I\u2019m going to turn right to your wife, at the beginning of today\u2019s program\u2014is that alright with you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> That\u2019s fine with me. I like looking at her! [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Barbara Rainey joins us on <em>FamilyLife Today. <\/em>I\u2019m wondering: \u201cWhat is the most memorable Valentine\u2019s Day?\u201d You\u2019ve had 41.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> No, no, no, no, no.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You\u2019ve had 41\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> If you\u2019re going to ask <em>her<\/em>, I\u2019m going to call Mary Ann! [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I\u2019ll tell you what Mary Ann would say. I just want to know\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> It was the pizza! Or was it the cookie?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> The heart-shaped pizza.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Or was it the heart-shaped broccoli? [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes! [Laughter] The sad thing is that the most memorable Valentine\u2019s Days, in our relationship, all came before we were married; okay? You guys didn\u2019t have any Valentine\u2019s Days\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> \u2014before we were married.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> We didn\u2019t. That\u2019s exactly right!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> \u2014which explains why I don\u2019t remember any. [Laughter] We just didn\u2019t do much for Valentine\u2019s Day.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Let me just head this off at the pass because this is going to deteriorate very fast because you\u2019ve got a good eyewitness here. [Laughter] I was going to\u2014now, I\u2019m not saying this was really smart\u2014but I was going to give her a rose for our first Valentine\u2019s and, then, follow it up each successive year\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> With another rose?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014with another.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes? Is this one of those it-was-the-thought-that-counts kind of things or what?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> It was. Well, it was until Barbara said, \u201cYou know, I would much prefer that you express your love to me the other 364 days of the year in various ways than going and buying a box of chocolates or a cheesy\u2014or a cheesy [Laughter]\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> \u2014\u201cor rose\u201d; yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> So are you saying acts of service is more your love language than gifts on Valentine\u2019s Day?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> More than roses; yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Oh, yes!\u2014in the yard\u2014acts of service. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Or around the house\u2014I\u2019ll take either. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Yes, no doubt about it. The point was that, for her, the idea of now being married 41 years and getting 41 roses was\u2014she\u2019s shaking her head!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes; \u201cNot interested.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> That\u2019s not her deal.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> No.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I think we need to find out what does communicate love to our spouses and then get on that page with them and <em>exploit<\/em> it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I did\u2014there were a couple of things that I did when Mary Ann and I were dating. One year, I bought a box of 32 kids\u2019 Valentine\u2019s cards. I wrote a different message on each one. I stamped it, and I mailed <em>all<\/em> 32.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Nice! You know, that would cost you more now. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> That was back when\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> It would cost me more; yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014postage stamps were\u2014what?\u2014a nickel a piece?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Seven cents, I think.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> She was living with two girls who were her roommates. When she gets 32 Valentine\u2019s, she\u2019s the hit of the house.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Oh, yes!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> But, then, every year on Valentine\u2019s Day, with our kids, we used to have a Valentine\u2019s treasure hunt. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Well, it is a holiday that is a family holiday\u2014first, I think, for married couples\u2014but I think we can seize this day for really doing some great teaching with our children. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat\u2019s what Barbara has grabbed hold of here.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> That\u2019s what you\u2019ve been working on for a while. Where did the idea come from to do this? Do you remember?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> I don\u2019t know that there was a particular idea. I just think it was that I know families talk about Valentine\u2019s. I know that kids are thinking about it because they\u2019re going to exchange valentines in their classes with their friends. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tMy real motivation was to equip moms and dads to be able to talk about it at home in a meaningful way\u2014and to teach their kids the essence of love\u2014where it comes from, why we fail at loving, why we\u2019re not good lovers, and how we can learn to love in a relationship with Christ. It just makes sense to help moms and dads do that as the country is naturally thinking about Valentine\u2019s anyway.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You created 15 paper hearts that fold up like a book.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Like a card\u2014yes, they fold in half like a card.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Alright. On the front, you\u2019ve taken one of the characteristics of love found in \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t1 Corinthians, Chapter 13.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> That\u2019s correct.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> And, on the inside, you unpack that a little bit with some descriptors and with a story.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes, a story.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> It\u2019s all designed so you can take the card\u2014you can share that characteristic\u2014read the story. Then, you\u2019ve got a chain with clips on it so that you can make a\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> It\u2019s a garland. