I want you to tell the audience\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>1:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014I don\u2019t think I\u2019ve ever done this\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Putting me on the spot here. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I am. You\u2019ll understand in a moment. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Okay. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>In 22 years, I have never ever asked you to tell the audience: \u201cDennis, you were right.\u201d\u00a0 I came to you, and I said\u2014after the Hershey, Pennsylvania, <em>Weekend to Remember<\/em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, over Valentine\u2019s Day, a couple of years ago\u2014I came to you and I said, \u201cBob\u2014Bob, we have got to get Dave and Ann Wilson on our <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup> marriage cruise.\u201d\u00a0 It\u2019s not that you don\u2019t trust me\u2014it\u2019s just that you don\u2019t trust me. [Laughter]\u00a0 I could tell you just\u2014\u201cNow, I\u2019m not sure about this.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>That is not true. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u201cI\u2019m not sure about this.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>I had had the thought myself\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>OH!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014in the same weekend. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>OH!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>I had had the same thought. When you mentioned it,\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I get this now. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014this was just the confirmation of the Holy Spirit\u2014that I thought was accurate. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Ah, I\u2019m sorry that I misinterpreted your silence and your contemplative nature as something like mistrust or something. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>No, not at all. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>But anyway, he\u2014Bob did end up inviting Dave and Ann Wilson to speak. As a couple\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Now, you act like it\u2019s all up to me\u2014like I\u2019ve got the magic key to invite people on. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Well, you\u2019re in charge of the speaking talent. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Of the program?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Okay; alright. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Okay, so, you are in charge; okay?\u00a0 But Bob invited them. As a couple, they knocked it out of the park; but we also decided to put Dave Wilson up in front of the men. We piped in some smell of sweat into the big room we were meeting in on the <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em> cruise so the men would feel like it\u2019s a locker room. We let Coach Dave Wilson\u2014who is also the chaplain of the Detroit Lions and a pastor of a massive church there in the Detroit area \/ more than 15,000 people\u2014\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014we kind of gave him the charge: \u201cFire them up!\u00a0 Equip them. I was at this coaching conference\u2014all these different teams. I was meeting this guy from another school, and we were talking football. We\u2019re enjoying each other \/ enjoying talking football. About 15 minutes in, he goes: \u201cSo, you do\u2014you teach at that school?\u00a0 I mean, are you a fulltime teacher there?\u201d\u00a0 I go: \u201cNo, I\u2019m pure volunteer coach. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI show up whenever I want. They love me to be there when I can because I\u2019m all about developing boys into men, and football is a vehicle to do that. I love it!\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe goes, \u201cSo, what do you do?\u00a0 What\u2019s your real job?\u201d\u2014he had no idea. I go, \u201cWell, actually, I\u2019m a pastor.\u201d\u00a0 He stepped back. I know why he stepped back because he\u2019s like: \u201cI like this dude. Man, we\u2019re football guys. We\u2019re tough. He\u2019s like me, and we\u2019re like\u201d\u2014I said, \u201cI\u2019m a pastor.\u201d He\u2019s like, \u201cYou\u2019re a Christian, oh!\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI went from \u201cYou\u2019re tough \/ you\u2019re strong,\u201d to \u201cYou\u2019re a wimp,\u201d\u2014just like that. I know what he was thinking: \u201cYou\u2019re not only just a wimp\u2014you\u2019re a super wimp because you\u2019re not just a Christian\u2014you\u2019re a pastor!\u201d\u00a0 I thought: \u201cWow! Isn\u2019t that interesting? That is the culture\u2019s definition of a man.\u201d\u00a0 The opposite is true\u2014a real man engages with God. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou know what\u2019s really interesting?\u00a0 In the David and Goliath story, when David goes to King Saul\u2014because he says: \u201cYou can\u2019t go fight. You\u2019re a boy,\u201d\u2014you know what David says?\u00a0 He basically says: \u201cI\u2019m a shepherd. When I\u2019m out taking care of the sheep, and a lion or bear come, I do what?\u00a0 I kill it.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe usually read over that like, \u201cWell, yes, he kills a bear.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNo, think about it\u2014he, literally, kills the bear. What does he say to Saul?\u2014he says, \u201cThe Lord\u2014your servant has killed both the lion and the bear\u2014this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them because he has defied the armies of the Living God.\u201d\u00a0 In verse 37, he says, \u201cThe Lord who rescued me from the paw of this lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.\u201d\u00a0 Saul said to David, \u201cGo, and the Lord be with you.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br>What did Saul sense?\u00a0 Not only does he have physical strength\u2014he sensed this guy has spiritual strength. What was David saying?\u00a0 He was saying, \u201cWhen nobody is looking, when it\u2019s just me alone, I\u2019m engaging with God.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s what he is saying: \u201cI\u2019m getting to know God. I understand God. I understand God\u2019s power. <em>I know God<\/em>. I don\u2019t know about God\u2014<em>I know God<\/em>.\u201d\u00a0 That, in a sense, was enough for the king to go: \u201cOkay, you go because you are not going alone. You\u2019re going with God.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tA real man spends private time alone, cultivating his walk with God. Do you hear what I\u2019m saying?\u00a0 It isn\u2019t once a week church\u2014it\u2019s like: \u201cWord of God\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014\u201cthey know it.\u201d\u00a0 Do you know the Word of God?\u00a0 When somebody tells you to turn to a book in the Bible, do you know where it is?\u00a0 See, a real man engages with God\u2014pursues Him. It isn\u2019t: \u201cTry hard to be like Jesus,\u201d\u2014it\u2019s: \u201c<em>Train<\/em> to be like Jesus.\u201d\u00a0 You know the difference?\u00a0 You can\u2019t try hard\u2014that\u2019s the\u201480 percent of the church is like, \u201cI\u2019ve got to try hard to be like Jesus.