Can you believe that a couple, like Kirk and Chelsea Cameron\u2014I mean, they met on the set of <em>Growing Pains<\/em>. We watched them fall in love together on television. Can you believe they would ever have conflict in their marriage?\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I can\u2019t believe they\u2019ve lasted. I mean, if you look at Hollywood marriages, they are an anomaly. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>They really are. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And the reality is what they have learned from the Bible, and what you are about to hear, is some great practical illustrations about how not to do some things\u2014because they illustrate that beautifully\u2014but also, what they\u2019ve learned about forgiveness and how to go about resolving conflict. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>We had the opportunity to be with Kirk and Chelsea just a few weeks ago when we were on the <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup> marriage cruise. And I have to tell you\u2014Kirk walked up to me on Monday, and I didn\u2019t recognize him. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Well, I saw him the night before at the hotel; and I went, \u201cGosh, that guy looks a little bit like Kirk Cameron\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014but he had this bushy\u2014I mean, it\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>It wasn\u2019t a full <em>Duck Dynasty<\/em> beard, but\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Close; close. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014it was headed that direction. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes; he didn\u2019t have the overalls on, though. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>So, I asked him, \u201cWhat are you doing with the beard?\u201d\u00a0 He\u2019s just finished a movie that he\u2019s working on\u2014that he and the family are putting together\u2014where he plays\u2014what did he call it?\u2014not a crazy farmer, but\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes, it was a crazy farmer. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>He\u2019s this eccentric character, who\u2019s got a beard and a crew cut. It\u2019s a whole different look for Kirk; isn\u2019t it?\u00a0 <br><br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>It really is. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>So, he and Chelsea joined us onboard the <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em> marriage cruise and spoke to our audience on Monday night and shared about some of the lessons they\u2019ve learned about marriage in the years that they\u2019ve been married, out in Hollywood. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And they shared this on the <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em> marriage cruise. Bob, I\u2019ve got to say to you\u2014we always provide incredible speakers\/great talent. It\u2019s just amazing to me the popularity of a movie star when they\u2019re introduced. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s just that their marriage has gone the distance is fantastic, and they were a great addition to our cruise. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe had a lot of great content, entertainers, and musicians with us for this four-day cruise. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Well, we\u2019re starting to make plans for next year when it\u2019s not going to be a four-day cruise\u2014it\u2019s going to be a five-day cruise. We\u2019re going to be heading out of Miami, Valentine\u2019s week\u2014heading to Jamaica, and then from there to Grand Cayman, then, back to Miami. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI have to tell you\u2014when we wrapped up the cruise this year, the people who were on this year\u2019s cruise\u2014a lot of them said, \u201cWe\u2019re coming back next year.\u201d\u00a0 Next year\u2019s cruise is more than half sold out now. The first time\u2014I want to tell you this, starting really quickly\u2014the first time we came on the cruise, it was kind of a hard sell to Chelsea when I said, \u201cHoney, let\u2019s go on a cruise\u2014it\u2019s a marriage cruise,\u201d because our first experience on a cruise was terrible. It was like\u2014it was like the booze boat from hell [Laughter]\u2014and we didn\u2019t know it because it was a family cruise that we were invited to go on with the rest of the extended family. So, we kind of got roped into going because that was the cruise that they already booked. We went on this cruise\u2014and we get out there\u2014we end up signing up for this excursion called <em>The Jolly Roger<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience: <\/strong>Oh! [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kirk: <\/strong>And it turns out it was <em>The Jolly Roger Rum Boat<\/em>. We didn\u2019t know about the rum boat was. [Laughter]\u00a0 So, we get out there; and I\u2019m with my brother-in-law and sister-in-law and the whole nine yards. I mean, people had so much\u2014they had rum going so much\u2014and there were people swinging off ropes off the mast into the waters. I was just\u2014I was sure someone was going to drown. People were drunk\u2014it was crazy. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, what ended up happening is\u2014 one of the\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014this one lady asked if Chelsea and I would take a picture with her. There were all these drunk people on the boat\u2014and I\u2019m like, \u201cCould we wait until a little bit later?\u201d because, if we get stuck taking pictures with a bunch of drunk people on the boat, it\u2019s not going to be good; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, she went back and told her husband or boyfriend or whoever it was. He got upset that she didn\u2019t get her picture. So, he came and threw beer all over our backs, while we were on the boat. So, then, Chelsea tells her brother\u2014who\u2019s Type-A, alpha dog guy\u2014goes up to the dude and threatens his life. Then, they get into the steel drums; and they are dancing on the booze boat. And this guy goes up to my brother-in-law and just sucker punches him and gives him this big shiner. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd the whole story ends back up\u2014boarding back up on the boats, with Chelsea crying, my brother-in-law with this big black eye and a pair of aviator glasses with one of them broken out so he could see out of this one\u2014and this one was covered by the other one. His wife is in a bikini. I\u2019m over there, thinking to myself: \u201cOh my goodness! This is going to blow my witness. This is going to ruin my career if anyone takes a picture of this,\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014and my brother-in-law is demanding, \u201cSomebody get me the captain of this ship!\u201d\u00a0 I mean, I just wanted the rapture to happen, right there, and get me out of there!\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 Okay\u2014that\u2019s the End Times cruise\u2014okay; we\u2019ll get to that one another time. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe\u2019re going to talk about marriage tonight. Chelsea and I have been married for 24 years, and we\u2019re excited. We have six kids\u201418, 17, 16, 15, 14, and 12\u2014and so, pray for us. [Laughter]\u00a0 They\u2019re all here on the cruise with us, except for our 18-year-old; and they are having a great time somewhere, eating at the endless buffet right now. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd Chelsea and I have realized that marriage is very, very challenging\u2014especially if you come from two different cultures and two different family types. Chelsea and I think differently about things. She comes from New York \/ I\u2019m from Los Angeles. I remember when one scenario pointed out those differences very clearly. We were in my kitchen, newly-married. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI was talking to a buddy of mine, at the table; and Chelsea was washing some dishes at the sink. This was great\u2014everything was going great. I\u2019m talking with my buddy. Chelsea\u2019s over here, washing dishes at the sink; and I\u2019m thinking, \u201cMan, I\u2019ve got this perfect marriage\/\u201d\u2014right?\u2014\u201cmy perfect wife.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tShe starts putting dishes from the sink into the dishwasher, and she\u2019s cleaning some crystal. She moves like this, and all I hear is CRASH [crashing sound]!\u00a0 I look over. I jump up out of my seat, and I can see that she has hit one of the glasses on the cast iron side of the sink and shattered the whole thing. And it was expensive crystal\u2014this was the wedding crystal. I look up, thinking, \u201cI need to fix this situation.\u201d\u00a0 I say to my wife: \u201cHoney! You\u2019ve got to be more careful,\u201d thinking, \u201cThis surely will prevent this from happening again.\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, get this\u2014she actually\u2014no kidding\u2014she actually looked at me like she is just\u2014couldn\u2019t believe that I said that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tShe picks up another crystal glass, like this, and looks at me, like this, again\u2014holds it up and drops it right into the cast iron and smashes the whole thing again. I\u2019m thinking to myself, \u201c<em>What have I married<\/em>?!\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chelsea: <\/strong>Well, wait, wait! [Hilarious laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kirk: <\/strong>Yes; okay. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chelsea: <\/strong>Since I\u2019m\u2014okay, girls\u2014do we know there are two sides to this story?\u00a0 [Applause]\u00a0 I remember a <em>full-on scolding<\/em>\u2014scolding. I come from a place where, if you make a mistake\u2014my dad never scolded me for a mistake. So, I\u2019m thinking\u2014well, first, something came over my body. I don\u2019t even know what happened when I grabbed the other one\u2014[Laughter]\u2014but something just took over. I don\u2019t know\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014but I remember thinking: \u201cDid you just scold me for a mistake?\u00a0 <em>What did I marry<\/em>?!\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kirk: <\/strong>Okay, honey; alright. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chelsea: <\/strong>By the way\u2014on that booze cruise\u2014I think, if Kirk was supporting <em>that look<\/em> then, they wouldn\u2019t have messed with him. [Laughter and applause]\u00a0 I\u2019m kind of starting to like it!