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014a garland. Is that what it is? Thank you. I was looking for the word! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> It\u2019s called a garland. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> It\u2019s a garland that you would hang over the fireplace, or a doorway,\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> That\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014or in the kitchen \/ somewhere on the cabinets.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> It just talks about love. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> And it\u2019s a reminder for everyone in the family\u2014for February 1<sup>st<\/sup> through February 14<sup>th<\/sup> and then, hopefully, beyond\u2014that this is what love is all about. As you add the hearts, one day at a time, through the first two weeks of February, you\u2019re adding to the descriptors of what love is all about, what it looks like, and how we can be more loving.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Now, when you came up with this idea, one of the first things you had to do was dig a little deeper into 1Corinthians 13.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> A <em>lot <\/em>deeper!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> And what stood out to you as you really spent time in that passage?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I\u2019ll tell you what stood out\u2014I got a new wife!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Oh, really?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Oh, no, no, no. It\u2019s not that dramatic\u2014I wish! [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I have to say, truthfully, maybe new\/all-new is\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> A little overstated?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Yes, a little bit.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes, that won\u2019t happen until heaven; sorry.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> But I have noticed a change\u2014in just our relating back and forth with each other\u2014in Barbara. I think she absorbed this from the Scriptures, and I think God\u2019s Spirit is using it in her life. She\u2019s ministered to me as a result of that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Now, you did have to dig in. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> When you dig in, God does a work in your life; doesn\u2019t He?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes. I think what stood out to me was how guilty I was of not being able to do any of these things. I mean, I\u2019ve always known that patience was an issue. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI had a hard time with being patient with my kids. I have a hard time being patient with my husband. I just think, naturally, we want what we want\u2014and we want it when we want it\u2014so that one was not too much of a surprise.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut some of the other ones were more of a surprise as I got into what it really means to be\u2014one of them says, \u201cLove is not arrogant.\u201d I\u2019ve never really thought of myself as an arrogant person\u2014but it means when you\u2019re thinking about yourself <em>first<\/em>. Oh, my\u2014it would have been so helpful.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I\u2019m not talking about the kids\u2014forget the kids for a moment. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Alright; I\u2019m thinking of the kids; but yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I\u2019m thinking about our marriage. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI wish we had had this to start off our first Valentine\u2019s Day, as a couple, where we could begin to center around: \u201cWhat is this love that we\u2019ve expressed to each other? What does it <em>really<\/em> look like?\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes, that would have been good.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014and, \u201cHow can we become lifelong students of what the Scriptures teach about love, and reprogram our brains from the get-go, and begin to express that to one another?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI mean, I wish, at this point, Bob\u2014that right now, we\u2019re looking at\u2014it is, as you said, a garland, where these 15 cards are hanging\u2014but I kind of wish, at this point, we\u2019d had it like a wheel of fortune, where you can spin it. I could get one for you, Bob, and one for you, Barbara, and me\u2014and just take a look at it and say: \u201cYou know\u2014here\u2019s one for you to focus on for the next 24 hours. Just work on this one.\u201d In fact, why don\u2019t I do that for you? [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Oh, you\u2019re going to pick one for me?! [Laughter] You read this one!\u201d [Wife responds]: \u201cOh, yes? You read this one!\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat did you pull off for me?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Well, as God would have it\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014\u201cLove is not irritable or resentful.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Okay.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Are you going to read it now?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u201cIrritable means easily-angered,\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I guess you are\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u201c\u2014which is unlovely. It means without Jesus\u2019 love in your heart, it is impossible to love difficult people. Love doesn\u2019t keep a record of wrongs that can lead to resentment.\u201d That\u2019s a good one because we have to forgive, and forgiveness means you have to give it up. You have to give up the right to punish. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cAll of us are susceptible to anger when tired, or hungry,\u201d\u2014 hungry, Bob \/ hungry?\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Why? Why? What?!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u201c\u2014or stressed.\u201d I\u2019ve traveled with you\u2014from the time we land, you\u2019re looking for a Cheesecake Factory. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I am. There are certain places where you need\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I\u2019m not saying you\u2019re irritable, but it\u2019s important: \u201c\u2026or when we\u2019re stressed; but even then, we must choose love. Love forgives wrongs.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou know, that\u2019s really a good reminder because every relationship must forgive when they have been wronged. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> So you are saying this is what I need to focus on for the next 24 hours?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Well, it\u2019s the one that I pulled off. I wasn\u2019t looking. You saw\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> It was just random\u2014you were not looking. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> It was totally random.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes. It was divinely-ordained. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> It was!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> That\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And do you remember what the story was on this one, Barbara?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> I don\u2019t know; but if you remind me of it, I will remember. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u201cIn <em>A Wrinkle in Time, <\/em>Meg Murray and her little brother travel through time on a quest to find their scientist father who vanished during an experiment.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> This was about the Tesseract. I remember this story; yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Do you want to go ahead and finish the story?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Well, it\u2019s a great little story because it\u2019s a make-believe story about other worlds, and other planets, and time travel, which is fascinating to kids and adults alike. What happens is that Meg is trying to rescue her brother and her father. She is confronted by this creature that\u2019s called an It. It\u2019s very vague who the It is; but it\u2019s clear, when you read the book, that the It wants her to be angry. She gets angry, and she gets irritable, and she\u2019s frustrated. Then, she realizes, all of a sudden, that that is exactly what he wanted her to do\u2014the It wanted her to be angry \/ the It wanted her to be irritable. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, she realized that, if she chose love, it made the It frustrated. That was not what he could handle. She learned that choosing love was a better choice than choosing anger. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen she chose love, her father was released; and she, and her brother, and her father traveled back to time and landed back in their own backyard. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Cool!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> It\u2019s a really sweet story. It is make-believe; but it still is the truth that we\u2019re always better off when we choose love rather than being irritable, or angry, or impatient with other people. Love is always the <em>best<\/em> choice.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You know\u2014I was leading devotions with our staff on 1Corinthians 13, just yesterday morning. I made the statement that most of us think that the opposite of love is hate.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> But, if you read 1Corinthians 13, the opposite of love is self.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes; that\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> It\u2019s really the focus on <em>us<\/em> because all of these attributes have, at their core, a self-focused, self-centered orientation that is the enemy of love. Paul David Tripp, in <em>The Art of Marriage<\/em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, says, \u201cWe were made to live upward and outward, but most of us live inward.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> We\u2019re focused on us\u2014<em>our<\/em> thing\u2014instead of being focused on God and others. That\u2019s what 1Corinthians 13 points us back to\u2014we\u2019ve got to live upward and outward.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes\u2014which is why we have to know Jesus Christ \/ it\u2019s why we have to depend on Him and learn from Him in order to love because He\u2019s the only person who has ever lived who did not live focused on self. Every other person, who has ever lived on the planet, has been absorbed with self, which is why we don\u2019t know how to love well.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo it\u2019s important that we know Him, and that we know His Word, and that we read His Word\u2014and allow it to transform us\u2014so that we can actually begin to, in a very small way, learn how to love well.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> And that\u2019s so important for moms and dads to recognize\u2014first, for themselves and, then, for your children. Jesus is not our perfect moral example, where we say: \u201cHere\u2019s how He was. Now, you try to act like Him.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> But Jesus was\u2014instead,\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014at the very\u2014He is <em>life<\/em>! He is the <em>power<\/em> to do this. I think of the Apostle Paul, in Philippians 3, when he says, \u201cI want to know Him, and I want to know the power of His resurrection.\u201d Paul is saying: \u201cI can\u2019t do this. I\u2019ve tried. I tried to live the righteous life all on my own\u2014did not get there. It doesn\u2019t work. It\u2019s <em>meaningless<\/em>, but I want to know Him and the power of His resurrection because it\u2019s Him living through me\u2014it is the only way I can get this done.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> It reminds me\u2014when we were raising our children, we had a family that lived next door to us, at the time. They had a son who was a very angry child. He was <em>always <\/em>being mean to our kids. I remember, as a mom, it was initially just frustrating to me. Then, I would find myself being angry with him. When I would see him, I would just feel this anger at this child. He was really doing mean things.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> He threw a rock over one of our kid\u2019s heads one time\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Exactly.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014and we\u2019re not talking about a little bitty\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> \u2014it wasn\u2019t a pebble.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014it wasn\u2019t a stone. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt was a rock the size of a loaf of bread.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> It could have hurt your child.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Very seriously hurt our child. He was an angry child. He didn\u2019t have a good background. He was troubled, and he was difficult. But I remember thinking: \u201cJesus wants me to love him. I don\u2019t want to love him! I don\u2019t like him! He\u2019s not nice to my kids; I don\u2019t like it when he comes over to our house!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut I remember\u2014it was one of the first times I had ever done this\u2014I remember, saying to myself: \u201cThis is somebody that God wants you to love. The only way that you\u2019re going to be able to love this person is to ask God to love him through [you].\u201d It\u2019s exactly what you\u2019re talking about\u2014I did not have the capacity to love this child. I naturally loved my children, but I did not have the capacity to love this boy. I asked God to love him through me. I was <em>amazed<\/em>, that within days, I remember that anger was going away. I actually started kind of liking this kid. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt was such a transformation in my heart\u2014I went: \u201cWow! It\u2019s really true. God really can give us the ability to love when we don\u2019t have the ability to love.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And I\u2019m thinking of working for Bill Bright, for more than three decades, and listening to a message he gave over, and over, and over again. He had a number of messages. You sometimes wondered, \u201cBill, haven\u2019t you learned anything different recently?\u201d but he kept going back over certain messages over, and over, and over again. One was about the Holy Spirit\u2014another was about the power of forgiveness. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne of the most memorable messages I heard\u2014I must have heard it 15 times from Dr. Bill Bright\u2014was how to love by faith. It was just what Barbara was talking about\u2014how you love the unlovable by asking God, in faith, to love that other person through you. Bill Bright used to say: \u201cYou know, I\u2019m an introvert by personality. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m not naturally, and don\u2019t come across as, a loving person; but I\u2019ve asked God, over my lifetime, to help me be a great lover of people. I want to be known as a person of love.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat one thought\u2014for me, Bob\u2014lodged in my heart. It really goes back to \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t1 Corinthians 13, where it says [paraphrased]: \u201cIf I speak with the tongues of angels, and I have the faith to move a mountain, and I can do all of these miracles, but have not love, I\u2019m a zero. I\u2019ve missed life\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014\u201cbecause if you miss God\u2019s love, you\u2019ve missed life.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> And I think it\u2019s important that, in that passage, to recognize that Paul is not saying, \u201cIf you lack love, you are somehow spiritually-diminished.\u201d He <em>is <\/em>saying, \u201cIf you lack love, you\u2019ve got nothing!\u201d\u2014it\u2019s <em>not<\/em> that you have less\u2014\u201cGifts, minus love, equals zero,\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Zero; yes!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014not \u201c\u2026equals a little less than the gifts.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Well, there\u2019s a reason for it because, in Galatians 5, when Paul was talking, he described the deeds of the flesh\u2014that is what we\u2019re talking about here\u2014it\u2019s anger, strife, conflict, lust, and all of these things.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> But then he goes to the fruit of the Spirit\u2014which any person, who knows Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, has the Holy Spirit. Paul says, \u201cBut the fruit of the Spirit\u201d\u2014be filled with the Spirit\u2014\u201cthe fruit of the Spirit is\u2026\u201d What is the first one he mentions?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Love.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u201cThe fruit of the Spirit is love.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> So you can know you are a Christian \/ you can know you are a follower of Christ when you\u2019ve begun to notice God is changing your attitude toward some people who are difficult to love. Some of them may be family members. [Laughter] I mean, if you have a big enough family, you\u2019re going to have a child that is an irregular child\u2014he is not going to be easy to love because he\u2019s going, probably, to be a lot like you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Do you think you\u2019ll only have one of those?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Well, if you only have one\u2014it might be a brother or a sister\u2014it might be an in-law\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> There you go.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> I mean, there are going to be multiple opportunities.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> There are so many applications of this that we need to be tutored about how to love. That\u2019s really what I love about Barbara\u2014and what I love about what she has done here\u2014she wants us to get in touch with what the Holy Spirit wants to do in our hearts. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> One of the ones that is tricky is here, near the end, where it says, \u201cLove believes all things.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You read that and you go, \u201cWell, that doesn\u2019t sound smart\u2014to believe all things.\u201d What is the Bible saying when it tells us to believe all things?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Well, simply, it means we always believe God \/ we always believe the truth\u2014we always believe what He says. It doesn\u2019t mean we believe everything we hear \/ everything we see. It means we believe what is true. The Scripture is what is true\u2014God is what\u2019s true. So, it is very simply meaning we always believe in God. The \u201cbelieves all\u201d doesn\u2019t mean \u201cbelieve everything\u201d\u2014it means \u201calways believe.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> The hope here is that moms and dads would hang in their home, here, during the Valentine\u2019s season or throughout the year, this garland that has 15 heart-shaped cards on it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You can take these off, at any point. Barbara Rainey says each one of us is, maybe, a little bit more arrogant than we realize.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> I\u2019ve never really thought of myself as an arrogant person, but it means when you\u2019re thinking about yourself first. Well, it\u2019s like: \u201cOkay; well, I do that. Everybody does that. I like looking at her! [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Barbara Rainey joins us on <em>FamilyLife Today. <\/em>I\u2019m wondering: \u201cWhat is the most memorable Valentine\u2019s Day?\u201d You\u2019ve had 41.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> No, no, no, no, no.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You\u2019ve had 41\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> If you\u2019re going to ask <em>her<\/em>, I\u2019m going to call Mary Ann! [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I\u2019ll tell you what Mary Ann would say. I just want to know\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> It was the pizza! Or was it the cookie?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> The heart-shaped pizza.