What is the significance of the fact that Jesus is praying for our marriage and for our family? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>1:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe\u2019ll explore that today with David Nasser. Stay tuned.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd welcome to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>. Thanks for joining us on the Thursday edition. I remember\u2014it was about a year ago that we were getting ready to host one of three <em>I Still Do<\/em> marriage events\u2014this one was in Chicago. I got an email from a friend of mine, who said, \u201cDavid Nasser\u201d\u2014who was going to be one of the speakers\u2014\u201cPlease pray for David.\u201d Let me show you what the email said. It said his wife just had a grandma seizure. I thought, \u201cA grandma seizure\u2014what\u2019s a grandma seizure?\u201d And then I realized the guy had heard grand mal\u2014it had been a grand mal seizure that she had had. He just heard \u201cgrandma.\u201d I wrote him back and said, \u201cNo, I don\u2019t think it was a grandma seizure\u2014I think it was a grand mal seizure.\u201d We did pray. It was a serious occurrence as we were preparing for this event. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe didn\u2019t know if David was going to be able to join us. By God\u2019s grace, everything worked out and everything was okay\u2014he was able to be with us. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAs he shared with the audience that day at <em>I Still Do<\/em>, Dennis\u2014he reminded all of us that, when a crisis comes\u2014and they will come in your marriage\u2014they may take you by surprise, but they don\u2019t take Jesus by surprise.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>No. God is in charge, and He\u2019s in control. He knows what\u2019s happening in your life and mine, and He meets us in our crisis and in our point of need, and He prays for us. You\u2019re going to hear a powerful message today from the Senior Vice-President of Spiritual Development of Liberty University at <em>I Still Do<\/em> about a year ago. Bob, this year, I\u2019d like to see 1,000 churches, across the country from all 50 states, make a statement about marriage and family for your community and your state.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>One of the statements that was made last year, as David Nasser came to speak, was the statement that: \u201cWhatever you\u2019re going through in your marriage and in your family, Jesus not only know about it, but Jesus has already prayed for you about it\u2014that He is a Redeemer \/ a Savior who prays for us.\u201d David Nasser was speaking out of John, Chapter 17, where Jesus prayed for His disciples on the night before His crucifixion. Here\u2019s Part Two of David Nasser\u2019s message from <em>I Still Do<\/em> a year ago.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Previously Recorded Message]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>David: <\/strong>I don\u2019t know if you\u2019ve ever had the chance to go to Israel and go to the Garden of Gethsemane. We don\u2019t know the exact tree, but there\u2019s this cluster of olive trees that you can go to. You know, pretty much, that one, even though it\u2019s a supposed site, it\u2019s an exact site as well in that one of about nine different olive trees is the one that Jesus was under. He was praying and pressing in before the crucible of the cross. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIn that moment, 2,000 years before you were born, Jesus brought you up in the garden. Jesus begins to pray for you in the garden. He\u2019s praying for unity with God and unity with each other. He\u2019s praying, at that moment, that the gospel would flesh itself out in your life and in my life. Two thousand years ago, Jesus is praying for <em>us <\/em>in the garden. In John 17:1-6 you could say He prays for Himself; but ultimately, you know what He\u2019s praying? He\u2019s praying for everything that I just shared with you, which is the gospel; right?\u2014that Jesus is the great sacrificial Lamb \/ He\u2019s the great substitute.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe\u2019s praying that all of that would be received by <em>us<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen He prays, for a few verses, for His\u2014specifically, His disciples; right?\u2014He\u2019s praying for the 11. Then we walk right into this moment, and Jesus says this\u2014He says, \u201cI do not ask for these.\u201d The \u201cthese\u201d in that moment is the disciples; right?\u2014the church-planters that are about to <em>launch<\/em> the Great Commission. He says, \u201cI do not just ask for these only, but also those who will believe in Me through their word.\u201d If you\u2019re good with your Bible and you have it out, and you want to circle that word there, you can put your name on top of that because, if you\u2019re born again, your name just showed up in the Bible. Jesus literally in that moment is in the garden, and you know what He\u2019s praying for?