Thanks for joining us on the Tuesday edition. You\u2019ve never tried to change Barbara; have you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Oh, are you kidding me?! [Laughter] I mean, I just was listening to him and I had to smile as he said that. What man hasn\u2019t tried to get his wife to act more like a man?\u2014when he married her to be a woman in the first place?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Right!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> It really makes zero sense; but we struggle with allowing our wives to be different, and to be a female, and all that entails. Sometimes, it just rubs us the wrong way.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> And I think the wives would admit that they\u2019ve had a tendency to want to change their husbands. In fact, I shared at the <em>Weekend to Remember<\/em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup> marriage getaway, recently, that the marriage ceremony is set up to try to convince a wife that she\u2019s supposed to change her husband because\u2014she gets to the back of the church\u2014the first thing she sees is the aisle she\u2019s going to walk down. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tShe looks up ahead and she sees the altar, where she\u2019s going to get married. She hears a hymn, playing in the background; and she keeps thinking, \u201cAisle, Altar, Hymn,\u201d\u2014[Laughter]\u2014\u201cI\u2019ll alter him.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Oh, that\u2019s bad!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> That is a bad one. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> It really is. Boooo!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> But the point that we\u2019re going to hear today, from Kirk Cameron, is that, when we start to think about change in marriage, we really have to start looking in the mirror; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> We do. I think what Kirk kind of said, under his breath, about how they have achieved a successful marriage in the midst of being in Hollywood is really pretty remarkable. I think the reason they\u2019ve been successful is their faith in Jesus Christ, their belief in the Scriptures, and their <em>obedience<\/em> to those Scriptures.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> The message we\u2019re going to hear today was presented just a couple of weeks ago. It was Monday night onboard the <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup> marriage cruise, which we hosted right before Valentine\u2019s Day, a few weeks back. We had a sold-out ship for the 5<sup>th<\/sup> year in a row. Kirk and Chelsea Cameron were our opening-night speakers who spoke to couples. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe also heard from Voddie Baucham, Dave and Ann Wilson, you spoke\u2014there were break-out sessions. We got a chance to get a sneak preview of the brand-new movie from the Kendrick brothers that\u2019s coming out this fall. We had concerts from Steven Curtis Chapman and Andrew Peterson.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Michael, Jr.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes, it really was a great event! The thing that made it so special was we got to spend time together, as husbands and wives.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Cell phones were off!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> That\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> We were cruising along in the Gulf of Mexico, heading toward Cozumel.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> We had people speaking into our lives, offering spiritual counsel. We had time to relax \/ we had some entertainment. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> In fact, one of the things I asked a young lady was, \u201cSo what\u2019s the high point of the cruise for you?\u201d She opened her journal. Bob, she had a list of new friends\u2014of other couples she had met and what she had learned from them.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And she\u2019d been on the cruise multiple years\u2014so she was turning to multiple pages with different groups of people she\u2019s met each year. Some of those friendships are enduring, going forward.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Well, in fact, the cruise for 2016, which is Valentine\u2019s week of 2016\u2014it is already half-booked. A lot of the folks, who were on the cruise this year, said, \u201cWe\u2019re coming back next year.\u201d We\u2019re adding a day to the cruise next year, and we\u2019re on a little bit bigger ship. We live in Hollywood, but we don\u2019t play <em>Wife Swap<\/em> or husband swap like a lot of other couples are doing in our town\u2014we\u2019re committed to one another.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHere are a few things that I\u2019ve learned. I\u2019m not going to give you a big speech or a big sermon. You\u2019ve got some <em>powerful <\/em>stuff coming from some of the people who are going to be coming for the rest of this week. I want to give you some tasty morsels that you can chew on and just digest. I\u2019m hoping you can relate to this\u2014three things that I\u2019ve learned in marriage that are probably the three most basic things and, without which, my marriage will not work \/ it will fail.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNumber one, I\u2019ve learned that the number one thing that will take down marriage\u2014my marriage\u2014quicker than anything is\u2014not money issues \/ it\u2019s not financial conflict; it\u2019s not trust issues; it\u2019s not communication issues. You know what it is? It\u2019s just plain old selfishness\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014it\u2019s selfishness. That\u2019s the mother-problem that gives birth to every other problem in my marriage. It\u2019s usually my selfishness. I like to say it this way: \u201cThe heart of the problem in my marriage\u201d\u2014and I suggest to yours as well\u2014\u201cis the problem of the heart.\u201d \u201cThe heart of the problem is the problem of the heart.