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Or was it the heart-shaped broccoli? [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes! [Laughter] The sad thing is that the most memorable Valentine\u2019s Days, in our relationship, all came before we were married; okay? You guys didn\u2019t have any Valentine\u2019s Days\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> \u2014before we were married.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> We didn\u2019t. That\u2019s exactly right!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> \u2014which explains why I don\u2019t remember any. [Laughter] We just didn\u2019t do much for Valentine\u2019s Day.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Let me just head this off at the pass because this is going to deteriorate very fast because you\u2019ve got a good eyewitness here. [Laughter] I was going to\u2014now, I\u2019m not saying this was really smart\u2014but I was going to give her a rose for our first Valentine\u2019s and, then, follow it up each successive year\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> With another rose?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014with another.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes? Is this one of those it-was-the-thought-that-counts kind of things or what?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> It was. Well, it was until Barbara said, \u201cYou know, I would much prefer that you express your love to me the other 364 days of the year in various ways than going and buying a box of chocolates or a cheesy\u2014or a cheesy [Laughter]\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> \u2014\u201cor rose\u201d; yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> So are you saying acts of service is more your love language than gifts on Valentine\u2019s Day?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> More than roses; yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Oh, yes!\u2014in the yard\u2014acts of service. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Or around the house\u2014I\u2019ll take either. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Yes, no doubt about it. The point was that, for her, the idea of now being married 41 years and getting 41 roses was\u2014she\u2019s shaking her head!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes; \u201cNot interested.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> That\u2019s not her deal.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> No.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I think we need to find out what does communicate love to our spouses and then get on that page with them and <em>exploit<\/em> it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I did\u2014there were a couple of things that I did when Mary Ann and I were dating. One year, I bought a box of 32 kids\u2019 Valentine\u2019s cards. I wrote a different message on each one. I stamped it, and I mailed <em>all<\/em> 32.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Nice! You know, that would cost you more now. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> That was back when\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> It would cost me more; yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014postage stamps were\u2014what?\u2014a nickel a piece?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Seven cents, I think.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> She was living with two girls who were her roommates. When she gets 32 Valentine\u2019s, she\u2019s the hit of the house.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Oh, yes!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> But, then, every year on Valentine\u2019s Day, with our kids, we used to have a Valentine\u2019s treasure hunt. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Well, it is a holiday that is a family holiday\u2014first, I think, for married couples\u2014but I think we can seize this day for really doing some great teaching with our children. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat\u2019s what Barbara has grabbed hold of here.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> That\u2019s what you\u2019ve been working on for a while. Where did the idea come from to do this? Do you remember?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> I don\u2019t know that there was a particular idea. I just think it was that I know families talk about Valentine\u2019s. I know that kids are thinking about it because they\u2019re going to exchange valentines in their classes with their friends. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tMy real motivation was to equip moms and dads to be able to talk about it at home in a meaningful way\u2014and to teach their kids the essence of love\u2014where it comes from, why we fail at loving, why we\u2019re not good lovers, and how we can learn to love in a relationship with Christ. It just makes sense to help moms and dads do that as the country is naturally thinking about Valentine\u2019s anyway.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You created 15 paper hearts that fold up like a book.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Like a card\u2014yes, they fold in half like a card.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Alright. On the front, you\u2019ve taken one of the characteristics of love found in \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t1 Corinthians, Chapter 13.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> That\u2019s correct.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> And, on the inside, you unpack that a little bit with some descriptors and with a story.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes, a story.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> It\u2019s all designed so you can take the card\u2014you can share that characteristic\u2014read the story. Then, you\u2019ve got a chain with clips on it so that you can make a\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> It\u2019s a garland. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014a garland. Is that what it is? Thank you. I was looking for the word! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> It\u2019s called a garland. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> It\u2019s a garland that you would hang over the fireplace, or a doorway,\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> That\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014or in the kitchen \/ somewhere on the cabinets.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> It just talks about love. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> And it\u2019s a reminder for everyone in the family\u2014for February 1<sup>st<\/sup> through February 14<sup>th<\/sup> and then, hopefully, beyond\u2014that this is what love is all about. As you add the hearts, one day at a time, through the first two weeks of February, you\u2019re adding to the descriptors of what love is all about, what it looks like, and how we can be more loving.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Now, when you came up with this idea, one of the first things you had to do was dig a little deeper into 1Corinthians 13.