Our host is the President of FamilyLife<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, Dennis Rainey, and I'm Bob Lepine. We\u2019ll hear some insights from Ann Wilson today about wives bonding with their husbands. She\u2019s got lots to say to wives today. Stay tuned.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd welcome to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>. Thanks for joining us on the Thursday edition. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>1:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI don\u2019t know how many of our guests, who join us at our <em>Weekend to Remember<\/em><sup>\u00ae <\/sup>marriage getaways or on our <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup> marriage cruise, come to these events thinking, \u201cI bet I\u2019m going to get poked and kicked in the tail while I\u2019m here this weekend.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> By whom?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> By the Holy Spirit. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Oh! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Not by their spouse!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Not by their spouse?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> No! And not by us! We\u2019re not going to do it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Oh, no!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> But I\u2019ll tell you what\u2014you come to some of these events\u2014and some of the messages you hear can have a stimulating impact in your thinking.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Especially, Bob, if they\u2019re coming out of Scripture. I mean, we all have a need for a wheel alignment from time to time. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> That\u2019s better than \u201cgetting kicked in the tail\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> It is.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014a wheel alignment.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> It is a little better, especially when you\u2019re speaking to women. [Laughter] We\u2019re just wanting you to know you\u2019re about to hear a very powerful message from Ann Wilson, who has been married to her husband Dave since 1981. I think our listeners are going to thoroughly enjoy listening to her. She gave this message while at sea.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> We were onboard the <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em> marriage cruise, back in February. We got all of the ladies together, and Ann talked about the need for a wife to honor her husband by respecting him.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I think she preached, Bob.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Well\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I think she did a little preaching in there.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> She did. She said that there are three areas where a wife needs to show respect to her husband. The first is with her attitude toward her husband. As we pick up with Part Two of the message, she\u2019s going to explain the second way a wife can show respect for her husband. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u00a0[Previously Recorded Message]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> Here\u2019s the second one\u2014it\u2019s your audio. In other words, what respect looks like to a man\u2014we can cheer him with our words. Our audio is really our words: \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tEphesians 4:29 says, \u201cDo not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths\u201d\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014listen to this part\u2014\u201cbut only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.\u201d Ah! If we could just memorize that and live it, wouldn\u2019t we be so good? Wouldn\u2019t we be so much better off? And I love \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tEphesians 4:15 because it says, \u201cSpeak the truth in love.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSome of us are so great at speaking the truth. I am just a verbal processor\u2014I just vomit it all out. Some of you are like that; aren\u2019t you?\u2014you\u2019re verbally processing. Things come out that I wish I could put back in. I can speak the truth. And some of us are so loving \/ we\u2019re so caring\u2014we don\u2019t like conflict even\u2014we are only speaking good words. Sometimes, we hide some of the things that we feel; and we push them down. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBoth things are necessary. I think we need to speak truth. Our husbands need our opinions, and our thoughts, and what our ideas are. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut we need to be able to package it in a way that they receive it. I have learned, over the years, I cannot just verbally process where my thoughts are going with Dave. I need to take my thought\u2014I need to capture it. It says to \u201ctake our thoughts captive\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[2 Cor. 10:5]; right? I need to take it and pray: \u201cGod, should I say this to Dave?\u201d\u2014first of all\u2014\u201cWill it benefit him? Will it benefit us?\u201d Then, if God gives me the okay, my next prayer is, \u201cGod, help me to package it in a way that he will be able to hear me and accept what I say.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThis takes time. Don\u2019t you feel like: \u201cI don\u2019t have time for all that! I\u2019m busy!\u201d? I\u2019m telling you\u2014this is so critical! Sometimes, I need to put a little bow on it for him to accept it. Then, though, it\u2019s so worth it because he hears me. He hears my love, and I have to couch it in respect because I do respect him. I think it is so important.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, words\u2014what kind of words?\u2014praising them. Words that say: \u201cI\u2019m proud of you! I believe in you.\u201d I asked Dave, \u201cGive me your top three words that you long to hear\u2014top three sentences.