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI can make coffee for my wife every single morning, I can buy her flowers, take her on wonderful marriage cruises, and buy her chocolates, and tell her how much I love her, and, yet, if I don\u2019t have my heart set on honoring and obeying Jesus Christ\u2014repenting of my sins, walking in the fear of the Lord, and devoting myself to my wife and my kids first\u2014all of this is a bunch of bunk. All of this is just going to be a waste of my time and further showing her that my talk is not matching my walk and that I am teaching my children how to be hypocrites and Pharisees.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, if I don\u2019t have things right in my heart with God first\u2014and walking in obedience and priority with my family\u2014I might as well just realize that my marriage is heading down the drain until I get that straightened out.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe second thing that I\u2019ve understood about marriage\u2014that is critical \/ and this is one that takes a long time for me to learn\u2014is that there\u2019s only one person on the planet that I can change. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tGuys, how many times have you tried to change your wife to get her to think more like you think? Am I the only one? Ladies, how many calories have you burned trying to change that man into the husband that you want him to be?\u2014right? Okay; how has that been working for you?\u2014either side? Not great; right? I think I know why. I think it\u2019s because there\u2019s a principle\u2014I don\u2019t have a verse to back this up\u2014but I think it\u2019s because God reserves the privilege of changing your spouse for Himself.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThere\u2019s only one person on the planet that I can change and that you can change. It\u2019s not the guy sitting next to you or the girl sitting next to you. It\u2019s not about getting a new spouse. Here it is\u2014it\u2019s about giving your spouse a new you. It\u2019s not about getting a new spouse \/ it\u2019s about giving your spouse a new you. [Applause]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tA third thing I would put right there at the top of the list is understanding that I have to be daily engaged in a battle to defeat sin because, if I stay in neutral and just wait to avoid sin when it comes pounding on the gates of my life, my family, my thoughts\u2014that\u2019s a losing strategy. It will destroy me and it will destroy my marriage.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019ve got to be engaged with a strategy to defeat sin. My strategy is a two-part strategy, and I want you to think about this too. Don\u2019t just have the \u201cDon\u2019t do it\u201d plan: \u201cDon\u2019t do that!\u201d \u201cDon\u2019t look at that!\u201d \u201cDon\u2019t talk to that girl that way!\u201d \u201cDon\u2019t make that an idol!\u201d Don\u2019t go with that plan because the \u201cI want it!\u201d disease is always bigger and stronger than simply the \u201cDon\u2019t do it,\u201d plan.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019ve got to have a heart that\u2019s regenerated by the Spirit of God and then wage war against that which is waging war against me in my life. I\u2019ve learned that \/ I have to do that. That\u2019s the two-part strategy that I\u2019ve learned to be very, very effective.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWithout those three things, I don\u2019t know anything about marriage that can help me, or you, or anybody else. Is that resonating with you\u2014those few principles? [Audience affirming response] Good.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI heard a great message from one of my favorite preachers on one verse in the Bible. The message that he gave was titled \u201cHow to Fix Your Wife by Faith.\u201d I thought, \u201cThat\u2019s a great title.\u201d But this was \u201cHow to Fix Your Wife by Faith.\u201d It was a great message, and this is the verse\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014it\u2019s in 1 Peter, Chapter 3, verse 7: \u201cLikewise, you husbands\u201d\u2014and, by the way, this is a verse for husbands only \/ not for the ladies. Ladies, there\u2019s nothing for you to do here. Please don\u2019t elbow your husband in the ribs \/ he didn\u2019t bring his rib-guards this evening. Just sit back and listen. Guys, this is for us. Check this out. This is how to fix your wife! \u201cLikewise, you husbands, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife as to the weaker vessel and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat\u2019s a powerful verse. I want to break it down for you into the six parts that, if you have your heart right with God \/ if you\u2019re walking in the fear of the Lord\u2014understanding that, if you woke up not in hell this morning, God\u2019s been <em>really<\/em> gracious to you. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf you understand that, and you want to obey Him, and you\u2019re not looking to push the blame off on your wife, and you recognize you need to simply be the guy that God wants you to be, and you want to do that, and you are up for the challenge of cutting the head off of sin, then check this out: \u201c\u2026husbands, dwell with them\u2026\u201d Here\u2019s the first principle here. I was taught that that little phrase is all about spending time with your wife\u2014spend time with your wife. Husbands, spend time with your wife. It\u2019s a huge deal. If you want to have a great marriage \/ if I want to have a <em>great<\/em> marriage\u2014a happening marriage\u2014I\u2019ve got to spend time with her. There\u2019s no substitute for that; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tGuys, we can\u2019t get a great marriage simply by sleeping in the same bed with a woman, or by living under the same roof, driving around in the same car, watching the same TV. That stuff\u2019s good\u2014that stuff\u2019s right\u2014but we\u2019ve got to intentionally pour time into the art and science of marriage or we\u2019re not going to have a great marriage; right? Spend time with my wife.