\u201d\u00a0 No, you\u2019ve got to <em>train<\/em>. See, when you train, you put your life in an exercise pattern to train you to be like Jesus. \u201cYou cross-train\u201d\u2014I call it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI remember, years ago, I had back surgery. My surgeon said, \u201cIf you want to get your core strong, do P90X.\u201d\u00a0 Anybody do P90X?\u00a0 Come on\u2014show of hands. So, I got the P90X thing. The first day\u2014it is just chest and back. Do you guys know what chest and back is?\u2014push-ups, pull-ups \/ push-ups, pull-ups\u2014back and forth. Tony Horton says on there, \u201cIf you can\u2019t do pull-ups, just get a chair and do them.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe first day of P90X\u2014I\u2019m not kidding\u2014I\u2019m so embarrassed to say this\u2014I did one pull-up\u201490 days later, doing chest and back every Monday through that thing because you go around to that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m not saying this to say, \u201cHey, wow!\u201d\u00a0 I\u2019m showing you what training does\u201490 days later, I\u2019m doing 25\/30 pull-ups. How does that happen?\u2014training. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou get in the Word of God daily. You spend time to pursue God like you pursued your wife before you were married. I would jump in the car after a football game on Saturday afternoon, drive to the University of Kentucky\u2014it took three-and-a-half hours\u2014spent a half hour with her, and drove back three-and-a-half hours. Seven-hour trip for a half-hour with her\u2014nobody even blinked because that\u2019s what you do when you\u2019re in love. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tMen\u2014engage with God. If I had only one pillar to talk about, this would be the one. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThird one is: \u201cAccepts responsibility.\u201d\u00a0 Again, this is right from Robert Lewis\u2019s material\u2014\u201cAccepts responsibility.\u201d\u00a0 David goes to the king, and he says what?\u2014verse 32\u2014he says: \u201cLet no one lose heart on account of this giant, this Philistine. Your servant will go and fight him.\u201d\u00a0 He says, \u201cI accept responsibility.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cNone of these boys are,\u201d\u2014he didn\u2019t say that\u2014but he was saying: \u201cA man accepts responsibility for the bad he\u2019s done in his life \/ for the good he\u2019s done in his life. When a man needs to step up and do something, a man does. He accepts responsibility and says, \u2018I will fight.\u2019\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI wrote in my notes, \u201cIt\u2019s always easier to wait for someone else.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s what boys do\u2014they wait for somebody to step up\u2014and then, that\u2019s a boy. I\u2019ll tell you what\u2014honestly, you know who is stepping up in our culture?\u2014women. Again, I love women \/ I love that they are strong. A lot of times, they don\u2019t want to step up; but they step up because\u2014why?\u2014there is no strong men around\u2014so they will. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br>It\u2019s always easier to make excuses. Have you ever made excuses?\u00a0 Yes\u2014it\u2019s a part of our DNA. The first man, Adam, was the big excuse-maker. We do the same thing. You know, when God came looking for them, after they ate the apple \/ ate the fruit\u2014what did Adam say?\u00a0 He said: \u201cHey, God you don\u2019t want to talk to me. You want to talk to apple-breath over here. That\u2019s who you want to talk to\u201d; right?\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 No, actually, what did he say?\u2014he said, \u201cThe woman that You gave me\u2026\u201d\u00a0 He blamed God.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe do the same thing\u2014we make excuses. Boys make excuses \/ men accept responsibility. I wrote in my notes: \u201cIt\u2019s <em>my<\/em> responsibility to be the man in my home. It\u2019s <em>my<\/em> responsibility to love Ann. It\u2019s <em>my<\/em> responsibility to lead her and our kids spiritually. It\u2019s <em>my<\/em> responsibility to provide, to protect and pastor her.\u201d\u00a0 Those are the three words I teach the men at our church. You are called, as the man of your home, to provide, to protect, and pastor\u2014no excuses. Is it hard?\u2014yes. Do I have what it takes to do it?\u2014no; but if I engage with God, He gives me power to be that man in my life. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI can remember when I was in college\u2014I realized, early, that I\u2019m called, now, as a follower in Christ, to share the Good News. I was\u2014I flew down to see my dad in Florida. He ended up living in Florida, in West Palm Beach. I spent a few days with him on spring break my senior year. And then, I was going to drive \/ rent a car and drive up to the Campus Crusade for Christ spring break on the beach, where we are going to share Christ\u2014never done this before. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAs I\u2019m driving north, about four or five hours, I think\u2014I pray to God. I go, \u201cGod,\u201d\u2014I don\u2019t even know how to pray yet. I\u2019m so new at this\u2014I\u2019m like, \u201cGod, if You want me to share You with somebody on the way, put them in my car; and I\u2019ll do it.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI am not kidding. A minute later, there was a big dude hitchhiking. I looked at him\u2014he had this big bag. He was a big dude, and he\u2019s hitchhiking. He didn\u2019t look real nice. As I got closer, I\u2019m like: \u201cNo way, God. I\u2019m not picking that guy up.\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 I didn\u2019t even think that was an answer to prayer that God would do that like a minute later. So, I just drove right by. I looked at the guy, and he just did this\u2014I went by. My mom always told me, \u201cDon\u2019t pick up hitchhikers.\u201d\u00a0 So, I was being a good boy; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br>So, I drove by\u2014and I don\u2019t know how God talks to you. I didn\u2019t know yet. I was just new, but I sensed in my spirit: \u201cTurn around. You prayed for a guy to talk to. That\u2019s the guy. Turn around.\u201d\u00a0 I\u2019m like: \u201cNope. Not going to do it.\u201d\u00a0 So, I kept driving; and it wouldn\u2019t go away. So, I saw this illegal U-turn in the middle of the highway\u2014you\u2019re not supposed to do\u2014but \u201cIf you\u2019re doing it for God, you can do it.\u201d\u00a0 So, I did a U-turn [Laughter]; right?! And I went down\u2014I did another illegal U-turn, and\u2014\u201cIt\u2019s a catch for God.\u201d So, I\u2019m driving back north. I\u2019m thinking, \u201cThe guy\u2019s gone by now.\u201d\u00a0 And there he was. So, I said, \u201cOkay, God, here we go.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI pull over, and he gets in my car\u2014throws his big duffle bag in the back\u2014big old dude.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, we start talking. His name was Jim. I go, \u201cHey, Jim, what do you do?\u201d\u00a0 He goes, \u201cI\u2019m a Navy SEAL.\u201d\u00a0 When he said that, I got so scared\u2014I\u2019m not kidding. I thought, \u201cThere\u2019s no way I\u2019m sharing Christ with this guy because if he doesn\u2019t want to hear about Jesus, he\u2019ll just reach over and\u2014kink\u2014and I\u2019m dead.\u201d\u00a0 You know?