We happen to be taping today\u2019s program with a wonderful, live studio audience onboard the <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup> marriage cruise\u2014[Applause]\u2014a studio audience that didn\u2019t get to bed until the early hours of the morning recently because they had a chance to be singing hymns with our guests on today\u2019s program. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And Bob, you being the music guru that you are. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Guru is the word, yes. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>That is the word. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>If our listening audience had any idea of how Bob loves to play the game, Name that Tune, and he has a lot of fun. He is uncanny, not only at his ability to name it, but to sing all of the stanzas of all the songs, all the way back to the \u201830s and \u201840s. [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>No!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>Oh my goodness!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>It isn\u2019t that far back\u2014but close. We did play Name that Tune, here onboard the ship, as well. Would you welcome them to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>?\u00a0 [Applause]\u00a0 And probably, the reason most of you know Guy Penrod is because of the time that he spent with the Blackwood Brothers singing\u2014no, I\u2019m making that whole part up; right?\u00a0 Guy Penrod is best known for singing with\u2014whom?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience: <\/strong>The Gaithers. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Bill Gaither and the Gaither Vocal Band. Welcome to the program\u2014nice to have both of you guys here. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>Thank you. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>Thank you. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Did you both meet as students at Liberty University?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>We did, actually. I was a junior or headed into junior year\u2014I had sung through the summer. I sang on a singing team to kind of support the college. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLiberty University is where we both went, and she was coming on as a freshman. She, at the time, was the most highly-recruited athlete\u2014male or female\u2014in the school\u2019s history. She\u2019s quite the basketball\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>\u2014back in the day. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>\u2014player. So, they came early\u2014a couple weeks early; wasn\u2019t it?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>And we had stayed through the summer to work and sing. We were outside of the gym one evening\u2014me and a bunch of buddies from my dorm\u2014playing ball. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>You <em>are<\/em> going to tell this story?\u00a0 [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>I am. And these guys\u2014she and the rest of the basketball team were coming down through the area next to the building where we played. While we were out, getting a breather, we looked down the sidewalk. There was a gaggle of pretty girls\u2014they were kind of huddled together\u2014and you see them talk a minute. Then, they break apart. This gorgeous tall woman starts running toward a hedgerow that looks to be\u2014I don\u2019t know\u2014three or four feet tall. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tShe\u2019s running at it and just hurdles it like a gazelle\u2014[Laughter]\u2014and just keeps going. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>I got eight dollars for doing it. [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>They were taking bets in the little huddle as to whether she could hurdle this thing or not. So, she went back\u2014got her money. I said: \u201cMan! That\u2019s the girl for me\u2014right there.\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>So, have either of you ever heard Bob\u2019s imitation of Jerry Falwell?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>No. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>[Jerry impersonation] \u201cTraining champions for Christ on Liberty Mountain. Let\u2019s have Robbie Hiner sing a lovely song.\u201d\u00a0 How does that sound for you?\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>[Jerry impersonation] \u201cHey, man, that sounds fabulous!\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Many of our audience here don\u2019t know who Jerry Falwell is\u2014he\u2019s been gone too long. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>The Chancellor of Liberty University\u2014but you guys met\u2014it was not the big school,\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>No. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014back when you went there, that it has become today. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>No, it wasn\u2019t. In fact\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>So, Angie, for you to be a highly-recruited basketball player going to Liberty, there were other places you could have gone other than Liberty University; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>That\u2019s right, but none that were training champions for Christ. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014on Liberty Mountain\u2014that\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>Yes. No, that was a great opportunity. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>Ohio State\u2014the coach at Ohio State cried the blues when Angie signed with Liberty because the Big Ten schools all recruited her. She had serious numbers. I mean, she is in the Sports Hall of Fame in Ohio. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>So, how long before you asked her out after she\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>Right then. [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You chased her over the hedge?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>No, they kept walking toward us in their little gaggle. When they got there\u2014I knew some of the girls on the basketball team\u2014they were from my hometown in New Mexico. So, they stopped to talk to me. I was like [whispering], \u201cTell me who this girl is.