You know, you are so passionate about people reaching out to others to help them with their marriages and their families. It\u2019s what you do full-time. I\u2019m just wondering: \u201cHave you had people in your home?\u00a0 Do you do Bible studies in your home with other couples?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes; we\u2019ve done it. It hasn\u2019t been in recent years. We\u2019re so busy travelling that the continuity to be able to\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Gets hard\u2014yes.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes, it really does; but yes, we\u2019ve enjoyed small groups in our marriage for a number of years. It is a great way to make friendships, to connect with people; but, also, just to have an impact in other people\u2019s lives because I\u2019ll tell you Bob\u2014there is an educator who is a professor in Pennsylvania \/ Dr. Roberta Hestenes, who coined a term. She said, \u201cPeople today suffer from crowded loneliness,\u201d\u2014crowded loneliness. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt means we\u2019ve got a lot of surface relationships, but no one knows me past the surface. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat happens in a small group\u2014if it\u2019s a safe one \/ if it\u2019s one where couples can be real and honest with each other\u2014I\u2019m not talking about airing dirty laundry, but I\u2019m talking about being honest about where you struggle and where the battles are and, then, finding out you\u2019re not that much different than anybody else around the circle. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tPeople, today, are looking for a way to connect. We\u2019ve got some simple tools, here at FamilyLife, that are going to be a way for you to take the message you are about to hear on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> and apply it in your community. One of them is called <em>The Art of Marriage<\/em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, which is a video event, or it\u2019s a small group study over a period of six weeks. And we\u2019ve got some small group material called <em>The Art of Marriage<\/em> <em>Connect<\/em>. There are a number of books\u2014that you can pick the topic you want to deal with, whether it\u2019s conflict, whether it\u2019s the purpose of your marriage, how to be a husband \/ how to be a wife\u2014\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014it\u2019s very practical. It helps couples really get to know one another, and build some solid relationships, and experience transformation in their marriage at the same time. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>So, back to you hosting small groups in your home. I\u2019m just guessing people, who came over to Dennis and Barbara Rainey\u2019s house for a marriage small group, were like, \u201cI\u2019m not saying anything the whole night!\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>No, no, no, Bob. They just knew us as regular people, who were struggling in various areas just like they were, and we just all got real with each other and developed some lifelong friendships as a result of our time together in a small group. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Well, we\u2019re going to talk more about some of the tools that we have available; but we want to hear today Part Two of a message from our friends, Dave and Ann Wilson, who share your passion for couples getting involved with other couples and being a resource \/ being an asset to help strengthen marriages and families in your church and in your community. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tDave and Ann speak at the <em>Weekend to Remember<\/em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup> marriage getaways. They live in Detroit, where Dave is one of the pastors at Kensington Community Church in suburban Detroit.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And he believes you need to make a dent where you are sent. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>Well, he also believes it\u2019s time for you to be fat, and we\u2019ll hear him explain that in a little bit. But Part Two of the message starts with his wife, Ann. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Recorded Message]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>I love this verse: \u201cYou are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI love that because our marriages are like a beacon of light in your neighborhood, on your street, in your city, in your town, in your state. You\u2019re a beacon of light, and that\u2019s why the enemy is <em>so<\/em> strategic in how he can dim our lights. He will do <em>anything<\/em> to get you to turn from focusing on: \u201cWhat\u2019s my mission? How could God use our marriage?\u201d\u00a0 to: \u201cWhy aren\u2019t you meeting my needs?\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd we go right here. That\u2019s his greatest strategy\u2014to start battling each other instead over here. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>And by the way, it\u2019s really easy to do that because we\u2019re up here, saying: \u201cHey, you\u2019re strategically placed. God wants to use you.\u201d We\u2019ve done this very thing\u2014\u201cWhy aren\u2019t you meeting me needs?\u201d\u2014we\u2019ve done it! You\u2019ve watched <em>The Art of Marriage<\/em>. That was all about that: \u201cI\u2019m not meeting her needs because she has a lot of needs, and she\u2019s not meeting my needs\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>\u2014\u201cbecause you have a lot of needs.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>\u2014just kidding. But it\u2019s real easy to get here focused\u2014what did you say?\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 What did you say?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>\u201cBecause you have a lot of needs too.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>I do not. I have none. [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut what\u2019s really interesting\u2014even about Jesus\u2019 words there in Matthew 5, when it says, \u201cA city set on a hill\u2026\u201d\u2014interesting. This is\u2014three years of seminary gets me this one truth\u2014alright?\u2014learning Greek is this: The word \u201cset on a hill\u201d means strategically-placed location. Jesus is saying, \u201cYou are the light of the world,\u201d which is a whole interesting theological study. God, in Genesis, spoke the world into being by saying, \u201cLet there be light.\u201d\u00a0 Then, Jesus comes and says, \u201cI am the light\u2026\u201d\u00a0 Now, He is saying, \u201cYou are the light, strategically placed, where\u2026.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, some of you may think: \u201cOh, man! I\u2019m in Toledo,\u201d or \u201cWe\u2019re in Detroit because we just random\u2014we sort of ended up there.\u201d\u00a0 No! You step back, and you go: \u201cDid Jesus say we were strategically placed?\u201d\u00a0 \u201cYes.\u201d\u00a0 We ended up on Salem Court. Did we just end up on Salem Court?