\u2014He\u2019s praying for <em>you<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnybody here pregnant?\u2014like, physically, right now?\u2014any mamas here, pregnant? I know your community group\u2019s been praying for your baby, I know your pastor\u2019s been praying for your baby, I know your mom has been praying for the baby, I know people have been picking out stuff for the baby, I know you\u2019ve been going to Pottery Barn Baby, and you\u2019ve been\u00a0 getting stuff on sale for the baby. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI know you\u2019ve been anticipating the baby. I just want to tell you\u2014guess who has you beat\u2014because for nine months you\u2019ve been going after your baby \/ praying for your baby, laying hands on your baby\u2014but for 2,000 years, Jesus has been praying for that baby\u2014[Applause] \u2014right? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSomebody in this room is adopting right now. Somebody in this room, right now\u2014you\u2019re like \/ they told you, \u201cIn five months, you\u2019re going to get your baby.\u201d Nine months later, you haven\u2019t gotten your baby. Somebody told you: \u201cThis is a good country. You can get through this country pretty quickly.\u201d Now, you\u2019re in the thick of it because you know\u2014you know, right?\u2014adoption is spiritual warfare\u2014right? \u2014because you\u2019re not just interested in physically adopting a kid, you want them to go from orphan to heir into the Kingdom of God\u2014so you have a bigger thing in mind. Satan doesn\u2019t want that. So anybody in the middle of adoption right now, you\u2019ve been praying for that\u2014it\u2019s the same as being pregnant. You\u2019re in that moment\u2014alright\u2014so you know what I\u2019m talking about; right? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt took us 21 months to get our son Rudy from Guatemala here. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tFor 21 months, I was like: \u201cGod! Have you forgotten about Rudy?!\u201d God was like: \u201cI haven\u2019t forgotten about Rudy. Long before you knew Rudy, I\u2019ve been praying for Rudy. Guess who has more skin in the game than you, David, in Rudy\u2019s life\u2014My Son.\u201d Isn\u2019t it comforting? Can I just get practical with you, as a dad \/ as a mom? Isn\u2019t it comforting to know that, for thousands of years, Jesus has been praying for that baby\u2014that baby? [Applause]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tJesus begins to go after God, the Father\u2014He says: \u201cGod, that through Me \/ through Me that this would happen\u2014that they may still be one; just as you, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us; so that the world may believe that You have sent Me [John 17:21 paraphrase].\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI want to read you a quote; alright? We\u2019re almost done here, but I want to read you a quote\u2014I love this quote. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI found this quote from John Stark. This is a great quote because he wraps up, I think, the gospel\u2014alright?\u2014and how it just becomes so much more than a prayer for unity but a prayer for unity with God the Father, through salvation, but also then the people of salvation having unity and community together, and church together, and missiology together. John Stark says how all of that gets activated is by the very One who petitions it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tListen to this\u2014John Stark says, \u201cThe priestly work of Christ\u201d\u2014that\u2019s what we\u2019re seeing here\u2014\u201cThe priestly work of Christ is His sacrifice and His intercession.\u201d John Stark gets that, I think, from Wayne Grudem\u2014so let\u2019s give him credit for that. Then he says this\u2014he says, \u201cEvery prayer of Jesus is answered\u201d\u2014amen, hallelujah, praise God for that\u2014\u201cand paid in full with His blood.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, the very One who asks God for us \/ the very One who prays for your salvation is the very One who makes that a possibility by dying on the cross so that you may be saved. The very One who is pressing in for your sanctification is the very One who continues to bring you to the table and grow you in Christ. Every single thing\u2014the saving grace and the sustaining grace\u2014is completely made available by the very One who\u2019s praying for you. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI can pray for you to become a millionaire, but I do not have the resources to make that prayer come true. But honestly, what if I was a billionaire, praying for you to become a millionaire? You\u2019d go, \u201cYou can be the very answer to the prayer.\u201d\u00a0 Jesus not only is <em>praying <\/em>for us, beloved\u2014He\u2019s not only <em>praying<\/em> for your marriage\u2014but He\u2019s the very One who has the ability to equip the very trenches of your marriage.