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen we were on that cruise, I felt like we had a real thing. We were just married and so in love. But you know something?\u2014in 23 years, I\u2019ve learned that it\u2019s in the valley where you are challenged and you realize that marriage is probably one of the <em>main <\/em>journeys where God changes you, and sanctifies you, and teaches you what it means to really love. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen you are in that valley\u2014and you can get your eyes off him, and what you think he\u2019s doing, and you can say: \u201cWhat are You trying to change in me, God?\u00a0 What are You trying to teach <em>me<\/em>?\u201d\u2014and, if you can persevere and you can continue to love through those valleys, when you come out the other end together\u2014now, you really have a thing. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI want\u2014I thought about the limited amount of time I have with you; and I thought, \u201cOh, what do I want to share with you?\u201d\u00a0 I decided to share with you something that I think is the <em>most important<\/em> thing that the Lord has taught <em>me<\/em> about love and about what it takes to have a God-glorifying marriage and a blessed marriage. So, I\u2019m going to start with the Word of God because that\u2019s where the answers are to everything in life. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m going to read from Ephesians 4:25: \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tTherefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor for we are members of one another. Be angry and do not sin. Do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil. Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLet no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up as it fits the occasion that it may give grace to those who hear. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God by whom you were sealed for the day of Redemption. Let all bitterness and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another as God in Christ forgave you. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI want to focus on verse 32: \u201cBe kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another as God in Christ has forgiven you.\u201d\u00a0 I am not wondering, as I stand here, whether or not you\u2019ve ever been hurt in your marriage. I know how life works, and I know that the person sitting next to you has the center of your heart. When things are not right there, things are not right in life; and they have the ability to injure you in a way that nobody else does. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIn Proverbs, it says, \u201cA brother offended is more unyielding than a strong city, and quarreling is like the bars of a castle.\u201d\u00a0 Those walls come up and, \u201cYou said you wouldn\u2019t and you did,\u201d and, \u201cYou said you\u2019d always and you didn\u2019t.\u201d\u00a0 And the walls come up, and we get injured. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe start to treat the person in a certain way. We start to withhold our best from them because we are hurt, and we give our best to others but not him: \u201cYou owe me something!\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThese damaging emotions that God talks about, right here\u2014we start to feel them. \u201cLet all bitterness,\u201d\u2014and that overarching condition of an unforgiving heart\u2014\u201cwrath,\u201d \/ it\u2019s a flowing foaming, \u201cI\u2019m playing the tapes of what happened in my head,\u201d\u2014and then, there\u2019s \u201canger,\u201d \/ then, there\u2019s that outburst of that\u2014and there\u2019s \u201cclamor\u201d\u2014there\u2019s relational strife \/ there\u2019s the bickering and, then, there\u2019s \u201cslander\u201d\u2014and it is the evil intended-to-hurt words. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThese are all very, very damaging emotions. They happen in our marriages so easily\u2014out of the heart, the mouth speaks: \u201cYou hurt me, and you\u2019re never going to have that part of me again,\u201d\u2014it swallows up. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m telling you guys\u2014we have a very real marriage. There are times that you get injured\u2014and I am the kind of person who will retreat to the highest mountain. I mean, he\u2019s in good shape; but he\u2019s not going to be able to climb that mountain!\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 And God\u2014we felt the consequences of that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd then, I heard this message about what marriage really is\u2014which is not really about how I feel. It is to display the covenant union of Christ and His church\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014that patient and forgiving relationship\u2014to bring glory to God out in this world that needs to know Jesus and that covenant relationship He has. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I heard a message about forgiveness and the <em>process<\/em> of forgiveness. You know, I don\u2019t like to oversimplify things\u2014I\u2019m not downplaying anything that\u2019s happened\u2014but there\u2019s one way out of that dark place, where you are shackled to a pain that may have happened\u2014to a disappointment or an expectation that wasn\u2019t met\u2014and it\u2019s through the process of forgiveness. It starts between just you and God\u2014it\u2019s like: \u201cLord, You have forgiven me of <em>so much<\/em> in my life. I found forgiveness at the foot of Your cross. Lord, I\u2019m laying it down. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cI know I\u2019m never more like Jesus than when I\u2019m <em>forgiving<\/em>.\u201d\u00a0 Name it\u2014lay it down and say, \u201cLord, help me to show forth love.\u201d\u00a0 God says when you don\u2019t act on your feelings and you act on your obedience, He comes behind you with a new feeling. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThere\u2019s the process of the decision to forgive; and then, there is acting it out. So, when you start playing the tapes again, you don\u2019t go back to unforgiveness\u2014you go back to the cross: \u201cLord, I ask you, Jesus, take this from me. I lay it at the cross. I need a new day. I need a <em>fresh love<\/em>. Help me to love my husband the way that you love my husband. Help me to get my part right, Lord. I want to be a vessel of the Savior in this home.\u201d\u00a0 Through that process of not going back to the unforgiveness but going back to the cross\u2014right where you found forgiveness \/ where you find forgiveness\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014you can be released of that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI heard a story about Leonardo da Vinci, who painted <em>The Last Supper<\/em>, who had a very serious fight with his best friend before he painted that painting. He painted the likeness of Judas the face of his friend. Then, he went to paint the face of Christ; and he could not. He could not until he went back and changed the face of Judas. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI remember the pastor said: \u201cYou know something? If you want the beauty of Christ to flow through your life \/ in your story with your family and your marriage, you\u2019ve got to learn to forgive. With the help of Jesus and with the help of His Holy Spirit you can have that new day. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cThe beauty of Christ will be displayed to this world and to your families.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou know, I want to speak\u2014say this to the moms and the women here. We are not actresses, playing different roles\u2014we are one woman. When that root \/ that this vessel is bitter, it <em>cannot<\/em> produce sweet fruit. It shows up, and it spills out in other areas of our life\u2014many times in the way we parent because we are critical, and we\u2019re harsh, and we\u2019re\u2014we lose our smile and we lose our joy because we are harboring unforgiveness. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019ll tell you something, moms\u2014those kids need your delight in them. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThey need a mom, who\u2019s got the joy of the Lord. If the joy of the Lord is our strength\u2014the joy of the <em>mother<\/em> is the strength of her family. It\u2019s very hard when you\u2019re harboring unforgiveness. They need your smile like a flower needs the sun. I want my kids to say: \u201cMy mom\u2014she was the most joyful woman I have ever known. Even on hard days\u2014even through tough things \/ even through tough times with Dad\u2014she was the most joyful woman I\u2019ve ever known.\u201d\u00a0 And I want that for you.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m out of time with you; but I\u2019d just encourage you, as your sister in Christ, to start\u2014if there is something in you that is bitter \/ that\u2019s holding on and shackled to some pain\u2014give it to Jesus\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>21:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014lay it at the foot of the cross. There is a part between you and God, and there\u2019s a part of living it out. It\u2019s a process, but it\u2019s a process that\u2014without knowing God, you can\u2019t know marriage. Without forgiveness, you\u2019re not going to finish\u2014the large and small forgivenesses\u2014you\u2019re not going to finish and understand the beautiful design of marriage that we all, together, can go out and move this Kingdom forward by displaying that covenant relationship of Christ and His church. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br>Thank you for your time. It\u2019s a whole different look for Kirk; isn\u2019t it?\u00a0 <br><br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>It really is. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>So, he and Chelsea joined us onboard the <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em> marriage cruise and spoke to our audience on Monday night and shared about some of the lessons they\u2019ve learned about marriage in the years that they\u2019ve been married, out in Hollywood. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And they shared this on the <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em> marriage cruise. This is the second time we\u2019ve been on a <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em> cruise. The first time\u2014I want to tell you this, starting really quickly\u2014the first time we came on the cruise, it was kind of a hard sell to Chelsea when I said, \u201cHoney, let\u2019s go on a cruise\u2014it\u2019s a marriage cruise,\u201d because our first experience on a cruise was terrible. It was like\u2014it was like the booze boat from hell [Laughter]\u2014and we didn\u2019t know it because it was a family cruise that we were invited to go on with the rest of the extended family. So, we kind of got roped into going because that was the cruise that they already booked. We went on this cruise\u2014and we get out there\u2014we end up signing up for this excursion called <em>The Jolly Roger<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience: <\/strong>Oh! [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kirk: <\/strong>And it turns out it was <em>The Jolly Roger Rum Boat<\/em>. We didn\u2019t know about the rum boat was. [Laughter]\u00a0 So, we get out there; and I\u2019m with my brother-in-law and sister-in-law and the whole nine yards. I mean, people had so much\u2014they had rum going so much\u2014and there were people swinging off ropes off the mast into the waters. I was just\u2014I was sure someone was going to drown. People were drunk\u2014it was crazy. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, what ended up happening is\u2014 one of the\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014this one lady asked if Chelsea and I would take a picture with her. There were all these drunk people on the boat\u2014and I\u2019m like, \u201cCould we wait until a little bit later?\u201d because, if we get stuck taking pictures with a bunch of drunk people on the boat, it\u2019s not going to be good; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, she went back and told her husband or boyfriend or whoever it was. He got upset that she didn\u2019t get her picture. So, he came and threw beer all over our backs, while we were on the boat. So, then, Chelsea tells her brother\u2014who\u2019s Type-A, alpha dog guy\u2014goes up to the dude and threatens his life. Then, they get into the steel drums; and they are dancing on the booze boat. And this guy goes up to my brother-in-law and just sucker punches him and gives him this big shiner. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd the whole story ends back up\u2014boarding back up on the boats, with Chelsea crying, my brother-in-law with this big black eye and a pair of aviator glasses with one of them broken out so he could see out of this one\u2014and this one was covered by the other one. His wife is in a bikini. I\u2019m over there, thinking to myself: \u201cOh my goodness! This is going to blow my witness. This is going to ruin my career if anyone takes a picture of this,\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014and my brother-in-law is demanding, \u201cSomebody get me the captain of this ship!\u201d\u00a0 I mean, I just wanted the rapture to happen, right there, and get me out of there!\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 Okay\u2014that\u2019s the End Times cruise\u2014okay; we\u2019ll get to that one another time. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe\u2019re going to talk about marriage tonight. Chelsea and I have been married for 24 years, and we\u2019re excited. We have six kids\u201418, 17, 16, 15, 14, and 12\u2014and so, pray for us. [Laughter]\u00a0 They\u2019re all here on the cruise with us, except for our 18-year-old; and they are having a great time somewhere, eating at the endless buffet right now. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd Chelsea and I have realized that marriage is very, very challenging\u2014especially if you come from two different cultures and two different family types. Chelsea and I think differently about things. She comes from New York \/ I\u2019m from Los Angeles. I remember when one scenario pointed out those differences very clearly. We were in my kitchen, newly-married. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI was talking to a buddy of mine, at the table; and Chelsea was washing some dishes at the sink. This was great\u2014everything was going great. I\u2019m talking with my buddy. Chelsea\u2019s over here, washing dishes at the sink; and I\u2019m thinking, \u201cMan, I\u2019ve got this perfect marriage\/\u201d\u2014right?\u2014\u201cmy perfect wife.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tShe starts putting dishes from the sink into the dishwasher, and she\u2019s cleaning some crystal. She moves like this, and all I hear is CRASH [crashing sound]!\u00a0 I look over. I jump up out of my seat, and I can see that she has hit one of the glasses on the cast iron side of the sink and shattered the whole thing. And it was expensive crystal\u2014this was the wedding crystal. I look up, thinking, \u201cI need to fix this situation.\u201d\u00a0 I say to my wife: \u201cHoney! You\u2019ve got to be more careful,\u201d thinking, \u201cThis surely will prevent this from happening again.\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, get this\u2014she actually\u2014no kidding\u2014she actually looked at me like she is just\u2014couldn\u2019t believe that I said that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tShe picks up another crystal glass, like this, and looks at me, like this, again\u2014holds it up and drops it right into the cast iron and smashes the whole thing again. I\u2019m thinking to myself, \u201c<em>What have I married<\/em>?!\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chelsea: <\/strong>Well, wait, wait! [Hilarious laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kirk: <\/strong>Yes; okay. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chelsea: <\/strong>Since I\u2019m\u2014okay, girls\u2014do we know there are two sides to this story?\u00a0 [Applause]\u00a0 I remember a <em>full-on scolding<\/em>\u2014scolding. I come from a place where, if you make a mistake\u2014my dad never scolded me for a mistake. So, I\u2019m thinking\u2014well, first, something came over my body. I don\u2019t even know what happened when I grabbed the other one\u2014[Laughter]\u2014but something just took over. I don\u2019t know\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014but I remember thinking: \u201cDid you just scold me for a mistake?\u00a0 <em>What did I marry<\/em>?!\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kirk: <\/strong>Okay, honey; alright. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Chelsea: <\/strong>By the way\u2014on that booze cruise\u2014I think, if Kirk was supporting <em>that look<\/em> then, they wouldn\u2019t have messed with him. [Laughter and applause]\u00a0 I\u2019m kind of starting to like it!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen we were on that cruise, I felt like we had a real thing. We were just married and so in love. But you know something?\u2014in 23 years, I\u2019ve learned that it\u2019s in the valley where you are challenged and you realize that marriage is probably one of the <em>main <\/em>journeys where God changes you, and sanctifies you, and teaches you what it means to really love. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen you are in that valley\u2014and you can get your eyes off him, and what you think he\u2019s doing, and you can say: \u201cWhat are You trying to change in me, God?\u00a0 What are You trying to teach <em>me<\/em>?\u201d\u2014and, if you can persevere and you can continue to love through those valleys, when you come out the other end together\u2014now, you really have a thing. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI want\u2014I thought about the limited amount of time I have with you; and I thought, \u201cOh, what do I want to share with you?\u201d\u00a0 I decided to share with you something that I think is the <em>most important<\/em> thing that the Lord has taught <em>me<\/em> about love and about what it takes to have a God-glorifying marriage and a blessed marriage. So, I\u2019m going to start with the Word of God because that\u2019s where the answers are to everything in life. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m going to read from Ephesians 4:25: \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tTherefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor for we are members of one another. Be angry and do not sin. Do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil. Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLet no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up as it fits the occasion that it may give grace to those who hear. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God by whom you were sealed for the day of Redemption. Let all bitterness and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another as God in Christ forgave you. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI want to focus on verse 32: \u201cBe kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another as God in Christ has forgiven you.\u201d\u00a0 I am not wondering, as I stand here, whether or not you\u2019ve ever been hurt in your marriage. I know how life works, and I know that the person sitting next to you has the center of your heart. When things are not right there, things are not right in life; and they have the ability to injure you in a way that nobody else does. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIn Proverbs, it says, \u201cA brother offended is more unyielding than a strong city, and quarreling is like the bars of a castle.\u201d\u00a0 Those walls come up and, \u201cYou said you wouldn\u2019t and you did,\u201d and, \u201cYou said you\u2019d always and you didn\u2019t.\u201d\u00a0 And the walls come up, and we get injured. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe start to treat the person in a certain way. We start to withhold our best from them because we are hurt, and we give our best to others but not him: \u201cYou owe me something!\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThese damaging emotions that God talks about, right here\u2014we start to feel them. \u201cLet all bitterness,\u201d\u2014and that overarching condition of an unforgiving heart\u2014\u201cwrath,\u201d \/ it\u2019s a flowing foaming, \u201cI\u2019m playing the tapes of what happened in my head,\u201d\u2014and then, there\u2019s \u201canger,\u201d \/ then, there\u2019s that outburst of that\u2014and there\u2019s \u201cclamor\u201d\u2014there\u2019s relational strife \/ there\u2019s the bickering and, then, there\u2019s \u201cslander\u201d\u2014and it is the evil intended-to-hurt words. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThese are all very, very damaging emotions. They happen in our marriages so easily\u2014out of the heart, the mouth speaks: \u201cYou hurt me, and you\u2019re never going to have that part of me again,\u201d\u2014it swallows up. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m telling you guys\u2014we have a very real marriage. There are times that you get injured\u2014and I am the kind of person who will retreat to the highest mountain. I mean, he\u2019s in good shape; but he\u2019s not going to be able to climb that mountain!