\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 That\u2019s what those guys do; right?\u00a0 They are trained to do that. So, I\u2019m like, \u201cNot going to go there\u201d; right?\u00a0 So, we just kept driving. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe\u2019s in my car like three hours\u2014<em>never<\/em> mentioned God\/Jesus. The whole time, the Holy Spirit is saying: \u201cYou prayed. You said you\u2019d share. Here he is\u2014share Christ with him.\u201d\u00a0 So, right before I\u2019m about to drop him off\u2014hiss exit is a little before where I\u2019m going to get off\u2014I said to him this\u2014I just go, \u201cOkay, God, here it goes.\u201d\u00a0 I go: \u201cHey, Jim, you ever think about God?\u00a0 You ever think about Jesus and spiritual things?\u201d\u00a0 That was my big opening line. I didn\u2019t know what I was doing. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019ll never forget\u2014he\u2019s sitting there\u2014and he goes, \u201cI can\u2019t believe you just asked me that.\u201d\u00a0 Then, I\u2019m like, \u201cOH NO!\u201d\u2014[Laughter] \u2014you know. I go, \u201cOh, why is that?\u201d\u00a0 He goes, \u201cMy life is a wreck!\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI go, \u201cWhat?\u201d He goes, \u201cI was standing on that road\u2014I won\u2019t even tell you how I ended up on this road, needing a ride\u2014but I prayed the only prayer I\u2019ve ever prayed in my life.\u201d\u00a0 I go, \u201cWhat?\u201d\u00a0 He goes, \u201cI said, \u2018God, if You are real and You\u2019re up there, send me one of Your followers to tell me about You.\u2019\u201d\u00a0 He goes, \u201cWould that be you?\u201d\u00a0 I go, \u201cYes, that\u2019d be me,\u201d [Laughter]\u2014UNBELIEVABLE!\u00a0 [Applause]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m this new Christian, and I don\u2019t know how God works. So, I share the gospel as limited as I knew. All I knew was: \u201cGod loves me. We\u2019re sinners. He died on the cross to pay for that, and you can be born-again right here in my car.\u201d\u00a0 We were sitting now on the shoulder\u2014because it took 30 minutes before we could get off at his exit. He gave his life to Jesus, right there in my car that day. Why?\u2014reject passivity, engage with God, accept responsibility. This isn\u2019t a preacher\u2019s job\u2014this is my job, as a man. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tReal men accept responsibility to be <em>men<\/em>. Let me ask you this: \u201cWhere do you need to step up, as a man?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe\u2019ve got one more pillar. Is it you\u2019re being passive somewhere and you know it?\u00a0 God already spoke to you in that first pillar, and it is like: \u201cMan, you <em>know<\/em>\u2014I\u2019ve been speaking to you about taking a step in this area\u2014step up.\u201d\u00a0 Maybe, it\u2019s engaging with God\u2014it is like, \u201cMan, I am lazy in my walk with God.\u201d\u00a0 So am I, guys. Don\u2019t be lazy\u2014tell another man to hold you accountable. Start the One-Year Bible\u2014whatever it is\u2014say: \u201cMan, hold me accountable. Let\u2019s do this, as men, together. I want to engage with God.\u201d Accept responsibility\u2014whatever it is God is calling you to apologize for\u2014say, \u201cI own up to my mistake.\u201d Or God is calling you to say: \u201cMan, you\u2019ve been letting this area go. Accept responsibility. Step up and lead.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd that\u2019s the last one\u2014a real man leads courageously\u2014leads courageously. I love what John Wayne, actually, used to say\u2014he said: \u201cDoesn\u2019t mean you\u2019re not afraid. Men are afraid all the time\u2014you saddle up anyway\u201d; right?\u00a0 \u201cSaddle up anyway,\u201d\u2014it is like, \u201cLead courageously.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWomen were not called to lead\u2014men were. As I studied the Bible and I was trying to figure out, \u201cWhat is a man?\u201d\u2014I never had a vision of manhood. Many of you guys did \/ I didn\u2019t. Robert Lewis and his material were my thing. I went to the Word of God. Every time I read about men, there was this subtle thing\u2014and many times blatant\u2014lead, lead, lead. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAgain, my wife is a better leader than I am\u2014she is more gifted as a leader. She leads a women\u2019s ministry at our church, and it <em>explodes. <\/em>If God was basing it based on who had the better gift, He\u2019d say, \u201cAnn, you lead\u201d; but He said, \u201cNo\u2014Dave, you lead.\u201d\u00a0 And my wife loves it when I lead\u2014not as a dictator\u2014as a gentle, firm, loving, lay-my-life-down leader, but still strong. She loves that\u2014she does. And your wife will too. Again, you are not dictating; but you are leading them with courage, even when you are scared to death. Even when you don\u2019t know what to do, you lead. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou know, I think about this David and Goliath story. It\u2019s amazing when you get to the battle scene\u2014and I\u2019m going to read some it because you talk about leadership\u2014again, we have a boy who puts away the armor because it doesn\u2019t fit. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe walks out with a sling shot and five stones. Some of you are like, \u201cWhy did he have five?\u2014he only needed one.\u201d\u00a0 There were four brothers to Goliath\u2014you\u2019ll find that out in other passages. He thought he was probably going to have to kill them all today. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, he walks out; right?\u00a0 He stands at the battle line\u2014a giant whom nobody will face. Every day, he taunted them. They are all hiding behind bushes \/ hiding behind rocks, and a boy walks out. Do you know what he says?\u00a0 He says this: \u201cYou come against me with a sword and spear and a javelin, but I come against you in the Name of the Lord Almighty\u201d\u2014where does that come from?\u2014engaging with God. He knows the Lord God Almighty\u2014\u201cthe God of the armies of Israel whom you have defied.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cThis day, the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I will strike you down and cut off your head. This very day, I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. All those gathered here will know that is not by the sword or spear that the Lord saveth, for the battle is the Lord\u2019s and He will give all of you into our hands.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe doesn\u2019t say, \u201cI\u2019m going to kill a giant.\u201d\u00a0 He says, \u201cI\u2019m going to kill all of you.\u201d\u00a0 And how is that going to happen?\u00a0 \u201cThe Lord God Almighty whom I know\u2014and I know who He is, and I know His power, I know His character, and I know His plan\u2014you\u2019re going down today.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, here is something I never heard in Sunday school whenever this story was taught. The next verse says, \u201cAs the Philistine, Goliath, moved closer to attack him\u201d\u2014guys know what it says?\u00a0 It says, \u201cDavid ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him.\u201d I mean, he stands out there and he delivers this charge\u2014you talk about the men \/ the boys watching\u2014they had to be like: \u201cWhat is he doing?\u201d\u00a0 He\u2019s leading with courage\u2014that\u2019s what he\u2019s doing. Why?