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201c\u2026husbands, dwell with them with understanding\u2026\u201d Alright, here\u2019s the second part of that verse\u2014that literally means \u201caccording to knowledge.\u201d I\u2019ve learned that I\u2019ve got to study my wife if I\u2019m going to understand her. She\u2019s not naturally someone I understand when she reacts a certain way, or thinks a certain way, or says a certain something\u2014sometimes, that\u2019s very confusing to me. So, I\u2019ve got to learn to study my wife. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou could put it like this\u2014before you married your wife, I bet money that you were studying her like <em>nobody\u2019s business<\/em>\u2014[Laughter]\u2014right? You wanted to know everything you could about her: \u201cWhat is her name?\u201d\u2014right? \u201cWhere does she live?\u201d\u2014right? \u201cWhat classes does she take? What is she interested in? What kind of flowers does she like? What kind of music does she like? What kind of food is she into? What is her deal? Is she seeing anybody? What\u2019s his name? Where does he live?\u201d\u2014[Laughter]\u2014right? \u201cI need to go take care of that obstacle and get that out of the way!\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cI need to absorb lots of information about this girl so that I can win her,\u201d\u2014right? \u201c\u2026win her heart\u2014she is a treasure!\u201d The more you found out, the more excited you were to have her as your own; right? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWell, now that you\u2019ve got the graduation certificate \/ now that you\u2019ve got your diploma\u2014the marriage piece of paper\u2014you\u2019ve got to keep studying your wife. I\u2019ve got to keep studying my wife, and get my Bachelor\u2019s Degree, and my Master\u2019s Degree and, ultimately, a Doctorate, in my wife.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf we\u2019re going to \u201clive with her with understanding,\u201d we\u2019ve got to know what fires her up \/ we\u2019ve got to know what brings her down. We should know what she loves and what she hates. Maybe you\u2019re like me and you need to get a couple of 3x5 cards. I don\u2019t have my wallet with me but, if I did, I would pull them out and show you that I take notes: \u201cOh, my wife loved it when I said that. I\u2019m going to say that again,\u201d\u2014[Laughter]\u2014right?\u2014like flash cards\u2014\u201cWhoa! She didn\u2019t like it when I said that. I\u2019m not sayin\u2019 that again!\u201d [Laughter]\u2014right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut you get the idea!\u2014become a student of your wife.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLet\u2019s keep going\u2014\u201c\u2026giving honor to the wife\u2026\u201d God\u2019s saying that we need to be honoring our wife. This means more than just respect. What do you say about your wife in front of other people? If I wanted to find out if Bob Lepine was really honoring his wife\u2014it is not just because he\u2019s the FamilyLife guy\u2014right?\u2014what I could do to give me an idea is to say: \u201cHey, Bob, let me have your parents\u2019 phone number,\u201d or \u201cLet me have your brother or sister\u2019s phone number,\u201d or \u201cHow about your wife\u2019s parents? How about your friends, at work, that you know but your wife doesn\u2019t know?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, I could call them on the phone and say: \u201cHey, does Bob ever talk about his wife? What does he say?\u201d \u201cOh, he never talks about her,\u201d \/ \u201cOh, he does talk about her.\u201d \u201cWell, what kind of words does he use? What exactly is he saying?\u201d\u2014right? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI see men, who honor their wives in front of other men, and it\u2019s an <em>awesome<\/em> thing \/ it\u2019s a powerful thing! That just builds appreciation into \/ and value into his wife, especially if she\u2019s around to catch wind of it, either in person or through someone else who heard that and circles back and tells her. Husbands, we\u2019re to honor our wives. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe can do that in front of our kids\u2014by not criticizing her or contradicting her\u2014but building her up, and appreciating her, and talking with words that ascribe <em>value<\/em> in front of friends, parents, strangers, kids. You get the idea.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201c\u2026husbands, dwell with your wives with understanding, giving honor to the wife as to the weaker vessel...\u201d Alright, here\u2019s a great principle. Protect your wife \u201cas the weaker vessel.\u201d Now, this is not talking about inferiority or weakness\u2014spiritually, or emotionally\/intellectually. Many of us guys know that we married up in that category; right?\u2014in some of those categories. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut, physically, women are weaker; and men are designed to be <em>protectors<\/em> of their wives. We can protect our wives in <em>so many<\/em> ways\u2014physically \/ we can protect our wives emotionally\u2014we can learn to understand where she feels unprotected and begin to bring protection in those areas.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf you have a job that takes you out of town, we can go a long way by sitting her down and letting her know that, even in our absence, we\u2019ve taken time to talk to the neighbors, and our parents\/our in-laws, making sure that she\u2019s okay and that she has what she needs. We\u2019re going to check in and we\u2019re going to talk. You\u2019re not leaving her unprotected \/ or the kids because you\u2019re not there. Men are to be protectors of their wives because she\u2019s the weaker vessel. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd \u201c\u2026as being heirs together of the grace of life,\u201d\u2014that\u2019s the fifth section of that verse. This is about doing life together\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u00a0\u201c\u2026as heirs together of the grace of life\u2026\u201d God has an inheritance of grace, and we are heirs together with our wife. I think the key there is to learn how to <em>do <\/em>life together with our wife by opening up to her. Some of us guys have a habit of being very tight-lipped and sort of quiet when it comes to what we\u2019re thinking and how we\u2019re feeling. Many of our wives know this syndrome of feeling like she is living with a closed book\u2014you don\u2019t know what\u2019s inside.