Trillia Newbell says instead of a church pursuing diversity, a church needs to make sure it is an open and accepting community. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>And that\u2019s really the issue: \u201cWould someone be accepted?\u201d\u00a0 They may not feel <em>comfortable<\/em>, but would they be <em>accepted<\/em>?\u00a0 Would they be <em>loved<\/em>?\u00a0 Would they hear the good news?\u00a0 And if they chose to stay, then, how would they feel?\u00a0 What would they experience in terms of the love of the people\u2014the hearts of the people?\u00a0 That\u2019s what really matters. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>This is <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> for Friday, February 27<sup>th<\/sup>. Our host is the President of FamilyLife<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, Dennis Rainey, and I\u2019m Bob Lepine.\u00a0 We all think that the churches we attend are open and accepting; right?\u00a0 But the question is: \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>1:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cAre they open and accepting of people like us and not anybody else?\u201d\u00a0 We\u2019re going to discuss that today. Stay tuned. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd welcome to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>. Thanks for joining us on the Friday edition. We\u2019re tackling a subject today, Dennis, that\u2014it\u2019s challenging for all of us. In fact, I\u2019m really glad that a number of our friends have taken some steps to try to address the issue of racial tension and racial prejudice because of recent events in our culture. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tFolks like Bryan Loritts, who is a pastor in Memphis, put together a conference on this subject. Our friend, Russell Moore, is going to be addressing this with the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission\u2014a special event that they are hosting. I mean, we have seen that race relations and racial prejudice\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014may not be what it was when you and I were growing up\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Oh my goodness!\u2014absolutely. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014but we still have a long way to go on this issue. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I know it\u2019s one of the things that\u2014it really\u2014from time to time, when I really see it occurring, makes me sad. You hear about on the news of racial hatred\u2014one race against another. It\u2019s like, \u201cThere is a heaven, and it\u2019s not here; but there is a gospel, and it does call us to love all people.\u201d\u00a0 And we have a friend with us\u2014a new friend. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Bob was bragging on you, Trillia, about your giftedness and how you\u2019re a great spokesperson for Jesus Christ. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>That\u2019s encouraging. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I just want to welcome you to the broadcast. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Thank you. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Welcome back. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Thank you. Glad to be here. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>She and her husband have been married since 2003. They have two children, and she is a writer for numerous blogs, and newspapers, and ministries around the country. And she\u2019s written a book called <em>United: Captured by God\u2019s Vision for Diversity<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI asked you, before we came on the air, if you felt like there was an anchor passage for this issue of diversity; and I really liked your answer. I want our listeners to hear what you said. Where in the Scriptures do think it just, rock-solid, calls us?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Sure. I would say Matthew 28, where Jesus says to His disciples, \u201cGo and make disciples of all nations teaching them and baptizing them in the name of the Father\u2026\u201d\u00a0 And I think that that is where we can understand that the gospel is for all nations and that that\u2019s His great command\u2014is His Great Commission to His disciples. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And we\u2019ve got to train our children in the Great Commission, and that begins at home. That doesn\u2019t begin in going to another country. That starts, right here, with loving all people. I want to ask you: \u201cWhat\u2019s the biggest misconception the white community has about the African-American community?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>That\u2019s a great question. I don\u2019t know about misconception, but I could say that there are probably a lot of stereotypes. Unfortunately, I think we get a lot of our information from the television\u2014\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>\u2014bad place to go!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>So, we are <em>sports people<\/em>. So, we are all\u2014we can <em>all dance<\/em>. So, there are just a lot of misconceptions that I think that we get from the media and that\u2019s just\u2014aren\u2019t true. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Let me ask the question a different way: \u201cWhat would you want the white community to know, in terms of what they need to do, to do a better job at raising the next generation of followers of Christ to have a healthy approach toward diversity?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>I would say that we\u2014not just white people but <em>all<\/em> people\u2014need to, first, look to the Scriptures. Diversity isn\u2019t about just people\u2014it\u2019s about love. Diversity is about loving your neighbor as yourself. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, what does the Scripture say about people?\u00a0 We are made in the image of God. We are created equally. We are fallen equally. We need Jesus equally. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>So, that\u2019s where I would start. Then, from there, I would say, \u201cInvite people into our homes.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s the only real way that we\u2019re going to be able to build diversity in the church\u2014is to really start at our tables. Invite people\u2014who are not like you\u2014to your table \/ and that\u2019s all people. We need to be doing this. We need to be thinking, outwardly\u2014how to reach, in love, the lost, first of all, and those who are not like us. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Let me ask you about that because you\u2019ve heard the old expression that: \u201cThe most segregated hour in America is Sunday morning at 11 o\u2019clock,\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014that when we all go to our churches, we all segregate. Black people go to their black churches. White people go to their white churches. We don\u2019t worship together. We hear that and we think, \u201cOkay, so\u2026\u201d\u2014but what are we supposed to do?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHonestly, there\u2014I have black friends who\u2014they\u2019d come to our church and they\u2019d go, \u201cIt was fine, but it didn\u2019t really\u2014I wasn\u2019t inspired or moved the way I am at my church.\u201d\u00a0 And I go to their church, and I\u2019d go, \u201cIt was okay; but it was different, culturally, than I\u2019m used to.\u201d\u00a0 Are we supposed to just get over that and start worshipping together on Sunday morning or\u2014how\u2019s that supposed to work?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Sure. Well, there are a few things. I\u2019m really thankful that there are ministries that are starting out with the focus and the goal of bringing diversity, but you are not talking about church plants. You are talking about established churches. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Trillia: <\/strong>And that\u2019s really the issue: \u201cWould someone be accepted?\u00a0 They may not feel <em>comfortable<\/em>\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>There you go. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>\u2014but would they be <em>accepted<\/em>?\u00a0 Would they be <em>loved<\/em>?\u00a0 Would they hear the good news?\u201d\u00a0 And so, in terms of culture and things, I personally believe that the <em>ideal<\/em> church\u2014that looks like what we see in Revelation\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014all nations, tribes, tongues worshipping together will happen. \u201cLet\u2019s do it now!\u201d\u2014that\u2019s what I, personally, think would be just a delight. But the reality is\u2014it\u2019s not where we are. So, I think we can begin to build that way\u2014invite people to your church, invite people to your home, and share the good news and see what the Lord can do. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I\u2019ve got two points I want to make here. One is\u2014and it takes me back to a church service I went to in Harlem. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>That\u2019s fun. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Oh, it was\u2014[Laughter]\u2014one of the greatest privileges of my life. We did a <em>Weekend to Remember<\/em><em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup><\/em> type of conference in Harlem. It was in a former public school that the school system had allowed to become empty and gave to a church. They turned it into a lighthouse, and it was fantastic. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut here is what hit me, when I was there\u2014I was going: \u201cMan! Are our church services, by comparison, boring?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Sure. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Music, preaching, offering\u2014it didn\u2019t matter\u2014length of time. I really get it why an African-American person would come to a white church and he would go: \u201cMan, oh, man! They put me to sleep over there. Our church knows how to truly celebrate.\u201d\u00a0 And I talked to my friend, Crawford Loritts, about this. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And Crawford said: \u201cThere\u2019s a reason, Dennis. Back in the times of slavery, Sunday was the one time of the week when we got to celebrate\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Sure. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014\u201cand we got to truly worship God and celebrate who we were.\u201d\u00a0 And he said, \u201cFor you, it\u2019s not that cultural stake in the ground\u2014but for us and our heritage\u2014it was.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I think the average white person doesn\u2019t understand that at all. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>No, I think you are right, and that\u2019s important to remember. I think it\u2019s important for us not to forget our history. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think that\u2019s how we are going to understand and, again, love\u2014I keep speaking of it\u2014but I really think that\u2019s how we will love each other\u2014if we understand why someone feels or thinks a certain way. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And I look back on my life\u2014and my friendship with Crawford has probably done more to help me understand a cultural divide\/\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Sure. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014a racial divide between black and white that I wouldn\u2019t have understood had I not had a friend who was of a different ethnicity. I think that\u2019s where we have to start, and it\u2019s not going to occur instantly. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>I agree. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>It has to occur over a lifetime\u2014our friendship goes all the way back to the early 80s\u2014and basically, within the honesty of a friendship, where two people love each other, they can begin to coach one another in better understanding one another and our approach to the different races. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>As we are talking about racial diversity and racism, I\u2019m reminded of a message that I heard a decade ago\u2014and you may have heard this as well. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt was preached by the, then, pastor of the First Baptist Church in the Cayman Islands, Thabiti Anyabwile, who has now moved up to Washington, DC\u2014but I remember the message that he preached was all about the fact that, when we talk about racism, he said, \u201cWe need to keep in mind there is only one race\u201d\u2014right\u2014\u201cWe have a bunch of ethnicities\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Chosen race; is that it?\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>The human race!\u00a0 He said, \u201cThere is one race.\u201d\u00a0 And he said, \u201cWe have to recognize we are all human beings\u2014we are all of one race. We may have different ethnicities, but\u2026\u201d There was something fundamental in what he was saying there. We have to\u2014when we talk about different races, it\u2019s almost as if we are talking about different kinds of people. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong><em>Yes. <\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>We\u2019re not talking about different kinds of people\u2014we are all one kind of person; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Yes, I actually interviewed Thabiti. He\u2014we go through there, and we talk about this\u2014talk about: \u201cIs there even\u2014is race a thing?\u00a0 Does it even exist?\u201d\u00a0 And I love it!\u00a0 He\u2019s in the business, right now, to eradicate race. [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe wants to get <em>rid<\/em> of the term altogether, and I think it\u2019s going to take some time. I used the word, often, \u201cethnicity,\u201d because I agree with him; but I think it\u2019s going to take some time for us to get there. But if we did think that way, it would <em>transform<\/em> this conversation. It would transform the way that we related to one another. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>So, what would happen to the term African-American, for instance?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Well, right\u2014good question. African-American\u2014I think, a lot of people want to identify with Africa. So, they call themselves African-American. I, personally\u2014I was born in America\u2014I\u2019m American. So, I just call myself black because that\u2019s what I identify with; but that\u2019s why I think it would be good\u2014especially in the church\u2014if we could refer to each other, \u201cYou\u2019re my brother, and I\u2019m your sister.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And we\u2019re to have compassion for one another. I read a book, a number of years ago, by John Perkins. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tJohn wrote me and said he was a listener to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>\u2014loved our broadcast. I was tremendously honored that he would listen. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut in his book, he talks about some of the atrocities that were done to people of color. And I\u2019ve got to tell you, I wept\u2014I really wept. I mean, that human beings would treat other human beings in such inhumane ways; and it helped me to understand, \u201cEverybody has got a context.\u201d\u00a0 If you see somebody get ticked off about something that may seem insignificant to you, they\u2019ve got a context. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Absolutely. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You don\u2019t know\u2014it may have not been exactly what you said\u2014but just who they are, where they\u2019ve come from, their history\/their hurts\u2014as you referred to\u2014add to our sensitivity to one another. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Absolutely. And I think, as believers\/as Christians, as brothers and sisters in Christ, and just as human beings\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014if we can remember that, we can really love and <em>serve<\/em> one another in this conversation. So, we just need to understand that. We are <em>growing<\/em>, and this conversation helps it. It helps us to grow so that we can love each other and serve each other. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You had a point in your life where you prayed\u2014you asked God to help you become more diverse. God answered your prayer with a couple of new friends; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Yes\u2014God is so good!\u00a0 He gave me <em>friends<\/em>, and they\u2014in that friendship, they were diverse. So, I had a friendship\u2014and I continue to have this friendship\u2014with a Chinese girl named Lillian and Amy, my white girlfriend. We grew up together, if you want to call it that\u2014we were in our 20s\u2014but we were in each other\u2019s weddings, and we continue\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>I grew up in my 20s. Yes\u2014I\u2019m with you. [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Yes. Yes. And we just loved one another; but we met together, and we did accountability. We poured out our hearts to one another, and we prayed together. We loved each other. They were my sisters. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, that\u2019s how God answered my prayer. He gave me friendships. That\u2019s really what <em>United<\/em> is about. It\u2019s about building friendships\u2014inviting people into your life\u2014and watching how the Lord will transform your mind, and your thinking, and relationships that way. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I want you to comment on something that happened to me, but I\u2019ve got to set a bit of context\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Okay. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014for it. When Barbara and I first got married, I don\u2019t remember exactly when this dialogue started, but we started talking with one another how we both, individually, brought to our marriage a burden for African-American families. Back in the 70s and 80s, we saw the breakdown in the family in all segments of society; but for some reason, we just developed a burden to want to help the African-American community. That led me, ultimately, on one occasion, to decide to mentor an African-American young man. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI mentioned that on the radio, here, one time. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Yes; yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I got an email from a listener, who was offended that I would identify the young man that I was mentoring by identifying his race. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>This person thought you should just ignore it\u2014be color-blind?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Exactly. And just say: \u201cHe\u2019s a young man\u2014you\u2019re mentoring him.\u201d\u00a0 God knows my motives, at this point. My statement was not motivated by racism. My statement of identifying him was a desire to set a positive example\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Sure. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014because I think we could, perhaps, send some young men on a right course. Now, I wrote her back and very kindly said: \u201cYou know, I really appreciate you writing. I\u2019m glad you shared how that hurt you. I didn\u2019t want to hurt you. That was not my desire\u2014and God be my witness\u2014my desire was to try to be a positive example, at that point.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>But don\u2019t you think part of what she may have been reacting to is the idea that you were mentoring a young African-American man\u2014and so, the thought is you are the superior \/ he\u2019s the inferior\u2014he needs mentoring\u2014the white person needs to mentor the black person. You know, I\u2019m just sitting here thinking, \u201cCrawford Loritts has helped mentored me.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>He\u2019s mentored me as well. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes. So, it wasn\u2019t a statement, on your part, to say: \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>No. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014\u201cAs a white person, I can now mentor black people.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Never. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You were just saying, \u201cAs an older man, I can mentor a younger man.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes, and I look at it as a privilege. Now, I just want you to comment on it. What are your thoughts about this?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Yes. Well, I\u2019m really glad that Bob stepped in because I think that that is probably what she was thinking. I imagine she was thinking: \u201cWell, wait a minute!\u00a0 Are you trying to be the savior\u2014the white man savior\u2014of the black community?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Sure. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>And reacted, responded, and thought, \u201cDo you feel like you are the savior of the black community?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Or superior in some way. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Or superior\u2014yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>And here is where I do think we have to give one another the judgment of charity\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014the benefit of the doubt\u2014be gracious \/ assume the best about one another\u2019s motives. And honestly, one of the reasons we don\u2019t assume the best is because we\u2019ve met people, who don\u2019t have the best motives; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Absolutely. For her, she may not have known that you have been mentored by Crawford Loritts or that you just love people. And so, who knows what she was thinking, but you can be encouraged that you are mentoring\u2014and yes, I hope that more people will step up and mentor young people who may not have adult supervision or adult influence in their lives because it\u2019s Titus 2\u2014the older man mentoring the younger. So, we hope that happens. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes, and I want to be clear\u2014there is only one Savior. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes. There is only One who can redeem the world and truly save human kind. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut a second thing I\u2019d say is\u2014as these situations occur in our lives, where our motives are questioned and even when we did something or said something that wasn\u2019t motivated out of wanting to hurt somebody or out of any racism\u2014we need to hear what people have to say, listen carefully, ask the Lord what lesson we need to learn in the midst of that; but we need to be careful that that doesn\u2019t take away our courage\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014and discourage us from continuing to try to be a difference-maker. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Absolutely. I have had people say things to me\u2014that their desire was to help\u2014but they hurt because they said something that was racially-insensitive, which is most of the time what happens. It\u2019s not necessarily that it\u2019s completely <em>racist,<\/em> but it\u2019s insensitive. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThey are not thinking, \u201cOkay, how can this affect her?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI just recently had something that happened. Someone had just communicated to me that certain segments of the blogging world\u2014there is real lack of diversity, which would have been fine if it had ended there\u2014but it continued just basically with that and also told me, \u201cOh, and by the way, you are probably not going to be accepted.\u201d\u00a0 So, I was just really discouraged. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat I needed to hear was: \u201cHey, there is a segment of the population in the writing\/blogging world that needs to hear about racial diversity; and the gospel frees us to do that. Let\u2019s do it!\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>But instead, it\u2019s like what you heard was: \u201cDon\u2019t forget who you are. Don\u2019t forget that you\u2019re a black woman, and don\u2019t try to get\u2026\u201d\u2014I mean, there was almost a kind of \u201cDon\u2019t get too uppity, sister.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Well, no!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat it did, I think, is\u2014it highlighted that I was black. It made me feel different. It reminded me: \u201cOh, I am <em>different<\/em>. I am a <em>black writer<\/em>;\u201d instead of: \u201cNo, I have the gospel. I can share the gospel with anyone, and I have good news to share!\u201d\u00a0 It highlighted for me that I was, yet again\u2014like I felt in my white church\u2014different. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And what I want to remind our listeners is\u2014if you want to enter into and engage the discussion around diversity, it\u2019s risky. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>It is. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>It\u2019s <em>really<\/em> risky. And you know what?\u00a0 This is what I want you to hear\u2014the easiest thing to do is nothing. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Absolutely. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And that\u2019s what I think the devil of hell wants the Christian community to do\u2014\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014is to just pull in its head, like a turtle, and not try to mix it up and somehow introduce family members to people of other ethnicities\/other cultures and let them grow and have a better perspective of the Great Commission, which is how we started our broadcast. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>21:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe are called to present the gospel to all nations\/all peoples. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And I want to thank you, Trillia, for being on the broadcast and for your gift of writing. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Thank you. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Hey, I didn\u2019t notice you were a woman. Trillia Newbell says instead of a church pursuing diversity, a church needs to make sure it is an open and accepting community. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>And that\u2019s really the issue: \u201cWould someone be accepted?\u201d\u00a0 They may not feel <em>comfortable<\/em>, but would they be <em>accepted<\/em>?\u00a0 Would they be <em>loved<\/em>?\u00a0 Would they hear the good news?\u00a0 And if they chose to stay, then, how would they feel?\u00a0 What would they experience in terms of the love of the people\u2014the hearts of the people?\u00a0 That\u2019s what really matters. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>This is <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> for Friday, February 27<sup>th<\/sup>. Our host is the President of FamilyLife<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, Dennis Rainey, and I\u2019m Bob Lepine.\u00a0 We all think that the churches we attend are open and accepting; right?\u00a0 But the question is: \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>1:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cAre they open and accepting of people like us and not anybody else?\u201d\u00a0 We\u2019re going to discuss that today. Stay tuned. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd welcome to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>. Thanks for joining us on the Friday edition. We\u2019re tackling a subject today, Dennis, that\u2014it\u2019s challenging for all of us. In fact, I\u2019m really glad that a number of our friends have taken some steps to try to address the issue of racial tension and racial prejudice because of recent events in our culture. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tFolks like Bryan Loritts, who is a pastor in Memphis, put together a conference on this subject. Our friend, Russell Moore, is going to be addressing this with the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission\u2014a special event that they are hosting. I mean, we have seen that race relations and racial prejudice\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014may not be what it was when you and I were growing up\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Oh my goodness!