I felt like: \u201cOh, they don\u2019t look at it. They\u2019re not going to look at it. We\u2019ve put some firewalls up, and they know they are not supposed to because we\u2019ve told them, \u2018Don\u2019t\u2026\u2019\u201d\u2014but never really <em>explained<\/em> to them <em>why<\/em>: \u201cWhy is it wrong to look at pornography?\u201d\u00a0 So, we talked to our kids, knowing that the only thing that\u2019s going to conquer any sort of sin in them that wants to view pornography, is Christ\u2019s love. When your kids were at home, did they ever stump you with theological or moral questions that you thought, \u201cI\u2019m not sure I know exactly how to answer that\u201d?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Absolutely, but I never let them know. [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You kept a poker face. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>No, no\u2014I told them. I said: \u201cYou know, that\u2019s a really good question. Would you give Dad a chance or Dad and Mom to get a couple of books out and see if we can\u2019t come up with an answer?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>See, the one I remember was \u201cDoes God love Satan?\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 There\u2019s a good one; huh?\u00a0 \u201cGod loves everyone. Does God love Satan?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Oh, here\u2019s another one: \u201cCan God make a rock so big He can\u2019t pick it up?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Oh, we\u2019ve all heard that one\u2014yes; that\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Well, but they came back with that in the teenage years you know?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat was an entertaining\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Now, they\u2019re just trying to be ornery. We\u2019re glad to be here. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Good to have Elyse back on the broadcast. Jessica, this is your first trip with us. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>It is. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You guys have collaborated together as a mother\/daughter combo. Both of you have three children. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You were where in the three with your siblings?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>I\u2019m the middle. So, I have an older brother and a younger brother. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Okay. The name of the book is what we are talking about here\u2014<em>Answering Your Kids\u2019 Toughest Questions: Helping Them Understand<\/em>\u2026\u00a0 So, if you\u2019re a parent, or a grandparent, or an aunt, or an uncle\u2014and you\u2019ve got some nieces and nephews who maybe ask you a question around sex, around movies, death, divorce, suicide, doubt, pornography, homosexuality, around natural disasters, around war, terrorism\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Or \u201cDoes God love Satan?\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter] I guess that\u2019s not in the book, but we\u2019ll let you take a stab at that before we\u2019re all\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>Thank you so much!\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You\u2019re welcome. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Elyse: <\/strong>Jessica will handle that one. [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You know, most of us, as parents, though\u2014we laughed about it at the beginning\u2014when we\u2019re asked a tough question, a lot of times, we fall back and punt and really never address the tough question. Why do you think that\u2019s our <em>natural<\/em> tendency?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Elyse: <\/strong>I think it\u2019s our natural tendency because, first of all, all of us hate to admit that there is something we don\u2019t know; and then, also, because I think that, a lot of times, parents believe that their children\u2019s ultimate salvation depends upon them and upon their being able to produce the right answers at the right time. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>If my child stumps me with a question\u2014that shows there is some doubt\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Elyse: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014and the kids are not going to follow Jesus as a result. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Elyse: <\/strong>Yes, exactly. So, I think, a lot of times, parents are nervous about giving answers simply because they are afraid that they\u2019re not going to give the right answer or that their child\u2019s salvation ultimately depends on them. And so, they build, actually, a wall around themselves\u2014as if they have all the answers \/ they are perfect\u2014\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014therefore, their children can trust them. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>I remember one of our five kids being the particular question-asker in our home. He was the one who was always asking the \u201cWhy?\u201d and the probing. I\u2019m just wondering, \u201cWas Jessica that child for you?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Elyse: <\/strong>Jessica\u2014no, because Jessica really\u2014and this is something we\u2019ve talked about, publicly, a lot\u2014Jessica sort of feigned faith for about 18 years. So, she\u2014I don\u2019t know that you were actually the question-asker. I think her brothers probably were, but Jessica was a person that decided that acting as though she were a Christian would be a good way to get me off her back. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Outwardly compliant; but inwardly, \u201cI\u2019m going to do my own thing.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>Absolutely. So, when Jesus calls the Pharisees a white-washed tomb\u2014so, they looked pretty on the outside but, inside\u2014just dead, rotting bones. That was exactly where I was at. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLike my mom said, it was because it was easier for me\u2014I thought it was easier for me\u2014just to pretend like I was a Christian. Well, I didn\u2019t have any questions because I didn\u2019t really care. So, my heart wasn\u2019t even alive to Christ. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI loved the praise of man and knew the best way to get that in the church was to go on mission trips, and to be involved in the youth group, and to get up and be the one that gave the testimony. I knew how to play the game. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, when I was actually in Bible college\u2014I went so far as to go to Bible college so that I could continue to get the accolades. It wasn\u2019t just getting accolades\u2014it was also, like she said, to keep everybody at a distance. When I was in Bible college, the Lord\u2014we had to go to pre-service prayer before we went to classes. I would just sit there and take a nap. If I would have had a smartphone, I probably would have been on Facebook<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> or Twitter<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>; but that wasn\u2019t the case back then\u2014so, just sat there. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne day\u2014there\u2019s no explanation\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014except God arrested my heart, broke me of my <em>goodness<\/em>, and showed me it wasn\u2019t enough. And I walked out of that prayer service a different person. I went in dead and I came out alive. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I found it interesting, in the midst of you faking your faith, that your mom never stopped pressing into your life\u2014like the time you went to a movie and you were 15 years old. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Elyse: <\/strong>Yes. We actually talked about it this morning. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Your mom was waiting up for you\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014very intentional about <em>her<\/em> faith and how she dealt with matters. Tell our listeners what happened that night. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>I\u2019d gone to a movie and came home and\u2014one thing my mom always did for us\u2014that I really appreciated and hope I do it with my children also\u2014is to press into: \u201cWhat is the worldview that you are seeing here? What is the world telling you, and what is the biblical worldview of this?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Now, wait. You just said you always appreciated that?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>No, no, no\u2014I appreciate it <em>now<\/em>. I didn\u2019t then\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>\u2014<em>at all<\/em>! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Because no 15-year-old wants to come home to a mom or a dad saying, \u201cSo, what do you think that worldview was?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>No, I should rephrase that\u2014I didn\u2019t appreciate it then at all. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Elyse: <\/strong>She was never happy about those conversations. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>No. So, I came home from some movie\u2014don\u2019t remember what it was\u2014and she was sitting on the stairs. If I didn\u2019t roll my eyes outwardly, I did it in my\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Elyse: <\/strong>You did. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>Okay. [Laughter]\u00a0 I was going to say, \u201cI did in my heart.\u201d\u00a0 I was walking up the stairs; and she said: \u201cNow, stop. Let\u2019s talk. What worldview was the movie trying to tell you?\u201d\u00a0 And I just sarcastically\/angrily said to her, \u201cNot everything has to have a meaning,\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Elyse: <\/strong>Silly girl. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>\u2014which I\u2019m sure encouraged a great conversation between the both of us, at the time. But yes\u2014I mean, talking to our kids\u2014every conversation, every movie, every book\u2014there actually is a good story. There is one good story, and that\u2019s the gospel. You see it all over. You see it in most movies\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014any movie that\u2019s good\u2014you\u2019re going to see the gospel story of someone laying down their lives for those that they love. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Jessica, I want to get to these tough questions that are in here; but I\u2019m just curious: \u201cDid you know\u2014 when you were faking it\u2014that you were faking it?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>Yes, I did. For sure, I knew. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Did you have doubts?\u00a0 Was that a source of you faking it, or were you just wanting\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>I didn\u2019t care. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You just had a self-will that said: \u201cYou know what?\u00a0 He may be the Lord \/ He may be the Master, but not for me\u2014not now.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>I didn\u2019t even know if I thought that <em>deeply<\/em> about it, to be real honest. I think I thought: \u201cThis is what everyone else is doing, and that\u2019s fine. I don\u2019t want people bothering me.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u201cI\u2019ll play the game.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>\u201cI\u2019ll play the game. I will play the game, and I will get all the awards. Everybody will love me.\u201d\u00a0 Yes, that was more of where I was at. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>And I\u2019m just curious\u2014did you know she was faking it?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Elyse: <\/strong>Oh, no; not at all. When she came home\u2014that night from Bible college\u2014and she said to me, \u201cMom, I got saved today,\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014it didn\u2019t even <em>register<\/em>, in my mind, what she was saying. It was <em>shocking<\/em> to me\u2014that, all these years, this girl\u2014who, when she was in kindergarten, won Miss Christian Character. She went on mission trips. She was in the youth group \/ one of the leaders of the youth group, in Bible college\u2014all the time, faking it because she wanted my approval and the approval of the family\u2014coming from a ministry family\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Elyse: <\/strong>\u2014the approval of the family. I was utterly <em>astounded<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Is there a way a parent can diagnose whether a child is faking it?\u00a0 I\u2019m just wondering if there is anything we can do or do we just kind of go with it and keep praying for them?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>I don\u2019t think there is a way to diagnose that\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014but I think there is a way for parents to talk to their kids about their goodness not being everything. Goodness\u2014being a good kid doesn\u2019t equal being a Christian. And I think there is a way to talk to kids\u2014telling them over and over again: \u201cYour goodness will never be good enough. You need the goodness of Jesus Christ. You need His righteousness alone to stand before a Holy God.\u201d\u00a0 <br><br>And we\u2019ve talked about this\u2014it\u2019s <em>not<\/em> \u201cI\u2019m going to surprise her right now,\u201d\u2014that\u2019s nothing we ever heard, growing up. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Elyse: <\/strong>Correct. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>What we heard was: \u201cBe a good kid and that will get you through life.\u201d\u00a0 The gospel message is, in fact, <em>so much more<\/em> and deeper than that: \u201cYou <em>can never<\/em> be good enough.\u201d\u00a0 So, to tell your kids: \u201cPut your own goodness away. Trust and rest in the goodness of Jesus Christ on your behalf,\u201d\u2014that\u2019s a message that our kids need to hear so that we\u2019re not raising Pharisees and legalists. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>What Jessica is illustrating here, I really want parents to hear: \u201cWe\u2019re losing a generation,\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Elyse: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014who are growing up in the church today who are playing church;\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014sometimes because the parents are playing church\u201d; okay?\u00a0 They are simply replicating what they are seeing their parents model\u2014their hearts are far from God. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI would say\u2014back to your question, Bob: \u201cHow do you diagnose this?\u201d\u2014I immediately think of Romans, Chapter 12, verse 2. It says, \u201cDo not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by renewal of your mind.\u201d\u00a0 It goes on to talk about how you can prove what the will of God is. I think, as we model that for our children, we then need to begin praying for them because\u2014you weren\u2019t at college when she was at that prayer meeting\u2014\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Elyse: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014you were praying for your daughter\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Elyse: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014for her to come to her spiritual senses before it was too late and before she ruined her life. Sometimes, that\u2019s sooner, as in your case, Jessica. Sometimes, it can be decades before the child gets it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe\u2019re talking to some parents, right now, who have some adult children who aren\u2019t doing well, spiritually. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThey need to be in prayer for them, asking God to be at work in their lives. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI want to go to the questions that you have here in the book because I know there are some parents, who are wondering, \u201cHow do I answer these questions?\u201d\u00a0 Is there one that has been kind of <em>the<\/em> number-one question that parents have brought forth repeatedly?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Jessica: <\/strong>Let me answer you in a way that\u2019s not answering your question at all. [Laughter]\u00a0 I think that the one question that parents aren\u2019t engaging their kids on\u2014that kids aren\u2019t asking\u2014is about sexual sins. I think that parents are afraid to talk to their children about pornography. They don\u2019t want to bring it up just in case, somehow, their kids weren\u2019t thinking about it. I think that parents are nervous to talk about any sort of sexual sin\u2014specifically pornography. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tPursue your kids. Ninety-two percent of boys and sixty-three percent of girls, by the age of 18, have viewed pornography\u2014right now. People need to understand\u2014if you are saying to yourself, \u201cThat doesn\u2019t happen in my house,\u201d\u201492 percent!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And it\u2019s not a matter of it necessarily happening in your house. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>No, it\u2019s not! It could happen anywhere! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Other kids have screens in their\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014purses, in their pockets, phones, ads. I mean, they\u2019re viewing these screens; and they are saying: \u201cHey! Look at this.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>Absolutely. So, I have a friend who went to the dentist\u2019s office with her eight-year-old son. A bunch of kids were over in the corner, looking at an iPod<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>. She thought they were playing a game. Come to find out, they were looking at pornography\u2014dentist\u2019s office\u2014eight years old. Parents need to open their eyes to this.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Okay. Let\u2019s just stop, right here, because you mentioned a fear that I think every parent has: \u201cIf I introduce the subject too soon, I\u2019m going to be arousing interest that I don\u2019t want my child to experience.\u201d\u00a0 So, I think what happens is they fall back 20 yards and punt. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>They don\u2019t address the issue. How should a parent view this discussion today with this being so prevalent?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>I mean\u2014it\u2019s everywhere. So, first of all, let\u2019s talk about the fear factor of this. I think that\u2019s why parents don\u2019t talk to kids\u2014they are afraid. They don\u2019t know how to talk about it \/ they don\u2019t broach the topic\u2014any of those things. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, what we do with fear is\u2014we know that there is a perfect love that casts that out. So, we talk to our kids, knowing that Jesus Christ loves us enough to care for our families. We talk to them, knowing that the only thing that\u2019s going to conquer any sort of sin in them that wants to view pornography, is Christ\u2019s love. It\u2019s the only thing better; right?\u2014\u201cJesus is better,\u201d\u2014and that\u2019s how we start with our kids. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSee, I hadn\u2019t had a conversation with my kids about this until I wrote this chapter. With my boys, I felt like: \u201cOh, they don\u2019t look at it. They\u2019re not going to look at it. We\u2019ve put some firewalls up, and they know they are not supposed to because we\u2019ve told them, \u2018Don\u2019t...\u2019\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Their ages are?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>Fifteen and thirteen. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Okay. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>Okay; so, we had talked to them about it in that sense\u2014like, \u201cYou better <em>not<\/em> or everything is getting taken away,\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014but never really <em>explained<\/em> to them <em>why<\/em>: \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cWhy is it wrong to look at pornography?