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> A <em>lot <\/em>deeper!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> And what stood out to you as you really spent time in that passage?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I\u2019ll tell you what stood out\u2014I got a new wife!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Oh, really?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Oh, no, no, no. It\u2019s not that dramatic\u2014I wish! [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I have to say, truthfully, maybe new\/all-new is\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> A little overstated?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Yes, a little bit.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes, that won\u2019t happen until heaven; sorry.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> But I have noticed a change\u2014in just our relating back and forth with each other\u2014in Barbara. I think she absorbed this from the Scriptures, and I think God\u2019s Spirit is using it in her life. She\u2019s ministered to me as a result of that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Now, you did have to dig in. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> When you dig in, God does a work in your life; doesn\u2019t He?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes. I think what stood out to me was how guilty I was of not being able to do any of these things. I mean, I\u2019ve always known that patience was an issue. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI had a hard time with being patient with my kids. I have a hard time being patient with my husband. I just think, naturally, we want what we want\u2014and we want it when we want it\u2014so that one was not too much of a surprise.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut some of the other ones were more of a surprise as I got into what it really means to be\u2014one of them says, \u201cLove is not arrogant.\u201d I\u2019ve never really thought of myself as an arrogant person\u2014but it means when you\u2019re thinking about yourself <em>first<\/em>. Well, it\u2019s like: \u201cOkay; well, I do that. Everybody does that. We all think of my <em>own<\/em> interests, my <em>own<\/em> desires, and my <em>own<\/em> wants <em>first<\/em> before we think of somebody else's.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s just very convicting to realize how unable, in our own power\u2014how unable I am, in my own power, to love well.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I wish we had had something like this\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Oh, I do too! Oh, my\u2014it would have been so helpful.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I\u2019m not talking about the kids\u2014forget the kids for a moment. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Alright; I\u2019m thinking of the kids; but yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I\u2019m thinking about our marriage. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI wish we had had this to start off our first Valentine\u2019s Day, as a couple, where we could begin to center around: \u201cWhat is this love that we\u2019ve expressed to each other? What does it <em>really<\/em> look like?\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes, that would have been good.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014and, \u201cHow can we become lifelong students of what the Scriptures teach about love, and reprogram our brains from the get-go, and begin to express that to one another?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI mean, I wish, at this point, Bob\u2014that right now, we\u2019re looking at\u2014it is, as you said, a garland, where these 15 cards are hanging\u2014but I kind of wish, at this point, we\u2019d had it like a wheel of fortune, where you can spin it. I could get one for you, Bob, and one for you, Barbara, and me\u2014and just take a look at it and say: \u201cYou know\u2014here\u2019s one for you to focus on for the next 24 hours. Just work on this one.\u201d In fact, why don\u2019t I do that for you? [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Oh, you\u2019re going to pick one for me?! See, this is\u2014[Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Tell me when to stop as I pick them up, Bob.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes, you just pick whichever one!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Are you going to point?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You just pick whichever one.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I\u2019m not going to\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Annnnnddd\u2014Stop! [Laughter]\u00a0 Which one did you pick for me? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSee, this is what I\u2019m imagining\u2014because he\u2019s describing this\u2014he\u2019s just pulling one off the chain for me\u2014but I\u2019m thinking of a husband and wife playing this little game and the husband going: \u201cYes, Sweetheart, I\u2019ve got one for you! [Laughter] You read this one!\u201d [Wife responds]: \u201cOh, yes? You read this one!\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat did you pull off for me?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Well, as God would have it\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014\u201cLove is not irritable or resentful.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Okay.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Are you going to read it now?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u201cIrritable means easily-angered,\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I guess you are\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u201c\u2014which is unlovely. It means without Jesus\u2019 love in your heart, it is impossible to love difficult people. Love doesn\u2019t keep a record of wrongs that can lead to resentment.\u201d That\u2019s a good one because we have to forgive, and forgiveness means you have to give it up. You have to give up the right to punish. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cAll of us are susceptible to anger when tired, or hungry,\u201d\u2014 hungry, Bob \/ hungry?\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Why? Why? What?!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u201c\u2014or stressed.\u201d I\u2019ve traveled with you\u2014from the time we land, you\u2019re looking for a Cheesecake Factory. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I am. There are certain places where you need\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I\u2019m not saying you\u2019re irritable, but it\u2019s important: \u201c\u2026or when we\u2019re stressed; but even then, we must choose love. Love forgives wrongs.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou know, that\u2019s really a good reminder because every relationship must forgive when they have been wronged. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> So you are saying this is what I need to focus on for the next 24 hours?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Well, it\u2019s the one that I pulled off. I wasn\u2019t looking. You saw\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> It was just random\u2014you were not looking. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> It was totally random.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes. It was divinely-ordained. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> It was!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> That\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And do you remember what the story was on this one, Barbara?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> I don\u2019t know; but if you remind me of it, I will remember. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u201cIn <em>A Wrinkle in Time, <\/em>Meg Murray and her little brother travel through time on a quest to find their scientist father who vanished during an experiment.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> This was about the Tesseract. I remember this story; yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Do you want to go ahead and finish the story?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Well, it\u2019s a great little story because it\u2019s a make-believe story about other worlds, and other planets, and time travel, which is fascinating to kids and adults alike. What happens is that Meg is trying to rescue her brother and her father. She is confronted by this creature that\u2019s called an It. It\u2019s very vague who the It is; but it\u2019s clear, when you read the book, that the It wants her to be angry. She gets angry, and she gets irritable, and she\u2019s frustrated. Then, she realizes, all of a sudden, that that is exactly what he wanted her to do\u2014the It wanted her to be angry \/ the It wanted her to be irritable. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, she realized that, if she chose love, it made the It frustrated. That was not what he could handle. She learned that choosing love was a better choice than choosing anger. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen she chose love, her father was released; and she, and her brother, and her father traveled back to time and landed back in their own backyard. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Cool!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> It\u2019s a really sweet story. It is make-believe; but it still is the truth that we\u2019re always better off when we choose love rather than being irritable, or angry, or impatient with other people. Love is always the <em>best<\/em> choice.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You know\u2014I was leading devotions with our staff on 1Corinthians 13, just yesterday morning. I made the statement that most of us think that the opposite of love is hate.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> But, if you read 1Corinthians 13, the opposite of love is self.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes; that\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> It\u2019s really the focus on <em>us<\/em> because all of these attributes have, at their core, a self-focused, self-centered orientation that is the enemy of love. Paul David Tripp, in <em>The Art of Marriage<\/em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, says, \u201cWe were made to live upward and outward, but most of us live inward.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> We\u2019re focused on us\u2014<em>our<\/em> thing\u2014instead of being focused on God and others. That\u2019s what 1Corinthians 13 points us back to\u2014we\u2019ve got to live upward and outward.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes\u2014which is why we have to know Jesus Christ \/ it\u2019s why we have to depend on Him and learn from Him in order to love because He\u2019s the only person who has ever lived who did not live focused on self. Every other person, who has ever lived on the planet, has been absorbed with self, which is why we don\u2019t know how to love well.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo it\u2019s important that we know Him, and that we know His Word, and that we read His Word\u2014and allow it to transform us\u2014so that we can actually begin to, in a very small way, learn how to love well.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> And that\u2019s so important for moms and dads to recognize\u2014first, for themselves and, then, for your children. Jesus is not our perfect moral example, where we say: \u201cHere\u2019s how He was. Now, you try to act like Him.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> But Jesus was\u2014instead,\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014at the very\u2014He is <em>life<\/em>! He is the <em>power<\/em> to do this. I think of the Apostle Paul, in Philippians 3, when he says, \u201cI want to know Him, and I want to know the power of His resurrection.\u201d Paul is saying: \u201cI can\u2019t do this. I\u2019ve tried. I tried to live the righteous life all on my own\u2014did not get there. It doesn\u2019t work. It\u2019s <em>meaningless<\/em>, but I want to know Him and the power of His resurrection because it\u2019s Him living through me\u2014it is the only way I can get this done.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> It reminds me\u2014when we were raising our children, we had a family that lived next door to us, at the time. They had a son who was a very angry child. He was <em>always <\/em>being mean to our kids. I remember, as a mom, it was initially just frustrating to me. Then, I would find myself being angry with him. When I would see him, I would just feel this anger at this child. He was really doing mean things.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> He threw a rock over one of our kid\u2019s heads one time\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Exactly.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014and we\u2019re not talking about a little bitty\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> \u2014it wasn\u2019t a pebble.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014it wasn\u2019t a stone. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt was a rock the size of a loaf of bread.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> It could have hurt your child.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Very seriously hurt our child. He was an angry child. He didn\u2019t have a good background. He was troubled, and he was difficult. But I remember thinking: \u201cJesus wants me to love him. I don\u2019t want to love him! I don\u2019t like him! He\u2019s not nice to my kids; I don\u2019t like it when he comes over to our house!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut I remember\u2014it was one of the first times I had ever done this\u2014I remember, saying to myself: \u201cThis is somebody that God wants you to love. The only way that you\u2019re going to be able to love this person is to ask God to love him through [you].