\u00a0 No, we\u2019re probably on Salem Court\u2014we chose the house \/ we bought the house\u2014but we\u2019ve got a couple beside us there \/ we\u2019ve got a couple\u2014Nick and Pam there. It\u2019s like we have small groups\u2014they\u2019ve been in our house. We\u2019ve shared our testimonies with them. It\u2019s like God strategically placed us. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s a whole different way to look at your life. It\u2019s like: \u201cOh, my gosh! So that means God wants to use our marriage to impact others.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s exactly what we do. We\u2019ll tell you some quick stories. When we first started in ministry, we went to the University of Nebraska\u201422 years old \/ 19 years old, married\u2014what?\u20149 months. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>We <em>never<\/em>, on our radar, thought\u2014when we started ministry at the University of Nebraska with college athletes because we were like the chaplain for the teams\u2014never\u2014we never even had a discussion about, \u201cWe\u2019ll do a marriage Bible study.\u201d\u00a0 We didn\u2019t think anybody was <em>married<\/em>\u2014they\u2019re in college; right?\u00a0 And we find out: \u201cOh my gosh! There are five, six, seven couples that are married; and we can teach.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat did we teach?\u00a0 The only thing FamilyLife had at that time was the manual. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>There weren\u2019t things that you, now, have\u2014<em>unbelievable<\/em> materials they now have. So, we just walked through the manual \/ taught that; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>Then we go to California. We\u2019ve been married two years at that point. And we become\u2014we\u2019re neighbors with a couple, Russ and Yolanda, and they were having marital issues\u2014they were a blended family\u2014so, they were struggling. And we pull out our manuals again. We were thinking, \u201cOh, that stuff we taught in Nebraska, let\u2019s teach it here.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd so, then, I ended up having a small group\u2014I\u2019m 21\/22 years old, leading these women who have been married for years. Sometimes, I felt like\u2014in my head, I\u2019m thinking: \u201cI don\u2019t know anything. I\u2019m just a little kid.\u201d\u00a0 No!\u00a0 God doesn\u2019t care where you\u2019ve been, how old you are, what you\u2019re going through. He wants to use you where you are. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, for us, that was <em>amazing<\/em>\u2014that we were messed up \/ we had struggles, but God still used us. It was miraculous; wasn\u2019t it?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>I mean, you can look at us and say: \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cOh, you\u2019re speakers on this cruise. You speak for FamilyLife. You always had the stuff that could help other marriages.\u201d\u00a0 Here\u2019s what you need to know: \u201cNo; we didn\u2019t.\u201d You are the same people we were in ours\u2014we just had ourselves. We had a walk with God \/ we had the Word of God, and we had some really good tools from FamilyLife. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dave: <\/strong>And all we did was say: \u201cGod put us on this planet to fish. God put us on this planet together, now, to make a dent where we are sent. Where are we sent?\u2014right where we are. So, let\u2019s open our eyes and see what the needs are.\u201d\u00a0 And all we were\u2014I always say this: \u201cWe were F.A.T.\u2014Faithful, Available, and Teachable.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience: <\/strong>That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>That\u2019s what F.A.T stands for. You look for somebody that\u2019s F.A.T. to pour your life into. We were faithful to God \/ we were available to God\u2014just say: \u201cGod, okay; I don\u2019t know what you want to do with us. We don\u2019t even have much to share, but we\u2019ve learned some things. We have some good materials. If you want to use us, we\u2019re teachable. We\u2019ll be used.\u201d\u00a0 And for 35 years, from the second day of our marriage, God has been using us everywhere we went. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019ll tell you why, though\u2014because we were available. We moved into that house in San Bernardino going to seminary. We saw Russ and Yolanda two doors down. They started talking to us. We were like: \u201cOh my gosh! There they are. They\u2019re the ones we\u2019re going to start a small group with.\u201d\u00a0 I discipled their son in high school, worked out in the backyard with him on his little bench thing. It was like, \u201cOh, my gosh! God wants to use me to make a dent where I\u2019m sent for three years in San Bernardino.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br>Then, we moved to Michigan to start a church\u2014become a Detroit Lions chaplain. One of the first things we did at this new church we started going to\u2014we went to the pastor and said, \u201cHey, anybody doing anything for marriage here?\u201d\u00a0 \u201cNo.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cWell, you want somebody to do something for marriage?\u201d\u00a0 \u201cIf you want.\u201d\u00a0 I mean, he didn\u2019t even have a passion for it. He was like: \u201cYes, if you want. What do you want to do?\u201d\u00a0 I said, \u201cMaybe, we could start a Sunday school,\u201d\u2014that was back when there was Sunday school. \u201cOkay; we\u2019ll started a Sunday school.\u201d\u00a0 Sunday school started our church\u2014that launched our church\u2014this isn\u2019t the church I pastor. This is the church <em>before<\/em> the church I pastor. This church\u2014we launched this little Sunday school\u2014right?\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>\u2014in a high school. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tMaybe, ten couples came. It became 20. Then, it became 30. Then, it became 40. We had the biggest Sunday school class\u2014bigger than the attendance on Sunday\u2014because the need for marriage. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Ann: <\/strong>Right; and we used the <em>Homebuilder<\/em>\u2019s<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> material\u2014we got it from FamilyLife. We pulled it out, and we were <em>amazed<\/em> at how hungry people were to know how to make their marriage work. And I think that we forget that the Creator of the Universe, who made the oceans, lives in us. The power of the Spirit\u2014we have that!\u00a0 He talks to us, He communicates through us, and He\u2019s the one that goes before us. So, for us, it was\u2014we were in awe of what God could do. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>Yes, literally; it was just being faithful, available, and teachable\u2014being willing to be used. And God will use you. And I\u2019m telling you\u2014He <em>wants<\/em> to use you. You\u2019re thinking: \u201cI need to learn. I need to learn.\u201d\u00a0 No, you don\u2019t!