It will start after college. You\u2019re getting ready for real life.\u201d\u00a0 But if you look in the Bible, just alone, the amazing things that young people accomplished by trusting God\u2014those are the kinds of things we want to be calling young people up to today. And one of the verses that we highlight is: \u201cDelight yourself in the Lord\u2026\u201d Psalm 37:4\u2014that\u2019s our starting place. I guess, for as long as I have known you, I\u2019ve heard you talk about the metaphor from the Psalms that children are arrows in the hands of a warrior\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014not intended to stay in the quiver. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014and that they are to be launched in a specific direction. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And it\u2019s the parents who set the direction \/ they don\u2019t determine the flight. Obviously, you don\u2019t raise your kids to be robots. They\u2019ve got to make their own choices, but God designed those arrows for a distinct, unique purpose. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s our assignment to help our kids find that purpose. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Point them in the right direction. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes. It begins in childhood and goes all the way into adolescence and on into adulthood. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>This week we\u2019ve been talking specifically about kids who are 14, and 15, and 16 years old because those young people are asking a lot of questions about who they are, about identity, \u201cWhy am I here?\u201d Wrapped up in that is: \u201cWhat\u2019s my purpose in life?\u201d\u00a0 And that really gets to the core of understanding that God sent every one of us here with a mission. We are His workmanship, and He prepared good works beforehand that we should walk in them. We just have to find out what those good works are and do them. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You just took the words right out of my mouth. This is one of\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Well, I took them out of Paul\u2019s mouth. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You did \/ you did. [Laughter]\u00a0 One of my favorite verses, Ephesians 2:10, says this: \u201cFor we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe concept of workmanship\u2014I have written in my Bible\u2014\u201cWe are God\u2019s work of art \/ we are a masterpiece.\u201d\u00a0 Whether it\u2019s a teenage boy or a teenage girl, they do not believe they are a masterpiece. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>They do not believe they are a work of art. They have all kinds of self-doubt\/confusion. They\u2019ve got all kinds of voices chirping in their ears, being critical of them. So, as a parent, your assignment is to help your child discover: \u201cWhat is God up to in this work of art?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>We\u2019re trying to partner with parents in that assignment by creating resources. In fact, we\u2019ve created a new resource we\u2019ve been talking about this week called <em>Passport2Identity<\/em>. I know a lot of our listeners have taken their sons or daughters on a <em>Passport2Purity<\/em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup> weekend. There are probably\u2014well, there are only a handful of resources that we\u2019ve heard more about from people other than the <em>Passport2Purity<\/em> weekend. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd we\u2019ve gone to the next step, which is when a young person is 14, 15, 16 years old. They\u2019re in the thick of adolescence and they are wrestling with issues related to identity: \u201cWho am I?\u201d \u201cWhat\u2019s my purpose in life?\u201d \u201cWhy am here?\u201d \u201cWhat am I good at?\u201d \u201cHow do I become popular?\u201d or \u201cHow do I make friendships?\u201d\u00a0 We\u2019ve tackled all of that in the <em>Passport2Identity<\/em> resource. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe\u2019ve been talking this week with the co-creators of this resource\u2014Michelle Hill, who created the <em>Passport2Identity<\/em> for young women\u2014Michelle, welcome back.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Michelle: <\/strong>Thank you!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>And John Majors, who is here, who created the <em>Passport2Identity<\/em> for young men. John\u2014welcome. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>John: <\/strong>Thank you. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>And we have been looking at how a parent can get away for a couple of days with a son or a daughter. A lot of people\u2014when they hear us talk about either <em>Passport2Purity<\/em>\u2014or now, <em>Passport2Identity<\/em>\u2014the first question that a lot of them have is: \u201cWhen is that weekend scheduled?\u201d\u00a0 They think this is an event that we host and they come be a part of\u2014that\u2019s not what it is. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>It isn\u2019t. In fact, John, how would you explain it because you just created this for fathers to get away with their sons?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>John: <\/strong>Yes, it\u2019s a weekend retreat\u2014one-on-one weekend retreat\u2014for a father and son to get away for manhood \/ or for a mother and daughter. That\u2019s really the power of the whole experience. <br><br>I had a friend call me and say: \u201cHey, I don\u2019t really have the time to get away for a weekend. I\u2019d like to do this over a series of weeks.\u201d\u00a0 I said: \u201cDon\u2019t do that! Really, one of the most amazing parts is the memory of the time away together.\u201d So, he took his son away for the weekend. They went coyote hunting\u2014he bought him a big hunting knife. He said, \u201cYou know, I remember\u2014when I had to talk about these kinds of things with my dad, I always felt like I was in trouble.