Here\u2019s Barbara Rainey. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>We know that when He came\u2014His first advent\u2014when He came and was born as a baby in a manger, He came to serve us, He came to redeem us, and He came to deliver us. He was still King in all eternity, but He didn\u2019t walk on earth as the King. He walked on earth as a Servant and as a Savior; but someday, He will come back. There will be a second advent of Jesus Christ. And when He comes back again, He will come back as King of kings and Lord of lords. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>This is <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> for Friday, December 2<sup>nd<\/sup>. Thanks for joining us on the Friday edition. Here it is December. I always think of December as a good time just for reflection\u2014although, typically, not the first part of December. Usually, it\u2019s the end of December when you have a few minutes to catch your breath and kind of reflect on what the year has been. Usually, the first part of the month, you\u2019ve got\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>It\u2019s a sprint. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014you\u2019ve just got so much going on. But this has been a great year for us, at FamilyLife. We\u2019ve been celebrating our 40<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary as a ministry this year. It has been fun for us to take some time and just look back on how we\u2019ve seen God at work in this ministry for four decades. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And I was recently looking back on how God worked in the past 12 months. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2.00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBob, you know, we impacted a <em>record<\/em> number of people\u201418.8 million visited our website; listened to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> \/ <em>Real FamilyLife<\/em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup>; have been to an <em>Art of Marriage<\/em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup> \/ a <em>Weekend to Remember<\/em><em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup><\/em> event; bought <em>Passport2Purity<\/em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup>. You know, Christmas is on a Sunday this year. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Will your church cancel, or will they have services?\u00a0 Do you know?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>That\u2019s a good question!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Barbara: <\/strong>I don\u2019t know. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>It\u2019s always hard to know what to do, because Christmas morning is such a family time. There are so many traditions that to try to say, \u201cOkay; we want to go to church too,\u201d just feels out of the normal rhythm\u2014I mean, I get that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4.00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes; and I\u2019m thinking of one child in our family who\u2014if I would have said, \u201cYou know, we\u2019re all just going to get cleaned up and go to church first before we get about celebrating Christmas,\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014I think this child\u2014she might have completely split in half. [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>Disinherited herself from the family\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Yes; she would have. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014and said, \u201cI\u2019m joining somebody else\u2019s family for this Christmas.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>In fact, she\u2019s out in the production area of our studio here\u2014Laura. We\u2019ve asked Laura to come in here, recently, a couple of times. So, Laura, would you come into the studio and just explain how difficult it was for you to <em>wait<\/em>\u2014the concept of waiting?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>And while you\u2019re coming in\u2014and Laura, welcome, by the way\u2014welcome back into the studio. While you are coming in, can we just acknowledge that there might be a heredity link to Laura\u2019s impatience that, maybe, somebody\u2014[Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Now, why would we want to meddle in that stuff?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5.00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Barbara, would you like to explain why there might have been a heredity link to this?\u00a0 [Laughter] Do you know anybody else who might have gotten impatient around Christmastime?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>It wasn\u2019t me. [Laughter]\u00a0 I know that! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Laura: <\/strong>Who it was?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Maybe, that\u2019s it\u2014maybe, it\u2019s being the youngest in the family; because I was the firstborn. My mother remembers this\u2014I hoarded my presents \/ I kept them to the side. I opened them very slowly, because I wanted it to last all day long. But Dennis was not that way. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>I wasn\u2019t either\u2014I was the last born. So, I was the one who thought 5.30 was the appropriate time to go open presents on Christmas morning. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Laura: <\/strong>Absolutely. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Before the sun was up?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Well, you know me\u2014morning time is not my\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Oh, yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014favorite time; but on Christmas morning\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>It was your favorite time!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014it was a whole different deal. So, getting up early on Christmas, I was all about that as well. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>There are going to be some people, though, who listen to what we\u2019re talking about here\u2014they are going to say, \u201cYou guys\u2014you are heretics that you wouldn\u2019t go to church on Christmas morning.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6.00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLaura, would you just comment on what that would have done to you if I\u2019d had said. \u201cOkay; Laura, let\u2019s go to church. You can wait another two hours to open the presents\u201d?