I was like the older brother in the prodigal son, \u201cWhy are you celebrating that he\u2019s coming home when, here, I have been so faithful this whole time?\u201d God had to cure me of my self-righteousness and my pride. When God showed me that I was just as much of a sinner as he was, I had <em>compassion<\/em> on him.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> This is <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> for Wednesday, January 20<sup>th<\/sup>. The subject we\u2019re talking about this week is an issue that a lot of couples have had to face in their marriage relationship. What I will say to the guys is: \u201cIf this is an issue in your life, then I think there are three things you need to do: \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cFirst, you need to get with God. You need to confess to Him that what you\u2019re doing is a sin against <em>Him<\/em>\u2014that looking at pornography is something that is a <em>violation<\/em> of God\u2019s design for marriage and for us, as human beings.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen second, I will say: \u201cYou need to get with a friend \/ somebody you trust, who can hold you accountable to this. And sometime, in the next seven days, get with that friend\u2014confess what\u2019s going on and ask him to hold you accountable.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut then I say there\u2019s a third thing you\u2019ve got to do. I say, \u201cThis is the hardest of all.\u201d I say: \u201cSometime, in the next 30 days, you\u2019ve got to sit down with your wife. You\u2019ve got to say, \u2018I have to tell you something.\u2019\u201d I say, \u201cI don\u2019t know a guy, who has gotten free from this issue, until he\u2019s taken that step.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, I\u2019ve had some guys come up to me and say: \u201cIf I do that in my marriage, there will be a volcanic eruption. I don\u2019t know if we\u2019ll recover from that moment.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m just curious because I\u2019ve asked myself, Dennis: \u201cAm I sending guys into the end of their marriage by recommending that they confess to their spouse what\u2019s going on?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>No, I think that, if they\u2019re tied into a good church and have some meaningful relationships in that church \/ some people that will walk through this valley with them, because it\u2019s not going to be a short valley. Men who get caught or men who come clean in the midst of dealing with pornography wish there was a switch you could walk to on the wall, flip it, and move beyond it; but it\u2019s going to take a while to get beyond it. But there is hope. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think that anyone, who\u2019s listening to us and has been listening to us this week on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>\u2014this ought to be a <em>severe<\/em> warning to every man <em>or<\/em> woman who would dabble in pornography. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think a part of what has made this story of dealing with pornography so helpful is\u2014we\u2019ve had a couple with us who have been extremely <em>real<\/em>. They have allowed us to peer in to their marriage \/ into their lives\u2014as a husband, as a wife, as a mom, as a dad. I just appreciate Craig and Jen Ferguson for allowing us to do that. Welcome back to <em>Family Life Today<\/em>.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jen:<\/strong> Thank you so much.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Craig:<\/strong> Yes; thank you for having us.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> You guys have now been married coming up on 16 years. You have two daughters\u2014an 11-year-old \/ a 9-year-old. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou write in your book that you haven\u2019t totally moved passed this, but you\u2019re in process\u2014that there\u2014I forget exactly how you say it, here on the back. I just want to read this\u2014it says: \u201cWe\u2019re happily married and thankful for God\u2019s ongoing work in our lives. There is hope for a couple who are experiencing the devastation of pornography.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jen: <\/strong>There\u2019s always hope. I think, for so long in my life, I viewed hope as something that I have after I\u2019ve resolved all my problems. What I realized in this walk\u2014if I don\u2019t have hope in the middle of the storm, then, I\u2019m just going to drown. One of the verses that was <em>so<\/em> powerful to me was in Hebrews, Chapter 6\u2014in Hebrews, Chapter 6, he is talking about how we can always flee to Him for refuge. In verse 18 it says, \u201cTherefore we who have fled to Him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAs a wife, I did\u2014we made rules\u2014we said: \u201cOkay we\u2019re going to turn the computer around so that, when I walk in the room, I can see. Don\u2019t have the study door closed. Make sure you have a quiet time every day. Go to your counseling. Don\u2019t clear your history.\u201d I would just <em>exhaust<\/em> myself checking up after him. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen you have two little kids, and a house to manage, and other volunteer opportunities, you just don\u2019t have the capacity. Why?