\u201d\u00a0 So, Sheila, my friend from back home, introduced me to her. Right there, I said: \u201cWell, what are you doing tomorrow night?\u00a0 There is a movie playing\u2014\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>\u2014\u201c<em>Superman<\/em>.\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>So, she didn\u2019t realize she was being asked on a date\u2014but it was. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And was it love at first sight?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>For me\u2014I\u2019m not kidding. [Laughter] I knew\u2014I had prayed a lot about who I\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014what kind of wife I wanted. It was\u2014what?\u2014three nights after we met\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>Oh, probably, something like that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>\u2014and I said, \u201cYou know, I\u2019m ready for a serious relationship.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>It\u2019s a wonder he didn\u2019t scare me off!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>I mean\u2014yes, I don\u2019t know what I was thinking. I\u2019m just pretty blunt, and I just told her. I didn\u2019t scare her off. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>And then, he asked me to marry him three months later\u2014still 17 and\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>She said, \u201cNo.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014and a freshman in college. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Really?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>Well, she said\u2014she didn\u2019t answer\u2014okay. So, guys in the room, if a girl doesn\u2019t answer that question, that\u2019s a\u2014what?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience: <\/strong>\u201cNo.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>That\u2019s a \u201cNo.\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>No, it\u2019s not!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>She\u2019s argued with me for 30 years over this one, but it was a \u201cNo.\u201d\u00a0 So, that was alright. It didn\u2019t turn me off. I\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>I thought it was <em>responsible<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>It was\u2014it was very good. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>So, how long before you did say, \u201cYes\u201d?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>About two more weeks!\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 Then, I was very mature by then. I sat and watched that; and I thought, \u201cThese guys have either been listening to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>, or we just need to turn the show over to them and let them do it.\u201d\u00a0 You guys, from the get-go, came at marriage and family with an orientation on Christ being at the center of all you did\u2014that I think is pretty unique, even among Christians getting married; don\u2019t you think?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>God is good. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>You know, I don\u2019t know how to answer that other than: \u201cThank God for wonderful parents, on both sides, who raised us in a loving environment \/ a safe environment\u2014gave us a platform to build our lives on and encouraged us to do the same as we started our families. It\u2019s not been without mistake; you know?\u00a0 But we have tried, very hard, to put God at the center of everything that we do. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tMy wife is full of the Word; and we\u2019ve been, maybe to a fault, transparent. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think transparency is just an absolute must. Your kids and your wife\u2014as a husband, they are going to see all the good, all the bad, in between. I think it\u2019s best to acknowledge it, get it out on the table, and let it get discussed and hashed by all. Then, at the end of the day, look at the Word of God, see what it has to say about what you\u2019ve gone through or what you\u2019re going through, and move forward accordingly. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>So, when you dated\u2014and you didn\u2019t date long\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>Well, we actually stayed\u2014it was two years that we dated, then. Her dad made me wait until <em>I <\/em>had graduated college before she married me. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I graduated at 10 am; and we got married at 8 pm. [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>True story. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>True, we waited. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>So, did you talk in those two years about what size family you wanted to have?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>I don\u2019t think we\u2019ve discussed that one time. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>Nope. [Laughter]\u00a0 Really we didn\u2019t. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>We discussed\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>And we didn\u2019t\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>\u2014that as we went along, I guess, really. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>The psalmist declared that children are a blessing\u2014\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014and the fruit of the womb is a reward. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>A reward. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>So, your reward ended up being how big?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>Well, seven sons, first, and then, our little daughter. She is our bookend. As we look back\u2014I mean, from experiences and what we\u2019ve poured into our kids, God has filled us in real time through His Spirit\u2014He has provided in real time. It\u2019s not always in advance. So, sometimes, there is a little consternation or concern about what\u2019s coming\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014but if I can push my flesh down far enough to not fret, and worry, and stew\u2014He comes through <em>so<\/em> completely and perfectly. All we can say is, \u201cThank you, Jesus.