven \/ no other way to happiness on the earth\u2014it\u2019s Jesus and Jesus only.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe\u2019ve got a little camper that we keep and go out to on the weekends\u2014a trailer\u2014we like to have our grandkids come out to sometimes. Because it\u2019s off the ground, as trailers are \/ several feet, we\u2019ve built a series of steps. Joslyn, at the age of three or four, was on those steps\u2014at the platform\u2014and took a <em>bad<\/em>tumble off of those steps\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014<em>Bdoom! Bdoom! Bdoom!<\/em> \u2014she comes down. Of course, as a grandparent, you\u2019re horrified! \u201cHave I bruised this kid?\u2014broken a bone?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tShe comes up <em>crying<\/em> and just screaming. She\u2019s just fine, in the kindness of God. Well, a couple minutes later, she stands right back up at the top\u2014climbs right back up. We hear her say\u2014tears still kind of wet on her cheeks\u2014[in a matter-of-fact voice] \u201cWow! Let\u2019s try that again!\u201d [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou know, the beauty of our relationship with Jesus is\u2014He says to every one of us:\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jon:<\/strong> \u201cLet\u2019s try that again.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> That reminds me of a story that Michael Card told you [Jon] as you were working on this book\u2014Michael Card, of course, the singer\/songwriter who wrote the song, <em>El Shaddai<\/em>\u2014wrote so many other songs. He had an experience, early in life, where somebody dusted him off and said: \u201cKeep trying. Stay in there,\u201d\u2014something he never forgot. Mr. Edwards\u2014I got in trouble\u2014I was about seven years old \/ I got in trouble in church one time and was crying. He came up to me\u2014and got down on his knees and got right, face to face, with me\u2014and said: \u201cMichael, I want you to know you\u2019re wrong; right? What you did was wrong, but I want you to know I\u2019m on your side. Right or wrong, I\u2019m on your side; and in fact, especially when you\u2019re wrong, I\u2019m going to be on your side.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think what I\u2019ll take to my grave is that was the first time that I ever really got the gospel\u2014because, while we were sinners, Jesus says, \u201cI\u2019m going to be on <em>your<\/em> side.\u201d Before there is any hope or any indication that we would repent, and turn, and come to Him, Jesus still\u2014He gets down and basically gets, face to face, and says, \u201cYou\u2019re wrong, but I\u2019m going to be on your side.\u201d I still think that changed everything for me in terms of understanding the gospel.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLater, I had a son who was\u2014who had been arrested a couple of times and involved with smoking pot. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tEvery time we went to court with him\u2014I went to court with him four times\u2014I would say: \u201cNate, what you did was wrong; but I want you to know I\u2019m here because I\u2019m on your side. Right or wrong, I\u2019m on your side\u2014you need to know that. You\u2019re wrong, and I choose to be on your side.\u201d Later, after he kind of turned his life around, he called me and he said, \u201cThat was the gospel; wasn\u2019t it?\u201d I said, \u201cYes; absolutely.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Studio]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And to that person, who\u2019s listening right now: \u201cDo you know that God\u2019s on your side? Have you made that commitment?\u201d These are the words of Jesus Christ\u2014He said, \u201cTruly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment but has passed from death to life [Ephesians 5:24].\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou\u2019re really talking about God being on your side so much so that he visited the planet, lived a perfect life, died on a cross, defeated death, rose from the grave and is seated at the right hand of God the Father. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe offers you eternal life. Will you take Him at His word and trust in Him? Don\u2019t let the sun go down or don\u2019t put your head on the pillow tonight before you take God at His word and surrender your soul \/ your life to the One who made you. He will transform you\/He will redeem you. You will still face plenty of challenges, but you\u2019re going to experience the One who is on your side.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes.