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSome of us guys can be very comfortable\u2014allowing our wives only to read the title of the book, and the author\u2019s name, but none of the information on the inside. Often, our wives can find themselves looking elsewhere for emotional connection\u2014with friends, or parents, or children\u2014because they\u2019re giving what she\u2019s giving. They\u2019re opening up to one another. That back and forth creates a togetherness that is just part of the way God built us. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd, finally, \u201c\u2026so that your prayers may not be hindered,\u201d\u2014end of verse. God is saying to do all these things, guys, <em>so that <\/em>your prayers are not hindered. The inference there, I think, is clear\u2014you don\u2019t want your prayers hindered\u2014right? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSomeone, who\u2019s out in the field, doing battle with an enemy, knows that they don\u2019t want their communication systems to go out. That\u2019s a very dangerous thing; isn\u2019t it?\u2014because that\u2019s communication back to headquarters, where you have reinforcements and supplies \/ back-up. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd what is prayer? That\u2019s earth-to-heaven communication, where we get our supply\u2014of grace, our supply of mercy, of patience, of long-suffering, of wisdom\u2014which we desperately need. You don\u2019t want your prayers cut off. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tGod is saying, \u201cDo these things, guys, so that that communication is rich and clear,\u201d and these blessings come down from heaven because of God\u2019s grace.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSpend time with your wife, study her, honor her, protect her, open up with her, and pray with her. I find that to be the best verse in the whole world for me, in marriage, because it\u2019s not about changing my wife. It actually fixes so much in my wife because I\u2019m being the guy that God\u2019s calling me to be\u2014for Him and for her. So, I just want to leave you guys with this\u2014at the end of the day, you\u2019re responsible for your marriage \/ for your family; and I\u2019m responsible for mine. Here\u2019s the hardest thing I\u2019ll say tonight\u2014you even have to be responsible for stuff that you didn\u2019t do\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014because Jesus took responsibility for a lot of stuff that He did not do. If we\u2019re going to love our wives the way Christ loved the church, that\u2019s the order of instruction. We\u2019re blessed to have a treasure of a wife to be there with us in the process. [Applause]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Studio]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Well, we\u2019ve been listening, again, to Kirk Cameron, from opening night of the <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em> marriage cruise, a few weeks back, as he was talking about some of the lessons he\u2019s had to learn, as a husband, about how to be a student of your wife and how to live with her in an understanding way.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And what you heard from him was an authentic story. He didn\u2019t paint it as though he was some kind of actor and she was an actress, where everything ended up perfect in the end. No, he painted it\u2014warts and all. He shared some stories, as you just heard, about how they\u2019ve had some difficulties in their marriage. They\u2019re raising a bunch of kids. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>21:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI started to say a \u201cboatload\u201d of kids, but that might be inappropriate, here, talking about the <em>Love Like You Mean It <\/em>marriage cruise. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut, Bob, he also talked about a biblical solution of following Jesus Christ and being obedient to what He commanded us to do because you can know the right thing and, if you don\u2019t do it, then, at that point, you\u2019re called a hearer only and not someone who\u2019s a <em>doer <\/em>of the Word. That\u2019s where all of us need the challenge, I think, to put some shoe leather to it and to be obedient to Jesus Christ in our marriages.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I think by the time everyone was done with the <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em> marriage cruise, they got off the ship with some action points\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Oh, yes!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014some ways that their marriage can be stronger.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> At the same time, they got off with some fresh hope and with just some wind in their sails because it\u2019s a relaxing, enjoyable week. I mean, you\u2019re a little tired by the time it\u2019s all over, because you\u2019ve stayed up late and gotten up early, but you also walk off refreshed from the week away.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>22:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I mean, how many vacations can you go on where you hear some of the best communicators in America, some of the cleanest entertainers and musicians, and just have a good time relating to people and deciding what the schedule\u2019s going to be? You can go to the meetings if you want to, or you can skip them \/ sleep in, or go eat something.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, tell the truth, Bob. When you got there\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014what was the first place that you hit? Was it your room or was it the free yogurt and the ice cream?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I did not go immediately to the ice cream machine. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Not immediately!