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>You know?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>Yes. [Applause]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Angie, your husband, for 14 years, sang with Bill Gaither. That meant a lot of time travelling\u2014a lot of time on the road. In many respects, you were like a military wife, who sends a husband off on deployment and may not see him for a couple weeks; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>The schedule was that way, occasionally; but Bill Gaither got him home almost every\u2014by Sunday afternoon, at least, he was home. They travelled weekends, and then, they had those occasional \u201cGo to Africa,\u201d or \u201cGo to England,\u201d or\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014you know, those were longer\u2014but the general travel schedule was: \u201cGone on a weekend or a long weekend; but home about three or four days of the week, at least.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>So, if three or four days of the week, he\u2019s gone\u2014out of the house completely\u2014you\u2019re managing eight kids. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>Did you ever think, \u201cWhy don\u2019t you sell insurance somewhere?\u201d\u2014you know?\u00a0 [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>Yes, I suppose about the time they started passing us in height; and they started looking down: \u201cI need Guy!\u00a0 I need Dad!\u201d because we have four taller than us\u2014and we are 6\u20193\u201d so\u2014but you know, it\u2019s kind of all I knew\u2014so that passing the baton between us and\u2014it is \/ it is always\u2014it\u2019s been tricky. That\u2019s what we were used to, though. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Was it <em>exhausting<\/em> the days he was gone and you were there by yourself?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>I would say, \u201cYes.\u201d\u00a0 I think I was exhausted for about ten or fifteen years there. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>I look back and go: \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cHow did I do that?\u201d because people, in the middle of it, were saying to me\u2014when I was holding a two-year-old with one on the way\u2014and there was a two, four, six, eight\u2014and I would just be getting groceries or whatever. My mom and dad had not moved down yet; and they would look at me like, \u201cHow are\u2014how do you do that?\u201d\u00a0 And I just\u2014that\u2019s all I knew. So, we just pushed through, but it was\u2014yes\u2014pretty rigorous. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>A lot of times, wives in that situation will struggle with having to kind of run everything while a husband is gone. Then, he shows back up; and it\u2019s kind of like, \u201cHow do I fit him into this process we\u2019ve got going on?\u201d\u00a0 It\u2019s like they\u2019re not sure how to integrate that. Did you deal with that at all?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>We do deal with that. [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Still even today?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>We did, and we do\u2014it is tricky. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>In fact, sometimes, I fail miserably. I don\u2019t reenter real well, and the trajectory is not good. I get my feelings hurt. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m kind of the touchy-feely one in the bunch, and she is just so focused. She\u2019s been gifted to be a mama and feels it is her highest call. God has blessed her and equipped her with the ability to do so. Sometimes, when I reenter, I come in like a\u2014out of left field and don\u2019t reenter real well. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br>I think one of the biggest challenges that I believe marriages face, at this time, is for Dad and Mom to just not run off. If you can just stay\u2014if you just stay, then, things can have a chance to work out. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I\u2019m sitting here, listening to them, and just thinking of the model they are to so many folks in the Nashville area. Just being in the industry you\u2019re in\u2014it\u2019s tough. It\u2019s not as easy as a lot of folks would make it look. What would you two say would be the most courageous thing you\u2019ve ever done in your life?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd courage is not the absence of fear\u2014it\u2019s doing your duty in the face of fear. So, you\u2019ve made a lot of decisions that demanded courage; but if you could just pick one that represented the most courageous thing, what would it be and why?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Angie: <\/strong>We might have two different answers on this\u2014but this\u2014oh, I\u2019m getting emotional. [Emotion in voice] He is my hero because it is very courageous to have allowed me\u2014a lot of people don\u2019t realize I was the one that was greedy for the sixth child, the seventh child, and the eighth child. Of course, God is our provider; but he\u2019s the one going out and bringing home the income to support them. I think that\u2019s the most courageous thing that I can see from my vantage point\u2014is that he\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014is that he said: \u201cReally?\u00a0 Okay,\u201d \u201cReally?\u00a0 Okay,\u201d eight times. [Laughter]\u00a0 And we have eight beautiful children. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Would you have given the same answer?\u00a0 You think that\u2019s\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>Well, that\u2019s not fair. You answered\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>\u2014first. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>\u2014for me.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You tell us how you would have answered the question. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>Alright. Well, for me, I mean it would kind of go hand in glove with that in that\u2014in 2009, I retired from a group of guys that I travelled with for 14 years, who\u2014they became like a real family\u2014the Gaither bunch is a real family. Bill and Gloria are very much mama\/papa types. They love those around them\u2014especially, when you are younger than them. So, there was a lot of that relationship between Bill and me. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt was very scary. Bill is a very gracious, generous man. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAll the years that I\u2019m having babies\u2014or she\u2019s having babies and I\u2019m catching babies\u2014Bill would prioritize us getting home for every birth. So, at least, on three \/ maybe four occasions, I was on stage, somewhere in the country\u2014St. Paul\/Minneapolis at the Target Center \/ one of them\u2014one of them at Rep Arena in Kentucky\u2014can\u2019t remember where else. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOur audio guy at the monitor console gets my attention through my headset\u2014Angie has got his cell phone \/ she\u2019s at home. Rob hits me, as we are singing, \u201cGuy, her water just broke.\u201d\u00a0 And I\u2019m singing a song; right?\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 So, trying to keep that face going; you know?\u00a0 [Laughter] We\u2019ve got 20-foot jumbotrons all the way around us in the middle of an arena, and I\u2019m trying to\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>25,000 people watching. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>Yes. I\u2019m singing, \u201cThe King is coming,\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014I\u2019m thinking, \u201cThat\u2019s not all that\u2019s coming!\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 So, yes, I get done with a song, and I catch Bill\u2019s eye. He says [whispering], \u201cIs it time?\u201d\u00a0 I say, \u201cYes.\u201d\u00a0 He says [whispering], \u201cGet out of here.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s the kind of prioritizing he gave our families. His resources\u2014he shared with all those that were around him and got me home for every birth. So, every one of my kids\u2014I was there. I don\u2019t know why I\u2019m telling you this, right now. Why am I telling you this?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>I think it was because you were going toward you used to use the illustration about getting off the ship\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Angie: <\/strong>\u2014like a cruise ship\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>Yes, that\u2019s it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>\u2014into a dinghy, which is sort of\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>That\u2019s it. The career with them was so cloistered and safe\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>\u2014that retiring from that was very scary, and I am a provider. I think all men\u2014that\u2019s just an engrained thing that God set in us to be\u2014protectors\/providers\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014so, it\u2019s a very significant part of who we are. It scared me to death to leave that environment\u2014and to strike out off of one of these types of cruise ship environments\u2014down to my little dinghy, and try to make a record, and try to launch a career. We cashed in a 401k because we believed together, and made a record, and started a record company, and handled all that ourselves, and just struck out. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You\u2019re basically saying you\u2019d like everybody here to please go buy one of your CDs\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>Absolutely. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014before they leave. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>Absolutely. He\u2019s got it <em>so completely<\/em>.\u201d\u00a0 As I look back, it\u2019s just miraculous\u2014there is no blueprint for it\u2014you can\u2019t think it through good enough \/ plan through. There aren\u2019t bullet-points for it\u2014no book to tell you how. That\u2019s just how He wants it because then we\u2019ve got to depend on Him. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>That\u2019s it. That\u2019s right. before they got married. We happen to be taping today\u2019s program with a wonderful, live studio audience onboard the <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup> marriage cruise\u2014[Applause]\u2014a studio audience that didn\u2019t get to bed until the early hours of the morning recently because they had a chance to be singing hymns with our guests on today\u2019s program. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And Bob, you being the music guru that you are. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Guru is the word, yes. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>That is the word. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>If our listening audience had any idea of how Bob loves to play the game, Name that Tune, and he has a lot of fun. He is uncanny, not only at his ability to name it, but to sing all of the stanzas of all the songs, all the way back to the \u201830s and \u201840s. Welcome to the program\u2014nice to have both of you guys here. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>Thank you. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>Thank you. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Did you both meet as students at Liberty University?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>We did, actually. I was a junior or headed into junior year\u2014I had sung through the summer. I sang on a singing team to kind of support the college. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLiberty University is where we both went, and she was coming on as a freshman. She, at the time, was the most highly-recruited athlete\u2014male or female\u2014in the school\u2019s history. She\u2019s quite the basketball\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>\u2014back in the day. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>\u2014player. So, they came early\u2014a couple weeks early; wasn\u2019t it?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>And we had stayed through the summer to work and sing. We were outside of the gym one evening\u2014me and a bunch of buddies from my dorm\u2014playing ball. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>You <em>are<\/em> going to tell this story?