\u00a0 You will. You learn more\u2014and you know this if you\u2019ve ever led a small group at any level\u2014you learn more leading than anybody ever learns in your group. Am I right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>As you prepare, and you study, and you get nervous and scared\u2014people ask questions, you don\u2019t know what to answer\u2014you grow greater than <em>anybody<\/em>. You want to have a great marriage? I\u2019m telling you\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dave: <\/strong>One of the reasons we\u2019re still in love, 35 years later\u2014I think we still are; right?\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>We are. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>\u201435 years later. [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience: <\/strong>Check this out!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>I\u2019m not kidding\u2014is because every year\u2014almost every month \/ almost every week\u2014we are teaching marriage stuff to people, not just on stages, but in small groups; and it keeps our marriage fresh. It\u2019s one of the <em>best<\/em> things you\u2019ll ever do. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI remember, several years ago at our church, I walked off the stage on a Sunday. One of our guys on staff came up to me\u2014Greg Gibbs \/ some of our people know him\u2014and he\u2019s all mad. He\u2019s mad at <em>me<\/em>. I mean, he\u2019s just really frustrated. I\u2019m like: \u201cDude, what\u2019s going on?\u00a0 What did I do?\u00a0 What did I say?\u201d\u00a0 He goes: \u201cYou know what?!\u00a0 I\u2019m so sick and tired of hearing you talk about you were in Los Angeles or you were in Colorado, speaking at a FamilyLife <em>Weekend to Remember<\/em>; and you tell this story.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI go, \u201cWell, it\u2019s a good story to help our people.\u201d\u00a0 He goes: \u201cYes. You know what I\u2019m mad about?\u201d\u00a0 I go, \u201cWhat?\u201d\u00a0 He goes, \u201cYou\u2019ve <em>never<\/em> done anything for marriages at our church!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience: <\/strong>Ooh!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>I said, \u201cWhat do you mean?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>That\u2019s pretty convicting. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>So, I said to him, \u201cOkay, we\u2019re going to do one.\u201d\u00a0 And I actually said this\u2014I go: \u201cNobody wants to come to hear Dave and Ann speak because they hear us every week. So, they\u2019re not going to come.\u201d\u00a0 He goes, \u201cYou ought to try and find out.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience: <\/strong>Alright. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>Guess what happened?\u00a0 Fifteen hundred people were already signed up months ahead of time. It was like, \u201cGreg is right.\u201d\u00a0 What did that mean?\u00a0 It didn\u2019t matter who spoke\u2014because they are sick of Dave and Ann\u2014they hear us every week. It wasn\u2019t who was speaking\u2014it was: \u201cYou\u2019re going to give us help in our marriages?\u00a0 We\u2019re in!\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe did it. Three years later, we had 3,000 people come. Two different buildings were full of just our church. It was like, \u201cOh my gosh!\u201d\u00a0 It just blew us away!\u00a0 It was like: \u201cThose are the people that are living in your neighborhoods, who are longing for somebody to say: \u2018Hey, Tuesday nights at my house\u2014come to my house. We\u2019ll talk about marriage. We\u2019re going to go through this thing called <em>Homebuilders,\u2019\u201d<\/em> or \u201c\u2019We\u2019re going to go through this thing called <em>The Art of Marriage<\/em>.\u2019\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou know, you are so familiar with <em>The Art of Marriage<\/em>\u2014most of the world isn\u2019t. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>So, it\u2019s crazy that God wants to use you\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dave: <\/strong>\u2014with these incredible tools. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>To give you an example\u2014so, we have this big church; but we had a woman come into the church and said: \u201cI\u2019m passionate about marriage too. In fact, I\u2019m in business. I have a great job, but I feel like God\u2019s calling me to do something at the church with marriage.\u201d\u00a0 And I\u2019ll tell you\u2014that your pastors at your church and people are <em>longing<\/em> for this. So, she came to us; and we\u2019re kind of like, \u201cWhat do you have in mind?\u201d\u00a0 So, we started this marriage mentoring at our church that she really came up with; didn\u2019t she?\u2014she and Chris. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>\u00a0And it is just blown up where we have marriage mentors that are trained; and they, then, take a couple, who is in need of help, and they kind of walk through life with them. So, that\u2019s been huge. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dave: <\/strong>We had dinner two nights ago with Tim and Cathy, who are sitting right there. I sat with that couple in the dining room the other day\u2014all I\u2019m telling you is he has a passion\u2014they both do\u2014he and Cathy have a passion to help marriages. He goes to visit his daughter in South Carolina; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s unbelievable\u2014he would never tell you this. He got: \u201cI want to talk to your pastor.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cWhat for?\u201d\u00a0 \u201cI just want to meet with your pastor.\u201d\u00a0 So, he meets with his daughter\u2019s pastor; and they are doing <em>The Art of Marriage<\/em> in South Carolina because he met with the pastor and said, \u201cYou need to do something for marriages here.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cWell, it costs a lot of money.\u201d\u00a0 Tim said, \u201cI\u2019ll do it.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd God is using this couple to impact\u2014why?\u2014because they know why they were born. They didn\u2019t know\u2014I\u2019d love to tell you a story, but we don\u2019t have time\u2014they didn\u2019t know for how many years?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tim: <\/strong>Twenty-seven years. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>\u2014Twenty-seven years why they were on the planet. They lived the American Dream\u2014did everything everybody says is the dream\u2014and they didn\u2019t know why they were born. Now, they know. And part of it \/ a big part of it is: \u201cWhat\u2019s in their hand?\u201d\u2014<em>The Art of Marriage<\/em>. \u201cWhat\u2019s in their heart?\u201d\u2014helping marriages. God\u2019s using them everywhere they go. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>And one of the things that we have on here is God will use your pain for others\u2019 gain. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience: <\/strong>Alright. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>See, I wrote that one too\u2014that\u2019s rhymed. [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>That\u2019s really true. And for these guys, their marriage went through a lot of pain; but what does God promise?