\u00a0 Because he rejects passivity, he has engaged with God, he has accepted his responsibility, and now is the leadership movement. He doesn\u2019t hide behind a rock\u2014he does this\u2014BOOM!\u2014right?\u00a0 He attacks it; right?\u00a0 That\u2019s manhood. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou\u2019ve got stuff in your life \/ I\u2019ve got stuff in my life. It\u2019s like the giant is huge, and God is little. No, when God is big and you know who He is because you are training to engage with Him, the giants \/ the problems in life get small. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe didn\u2019t charge at something bigger than him\u2014he charges something smaller than his God. So, he ran at it\u2014he goes\u2014BOOM!\u2014I\u2019m thinking. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAre you attacking anything in your life with that kind of aggression?\u00a0 Or is something getting you and you are sort of hiding, back here, like: \u201cOh, I hope my marriage works out,\u201d \u201cI hope she starts\u2026\u201d You know what God is saying to you guys and to me, as a man, today?\u00a0 Reject passivity, engage with God, accept responsibility, and you start leading. You walk into those situations \/ you run to the battle\u2014you say: \u201cThis isn\u2019t happening anymore. This <em>ends today<\/em>.\u201d\u00a0 And maybe, it\u2019s the sin in your own life. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou say, \u201cI\u2019m going to start leading this family,\u201d\u2014and by the way, don\u2019t tell your wife that\u2014just do it\u2014seriously. If you walk out of here and say: \u201cI\u2019m going to be this man. I\u2019m going to be that man,\u201d she\u2019s going to be: \u201cYes, whatever. I\u2019ve heard that before.\u201d\u00a0 I\u2019m telling you\u2014tell a brother \/ tell somebody back home to hold you accountable and, then, do it. She\u2019ll see it. You start doing it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019ll tell you where it starts\u2014on your knees. You get on your knees, and you say: \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cGod, I am weak. I can never do this. I\u2019ve made commitments to You before, and I never fulfilled them. God, I need You.\u201d\u00a0 God will meet you there as you engage with Him, and He\u2019ll transform your life. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019ll end with this: My sophomore year\u2014I don\u2019t tell football stories\u2014I have one football story; and it\u2019s a bad one, actually. I became the starting quarterback at Ball State my sophomore year. I replaced a guy that was a four-year starter. When you get in the huddle, as the new quarterback taking over\u2014who is supposed to talk in a huddle and everybody is supposed to listen?\u2014the quarterback. I get in the huddle, and nobody is listening to me because I\u2019m nobody yet; right?\u2014start off the season\u2014but there was an offensive lineman named Tim Young. He went to the Bears. He was a captain \/ he was a senior. He was like 6\u20196\/300 pounds. When he said: \u201cGuys, shut up. Listen to our quarterback,\u201d they all sat up and listened. So, he was the leader. <br><br>The fifth game, we were playing Indiana State at home\u2014homecoming. That\u2019s when Larry Bird played basketball at Indiana State\u2014anybody that old? Fortunately, he didn\u2019t play football. We\u2019re playing them, and we are beating them. We run out the clock, but we needed one more first down. So, the guy ran the play in and said: \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s a short little pass. Throw it. If he\u2019s not open, run it.\u201d The clock keeps going\u2014there\u2019s like a minute left. I throw to get a first down. A guy intercepts it for a touchdown to beat us. I not only threw the pick, missed the tackle. He scores, and we\u2019re down like four with less than a minute to go. I walk off the field. My head coach goes: \u201cSophomore mistake.\u201d\u00a0 I was so arrogant\u2014I\u2019m like, \u201cNeh.\u201d\u00a0 I sit on the bench. They kick off. We get the ball\u2014one last try. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI run up there and he goes: \u201cOkay, we\u2019re throwing deep. We can\u2019t get a field goal. We\u2019ve got to score.\u201d\u00a0 So, first down, incomplete; second down, incomplete; third down, there is like 15 seconds left. We call an up route. You guys know what an up route is?\u00a0 You all do\u2014in backyard football, you go down and out, and you throw it: \u201cNext time, you go down and out, and then, up.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s called an up route. They are going to thump it\u2014they\u2019re going to come up. That doesn\u2019t work against prevent; right?\u00a0 But that\u2019s what we called. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I roll out. I pump at this guy, and I go like this\u2014I\u2019m getting ready to throw, and I started getting hit. So, on my back foot, I go\u2014FOOMPH\u2014throw it down to the left as far as I can, and I go\u2014BOOM\u2014down to the ground. If you\u2019ve ever played quarterback, you know that you don\u2019t see a lot of your plays\u2014you just listen to the crowd\u2014you learn what it means. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf the crowd at home goes, \u201cAHHH,\u201d that\u2019s really good; you know?\u00a0 If they go, \u201cOhhh,\u201d that\u2019s an interception. And if they go, \u201cUgh,\u201d that\u2019s incomplete; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I throw this thing\u2014BOOM BA BOOM BO\u2014BOOM\u2014and I am laying there. I hear the crowd\u2014\u201cAH AH AHHH\u201d\u2014going crazy. I look up, and they are all jumping up. So, I jump up, and I look. My receiver\u2019s got the ball. He\u2019s sprinting 80 yards for a touchdown. DB\u2019s trying to catch him. This guy, Rick Morrison, runs a four-two\u2014nobody catches him\u2014SCORES!\u00a0 So, we win the game!\u00a0 So, I\u2019m jogging down the field because we\u2019ve still got to kick the extra point\u2014I\u2019m the holder. I\u2019m jogging down the field. Tim Young, the offensive tackle, comes up beside me; and he goes: \u201cYou\u2019re the man!\u00a0 You\u2019re the man!\u00a0 You\u2019re the man!\u201d\u00a0 I\u2019m going down, and I\u2019m looking up, and I\u2019m like [Speaking softly], \u201cYes, okay, I\u2019m the man.\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter] So, we won the game; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe go to practice Monday. What happens when we get in the offensive huddle?\u00a0 You know exactly what happened. I walked in the huddle, and they\u2019re like\u2026\u2014Why?\u2014because I made a play in a crucial moment. Now, \u201cI\u2019m the man,\u201d\u2014the next three years, \u201cI\u2019m the man.\u201d And by the way, when we saw the film on Monday, it was total luck\u2014\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>21:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014it was pure luck \/ pure luck\u2014[Laughter] \u2014but it didn\u2019t matter; right?\u2014because, in that moment, a <em>man<\/em> stepped up, made the play; and they were willing to follow. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhy would I tell you that crazy story?\u00a0 Here is the application, and we\u2019re done. There comes a moment in your home\u2014actually, there come many moments in your home, where your wife is <em>longing<\/em> for you to be the man. Your sons and daughters are <em>longing <\/em>for you to be the man. They may <em>never<\/em> say the words out loud: \u201cYou\u2019re the man!