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I did not go immediately there! [Laughter] I did go to the dining room immediately, but I waited on the ice cream. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Yes, that\u2019s true. I was in the dining room immediately too\u2014but that was where our meeting was\u2014I knew that was where you were. [Laughter] I thought you might have slipped and had a little detour before you got there.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> No. No detour; no detour! In fact, I shared at the <em>Weekend to Remember<\/em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup> marriage getaway, recently, that the marriage ceremony is set up to try to convince a wife that she\u2019s supposed to change her husband because\u2014she gets to the back of the church\u2014the first thing she sees is the aisle she\u2019s going to walk down. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tShe looks up ahead and she sees the altar, where she\u2019s going to get married. She hears a hymn, playing in the background; and she keeps thinking, \u201cAisle, Altar, Hymn,\u201d\u2014[Laughter]\u2014\u201cI\u2019ll alter him.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Oh, that\u2019s bad!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> That is a bad one. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> It really is. Boooo!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> But the point that we\u2019re going to hear today, from Kirk Cameron, is that, when we start to think about change in marriage, we really have to start looking in the mirror; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> We do. I think what Kirk kind of said, under his breath, about how they have achieved a successful marriage in the midst of being in Hollywood is really pretty remarkable. I think the reason they\u2019ve been successful is their faith in Jesus Christ, their belief in the Scriptures, and their <em>obedience<\/em> to those Scriptures.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> The message we\u2019re going to hear today was presented just a couple of weeks ago. It was Monday night onboard the <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup> marriage cruise, which we hosted right before Valentine\u2019s Day, a few weeks back. We had a sold-out ship for the 5<sup>th<\/sup> year in a row. Kirk and Chelsea Cameron were our opening-night speakers who spoke to couples. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe also heard from Voddie Baucham, Dave and Ann Wilson, you spoke\u2014there were break-out sessions. We got a chance to get a sneak preview of the brand-new movie from the Kendrick brothers that\u2019s coming out this fall. We had concerts from Steven Curtis Chapman and Andrew Peterson.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Michael, Jr.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes, it really was a great event! The thing that made it so special was we got to spend time together, as husbands and wives.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Cell phones were off!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> That\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> We were cruising along in the Gulf of Mexico, heading toward Cozumel.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> We had people speaking into our lives, offering spiritual counsel. We had time to relax \/ we had some entertainment. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> In fact, one of the things I asked a young lady was, \u201cSo what\u2019s the high point of the cruise for you?\u201d She opened her journal. Bob, she had a list of new friends\u2014of other couples she had met and what she had learned from them.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And she\u2019d been on the cruise multiple years\u2014so she was turning to multiple pages with different groups of people she\u2019s met each year. Some of those friendships are enduring, going forward.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Well, in fact, the cruise for 2016, which is Valentine\u2019s week of 2016\u2014it is already half-booked. We live in Hollywood, but we don\u2019t play <em>Wife Swap<\/em> or husband swap like a lot of other couples are doing in our town\u2014we\u2019re committed to one another.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHere are a few things that I\u2019ve learned. I\u2019m not going to give you a big speech or a big sermon. You\u2019ve got some <em>powerful <\/em>stuff coming from some of the people who are going to be coming for the rest of this week. I want to give you some tasty morsels that you can chew on and just digest. I\u2019m hoping you can relate to this\u2014three things that I\u2019ve learned in marriage that are probably the three most basic things and, without which, my marriage will not work \/ it will fail.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNumber one, I\u2019ve learned that the number one thing that will take down marriage\u2014my marriage\u2014quicker than anything is\u2014not money issues \/ it\u2019s not financial conflict; it\u2019s not trust issues; it\u2019s not communication issues. You know what it is? It\u2019s just plain old selfishness\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014it\u2019s selfishness. That\u2019s the mother-problem that gives birth to every other problem in my marriage. It\u2019s usually my selfishness. I like to say it this way: \u201cThe heart of the problem in my marriage\u201d\u2014and I suggest to yours as well\u2014\u201cis the problem of the heart.\u201d \u201cThe heart of the problem is the problem of the heart.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI can make coffee for my wife every single morning, I can buy her flowers, take her on wonderful marriage cruises, and buy her chocolates, and tell her how much I love her, and, yet, if I don\u2019t have my heart set on honoring and obeying Jesus Christ\u2014repenting of my sins, walking in the fear of the Lord, and devoting myself to my wife and my kids first\u2014all of this is a bunch of bunk. All of this is just going to be a waste of my time and further showing her that my talk is not matching my walk and that I am teaching my children how to be hypocrites and Pharisees.