\u00a0 He will take that and make it\u2014He will use it for <em>good<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>Read that passage. This is\u2014I know you\u2019ve heard this\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014powerful truth from 2 Corinthians.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>\u201cBlessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our afflictions, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we are ourselves are comforted by God. For as we share abundantly in Christ\u2019s suffering, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, it\u2019s so perfect in that what we have gone through \/ what\u2019s been painful for us, God will use it for someone else\u2019s gain. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>You know, what\u2019s truly amazing is that most of you know us\u2014especially if you were on the cruise last year\u2014and the only way you knew us was\u2014what?\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience: <\/strong><em>The Art of Marriage<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>\u2014<em>The Art of Marriage<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI don\u2019t know if you\u2019ve ever thought about this\u2014because, when we walked on the boat last year, I made a joke at my church that Sunday. We were doing a series called <em>Overlooked<\/em>. It was a series of all the people in the Bible that were overlooked, but God didn\u2019t overlook them but used them. I, literally, said that Sunday, \u201cWe [are] getting on a plane to fly to Miami that Sunday afternoon.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI said: \u201cYou talk about being overlooked!\u00a0 Guess where I\u2019m going this afternoon?\u00a0 We\u2019re speaking on the FamilyLife marriage cruise with Kirk Cameron. Think people will know who he is?\u00a0 Yes. Dennis Rainey\u2014all these people\u2014does anybody in the world know Dave and Ann Wilson?\u2014nobody.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI even pulled up the website. For some reason, it was wrong last year. Dennis Rainey had my name under his picture on the website. [Laughter]\u00a0 So, I said: \u201cLook at this!\u00a0 They even got the wrong guy!\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, we get down here, and we walk on the boat; and I am <em>not<\/em> exaggerating\u2014the first 50 couples that saw us go: \u201cHey. Hey, you\u2019re Dave and Ann Wilson!\u201d\u00a0 \u201cWho are you?\u00a0 How do you know us?\u201d\u00a0 \u201c<em>Art of Marriage<\/em>\u2014I\u2019ve shown that 20 times at my house.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cReally?\u201d\u00a0 This one guy walked up to me\u2014he goes: \u201cI guarantee my marriage is a 9.8, and I guarantee my wife would say the same thing.\u201d\u00a0 I\u2019m like, \u201cYou memorized it!\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 He goes: \u201cDude, I\u2019ve shown <em>The Art of Marriage<\/em> 50 times. So, I\u2019ve watched your story 50 times.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I was like, \u201cOh, my gosh!\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, think about this\u2014you probably don\u2019t think about this. This is the first thing I thought, \u201cThe worst moment, in our 35-year marriage, the world has seen.\u201d\u00a0 That is the worst moment in 35 years\u2014she was ready to leave me\u2014and it\u2019s on <em>The Art of Marriage<\/em>. [Laughter]\u00a0 And I found Lepine that day\u2014I\u2019m like: \u201cDude, everybody knows us. How many of those are out there?\u201d\u00a0 He goes, \u201c600,000.\u201d\u00a0 I\u2019m like, \u201cOh, my gosh!\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 But think about what God did!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>Think about our prayer that we prayed, on our knees, on our honeymoon night. Did we think that we would ever be in a fight so bad or just that I would have no feelings for Dave?\u00a0 No. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>I mean, this is\u2014I <em>love<\/em> how God does that. When we drove to the studio to shoot that, we didn\u2019t know what we were shooting. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>We didn\u2019t even shower!\u00a0 Watch it next time. I don\u2019t know what it\u2019s for.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cWe\u2019re just going to do this thing.\u201d\u00a0 Oh, that is so God!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>And could God take the pain that you\u2019ve gone through\u2014maybe, health wise or whatever it is\u2014could God use that for gain for other people?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience: <\/strong>Amen. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>Of course!\u00a0 And so, we look at you guys\u2014look, you are an army. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>Yes, look at this. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>God can use us to transform the world through our marriages. And so, I guess what we\u2019d love to do, too, is just talk about that and what that looks like. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>I mean, if you\u2014Ann is so right. If we walked out of here and we went fishing to make a dent where we\u2019re sent \/ we know why. Some of you just realized today: \u201cOh, now, I know why I was born. This is it. God wants to use me and my story.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSome of you have thought, \u201cI\u2019m <em>never<\/em> going to let the darkest part of my marriage ever be exposed.\u201d\u00a0 Well, you can do that if you want; but if you are willing to share it, I guarantee you\u2014and you probably know this\u2014others are going through or will go through what you\u2019ve gone through. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>And there is healing when it\u2019s brought into the light. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience: <\/strong>Amen. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>Totally. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>Every time Dave and I would share that story, there was a part of us that grew closer and closer. There is something beautiful when it is exposed to the light. God begins to heal it. As long as it\u2019s in the darkness, it\u2019s covered; and it\u2019s like God\u2019s light can\u2019t get into it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dave: <\/strong>And I tell you what\u2014the thing I hate about the church\u2014and I\u2019m a pastor of one\u2014is that we all just hide these little secrets. Everybody is fake, and everybody\u2019s got it all together. The people who are un-churched come to your church, and they think, \u201cI can\u2019t go there because nobody there struggles like I do.