\u201d\u00a0 He said, \u201cBut you made it to where we turned into a memorable experience\u2014something fun.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s what we wanted to do \/ that\u2019s what we tried to do. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>In fact, you had a dad\u2014while you were working on this project, he came by your house. You had the prototype CDs there; and he said, \u201cI want to try this out with my son.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd you said, \u201cWell, it\u2019s not ready.\u201d\u00a0 And he just took it and ran off with it; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>John: <\/strong>Yes; and I said: \u201cLook, it\u2019s not finished. We don\u2019t have the workbook. We don\u2019t have all the components.\u201d\u00a0 He said: \u201cThat\u2019s okay. This is still going to be valuable.\u201d\u00a0 So, they went on a road trip\/ they listened to it. We got him in here, and he told us about it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Review of <em>Passport2Identity<\/em>]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Father: <\/strong>My thought was: \u201cI\u2019m going to have to say, \u2018No!\u00a0 We\u2019re going to listen to this\u2014we\u2019re going to listen to this\u201d; but we would listen to one session and I said, \u201cYou want to stop?\u201d\u00a0 He goes, \u201cNo, I want to keep going.\u201d\u00a0 It wasn\u2019t something that had to be forced on. I truly think young guys\u2014they\u2019re just dying to discuss, they\u2019re dying to talk, they\u2019re dying to share kind of \u201c\u2026what I\u2019m struggling with,\u201d \/ \u201c\u2026what I\u2019m going through.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe only had three sessions on the way back. So, we finished up even before St. Louis. But the whole time coming back, it was just discussion\u2014going back \/ and he would reference something that was said three sessions ago. So, I know that he\u2019s listening\u2014he was pointing something out. He would bring up something: \u201cWell, you remember when he said this?\u00a0 That\u2019s something that I think about.\u201d or \u201cRemember when this happened? That\u2019s something I struggle with.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br>I was kind of overwhelmed and taken aback that it wasn\u2019t like pulling teeth. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe was very willing to discuss things. I think that a lot of guys\u2014they are just desperate to relate. And I think, as dads, we\u2019ve become lazy or passive, and we don\u2019t take the initiative. I confess that\u2019s me, and I just appreciate what <em>Passport2Identity<\/em> has done to kind of open that dialogue for us. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Studio]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And Michelle, that kind of experience can be had by daughters with their mothers as well; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Michelle: <\/strong>Oh, most definitely. I had a friend, who took her daughter through just one of the sessions\u2014the Womanhood Session. She said that what it opened up was just discussion after discussion after discussion. They had a pretty good relationship before; but even after that one hour and then the discussion time, she said it was <em>incredible<\/em>\u2014their relationship. They were just able to talk through more and more issues that they faced. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>And after you\u2019ve taken a son or a daughter through a discussion about: \u201cWhat does identity look like? What\u2019s it all about? How do you move toward independence?\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014which is where every young person is dying to get to\u2014after you\u2019ve talked about their gender and the fact that God has made them, as young men or as young women, and that there are specific gender characteristics that go with that\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And you\u2019ve exposed some of the teaching of the culture and their peers\u2014that this is not some sort of multiple choice or fluid discussion about gender, like the culture is trying to make it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Right\u2014after you\u2019ve talked with them about their spiritual identity and what it means to make their faith their own, you\u2019ve talked with them about their need for healthy relationships\u2014mentors, and peer relationships and what healthy relationships with the opposite sex looks like, and how all of that fits into their identity\u2014the last thing you tackle is the issue of mission: \u201cDo they know where they are headed?\u00a0 Do they know that God has an assignment for them?\u00a0 Are they starting now to think about, <em>not<\/em> \u2018How am I going to live out God\u2019s assignment for me when I\u2019m 25?\u2019 but \u2018How can I start living out God\u2019s assignment for me <em>now<\/em> when I\u2019m 14 or 15 years old?\u2019\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>John: <\/strong>Yes, there is an idea out there that\u2019s pretty popular: \u201cLife will start later. We can do some things now,\u201d and they set a pretty big goal. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Michelle: <\/strong>They set a big goal; and not only that, they set an <em>amazing<\/em> example. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes. Let\u2019s listen to that dialogue and what they shared. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Excerpt from <em>Passport2Identity<\/em>]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Young woman: <\/strong>\u201cDon\u2019t let anyone look down on you because you\u2019re young, but set an example.\u201d\u00a0 That was something that\u2019s always inspired me. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Michelle: <\/strong>This is a story of a group of girls I know who aren\u2019t waiting until they are older to be used by God. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Young woman: <\/strong>A couple of us decided we wanted to do something big for God. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Young woman-1: <\/strong>We just didn\u2019t really know what we wanted to do. Then, when we heard about the water crisis and learned more about it, we knew that\u2019s what God was calling us to do. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Young woman-2: <\/strong>We knew we wanted to do wells, and we thought that would be easier to figure out how to do as younger girls. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Young woman-3: <\/strong>Well, when we first started, we realized that instead of like $700, one well actually costs $5,000. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Young woman-4: <\/strong>So, we got pretty overwhelmed. We thought it would take our whole high school years to be able to raise one well. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Young woman-5: <\/strong>One of the moms\u2014when we told her, she honestly thought to herself that: \u201cThey are never going to be able to do this,\u201d and \u201cI want to be supportive of them, but I honestly don\u2019t think they are going to be able to do that.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Michelle: <\/strong>So, things were looking kind of impossible; but then, God opened a door for the girls to share their vision at a conference. That\u2019s when things changed. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Young woman-6: <\/strong>And we were like, \u201cOh, we\u2019re probably going to raise like $100.\u201d\u00a0 It was just like <em>amazing<\/em> to see\u2014when we counted up all the money\u2014that God had raised $6,000!\u00a0 We were like, \u201cOh, we raised a whole well in one day!\u201d\u00a0 That was the coolest thing. It just encouraged us that we don\u2019t need to stop there. So far, we\u2019ve dug three wells in India, Honduras, and Ghana, Africa. And this time, we actually get to go on the trip and dig the well ourselves. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Young woman-7: <\/strong>Seeing how God\u2019s light through us will affect them in their everyday lives is just the most amazing feeling. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou don\u2019t have to wait until you grow older to do something for God, and you can do something now. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Studio]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Those young ladies formed a group called the Single Drop. It banded them together as sisters. And who knows where that will take them?\u00a0 We had them speak and share at the staff meeting. I think most of us and the staff go, \u201cYou\u2019ll never do it!\u201d\u00a0 We\u2019re just like the mom who didn\u2019t believe you\u2019d be able to do it either. [Laughter]\u00a0 But God delights in taking the faith of children\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Michelle: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014who just think about God in simple terms and say: \u201cYou know what?\u00a0 I\u2019m going to trust Him for this.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThink about your son or your daughter. One of the problems today is we\u2019re not challenging them to a big enough dream. We need to be challenging them to dream big dreams. I think it was D.L. Moody, on his deathbed, who said to his sons, \u201cIf God be God, then, make your plans large.\u201d I think young people need to hear that story. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYoung ladies need to get away with their moms, just to hear that story alone, and be asked: \u201cWhat are you thinking about?\u00a0 What are you dreaming about?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>And they need to know that they can be on mission <em>now<\/em>, as young ladies. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Michelle: <\/strong>Exactly. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>This is not something that they have to plan for in the future. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Young men\u2014they can do it <em>today<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Michelle: <\/strong>Well, if He\u2019s going to answer a small prayer\u2014and we know He answers <em>tons<\/em> of small prayers\u2014think about, if you go to Him and you say, \u201cGod, I want to change someone\u2019s life,\u201d He\u2019s going to answer that. We need to be putting that in these young people\u2019s hearts \/ in their minds; and they need to know that God is bigger. I think, in Christianity today \/ in some parts of Christianity, we squelch the idea of who God is. We put Him in a <em>box<\/em>. So, our youth are growing up with God in that box. We need to let that box\u2014we need to take the boundaries off that box and let our kids know, \u201cGod is so big.\u201d\u00a0 And when we do that, I think we\u2019re going to have a lot more kids doing what Single Drop is doing. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>John, you had a chance to sit down with a colleague of ours, here at FamilyLife\u2014Jeff Kemp, who some of our listeners will recognize the name. His dad, Jack Kemp, was a congressman, he was a pro football player, he was the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, and ran for President. Jeff played in the NFL for 11 seasons and began to see that playing in the NFL was not the mission God had for him\u2014it was just the place God had for him to accomplish his mission. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>John: <\/strong>And we wanted to interview him because we want to help a young person get that idea in their mind. Your vocation \/ what you do is important. God will use the skills you develop, though, to set up the platform for you to lead others to Him. That\u2019s what Jeff started to see. In fact, it was a great interview. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Excerpt from <em>Passport2Identity<\/em>]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jeff: <\/strong>I went to Dartmouth College. I was a free agent into the NFL. I went to the Rams in 1981. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>John: <\/strong>This is Jeff Kemp. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe played quarterback in the NFL for 11 years. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jeff: <\/strong>I was a guy who was walking with Christ when I played pro football, and I was friendly to everyone. I kidded around with guys, but I didn\u2019t tell dirty jokes \/ didn\u2019t laugh at those jokes, went out to eat dinner if they\u2019d go with me; but I wasn\u2019t a beer drinker or partier. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, there were guys who really wouldn\u2019t hang out that much with me and might make fun of me occasionally. But then, when their life was having trouble\u2014their marriage was in trouble, they were about to get cut, or something was wrong\u2014they\u2019d sit down next to me on the plane and kind of confide in me and look for a friend because they knew that there was something I was anchored in\u2014and that was God. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>John: <\/strong>And that anchor in God that Jeff had\u2014he really attributes that to his dad. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Jeff: <\/strong>One of the things my dad did really well was encourage me that I had this identity as a difference-maker as a leader. The challenge was\u2014because he was so successful\u2014I assumed it was because I had to be successful, too, as opposed to my character is as a leader \/ my character is as an influence of others. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>John: <\/strong>His dad, by the way, also, played quarterback in the NFL. He was a congressman, he ran for Vice President and President of the United States. So, you can see the bar was raised pretty high in their family. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jeff: <\/strong>Now, my dad also said things to me like: \u201cYou\u2019re in your right place. God has a plan.\u201d\u00a0 He always reminded me that God is sovereign\u2014He\u2019s the one that shapes things. Really, my identity is not in being a quarterback, or a success, or someone people view as a leader\u2014it\u2019s who God defines me as. Then, I\u2019m able to make a difference in people\u2019s lives. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou\u2019re different if you\u2019re a Christian, but that doesn\u2019t mean you need to act weird or be isolated from everyone. Sometimes, they will isolate you. You\u2019re building up credibility, though; and you never know the day when they may come alongside and trust in you, as a friend, who is not going o say something behind their back, isn\u2019t going to make fun of them, and actually has some answers because it\u2019s clear you\u2019ve got God in your life.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u00a0[Studio]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And Bob, as you mentioned earlier, Jeff Kemp is a colleague of ours, here at FamilyLife. It\u2019s fascinating to be in meetings with him\u2014and not just merely to hear the voice of Jack Kemp come out of Jeff\u2019s mouth sometimes\u2014but to hear the passion of his father that had been planted in Jeff\u2019s heart. Jeff has a tremendous heart for the inner city, wanting to help the poor. That was birthed in Jeff\u2019s heart from Jack\u2019s. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>So, you\u2019re saying that we do have an impact on the trajectory\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Oh, no doubt!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014that our kids will go off\u2014and they are going to be their own kids \/ they\u2019re going to do their own things\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014but we can implant in them seeds of spiritual truths so that, wherever they wind up, they are still anchored in the right mission. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes; and Bob, what we\u2019ve been talking about here has been really helping your child find his identity in Jesus Christ, get his marching orders from the Scripture, and then, be about the King\u2019s business. We\u2019ve got far too many Christians that have got one foot in the world and one foot on the Bible. They\u2019re slipping and sliding and they need to get firmly planted on the Scriptures. They need to be doing what God designed them uniquely to do. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m just excited about what Michelle and John have done here. I\u2019m looking back over the topics that we\u2019ve hit here. We\u2019ve talked about just the whole idea of spiritual identity, about becoming responsible and independent from parents and how that process occurs. We\u2019ve talked about gender identity. We\u2019ve talked about relational identity\u2014how we relate to peers. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tFinally, this one\u2014missional identity and doing what God wants us to do. These are relevant topics for young people today, as never before. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI just want to thank you guys for all the work you put in on this. I know that there are going to be literally hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of young people impacted by this in the coming decades because I think this is going to get used by generations. I\u2019m watching it happen. I\u2019m sending it out right now to my friends and to my own family members and saying, \u201cHere\u2019s your next assignment for your 15-year-old,\u201d\u2014my grandson, who is 15 years old: \u201cLet\u2019s go!\u00a0 Schedule the time. Get away.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd I know what\u2019s going to happen\u2014you guys are going to set up my son-in-law to have a great weekend with his son that would not have been possible otherwise\u2014not that he couldn\u2019t have done something similar\u2014but let me tell you folks: \u201cMichelle and John worked on this for three years. You\u2019re getting ready for real life.