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Laura: <\/strong>I probably would have cried; because I cried already whenever my older siblings would tease me and be like. \u201cI\u2019ve got to take a shower,\u201d \u201cI\u2019ve got to dry my hair,\u201d\u2026\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Because they were teenagers when you were five. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Laura: <\/strong>Yes; \u201cWe\u2019ve got to eat breakfast.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>So, is there\u2014was there an imposed start time?\u00a0 [Laughter] Did you have a time you had to stay in bed until?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Laura: <\/strong>Oh, I\u2019m sure that we did. I don\u2019t remember exactly what time it was, but I\u2019m fairly certain I was the first one knocking on my parents\u2019 door. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Did you have a routine for going to the tree?\u00a0 Did everybody have to go together?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Laura: <\/strong>We did. Well, we switched it up every single year. It depended on whatever Dad\u2014his creativity. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Whatever he came up with. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Laura: <\/strong>Whatever he came up with. And so, one year, it would be\u2014youngest to oldest\u2014which was always my favorite because I got to see in\u2014I got to look around the living room. I tried not to peek, but it was really hard. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7.00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tMy little five-year-old heart couldn\u2019t handle it. One year, it was oldest to youngest; and that was traumatic. Then, boys wind up first and then girls. You know, he got creative with it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I think what God was doing, though, Laura, was\u2014He was preparing you to <em>wait<\/em> until you were 31 to get married. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Oh, maybe, that\u2019s it!\u00a0 [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Laura: <\/strong>Maybe, that\u2019s what He was doing. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>He was building the discipline in you. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Laura: <\/strong>If only I knew, back in the day, that\u2019s what was happening. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>She\u2019s celebrating this Christmas with her new love-of-her-life, Josh. They\u2019ll undoubtedly come visit us, Bob\u2014I would think they\u2019ll come visit us. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>So, that\u2019s a question. \u201cWhere are you celebrating Christmas?\u00a0 Have you worked it out yet?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Laura: <\/strong>We have. We spent Thanksgiving with my mom\u2019s family at the farm. Then, this year, we will spend Christmas with his family; but we\u2014his family celebrates Christmas Eve. So, Christmas Eve is the time where we exchange gifts and have a delicious dinner. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8.00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLittle Rock\u2019s not too far away. So, we might just hop on I-40 on Christmas morning and pop over to see my parents. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Or just drive over Christmas Eve night, because you can leave at midnight. [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Laura: <\/strong>Right; exactly. Yes! We could be Santa. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You could be there, waiting on the steps\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Laura: <\/strong>That\u2019s right!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014to open presents. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Yes; you and Josh could get in line. That would be a new twist. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Laura: <\/strong>Matching PJ\u2019s. [Laughter]\u00a0 Can\u2019t wait!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Well, we\u2019re laughing about these traditions, but Barbara has created a new tradition for families to help them bring the reality of Jesus Christ into your Christmas celebration. She\u2019s created a number of Adorenaments<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>. They\u2019re ornaments that are all based upon the names of Christ. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe first year was His Christmas names from Luke, Chapter 2, and Isaiah. The second year was His royal names\u2014we\u2019re going to talk about that in a moment. The third year was His Savior names. The fourth year\u2014the names of Christ in some of the most widely-used languages around the world. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9.00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd this year, your new Adorenaments are, actually, not metal\u2014these are globes. They are actually heavy as well. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Yes; they are round globes, and they have the continents on them so it looks like the planet, earth. On each one of the four globes is a name of Christ that reminds us why He came to earth when He was born in Bethlehem. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne of them says, \u201cJesus is the Light of the World.\u201d\u00a0 One of them says, \u201cJesus is the Messenger,\u201d because He came to bring us the message of good news. One of them says, \u201cJesus is the Son,\u201d because He came and was born as the Son of God. And the fourth one is \u201cJesus is the Word.\u201d\u00a0 We learn in John that Jesus is the Word, and He came to dwell among us. So, each of those four names tell us something about why Jesus came and was born in a manger in Bethlehem for us, who live on planet earth. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>I mentioned that this Sunday is the second Sunday in the Advent season. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10.00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSome churches will address Advent \/ others don\u2019t. Advent really just means \u201ccoming.\u201d\u00a0 It\u2019s about a period of waiting and anticipation for the coming of Jesus. Christmas is referred to as His first advent,\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014because there is a second advent coming. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>There will be a second advent. That\u2019s really what this set of ornaments\u2014this set of names that we\u2019re going to talk about today\u2014is all about. It\u2019s about Jesus as our King. We know that when He came\u2014His first advent\u2014when He came and was born as a baby in a manger, He came to serve us; He came to redeem us; He came to deliver us. He was still King in all eternity, but He didn\u2019t walk on earth as the King. He walked on earth as a Servant and as a Savior. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br>But someday, as you referred to, He will come back. There will be a second advent of Jesus Christ. And when He comes back again, He will come back as King\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11.00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014King of kings and Lord of lords. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd the ornaments that we are talking about today are a series of crowns\u2014they are seven crowns\u2014and each of them has one of his royal names on them. We, as believers, need to look forward to that. Just as we have a sense of anticipation\u2014that we were talking about earlier\u2014in the month of December, looking forward to Christmas Day as a remembrance of His first advent\u2014God wants us to live with a sense of anticipation, every day of our lives, as we think about His coming back again. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd when He comes back again, He will not come as a baby. He will come as a King, and that\u2019s what these ornaments help us remember. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And I\u2019ve just pulled out two that Barbara rushed by, because these are just powerful names\u2014King of kings, Lord of lords. It\u2019s only used two times in Scripture. This is not a casual name that was given to Christ. The Apostle Paul used it as he wrote to Timothy, and the Apostle John wrote about it in the Book of Revelation.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12.00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, I want you to just, again, think about that title\u2014King of kings \/ all tens of thousands of those kings who lived and died. This King came; He died; He rose again from the grave; and He\u2019s coming back. There is a second advent that will be spectacular. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Well, if you live in a kingdom, the king is the one with supreme authority. Whatever the king says goes. If Jesus is the King of kings, then, His authority trumps all other authority. We talked earlier this year, on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>, about the fact that we do live as citizens of a different kingdom\u2014the kingdom of heaven. Jesus is the King. Our allegiance\u2014before our allegiance to our country or to our family, even\u2014our highest allegiance goes to the kingdom of heaven. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13.00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat\u2019s why it is good for us to remember, at Christmas, that Jesus is a King. He is our King, and He owns us if we belong to Him. We owe Him our allegiance and our loyalty. Remembering that He is a King\u2014and didn\u2019t just come as a baby\u2014but He is coming back as a King is good for us to focus on at Christmas when we think about all of the different names of Jesus Christ. There are names that refer to Him and His royalty as the King. It\u2019s good for us to remember that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And if you want to read\u2014I bet you, as a listener, haven\u2019t been spending much time here\u2014but if you want to read a spectacular setting that occurs near the end of the Book of Revelation, go to Chapter 19 and look at, beginning at verse 11, where there is a rider on a white horse. And this is the place where the title, King of kings and Lord of lords, comes out. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14.00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s basically a battle between God and evil\u2014it\u2019s the final battle. It is Jesus Christ who is on the white horse, coming to conquer. He is not\u2014as Barbara said\u2014He is not the Suffering Servant who came to be the Lamb\u2014on this particular occasion, He is the King of kings, the Lord of lords; and He is coming to take over. It\u2019s spectacular. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt says in verse 16, \u201cOn the robe and on His thigh, He has a name written, King of kings, Lord of lords.\u201d\u00a0 I think the key question is. \u201cDo you know Him?\u00a0 Do you know the King?\u00a0 Do you have a relationship with Him?\u201d\u00a0 This is going to happen\u2014this is more real than this studio that we are broadcasting from. It\u2019s more real than the car you\u2019re sitting in; or the house that you\u2019re listening to this radio broadcast in; or walking, listening, as you take a walk, on your device. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15.00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThis is sure and certain. This will become reality. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>We have an experience that we both have shared, but we didn\u2019t share it together. I remember being in New York, back in the 1980s. I was there during the Christmas season and there on a Sunday. I got tickets to go see the Radio City Christmas Pageant. It was the last show of the night, and they still had some tickets available. One ticket\u2014that\u2019s all I needed. I went to see it, and it was fun\u2014it\u2019s like a big variety show, like the old TV variety shows. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut I was surprised\u2014and you had the same experience\u2014I was surprised there was a spiritual element to this Christmas pageant at Radio City Music Hall in New York City that I thought. \u201cOh! They know what this is really all about.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Yes; Dennis and I went for the first time\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16.00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014I don\u2019t know\u2014was it the \u201880s, or was it the \u201890s?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I don\u2019t remember. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Barbara: <\/strong>We went and got tickets, and we thought the same thing that you did. We thought. \u201cThis is entertaining. This is beautiful. It\u2019s lavish \/ it\u2019s amazing\u2014it\u2019s fun.