\u00a0 You\u2019re the patriarch!\u201d but when you make a play\u2014when you reject passivity, when you engage with God, when you accept responsibility, and you lead with courage\u2014that\u2019s not even your courage\u2014it is God\u2019s courage in you. Underneath their breath\u2014they may not say it out loud, but underneath their breath, they are like, \u201cI will follow that man.\u201d\u00a0 Why?\u2014because women and children in our society and churches are <em>longing <\/em>for real four-pillar men. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>22:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Studio]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Well, we\u2019ve been listening to Pastor Dave Wilson talk to the men on the <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em> marriage cruise; and I think he\u2019s right. I think there is a deficit in our culture today of real men. <br><br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And it\u2019s why the guys were really listening. There was something in their chest that he called them up to. When you mentioned it,\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I get this now. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014this was just the confirmation of the Holy Spirit\u2014that I thought was accurate. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Ah, I\u2019m sorry that I misinterpreted your silence and your contemplative nature as something like mistrust or something. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>No, not at all. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>But anyway, he\u2014Bob did end up inviting Dave and Ann Wilson to speak. As a couple\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Now, you act like it\u2019s all up to me\u2014like I\u2019ve got the magic key to invite people on. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Well, you\u2019re in charge of the speaking talent. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Of the program?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Okay; alright. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Okay, so, you are in charge; okay?\u00a0 But Bob invited them. As a couple, they knocked it out of the park; but we also decided to put Dave Wilson up in front of the men. We piped in some smell of sweat into the big room we were meeting in on the <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em> cruise so the men would feel like it\u2019s a locker room. We let Coach Dave Wilson\u2014who is also the chaplain of the Detroit Lions and a pastor of a massive church there in the Detroit area \/ more than 15,000 people\u2014\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014we kind of gave him the charge: \u201cFire them up!\u00a0 Equip them. I was at this coaching conference\u2014all these different teams. I was meeting this guy from another school, and we were talking football. We\u2019re enjoying each other \/ enjoying talking football. About 15 minutes in, he goes: \u201cSo, you do\u2014you teach at that school?\u00a0 I mean, are you a fulltime teacher there?\u201d\u00a0 I go: \u201cNo, I\u2019m pure volunteer coach. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI show up whenever I want. They love me to be there when I can because I\u2019m all about developing boys into men, and football is a vehicle to do that. I love it!\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe goes, \u201cSo, what do you do?\u00a0 What\u2019s your real job?\u201d\u2014he had no idea. I go, \u201cWell, actually, I\u2019m a pastor.\u201d\u00a0 He stepped back. I know why he stepped back because he\u2019s like: \u201cI like this dude. Man, we\u2019re football guys. We\u2019re tough. He\u2019s like me, and we\u2019re like\u201d\u2014I said, \u201cI\u2019m a pastor.\u201d He\u2019s like, \u201cYou\u2019re a Christian, oh!\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI went from \u201cYou\u2019re tough \/ you\u2019re strong,\u201d to \u201cYou\u2019re a wimp,\u201d\u2014just like that. I know what he was thinking: \u201cYou\u2019re not only just a wimp\u2014you\u2019re a super wimp because you\u2019re not just a Christian\u2014you\u2019re a pastor!\u201d\u00a0 I thought: \u201cWow! Isn\u2019t that interesting? That is the culture\u2019s definition of a man.\u201d\u00a0 The opposite is true\u2014a real man engages with God. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou know what\u2019s really interesting?\u00a0 In the David and Goliath story, when David goes to King Saul\u2014because he says: \u201cYou can\u2019t go fight. You\u2019re a boy,\u201d\u2014you know what David says?\u00a0 He basically says: \u201cI\u2019m a shepherd. When I\u2019m out taking care of the sheep, and a lion or bear come, I do what?\u00a0 I kill it.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe usually read over that like, \u201cWell, yes, he kills a bear.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNo, think about it\u2014he, literally, kills the bear. What does he say to Saul?\u2014he says, \u201cThe Lord\u2014your servant has killed both the lion and the bear\u2014this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them because he has defied the armies of the Living God.\u201d\u00a0 In verse 37, he says, \u201cThe Lord who rescued me from the paw of this lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.\u201d\u00a0 Saul said to David, \u201cGo, and the Lord be with you.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br>What did Saul sense?\u00a0 Not only does he have physical strength\u2014he sensed this guy has spiritual strength. What was David saying?\u00a0 He was saying, \u201cWhen nobody is looking, when it\u2019s just me alone, I\u2019m engaging with God.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s what he is saying: \u201cI\u2019m getting to know God. I understand God. I understand God\u2019s power. <em>I know God<\/em>. I don\u2019t know about God\u2014<em>I know God<\/em>.\u201d\u00a0 That, in a sense, was enough for the king to go: \u201cOkay, you go because you are not going alone. You\u2019re going with God.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tA real man spends private time alone, cultivating his walk with God. Do you hear what I\u2019m saying?\u00a0 It isn\u2019t once a week church\u2014it\u2019s like: \u201cWord of God\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014\u201cthey know it.\u201d\u00a0 Do you know the Word of God?\u00a0 When somebody tells you to turn to a book in the Bible, do you know where it is?\u00a0 See, a real man engages with God\u2014pursues Him. It isn\u2019t: \u201cTry hard to be like Jesus,\u201d\u2014it\u2019s: \u201c<em>Train<\/em> to be like Jesus.\u201d\u00a0 You know the difference?\u00a0 You can\u2019t try hard\u2014that\u2019s the\u201480 percent of the church is like, \u201cI\u2019ve got to try hard to be like Jesus.\u201d\u00a0 No, you\u2019ve got to <em>train<\/em>. See, when you train, you put your life in an exercise pattern to train you to be like Jesus. \u201cYou cross-train\u201d\u2014I call it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI remember, years ago, I had back surgery. My surgeon said, \u201cIf you want to get your core strong, do P90X.\u201d\u00a0 Anybody do P90X?\u00a0 Come on\u2014show of hands. So, I got the P90X thing. The first day\u2014it is just chest and back. Do you guys know what chest and back is?