\u2014because God didn\u2019t create <em>you<\/em> to have that capacity.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I\u2019ve got to stop you there because I\u2019m sitting here\u2014I\u2019m just sitting here, thinking, \u201cWhat kind of industry do you work in?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Craig:<\/strong> The tech industry.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> You\u2019re <em>surrounded<\/em> by screens\u2014everywhere.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Craig: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> If we put filters, you\u2019d know how to get passed them; wouldn\u2019t you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Craig:<\/strong> Sure. If I didn\u2019t, I\u2019d figure it out.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> See, I\u2019m listening to what you\u2019re saying. Jen, as a woman\u2014I can\u2019t imagine how a woman would feel\u2014but it makes sense that they\u2019d want to control everything and say, \u201cLet\u2019s get those filters and doors open.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe actually had a couple, here on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>\u2014you would have no way of knowing this\u2014but it was a great story of redemption, just like yours. A bit different\u2014this guy actually lost his job as a result of his pornography addiction. They literally took away every screen \/ every screen in his life; and he went to work for, I think, Home Depot, where there were <em>no<\/em> screens. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Right. Where he couldn\u2019t travel and he didn\u2019t have a computer access; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Yes. Two years later, there was the beginning \/ the vestige of hope that he had rebuilt enough trust to move forward in their marriage\u2014and, today, has a great story of what God did in his life \/ her life\u2014but it really was a come-to-Jesus moment; wasn\u2019t it?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jen:<\/strong> Right. It was a come-to-Jesus moment for me, just as it was for him, because God had to say to me: \u201cJen, you\u2019re <em>not<\/em> the savior. You don\u2019t get to heal him\u2014that\u2019s My job.\u201d God lead me through this process of \u201cHow do I still have hope when he\u2019s still sinning in this sexual way?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe first thing was that my sin is no different than his sin; and my exceeding my role, as his wife, is a sin because I\u2019m trying to control and take God\u2019s place. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo that was number one\u2014God had to say, \u201cStop trying to be a savior, and let Me do My job.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd number two was: \u201cGet off your high horse.\u201d I was kind of like the older brother in the prodigal son, \u201cWhy are you celebrating that he\u2019s coming home when, here, I\u2019ve been so faithful this whole time?\u201d So God had to cure me of my self-righteousness and my pride. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe third one was to just realize pornography is a hole-filler. I have had my share of hole-fillers too\u2014I\u2019ve turned to food \/ I\u2019ve turned to shopping\u2014all of it is <em>idolatry<\/em>. When God showed me that I was just as much of a sinner as he was, I had <em>compassion<\/em> on him. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt made the fear of the unknown\u2014because I\u2019d be like: \u201cOh, what if he sins again? What if he looks at porn? What if the world comes crashing down and our ministry\u2019s over?\u201d and everything. God had to just say: \u201cStop! Take today for what is today. Is he walking in victory today? Praise Me for that! Pray the armor of God over your family. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tTrust Me to go before you. Keep turning to the light,\u201d\u2014because, whenever I would bring out my fear and my controlling, it would just make him shut down because then he feels disrespected, and not loved, and that I don\u2019t trust him. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne of you has to make the decision to <em>start<\/em> trusting. I had to start trusting that he wouldn\u2019t look at porn. He had to start trusting me that I wasn\u2019t going to treat him like a kid. So \u201cWho\u2019s going to start first?\u201d It might as well be <em>you<\/em> because you\u2019re both in this together.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Craig, let me take you back to that volcano\u2014that I talk to men about\u2014that may go off if they confess. A lot of guys are saying, \u201cIf I told my wife\u2026\u201d \/ they hear your story and say: \u201cIf I came clean with <em>my<\/em> wife, she would <em>pack<\/em> the bags. Our marriage would be over!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Craig:<\/strong> Yes; that is a risk, right, that people have to reconcile with. What I was thinking about, as you were saying that, is\u2014a volcano is an extremely destructive event that you cannot control\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014but what happens after the volcano and how God restores that\u2014I mean, some of the most fertile land you can plant stuff in is volcanic ash. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think, cognitively, I didn\u2019t really go through, \u201cOkay; if I tell Jen, then she could leave,\u201d or \u201c\u2026she\u2019s going to leave.\u201d There were probably moments that I did think about that; but we keep going back to relationship\u2014and what relationship is\u2014and relationship is not about rules. Relationship is about being honest, and open, and transparent, and loving one another. God didn\u2019t want to give us a bunch of rules\u2014He only gave us one to begin with\u2014\u201cDon\u2019t eat from that tree.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Craig:<\/strong> It just seemed like we were the ones, who were saying: \u201cWe want more rules,\u201d \u201cWe want more rules,\u201d \u201cWe want more rules.\u201d So He says: \u201cFine. You want more rules? I\u2019ll give you six hundred and forty-some-odd that you\u2019re not going to be able to do until the very culmination of: \u2018Okay; just believe and <em>accept<\/em> the gift that I\u2019m giving you.\u2019\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tGod wants relationship with us. He wants us to have relationship with one another. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tMarriage is the manifestation of the relationship between Christ and the church. He uses that imagery on purpose\u2014it\u2019s very intentional. He wants us to be intentional with one another in that you <em>can\u2019t<\/em> do that without being honest. Being honest requires risk\u2014it could be bad \/ there could be separation. There\u2019s going to be hurt, and there\u2019s going to be pain associated with that\u2014but at the end of that\u2014if you invest the time and if you <em>persevere<\/em> through that time\u2014what\u2019s on the other side of that is absolutely <em>amazing<\/em>. It\u2019s\u2014I would venture that\u2014if you have a spouse, who\u2019s engaging in pornography and is not honest with their wife or their husband\u2014their relationship is <em>not<\/em> what it can be; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> That\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Craig: <\/strong>So to get in on the other side of that is something they could possibly not even imagine at that point.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Your story reminded me of a couple of things we teach at the <em>Weekend to Remember<\/em> marriage getaway. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe, first of all, teach that: \u201cYour spouse is a gift from God and that God knows what He\u2019s doing when He brings two people together,\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Craig: <\/strong>Amen.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014and you actually have a chapter titled this. The other thing we teach is: \u201cYour spouse is not your enemy.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAs I read your story\u2014and now, over the past couple of broadcasts, as I\u2019ve listened to it in person\u2014I have to look at you, Craig, and go\u2014I was going to say, \u201cIf you wanted to be addicted to pornography, you married the wrong woman [Laughter] because this woman, across the table from you, is tenacious.\u201d It\u2019s not that she is able to control you to keep you from getting away with something because you know, full well, you can get away with what you want to get away with.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Craig: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> She is a picture of God\u2019s love for you\u2014to love you out of your solitude \/ out of the safety of your isolation\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014out of the lack of confidence of wanting a real relationship with a real person. I\u2019ve just got to say: \u201cI know you\u2019ve been married about 16 years right now. I can tell you, from having been married 43 years to a very <em>strong<\/em> woman too\u2014the <em>best<\/em> is yet to be.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Craig: <\/strong>That\u2019s good!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: \u201c<\/strong>I mean, you have <em>no<\/em> idea how God wants to use you two in your children\u2019s lives, in the lives of other couples as you do the dance; and you\u2019re going to step on one another\u2019s toes when you do the dance. But if you keep dancing\u2014and don\u2019t lose hope and keep building the trust\u2014then there\u2019s a great story to be told here.\u201d And you guys are telling it!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I just want to know, Craig: \u201cWhat\u2019s different today in terms of the temptation, and why is it that you\u2019re less susceptible to the temptation today than you were?\u201d \u201cHow do guys get out of this?\u201d\u2014I guess is the question I\u2019m asking.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Besides putting your name on a book, <em>Pure Eyes, Clean Heart<\/em>. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> A little accountability there.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Just to be honest about this\u2014when you <em>really<\/em> came clean was in the process of writing this book!