\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 And God\u2014we felt the consequences of that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd then, I heard this message about what marriage really is\u2014which is not really about how I feel. It is to display the covenant union of Christ and His church\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014that patient and forgiving relationship\u2014to bring glory to God out in this world that needs to know Jesus and that covenant relationship He has. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I heard a message about forgiveness and the <em>process<\/em> of forgiveness. You know, I don\u2019t like to oversimplify things\u2014I\u2019m not downplaying anything that\u2019s happened\u2014but there\u2019s one way out of that dark place, where you are shackled to a pain that may have happened\u2014to a disappointment or an expectation that wasn\u2019t met\u2014and it\u2019s through the process of forgiveness. It starts between just you and God\u2014it\u2019s like: \u201cLord, You have forgiven me of <em>so much<\/em> in my life. I found forgiveness at the foot of Your cross. Lord, I\u2019m laying it down. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cI know I\u2019m never more like Jesus than when I\u2019m <em>forgiving<\/em>.\u201d\u00a0 Name it\u2014lay it down and say, \u201cLord, help me to show forth love.\u201d\u00a0 God says when you don\u2019t act on your feelings and you act on your obedience, He comes behind you with a new feeling. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThere\u2019s the process of the decision to forgive; and then, there is acting it out. So, when you start playing the tapes again, you don\u2019t go back to unforgiveness\u2014you go back to the cross: \u201cLord, I ask you, Jesus, take this from me. I lay it at the cross. I need a new day. I need a <em>fresh love<\/em>. Help me to love my husband the way that you love my husband. Help me to get my part right, Lord. I want to be a vessel of the Savior in this home.\u201d\u00a0 Through that process of not going back to the unforgiveness but going back to the cross\u2014right where you found forgiveness \/ where you find forgiveness\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014you can be released of that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI heard a story about Leonardo da Vinci, who painted <em>The Last Supper<\/em>, who had a very serious fight with his best friend before he painted that painting. He painted the likeness of Judas the face of his friend. Then, he went to paint the face of Christ; and he could not. He could not until he went back and changed the face of Judas. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI remember the pastor said: \u201cYou know something? If you want the beauty of Christ to flow through your life \/ in your story with your family and your marriage, you\u2019ve got to learn to forgive. With the help of Jesus and with the help of His Holy Spirit you can have that new day. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cThe beauty of Christ will be displayed to this world and to your families.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou know, I want to speak\u2014say this to the moms and the women here. We are not actresses, playing different roles\u2014we are one woman. When that root \/ that this vessel is bitter, it <em>cannot<\/em> produce sweet fruit. It shows up, and it spills out in other areas of our life\u2014many times in the way we parent because we are critical, and we\u2019re harsh, and we\u2019re\u2014we lose our smile and we lose our joy because we are harboring unforgiveness. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019ll tell you something, moms\u2014those kids need your delight in them. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThey need a mom, who\u2019s got the joy of the Lord. If the joy of the Lord is our strength\u2014the joy of the <em>mother<\/em> is the strength of her family. It\u2019s very hard when you\u2019re harboring unforgiveness. They need your smile like a flower needs the sun. I want my kids to say: \u201cMy mom\u2014she was the most joyful woman I have ever known. Even on hard days\u2014even through tough things \/ even through tough times with Dad\u2014she was the most joyful woman I\u2019ve ever known.\u201d\u00a0 And I want that for you.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m out of time with you; but I\u2019d just encourage you, as your sister in Christ, to start\u2014if there is something in you that is bitter \/ that\u2019s holding on and shackled to some pain\u2014give it to Jesus\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>21:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014lay it at the foot of the cross. There is a part between you and God, and there\u2019s a part of living it out. It\u2019s a process, but it\u2019s a process that\u2014without knowing God, you can\u2019t know marriage. Without forgiveness, you\u2019re not going to finish\u2014the large and small forgivenesses\u2014you\u2019re not going to finish and understand the beautiful design of marriage that we all, together, can go out and move this Kingdom forward by displaying that covenant relationship of Christ and His church. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br>Thank you for your time.