\u2014push-ups, pull-ups \/ push-ups, pull-ups\u2014back and forth. Tony Horton says on there, \u201cIf you can\u2019t do pull-ups, just get a chair and do them.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe first day of P90X\u2014I\u2019m not kidding\u2014I\u2019m so embarrassed to say this\u2014I did one pull-up\u201490 days later, doing chest and back every Monday through that thing because you go around to that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m not saying this to say, \u201cHey, wow!\u201d\u00a0 I\u2019m showing you what training does\u201490 days later, I\u2019m doing 25\/30 pull-ups. How does that happen?\u2014training. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou get in the Word of God daily. You spend time to pursue God like you pursued your wife before you were married. I would jump in the car after a football game on Saturday afternoon, drive to the University of Kentucky\u2014it took three-and-a-half hours\u2014spent a half hour with her, and drove back three-and-a-half hours. Seven-hour trip for a half-hour with her\u2014nobody even blinked because that\u2019s what you do when you\u2019re in love. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tMen\u2014engage with God. If I had only one pillar to talk about, this would be the one. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThird one is: \u201cAccepts responsibility.\u201d\u00a0 Again, this is right from Robert Lewis\u2019s material\u2014\u201cAccepts responsibility.\u201d\u00a0 David goes to the king, and he says what?\u2014verse 32\u2014he says: \u201cLet no one lose heart on account of this giant, this Philistine. Your servant will go and fight him.\u201d\u00a0 He says, \u201cI accept responsibility.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cNone of these boys are,\u201d\u2014he didn\u2019t say that\u2014but he was saying: \u201cA man accepts responsibility for the bad he\u2019s done in his life \/ for the good he\u2019s done in his life. When a man needs to step up and do something, a man does. He accepts responsibility and says, \u2018I will fight.\u2019\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI wrote in my notes, \u201cIt\u2019s always easier to wait for someone else.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s what boys do\u2014they wait for somebody to step up\u2014and then, that\u2019s a boy. I\u2019ll tell you what\u2014honestly, you know who is stepping up in our culture?\u2014women. Again, I love women \/ I love that they are strong. A lot of times, they don\u2019t want to step up; but they step up because\u2014why?\u2014there is no strong men around\u2014so they will. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br>It\u2019s always easier to make excuses. Have you ever made excuses?\u00a0 Yes\u2014it\u2019s a part of our DNA. The first man, Adam, was the big excuse-maker. We do the same thing. You know, when God came looking for them, after they ate the apple \/ ate the fruit\u2014what did Adam say?\u00a0 He said: \u201cHey, God you don\u2019t want to talk to me. You want to talk to apple-breath over here. That\u2019s who you want to talk to\u201d; right?\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 No, actually, what did he say?\u2014he said, \u201cThe woman that You gave me\u2026\u201d\u00a0 He blamed God.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe do the same thing\u2014we make excuses. Boys make excuses \/ men accept responsibility. I wrote in my notes: \u201cIt\u2019s <em>my<\/em> responsibility to be the man in my home. It\u2019s <em>my<\/em> responsibility to love Ann. It\u2019s <em>my<\/em> responsibility to lead her and our kids spiritually. It\u2019s <em>my<\/em> responsibility to provide, to protect and pastor her.\u201d\u00a0 Those are the three words I teach the men at our church. You are called, as the man of your home, to provide, to protect, and pastor\u2014no excuses. Is it hard?\u2014yes. Do I have what it takes to do it?\u2014no; but if I engage with God, He gives me power to be that man in my life. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI can remember when I was in college\u2014I realized, early, that I\u2019m called, now, as a follower in Christ, to share the Good News. I was\u2014I flew down to see my dad in Florida. He ended up living in Florida, in West Palm Beach. I spent a few days with him on spring break my senior year. And then, I was going to drive \/ rent a car and drive up to the Campus Crusade for Christ spring break on the beach, where we are going to share Christ\u2014never done this before. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAs I\u2019m driving north, about four or five hours, I think\u2014I pray to God. I go, \u201cGod,\u201d\u2014I don\u2019t even know how to pray yet. I\u2019m so new at this\u2014I\u2019m like, \u201cGod, if You want me to share You with somebody on the way, put them in my car; and I\u2019ll do it.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI am not kidding. A minute later, there was a big dude hitchhiking. I looked at him\u2014he had this big bag. He was a big dude, and he\u2019s hitchhiking. He didn\u2019t look real nice. As I got closer, I\u2019m like: \u201cNo way, God. I\u2019m not picking that guy up.\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 I didn\u2019t even think that was an answer to prayer that God would do that like a minute later. So, I just drove right by. I looked at the guy, and he just did this\u2014I went by. My mom always told me, \u201cDon\u2019t pick up hitchhikers.\u201d\u00a0 So, I was being a good boy; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br>So, I drove by\u2014and I don\u2019t know how God talks to you. I didn\u2019t know yet. I was just new, but I sensed in my spirit: \u201cTurn around. You prayed for a guy to talk to. That\u2019s the guy. Turn around.\u201d\u00a0 I\u2019m like: \u201cNope. Not going to do it.\u201d\u00a0 So, I kept driving; and it wouldn\u2019t go away. So, I saw this illegal U-turn in the middle of the highway\u2014you\u2019re not supposed to do\u2014but \u201cIf you\u2019re doing it for God, you can do it.\u201d\u00a0 So, I did a U-turn [Laughter]; right?! And I went down\u2014I did another illegal U-turn, and\u2014\u201cIt\u2019s a catch for God.\u201d So, I\u2019m driving back north. I\u2019m thinking, \u201cThe guy\u2019s gone by now.\u201d\u00a0 And there he was. So, I said, \u201cOkay, God, here we go.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI pull over, and he gets in my car\u2014throws his big duffle bag in the back\u2014big old dude.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, we start talking. His name was Jim. I go, \u201cHey, Jim, what do you do?\u201d\u00a0 He goes, \u201cI\u2019m a Navy SEAL.\u201d\u00a0 When he said that, I got so scared\u2014I\u2019m not kidding. I thought, \u201cThere\u2019s no way I\u2019m sharing Christ with this guy because if he doesn\u2019t want to hear about Jesus, he\u2019ll just reach over and\u2014kink\u2014and I\u2019m dead.\u201d\u00a0 You know?\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 That\u2019s what those guys do; right?\u00a0 They are trained to do that. So, I\u2019m like, \u201cNot going to go there\u201d; right?\u00a0 So, we just kept driving. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe\u2019s in my car like three hours\u2014<em>never<\/em> mentioned God\/Jesus. The whole time, the Holy Spirit is saying: \u201cYou prayed. You said you\u2019d share. Here he is\u2014share Christ with him.