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo what does this do? You know what it does? It brings us completely back into the very center of it all, which is Jesus. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou know what I\u2019m reminded of? I\u2019m reminded about the reality that all my prayers ultimately come back to one thing anyway\u2014Jesus \/ Jesus.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI have this friend\u2014his name is Alex Himaya. He is a pastor now in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He\u2019s an incredible guy \/ he\u2019s a godly brother; but he is kind of nerdy. He wears these big, thick, Coke-bottle glasses; and without them he\u2019s blind. Back when he was a youth pastor, he called me one day. When he called me, he sounded kind of drunk on the phone. It was about 10:30 at night; and he calls me and he\u2019s like, \u201cHey man.\u201d I\u2019m like, \u201cHey buddy; you okay?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe goes, \u201cMan, I\u2019m okay.\u201d He goes, \u201cI can\u2019t feel anything.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m like, \u201cWhat\u2019s going on?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe goes: \u201cWell, I\u2019m sitting in an ambulance. My leg is bended in a spot it shouldn\u2019t be bended.\u201d And he starts laughing. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m like, \u201cAlright, buddy; what\u2019s going on?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe said, \u201cLet me tell you,\u201d\u2014so he starts telling me. He\u2019s leaving his youth facility; and he said: \u201cMan, I was running late. Man, I was coming out of my youth facility.\u201d His glasses are really thick. It was really cold in his youth facility, like air-conditioned. As he left the cold to the heat\u2014kind of fogged up his glasses. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo he goes and he gets in his Honda Accord. His wife had yelled at him for being late; alright\u2014so he said, \u201cMan, I started up my Honda Accord.\u201d He said, \u201cI knew the parking lot was empty,\u201d because youth pastors are usually the last people to leave a building; right? And he said, \u201cIn the back of my mind, I\u2019m thinking, \u2018I\u2019m running late,\u2019\u201d\u2014so he says: \u201cI\u2019m running late. I\u2019m going almost 50 miles an hour. I\u2019m putting my glasses on.\u201d And he says: \u201cI\u2019m putting my glasses on. It becomes clear to me\u2014with my glasses, I\u2019m looking\u2014and right in front of me is this cement thing.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI said, \u201cWhat\u2019d you do?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe goes, \u201cI went, \u2018J\u2019! and then I hit it dead on.\u201d [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo I go, \u201cAll you got out was \u2018J\u2019?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe goes, \u201cMan, all I got out was \u2018J\u2019!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo we started laughing; right? I started going, \u201cIsn\u2019t that funny, man?\u2014like you got out \u2018J\u2019!\u201d And he was like, \u201cI know!\u201d I was like, \u201cMan, I wonder, if in heaven\u2014like\u00a0 Jacob, and Josiah, and Joseph\u2014[Laughter] \u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014I wonder if all these people were like, \u201cIs he talking about me?\u201d [Laughter] And Jesus is like, \u201cTypically, in these situations, guys, it\u2019s Me.\u201d You know? [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe reason we\u2019re all laughing is because it\u2019s silly; right? It\u2019s silly to think that he would have to say all of Jesus\u2019 name. How many of you know, as we\u2019re taught in the Lord\u2019s Prayer, that the Father knows what you need before you even petition? How many know that? How many of you believe that? How many of you believe, with me, it\u2019s silly \/ it is comedy\u2014right?\u2014it\u2019s comical to go, \u201cYou have to say \u2018Jesus.\u2019\u201d But did he have to, past \u201cJesus,\u201d say other things? If that\u2019s true, then he\u2019d have to do: \u201cJesus?\u201d \u201cYes.\u201d \u201cIn just a second, Jesus, I\u2019m going to hit a pole,\u201d [Laughter] \u201cand obviously there will be bleeding. Jesus, I pray that the paramedic will see the blood and be reminded upon what You shed upon the cross, Jesus.\u201d [Laughter] \u201cFor Your renown, let this happen.\u201d He didn\u2019t have time! You know what he got out?\u2014\u201cJ\u201d! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLet\u2019s say he didn\u2019t even get out \u201cJ.\u201d Let\u2019s say all he got out was [squeak] [Laughter]\u2014right?\u00a0 It\u2019s silly! It\u2019s silly to think you have to say it so that Jesus will know it because He knows it. You know why He knows it? Because He\u2019s been praying what you need right now well before you needed it. So guess what? Maybe on the drive over here, you didn\u2019t hold hands, and pray, and go, \u201cGod, rack out our marriage today.