\u201d I would challenge you to ask your husbands, \u201cWhat are the things that make you feel respected when I say them?\u201d Dave said: \u201cWhen you say, \u2018I believe in you.\u2019 When you say, \u2018I need you.\u2019 And when you say, \u2018I want you.\u2019\u201d Those were the three that he needs. Your husband is probably different. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI was in bed, reading one night. Dave walks out of the shower\u2014he\u2019s naked. He walks across the room, and he just\u2014you know, I\u2019m reading a book. So he gets in bed, and he puts his stuff on; and he says: \u201cWow! You don\u2019t even lift your head or care.\u201d I could tell that he was a little hurt. I thought, \u201cIf that makes him feel respected, then why can\u2019t I do that?\u201d So, the next time he gets out of the shower, and he has his towel around his waist, I lift my head from the book. I look at him and just say, \u201cMmm, mmm, mmmm!\u201d [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tEmerson Eggerichs\u2014do you know what he says? He says: \u201cWhen a man feels respect, it\u2019s like an air hose \/ it\u2019s like oxygen\u2014it brings him life!\u201d I remember one time we were eating\u2014I had just read this stuff, and I was trying to be this student. We were going to pray; and I said, \u201cHey, guys\/boys\u2014before we eat, I just want to say: \u2018Dave, thank you for being the provider in our family. Thank you for supplying all this food on our table and for our house.\u2019\u201d The boys were like: \u201cMom! What are you doing?\u201d I said: \u201cNo! You guys need to know that your dad is amazing!\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tDave said: \u201cI could see the book on the hutch\u2014<em>Love and Respect<\/em>\u2014I saw it! [Laughter] I knew she was only doing what they told her to do, and I didn\u2019t even care!\u201d He said, \u201cIt felt so good!\u201d He was like: \u201cI am the man! That\u2019s right!\u201d [Laughter] How hard is that?\u2014just to verbally affirm that he\u2019s the man? \u201cThank you,\u201d \u201cI\u2019m proud of you,\u201d \u201cI believe in you,\u201d\u2014those are things a husband wants\u2014to become the man we see him becoming! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat is the picture that you\u2019re painting for him to become? The more we paint the picture of who we see God has made them to be, the more they want to live up to who we think they are. They need us to be cheering for them with our words. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd then, finally, this\u2014oh, let me add this about words: Words of silence. Can we just be quiet sometimes? [Laughter] You know the number one complaint of men? \u201cMy wife nags too much and talks too much.\u201d I don\u2019t know if you guys have read the book, <em>Love and Respect, <\/em>but in it Emerson says that he did this study with second-grade, sixth-grade, tenth-grade, and twenty-five year-olds. From each age group, he took two boys and then two girls\u2014of each of those age groups. He put them in a room with two chairs. So, he put the two second-graders, then the two sixth-graders\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tEvery time the girls walked in the room, no matter what the age group, the girls turned the chairs to face one another. They talked verbally and expressed communication\u2014they bonded through communication. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tEvery single time the boys walked into the room\u2014even the twenty-five- year-olds\u2014they left the chairs, facing forward, and sat in the chairs, sitting, shoulder to shoulder. They still talked, but what they found in these studies was that men bond through doing things together. In other words, they don\u2019t bond through communication\u2014they bond through shoulder-to-shoulder things that they do together\u2014which takes me, then, to the last point.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOur men long for a cheerleader, and they long for respect through our actions \/ your actions. Ephesians 4:32 says, \u201cBe kind and compassionate to each other, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.\u201d How are you doing with your actions and showing your respect?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWith Willard Harley\u2014he was saying\u2014this totally makes sense\u2014\u201cMen bond through golfing\u201d; don\u2019t they?\u2014or hunting? How much talking goes on during some of these things? None! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tDoesn\u2019t your husband golf and you say: \u201cHey! How\u2019s John doing?\u201d \u201cI don\u2019t know.\u201d You\u2019re like, \u201cYou were with him for <em>four <\/em>hours!\u201d [Laughter] \u201cI know.\u201d I say, \u201cSo what did you talk about?\u201d \u201cWe said, \u2018Nice shot,\u2019 you know, \u201cWhat\u2019s your handicap?\u2019\u201d I said, \u201cI would know the name of my friend\u2019s mother\u2019s grandmother\u2019s maiden name\u201d; you know?\u2014because, as women, we verbally communicate. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe point is this\u2014sometimes we just need to do fun things with our husbands. One of their top needs is a recreational companion. When is the last time you guys just laughed? That\u2019s why this cruise is so fun; isn\u2019t it? We get lazy; and we\u2019re so driven by our demands of life, that we stop laughing and having fun together.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tDave will say this: \u201cAnn, come in here and watch this football game with me.\u201d Now, I\u2019m thinking\u2014I say this: \u201cAre we going to talk?\u201d \u201cNo! We\u2019re not going to talk! It would wreck it.\u201d I say, \u201cWell, then it\u2019s a waste of time.\u201d But, shoulder to shoulder, what\u2019s happening?\u2014we\u2019re somehow bonding. [Laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m thinking: \u201cI wish I could go sit and watch TV. I\u2019ve got so much stuff to do! Why aren\u2019t you emptying the dishwasher and getting things ready for tomorrow?