\u201d Then, it turned on a dime, when there was a pause in the action on stage and the lights dimmed. All of a sudden, they began to display a nativity scene\u2014a live nativity scene. In came the shepherds and in came the\u2014and they had real sheep\u2014and in came Mary and Joseph. They had the stable scene; and then, down the aisles came a procession with camels, and the kings, and their servants. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe were\u2014I remember I was just as stunned as you were. We were wide-eyed, because we had no idea that this was a part of the program. They went down the aisle, and the music was appropriate. The lighting and all of this\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>I thought I was at church for a minute. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Yes; it felt like church!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Barbara: <\/strong>I couldn\u2019t believe we were in New York City, watching this <em>amazing<\/em> display of the Christmas story in front of us with live animals\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17.00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014I mean, it was spectacular. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And at some point, after they made the turn\u2014I don\u2019t remember exactly how it started\u2014but they began to read a poem called <em>One Solitary Life<\/em>. And I just remember it was a powerful, emotional moment\u2014that, here, in the most powerful city in the world, people were going to stop \/ they were going to recognize who Christ is. And this show, which was to entertain the wealthy, the powerful, and the elite\u2014people from all walks of life\u2014recognized the Savior. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI hadn\u2019t read this in a while\u2014I pulled it up, online; and I read it. I just want to read it to our listeners, just to remind you of the power of our King. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe was born in an obscure village, the child of a peasant woman. He grew up in another obscure village, where he worked in a carpenter\u2019s shop until he was thirty when public opinion turned against him. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18.00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe never wrote a book. He never held an office. He never went to college. He never visited a big city. He never travelled more than two hundred miles from the place where he was born. He did none of those things usually associated with greatness. He had no credentials but himself.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe was only thirty-three. His friends ran away. One of them denied him. He was turned over to his enemies and went through the mockery of a trial. He was nailed to a cross between two thieves. While dying, his executioners gambled for his clothing, the only property he had on earth. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19.00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen he was dead, he was laid in a borrowed grave through the pity of a friend.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNineteen centuries have come and gone; and today, Jesus is the central figure of the human race and the leader of mankind's progress. All the armies that have ever marched, all the navies that have ever sailed, all the parliaments that have ever sat, all the kings that have ever reigned, put together, have not affected the life of mankind on earth as powerfully as that\u00a0One Solitary Life.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>The Christmas season is all about\u2014not just the birth of Jesus\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20.00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014but the coming of Jesus and the reason for His coming\u2014His redemptive work \/ the message of the gospel\u2014ultimately, the cross and the resurrection. Thanks for joining us on the Friday edition. Here it is December. I always think of December as a good time just for reflection\u2014although, typically, not the first part of December. Usually, it\u2019s the end of December when you have a few minutes to catch your breath and kind of reflect on what the year has been. Usually, the first part of the month, you\u2019ve got\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>It\u2019s a sprint. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014you\u2019ve just got so much going on. But this has been a great year for us, at FamilyLife. We\u2019ve been celebrating our 40<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary as a ministry this year. You know, Christmas is on a Sunday this year. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Will your church cancel, or will they have services?\u00a0 Do you know?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>That\u2019s a good question!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Barbara: <\/strong>I don\u2019t know. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>It\u2019s always hard to know what to do, because Christmas morning is such a family time. There are so many traditions that to try to say, \u201cOkay; we want to go to church too,\u201d just feels out of the normal rhythm\u2014I mean, I get that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4.00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes; and I\u2019m thinking of one child in our family who\u2014if I would have said, \u201cYou know, we\u2019re all just going to get cleaned up and go to church first before we get about celebrating Christmas,\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014I think this child\u2014she might have completely split in half. [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>Disinherited herself from the family\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Yes; she would have. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014and said, \u201cI\u2019m joining somebody else\u2019s family for this Christmas.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>In fact, she\u2019s out in the production area of our studio here\u2014Laura. We\u2019ve asked Laura to come in here, recently, a couple of times. So, Laura, would you come into the studio and just explain how difficult it was for you to <em>wait<\/em>\u2014the concept of waiting?