\u201d But guess who was praying for your marriage the whole drive in?\u2014Jesus \/ Jesus. [Applause] He\u2019s for you. Guess who\u2019s going to be praying for you tomorrow? Guess who\u2019s praying right now?\u2014Jesus. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, can we just pray together\u2014just where we are? Can we just go to the One who\u2019s been praying for us? Just with your heads bowed, can I ask you a really simple question? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tDoesn\u2019t all of this\u2014that we\u2019re looking at this afternoon\u2014really not hinge upon the good news of the gospel? You know, what\u2019s interesting is that this prayer from Jesus is for the elect. It\u2019s interesting that, over and over again, in Scripture, we see Jesus pushing in on behalf of His people \/ pushing in on behalf of His Kingdom\u2014but the beauty of that\u2014the beauty of that is that there\u2019s such good news if we are a part of the family of God, but such bad news if we\u2019re not.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAgain, don\u2019t lose sight\u2014don\u2019t lose sight that Jesus, in the garden before He is about to sacrifice Himself as the sacrificial lamb \/ as the great substitute for you, begins to pray for you. Maybe today, in this very moment, before we go even any further, you\u2019re already beginning to awaken to this reality that Jesus has been praying for your salvation. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tMaybe what you don\u2019t need is a better job \/ what you don\u2019t need is better ways to communicate\u2014all of those are good. Maybe what you don\u2019t need is the ability to shut up and listen \/ maybe what you don\u2019t need is better languaging. Maybe what you don\u2019t need is one more workbook\u2014all those are good\u2014but maybe what you really need is the primary thing, which is Jesus. What Jesus has been praying for you today is for you to wake up and realize you don\u2019t need to rededicate something that\u2019s never been dedicated in the first place. Maybe that\u2019s you, as a husband \/ maybe that\u2019s you, as a wife. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf you\u2019ve never asked Christ to step out of heaven \/ to step into your life, maybe today that\u2019s the very prayer that Jesus is not only praying for you but He\u2019s making available by what He did on the cross so that you could come to Him. So that\u2019s you\u2014if that is you, at this very moment, I just want to pray with you. You know what prayer is? Prayer is tuning your heart to the frequency of God\u2014it\u2019s having a dependant conversation with God. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf that\u2019s you, I just want to pray and then ask you to repeat, just in your own heart, if you agree in your spirit with what I\u2019m saying, these very words back to the Lord: \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tJesus, thank You that in the garden, 2,000 years ago, You prayed for my salvation. You prayed that I would be made one with You \/ one with the Father\u2014that even though sin separates me from the Father\u2014even though a holy, and a perfect, and a righteous God is separated from unholy, unrighteous, sinful me\u2014that Jesus, You came as the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Thank you, Jesus, that You lived a perfect life\u2014and that after You lived the perfect, the holy, the sinless life\u2014that You died a sinner\u2019s death on my behalf \/ that You paid the penalty that I should pay. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThank You that, Jesus, even then, 2,000 years ago, when you knew all that was happening\u2014you knew it was happening so that on a day like this I could have a way\u2014the only Way\u2014which is You. So Jesus, I receive that today\u2014I receive that. I give you all of me\u2014every single bit of me \/ not just one compartment\u2014but all of me. I don\u2019t want You just to come and fix my marriage, or fix my job, or fix one thing\u2014all of me. I\u2019m all in\u2014I\u2019m all in, Jesus. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThank You, Jesus, that they put Your body on a cross and then they took it off that cross, put it in a tomb, and three days later\u2014when they came back to check on that tomb\u2014it was empty because You conquered the grave. I need that resurrection power\u2014not just for my marriage \/ not just for my reputation\u2014those are just the symptoms. Start from within, God. Right now, I need that resurrection power\u2014strip me \/ raise me from old to new. These are Christ\u2019s words \/ Himself: \u201cTruly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears My Word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThere are listeners, right now, who are in the midst of death. I remember\u2014it was about a year ago that we were getting ready to host one of three <em>I Still Do<\/em> marriage events\u2014this one was in Chicago. I got an email from a friend of mine, who said, \u201cDavid Nasser\u201d\u2014who was going to be one of the speakers\u2014\u201cPlease pray for David.