\u201d You know?\u2014our attitude! In our head, we start making our case. Why not just go in and have fun and laugh? Do fun things together! I am not good at this because I\u2019m a task-oriented person. So for me to just sit down and have fun\u2014and I would say this too\u2014sex. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI try to surprise Dave with crazy things\u2014things that will just catch him off-guard. I feel like we, as women, get so resentful that we don\u2019t make this area a priority. It helps me to get my mind on things. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI was teaching this Bible study with the Lions\u2019 wives. This woman had been married and was celebrating her one-year anniversary. I said, \u201cWhat are you doing for the anniversary?\u201d She said: \u201cOh, my gosh! Carl is taking me to this restaurant in downtown Detroit. He rented a limo. It\u2019s going to be amazing!\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI said, \u201cBut what are <em>you <\/em>doing for him?\u201d She goes, \u201cI\u2019m going to go.\u201d [Laughter] I said: \u201cNo! You need to buy something! Come on! Let\u2019s go shopping.\u201d I said, \u201cJust buy something that you feel comfortable in \/ that you feel beautiful in\u2014that fits your taste.\u201d She bought something, and she wore it underneath. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tShe called me the next morning\u2014she is like: \u201cOh, my gosh, Ann! My husband was <em>shocked<\/em>, first of all, because I never do anything like that,\u201d\u2014and he never went to Bible study and was not a believer. He said: \u201cWhat in the world has happened to you? Where did you get this idea? I know this didn\u2019t come from you.\u201d And she said, \u201cIt was from our Bible study.\u201d [Laughter] He goes, \u201cI don\u2019t want you to ever miss one of those Bible studies again! [Laughter] The next week, Carl was sitting on our couch at the Bible study. He gave his life to Christ\u2014they became missionaries! [Applause]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI know! We are such influencers. You know, the thing is we get so resentful; and Satan gets a foothold in our thoughts. He gets a foothold in our attitudes, in our words, and in our actions. What if we surrendered those to Jesus? What if we gave them to Him? What would that look like? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen Dave and I\u2014I was asked to speak to the chaplains\u2019 wives in the NFL\u2014they asked me to go down to Cincinnati. I was so excited about it because I was going to get to speak on marriage. I picked up this book\u2014this is years ago\u2014by Larry Crabb, called <em>Men and Women: Enjoying the Differences<\/em>. In it, Larry\u2019s talking about how we think our men are going to meet our needs; and they were never meant to meet our needs! Only God can meet our needs.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe put all our hope and expectations in our husbands when they\u2019re never supposed to be that. God is supposed to be that! I was underlining that book like: \u201cYes! Yes! This is so good!\u201d In the meantime, I\u2019m driving this\u2014it\u2019s that same Honda, where the headlight\u2019s out. My trip is in a month; and I say: \u201cDave, that headlight\u2019s out in the car. Could you get that fixed before my trip?\u201d\u2014because he\u2019s a tightwad, and I know he will not want to pay somebody to do it; so he\u2019ll want to do it himself. He\u2019s like: \u201cAbsolutely. I\u2019ll get that done before your trip.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tEvery week, I\u2019m saying to Dave, \u201cDid you fix the headlight yet?\u201d \u201cNo, I will, though.\u201d It\u2019s the day before: \u201cHoney,\u201d\u2014trying to be respectful\u2014\u201cum, did you fix the headlight?\u201d \u201cOh, Ann! You know what? Tomorrow\u2014I know you leave. I have a meeting in the morning. On the way home, I\u2019ll fix the headlight and then you\u2019re good to go.\u201d I am like, \u201cAlright, but don\u2019t forget.\u201d \u201cI\u2019m not going to forget.\u201d Sure enough, he pulls in the driveway\u2014he is a little bit late. I throw my suitcase in \/ I give him a kiss. I get in the car and, \u201cYou fixed the headlight?\u201d \u201cOh, Ann!\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI look at him like, \u201cAre you kidding me?!\u201d\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014the attitude \/ like my whole attitude\u2014I said, \u201cYou\u2019ve had a <em>month<\/em> to fix the headlight!\u201d He is like: \u201cOh! I\u2019m going to do it right now.\u201d He goes: \u201cBoys! Get in the van!\u201d So the boys come out; he\u2019s throwing them in our mini-van. He says: \u201cGo to Kmart<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>. I\u2019ll follow you!\u201d \u201cYou\u2019ve had one month! I\u2019m not going to follow you to Kmart!\u201d He\u2019s like: \u201cGet in!\u201d\u2014he\u2019s throwing my youngest son in the car, without his car seat\u2014like there\u2019s no car seat\u2014he\u2019s just throwing him in the car: [Laughter] \u201cGet in the car!!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI am <em>so mad<\/em> right now because it feels like everything else is always a priority and not me. I\u2019m driving. I can\u2019t even tell you how angry I am. He\u2019s right behind me now, and I am so mad. I start, in my head\u2014start thinking of all the things I did\u2014like: \u201cI made all of those meals for him. I made all of them, and I put the little recipe and when to put it in, and at what temperature, and all that stuff\u2014I stuck that in there. I even put Scripture notes around the house. What did he do for me?\u2014nothing!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cI am such a good wife. Does he ever think of me? No! I am the last priority. Everything comes first\u2014the church \/ everybody else. Everybody\u2019s needs come first. I am the last thing. He doesn\u2019t care! He doesn\u2019t love me \/ doesn\u2019t live out the Bible.