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, if I don\u2019t have things right in my heart with God first\u2014and walking in obedience and priority with my family\u2014I might as well just realize that my marriage is heading down the drain until I get that straightened out.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe second thing that I\u2019ve understood about marriage\u2014that is critical \/ and this is one that takes a long time for me to learn\u2014is that there\u2019s only one person on the planet that I can change. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tGuys, how many times have you tried to change your wife to get her to think more like you think? Am I the only one? Ladies, how many calories have you burned trying to change that man into the husband that you want him to be?\u2014right? Okay; how has that been working for you?\u2014either side? Not great; right? I think I know why. I think it\u2019s because there\u2019s a principle\u2014I don\u2019t have a verse to back this up\u2014but I think it\u2019s because God reserves the privilege of changing your spouse for Himself.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThere\u2019s only one person on the planet that I can change and that you can change. It\u2019s not the guy sitting next to you or the girl sitting next to you. It\u2019s not about getting a new spouse. Here it is\u2014it\u2019s about giving your spouse a new you. It\u2019s not about getting a new spouse \/ it\u2019s about giving your spouse a new you. [Applause]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tA third thing I would put right there at the top of the list is understanding that I have to be daily engaged in a battle to defeat sin because, if I stay in neutral and just wait to avoid sin when it comes pounding on the gates of my life, my family, my thoughts\u2014that\u2019s a losing strategy. It will destroy me and it will destroy my marriage.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019ve got to be engaged with a strategy to defeat sin. My strategy is a two-part strategy, and I want you to think about this too. Don\u2019t just have the \u201cDon\u2019t do it\u201d plan: \u201cDon\u2019t do that!\u201d \u201cDon\u2019t look at that!\u201d \u201cDon\u2019t talk to that girl that way!\u201d \u201cDon\u2019t make that an idol!\u201d Don\u2019t go with that plan because the \u201cI want it!\u201d disease is always bigger and stronger than simply the \u201cDon\u2019t do it,\u201d plan.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019ve got to have a heart that\u2019s regenerated by the Spirit of God and then wage war against that which is waging war against me in my life. I\u2019ve learned that \/ I have to do that. That\u2019s the two-part strategy that I\u2019ve learned to be very, very effective.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWithout those three things, I don\u2019t know anything about marriage that can help me, or you, or anybody else. Is that resonating with you\u2014those few principles? [Audience affirming response] Good.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI heard a great message from one of my favorite preachers on one verse in the Bible. The message that he gave was titled \u201cHow to Fix Your Wife by Faith.\u201d I thought, \u201cThat\u2019s a great title.\u201d But this was \u201cHow to Fix Your Wife by Faith.\u201d It was a great message, and this is the verse\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014it\u2019s in 1 Peter, Chapter 3, verse 7: \u201cLikewise, you husbands\u201d\u2014and, by the way, this is a verse for husbands only \/ not for the ladies. Ladies, there\u2019s nothing for you to do here. Please don\u2019t elbow your husband in the ribs \/ he didn\u2019t bring his rib-guards this evening. Just sit back and listen. Guys, this is for us. Check this out. This is how to fix your wife! \u201cLikewise, you husbands, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife as to the weaker vessel and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat\u2019s a powerful verse. I want to break it down for you into the six parts that, if you have your heart right with God \/ if you\u2019re walking in the fear of the Lord\u2014understanding that, if you woke up not in hell this morning, God\u2019s been <em>really<\/em> gracious to you. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf you understand that, and you want to obey Him, and you\u2019re not looking to push the blame off on your wife, and you recognize you need to simply be the guy that God wants you to be, and you want to do that, and you are up for the challenge of cutting the head off of sin, then check this out: \u201c\u2026husbands, dwell with them\u2026\u201d Here\u2019s the first principle here. I was taught that that little phrase is all about spending time with your wife\u2014spend time with your wife. Husbands, spend time with your wife. It\u2019s a huge deal. If you want to have a great marriage \/ if I want to have a <em>great<\/em> marriage\u2014a happening marriage\u2014I\u2019ve got to spend time with her. There\u2019s no substitute for that; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tGuys, we can\u2019t get a great marriage simply by sleeping in the same bed with a woman, or by living under the same roof, driving around in the same car, watching the same TV. That stuff\u2019s good\u2014that stuff\u2019s right\u2014but we\u2019ve got to intentionally pour time into the art and science of marriage or we\u2019re not going to have a great marriage; right? Spend time with my wife.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201c\u2026husbands, dwell with them with understanding\u2026\u201d Alright, here\u2019s the second part of that verse\u2014that literally means \u201caccording to knowledge.\u201d I\u2019ve learned that I\u2019ve got to study my wife if I\u2019m going to understand her. She\u2019s not naturally someone I understand when she reacts a certain way, or thinks a certain way, or says a certain something\u2014sometimes, that\u2019s very confusing to me. So, I\u2019ve got to learn to study my wife. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou could put it like this\u2014before you married your wife, I bet money that you were studying her like <em>nobody\u2019s business<\/em>\u2014[Laughter]\u2014right? You wanted to know everything you could about her: \u201cWhat is her name?\u201d\u2014right? \u201cWhere does she live?\u201d\u2014right? \u201cWhat classes does she take? What is she interested in? What kind of flowers does she like? What kind of music does she like? What kind of food is she into? What is her deal? Is she seeing anybody? What\u2019s his name? Where does he live?\u201d\u2014[Laughter]\u2014right? \u201cI need to go take care of that obstacle and get that out of the way!\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cI need to absorb lots of information about this girl so that I can win her,\u201d\u2014right? \u201c\u2026win her heart\u2014she is a treasure!\u201d The more you found out, the more excited you were to have her as your own; right? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWell, now that you\u2019ve got the graduation certificate \/ now that you\u2019ve got your diploma\u2014the marriage piece of paper\u2014you\u2019ve got to keep studying your wife. I\u2019ve got to keep studying my wife, and get my Bachelor\u2019s Degree, and my Master\u2019s Degree and, ultimately, a Doctorate, in my wife.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf we\u2019re going to \u201clive with her with understanding,\u201d we\u2019ve got to know what fires her up \/ we\u2019ve got to know what brings her down. We should know what she loves and what she hates. Maybe you\u2019re like me and you need to get a couple of 3x5 cards. I don\u2019t have my wallet with me but, if I did, I would pull them out and show you that I take notes: \u201cOh, my wife loved it when I said that. I\u2019m going to say that again,\u201d\u2014[Laughter]\u2014right?\u2014like flash cards\u2014\u201cWhoa! She didn\u2019t like it when I said that. I\u2019m not sayin\u2019 that again!\u201d [Laughter]\u2014right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut you get the idea!\u2014become a student of your wife.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLet\u2019s keep going\u2014\u201c\u2026giving honor to the wife\u2026\u201d God\u2019s saying that we need to be honoring our wife. This means more than just respect. What do you say about your wife in front of other people? If I wanted to find out if Bob Lepine was really honoring his wife\u2014it is not just because he\u2019s the FamilyLife guy\u2014right?\u2014what I could do to give me an idea is to say: \u201cHey, Bob, let me have your parents\u2019 phone number,\u201d or \u201cLet me have your brother or sister\u2019s phone number,\u201d or \u201cHow about your wife\u2019s parents? How about your friends, at work, that you know but your wife doesn\u2019t know?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, I could call them on the phone and say: \u201cHey, does Bob ever talk about his wife? What does he say?\u201d \u201cOh, he never talks about her,\u201d \/ \u201cOh, he does talk about her.\u201d \u201cWell, what kind of words does he use? What exactly is he saying?\u201d\u2014right? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI see men, who honor their wives in front of other men, and it\u2019s an <em>awesome<\/em> thing \/ it\u2019s a powerful thing! That just builds appreciation into \/ and value into his wife, especially if she\u2019s around to catch wind of it, either in person or through someone else who heard that and circles back and tells her. Husbands, we\u2019re to honor our wives. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe can do that in front of our kids\u2014by not criticizing her or contradicting her\u2014but building her up, and appreciating her, and talking with words that ascribe <em>value<\/em> in front of friends, parents, strangers, kids. You get the idea.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201c\u2026husbands, dwell with your wives with understanding, giving honor to the wife as to the weaker vessel...\u201d Alright, here\u2019s a great principle. Protect your wife \u201cas the weaker vessel.\u201d Now, this is not talking about inferiority or weakness\u2014spiritually, or emotionally\/intellectually. Many of us guys know that we married up in that category; right?\u2014in some of those categories. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut, physically, women are weaker; and men are designed to be <em>protectors<\/em> of their wives. We can protect our wives in <em>so many<\/em> ways\u2014physically \/ we can protect our wives emotionally\u2014we can learn to understand where she feels unprotected and begin to bring protection in those areas.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf you have a job that takes you out of town, we can go a long way by sitting her down and letting her know that, even in our absence, we\u2019ve taken time to talk to the neighbors, and our parents\/our in-laws, making sure that she\u2019s okay and that she has what she needs. We\u2019re going to check in and we\u2019re going to talk. You\u2019re not leaving her unprotected \/ or the kids because you\u2019re not there. Men are to be protectors of their wives because she\u2019s the weaker vessel. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd \u201c\u2026as being heirs together of the grace of life,\u201d\u2014that\u2019s the fifth section of that verse. This is about doing life together\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u00a0\u201c\u2026as heirs together of the grace of life\u2026\u201d God has an inheritance of grace, and we are heirs together with our wife. I think the key there is to learn how to <em>do <\/em>life together with our wife by opening up to her. Some of us guys have a habit of being very tight-lipped and sort of quiet when it comes to what we\u2019re thinking and how we\u2019re feeling. Many of our wives know this syndrome of feeling like she is living with a closed book\u2014you don\u2019t know what\u2019s inside.