\u201d Let me show you what the email said. It said his wife just had a grandma seizure. I thought, \u201cA grandma seizure\u2014what\u2019s a grandma seizure?\u201d And then I realized the guy had heard grand mal\u2014it had been a grand mal seizure that she had had. He just heard \u201cgrandma.\u201d I wrote him back and said, \u201cNo, I don\u2019t think it was a grandma seizure\u2014I think it was a grand mal seizure.\u201d We did pray. It was a serious occurrence as we were preparing for this event. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe didn\u2019t know if David was going to be able to join us. By God\u2019s grace, everything worked out and everything was okay\u2014he was able to be with us. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAs he shared with the audience that day at <em>I Still Do<\/em>, Dennis\u2014he reminded all of us that, when a crisis comes\u2014and they will come in your marriage\u2014they may take you by surprise, but they don\u2019t take Jesus by surprise.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>No. God is in charge, and He\u2019s in control. Bob, this year, I\u2019d like to see 1,000 churches, across the country from all 50 states, make a statement about marriage and family for your community and your state.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>One of the statements that was made last year, as David Nasser came to speak, was the statement that: \u201cWhatever you\u2019re going through in your marriage and in your family, Jesus not only know about it, but Jesus has already prayed for you about it\u2014that He is a Redeemer \/ a Savior who prays for us.\u201d David Nasser was speaking out of John, Chapter 17, where Jesus prayed for His disciples on the night before His crucifixion. Here\u2019s Part Two of David Nasser\u2019s message from <em>I Still Do<\/em> a year ago.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Previously Recorded Message]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>David: <\/strong>I don\u2019t know if you\u2019ve ever had the chance to go to Israel and go to the Garden of Gethsemane. We don\u2019t know the exact tree, but there\u2019s this cluster of olive trees that you can go to. You know, pretty much, that one, even though it\u2019s a supposed site, it\u2019s an exact site as well in that one of about nine different olive trees is the one that Jesus was under. He was praying and pressing in before the crucible of the cross. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIn that moment, 2,000 years before you were born, Jesus brought you up in the garden. Jesus begins to pray for you in the garden. He\u2019s praying for unity with God and unity with each other. He\u2019s praying, at that moment, that the gospel would flesh itself out in your life and in my life. Two thousand years ago, Jesus is praying for <em>us <\/em>in the garden. In John 17:1-6 you could say He prays for Himself; but ultimately, you know what He\u2019s praying? He\u2019s praying for everything that I just shared with you, which is the gospel; right?\u2014that Jesus is the great sacrificial Lamb \/ He\u2019s the great substitute.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe\u2019s praying that all of that would be received by <em>us<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen He prays, for a few verses, for His\u2014specifically, His disciples; right?\u2014He\u2019s praying for the 11. Then we walk right into this moment, and Jesus says this\u2014He says, \u201cI do not ask for these.\u201d The \u201cthese\u201d in that moment is the disciples; right?\u2014the church-planters that are about to <em>launch<\/em> the Great Commission. He says, \u201cI do not just ask for these only, but also those who will believe in Me through their word.\u201d If you\u2019re good with your Bible and you have it out, and you want to circle that word there, you can put your name on top of that because, if you\u2019re born again, your name just showed up in the Bible. Jesus literally in that moment is in the garden, and you know what He\u2019s praying for?\u2014He\u2019s praying for <em>you<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnybody here pregnant?\u2014like, physically, right now?\u2014any mamas here, pregnant? I know your community group\u2019s been praying for your baby, I know your pastor\u2019s been praying for your baby, I know your mom has been praying for the baby, I know people have been picking out stuff for the baby, I know you\u2019ve been going to Pottery Barn Baby, and you\u2019ve been\u00a0 getting stuff on sale for the baby. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI know you\u2019ve been anticipating the baby. I just want to tell you\u2014guess who has you beat\u2014because for nine months you\u2019ve been going after your baby \/ praying for your baby, laying hands on your baby\u2014but for 2,000 years, Jesus has been praying for that baby\u2014[Applause] \u2014right? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSomebody in this room is adopting right now. Somebody in this room, right now\u2014you\u2019re like \/ they told you, \u201cIn five months, you\u2019re going to get your baby.\u201d Nine months later, you haven\u2019t gotten your baby. Somebody told you: \u201cThis is a good country. You can get through this country pretty quickly.\u201d Now, you\u2019re in the thick of it because you know\u2014you know, right?\u2014adoption is spiritual warfare\u2014right? \u2014because you\u2019re not just interested in physically adopting a kid, you want them to go from orphan to heir into the Kingdom of God\u2014so you have a bigger thing in mind. Satan doesn\u2019t want that. So anybody in the middle of adoption right now, you\u2019ve been praying for that\u2014it\u2019s the same as being pregnant. You\u2019re in that moment\u2014alright\u2014so you know what I\u2019m talking about; right? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt took us 21 months to get our son Rudy from Guatemala here. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tFor 21 months, I was like: \u201cGod! Have you forgotten about Rudy?!\u201d God was like: \u201cI haven\u2019t forgotten about Rudy. Long before you knew Rudy, I\u2019ve been praying for Rudy. Guess who has more skin in the game than you, David, in Rudy\u2019s life\u2014My Son.\u201d Isn\u2019t it comforting? Can I just get practical with you, as a dad \/ as a mom? Isn\u2019t it comforting to know that, for thousands of years, Jesus has been praying for that baby\u2014that baby? [Applause]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tJesus begins to go after God, the Father\u2014He says: \u201cGod, that through Me \/ through Me that this would happen\u2014that they may still be one; just as you, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us; so that the world may believe that You have sent Me [John 17:21 paraphrase].\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI want to read you a quote; alright? We\u2019re almost done here, but I want to read you a quote\u2014I love this quote. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI found this quote from John Stark. This is a great quote because he wraps up, I think, the gospel\u2014alright?\u2014and how it just becomes so much more than a prayer for unity but a prayer for unity with God the Father, through salvation, but also then the people of salvation having unity and community together, and church together, and missiology together. John Stark says how all of that gets activated is by the very One who petitions it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tListen to this\u2014John Stark says, \u201cThe priestly work of Christ\u201d\u2014that\u2019s what we\u2019re seeing here\u2014\u201cThe priestly work of Christ is His sacrifice and His intercession.\u201d John Stark gets that, I think, from Wayne Grudem\u2014so let\u2019s give him credit for that. Then he says this\u2014he says, \u201cEvery prayer of Jesus is answered\u201d\u2014amen, hallelujah, praise God for that\u2014\u201cand paid in full with His blood.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, the very One who asks God for us \/ the very One who prays for your salvation is the very One who makes that a possibility by dying on the cross so that you may be saved. The very One who is pressing in for your sanctification is the very One who continues to bring you to the table and grow you in Christ. Every single thing\u2014the saving grace and the sustaining grace\u2014is completely made available by the very One who\u2019s praying for you. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI can pray for you to become a millionaire, but I do not have the resources to make that prayer come true. But honestly, what if I was a billionaire, praying for you to become a millionaire? You\u2019d go, \u201cYou can be the very answer to the prayer.\u201d\u00a0 Jesus not only is <em>praying <\/em>for us, beloved\u2014He\u2019s not only <em>praying<\/em> for your marriage\u2014but He\u2019s the very One who has the ability to equip the very trenches of your marriage.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo what does this do? You know what it does? It brings us completely back into the very center of it all, which is Jesus. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou know what I\u2019m reminded of? I\u2019m reminded about the reality that all my prayers ultimately come back to one thing anyway\u2014Jesus \/ Jesus.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI have this friend\u2014his name is Alex Himaya. He is a pastor now in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He\u2019s an incredible guy \/ he\u2019s a godly brother; but he is kind of nerdy. He wears these big, thick, Coke-bottle glasses; and without them he\u2019s blind. Back when he was a youth pastor, he called me one day. When he called me, he sounded kind of drunk on the phone. It was about 10:30 at night; and he calls me and he\u2019s like, \u201cHey man.