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m driving; and all of this is just like \u201cUgggh!\u201d It\u2019s just like storing it down; you know?\u2014all my hurt and my rage, and I\u2019m just driving. It feels good. It feels good because I\u2019m so right. Have you ever done this? [Laughter] I feel like I look better too\u2014I needed some of that! [Laughter] I\u2019m driving; and I\u2019m like\u2014I mean, I don\u2019t want anything to do with God\u2014and I feel like God says, \u201cWhat are you doing?\u201d Oh, when you know God\u2019s speaking to you, and you don\u2019t want to hear it, I turn up my radio\u2014LOUD! [Laughter]\u2014like really loud! \u201cI\u2019m going to sit in this for a while because it feels so good to sit in it.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I\u2019m driving; and I feel like the Holy Spirit says, \u201cWhat about all those things you read?\u201d \u201cNooo, that doesn\u2019t count, God! This is counting right now. He had a month!\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd I felt like God was saying, \u201cTake it out and give it to Me.\u201d Oh, I didn\u2019t want to do it! Sometimes, our hurts\u2014we almost hold onto them as a barrier to our heart. I felt like God was saying, \u201cLet Me have all of it.\u201d I told God\u2014and I was raging: \u201cGod, I feel like he doesn\u2019t see me. He doesn\u2019t care about me. He doesn\u2019t love me. I\u2019m not a priority.\u201d I vented all of it to God. I think we need to vent all of it to God; don\u2019t we?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWomen, we need good sisters and friends that we can vent to\u2014who are safe \/ who will not gossip\u2014who will hear you \/ who will pray for you\u2014who will love you, and encourage you, and speak truth to you. We need that; don\u2019t we? [Applause] We need God\u2019s Word! Had I not been in God\u2019s Word, I would not even have heard the Holy Spirit. We have to be in God\u2019s Word so He can speak to us, He can encourage us, and He can love us. We need to be with people and places where God\u2019s Word\u2014I have in there\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014like God\u2019s Spirit\u2014to listen to the Spirit and obey \/ that we don\u2019t quench His Spirit. I cannot live without my friends. I cannot live without God\u2019s Word. I cannot live without my relationship with God because I am so flawed, but <em>He<\/em> can equip us to be the women that He wants us to be. <em>He<\/em> can give us the power to respect our husband the way that he wants us to.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe pull into Kmart. Dave\u2019s running in; and I\u2019m still giving it, giving it, giving it\u2014like: \u201cLord, I\u2019m giving it to You. You know my heart. I know that You love me, and I surrender it to You. I surrender Dave to You again. Help me to be the wife that I need to be because I want to hurt him.\u201d All of that was ammunition\u2014it was ammunition for later because we use our words as weapons; don\u2019t we? We can slice them and dice them. If I didn\u2019t get rid of it, I would hurt him badly. I don\u2019t want to\u2014I want him to be the man that God created him to be.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe gets done, and he comes to the window. He is like: \u201cI\u2019m so sorry. Are you okay?\u201d And he\u2019s waiting\u2014like he\u2019s just waiting for the, \u201cArggggh!\u201d [Laughter] I said, \u201cHoney, I\u2019m okay.\u201d I said, \u201cI still need to talk about it later,\u201d because I need to tell him it\u2019s not about the headlight; is it? It has nothing to do with the headlight\u2014it has to do with feeling like: \u201cI matter to you, and that I\u2019m important, and that I have time in your life.\u201d It was one of those gifts that I gave to Dave that I don\u2019t always give. But it was a gift that I gave him of my unconditional respect and love. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s funny\u2014I think about my parents and how I said that my mom was a doormat. My parents have been married 65 years in April. [Applause] I know. They have become believers; and for the last nine years, my mom has been struggling with Alzheimer\u2019s. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne of the most inspiring things I\u2019ve ever seen in my life is watching my dad, who I felt like was so self-centered, who took her for granted\u2014but my mom just loved him, and served him, and believed in him, and cheered for him. To watch him\u2014he does everything for her. She only recognizes two people\u2014my dad and me. He puts lotion on her arms. He cooks all of her food. He does all of the laundry. He cleans the house\u2014things that I\u2019ve never in my life seen him do. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI told him, \u201cDad, I respect you so much!\u201d He\u2019s like, \u201cHow could I not?\u201d He said: \u201cShe\u2019s my partner\u2014she\u2019s my girl. She\u2019s loved me so well her whole life. How could I not do the same for her because she\u2019s made me who I am.\u201d The parts that\u2014when I looked at her, I thought were so weak\u2014my dad told me she would come to him and she would always speak her mind, in the bedroom, with respect\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014just because she wasn\u2019t ranting and railing, as I was doing in the other room. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Emotion in voice] I want to be that! And it starts with our surrender to Jesus! Can I tell you how much He loves you? How He knows you? How He sees you? How He longs to walk with you and comfort you? How He longs to encourage you and use you? All of your gifts \/ all of your wonderful traits\u2014He sees them. Let Him be your best friend! Let Him be your Redeemer and your Savior! Let Him change us! We can make a world of difference because your greatest witnessing tool in the future will be your marriage. We, as women, are powerful! Let us surrender to the King, who can give us the strength and power we need to become the women He wants us to be.