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Craig:<\/strong> Absolutely; yes. To answer your question, it\u2019s not relying on me\u2014I had to give that up. I had to realize that I had to truly rely on God. So, when the temptation comes, I turn to Him \/ I turn to Jen. When I feel my life getting out of control \/ when I feel the stress of work getting out of control, I will go to Jen and say: \u201cLook; I\u2019m really stressed out. I could use your prayer.\u201d I do have a group of guys that I meet with regularly, and they know about my struggles. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo for me\u2014ultimately, it\u2019s running to God. And number two\u2014it\u2019s engaging with my partner that God provided for me, and <em>relying<\/em> on her, and really depending upon her like she depends on <em>me<\/em>.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Speak to this\u2014she\u2019s really dangerous; isn\u2019t she?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Craig:<\/strong> Yes! [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I don\u2019t want to turn you into a football coach because you\u2019re a woman; okay?\u2014not that a woman couldn\u2019t coach a football team\u2014but I do want to turn you into a coach for a <em>wife<\/em>. I want you to do your best job of speaking into her life\u2014she\u2019s married to a man who\u2019s disappointed her\u2014maybe it\u2019s not pornography\u2014maybe it\u2019s drugs, it\u2019s alcohol, it\u2019s women, it\u2019s being flirtatious. It\u2019s just tough; there\u2019s nothing pretty about what\u2019s taking place. Speak to that woman, right now, with the kind of courage she needs to have to face the future.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jen: <\/strong>I just want you to know that you are incredibly loved by God. When it seems like the man who is supposed to love and take care of you forever is falling down on his job, you have a <em>God<\/em> who will never fail you. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAll of your hopes, all of your dreams, all of your worries, and your fears and anxiety\u2014He\u2019s holding them right now. You are not alone. You are not worthy of this treatment; you didn\u2019t do anything to deserve this. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSociety tells you that: \u201cIf you look better\u2026\u201d \u201cIf you were thinner\u2026\u201d \u201cIf you had this job or you made that amount of money\u2026\u201d or \u201cIf you were this kind of mom\u2026\u201d\u2014then \u201c\u2026you\u2019d be fully accepted.\u201d I want you to know that that\u2019s a lie! You\u2019re already accepted by Jesus, and He died on the cross so that He could accept you <em>every<\/em> single day. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI just want you to come before Him, right now, with everything you have and just lay it down because I have lived a life of trying to control everything to protect myself, and it doesn\u2019t work! My encouragement to you is to bring it all to your Father, who loves you, and who sees you, and who knows <em>you<\/em> inside out. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBring it to <em>Him<\/em>. Then sit at His feet, and feel His love, and let Him empower you and equip you. Take it day by day because, when you walk this life with Jesus Christ, there is <em>always<\/em> hope. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tPray over yourself, pray over your spouse, pray over your children. Ask God to move into the places that He has not been because He hasn\u2019t been allowed. Give Him the invitation, and then see where He takes you. It is going to be hard\u2014you\u2019re going to feel like you\u2019re drowning\u2014but you have hope \/ Hebrews 6:18\u2014you put on that life jacket, and you keep breathing, and you keep moving one step at a time, and you watch how God will transform your life!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> As you were saying that Jen, I just kept coming back to Ephesians, \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tChapter 3 [verses 20-21]. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat was almost as a prayer. This is a prayer\u2014the Apostle Paul says, \u201cNow to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations forever and ever. Amen.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jen:<\/strong> Amen.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I think there are likely wives and husbands listening to us\u2014maybe some single folks, who are on the precipice of maybe making the decision to get married, where some of these matters may need to be brought out into the light before they get married\u2014that just need to realize that this decision to say, \u201cI do,\u201d to another imperfect human being is not just about two people. It\u2019s about what God\u2019s doing on planet earth. He chose to use two broken people\u2014for whatever reason, a man and a woman in a marriage relationship\u2014to impact generations. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou guys have two daughters, Barbara and I have six children, Bob\u2014five. We\u2019re all in the process of fulfilling our vows, trying to work out our covenant as best God will enable us to do so, imperfectly as it is; but there\u2019s a lot <em>at<\/em> <em>stake<\/em> in your marriage. I just want\u2014I want the listener, right now, wherever you are \/ whatever you\u2019re facing: \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cIt\u2019s not just about you. It\u2019s not just about your happiness, as the world would want you to believe. It is about what God\u2019s up to in your life, in your spouse\u2019s life, your children\u2019s lives, your grandchildren, and your great grandchildren, and beyond because this marriage relationship is a part of a generational relay. What I will say to the guys is: \u201cIf this is an issue in your life, then I think there are three things you need to do: \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cFirst, you need to get with God. You need to confess to Him that what you\u2019re doing is a sin against <em>Him<\/em>\u2014that looking at pornography is something that is a <em>violation<\/em> of God\u2019s design for marriage and for us, as human beings.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen second, I will say: \u201cYou need to get with a friend \/ somebody you trust, who can hold you accountable to this. And sometime, in the next seven days, get with that friend\u2014confess what\u2019s going on and ask him to hold you accountable.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut then I say there\u2019s a third thing you\u2019ve got to do. I don\u2019t know if we\u2019ll recover from that moment.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m just curious because I\u2019ve asked myself, Dennis: \u201cAm I sending guys into the end of their marriage by recommending that they confess to their spouse what\u2019s going on?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>No, I think that, if they\u2019re tied into a good church and have some meaningful relationships in that church \/ some people that will walk through this valley with them, because it\u2019s not going to be a short valley. Men who get caught or men who come clean in the midst of dealing with pornography wish there was a switch you could walk to on the wall, flip it, and move beyond it; but it\u2019s going to take a while to get beyond it. But there is hope. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think that anyone, who\u2019s listening to us and has been listening to us this week on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>\u2014this ought to be a <em>severe<\/em> warning to every man <em>or<\/em> woman who would dabble in pornography. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think a part of what has made this story of dealing with pornography so helpful is\u2014we\u2019ve had a couple with us who have been extremely <em>real<\/em>. They have allowed us to peer in to their marriage \/ into their lives\u2014as a husband, as a wife, as a mom, as a dad. I just appreciate Craig and Jen Ferguson for allowing us to do that. Welcome back to <em>Family Life Today<\/em>.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jen:<\/strong> Thank you so much.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Craig:<\/strong> Yes; thank you for having us.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> You guys have now been married coming up on 16 years. You have two daughters\u2014an 11-year-old \/ a 9-year-old. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou write in your book that you haven\u2019t totally moved passed this, but you\u2019re in process\u2014that there\u2014I forget exactly how you say it, here on the back. I just want to read this\u2014it says: \u201cWe\u2019re happily married and thankful for God\u2019s ongoing work in our lives. There is hope for a couple who are experiencing the devastation of pornography.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jen: <\/strong>There\u2019s always hope. I think, for so long in my life, I viewed hope as something that I have after I\u2019ve resolved all my problems. What I realized in this walk\u2014if I don\u2019t have hope in the middle of the storm, then, I\u2019m just going to drown. One of the verses that was <em>so<\/em> powerful to me was in Hebrews, Chapter 6\u2014in Hebrews, Chapter 6, he is talking about how we can always flee to Him for refuge. In verse 18 it says, \u201cTherefore we who have fled to Him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAs a wife, I did\u2014we made rules\u2014we said: \u201cOkay we\u2019re going to turn the computer around so that, when I walk in the room, I can see. Don\u2019t have the study door closed. Make sure you have a quiet time every day. Go to your counseling. Don\u2019t clear your history.\u201d I would just <em>exhaust<\/em> myself checking up after him. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen you have two little kids, and a house to manage, and other volunteer opportunities, you just don\u2019t have the capacity. Why?\u2014because God didn\u2019t create <em>you<\/em> to have that capacity.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I\u2019ve got to stop you there because I\u2019m sitting here\u2014I\u2019m just sitting here, thinking, \u201cWhat kind of industry do you work in?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Craig:<\/strong> The tech industry.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> You\u2019re <em>surrounded<\/em> by screens\u2014everywhere.