\u201d\u00a0 But if you look in the Bible, just alone, the amazing things that young people accomplished by trusting God\u2014those are the kinds of things we want to be calling young people up to today. And one of the verses that we highlight is: \u201cDelight yourself in the Lord\u2026\u201d Psalm 37:4\u2014that\u2019s our starting place. I guess, for as long as I have known you, I\u2019ve heard you talk about the metaphor from the Psalms that children are arrows in the hands of a warrior\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014not intended to stay in the quiver. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014and that they are to be launched in a specific direction. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And it\u2019s the parents who set the direction \/ they don\u2019t determine the flight. Obviously, you don\u2019t raise your kids to be robots. They\u2019ve got to make their own choices, but God designed those arrows for a distinct, unique purpose. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s our assignment to help our kids find that purpose. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Point them in the right direction. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes. It begins in childhood and goes all the way into adolescence and on into adulthood. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>This week we\u2019ve been talking specifically about kids who are 14, and 15, and 16 years old because those young people are asking a lot of questions about who they are, about identity, \u201cWhy am I here?\u201d Wrapped up in that is: \u201cWhat\u2019s my purpose in life?\u201d\u00a0 And that really gets to the core of understanding that God sent every one of us here with a mission. We are His workmanship, and He prepared good works beforehand that we should walk in them. We just have to find out what those good works are and do them. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You just took the words right out of my mouth. This is one of\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Well, I took them out of Paul\u2019s mouth. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You did \/ you did. [Laughter]\u00a0 One of my favorite verses, Ephesians 2:10, says this: \u201cFor we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe concept of workmanship\u2014I have written in my Bible\u2014\u201cWe are God\u2019s work of art \/ we are a masterpiece.\u201d\u00a0 Whether it\u2019s a teenage boy or a teenage girl, they do not believe they are a masterpiece. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>They do not believe they are a work of art. They have all kinds of self-doubt\/confusion. They\u2019ve got all kinds of voices chirping in their ears, being critical of them. So, as a parent, your assignment is to help your child discover: \u201cWhat is God up to in this work of art?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>We\u2019re trying to partner with parents in that assignment by creating resources. In fact, we\u2019ve created a new resource we\u2019ve been talking about this week called <em>Passport2Identity<\/em>. I know a lot of our listeners have taken their sons or daughters on a <em>Passport2Purity<\/em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup> weekend. There are probably\u2014well, there are only a handful of resources that we\u2019ve heard more about from people other than the <em>Passport2Purity<\/em> weekend. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd we\u2019ve gone to the next step, which is when a young person is 14, 15, 16 years old. They\u2019re in the thick of adolescence and they are wrestling with issues related to identity: \u201cWho am I?\u201d \u201cWhat\u2019s my purpose in life?\u201d \u201cWhy am here?\u201d \u201cWhat am I good at?\u201d \u201cHow do I become popular?\u201d or \u201cHow do I make friendships?\u201d\u00a0 We\u2019ve tackled all of that in the <em>Passport2Identity<\/em> resource. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe\u2019ve been talking this week with the co-creators of this resource\u2014Michelle Hill, who created the <em>Passport2Identity<\/em> for young women\u2014Michelle, welcome back.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Michelle: <\/strong>Thank you!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>And John Majors, who is here, who created the <em>Passport2Identity<\/em> for young men. John\u2014welcome. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>John: <\/strong>Thank you. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>And we have been looking at how a parent can get away for a couple of days with a son or a daughter. A lot of people\u2014when they hear us talk about either <em>Passport2Purity<\/em>\u2014or now, <em>Passport2Identity<\/em>\u2014the first question that a lot of them have is: \u201cWhen is that weekend scheduled?\u201d\u00a0 They think this is an event that we host and they come be a part of\u2014that\u2019s not what it is. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>It isn\u2019t. In fact, John, how would you explain it because you just created this for fathers to get away with their sons?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>John: <\/strong>Yes, it\u2019s a weekend retreat\u2014one-on-one weekend retreat\u2014for a father and son to get away for manhood \/ or for a mother and daughter. That\u2019s really the power of the whole experience. <br><br>I had a friend call me and say: \u201cHey, I don\u2019t really have the time to get away for a weekend. I\u2019d like to do this over a series of weeks.\u201d\u00a0 I said: \u201cDon\u2019t do that! Really, one of the most amazing parts is the memory of the time away together.\u201d So, he took his son away for the weekend. They went coyote hunting\u2014he bought him a big hunting knife. He said, \u201cYou know, I remember\u2014when I had to talk about these kinds of things with my dad, I always felt like I was in trouble.