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>21:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Studio]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Again, today, we\u2019ve been listening to Part Two of Ann Wilson speaking to wives onboard the <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em> marriage cruise, back in February. Thanks for joining us on the Thursday edition. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>1:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI don\u2019t know how many of our guests, who join us at our <em>Weekend to Remember<\/em><sup>\u00ae <\/sup>marriage getaways or on our <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup> marriage cruise, come to these events thinking, \u201cI bet I\u2019m going to get poked and kicked in the tail while I\u2019m here this weekend.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> By whom?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> By the Holy Spirit. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Oh! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Not by their spouse!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Not by their spouse?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> No! And not by us! We\u2019re not going to do it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Oh, no!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> But I\u2019ll tell you what\u2014you come to some of these events\u2014and some of the messages you hear can have a stimulating impact in your thinking.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Especially, Bob, if they\u2019re coming out of Scripture. I mean, we all have a need for a wheel alignment from time to time. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> That\u2019s better than \u201cgetting kicked in the tail\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> It is.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014a wheel alignment.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> It is a little better, especially when you\u2019re speaking to women. [Laughter] We\u2019re just wanting you to know you\u2019re about to hear a very powerful message from Ann Wilson, who has been married to her husband Dave since 1981. I think our listeners are going to thoroughly enjoy listening to her. She gave this message while at sea.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> We were onboard the <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em> marriage cruise, back in February. We got all of the ladies together, and Ann talked about the need for a wife to honor her husband by respecting him.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I think she preached, Bob.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Well\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I think she did a little preaching in there.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> She did. She said that there are three areas where a wife needs to show respect to her husband. The first is with her attitude toward her husband. As we pick up with Part Two of the message, she\u2019s going to explain the second way a wife can show respect for her husband. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u00a0[Previously Recorded Message]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> Here\u2019s the second one\u2014it\u2019s your audio. In other words, what respect looks like to a man\u2014we can cheer him with our words. Our audio is really our words: \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tEphesians 4:29 says, \u201cDo not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths\u201d\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014listen to this part\u2014\u201cbut only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.\u201d Ah! If we could just memorize that and live it, wouldn\u2019t we be so good? Wouldn\u2019t we be so much better off? And I love \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tEphesians 4:15 because it says, \u201cSpeak the truth in love.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSome of us are so great at speaking the truth. I am just a verbal processor\u2014I just vomit it all out. Some of you are like that; aren\u2019t you?\u2014you\u2019re verbally processing. Things come out that I wish I could put back in. I can speak the truth. And some of us are so loving \/ we\u2019re so caring\u2014we don\u2019t like conflict even\u2014we are only speaking good words. Sometimes, we hide some of the things that we feel; and we push them down. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBoth things are necessary. I think we need to speak truth. Our husbands need our opinions, and our thoughts, and what our ideas are. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut we need to be able to package it in a way that they receive it. I have learned, over the years, I cannot just verbally process where my thoughts are going with Dave. I need to take my thought\u2014I need to capture it. It says to \u201ctake our thoughts captive\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[2 Cor. 10:5]; right? I need to take it and pray: \u201cGod, should I say this to Dave?\u201d\u2014first of all\u2014\u201cWill it benefit him? Will it benefit us?\u201d Then, if God gives me the okay, my next prayer is, \u201cGod, help me to package it in a way that he will be able to hear me and accept what I say.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThis takes time. Don\u2019t you feel like: \u201cI don\u2019t have time for all that! I\u2019m busy!\u201d? I\u2019m telling you\u2014this is so critical! Sometimes, I need to put a little bow on it for him to accept it. Then, though, it\u2019s so worth it because he hears me. He hears my love, and I have to couch it in respect because I do respect him. I think it is so important.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, words\u2014what kind of words?\u2014praising them. Words that say: \u201cI\u2019m proud of you! I believe in you.\u201d I asked Dave, \u201cGive me your top three words that you long to hear\u2014top three sentences.