\u00a0 Is that just a sin between you and God?\u201d\u00a0 It\u2019s not! You\u2019re sinning against these people that you\u2019re viewing, too, because they could be a sex slave. You viewing pornography could actually be imprisoning them. They could be enslaved to drugs, and they are doing pornography so that they can carry on this addiction. You\u2019re actually hurting these people you are viewing too\u2014let alone the fact they are made in the image of God and you are <em>reducing<\/em> them to something less than for your own pleasure.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Then, to add to that: \u201cThat\u2019s somebody\u2019s daughter\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>Right! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014\u201cyou\u2019re looking at.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>Yes, or \u201csister.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>And I\u2019ve said to guys\u2014I\u2019ve said: \u201cIf some guy came to you and said, \u2018Would you mind \/ it be okay?\u2014I\u2019d just like to look at your daughter\u2014just like to have her take her clothes off and have a look at that?\u2019\u201d\u00a0 Any dad, in America, would say, \u201cThat\u2019s okay. Yes, that\u2019d be fine\u201d?\u2014or around the world for that matter; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I think we have to recognize, \u201cWe wouldn\u2019t want anybody looking at our daughters;\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014\u201cwe\u2019re going to go look at somebody else\u2019s daughter\u201d?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tElyse, did you have these conversations with your boys?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Elyse: <\/strong>I think I might have had the kind of conversation with the boys that would have been very surface: \u201cJust don\u2019t do it,\u201d and \u201cIf we catch you\u2026.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>If you were doing it again today, what would you do differently?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Elyse: <\/strong>Oh, so much differently. You see, there is no way in the world\u2014there was an article that was written\u2014maybe, 75 or 100 years ago\u2014called \u201cThe Expulsive Power of a New Affection.\u201d\u00a0 The only reason\u2014the only thing that will take away the <em>desire<\/em> for one thing you are seeking after pleasure with \/ one thing that you are desiring is something better\u2014so, then, to come at that desire that would be in their hearts\u2014and say: \u201cYou know, I understand this. This is a desire that\u2019s in your heart. Let me tell you about a better love.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think that a lot of times we pile so much guilt\u2014and there is guilt involved in this\u2014but when a young man is struggling with pornography, he feels guilty every time he clicks on it. He feels guilty. What will help him fight that?\u00a0 It\u2019s not more guilt because guilt makes you think, \u201cGod hates me.\u201d\u00a0 It\u2019s the message of the gospel, which says: \u201cJesus Christ bore this for you. There is something <em>better<\/em>\u2014it\u2019s His love.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tFighting it from that direction\u2014really seeking to help that young man or young woman, now. Let\u2019s just say it, \u201cWomen are looking at pornography as well.\u201d What\u2019s better than that is the love of a Savior\u2014and to continue to go back and talk about the forgiveness and love. There is so much pleasure in pondering the forgiveness, and love, and adoption, and reconciliation of the Savior. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s so much better than that <em>fleeting<\/em> image; but it\u2019s a different situation now because I could have\u2014I mean, I searched my boys\u2019 rooms; okay?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>Right\u2014looking for magazines\u2014because, back in the day, that\u2019s\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Elyse: <\/strong>Exactly. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Elyse: <\/strong>Looking for magazines but, now, it\u2019s a different deal entirely. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, I know Jessica gets her boys phones\u2014she just takes them, and she won\u2019t tell them she is going to. She just takes them, and she looks\u2014they know she will do that. Perhaps, that\u2019s a little bit of a restraint; but that\u2019s not going to restrain them when they are 18. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>No, they need to know the Restrainer, and we\u2019ve come full circle on this. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Elyse: <\/strong>Yes; yes!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>We started out talking about the need of a child to have a true love for Jesus Christ to know He died for them and that He redeemed them. He is the One who changes hearts. As you said\u2014gives them a heart of flesh to be able to obey God and want to turn away from evil and do what\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tTo that teenager, who is listening to us right now: \u201cDo you have a relationship with Christ?\u201d\u2014that would be the question I\u2019d have\u2014or: \u201cAre you playing church, as Jessica was doing?\u00a0 Are you faking it?\u201d\u00a0 Your great need is to be born again. It\u2019s basically to place your faith in Christ and trust in Him for the forgiveness of your sins. And to the parents\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>And by the way, that doesn\u2019t have to be a teenager. That can be a 30-, or 40-, or 50-year-old, who is still playing the game and trying to act right. It doesn\u2019t go\u2014it can be anybody. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Or it can be a parent, who is listening to us right now,\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014and say, \u201cYes, my kids really need this,\u201d but you haven\u2019t made a commitment. The question is\u2014first of all\u2014\u201cAre you born again?\u201d\u00a0 If you are and you are a parent, you really do have a responsibility to introduce your children to the truth about them\u2014 that they are broken and they need a Redeemer.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>21:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>They need a Savior. That\u2019s done by faith and a commitment to Christ. It is a work of God. We don\u2019t boast about it \/ we don\u2019t brag about it\u2014He does it in us and through us\u2014but when it\u2019s done, as Jessica has illustrated, we are different. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Well, and the two of you have really given us guidance, as parents, on how we can have the kinds of conversations with our children that help them see what the real issues are. The book that you\u2019ve written\u2014<em>Answering Your Kids\u2019 Toughest Questions<\/em>\u2014deals with things like divorce, or war, or terrorism, or death, or homosexuality, or sexual abuse. I felt like: \u201cOh, they don\u2019t look at it. They\u2019re not going to look at it. We\u2019ve put some firewalls up, and they know they are not supposed to because we\u2019ve told them, \u2018Don\u2019t\u2026\u2019\u201d\u2014but never really <em>explained<\/em> to them <em>why<\/em>: \u201cWhy is it wrong to look at pornography?\u201d\u00a0 So, we talked to our kids, knowing that the only thing that\u2019s going to conquer any sort of sin in them that wants to view pornography, is Christ\u2019s love. When your kids were at home, did they ever stump you with theological or moral questions that you thought, \u201cI\u2019m not sure I know exactly how to answer that\u201d?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Absolutely, but I never let them know. [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You kept a poker face. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>No, no\u2014I told them. I said: \u201cYou know, that\u2019s a really good question. Would you give Dad a chance or Dad and Mom to get a couple of books out and see if we can\u2019t come up with an answer?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>See, the one I remember was \u201cDoes God love Satan?\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 There\u2019s a good one; huh?\u00a0 \u201cGod loves everyone. Does God love Satan?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Oh, here\u2019s another one: \u201cCan God make a rock so big He can\u2019t pick it up?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Oh, we\u2019ve all heard that one\u2014yes; that\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Well, but they came back with that in the teenage years you know?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat was an entertaining\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Now, they\u2019re just trying to be ornery. Jessica, this is your first trip with us. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>It is. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You guys have collaborated together as a mother\/daughter combo. Both of you have three children. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You were where in the three with your siblings?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>I\u2019m the middle. So, I have an older brother and a younger brother. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Okay. The name of the book is what we are talking about here\u2014<em>Answering Your Kids\u2019 Toughest Questions: Helping Them Understand<\/em>\u2026\u00a0 So, if you\u2019re a parent, or a grandparent, or an aunt, or an uncle\u2014and you\u2019ve got some nieces and nephews who maybe ask you a question around sex, around movies, death, divorce, suicide, doubt, pornography, homosexuality, around natural disasters, around war, terrorism\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Or \u201cDoes God love Satan?\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter] I guess that\u2019s not in the book, but we\u2019ll let you take a stab at that before we\u2019re all\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>Thank you so much!\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You\u2019re welcome. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Elyse: <\/strong>Jessica will handle that one. [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You know, most of us, as parents, though\u2014we laughed about it at the beginning\u2014when we\u2019re asked a tough question, a lot of times, we fall back and punt and really never address the tough question. Why do you think that\u2019s our <em>natural<\/em> tendency?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Elyse: <\/strong>I think it\u2019s our natural tendency because, first of all, all of us hate to admit that there is something we don\u2019t know; and then, also, because I think that, a lot of times, parents believe that their children\u2019s ultimate salvation depends upon them and upon their being able to produce the right answers at the right time. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>If my child stumps me with a question\u2014that shows there is some doubt\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Elyse: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014and the kids are not going to follow Jesus as a result. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Elyse: <\/strong>Yes, exactly. So, I think, a lot of times, parents are nervous about giving answers simply because they are afraid that they\u2019re not going to give the right answer or that their child\u2019s salvation ultimately depends on them. And so, they build, actually, a wall around themselves\u2014as if they have all the answers \/ they are perfect\u2014\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014therefore, their children can trust them. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>I remember one of our five kids being the particular question-asker in our home. He was the one who was always asking the \u201cWhy?\u201d and the probing. I\u2019m just wondering, \u201cWas Jessica that child for you?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Elyse: <\/strong>Jessica\u2014no, because Jessica really\u2014and this is something we\u2019ve talked about, publicly, a lot\u2014Jessica sort of feigned faith for about 18 years. So, she\u2014I don\u2019t know that you were actually the question-asker. I think her brothers probably were, but Jessica was a person that decided that acting as though she were a Christian would be a good way to get me off her back. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Outwardly compliant; but inwardly, \u201cI\u2019m going to do my own thing.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>Absolutely. So, when Jesus calls the Pharisees a white-washed tomb\u2014so, they looked pretty on the outside but, inside\u2014just dead, rotting bones. That was exactly where I was at. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLike my mom said, it was because it was easier for me\u2014I thought it was easier for me\u2014just to pretend like I was a Christian. Well, I didn\u2019t have any questions because I didn\u2019t really care. So, my heart wasn\u2019t even alive to Christ. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI loved the praise of man and knew the best way to get that in the church was to go on mission trips, and to be involved in the youth group, and to get up and be the one that gave the testimony. I knew how to play the game. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, when I was actually in Bible college\u2014I went so far as to go to Bible college so that I could continue to get the accolades. It wasn\u2019t just getting accolades\u2014it was also, like she said, to keep everybody at a distance. When I was in Bible college, the Lord\u2014we had to go to pre-service prayer before we went to classes. I would just sit there and take a nap. If I would have had a smartphone, I probably would have been on Facebook<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> or Twitter<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>; but that wasn\u2019t the case back then\u2014so, just sat there. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne day\u2014there\u2019s no explanation\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014except God arrested my heart, broke me of my <em>goodness<\/em>, and showed me it wasn\u2019t enough. And I walked out of that prayer service a different person. I went in dead and I came out alive. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I found it interesting, in the midst of you faking your faith, that your mom never stopped pressing into your life\u2014like the time you went to a movie and you were 15 years old. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Elyse: <\/strong>Yes. We actually talked about it this morning. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Your mom was waiting up for you\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014very intentional about <em>her<\/em> faith and how she dealt with matters. Tell our listeners what happened that night. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>I\u2019d gone to a movie and came home and\u2014one thing my mom always did for us\u2014that I really appreciated and hope I do it with my children also\u2014is to press into: \u201cWhat is the worldview that you are seeing here? What is the world telling you, and what is the biblical worldview of this?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Now, wait. You just said you always appreciated that?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>No, no, no\u2014I appreciate it <em>now<\/em>. I didn\u2019t then\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>\u2014<em>at all<\/em>! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Because no 15-year-old wants to come home to a mom or a dad saying, \u201cSo, what do you think that worldview was?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>No, I should rephrase that\u2014I didn\u2019t appreciate it then at all. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Elyse: <\/strong>She was never happy about those conversations. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>No. So, I came home from some movie\u2014don\u2019t remember what it was\u2014and she was sitting on the stairs. If I didn\u2019t roll my eyes outwardly, I did it in my\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Elyse: <\/strong>You did. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>Okay. What worldview was the movie trying to tell you?\u201d\u00a0 And I just sarcastically\/angrily said to her, \u201cNot everything has to have a meaning,\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Elyse: <\/strong>Silly girl. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>\u2014which I\u2019m sure encouraged a great conversation between the both of us, at the time. But yes\u2014I mean, talking to our kids\u2014every conversation, every movie, every book\u2014there actually is a good story. There is one good story, and that\u2019s the gospel. You see it all over. You see it in most movies\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014any movie that\u2019s good\u2014you\u2019re going to see the gospel story of someone laying down their lives for those that they love. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Jessica, I want to get to these tough questions that are in here; but I\u2019m just curious: \u201cDid you know\u2014 when you were faking it\u2014that you were faking it?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>Yes, I did. For sure, I knew. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Did you have doubts?\u00a0 Was that a source of you faking it, or were you just wanting\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>I didn\u2019t care. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You just had a self-will that said: \u201cYou know what?\u00a0 He may be the Lord \/ He may be the Master, but not for me\u2014not now.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>I didn\u2019t even know if I thought that <em>deeply<\/em> about it, to be real honest. I think I thought: \u201cThis is what everyone else is doing, and that\u2019s fine. I don\u2019t want people bothering me.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u201cI\u2019ll play the game.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>\u201cI\u2019ll play the game. I will play the game, and I will get all the awards. Everybody will love me.\u201d\u00a0 Yes, that was more of where I was at. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>And I\u2019m just curious\u2014did you know she was faking it?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Elyse: <\/strong>Oh, no; not at all. When she came home\u2014that night from Bible college\u2014and she said to me, \u201cMom, I got saved today,\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014it didn\u2019t even <em>register<\/em>, in my mind, what she was saying. It was <em>shocking<\/em> to me\u2014that, all these years, this girl\u2014who, when she was in kindergarten, won Miss Christian Character. She went on mission trips. She was in the youth group \/ one of the leaders of the youth group, in Bible college\u2014all the time, faking it because she wanted my approval and the approval of the family\u2014coming from a ministry family\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Elyse: <\/strong>\u2014the approval of the family. I was utterly <em>astounded<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Is there a way a parent can diagnose whether a child is faking it?\u00a0 I\u2019m just wondering if there is anything we can do or do we just kind of go with it and keep praying for them?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>I don\u2019t think there is a way to diagnose that\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014but I think there is a way for parents to talk to their kids about their goodness not being everything. Goodness\u2014being a good kid doesn\u2019t equal being a Christian. And I think there is a way to talk to kids\u2014telling them over and over again: \u201cYour goodness will never be good enough. You need the goodness of Jesus Christ. You need His righteousness alone to stand before a Holy God.