\u201d I\u2019m like, \u201cHey buddy; you okay?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe goes, \u201cMan, I\u2019m okay.\u201d He goes, \u201cI can\u2019t feel anything.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m like, \u201cWhat\u2019s going on?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe goes: \u201cWell, I\u2019m sitting in an ambulance. My leg is bended in a spot it shouldn\u2019t be bended.\u201d And he starts laughing. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m like, \u201cAlright, buddy; what\u2019s going on?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe said, \u201cLet me tell you,\u201d\u2014so he starts telling me. He\u2019s leaving his youth facility; and he said: \u201cMan, I was running late. Man, I was coming out of my youth facility.\u201d His glasses are really thick. It was really cold in his youth facility, like air-conditioned. As he left the cold to the heat\u2014kind of fogged up his glasses. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo he goes and he gets in his Honda Accord. His wife had yelled at him for being late; alright\u2014so he said, \u201cMan, I started up my Honda Accord.\u201d He said, \u201cI knew the parking lot was empty,\u201d because youth pastors are usually the last people to leave a building; right? And he said, \u201cIn the back of my mind, I\u2019m thinking, \u2018I\u2019m running late,\u2019\u201d\u2014so he says: \u201cI\u2019m running late. I\u2019m going almost 50 miles an hour. I\u2019m putting my glasses on.\u201d And he says: \u201cI\u2019m putting my glasses on. It becomes clear to me\u2014with my glasses, I\u2019m looking\u2014and right in front of me is this cement thing.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI said, \u201cWhat\u2019d you do?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe goes, \u201cI went, \u2018J\u2019! and then I hit it dead on.\u201d [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo I go, \u201cAll you got out was \u2018J\u2019?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe goes, \u201cMan, all I got out was \u2018J\u2019!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo we started laughing; right? I started going, \u201cIsn\u2019t that funny, man?\u2014like you got out \u2018J\u2019!\u201d And he was like, \u201cI know!\u201d I was like, \u201cMan, I wonder, if in heaven\u2014like\u00a0 Jacob, and Josiah, and Joseph\u2014[Laughter] \u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014I wonder if all these people were like, \u201cIs he talking about me?\u201d [Laughter] And Jesus is like, \u201cTypically, in these situations, guys, it\u2019s Me.\u201d You know? [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe reason we\u2019re all laughing is because it\u2019s silly; right? It\u2019s silly to think that he would have to say all of Jesus\u2019 name. How many of you know, as we\u2019re taught in the Lord\u2019s Prayer, that the Father knows what you need before you even petition? How many know that? How many of you believe that? How many of you believe, with me, it\u2019s silly \/ it is comedy\u2014right?\u2014it\u2019s comical to go, \u201cYou have to say \u2018Jesus.\u2019\u201d But did he have to, past \u201cJesus,\u201d say other things? If that\u2019s true, then he\u2019d have to do: \u201cJesus?\u201d \u201cYes.\u201d \u201cIn just a second, Jesus, I\u2019m going to hit a pole,\u201d [Laughter] \u201cand obviously there will be bleeding. Jesus, I pray that the paramedic will see the blood and be reminded upon what You shed upon the cross, Jesus.\u201d [Laughter] \u201cFor Your renown, let this happen.\u201d He didn\u2019t have time! You know what he got out?\u2014\u201cJ\u201d! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLet\u2019s say he didn\u2019t even get out \u201cJ.\u201d Let\u2019s say all he got out was [squeak] [Laughter]\u2014right?\u00a0 It\u2019s silly! It\u2019s silly to think you have to say it so that Jesus will know it because He knows it. You know why He knows it? Because He\u2019s been praying what you need right now well before you needed it. So guess what? Maybe on the drive over here, you didn\u2019t hold hands, and pray, and go, \u201cGod, rack out our marriage today.\u201d But guess who was praying for your marriage the whole drive in?\u2014Jesus \/ Jesus. [Applause] He\u2019s for you. Guess who\u2019s going to be praying for you tomorrow? Guess who\u2019s praying right now?\u2014Jesus. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, can we just pray together\u2014just where we are? Can we just go to the One who\u2019s been praying for us? Just with your heads bowed, can I ask you a really simple question? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tDoesn\u2019t all of this\u2014that we\u2019re looking at this afternoon\u2014really not hinge upon the good news of the gospel? You know, what\u2019s interesting is that this prayer from Jesus is for the elect. It\u2019s interesting that, over and over again, in Scripture, we see Jesus pushing in on behalf of His people \/ pushing in on behalf of His Kingdom\u2014but the beauty of that\u2014the beauty of that is that there\u2019s such good news if we are a part of the family of God, but such bad news if we\u2019re not.