\u201d I would challenge you to ask your husbands, \u201cWhat are the things that make you feel respected when I say them?\u201d Dave said: \u201cWhen you say, \u2018I believe in you.\u2019 When you say, \u2018I need you.\u2019 And when you say, \u2018I want you.\u2019\u201d Those were the three that he needs. Your husband is probably different. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI was in bed, reading one night. Dave walks out of the shower\u2014he\u2019s naked. He walks across the room, and he just\u2014you know, I\u2019m reading a book. So he gets in bed, and he puts his stuff on; and he says: \u201cWow! You don\u2019t even lift your head or care.\u201d I could tell that he was a little hurt. I thought, \u201cIf that makes him feel respected, then why can\u2019t I do that?\u201d So, the next time he gets out of the shower, and he has his towel around his waist, I lift my head from the book. I look at him and just say, \u201cMmm, mmm, mmmm!\u201d [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tEmerson Eggerichs\u2014do you know what he says? He says: \u201cWhen a man feels respect, it\u2019s like an air hose \/ it\u2019s like oxygen\u2014it brings him life!\u201d I remember one time we were eating\u2014I had just read this stuff, and I was trying to be this student. We were going to pray; and I said, \u201cHey, guys\/boys\u2014before we eat, I just want to say: \u2018Dave, thank you for being the provider in our family. Thank you for supplying all this food on our table and for our house.\u2019\u201d The boys were like: \u201cMom! What are you doing?\u201d I said: \u201cNo! You guys need to know that your dad is amazing!\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tDave said: \u201cI could see the book on the hutch\u2014<em>Love and Respect<\/em>\u2014I saw it! [Laughter] I knew she was only doing what they told her to do, and I didn\u2019t even care!\u201d He said, \u201cIt felt so good!\u201d He was like: \u201cI am the man! That\u2019s right!\u201d [Laughter] How hard is that?\u2014just to verbally affirm that he\u2019s the man? \u201cThank you,\u201d \u201cI\u2019m proud of you,\u201d \u201cI believe in you,\u201d\u2014those are things a husband wants\u2014to become the man we see him becoming! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat is the picture that you\u2019re painting for him to become? The more we paint the picture of who we see God has made them to be, the more they want to live up to who we think they are. They need us to be cheering for them with our words. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd then, finally, this\u2014oh, let me add this about words: Words of silence. Can we just be quiet sometimes? [Laughter] You know the number one complaint of men? \u201cMy wife nags too much and talks too much.\u201d I don\u2019t know if you guys have read the book, <em>Love and Respect, <\/em>but in it Emerson says that he did this study with second-grade, sixth-grade, tenth-grade, and twenty-five year-olds. From each age group, he took two boys and then two girls\u2014of each of those age groups. He put them in a room with two chairs. So, he put the two second-graders, then the two sixth-graders\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tEvery time the girls walked in the room, no matter what the age group, the girls turned the chairs to face one another. They talked verbally and expressed communication\u2014they bonded through communication. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tEvery single time the boys walked into the room\u2014even the twenty-five- year-olds\u2014they left the chairs, facing forward, and sat in the chairs, sitting, shoulder to shoulder. They still talked, but what they found in these studies was that men bond through doing things together. In other words, they don\u2019t bond through communication\u2014they bond through shoulder-to-shoulder things that they do together\u2014which takes me, then, to the last point.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOur men long for a cheerleader, and they long for respect through our actions \/ your actions. Ephesians 4:32 says, \u201cBe kind and compassionate to each other, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.\u201d How are you doing with your actions and showing your respect?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWith Willard Harley\u2014he was saying\u2014this totally makes sense\u2014\u201cMen bond through golfing\u201d; don\u2019t they?\u2014or hunting? How much talking goes on during some of these things? None! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tDoesn\u2019t your husband golf and you say: \u201cHey! How\u2019s John doing?\u201d \u201cI don\u2019t know.\u201d You\u2019re like, \u201cYou were with him for <em>four <\/em>hours!\u201d [Laughter] \u201cI know.\u201d I say, \u201cSo what did you talk about?\u201d \u201cWe said, \u2018Nice shot,\u2019 you know, \u201cWhat\u2019s your handicap?\u2019\u201d I said, \u201cI would know the name of my friend\u2019s mother\u2019s grandmother\u2019s maiden name\u201d; you know?\u2014because, as women, we verbally communicate. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe point is this\u2014sometimes we just need to do fun things with our husbands. One of their top needs is a recreational companion. When is the last time you guys just laughed? That\u2019s why this cruise is so fun; isn\u2019t it? We get lazy; and we\u2019re so driven by our demands of life, that we stop laughing and having fun together.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tDave will say this: \u201cAnn, come in here and watch this football game with me.\u201d Now, I\u2019m thinking\u2014I say this: \u201cAre we going to talk?\u201d \u201cNo! We\u2019re not going to talk! It would wreck it.\u201d I say, \u201cWell, then it\u2019s a waste of time.\u201d But, shoulder to shoulder, what\u2019s happening?\u2014we\u2019re somehow bonding. [Laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m thinking: \u201cI wish I could go sit and watch TV. I\u2019ve got so much stuff to do! Why aren\u2019t you emptying the dishwasher and getting things ready for tomorrow?\u201d You know?