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Craig: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> If we put filters, you\u2019d know how to get passed them; wouldn\u2019t you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Craig:<\/strong> Sure. If I didn\u2019t, I\u2019d figure it out.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> See, I\u2019m listening to what you\u2019re saying. Jen, as a woman\u2014I can\u2019t imagine how a woman would feel\u2014but it makes sense that they\u2019d want to control everything and say, \u201cLet\u2019s get those filters and doors open.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe actually had a couple, here on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>\u2014you would have no way of knowing this\u2014but it was a great story of redemption, just like yours. A bit different\u2014this guy actually lost his job as a result of his pornography addiction. They literally took away every screen \/ every screen in his life; and he went to work for, I think, Home Depot, where there were <em>no<\/em> screens. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Right. Where he couldn\u2019t travel and he didn\u2019t have a computer access; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Yes. Two years later, there was the beginning \/ the vestige of hope that he had rebuilt enough trust to move forward in their marriage\u2014and, today, has a great story of what God did in his life \/ her life\u2014but it really was a come-to-Jesus moment; wasn\u2019t it?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jen:<\/strong> Right. It was a come-to-Jesus moment for me, just as it was for him, because God had to say to me: \u201cJen, you\u2019re <em>not<\/em> the savior. You don\u2019t get to heal him\u2014that\u2019s My job.\u201d God lead me through this process of \u201cHow do I still have hope when he\u2019s still sinning in this sexual way?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe first thing was that my sin is no different than his sin; and my exceeding my role, as his wife, is a sin because I\u2019m trying to control and take God\u2019s place. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo that was number one\u2014God had to say, \u201cStop trying to be a savior, and let Me do My job.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd number two was: \u201cGet off your high horse.\u201d I was kind of like the older brother in the prodigal son, \u201cWhy are you celebrating that he\u2019s coming home when, here, I\u2019ve been so faithful this whole time?\u201d So God had to cure me of my self-righteousness and my pride. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe third one was to just realize pornography is a hole-filler. I have had my share of hole-fillers too\u2014I\u2019ve turned to food \/ I\u2019ve turned to shopping\u2014all of it is <em>idolatry<\/em>. When God showed me that I was just as much of a sinner as he was, I had <em>compassion<\/em> on him. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt made the fear of the unknown\u2014because I\u2019d be like: \u201cOh, what if he sins again? What if he looks at porn? What if the world comes crashing down and our ministry\u2019s over?\u201d and everything. God had to just say: \u201cStop! Take today for what is today. Is he walking in victory today? Praise Me for that! Pray the armor of God over your family. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tTrust Me to go before you. Keep turning to the light,\u201d\u2014because, whenever I would bring out my fear and my controlling, it would just make him shut down because then he feels disrespected, and not loved, and that I don\u2019t trust him. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne of you has to make the decision to <em>start<\/em> trusting. I had to start trusting that he wouldn\u2019t look at porn. He had to start trusting me that I wasn\u2019t going to treat him like a kid. So \u201cWho\u2019s going to start first?\u201d It might as well be <em>you<\/em> because you\u2019re both in this together.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Craig, let me take you back to that volcano\u2014that I talk to men about\u2014that may go off if they confess. A lot of guys are saying, \u201cIf I told my wife\u2026\u201d \/ they hear your story and say: \u201cIf I came clean with <em>my<\/em> wife, she would <em>pack<\/em> the bags. Our marriage would be over!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Craig:<\/strong> Yes; that is a risk, right, that people have to reconcile with. What I was thinking about, as you were saying that, is\u2014a volcano is an extremely destructive event that you cannot control\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014but what happens after the volcano and how God restores that\u2014I mean, some of the most fertile land you can plant stuff in is volcanic ash. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think, cognitively, I didn\u2019t really go through, \u201cOkay; if I tell Jen, then she could leave,\u201d or \u201c\u2026she\u2019s going to leave.\u201d There were probably moments that I did think about that; but we keep going back to relationship\u2014and what relationship is\u2014and relationship is not about rules. Relationship is about being honest, and open, and transparent, and loving one another. God didn\u2019t want to give us a bunch of rules\u2014He only gave us one to begin with\u2014\u201cDon\u2019t eat from that tree.