\u2014absolutely. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014but we still have a long way to go on this issue. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I know it\u2019s one of the things that\u2014it really\u2014from time to time, when I really see it occurring, makes me sad. You hear about on the news of racial hatred\u2014one race against another. It\u2019s like, \u201cThere is a heaven, and it\u2019s not here; but there is a gospel, and it does call us to love all people.\u201d\u00a0 And we have a friend with us\u2014a new friend. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Bob was bragging on you, Trillia, about your giftedness and how you\u2019re a great spokesperson for Jesus Christ. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>That\u2019s encouraging. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I just want to welcome you to the broadcast. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Thank you. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Welcome back. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Thank you. Glad to be here. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>She and her husband have been married since 2003. They have two children, and she is a writer for numerous blogs, and newspapers, and ministries around the country. And she\u2019s written a book called <em>United: Captured by God\u2019s Vision for Diversity<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI asked you, before we came on the air, if you felt like there was an anchor passage for this issue of diversity; and I really liked your answer. I want our listeners to hear what you said. Where in the Scriptures do think it just, rock-solid, calls us?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Sure. I would say Matthew 28, where Jesus says to His disciples, \u201cGo and make disciples of all nations teaching them and baptizing them in the name of the Father\u2026\u201d\u00a0 And I think that that is where we can understand that the gospel is for all nations and that that\u2019s His great command\u2014is His Great Commission to His disciples. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And we\u2019ve got to train our children in the Great Commission, and that begins at home. That doesn\u2019t begin in going to another country. That starts, right here, with loving all people. I want to ask you: \u201cWhat\u2019s the biggest misconception the white community has about the African-American community?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>That\u2019s a great question. I don\u2019t know about misconception, but I could say that there are probably a lot of stereotypes. Unfortunately, I think we get a lot of our information from the television\u2014\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>\u2014bad place to go!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>So, we are <em>sports people<\/em>. So, we are all\u2014we can <em>all dance<\/em>. So, there are just a lot of misconceptions that I think that we get from the media and that\u2019s just\u2014aren\u2019t true. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Let me ask the question a different way: \u201cWhat would you want the white community to know, in terms of what they need to do, to do a better job at raising the next generation of followers of Christ to have a healthy approach toward diversity?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>I would say that we\u2014not just white people but <em>all<\/em> people\u2014need to, first, look to the Scriptures. Diversity isn\u2019t about just people\u2014it\u2019s about love. Diversity is about loving your neighbor as yourself. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, what does the Scripture say about people?\u00a0 We are made in the image of God. We are created equally. We are fallen equally. We need Jesus equally. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>So, that\u2019s where I would start. Then, from there, I would say, \u201cInvite people into our homes.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s the only real way that we\u2019re going to be able to build diversity in the church\u2014is to really start at our tables. Invite people\u2014who are not like you\u2014to your table \/ and that\u2019s all people. We need to be doing this. We need to be thinking, outwardly\u2014how to reach, in love, the lost, first of all, and those who are not like us. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Let me ask you about that because you\u2019ve heard the old expression that: \u201cThe most segregated hour in America is Sunday morning at 11 o\u2019clock,\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014that when we all go to our churches, we all segregate. Black people go to their black churches. White people go to their white churches. We don\u2019t worship together. We hear that and we think, \u201cOkay, so\u2026\u201d\u2014but what are we supposed to do?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHonestly, there\u2014I have black friends who\u2014they\u2019d come to our church and they\u2019d go, \u201cIt was fine, but it didn\u2019t really\u2014I wasn\u2019t inspired or moved the way I am at my church.\u201d\u00a0 And I go to their church, and I\u2019d go, \u201cIt was okay; but it was different, culturally, than I\u2019m used to.\u201d\u00a0 Are we supposed to just get over that and start worshipping together on Sunday morning or\u2014how\u2019s that supposed to work?