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, man, I hope you will <em>share<\/em> that pain because others will gain from it; but at the same time, it isn\u2019t just pain. It\u2019s glory to God because there is victory in and through that pain. So, it is the packaging of both. You are sharing authentic brokenness and weakness, but you\u2019re revealing the power of God that saved your marriage. You know, you are so passionate about people reaching out to others to help them with their marriages and their families. It\u2019s what you do full-time. I\u2019m just wondering: \u201cHave you had people in your home?\u00a0 Do you do Bible studies in your home with other couples?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes; we\u2019ve done it. It hasn\u2019t been in recent years. We\u2019re so busy travelling that the continuity to be able to\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Gets hard\u2014yes.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes, it really does; but yes, we\u2019ve enjoyed small groups in our marriage for a number of years. It is a great way to make friendships, to connect with people; but, also, just to have an impact in other people\u2019s lives because I\u2019ll tell you Bob\u2014there is an educator who is a professor in Pennsylvania \/ Dr. Roberta Hestenes, who coined a term. She said, \u201cPeople today suffer from crowded loneliness,\u201d\u2014crowded loneliness. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt means we\u2019ve got a lot of surface relationships, but no one knows me past the surface. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat happens in a small group\u2014if it\u2019s a safe one \/ if it\u2019s one where couples can be real and honest with each other\u2014I\u2019m not talking about airing dirty laundry, but I\u2019m talking about being honest about where you struggle and where the battles are and, then, finding out you\u2019re not that much different than anybody else around the circle. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tPeople, today, are looking for a way to connect. We\u2019ve got some simple tools, here at FamilyLife, that are going to be a way for you to take the message you are about to hear on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> and apply it in your community. One of them is called <em>The Art of Marriage<\/em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, which is a video event, or it\u2019s a small group study over a period of six weeks. There are a number of books\u2014that you can pick the topic you want to deal with, whether it\u2019s conflict, whether it\u2019s the purpose of your marriage, how to be a husband \/ how to be a wife\u2014\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014it\u2019s very practical. It helps couples really get to know one another, and build some solid relationships, and experience transformation in their marriage at the same time. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>So, back to you hosting small groups in your home. I\u2019m just guessing people, who came over to Dennis and Barbara Rainey\u2019s house for a marriage small group, were like, \u201cI\u2019m not saying anything the whole night!\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>No, no, no, Bob. They just knew us as regular people, who were struggling in various areas just like they were, and we just all got real with each other and developed some lifelong friendships as a result of our time together in a small group. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Well, we\u2019re going to talk more about some of the tools that we have available; but we want to hear today Part Two of a message from our friends, Dave and Ann Wilson, who share your passion for couples getting involved with other couples and being a resource \/ being an asset to help strengthen marriages and families in your church and in your community. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tDave and Ann speak at the <em>Weekend to Remember<\/em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup> marriage getaways. They live in Detroit, where Dave is one of the pastors at Kensington Community Church in suburban Detroit.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And he believes you need to make a dent where you are sent. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>Well, he also believes it\u2019s time for you to be fat, and we\u2019ll hear him explain that in a little bit. But Part Two of the message starts with his wife, Ann. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Recorded Message]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>I love this verse: \u201cYou are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI love that because our marriages are like a beacon of light in your neighborhood, on your street, in your city, in your town, in your state. You\u2019re a beacon of light, and that\u2019s why the enemy is <em>so<\/em> strategic in how he can dim our lights. He will do <em>anything<\/em> to get you to turn from focusing on: \u201cWhat\u2019s my mission? How could God use our marriage?\u201d\u00a0 to: \u201cWhy aren\u2019t you meeting my needs?\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd we go right here. That\u2019s his greatest strategy\u2014to start battling each other instead over here. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>And by the way, it\u2019s really easy to do that because we\u2019re up here, saying: \u201cHey, you\u2019re strategically placed. God wants to use you.\u201d We\u2019ve done this very thing\u2014\u201cWhy aren\u2019t you meeting me needs?\u201d\u2014we\u2019ve done it! You\u2019ve watched <em>The Art of Marriage<\/em>. That was all about that: \u201cI\u2019m not meeting her needs because she has a lot of needs, and she\u2019s not meeting my needs\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>\u2014\u201cbecause you have a lot of needs.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>\u2014just kidding. But it\u2019s real easy to get here focused\u2014what did you say?\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 What did you say?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>\u201cBecause you have a lot of needs too.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>I do not. I have none. [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut what\u2019s really interesting\u2014even about Jesus\u2019 words there in Matthew 5, when it says, \u201cA city set on a hill\u2026\u201d\u2014interesting. This is\u2014three years of seminary gets me this one truth\u2014alright?\u2014learning Greek is this: The word \u201cset on a hill\u201d means strategically-placed location. Jesus is saying, \u201cYou are the light of the world,\u201d which is a whole interesting theological study. God, in Genesis, spoke the world into being by saying, \u201cLet there be light.\u201d\u00a0 Then, Jesus comes and says, \u201cI am the light\u2026\u201d\u00a0 Now, He is saying, \u201cYou are the light, strategically placed, where\u2026.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, some of you may think: \u201cOh, man! I\u2019m in Toledo,\u201d or \u201cWe\u2019re in Detroit because we just random\u2014we sort of ended up there.\u201d\u00a0 No! You step back, and you go: \u201cDid Jesus say we were strategically placed?\u201d\u00a0 \u201cYes.\u201d\u00a0 We ended up on Salem Court. Did we just end up on Salem Court?