\u2014our attitude! In our head, we start making our case. Why not just go in and have fun and laugh? Do fun things together! I am not good at this because I\u2019m a task-oriented person. So for me to just sit down and have fun\u2014and I would say this too\u2014sex. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI try to surprise Dave with crazy things\u2014things that will just catch him off-guard. I feel like we, as women, get so resentful that we don\u2019t make this area a priority. It helps me to get my mind on things. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI was teaching this Bible study with the Lions\u2019 wives. This woman had been married and was celebrating her one-year anniversary. I said, \u201cWhat are you doing for the anniversary?\u201d She said: \u201cOh, my gosh! Carl is taking me to this restaurant in downtown Detroit. He rented a limo. It\u2019s going to be amazing!\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI said, \u201cBut what are <em>you <\/em>doing for him?\u201d She goes, \u201cI\u2019m going to go.\u201d [Laughter] I said: \u201cNo! You need to buy something! Come on! Let\u2019s go shopping.\u201d I said, \u201cJust buy something that you feel comfortable in \/ that you feel beautiful in\u2014that fits your taste.\u201d She bought something, and she wore it underneath. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tShe called me the next morning\u2014she is like: \u201cOh, my gosh, Ann! My husband was <em>shocked<\/em>, first of all, because I never do anything like that,\u201d\u2014and he never went to Bible study and was not a believer. He said: \u201cWhat in the world has happened to you? Where did you get this idea? I know this didn\u2019t come from you.\u201d And she said, \u201cIt was from our Bible study.\u201d [Laughter] He goes, \u201cI don\u2019t want you to ever miss one of those Bible studies again! [Laughter] The next week, Carl was sitting on our couch at the Bible study. He gave his life to Christ\u2014they became missionaries! [Applause]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI know! We are such influencers. You know, the thing is we get so resentful; and Satan gets a foothold in our thoughts. He gets a foothold in our attitudes, in our words, and in our actions. What if we surrendered those to Jesus? What if we gave them to Him? What would that look like? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen Dave and I\u2014I was asked to speak to the chaplains\u2019 wives in the NFL\u2014they asked me to go down to Cincinnati. I was so excited about it because I was going to get to speak on marriage. I picked up this book\u2014this is years ago\u2014by Larry Crabb, called <em>Men and Women: Enjoying the Differences<\/em>. In it, Larry\u2019s talking about how we think our men are going to meet our needs; and they were never meant to meet our needs! Only God can meet our needs.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe put all our hope and expectations in our husbands when they\u2019re never supposed to be that. God is supposed to be that! I was underlining that book like: \u201cYes! Yes! This is so good!\u201d In the meantime, I\u2019m driving this\u2014it\u2019s that same Honda, where the headlight\u2019s out. My trip is in a month; and I say: \u201cDave, that headlight\u2019s out in the car. Could you get that fixed before my trip?\u201d\u2014because he\u2019s a tightwad, and I know he will not want to pay somebody to do it; so he\u2019ll want to do it himself. He\u2019s like: \u201cAbsolutely. I\u2019ll get that done before your trip.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tEvery week, I\u2019m saying to Dave, \u201cDid you fix the headlight yet?\u201d \u201cNo, I will, though.\u201d It\u2019s the day before: \u201cHoney,\u201d\u2014trying to be respectful\u2014\u201cum, did you fix the headlight?\u201d \u201cOh, Ann! You know what? Tomorrow\u2014I know you leave. I have a meeting in the morning. On the way home, I\u2019ll fix the headlight and then you\u2019re good to go.\u201d I am like, \u201cAlright, but don\u2019t forget.\u201d \u201cI\u2019m not going to forget.\u201d Sure enough, he pulls in the driveway\u2014he is a little bit late. I throw my suitcase in \/ I give him a kiss. I get in the car and, \u201cYou fixed the headlight?\u201d \u201cOh, Ann!\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI look at him like, \u201cAre you kidding me?!\u201d\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014the attitude \/ like my whole attitude\u2014I said, \u201cYou\u2019ve had a <em>month<\/em> to fix the headlight!\u201d He is like: \u201cOh! I\u2019m going to do it right now.\u201d He goes: \u201cBoys! Get in the van!\u201d So the boys come out; he\u2019s throwing them in our mini-van. He says: \u201cGo to Kmart<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>. I\u2019ll follow you!\u201d \u201cYou\u2019ve had one month! I\u2019m not going to follow you to Kmart!\u201d He\u2019s like: \u201cGet in!\u201d\u2014he\u2019s throwing my youngest son in the car, without his car seat\u2014like there\u2019s no car seat\u2014he\u2019s just throwing him in the car: [Laughter] \u201cGet in the car!!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI am <em>so mad<\/em> right now because it feels like everything else is always a priority and not me. I\u2019m driving. I can\u2019t even tell you how angry I am. He\u2019s right behind me now, and I am so mad. I start, in my head\u2014start thinking of all the things I did\u2014like: \u201cI made all of those meals for him. I made all of them, and I put the little recipe and when to put it in, and at what temperature, and all that stuff\u2014I stuck that in there. I even put Scripture notes around the house. What did he do for me?\u2014nothing!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cI am such a good wife. Does he ever think of me? No! I am the last priority. Everything comes first\u2014the church \/ everybody else. Everybody\u2019s needs come first. I am the last thing. He doesn\u2019t care! He doesn\u2019t love me \/ doesn\u2019t live out the Bible.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m driving; and all of this is just like \u201cUgggh!