\u00a0 [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>I am. And these guys\u2014she and the rest of the basketball team were coming down through the area next to the building where we played. While we were out, getting a breather, we looked down the sidewalk. There was a gaggle of pretty girls\u2014they were kind of huddled together\u2014and you see them talk a minute. Then, they break apart. This gorgeous tall woman starts running toward a hedgerow that looks to be\u2014I don\u2019t know\u2014three or four feet tall. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tShe\u2019s running at it and just hurdles it like a gazelle\u2014[Laughter]\u2014and just keeps going. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>I got eight dollars for doing it. [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>They were taking bets in the little huddle as to whether she could hurdle this thing or not. So, she went back\u2014got her money. I said: \u201cMan! That\u2019s the girl for me\u2014right there.\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>So, have either of you ever heard Bob\u2019s imitation of Jerry Falwell?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>No. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>[Jerry impersonation] \u201cTraining champions for Christ on Liberty Mountain. Let\u2019s have Robbie Hiner sing a lovely song.\u201d\u00a0 How does that sound for you?\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>[Jerry impersonation] \u201cHey, man, that sounds fabulous!\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Many of our audience here don\u2019t know who Jerry Falwell is\u2014he\u2019s been gone too long. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>The Chancellor of Liberty University\u2014but you guys met\u2014it was not the big school,\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>No. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014back when you went there, that it has become today. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>No, it wasn\u2019t. In fact\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>So, Angie, for you to be a highly-recruited basketball player going to Liberty, there were other places you could have gone other than Liberty University; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>That\u2019s right, but none that were training champions for Christ. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014on Liberty Mountain\u2014that\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>Yes. No, that was a great opportunity. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>Ohio State\u2014the coach at Ohio State cried the blues when Angie signed with Liberty because the Big Ten schools all recruited her. She had serious numbers. I mean, she is in the Sports Hall of Fame in Ohio. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>So, how long before you asked her out after she\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>Right then. [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You chased her over the hedge?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>No, they kept walking toward us in their little gaggle. When they got there\u2014I knew some of the girls on the basketball team\u2014they were from my hometown in New Mexico. So, they stopped to talk to me. I was like [whispering], \u201cTell me who this girl is.\u201d\u00a0 So, Sheila, my friend from back home, introduced me to her. Right there, I said: \u201cWell, what are you doing tomorrow night?\u00a0 There is a movie playing\u2014\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>\u2014\u201c<em>Superman<\/em>.\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>So, she didn\u2019t realize she was being asked on a date\u2014but it was. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And was it love at first sight?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>For me\u2014I\u2019m not kidding. [Laughter] I knew\u2014I had prayed a lot about who I\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014what kind of wife I wanted. It was\u2014what?\u2014three nights after we met\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>Oh, probably, something like that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>\u2014and I said, \u201cYou know, I\u2019m ready for a serious relationship.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>It\u2019s a wonder he didn\u2019t scare me off!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>I mean\u2014yes, I don\u2019t know what I was thinking. I\u2019m just pretty blunt, and I just told her. I didn\u2019t scare her off. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>And then, he asked me to marry him three months later\u2014still 17 and\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>She said, \u201cNo.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014and a freshman in college. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Really?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>Well, she said\u2014she didn\u2019t answer\u2014okay. It was actually on my birthday, and I was like\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>It was. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>\u2014hinting around, \u201cAsk me again.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cAsk me again.\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>Yes, she was. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>I saw a TV special that took us in your home on the ranch with the kids\u2014the whole thing. I sat and watched that; and I thought, \u201cThese guys have either been listening to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>, or we just need to turn the show over to them and let them do it.\u201d\u00a0 You guys, from the get-go, came at marriage and family with an orientation on Christ being at the center of all you did\u2014that I think is pretty unique, even among Christians getting married; don\u2019t you think?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>God is good. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>You know, I don\u2019t know how to answer that other than: \u201cThank God for wonderful parents, on both sides, who raised us in a loving environment \/ a safe environment\u2014gave us a platform to build our lives on and encouraged us to do the same as we started our families. It\u2019s not been without mistake; you know?\u00a0 But we have tried, very hard, to put God at the center of everything that we do. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tMy wife is full of the Word; and we\u2019ve been, maybe to a fault, transparent. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think transparency is just an absolute must. Your kids and your wife\u2014as a husband, they are going to see all the good, all the bad, in between. I think it\u2019s best to acknowledge it, get it out on the table, and let it get discussed and hashed by all. Then, at the end of the day, look at the Word of God, see what it has to say about what you\u2019ve gone through or what you\u2019re going through, and move forward accordingly. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>So, when you dated\u2014and you didn\u2019t date long\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>Well, we actually stayed\u2014it was two years that we dated, then. Her dad made me wait until <em>I <\/em>had graduated college before she married me. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I graduated at 10 am; and we got married at 8 pm. [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>True story. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>True, we waited. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>So, did you talk in those two years about what size family you wanted to have?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>I don\u2019t think we\u2019ve discussed that one time. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>Nope. [Laughter]\u00a0 Really we didn\u2019t. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>We discussed\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>And we didn\u2019t\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>\u2014that as we went along, I guess, really. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>The psalmist declared that children are a blessing\u2014\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014and the fruit of the womb is a reward. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>A reward. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>So, your reward ended up being how big?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>Well, seven sons, first, and then, our little daughter. She is our bookend. As we look back\u2014I mean, from experiences and what we\u2019ve poured into our kids, God has filled us in real time through His Spirit\u2014He has provided in real time. It\u2019s not always in advance. So, sometimes, there is a little consternation or concern about what\u2019s coming\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014but if I can push my flesh down far enough to not fret, and worry, and stew\u2014He comes through <em>so<\/em> completely and perfectly. All we can say is, \u201cThank you, Jesus.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>You know?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>Yes. [Applause]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Angie, your husband, for 14 years, sang with Bill Gaither. That meant a lot of time travelling\u2014a lot of time on the road. In many respects, you were like a military wife, who sends a husband off on deployment and may not see him for a couple weeks; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>The schedule was that way, occasionally; but Bill Gaither got him home almost every\u2014by Sunday afternoon, at least, he was home. They travelled weekends, and then, they had those occasional \u201cGo to Africa,\u201d or \u201cGo to England,\u201d or\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014you know, those were longer\u2014but the general travel schedule was: \u201cGone on a weekend or a long weekend; but home about three or four days of the week, at least.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>So, if three or four days of the week, he\u2019s gone\u2014out of the house completely\u2014you\u2019re managing eight kids. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>Did you ever think, \u201cWhy don\u2019t you sell insurance somewhere?\u201d\u2014you know?\u00a0 [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>Yes, I suppose about the time they started passing us in height; and they started looking down: \u201cI need Guy!\u00a0 I need Dad!\u201d because we have four taller than us\u2014and we are 6\u20193\u201d so\u2014but you know, it\u2019s kind of all I knew\u2014so that passing the baton between us and\u2014it is \/ it is always\u2014it\u2019s been tricky. That\u2019s what we were used to, though. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Was it <em>exhausting<\/em> the days he was gone and you were there by yourself?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>I would say, \u201cYes.\u201d\u00a0 I think I was exhausted for about ten or fifteen years there. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>I look back and go: \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cHow did I do that?\u201d because people, in the middle of it, were saying to me\u2014when I was holding a two-year-old with one on the way\u2014and there was a two, four, six, eight\u2014and I would just be getting groceries or whatever. My mom and dad had not moved down yet; and they would look at me like, \u201cHow are\u2014how do you do that?\u201d\u00a0 And I just\u2014that\u2019s all I knew. So, we just pushed through, but it was\u2014yes\u2014pretty rigorous. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>A lot of times, wives in that situation will struggle with having to kind of run everything while a husband is gone. Then, he shows back up; and it\u2019s kind of like, \u201cHow do I fit him into this process we\u2019ve got going on?\u201d\u00a0 It\u2019s like they\u2019re not sure how to integrate that. Did you deal with that at all?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>We do deal with that. [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Still even today?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>We did, and we do\u2014it is tricky. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>In fact, sometimes, I fail miserably. I don\u2019t reenter real well, and the trajectory is not good. I get my feelings hurt. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m kind of the touchy-feely one in the bunch, and she is just so focused. She\u2019s been gifted to be a mama and feels it is her highest call. God has blessed her and equipped her with the ability to do so. Sometimes, when I reenter, I come in like a\u2014out of left field and don\u2019t reenter real well. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br>I think one of the biggest challenges that I believe marriages face, at this time, is for Dad and Mom to just not run off. If you can just stay\u2014if you just stay, then, things can have a chance to work out. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I\u2019m sitting here, listening to them, and just thinking of the model they are to so many folks in the Nashville area. Just being in the industry you\u2019re in\u2014it\u2019s tough. It\u2019s not as easy as a lot of folks would make it look. What would you two say would be the most courageous thing you\u2019ve ever done in your life?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd courage is not the absence of fear\u2014it\u2019s doing your duty in the face of fear. So, you\u2019ve made a lot of decisions that demanded courage; but if you could just pick one that represented the most courageous thing, what would it be and why?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Angie: <\/strong>We might have two different answers on this\u2014but this\u2014oh, I\u2019m getting emotional. [Emotion in voice] He is my hero because it is very courageous to have allowed me\u2014a lot of people don\u2019t realize I was the one that was greedy for the sixth child, the seventh child, and the eighth child. Of course, God is our provider; but he\u2019s the one going out and bringing home the income to support them. I think that\u2019s the most courageous thing that I can see from my vantage point\u2014is that he\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014is that he said: \u201cReally?\u00a0 Okay,\u201d \u201cReally?\u00a0 Okay,\u201d eight times. [Laughter]\u00a0 And we have eight beautiful children. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Would you have given the same answer?\u00a0 You think that\u2019s\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>Well, that\u2019s not fair. You answered\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>\u2014first. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>\u2014for me.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You tell us how you would have answered the question. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>Alright. Well, for me, I mean it would kind of go hand in glove with that in that\u2014in 2009, I retired from a group of guys that I travelled with for 14 years, who\u2014they became like a real family\u2014the Gaither bunch is a real family. Bill and Gloria are very much mama\/papa types. They love those around them\u2014especially, when you are younger than them. So, there was a lot of that relationship between Bill and me. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt was very scary. Bill is a very gracious, generous man. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAll the years that I\u2019m having babies\u2014or she\u2019s having babies and I\u2019m catching babies\u2014Bill would prioritize us getting home for every birth. So, at least, on three \/ maybe four occasions, I was on stage, somewhere in the country\u2014St. Paul\/Minneapolis at the Target Center \/ one of them\u2014one of them at Rep Arena in Kentucky\u2014can\u2019t remember where else. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOur audio guy at the monitor console gets my attention through my headset\u2014Angie has got his cell phone \/ she\u2019s at home. Rob hits me, as we are singing, \u201cGuy, her water just broke.\u201d\u00a0 And I\u2019m singing a song; right?\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 So, trying to keep that face going; you know?\u00a0 [Laughter] We\u2019ve got 20-foot jumbotrons all the way around us in the middle of an arena, and I\u2019m trying to\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>25,000 people watching. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>Yes. His resources\u2014he shared with all those that were around him and got me home for every birth. So, every one of my kids\u2014I was there. I don\u2019t know why I\u2019m telling you this, right now. Why am I telling you this?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>I think it was because you were going toward you used to use the illustration about getting off the ship\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Angie: <\/strong>\u2014like a cruise ship\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>Yes, that\u2019s it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>\u2014into a dinghy, which is sort of\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>That\u2019s it. I think all men\u2014that\u2019s just an engrained thing that God set in us to be\u2014protectors\/providers\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014so, it\u2019s a very significant part of who we are. It scared me to death to leave that environment\u2014and to strike out off of one of these types of cruise ship environments\u2014down to my little dinghy, and try to make a record, and try to launch a career. We cashed in a 401k because we believed together, and made a record, and started a record company, and handled all that ourselves, and just struck out. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You\u2019re basically saying you\u2019d like everybody here to please go buy one of your CDs\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Guy: <\/strong>Absolutely. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014before they leave. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>Absolutely. I would say to any of you that, if God has put a dream to do\u2014if, in prayer and seeking Him, you know that it\u2019s the Lord speaking\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014and it scares you to death, it\u2019s probably Him. [Laughter] I would encourage you, just from experience: \u201cStep out there. He\u2019s got it <em>so completely<\/em>.\u201d\u00a0 As I look back, it\u2019s just miraculous\u2014there is no blueprint for it\u2014you can\u2019t think it through good enough \/ plan through. There aren\u2019t bullet-points for it\u2014no book to tell you how. That\u2019s just how He wants it because then we\u2019ve got to depend on Him. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Angie: <\/strong>That\u2019s it. That\u2019s right.