\u201d\u00a0 So, right before I\u2019m about to drop him off\u2014hiss exit is a little before where I\u2019m going to get off\u2014I said to him this\u2014I just go, \u201cOkay, God, here it goes.\u201d\u00a0 I go: \u201cHey, Jim, you ever think about God?\u00a0 You ever think about Jesus and spiritual things?\u201d\u00a0 That was my big opening line. I didn\u2019t know what I was doing. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019ll never forget\u2014he\u2019s sitting there\u2014and he goes, \u201cI can\u2019t believe you just asked me that.\u201d\u00a0 Then, I\u2019m like, \u201cOH NO!\u201d\u2014[Laughter] \u2014you know. I go, \u201cOh, why is that?\u201d\u00a0 He goes, \u201cMy life is a wreck!\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI go, \u201cWhat?\u201d He goes, \u201cI was standing on that road\u2014I won\u2019t even tell you how I ended up on this road, needing a ride\u2014but I prayed the only prayer I\u2019ve ever prayed in my life.\u201d\u00a0 I go, \u201cWhat?\u201d\u00a0 He goes, \u201cI said, \u2018God, if You are real and You\u2019re up there, send me one of Your followers to tell me about You.\u2019\u201d\u00a0 He goes, \u201cWould that be you?\u201d\u00a0 I go, \u201cYes, that\u2019d be me,\u201d [Laughter]\u2014UNBELIEVABLE!\u00a0 [Applause]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m this new Christian, and I don\u2019t know how God works. So, I share the gospel as limited as I knew. All I knew was: \u201cGod loves me. We\u2019re sinners. He died on the cross to pay for that, and you can be born-again right here in my car.\u201d\u00a0 We were sitting now on the shoulder\u2014because it took 30 minutes before we could get off at his exit. He gave his life to Jesus, right there in my car that day. Why?\u2014reject passivity, engage with God, accept responsibility. This isn\u2019t a preacher\u2019s job\u2014this is my job, as a man. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tReal men accept responsibility to be <em>men<\/em>. Let me ask you this: \u201cWhere do you need to step up, as a man?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe\u2019ve got one more pillar. Is it you\u2019re being passive somewhere and you know it?\u00a0 God already spoke to you in that first pillar, and it is like: \u201cMan, you <em>know<\/em>\u2014I\u2019ve been speaking to you about taking a step in this area\u2014step up.\u201d\u00a0 Maybe, it\u2019s engaging with God\u2014it is like, \u201cMan, I am lazy in my walk with God.\u201d\u00a0 So am I, guys. Don\u2019t be lazy\u2014tell another man to hold you accountable. Start the One-Year Bible\u2014whatever it is\u2014say: \u201cMan, hold me accountable. Let\u2019s do this, as men, together. I want to engage with God.\u201d Accept responsibility\u2014whatever it is God is calling you to apologize for\u2014say, \u201cI own up to my mistake.\u201d Or God is calling you to say: \u201cMan, you\u2019ve been letting this area go. Accept responsibility. Step up and lead.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd that\u2019s the last one\u2014a real man leads courageously\u2014leads courageously. I love what John Wayne, actually, used to say\u2014he said: \u201cDoesn\u2019t mean you\u2019re not afraid. Men are afraid all the time\u2014you saddle up anyway\u201d; right?\u00a0 \u201cSaddle up anyway,\u201d\u2014it is like, \u201cLead courageously.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWomen were not called to lead\u2014men were. As I studied the Bible and I was trying to figure out, \u201cWhat is a man?\u201d\u2014I never had a vision of manhood. Many of you guys did \/ I didn\u2019t. Robert Lewis and his material were my thing. I went to the Word of God. Every time I read about men, there was this subtle thing\u2014and many times blatant\u2014lead, lead, lead. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAgain, my wife is a better leader than I am\u2014she is more gifted as a leader. She leads a women\u2019s ministry at our church, and it <em>explodes. <\/em>If God was basing it based on who had the better gift, He\u2019d say, \u201cAnn, you lead\u201d; but He said, \u201cNo\u2014Dave, you lead.\u201d\u00a0 And my wife loves it when I lead\u2014not as a dictator\u2014as a gentle, firm, loving, lay-my-life-down leader, but still strong. She loves that\u2014she does. And your wife will too. Again, you are not dictating; but you are leading them with courage, even when you are scared to death. Even when you don\u2019t know what to do, you lead. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou know, I think about this David and Goliath story. It\u2019s amazing when you get to the battle scene\u2014and I\u2019m going to read some it because you talk about leadership\u2014again, we have a boy who puts away the armor because it doesn\u2019t fit. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe walks out with a sling shot and five stones. Some of you are like, \u201cWhy did he have five?\u2014he only needed one.\u201d\u00a0 There were four brothers to Goliath\u2014you\u2019ll find that out in other passages. He thought he was probably going to have to kill them all today. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, he walks out; right?\u00a0 He stands at the battle line\u2014a giant whom nobody will face. Every day, he taunted them. They are all hiding behind bushes \/ hiding behind rocks, and a boy walks out. Do you know what he says?\u00a0 He says this: \u201cYou come against me with a sword and spear and a javelin, but I come against you in the Name of the Lord Almighty\u201d\u2014where does that come from?\u2014engaging with God. He knows the Lord God Almighty\u2014\u201cthe God of the armies of Israel whom you have defied.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cThis day, the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I will strike you down and cut off your head. This very day, I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. All those gathered here will know that is not by the sword or spear that the Lord saveth, for the battle is the Lord\u2019s and He will give all of you into our hands.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe doesn\u2019t say, \u201cI\u2019m going to kill a giant.\u201d\u00a0 He says, \u201cI\u2019m going to kill all of you.\u201d\u00a0 And how is that going to happen?\u00a0 \u201cThe Lord God Almighty whom I know\u2014and I know who He is, and I know His power, I know His character, and I know His plan\u2014you\u2019re going down today.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, here is something I never heard in Sunday school whenever this story was taught. The next verse says, \u201cAs the Philistine, Goliath, moved closer to attack him\u201d\u2014guys know what it says?\u00a0 It says, \u201cDavid ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him.\u201d I mean, he stands out there and he delivers this charge\u2014you talk about the men \/ the boys watching\u2014they had to be like: \u201cWhat is he doing?\u201d\u00a0 He\u2019s leading with courage\u2014that\u2019s what he\u2019s doing. Why?\u00a0 Because he rejects passivity, he has engaged with God, he has accepted his responsibility, and now is the leadership movement. He doesn\u2019t hide behind a rock\u2014he does this\u2014BOOM!\u2014right?\u00a0 He attacks it; right?\u00a0 That\u2019s manhood. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou\u2019ve got stuff in your life \/ I\u2019ve got stuff in my life. It\u2019s like the giant is huge, and God is little. No, when God is big and you know who He is because you are training to engage with Him, the giants \/ the problems in life get small. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe didn\u2019t charge at something bigger than him\u2014he charges something smaller than his God. So, he ran at it\u2014he goes\u2014BOOM!\u2014I\u2019m thinking. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAre you attacking anything in your life with that kind of aggression?\u00a0 Or is something getting you and you are sort of hiding, back here, like: \u201cOh, I hope my marriage works out,\u201d \u201cI hope she starts\u2026\u201d You know what God is saying to you guys and to me, as a man, today?\u00a0 Reject passivity, engage with God, accept responsibility, and you start leading. You walk into those situations \/ you run to the battle\u2014you say: \u201cThis isn\u2019t happening anymore. This <em>ends today<\/em>.\u201d\u00a0 And maybe, it\u2019s the sin in your own life. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou say, \u201cI\u2019m going to start leading this family,\u201d\u2014and by the way, don\u2019t tell your wife that\u2014just do it\u2014seriously. If you walk out of here and say: \u201cI\u2019m going to be this man. I\u2019m going to be that man,\u201d she\u2019s going to be: \u201cYes, whatever. I\u2019ve heard that before.\u201d\u00a0 I\u2019m telling you\u2014tell a brother \/ tell somebody back home to hold you accountable and, then, do it. She\u2019ll see it. You start doing it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019ll tell you where it starts\u2014on your knees. You get on your knees, and you say: \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cGod, I am weak. I can never do this. I\u2019ve made commitments to You before, and I never fulfilled them. God, I need You.\u201d\u00a0 God will meet you there as you engage with Him, and He\u2019ll transform your life. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019ll end with this: My sophomore year\u2014I don\u2019t tell football stories\u2014I have one football story; and it\u2019s a bad one, actually. I became the starting quarterback at Ball State my sophomore year. I replaced a guy that was a four-year starter. When you get in the huddle, as the new quarterback taking over\u2014who is supposed to talk in a huddle and everybody is supposed to listen?\u2014the quarterback. I get in the huddle, and nobody is listening to me because I\u2019m nobody yet; right?\u2014start off the season\u2014but there was an offensive lineman named Tim Young. He went to the Bears. He was a captain \/ he was a senior. He was like 6\u20196\/300 pounds. When he said: \u201cGuys, shut up. Listen to our quarterback,\u201d they all sat up and listened. So, he was the leader. <br><br>The fifth game, we were playing Indiana State at home\u2014homecoming. That\u2019s when Larry Bird played basketball at Indiana State\u2014anybody that old? Fortunately, he didn\u2019t play football. We\u2019re playing them, and we are beating them. We run out the clock, but we needed one more first down. So, the guy ran the play in and said: \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s a short little pass. Throw it. If he\u2019s not open, run it.\u201d The clock keeps going\u2014there\u2019s like a minute left. I throw to get a first down. A guy intercepts it for a touchdown to beat us. I not only threw the pick, missed the tackle. He scores, and we\u2019re down like four with less than a minute to go. I walk off the field. My head coach goes: \u201cSophomore mistake.\u201d\u00a0 I was so arrogant\u2014I\u2019m like, \u201cNeh.\u201d\u00a0 I sit on the bench. They kick off. We get the ball\u2014one last try. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI run up there and he goes: \u201cOkay, we\u2019re throwing deep. We can\u2019t get a field goal. We\u2019ve got to score.\u201d\u00a0 So, first down, incomplete; second down, incomplete; third down, there is like 15 seconds left. We call an up route. You guys know what an up route is?\u00a0 You all do\u2014in backyard football, you go down and out, and you throw it: \u201cNext time, you go down and out, and then, up.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s called an up route. They are going to thump it\u2014they\u2019re going to come up. That doesn\u2019t work against prevent; right?\u00a0 But that\u2019s what we called. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I roll out. I pump at this guy, and I go like this\u2014I\u2019m getting ready to throw, and I started getting hit. So, on my back foot, I go\u2014FOOMPH\u2014throw it down to the left as far as I can, and I go\u2014BOOM\u2014down to the ground. If you\u2019ve ever played quarterback, you know that you don\u2019t see a lot of your plays\u2014you just listen to the crowd\u2014you learn what it means. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf the crowd at home goes, \u201cAHHH,\u201d that\u2019s really good; you know?\u00a0 If they go, \u201cOhhh,\u201d that\u2019s an interception. And if they go, \u201cUgh,\u201d that\u2019s incomplete; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I throw this thing\u2014BOOM BA BOOM BO\u2014BOOM\u2014and I am laying there. I hear the crowd\u2014\u201cAH AH AHHH\u201d\u2014going crazy. I look up, and they are all jumping up. So, I jump up, and I look. My receiver\u2019s got the ball. He\u2019s sprinting 80 yards for a touchdown. DB\u2019s trying to catch him. This guy, Rick Morrison, runs a four-two\u2014nobody catches him\u2014SCORES!\u00a0 So, we win the game!\u00a0 So, I\u2019m jogging down the field because we\u2019ve still got to kick the extra point\u2014I\u2019m the holder. I\u2019m jogging down the field. Tim Young, the offensive tackle, comes up beside me; and he goes: \u201cYou\u2019re the man!\u00a0 You\u2019re the man!\u00a0 You\u2019re the man!\u201d\u00a0 I\u2019m going down, and I\u2019m looking up, and I\u2019m like [Speaking softly], \u201cYes, okay, I\u2019m the man.\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter] So, we won the game; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe go to practice Monday. What happens when we get in the offensive huddle?\u00a0 You know exactly what happened. I walked in the huddle, and they\u2019re like\u2026\u2014Why?\u2014because I made a play in a crucial moment. Now, \u201cI\u2019m the man,\u201d\u2014the next three years, \u201cI\u2019m the man.\u201d And by the way, when we saw the film on Monday, it was total luck\u2014\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>21:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014it was pure luck \/ pure luck\u2014[Laughter] \u2014but it didn\u2019t matter; right?\u2014because, in that moment, a <em>man<\/em> stepped up, made the play; and they were willing to follow. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhy would I tell you that crazy story?\u00a0 Here is the application, and we\u2019re done. There comes a moment in your home\u2014actually, there come many moments in your home, where your wife is <em>longing<\/em> for you to be the man. Your sons and daughters are <em>longing <\/em>for you to be the man. They may <em>never<\/em> say the words out loud: \u201cYou\u2019re the man!\u00a0 You\u2019re the patriarch!\u201d but when you make a play\u2014when you reject passivity, when you engage with God, when you accept responsibility, and you lead with courage\u2014that\u2019s not even your courage\u2014it is God\u2019s courage in you.