\u201d It\u2019s just like storing it down; you know?\u2014all my hurt and my rage, and I\u2019m just driving. It feels good. It feels good because I\u2019m so right. Have you ever done this? [Laughter] I feel like I look better too\u2014I needed some of that! [Laughter] I\u2019m driving; and I\u2019m like\u2014I mean, I don\u2019t want anything to do with God\u2014and I feel like God says, \u201cWhat are you doing?\u201d Oh, when you know God\u2019s speaking to you, and you don\u2019t want to hear it, I turn up my radio\u2014LOUD! [Laughter]\u2014like really loud! \u201cI\u2019m going to sit in this for a while because it feels so good to sit in it.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I\u2019m driving; and I feel like the Holy Spirit says, \u201cWhat about all those things you read?\u201d \u201cNooo, that doesn\u2019t count, God! This is counting right now. He had a month!\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd I felt like God was saying, \u201cTake it out and give it to Me.\u201d Oh, I didn\u2019t want to do it! Sometimes, our hurts\u2014we almost hold onto them as a barrier to our heart. I felt like God was saying, \u201cLet Me have all of it.\u201d I told God\u2014and I was raging: \u201cGod, I feel like he doesn\u2019t see me. He doesn\u2019t care about me. He doesn\u2019t love me. I\u2019m not a priority.\u201d I vented all of it to God. I think we need to vent all of it to God; don\u2019t we?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWomen, we need good sisters and friends that we can vent to\u2014who are safe \/ who will not gossip\u2014who will hear you \/ who will pray for you\u2014who will love you, and encourage you, and speak truth to you. We need that; don\u2019t we? [Applause] We need God\u2019s Word! Had I not been in God\u2019s Word, I would not even have heard the Holy Spirit. We have to be in God\u2019s Word so He can speak to us, He can encourage us, and He can love us. We need to be with people and places where God\u2019s Word\u2014I have in there\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014like God\u2019s Spirit\u2014to listen to the Spirit and obey \/ that we don\u2019t quench His Spirit. I cannot live without my friends. I cannot live without God\u2019s Word. I cannot live without my relationship with God because I am so flawed, but <em>He<\/em> can equip us to be the women that He wants us to be. <em>He<\/em> can give us the power to respect our husband the way that he wants us to.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe pull into Kmart. Dave\u2019s running in; and I\u2019m still giving it, giving it, giving it\u2014like: \u201cLord, I\u2019m giving it to You. You know my heart. I know that You love me, and I surrender it to You. I surrender Dave to You again. Help me to be the wife that I need to be because I want to hurt him.\u201d All of that was ammunition\u2014it was ammunition for later because we use our words as weapons; don\u2019t we? We can slice them and dice them. If I didn\u2019t get rid of it, I would hurt him badly. I don\u2019t want to\u2014I want him to be the man that God created him to be.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe gets done, and he comes to the window. He is like: \u201cI\u2019m so sorry. Are you okay?\u201d And he\u2019s waiting\u2014like he\u2019s just waiting for the, \u201cArggggh!\u201d [Laughter] I said, \u201cHoney, I\u2019m okay.\u201d I said, \u201cI still need to talk about it later,\u201d because I need to tell him it\u2019s not about the headlight; is it? It has nothing to do with the headlight\u2014it has to do with feeling like: \u201cI matter to you, and that I\u2019m important, and that I have time in your life.\u201d It was one of those gifts that I gave to Dave that I don\u2019t always give. But it was a gift that I gave him of my unconditional respect and love. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s funny\u2014I think about my parents and how I said that my mom was a doormat. My parents have been married 65 years in April. [Applause] I know. They have become believers; and for the last nine years, my mom has been struggling with Alzheimer\u2019s. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne of the most inspiring things I\u2019ve ever seen in my life is watching my dad, who I felt like was so self-centered, who took her for granted\u2014but my mom just loved him, and served him, and believed in him, and cheered for him. To watch him\u2014he does everything for her. She only recognizes two people\u2014my dad and me. He puts lotion on her arms. He cooks all of her food. He does all of the laundry. He cleans the house\u2014things that I\u2019ve never in my life seen him do. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI told him, \u201cDad, I respect you so much!\u201d He\u2019s like, \u201cHow could I not?\u201d He said: \u201cShe\u2019s my partner\u2014she\u2019s my girl. She\u2019s loved me so well her whole life. How could I not do the same for her because she\u2019s made me who I am.\u201d The parts that\u2014when I looked at her, I thought were so weak\u2014my dad told me she would come to him and she would always speak her mind, in the bedroom, with respect\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014just because she wasn\u2019t ranting and railing, as I was doing in the other room. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Emotion in voice] I want to be that! And it starts with our surrender to Jesus! Can I tell you how much He loves you? How He knows you? How He sees you? How He longs to walk with you and comfort you? How He longs to encourage you and use you? All of your gifts \/ all of your wonderful traits\u2014He sees them. Let Him be your best friend! Let Him be your Redeemer and your Savior! Let Him change us! We can make a world of difference because your greatest witnessing tool in the future will be your marriage. We, as women, are powerful! This session was one of the sessions that passengers were talking about throughout the week.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And I\u2019m convinced they\u2019re probably applying now, several months later, Bob.