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>And while you\u2019re coming in\u2014and Laura, welcome, by the way\u2014welcome back into the studio. While you are coming in, can we just acknowledge that there might be a heredity link to Laura\u2019s impatience that, maybe, somebody\u2014[Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Now, why would we want to meddle in that stuff?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5.00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Barbara, would you like to explain why there might have been a heredity link to this?\u00a0 [Laughter] Do you know anybody else who might have gotten impatient around Christmastime?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>It wasn\u2019t me. [Laughter]\u00a0 I know that! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Laura: <\/strong>Who it was?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Maybe, that\u2019s it\u2014maybe, it\u2019s being the youngest in the family; because I was the firstborn. My mother remembers this\u2014I hoarded my presents \/ I kept them to the side. I opened them very slowly, because I wanted it to last all day long. But Dennis was not that way. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>I wasn\u2019t either\u2014I was the last born. So, I was the one who thought 5.30 was the appropriate time to go open presents on Christmas morning. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Laura: <\/strong>Absolutely. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Before the sun was up?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Well, you know me\u2014morning time is not my\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Oh, yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014favorite time; but on Christmas morning\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>It was your favorite time!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014it was a whole different deal. So, getting up early on Christmas, I was all about that as well. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>There are going to be some people, though, who listen to what we\u2019re talking about here\u2014they are going to say, \u201cYou guys\u2014you are heretics that you wouldn\u2019t go to church on Christmas morning.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6.00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLaura, would you just comment on what that would have done to you if I\u2019d had said. \u201cOkay; Laura, let\u2019s go to church. You can wait another two hours to open the presents\u201d?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Laura: <\/strong>I probably would have cried; because I cried already whenever my older siblings would tease me and be like. \u201cI\u2019ve got to take a shower,\u201d \u201cI\u2019ve got to dry my hair,\u201d\u2026\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Because they were teenagers when you were five. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Laura: <\/strong>Yes; \u201cWe\u2019ve got to eat breakfast.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>So, is there\u2014was there an imposed start time?\u00a0 [Laughter] Did you have a time you had to stay in bed until?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Laura: <\/strong>Oh, I\u2019m sure that we did. I don\u2019t remember exactly what time it was, but I\u2019m fairly certain I was the first one knocking on my parents\u2019 door. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Did you have a routine for going to the tree?\u00a0 Did everybody have to go together?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Laura: <\/strong>We did. Well, we switched it up every single year. It depended on whatever Dad\u2014his creativity. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Whatever he came up with. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Laura: <\/strong>Whatever he came up with. And so, one year, it would be\u2014youngest to oldest\u2014which was always my favorite because I got to see in\u2014I got to look around the living room. I tried not to peek, but it was really hard. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7.00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tMy little five-year-old heart couldn\u2019t handle it. One year, it was oldest to youngest; and that was traumatic. Then, boys wind up first and then girls. You know, he got creative with it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I think what God was doing, though, Laura, was\u2014He was preparing you to <em>wait<\/em> until you were 31 to get married. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Oh, maybe, that\u2019s it!\u00a0 [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Laura: <\/strong>Maybe, that\u2019s what He was doing. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>He was building the discipline in you. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Laura: <\/strong>If only I knew, back in the day, that\u2019s what was happening. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>She\u2019s celebrating this Christmas with her new love-of-her-life, Josh. They\u2019ll undoubtedly come visit us, Bob\u2014I would think they\u2019ll come visit us. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>So, that\u2019s a question. \u201cWhere are you celebrating Christmas?\u00a0 Have you worked it out yet?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Laura: <\/strong>We have. We spent Thanksgiving with my mom\u2019s family at the farm. Then, this year, we will spend Christmas with his family; but we\u2014his family celebrates Christmas Eve. So, Christmas Eve is the time where we exchange gifts and have a delicious dinner. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8.00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLittle Rock\u2019s not too far away. So, we might just hop on I-40 on Christmas morning and pop over to see my parents. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Or just drive over Christmas Eve night, because you can leave at midnight. [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Laura: <\/strong>Right; exactly. Yes! We could be Santa. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You could be there, waiting on the steps\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Laura: <\/strong>That\u2019s right!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014to open presents. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Yes; you and Josh could get in line. That would be a new twist. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Laura: <\/strong>Matching PJ\u2019s. [Laughter]\u00a0 Can\u2019t wait!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Well, we\u2019re laughing about these traditions, but Barbara has created a new tradition for families to help them bring the reality of Jesus Christ into your Christmas celebration. She\u2019s created a number of Adorenaments<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>. They\u2019re ornaments that are all based upon the names of Christ. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe first year was His Christmas names from Luke, Chapter 2, and Isaiah. The second year was His royal names\u2014we\u2019re going to talk about that in a moment. The third year was His Savior names. The fourth year\u2014the names of Christ in some of the most widely-used languages around the world. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9.00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd this year, your new Adorenaments are, actually, not metal\u2014these are globes. They are actually heavy as well. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Yes; they are round globes, and they have the continents on them so it looks like the planet, earth. On each one of the four globes is a name of Christ that reminds us why He came to earth when He was born in Bethlehem. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne of them says, \u201cJesus is the Light of the World.\u201d\u00a0 One of them says, \u201cJesus is the Messenger,\u201d because He came to bring us the message of good news. One of them says, \u201cJesus is the Son,\u201d because He came and was born as the Son of God. And the fourth one is \u201cJesus is the Word.\u201d\u00a0 We learn in John that Jesus is the Word, and He came to dwell among us. So, each of those four names tell us something about why Jesus came and was born in a manger in Bethlehem for us, who live on planet earth. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>I mentioned that this Sunday is the second Sunday in the Advent season. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10.00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSome churches will address Advent \/ others don\u2019t. Advent really just means \u201ccoming.\u201d\u00a0 It\u2019s about a period of waiting and anticipation for the coming of Jesus. Christmas is referred to as His first advent,\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014because there is a second advent coming. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>There will be a second advent. That\u2019s really what this set of ornaments\u2014this set of names that we\u2019re going to talk about today\u2014is all about. It\u2019s about Jesus as our King. We know that when He came\u2014His first advent\u2014when He came and was born as a baby in a manger, He came to serve us; He came to redeem us; He came to deliver us. He was still King in all eternity, but He didn\u2019t walk on earth as the King. He walked on earth as a Servant and as a Savior. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br>But someday, as you referred to, He will come back. There will be a second advent of Jesus Christ. And when He comes back again, He will come back as King\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11.00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014King of kings and Lord of lords. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd the ornaments that we are talking about today are a series of crowns\u2014they are seven crowns\u2014and each of them has one of his royal names on them. We, as believers, need to look forward to that. Just as we have a sense of anticipation\u2014that we were talking about earlier\u2014in the month of December, looking forward to Christmas Day as a remembrance of His first advent\u2014God wants us to live with a sense of anticipation, every day of our lives, as we think about His coming back again. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd when He comes back again, He will not come as a baby. He will come as a King, and that\u2019s what these ornaments help us remember. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And I\u2019ve just pulled out two that Barbara rushed by, because these are just powerful names\u2014King of kings, Lord of lords. It\u2019s only used two times in Scripture. This is not a casual name that was given to Christ. The Apostle Paul used it as he wrote to Timothy, and the Apostle John wrote about it in the Book of Revelation.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12.00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, I want you to just, again, think about that title\u2014King of kings \/ all tens of thousands of those kings who lived and died. This King came; He died; He rose again from the grave; and He\u2019s coming back. There is a second advent that will be spectacular. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Well, if you live in a kingdom, the king is the one with supreme authority. Whatever the king says goes. If Jesus is the King of kings, then, His authority trumps all other authority. We talked earlier this year, on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>, about the fact that we do live as citizens of a different kingdom\u2014the kingdom of heaven. Jesus is the King. Our allegiance\u2014before our allegiance to our country or to our family, even\u2014our highest allegiance goes to the kingdom of heaven. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13.00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat\u2019s why it is good for us to remember, at Christmas, that Jesus is a King. He is our King, and He owns us if we belong to Him. We owe Him our allegiance and our loyalty. Remembering that He is a King\u2014and didn\u2019t just come as a baby\u2014but He is coming back as a King is good for us to focus on at Christmas when we think about all of the different names of Jesus Christ. There are names that refer to Him and His royalty as the King. It\u2019s good for us to remember that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And if you want to read\u2014I bet you, as a listener, haven\u2019t been spending much time here\u2014but if you want to read a spectacular setting that occurs near the end of the Book of Revelation, go to Chapter 19 and look at, beginning at verse 11, where there is a rider on a white horse. And this is the place where the title, King of kings and Lord of lords, comes out. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14.00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s basically a battle between God and evil\u2014it\u2019s the final battle. It is Jesus Christ who is on the white horse, coming to conquer. He is not\u2014as Barbara said\u2014He is not the Suffering Servant who came to be the Lamb\u2014on this particular occasion, He is the King of kings, the Lord of lords; and He is coming to take over. It\u2019s spectacular. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt says in verse 16, \u201cOn the robe and on His thigh, He has a name written, King of kings, Lord of lords.\u201d\u00a0 I think the key question is. \u201cDo you know Him?\u00a0 Do you know the King?\u00a0 Do you have a relationship with Him?\u201d\u00a0 This is going to happen\u2014this is more real than this studio that we are broadcasting from. It\u2019s more real than the car you\u2019re sitting in; or the house that you\u2019re listening to this radio broadcast in; or walking, listening, as you take a walk, on your device. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15.00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThis is sure and certain. This will become reality. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>We have an experience that we both have shared, but we didn\u2019t share it together. I remember being in New York, back in the 1980s. I was there during the Christmas season and there on a Sunday. I got tickets to go see the Radio City Christmas Pageant. It was the last show of the night, and they still had some tickets available. One ticket\u2014that\u2019s all I needed. I went to see it, and it was fun\u2014it\u2019s like a big variety show, like the old TV variety shows. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut I was surprised\u2014and you had the same experience\u2014I was surprised there was a spiritual element to this Christmas pageant at Radio City Music Hall in New York City that I thought. \u201cOh! They know what this is really all about.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Yes; Dennis and I went for the first time\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16.00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014I don\u2019t know\u2014was it the \u201880s, or was it the \u201890s?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I don\u2019t remember. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Barbara: <\/strong>We went and got tickets, and we thought the same thing that you did. We thought. \u201cThis is entertaining. This is beautiful. It\u2019s lavish \/ it\u2019s amazing\u2014it\u2019s fun.\u201d Then, it turned on a dime, when there was a pause in the action on stage and the lights dimmed. All of a sudden, they began to display a nativity scene\u2014a live nativity scene. In came the shepherds and in came the\u2014and they had real sheep\u2014and in came Mary and Joseph. They had the stable scene; and then, down the aisles came a procession with camels, and the kings, and their servants. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe were\u2014I remember I was just as stunned as you were. We were wide-eyed, because we had no idea that this was a part of the program. They went down the aisle, and the music was appropriate. The lighting and all of this\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>I thought I was at church for a minute. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Yes; it felt like church!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Barbara: <\/strong>I couldn\u2019t believe we were in New York City, watching this <em>amazing<\/em> display of the Christmas story in front of us with live animals\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17.00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014I mean, it was spectacular. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And at some point, after they made the turn\u2014I don\u2019t remember exactly how it started\u2014but they began to read a poem called <em>One Solitary Life<\/em>. And I just remember it was a powerful, emotional moment\u2014that, here, in the most powerful city in the world, people were going to stop \/ they were going to recognize who Christ is. And this show, which was to entertain the wealthy, the powerful, and the elite\u2014people from all walks of life\u2014recognized the Savior. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI hadn\u2019t read this in a while\u2014I pulled it up, online; and I read it. I just want to read it to our listeners, just to remind you of the power of our King. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe was born in an obscure village, the child of a peasant woman. He grew up in another obscure village, where he worked in a carpenter\u2019s shop until he was thirty when public opinion turned against him. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18.00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe never wrote a book. He never held an office. He never went to college. He never visited a big city. He never travelled more than two hundred miles from the place where he was born. He did none of those things usually associated with greatness. He had no credentials but himself.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe was only thirty-three. His friends ran away. One of them denied him. He was turned over to his enemies and went through the mockery of a trial. He was nailed to a cross between two thieves. While dying, his executioners gambled for his clothing, the only property he had on earth. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19.00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen he was dead, he was laid in a borrowed grave through the pity of a friend.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNineteen centuries have come and gone; and today, Jesus is the central figure of the human race and the leader of mankind's progress. All the armies that have ever marched, all the navies that have ever sailed, all the parliaments that have ever sat, all the kings that have ever reigned, put together, have not affected the life of mankind on earth as powerfully as that\u00a0One Solitary Life.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>The Christmas season is all about\u2014not just the birth of Jesus\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20.00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014but the coming of Jesus and the reason for His coming\u2014His redemptive work \/ the message of the gospel\u2014ultimately, the cross and the resurrection.