\u00a0 No, we\u2019re probably on Salem Court\u2014we chose the house \/ we bought the house\u2014but we\u2019ve got a couple beside us there \/ we\u2019ve got a couple\u2014Nick and Pam there. It\u2019s like we have small groups\u2014they\u2019ve been in our house. We\u2019ve shared our testimonies with them. It\u2019s like God strategically placed us. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s a whole different way to look at your life. It\u2019s like: \u201cOh, my gosh! So that means God wants to use our marriage to impact others.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s exactly what we do. We\u2019ll tell you some quick stories. When we first started in ministry, we went to the University of Nebraska\u201422 years old \/ 19 years old, married\u2014what?\u20149 months. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>We <em>never<\/em>, on our radar, thought\u2014when we started ministry at the University of Nebraska with college athletes because we were like the chaplain for the teams\u2014never\u2014we never even had a discussion about, \u201cWe\u2019ll do a marriage Bible study.\u201d\u00a0 We didn\u2019t think anybody was <em>married<\/em>\u2014they\u2019re in college; right?\u00a0 And we find out: \u201cOh my gosh! There are five, six, seven couples that are married; and we can teach.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat did we teach?\u00a0 The only thing FamilyLife had at that time was the manual. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>There weren\u2019t things that you, now, have\u2014<em>unbelievable<\/em> materials they now have. So, we just walked through the manual \/ taught that; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>Then we go to California. We\u2019ve been married two years at that point. And we become\u2014we\u2019re neighbors with a couple, Russ and Yolanda, and they were having marital issues\u2014they were a blended family\u2014so, they were struggling. And we pull out our manuals again. We were thinking, \u201cOh, that stuff we taught in Nebraska, let\u2019s teach it here.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd so, then, I ended up having a small group\u2014I\u2019m 21\/22 years old, leading these women who have been married for years. Sometimes, I felt like\u2014in my head, I\u2019m thinking: \u201cI don\u2019t know anything. I\u2019m just a little kid.\u201d\u00a0 No!\u00a0 God doesn\u2019t care where you\u2019ve been, how old you are, what you\u2019re going through. He wants to use you where you are. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, for us, that was <em>amazing<\/em>\u2014that we were messed up \/ we had struggles, but God still used us. It was miraculous; wasn\u2019t it?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>I mean, you can look at us and say: \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cOh, you\u2019re speakers on this cruise. You speak for FamilyLife. You always had the stuff that could help other marriages.\u201d\u00a0 Here\u2019s what you need to know: \u201cNo; we didn\u2019t.\u201d You are the same people we were in ours\u2014we just had ourselves. We had a walk with God \/ we had the Word of God, and we had some really good tools from FamilyLife. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dave: <\/strong>And all we did was say: \u201cGod put us on this planet to fish. God put us on this planet together, now, to make a dent where we are sent. Where are we sent?\u2014right where we are. So, let\u2019s open our eyes and see what the needs are.\u201d\u00a0 And all we were\u2014I always say this: \u201cWe were F.A.T.\u2014Faithful, Available, and Teachable.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience: <\/strong>That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>That\u2019s what F.A.T stands for. You look for somebody that\u2019s F.A.T. to pour your life into. We were faithful to God \/ we were available to God\u2014just say: \u201cGod, okay; I don\u2019t know what you want to do with us. We don\u2019t even have much to share, but we\u2019ve learned some things. We have some good materials. If you want to use us, we\u2019re teachable. We\u2019ll be used.\u201d\u00a0 And for 35 years, from the second day of our marriage, God has been using us everywhere we went. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019ll tell you why, though\u2014because we were available. We moved into that house in San Bernardino going to seminary. We saw Russ and Yolanda two doors down. They started talking to us. We were like: \u201cOh my gosh! There they are. They\u2019re the ones we\u2019re going to start a small group with.\u201d\u00a0 I discipled their son in high school, worked out in the backyard with him on his little bench thing. It was like, \u201cOh, my gosh! God wants to use me to make a dent where I\u2019m sent for three years in San Bernardino.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br>Then, we moved to Michigan to start a church\u2014become a Detroit Lions chaplain. One of the first things we did at this new church we started going to\u2014we went to the pastor and said, \u201cHey, anybody doing anything for marriage here?\u201d\u00a0 \u201cNo.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cWell, you want somebody to do something for marriage?\u201d\u00a0 \u201cIf you want.\u201d\u00a0 I mean, he didn\u2019t even have a passion for it. He was like: \u201cYes, if you want. What do you want to do?\u201d\u00a0 I said, \u201cMaybe, we could start a Sunday school,\u201d\u2014that was back when there was Sunday school. \u201cOkay; we\u2019ll started a Sunday school.\u201d\u00a0 Sunday school started our church\u2014that launched our church\u2014this isn\u2019t the church I pastor. This is the church <em>before<\/em> the church I pastor. This church\u2014we launched this little Sunday school\u2014right?\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>\u2014in a high school. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tMaybe, ten couples came. It became 20. Then, it became 30. Then, it became 40. We had the biggest Sunday school class\u2014bigger than the attendance on Sunday\u2014because the need for marriage. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Ann: <\/strong>Right; and we used the <em>Homebuilder<\/em>\u2019s<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> material\u2014we got it from FamilyLife. We pulled it out, and we were <em>amazed<\/em> at how hungry people were to know how to make their marriage work. And I think that we forget that the Creator of the Universe, who made the oceans, lives in us. The power of the Spirit\u2014we have that!\u00a0 He talks to us, He communicates through us, and He\u2019s the one that goes before us. So, for us, it was\u2014we were in awe of what God could do. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>Yes, literally; it was just being faithful, available, and teachable\u2014being willing to be used. And God will use you. And I\u2019m telling you\u2014He <em>wants<\/em> to use you. You\u2019re thinking: \u201cI need to learn. I need to learn.\u201d\u00a0 No, you don\u2019t!