\u201d It\u2019s exactly what you\u2019re talking about\u2014I did not have the capacity to love this child. I naturally loved my children, but I did not have the capacity to love this boy. I asked God to love him through me. I was <em>amazed<\/em>, that within days, I remember that anger was going away. I actually started kind of liking this kid. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt was such a transformation in my heart\u2014I went: \u201cWow! It\u2019s really true. God really can give us the ability to love when we don\u2019t have the ability to love.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And I\u2019m thinking of working for Bill Bright, for more than three decades, and listening to a message he gave over, and over, and over again. He had a number of messages. You sometimes wondered, \u201cBill, haven\u2019t you learned anything different recently?\u201d but he kept going back over certain messages over, and over, and over again. One was about the Holy Spirit\u2014another was about the power of forgiveness. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne of the most memorable messages I heard\u2014I must have heard it 15 times from Dr. Bill Bright\u2014was how to love by faith. It was just what Barbara was talking about\u2014how you love the unlovable by asking God, in faith, to love that other person through you. Bill Bright used to say: \u201cYou know, I\u2019m an introvert by personality. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m not naturally, and don\u2019t come across as, a loving person; but I\u2019ve asked God, over my lifetime, to help me be a great lover of people. I want to be known as a person of love.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat one thought\u2014for me, Bob\u2014lodged in my heart. It really goes back to \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t1 Corinthians 13, where it says [paraphrased]: \u201cIf I speak with the tongues of angels, and I have the faith to move a mountain, and I can do all of these miracles, but have not love, I\u2019m a zero. I\u2019ve missed life\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014\u201cbecause if you miss God\u2019s love, you\u2019ve missed life.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> And I think it\u2019s important that, in that passage, to recognize that Paul is not saying, \u201cIf you lack love, you are somehow spiritually-diminished.\u201d He <em>is <\/em>saying, \u201cIf you lack love, you\u2019ve got nothing!\u201d\u2014it\u2019s <em>not<\/em> that you have less\u2014\u201cGifts, minus love, equals zero,\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Zero; yes!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014not \u201c\u2026equals a little less than the gifts.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Well, there\u2019s a reason for it because, in Galatians 5, when Paul was talking, he described the deeds of the flesh\u2014that is what we\u2019re talking about here\u2014it\u2019s anger, strife, conflict, lust, and all of these things.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> But then he goes to the fruit of the Spirit\u2014which any person, who knows Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, has the Holy Spirit. Paul says, \u201cBut the fruit of the Spirit\u201d\u2014be filled with the Spirit\u2014\u201cthe fruit of the Spirit is\u2026\u201d What is the first one he mentions?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Love.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u201cThe fruit of the Spirit is love.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> So you can know you are a Christian \/ you can know you are a follower of Christ when you\u2019ve begun to notice God is changing your attitude toward some people who are difficult to love. Some of them may be family members. [Laughter] I mean, if you have a big enough family, you\u2019re going to have a child that is an irregular child\u2014he is not going to be easy to love because he\u2019s going, probably, to be a lot like you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Do you think you\u2019ll only have one of those?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Well, if you only have one\u2014it might be a brother or a sister\u2014it might be an in-law\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> There you go.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> I mean, there are going to be multiple opportunities.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> There are so many applications of this that we need to be tutored about how to love. That\u2019s really what I love about Barbara\u2014and what I love about what she has done here\u2014she wants us to get in touch with what the Holy Spirit wants to do in our hearts. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> One of the ones that is tricky is here, near the end, where it says, \u201cLove believes all things.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You read that and you go, \u201cWell, that doesn\u2019t sound smart\u2014to believe all things.\u201d What is the Bible saying when it tells us to believe all things?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Well, simply, it means we always believe God \/ we always believe the truth\u2014we always believe what He says. It doesn\u2019t mean we believe everything we hear \/ everything we see. It means we believe what is true. The Scripture is what is true\u2014God is what\u2019s true. So, it is very simply meaning we always believe in God. The \u201cbelieves all\u201d doesn\u2019t mean \u201cbelieve everything\u201d\u2014it means \u201calways believe.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> The hope here is that moms and dads would hang in their home, here, during the Valentine\u2019s season or throughout the year, this garland that has 15 heart-shaped cards on it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You can take these off, at any point. It would not hurt to go through this more than once; don\u2019t you think?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> I think it might be a good idea to do it more than once, actually. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Oh, my goodness! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> It would have probably taken our family once a month, forever, maybe.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Yes. It might not be bad, after you go through the 14 days leading up to Valentine\u2019s Day, to then begin to go through them, one a month\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014and just review it. Talk about, as a family, how you can do a better job of exhibiting this to one another.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes, but just keep in mind that, like you said, one of these days, one of your kids is going to come up to you and say, \u201cMommy\/Daddy, what about this one?!\u201d [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Nothing like a little accountability.