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Craig:<\/strong> It just seemed like we were the ones, who were saying: \u201cWe want more rules,\u201d \u201cWe want more rules,\u201d \u201cWe want more rules.\u201d So He says: \u201cFine. You want more rules? I\u2019ll give you six hundred and forty-some-odd that you\u2019re not going to be able to do until the very culmination of: \u2018Okay; just believe and <em>accept<\/em> the gift that I\u2019m giving you.\u2019\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tGod wants relationship with us. He wants us to have relationship with one another. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tMarriage is the manifestation of the relationship between Christ and the church. He uses that imagery on purpose\u2014it\u2019s very intentional. He wants us to be intentional with one another in that you <em>can\u2019t<\/em> do that without being honest. Being honest requires risk\u2014it could be bad \/ there could be separation. There\u2019s going to be hurt, and there\u2019s going to be pain associated with that\u2014but at the end of that\u2014if you invest the time and if you <em>persevere<\/em> through that time\u2014what\u2019s on the other side of that is absolutely <em>amazing<\/em>. It\u2019s\u2014I would venture that\u2014if you have a spouse, who\u2019s engaging in pornography and is not honest with their wife or their husband\u2014their relationship is <em>not<\/em> what it can be; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> That\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Craig: <\/strong>So to get in on the other side of that is something they could possibly not even imagine at that point.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Your story reminded me of a couple of things we teach at the <em>Weekend to Remember<\/em> marriage getaway. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe, first of all, teach that: \u201cYour spouse is a gift from God and that God knows what He\u2019s doing when He brings two people together,\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Craig: <\/strong>Amen.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014and you actually have a chapter titled this. The other thing we teach is: \u201cYour spouse is not your enemy.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAs I read your story\u2014and now, over the past couple of broadcasts, as I\u2019ve listened to it in person\u2014I have to look at you, Craig, and go\u2014I was going to say, \u201cIf you wanted to be addicted to pornography, you married the wrong woman [Laughter] because this woman, across the table from you, is tenacious.\u201d It\u2019s not that she is able to control you to keep you from getting away with something because you know, full well, you can get away with what you want to get away with.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Craig: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> She is a picture of God\u2019s love for you\u2014to love you out of your solitude \/ out of the safety of your isolation\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014out of the lack of confidence of wanting a real relationship with a real person. I\u2019ve just got to say: \u201cI know you\u2019ve been married about 16 years right now. I can tell you, from having been married 43 years to a very <em>strong<\/em> woman too\u2014the <em>best<\/em> is yet to be.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Craig: <\/strong>That\u2019s good!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: \u201c<\/strong>I mean, you have <em>no<\/em> idea how God wants to use you two in your children\u2019s lives, in the lives of other couples as you do the dance; and you\u2019re going to step on one another\u2019s toes when you do the dance. But if you keep dancing\u2014and don\u2019t lose hope and keep building the trust\u2014then there\u2019s a great story to be told here.\u201d And you guys are telling it!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I just want to know, Craig: \u201cWhat\u2019s different today in terms of the temptation, and why is it that you\u2019re less susceptible to the temptation today than you were?\u201d \u201cHow do guys get out of this?\u201d\u2014I guess is the question I\u2019m asking.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Besides putting your name on a book, <em>Pure Eyes, Clean Heart<\/em>. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> A little accountability there.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Just to be honest about this\u2014when you <em>really<\/em> came clean was in the process of writing this book!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Craig:<\/strong> Absolutely; yes. To answer your question, it\u2019s not relying on me\u2014I had to give that up. I had to realize that I had to truly rely on God. So, when the temptation comes, I turn to Him \/ I turn to Jen. When I feel my life getting out of control \/ when I feel the stress of work getting out of control, I will go to Jen and say: \u201cLook; I\u2019m really stressed out. I could use your prayer.\u201d I do have a group of guys that I meet with regularly, and they know about my struggles. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo for me\u2014ultimately, it\u2019s running to God. And number two\u2014it\u2019s engaging with my partner that God provided for me, and <em>relying<\/em> on her, and really depending upon her like she depends on <em>me<\/em>.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Speak to this\u2014she\u2019s really dangerous; isn\u2019t she?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Craig:<\/strong> Yes! [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I don\u2019t want to turn you into a football coach because you\u2019re a woman; okay?\u2014not that a woman couldn\u2019t coach a football team\u2014but I do want to turn you into a coach for a <em>wife<\/em>. I want you to do your best job of speaking into her life\u2014she\u2019s married to a man who\u2019s disappointed her\u2014maybe it\u2019s not pornography\u2014maybe it\u2019s drugs, it\u2019s alcohol, it\u2019s women, it\u2019s being flirtatious. It\u2019s just tough; there\u2019s nothing pretty about what\u2019s taking place. Speak to that woman, right now, with the kind of courage she needs to have to face the future.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jen: <\/strong>I just want you to know that you are incredibly loved by God. When it seems like the man who is supposed to love and take care of you forever is falling down on his job, you have a <em>God<\/em> who will never fail you. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAll of your hopes, all of your dreams, all of your worries, and your fears and anxiety\u2014He\u2019s holding them right now. You are not alone. You are not worthy of this treatment; you didn\u2019t do anything to deserve this. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSociety tells you that: \u201cIf you look better\u2026\u201d \u201cIf you were thinner\u2026\u201d \u201cIf you had this job or you made that amount of money\u2026\u201d or \u201cIf you were this kind of mom\u2026\u201d\u2014then \u201c\u2026you\u2019d be fully accepted.\u201d I want you to know that that\u2019s a lie! You\u2019re already accepted by Jesus, and He died on the cross so that He could accept you <em>every<\/em> single day. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI just want you to come before Him, right now, with everything you have and just lay it down because I have lived a life of trying to control everything to protect myself, and it doesn\u2019t work! My encouragement to you is to bring it all to your Father, who loves you, and who sees you, and who knows <em>you<\/em> inside out. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBring it to <em>Him<\/em>. Then sit at His feet, and feel His love, and let Him empower you and equip you. Take it day by day because, when you walk this life with Jesus Christ, there is <em>always<\/em> hope. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tPray over yourself, pray over your spouse, pray over your children. Ask God to move into the places that He has not been because He hasn\u2019t been allowed. Give Him the invitation, and then see where He takes you. It is going to be hard\u2014you\u2019re going to feel like you\u2019re drowning\u2014but you have hope \/ Hebrews 6:18\u2014you put on that life jacket, and you keep breathing, and you keep moving one step at a time, and you watch how God will transform your life!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> As you were saying that Jen, I just kept coming back to Ephesians, \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tChapter 3 [verses 20-21]. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat was almost as a prayer. This is a prayer\u2014the Apostle Paul says, \u201cNow to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations forever and ever. Amen.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jen:<\/strong> Amen.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I think there are likely wives and husbands listening to us\u2014maybe some single folks, who are on the precipice of maybe making the decision to get married, where some of these matters may need to be brought out into the light before they get married\u2014that just need to realize that this decision to say, \u201cI do,\u201d to another imperfect human being is not just about two people. It\u2019s about what God\u2019s doing on planet earth. He chose to use two broken people\u2014for whatever reason, a man and a woman in a marriage relationship\u2014to impact generations. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou guys have two daughters, Barbara and I have six children, Bob\u2014five. We\u2019re all in the process of fulfilling our vows, trying to work out our covenant as best God will enable us to do so, imperfectly as it is; but there\u2019s a lot <em>at<\/em> <em>stake<\/em> in your marriage. I just want\u2014I want the listener, right now, wherever you are \/ whatever you\u2019re facing: \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cIt\u2019s not just about you. It\u2019s not just about your happiness, as the world would want you to believe. It is about what God\u2019s up to in your life, in your spouse\u2019s life, your children\u2019s lives, your grandchildren, and your great grandchildren, and beyond because this marriage relationship is a part of a generational relay.