\u00a0 You will. You learn more\u2014and you know this if you\u2019ve ever led a small group at any level\u2014you learn more leading than anybody ever learns in your group. Am I right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>As you prepare, and you study, and you get nervous and scared\u2014people ask questions, you don\u2019t know what to answer\u2014you grow greater than <em>anybody<\/em>. You want to have a great marriage? I\u2019m telling you\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dave: <\/strong>One of the reasons we\u2019re still in love, 35 years later\u2014I think we still are; right?\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>We are. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>\u201435 years later. [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience: <\/strong>Check this out!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>I\u2019m not kidding\u2014is because every year\u2014almost every month \/ almost every week\u2014we are teaching marriage stuff to people, not just on stages, but in small groups; and it keeps our marriage fresh. It\u2019s one of the <em>best<\/em> things you\u2019ll ever do. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI remember, several years ago at our church, I walked off the stage on a Sunday. One of our guys on staff came up to me\u2014Greg Gibbs \/ some of our people know him\u2014and he\u2019s all mad. He\u2019s mad at <em>me<\/em>. I mean, he\u2019s just really frustrated. I\u2019m like: \u201cDude, what\u2019s going on?\u00a0 What did I do?\u00a0 What did I say?\u201d\u00a0 He goes: \u201cYou know what?!\u00a0 I\u2019m so sick and tired of hearing you talk about you were in Los Angeles or you were in Colorado, speaking at a FamilyLife <em>Weekend to Remember<\/em>; and you tell this story.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI go, \u201cWell, it\u2019s a good story to help our people.\u201d\u00a0 He goes: \u201cYes. You know what I\u2019m mad about?\u201d\u00a0 I go, \u201cWhat?\u201d\u00a0 He goes, \u201cYou\u2019ve <em>never<\/em> done anything for marriages at our church!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience: <\/strong>Ooh!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>I said, \u201cWhat do you mean?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>That\u2019s pretty convicting. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>So, I said to him, \u201cOkay, we\u2019re going to do one.\u201d\u00a0 And I actually said this\u2014I go: \u201cNobody wants to come to hear Dave and Ann speak because they hear us every week. So, they\u2019re not going to come.\u201d\u00a0 He goes, \u201cYou ought to try and find out.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience: <\/strong>Alright. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>Guess what happened?\u00a0 Fifteen hundred people were already signed up months ahead of time. It was like, \u201cGreg is right.\u201d\u00a0 What did that mean?\u00a0 It didn\u2019t matter who spoke\u2014because they are sick of Dave and Ann\u2014they hear us every week. It wasn\u2019t who was speaking\u2014it was: \u201cYou\u2019re going to give us help in our marriages?\u00a0 We\u2019re in!\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe did it. Three years later, we had 3,000 people come. Two different buildings were full of just our church. It was like, \u201cOh my gosh!\u201d\u00a0 It just blew us away!\u00a0 It was like: \u201cThose are the people that are living in your neighborhoods, who are longing for somebody to say: \u2018Hey, Tuesday nights at my house\u2014come to my house. We\u2019ll talk about marriage. We\u2019re going to go through this thing called <em>Homebuilders,\u2019\u201d<\/em> or \u201c\u2019We\u2019re going to go through this thing called <em>The Art of Marriage<\/em>.\u2019\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou know, you are so familiar with <em>The Art of Marriage<\/em>\u2014most of the world isn\u2019t. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>So, it\u2019s crazy that God wants to use you\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dave: <\/strong>\u2014with these incredible tools. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>To give you an example\u2014so, we have this big church; but we had a woman come into the church and said: \u201cI\u2019m passionate about marriage too. In fact, I\u2019m in business. I have a great job, but I feel like God\u2019s calling me to do something at the church with marriage.\u201d\u00a0 And I\u2019ll tell you\u2014that your pastors at your church and people are <em>longing<\/em> for this. So, she came to us; and we\u2019re kind of like, \u201cWhat do you have in mind?\u201d\u00a0 So, we started this marriage mentoring at our church that she really came up with; didn\u2019t she?\u2014she and Chris. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>\u00a0And it is just blown up where we have marriage mentors that are trained; and they, then, take a couple, who is in need of help, and they kind of walk through life with them. So, that\u2019s been huge. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dave: <\/strong>We had dinner two nights ago with Tim and Cathy, who are sitting right there. I sat with that couple in the dining room the other day\u2014all I\u2019m telling you is he has a passion\u2014they both do\u2014he and Cathy have a passion to help marriages. He goes to visit his daughter in South Carolina; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s unbelievable\u2014he would never tell you this. He got: \u201cI want to talk to your pastor.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cWhat for?\u201d\u00a0 \u201cI just want to meet with your pastor.\u201d\u00a0 So, he meets with his daughter\u2019s pastor; and they are doing <em>The Art of Marriage<\/em> in South Carolina because he met with the pastor and said, \u201cYou need to do something for marriages here.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cWell, it costs a lot of money.\u201d\u00a0 Tim said, \u201cI\u2019ll do it.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd God is using this couple to impact\u2014why?\u2014because they know why they were born. They didn\u2019t know\u2014I\u2019d love to tell you a story, but we don\u2019t have time\u2014they didn\u2019t know for how many years?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tim: <\/strong>Twenty-seven years. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>\u2014Twenty-seven years why they were on the planet. They lived the American Dream\u2014did everything everybody says is the dream\u2014and they didn\u2019t know why they were born. Now, they know. And part of it \/ a big part of it is: \u201cWhat\u2019s in their hand?\u201d\u2014<em>The Art of Marriage<\/em>. \u201cWhat\u2019s in their heart?\u201d\u2014helping marriages. God\u2019s using them everywhere they go. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>And one of the things that we have on here is God will use your pain for others\u2019 gain. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience: <\/strong>Alright. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>See, I wrote that one too\u2014that\u2019s rhymed. [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>That\u2019s really true. And for these guys, their marriage went through a lot of pain; but what does God promise?