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSome of us guys can be very comfortable\u2014allowing our wives only to read the title of the book, and the author\u2019s name, but none of the information on the inside. Often, our wives can find themselves looking elsewhere for emotional connection\u2014with friends, or parents, or children\u2014because they\u2019re giving what she\u2019s giving. They\u2019re opening up to one another. That back and forth creates a togetherness that is just part of the way God built us. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd, finally, \u201c\u2026so that your prayers may not be hindered,\u201d\u2014end of verse. God is saying to do all these things, guys, <em>so that <\/em>your prayers are not hindered. The inference there, I think, is clear\u2014you don\u2019t want your prayers hindered\u2014right? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSomeone, who\u2019s out in the field, doing battle with an enemy, knows that they don\u2019t want their communication systems to go out. That\u2019s a very dangerous thing; isn\u2019t it?\u2014because that\u2019s communication back to headquarters, where you have reinforcements and supplies \/ back-up. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd what is prayer? That\u2019s earth-to-heaven communication, where we get our supply\u2014of grace, our supply of mercy, of patience, of long-suffering, of wisdom\u2014which we desperately need. You don\u2019t want your prayers cut off. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tGod is saying, \u201cDo these things, guys, so that that communication is rich and clear,\u201d and these blessings come down from heaven because of God\u2019s grace.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSpend time with your wife, study her, honor her, protect her, open up with her, and pray with her. I find that to be the best verse in the whole world for me, in marriage, because it\u2019s not about changing my wife. It actually fixes so much in my wife because I\u2019m being the guy that God\u2019s calling me to be\u2014for Him and for her. So, I just want to leave you guys with this\u2014at the end of the day, you\u2019re responsible for your marriage \/ for your family; and I\u2019m responsible for mine. Here\u2019s the hardest thing I\u2019ll say tonight\u2014you even have to be responsible for stuff that you didn\u2019t do\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014because Jesus took responsibility for a lot of stuff that He did not do. If we\u2019re going to love our wives the way Christ loved the church, that\u2019s the order of instruction. We\u2019re blessed to have a treasure of a wife to be there with us in the process. [Applause]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Studio]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Well, we\u2019ve been listening, again, to Kirk Cameron, from opening night of the <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em> marriage cruise, a few weeks back, as he was talking about some of the lessons he\u2019s had to learn, as a husband, about how to be a student of your wife and how to live with her in an understanding way.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And what you heard from him was an authentic story. He didn\u2019t paint it as though he was some kind of actor and she was an actress, where everything ended up perfect in the end. No, he painted it\u2014warts and all. He shared some stories, as you just heard, about how they\u2019ve had some difficulties in their marriage. They\u2019re raising a bunch of kids. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>21:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI started to say a \u201cboatload\u201d of kids, but that might be inappropriate, here, talking about the <em>Love Like You Mean It <\/em>marriage cruise. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut, Bob, he also talked about a biblical solution of following Jesus Christ and being obedient to what He commanded us to do because you can know the right thing and, if you don\u2019t do it, then, at that point, you\u2019re called a hearer only and not someone who\u2019s a <em>doer <\/em>of the Word. That\u2019s where all of us need the challenge, I think, to put some shoe leather to it and to be obedient to Jesus Christ in our marriages.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I think by the time everyone was done with the <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em> marriage cruise, they got off the ship with some action points\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Oh, yes!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014some ways that their marriage can be stronger.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> At the same time, they got off with some fresh hope and with just some wind in their sails because it\u2019s a relaxing, enjoyable week. I mean, you\u2019re a little tired by the time it\u2019s all over, because you\u2019ve stayed up late and gotten up early, but you also walk off refreshed from the week away.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>22:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I mean, how many vacations can you go on where you hear some of the best communicators in America, some of the cleanest entertainers and musicians, and just have a good time relating to people and deciding what the schedule\u2019s going to be? You can go to the meetings if you want to, or you can skip them \/ sleep in, or go eat something.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, tell the truth, Bob. When you got there\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014what was the first place that you hit? Was it your room or was it the free yogurt and the ice cream?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I did not go immediately to the ice cream machine. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Not immediately!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I did not go immediately there! [Laughter] I did go to the dining room immediately, but I waited on the ice cream. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Yes, that\u2019s true. I was in the dining room immediately too\u2014but that was where our meeting was\u2014I knew that was where you were. [Laughter] I thought you might have slipped and had a little detour before you got there.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> No. No detour; no detour!