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAgain, don\u2019t lose sight\u2014don\u2019t lose sight that Jesus, in the garden before He is about to sacrifice Himself as the sacrificial lamb \/ as the great substitute for you, begins to pray for you. Maybe today, in this very moment, before we go even any further, you\u2019re already beginning to awaken to this reality that Jesus has been praying for your salvation. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tMaybe what you don\u2019t need is a better job \/ what you don\u2019t need is better ways to communicate\u2014all of those are good. Maybe what you don\u2019t need is the ability to shut up and listen \/ maybe what you don\u2019t need is better languaging. Maybe what you don\u2019t need is one more workbook\u2014all those are good\u2014but maybe what you really need is the primary thing, which is Jesus. What Jesus has been praying for you today is for you to wake up and realize you don\u2019t need to rededicate something that\u2019s never been dedicated in the first place. Maybe that\u2019s you, as a husband \/ maybe that\u2019s you, as a wife. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf you\u2019ve never asked Christ to step out of heaven \/ to step into your life, maybe today that\u2019s the very prayer that Jesus is not only praying for you but He\u2019s making available by what He did on the cross so that you could come to Him. So that\u2019s you\u2014if that is you, at this very moment, I just want to pray with you. You know what prayer is? Prayer is tuning your heart to the frequency of God\u2014it\u2019s having a dependant conversation with God. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf that\u2019s you, I just want to pray and then ask you to repeat, just in your own heart, if you agree in your spirit with what I\u2019m saying, these very words back to the Lord: \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tJesus, thank You that in the garden, 2,000 years ago, You prayed for my salvation. You prayed that I would be made one with You \/ one with the Father\u2014that even though sin separates me from the Father\u2014even though a holy, and a perfect, and a righteous God is separated from unholy, unrighteous, sinful me\u2014that Jesus, You came as the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Thank you, Jesus, that You lived a perfect life\u2014and that after You lived the perfect, the holy, the sinless life\u2014that You died a sinner\u2019s death on my behalf \/ that You paid the penalty that I should pay. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThank You that, Jesus, even then, 2,000 years ago, when you knew all that was happening\u2014you knew it was happening so that on a day like this I could have a way\u2014the only Way\u2014which is You. So Jesus, I receive that today\u2014I receive that. I give you all of me\u2014every single bit of me \/ not just one compartment\u2014but all of me. I don\u2019t want You just to come and fix my marriage, or fix my job, or fix one thing\u2014all of me. I\u2019m all in\u2014I\u2019m all in, Jesus. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThank You, Jesus, that they put Your body on a cross and then they took it off that cross, put it in a tomb, and three days later\u2014when they came back to check on that tomb\u2014it was empty because You conquered the grave. I need that resurrection power\u2014not just for my marriage \/ not just for my reputation\u2014those are just the symptoms. Start from within, God. Right now, I need that resurrection power\u2014strip me \/ raise me from old to new. Thank You, Jesus.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Studio]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>I\u2019m sitting and listening as David Nasser was wrapping up the message at the <em>I Still Do<\/em> one-day celebration of marriage that we hosted last year\u2014the message we\u2019ve been listening to today\u2014and what an encouragement for folks there that day to know, whatever they were facing, Jesus not only knows about it\u2014but He\u2019s praying for you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And also, David\u2019s plea for people, who don\u2019t know Jesus Christ and haven\u2019t placed their faith in Him for their forgiveness of sins. Here\u2019s the promise of the Bible\u2014John, Chapter 5, verse 24. These are Christ\u2019s words \/ Himself: \u201cTruly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears My Word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThere are listeners, right now, who are in the midst of death. The question is: \u201cWill you pass out of death to life?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe way you do that is by placing your faith in Christ. There is no better time than right now to become a follower of Christ and make a commitment to Him as Lord, Master, Redeemer, and Savior.