\u00a0 He will take that and make it\u2014He will use it for <em>good<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>Read that passage. This is\u2014I know you\u2019ve heard this\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014powerful truth from 2 Corinthians.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>\u201cBlessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our afflictions, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we are ourselves are comforted by God. For as we share abundantly in Christ\u2019s suffering, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, it\u2019s so perfect in that what we have gone through \/ what\u2019s been painful for us, God will use it for someone else\u2019s gain. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>You know, what\u2019s truly amazing is that most of you know us\u2014especially if you were on the cruise last year\u2014and the only way you knew us was\u2014what?\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience: <\/strong><em>The Art of Marriage<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>\u2014<em>The Art of Marriage<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI don\u2019t know if you\u2019ve ever thought about this\u2014because, when we walked on the boat last year, I made a joke at my church that Sunday. We were doing a series called <em>Overlooked<\/em>. It was a series of all the people in the Bible that were overlooked, but God didn\u2019t overlook them but used them. I, literally, said that Sunday, \u201cWe [are] getting on a plane to fly to Miami that Sunday afternoon.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI said: \u201cYou talk about being overlooked!\u00a0 Guess where I\u2019m going this afternoon?\u00a0 We\u2019re speaking on the FamilyLife marriage cruise with Kirk Cameron. Think people will know who he is?\u00a0 Yes. Dennis Rainey\u2014all these people\u2014does anybody in the world know Dave and Ann Wilson?\u2014nobody.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI even pulled up the website. For some reason, it was wrong last year. Dennis Rainey had my name under his picture on the website. [Laughter]\u00a0 So, I said: \u201cLook at this!\u00a0 They even got the wrong guy!\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, we get down here, and we walk on the boat; and I am <em>not<\/em> exaggerating\u2014the first 50 couples that saw us go: \u201cHey. Hey, you\u2019re Dave and Ann Wilson!\u201d\u00a0 \u201cWho are you?\u00a0 How do you know us?\u201d\u00a0 \u201c<em>Art of Marriage<\/em>\u2014I\u2019ve shown that 20 times at my house.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cReally?\u201d\u00a0 This one guy walked up to me\u2014he goes: \u201cI guarantee my marriage is a 9.8, and I guarantee my wife would say the same thing.\u201d\u00a0 I\u2019m like, \u201cYou memorized it!\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 He goes: \u201cDude, I\u2019ve shown <em>The Art of Marriage<\/em> 50 times. So, I\u2019ve watched your story 50 times.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I was like, \u201cOh, my gosh!\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, think about this\u2014you probably don\u2019t think about this. This is the first thing I thought, \u201cThe worst moment, in our 35-year marriage, the world has seen.\u201d\u00a0 That is the worst moment in 35 years\u2014she was ready to leave me\u2014and it\u2019s on <em>The Art of Marriage<\/em>. [Laughter]\u00a0 And I found Lepine that day\u2014I\u2019m like: \u201cDude, everybody knows us. How many of those are out there?\u201d\u00a0 He goes, \u201c600,000.\u201d\u00a0 I\u2019m like, \u201cOh, my gosh!\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 But think about what God did!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>Think about our prayer that we prayed, on our knees, on our honeymoon night. Did we think that we would ever be in a fight so bad or just that I would have no feelings for Dave?\u00a0 No. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>I mean, this is\u2014I <em>love<\/em> how God does that. When we drove to the studio to shoot that, we didn\u2019t know what we were shooting. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>We didn\u2019t even shower!\u00a0 Watch it next time. I don\u2019t know what it\u2019s for.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cWe\u2019re just going to do this thing.\u201d\u00a0 Oh, that is so God!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>And could God take the pain that you\u2019ve gone through\u2014maybe, health wise or whatever it is\u2014could God use that for gain for other people?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience: <\/strong>Amen. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>Of course!\u00a0 And so, we look at you guys\u2014look, you are an army. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>Yes, look at this. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>God can use us to transform the world through our marriages. And so, I guess what we\u2019d love to do, too, is just talk about that and what that looks like. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>I mean, if you\u2014Ann is so right. If we walked out of here and we went fishing to make a dent where we\u2019re sent \/ we know why. Some of you just realized today: \u201cOh, now, I know why I was born. This is it. God wants to use me and my story.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSome of you have thought, \u201cI\u2019m <em>never<\/em> going to let the darkest part of my marriage ever be exposed.\u201d\u00a0 Well, you can do that if you want; but if you are willing to share it, I guarantee you\u2014and you probably know this\u2014others are going through or will go through what you\u2019ve gone through. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>And there is healing when it\u2019s brought into the light. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience: <\/strong>Amen. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>Totally. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>Every time Dave and I would share that story, there was a part of us that grew closer and closer. There is something beautiful when it is exposed to the light. God begins to heal it. As long as it\u2019s in the darkness, it\u2019s covered; and it\u2019s like God\u2019s light can\u2019t get into it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dave: <\/strong>And I tell you what\u2014the thing I hate about the church\u2014and I\u2019m a pastor of one\u2014is that we all just hide these little secrets. Everybody is fake, and everybody\u2019s got it all together. The people who are un-churched come to your church, and they think, \u201cI can\u2019t go there because nobody there struggles like I do.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, man, I hope you will <em>share<\/em> that pain because others will gain from it; but at the same time, it isn\u2019t just pain. It\u2019s glory to God because there is victory in and through that pain. So, it is the packaging of both.