\u201d\u00a0 He said, \u201cBut you made it to where we turned into a memorable experience\u2014something fun.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s what we wanted to do \/ that\u2019s what we tried to do. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>In fact, you had a dad\u2014while you were working on this project, he came by your house. You had the prototype CDs there; and he said, \u201cI want to try this out with my son.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd you said, \u201cWell, it\u2019s not ready.\u201d\u00a0 And he just took it and ran off with it; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>John: <\/strong>Yes; and I said: \u201cLook, it\u2019s not finished. We don\u2019t have the workbook. We don\u2019t have all the components.\u201d\u00a0 He said: \u201cThat\u2019s okay. This is still going to be valuable.\u201d\u00a0 So, they went on a road trip\/ they listened to it. We got him in here, and he told us about it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Review of <em>Passport2Identity<\/em>]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Father: <\/strong>My thought was: \u201cI\u2019m going to have to say, \u2018No!\u00a0 We\u2019re going to listen to this\u2014we\u2019re going to listen to this\u201d; but we would listen to one session and I said, \u201cYou want to stop?\u201d\u00a0 He goes, \u201cNo, I want to keep going.\u201d\u00a0 It wasn\u2019t something that had to be forced on. I truly think young guys\u2014they\u2019re just dying to discuss, they\u2019re dying to talk, they\u2019re dying to share kind of \u201c\u2026what I\u2019m struggling with,\u201d \/ \u201c\u2026what I\u2019m going through.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe only had three sessions on the way back. So, we finished up even before St. Louis. But the whole time coming back, it was just discussion\u2014going back \/ and he would reference something that was said three sessions ago. So, I know that he\u2019s listening\u2014he was pointing something out. He would bring up something: \u201cWell, you remember when he said this?\u00a0 That\u2019s something that I think about.\u201d or \u201cRemember when this happened? That\u2019s something I struggle with.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br>I was kind of overwhelmed and taken aback that it wasn\u2019t like pulling teeth. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe was very willing to discuss things. I think that a lot of guys\u2014they are just desperate to relate. And I think, as dads, we\u2019ve become lazy or passive, and we don\u2019t take the initiative. I confess that\u2019s me, and I just appreciate what <em>Passport2Identity<\/em> has done to kind of open that dialogue for us. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Studio]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And Michelle, that kind of experience can be had by daughters with their mothers as well; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Michelle: <\/strong>Oh, most definitely. I had a friend, who took her daughter through just one of the sessions\u2014the Womanhood Session. She said that what it opened up was just discussion after discussion after discussion. They had a pretty good relationship before; but even after that one hour and then the discussion time, she said it was <em>incredible<\/em>\u2014their relationship. They were just able to talk through more and more issues that they faced. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>And after you\u2019ve taken a son or a daughter through a discussion about: \u201cWhat does identity look like? What\u2019s it all about? How do you move toward independence?\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014which is where every young person is dying to get to\u2014after you\u2019ve talked about their gender and the fact that God has made them, as young men or as young women, and that there are specific gender characteristics that go with that\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And you\u2019ve exposed some of the teaching of the culture and their peers\u2014that this is not some sort of multiple choice or fluid discussion about gender, like the culture is trying to make it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Right\u2014after you\u2019ve talked with them about their spiritual identity and what it means to make their faith their own, you\u2019ve talked with them about their need for healthy relationships\u2014mentors, and peer relationships and what healthy relationships with the opposite sex looks like, and how all of that fits into their identity\u2014the last thing you tackle is the issue of mission: \u201cDo they know where they are headed?\u00a0 Do they know that God has an assignment for them?\u00a0 Are they starting now to think about, <em>not<\/em> \u2018How am I going to live out God\u2019s assignment for me when I\u2019m 25?\u2019 but \u2018How can I start living out God\u2019s assignment for me <em>now<\/em> when I\u2019m 14 or 15 years old?\u2019\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>John: <\/strong>Yes, there is an idea out there that\u2019s pretty popular: \u201cLife will start later. We can do some things now,\u201d and they set a pretty big goal. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Michelle: <\/strong>They set a big goal; and not only that, they set an <em>amazing<\/em> example. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes. Let\u2019s listen to that dialogue and what they shared. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Excerpt from <em>Passport2Identity<\/em>]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Young woman: <\/strong>\u201cDon\u2019t let anyone look down on you because you\u2019re young, but set an example.\u201d\u00a0 That was something that\u2019s always inspired me. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Michelle: <\/strong>This is a story of a group of girls I know who aren\u2019t waiting until they are older to be used by God. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Young woman: <\/strong>A couple of us decided we wanted to do something big for God. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Young woman-1: <\/strong>We just didn\u2019t really know what we wanted to do. Then, when we heard about the water crisis and learned more about it, we knew that\u2019s what God was calling us to do. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Young woman-2: <\/strong>We knew we wanted to do wells, and we thought that would be easier to figure out how to do as younger girls. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Young woman-3: <\/strong>Well, when we first started, we realized that instead of like $700, one well actually costs $5,000. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Young woman-4: <\/strong>So, we got pretty overwhelmed. We thought it would take our whole high school years to be able to raise one well. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Young woman-5: <\/strong>One of the moms\u2014when we told her, she honestly thought to herself that: \u201cThey are never going to be able to do this,\u201d and \u201cI want to be supportive of them, but I honestly don\u2019t think they are going to be able to do that.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Michelle: <\/strong>So, things were looking kind of impossible; but then, God opened a door for the girls to share their vision at a conference. That\u2019s when things changed. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Young woman-6: <\/strong>And we were like, \u201cOh, we\u2019re probably going to raise like $100.\u201d\u00a0 It was just like <em>amazing<\/em> to see\u2014when we counted up all the money\u2014that God had raised $6,000!\u00a0 We were like, \u201cOh, we raised a whole well in one day!\u201d\u00a0 That was the coolest thing. It just encouraged us that we don\u2019t need to stop there. So far, we\u2019ve dug three wells in India, Honduras, and Ghana, Africa. And this time, we actually get to go on the trip and dig the well ourselves. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Young woman-7: <\/strong>Seeing how God\u2019s light through us will affect them in their everyday lives is just the most amazing feeling. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou don\u2019t have to wait until you grow older to do something for God, and you can do something now. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Studio]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Those young ladies formed a group called the Single Drop. It banded them together as sisters. And who knows where that will take them?\u00a0 We had them speak and share at the staff meeting. I think most of us and the staff go, \u201cYou\u2019ll never do it!\u201d\u00a0 We\u2019re just like the mom who didn\u2019t believe you\u2019d be able to do it either. [Laughter]\u00a0 But God delights in taking the faith of children\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Michelle: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014who just think about God in simple terms and say: \u201cYou know what?\u00a0 I\u2019m going to trust Him for this.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThink about your son or your daughter. One of the problems today is we\u2019re not challenging them to a big enough dream. We need to be challenging them to dream big dreams. I think it was D.L. Moody, on his deathbed, who said to his sons, \u201cIf God be God, then, make your plans large.\u201d I think young people need to hear that story. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYoung ladies need to get away with their moms, just to hear that story alone, and be asked: \u201cWhat are you thinking about?\u00a0 What are you dreaming about?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>And they need to know that they can be on mission <em>now<\/em>, as young ladies. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Michelle: <\/strong>Exactly. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>This is not something that they have to plan for in the future. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Young men\u2014they can do it <em>today<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Michelle: <\/strong>Well, if He\u2019s going to answer a small prayer\u2014and we know He answers <em>tons<\/em> of small prayers\u2014think about, if you go to Him and you say, \u201cGod, I want to change someone\u2019s life,\u201d He\u2019s going to answer that. We need to be putting that in these young people\u2019s hearts \/ in their minds; and they need to know that God is bigger. I think, in Christianity today \/ in some parts of Christianity, we squelch the idea of who God is. We put Him in a <em>box<\/em>. So, our youth are growing up with God in that box. We need to let that box\u2014we need to take the boundaries off that box and let our kids know, \u201cGod is so big.\u201d\u00a0 And when we do that, I think we\u2019re going to have a lot more kids doing what Single Drop is doing. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>John, you had a chance to sit down with a colleague of ours, here at FamilyLife\u2014Jeff Kemp, who some of our listeners will recognize the name. His dad, Jack Kemp, was a congressman, he was a pro football player, he was the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, and ran for President. Jeff played in the NFL for 11 seasons and began to see that playing in the NFL was not the mission God had for him\u2014it was just the place God had for him to accomplish his mission. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>John: <\/strong>And we wanted to interview him because we want to help a young person get that idea in their mind. Your vocation \/ what you do is important. God will use the skills you develop, though, to set up the platform for you to lead others to Him. That\u2019s what Jeff started to see. In fact, it was a great interview. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Excerpt from <em>Passport2Identity<\/em>]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jeff: <\/strong>I went to Dartmouth College. I was a free agent into the NFL. I went to the Rams in 1981. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>John: <\/strong>This is Jeff Kemp. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe played quarterback in the NFL for 11 years. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jeff: <\/strong>I was a guy who was walking with Christ when I played pro football, and I was friendly to everyone. I kidded around with guys, but I didn\u2019t tell dirty jokes \/ didn\u2019t laugh at those jokes, went out to eat dinner if they\u2019d go with me; but I wasn\u2019t a beer drinker or partier. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, there were guys who really wouldn\u2019t hang out that much with me and might make fun of me occasionally. But then, when their life was having trouble\u2014their marriage was in trouble, they were about to get cut, or something was wrong\u2014they\u2019d sit down next to me on the plane and kind of confide in me and look for a friend because they knew that there was something I was anchored in\u2014and that was God. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>John: <\/strong>And that anchor in God that Jeff had\u2014he really attributes that to his dad. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Jeff: <\/strong>One of the things my dad did really well was encourage me that I had this identity as a difference-maker as a leader. The challenge was\u2014because he was so successful\u2014I assumed it was because I had to be successful, too, as opposed to my character is as a leader \/ my character is as an influence of others. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>John: <\/strong>His dad, by the way, also, played quarterback in the NFL. He was a congressman, he ran for Vice President and President of the United States. So, you can see the bar was raised pretty high in their family. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jeff: <\/strong>Now, my dad also said things to me like: \u201cYou\u2019re in your right place. God has a plan.\u201d\u00a0 He always reminded me that God is sovereign\u2014He\u2019s the one that shapes things. Really, my identity is not in being a quarterback, or a success, or someone people view as a leader\u2014it\u2019s who God defines me as. Then, I\u2019m able to make a difference in people\u2019s lives. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou\u2019re different if you\u2019re a Christian, but that doesn\u2019t mean you need to act weird or be isolated from everyone. Sometimes, they will isolate you. You\u2019re building up credibility, though; and you never know the day when they may come alongside and trust in you, as a friend, who is not going o say something behind their back, isn\u2019t going to make fun of them, and actually has some answers because it\u2019s clear you\u2019ve got God in your life.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u00a0[Studio]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And Bob, as you mentioned earlier, Jeff Kemp is a colleague of ours, here at FamilyLife. It\u2019s fascinating to be in meetings with him\u2014and not just merely to hear the voice of Jack Kemp come out of Jeff\u2019s mouth sometimes\u2014but to hear the passion of his father that had been planted in Jeff\u2019s heart. Jeff has a tremendous heart for the inner city, wanting to help the poor. That was birthed in Jeff\u2019s heart from Jack\u2019s. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>So, you\u2019re saying that we do have an impact on the trajectory\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Oh, no doubt!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014that our kids will go off\u2014and they are going to be their own kids \/ they\u2019re going to do their own things\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014but we can implant in them seeds of spiritual truths so that, wherever they wind up, they are still anchored in the right mission. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes; and Bob, what we\u2019ve been talking about here has been really helping your child find his identity in Jesus Christ, get his marching orders from the Scripture, and then, be about the King\u2019s business. We\u2019ve got far too many Christians that have got one foot in the world and one foot on the Bible. They\u2019re slipping and sliding and they need to get firmly planted on the Scriptures. They need to be doing what God designed them uniquely to do. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m just excited about what Michelle and John have done here. I\u2019m looking back over the topics that we\u2019ve hit here. We\u2019ve talked about just the whole idea of spiritual identity, about becoming responsible and independent from parents and how that process occurs. We\u2019ve talked about gender identity. We\u2019ve talked about relational identity\u2014how we relate to peers. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tFinally, this one\u2014missional identity and doing what God wants us to do. These are relevant topics for young people today, as never before. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI just want to thank you guys for all the work you put in on this. I know that there are going to be literally hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of young people impacted by this in the coming decades because I think this is going to get used by generations. I\u2019m watching it happen. I\u2019m sending it out right now to my friends and to my own family members and saying, \u201cHere\u2019s your next assignment for your 15-year-old,\u201d\u2014my grandson, who is 15 years old: \u201cLet\u2019s go!\u00a0 Schedule the time. Get away.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd I know what\u2019s going to happen\u2014you guys are going to set up my son-in-law to have a great weekend with his son that would not have been possible otherwise\u2014not that he couldn\u2019t have done something similar\u2014but let me tell you folks: \u201cMichelle and John worked on this for three years.