\u201d\u00a0 <br><br>And we\u2019ve talked about this\u2014it\u2019s <em>not<\/em> \u201cI\u2019m going to surprise her right now,\u201d\u2014that\u2019s nothing we ever heard, growing up. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Elyse: <\/strong>Correct. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>What we heard was: \u201cBe a good kid and that will get you through life.\u201d\u00a0 The gospel message is, in fact, <em>so much more<\/em> and deeper than that: \u201cYou <em>can never<\/em> be good enough.\u201d\u00a0 So, to tell your kids: \u201cPut your own goodness away. Trust and rest in the goodness of Jesus Christ on your behalf,\u201d\u2014that\u2019s a message that our kids need to hear so that we\u2019re not raising Pharisees and legalists. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>What Jessica is illustrating here, I really want parents to hear: \u201cWe\u2019re losing a generation,\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Elyse: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014who are growing up in the church today who are playing church;\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014sometimes because the parents are playing church\u201d; okay?\u00a0 They are simply replicating what they are seeing their parents model\u2014their hearts are far from God. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI would say\u2014back to your question, Bob: \u201cHow do you diagnose this?\u201d\u2014I immediately think of Romans, Chapter 12, verse 2. It says, \u201cDo not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by renewal of your mind.\u201d\u00a0 It goes on to talk about how you can prove what the will of God is. I think, as we model that for our children, we then need to begin praying for them because\u2014you weren\u2019t at college when she was at that prayer meeting\u2014\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Elyse: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014you were praying for your daughter\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Elyse: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014for her to come to her spiritual senses before it was too late and before she ruined her life. Sometimes, that\u2019s sooner, as in your case, Jessica. Sometimes, it can be decades before the child gets it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe\u2019re talking to some parents, right now, who have some adult children who aren\u2019t doing well, spiritually. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThey need to be in prayer for them, asking God to be at work in their lives. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI want to go to the questions that you have here in the book because I know there are some parents, who are wondering, \u201cHow do I answer these questions?\u201d\u00a0 Is there one that has been kind of <em>the<\/em> number-one question that parents have brought forth repeatedly?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Jessica: <\/strong>Let me answer you in a way that\u2019s not answering your question at all. [Laughter]\u00a0 I think that the one question that parents aren\u2019t engaging their kids on\u2014that kids aren\u2019t asking\u2014is about sexual sins. I think that parents are afraid to talk to their children about pornography. They don\u2019t want to bring it up just in case, somehow, their kids weren\u2019t thinking about it. I think that parents are nervous to talk about any sort of sexual sin\u2014specifically pornography. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tPursue your kids. Ninety-two percent of boys and sixty-three percent of girls, by the age of 18, have viewed pornography\u2014right now. People need to understand\u2014if you are saying to yourself, \u201cThat doesn\u2019t happen in my house,\u201d\u201492 percent!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And it\u2019s not a matter of it necessarily happening in your house. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>No, it\u2019s not! It could happen anywhere! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Other kids have screens in their\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014purses, in their pockets, phones, ads. I mean, they\u2019re viewing these screens; and they are saying: \u201cHey! Look at this.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>Absolutely. So, I have a friend who went to the dentist\u2019s office with her eight-year-old son. A bunch of kids were over in the corner, looking at an iPod<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>. She thought they were playing a game. Come to find out, they were looking at pornography\u2014dentist\u2019s office\u2014eight years old. Parents need to open their eyes to this.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Okay. Let\u2019s just stop, right here, because you mentioned a fear that I think every parent has: \u201cIf I introduce the subject too soon, I\u2019m going to be arousing interest that I don\u2019t want my child to experience.\u201d\u00a0 So, I think what happens is they fall back 20 yards and punt. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>They don\u2019t address the issue. How should a parent view this discussion today with this being so prevalent?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>I mean\u2014it\u2019s everywhere. So, first of all, let\u2019s talk about the fear factor of this. I think that\u2019s why parents don\u2019t talk to kids\u2014they are afraid. They don\u2019t know how to talk about it \/ they don\u2019t broach the topic\u2014any of those things. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, what we do with fear is\u2014we know that there is a perfect love that casts that out. So, we talk to our kids, knowing that Jesus Christ loves us enough to care for our families. We talk to them, knowing that the only thing that\u2019s going to conquer any sort of sin in them that wants to view pornography, is Christ\u2019s love. It\u2019s the only thing better; right?\u2014\u201cJesus is better,\u201d\u2014and that\u2019s how we start with our kids. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSee, I hadn\u2019t had a conversation with my kids about this until I wrote this chapter. With my boys, I felt like: \u201cOh, they don\u2019t look at it. They\u2019re not going to look at it. We\u2019ve put some firewalls up, and they know they are not supposed to because we\u2019ve told them, \u2018Don\u2019t...\u2019\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Their ages are?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>Fifteen and thirteen. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Okay. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>Okay; so, we had talked to them about it in that sense\u2014like, \u201cYou better <em>not<\/em> or everything is getting taken away,\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014but never really <em>explained<\/em> to them <em>why<\/em>: \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cWhy is it wrong to look at pornography?\u00a0 Is that just a sin between you and God?\u201d\u00a0 It\u2019s not! You\u2019re sinning against these people that you\u2019re viewing, too, because they could be a sex slave. You viewing pornography could actually be imprisoning them. They could be enslaved to drugs, and they are doing pornography so that they can carry on this addiction. You\u2019re actually hurting these people you are viewing too\u2014let alone the fact they are made in the image of God and you are <em>reducing<\/em> them to something less than for your own pleasure.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Then, to add to that: \u201cThat\u2019s somebody\u2019s daughter\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>Right! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014\u201cyou\u2019re looking at.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>Yes, or \u201csister.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>And I\u2019ve said to guys\u2014I\u2019ve said: \u201cIf some guy came to you and said, \u2018Would you mind \/ it be okay?\u2014I\u2019d just like to look at your daughter\u2014just like to have her take her clothes off and have a look at that?\u2019\u201d\u00a0 Any dad, in America, would say, \u201cThat\u2019s okay. Yes, that\u2019d be fine\u201d?\u2014or around the world for that matter; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I think we have to recognize, \u201cWe wouldn\u2019t want anybody looking at our daughters;\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014\u201cwe\u2019re going to go look at somebody else\u2019s daughter\u201d?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tElyse, did you have these conversations with your boys?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Elyse: <\/strong>I think I might have had the kind of conversation with the boys that would have been very surface: \u201cJust don\u2019t do it,\u201d and \u201cIf we catch you\u2026.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>If you were doing it again today, what would you do differently?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Elyse: <\/strong>Oh, so much differently. You see, there is no way in the world\u2014there was an article that was written\u2014maybe, 75 or 100 years ago\u2014called \u201cThe Expulsive Power of a New Affection.\u201d\u00a0 The only reason\u2014the only thing that will take away the <em>desire<\/em> for one thing you are seeking after pleasure with \/ one thing that you are desiring is something better\u2014so, then, to come at that desire that would be in their hearts\u2014and say: \u201cYou know, I understand this. This is a desire that\u2019s in your heart. Let me tell you about a better love.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think that a lot of times we pile so much guilt\u2014and there is guilt involved in this\u2014but when a young man is struggling with pornography, he feels guilty every time he clicks on it. He feels guilty. What will help him fight that?\u00a0 It\u2019s not more guilt because guilt makes you think, \u201cGod hates me.\u201d\u00a0 It\u2019s the message of the gospel, which says: \u201cJesus Christ bore this for you. There is something <em>better<\/em>\u2014it\u2019s His love.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tFighting it from that direction\u2014really seeking to help that young man or young woman, now. Let\u2019s just say it, \u201cWomen are looking at pornography as well.\u201d What\u2019s better than that is the love of a Savior\u2014and to continue to go back and talk about the forgiveness and love. There is so much pleasure in pondering the forgiveness, and love, and adoption, and reconciliation of the Savior. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s so much better than that <em>fleeting<\/em> image; but it\u2019s a different situation now because I could have\u2014I mean, I searched my boys\u2019 rooms; okay?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>Right\u2014looking for magazines\u2014because, back in the day, that\u2019s\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Elyse: <\/strong>Exactly. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Elyse: <\/strong>Looking for magazines but, now, it\u2019s a different deal entirely. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, I know Jessica gets her boys phones\u2014she just takes them, and she won\u2019t tell them she is going to. She just takes them, and she looks\u2014they know she will do that. Perhaps, that\u2019s a little bit of a restraint; but that\u2019s not going to restrain them when they are 18. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>No, they need to know the Restrainer, and we\u2019ve come full circle on this. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Elyse: <\/strong>Yes; yes!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>We started out talking about the need of a child to have a true love for Jesus Christ to know He died for them and that He redeemed them. He is the One who changes hearts. As you said\u2014gives them a heart of flesh to be able to obey God and want to turn away from evil and do what\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tTo that teenager, who is listening to us right now: \u201cDo you have a relationship with Christ?\u201d\u2014that would be the question I\u2019d have\u2014or: \u201cAre you playing church, as Jessica was doing?\u00a0 Are you faking it?\u201d\u00a0 Your great need is to be born again. It\u2019s basically to place your faith in Christ and trust in Him for the forgiveness of your sins. And to the parents\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>And by the way, that doesn\u2019t have to be a teenager. That can be a 30-, or 40-, or 50-year-old, who is still playing the game and trying to act right. It doesn\u2019t go\u2014it can be anybody. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Or it can be a parent, who is listening to us right now,\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014and say, \u201cYes, my kids really need this,\u201d but you haven\u2019t made a commitment. The question is\u2014first of all\u2014\u201cAre you born again?\u201d\u00a0 If you are and you are a parent, you really do have a responsibility to introduce your children to the truth about them\u2014 that they are broken and they need a Redeemer.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>21:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jessica: <\/strong>That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>They need a Savior. That\u2019s done by faith and a commitment to Christ. It is a work of God.