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Sure. Well, there are a few things. I\u2019m really thankful that there are ministries that are starting out with the focus and the goal of bringing diversity, but you are not talking about church plants. You are talking about established churches. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Trillia: <\/strong>And that\u2019s really the issue: \u201cWould someone be accepted?\u00a0 They may not feel <em>comfortable<\/em>\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>There you go. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>\u2014but would they be <em>accepted<\/em>?\u00a0 Would they be <em>loved<\/em>?\u00a0 Would they hear the good news?\u201d\u00a0 And so, in terms of culture and things, I personally believe that the <em>ideal<\/em> church\u2014that looks like what we see in Revelation\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014all nations, tribes, tongues worshipping together will happen. \u201cLet\u2019s do it now!\u201d\u2014that\u2019s what I, personally, think would be just a delight. But the reality is\u2014it\u2019s not where we are. So, I think we can begin to build that way\u2014invite people to your church, invite people to your home, and share the good news and see what the Lord can do. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I\u2019ve got two points I want to make here. One is\u2014and it takes me back to a church service I went to in Harlem. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>That\u2019s fun. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Oh, it was\u2014[Laughter]\u2014one of the greatest privileges of my life. We did a <em>Weekend to Remember<\/em><em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup><\/em> type of conference in Harlem. It was in a former public school that the school system had allowed to become empty and gave to a church. They turned it into a lighthouse, and it was fantastic. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut here is what hit me, when I was there\u2014I was going: \u201cMan! Are our church services, by comparison, boring?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Sure. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Music, preaching, offering\u2014it didn\u2019t matter\u2014length of time. I really get it why an African-American person would come to a white church and he would go: \u201cMan, oh, man! They put me to sleep over there. Our church knows how to truly celebrate.\u201d\u00a0 And I talked to my friend, Crawford Loritts, about this. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And Crawford said: \u201cThere\u2019s a reason, Dennis. Back in the times of slavery, Sunday was the one time of the week when we got to celebrate\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Sure. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014\u201cand we got to truly worship God and celebrate who we were.\u201d\u00a0 And he said, \u201cFor you, it\u2019s not that cultural stake in the ground\u2014but for us and our heritage\u2014it was.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I think the average white person doesn\u2019t understand that at all. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>No, I think you are right, and that\u2019s important to remember. I think it\u2019s important for us not to forget our history. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think that\u2019s how we are going to understand and, again, love\u2014I keep speaking of it\u2014but I really think that\u2019s how we will love each other\u2014if we understand why someone feels or thinks a certain way. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And I look back on my life\u2014and my friendship with Crawford has probably done more to help me understand a cultural divide\/\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Sure. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014a racial divide between black and white that I wouldn\u2019t have understood had I not had a friend who was of a different ethnicity. I think that\u2019s where we have to start, and it\u2019s not going to occur instantly. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>I agree. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>It has to occur over a lifetime\u2014our friendship goes all the way back to the early 80s\u2014and basically, within the honesty of a friendship, where two people love each other, they can begin to coach one another in better understanding one another and our approach to the different races. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>As we are talking about racial diversity and racism, I\u2019m reminded of a message that I heard a decade ago\u2014and you may have heard this as well. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt was preached by the, then, pastor of the First Baptist Church in the Cayman Islands, Thabiti Anyabwile, who has now moved up to Washington, DC\u2014but I remember the message that he preached was all about the fact that, when we talk about racism, he said, \u201cWe need to keep in mind there is only one race\u201d\u2014right\u2014\u201cWe have a bunch of ethnicities\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Chosen race; is that it?\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>The human race!\u00a0 He said, \u201cThere is one race.\u201d\u00a0 And he said, \u201cWe have to recognize we are all human beings\u2014we are all of one race. We may have different ethnicities, but\u2026\u201d There was something fundamental in what he was saying there. We have to\u2014when we talk about different races, it\u2019s almost as if we are talking about different kinds of people. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong><em>Yes. <\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>We\u2019re not talking about different kinds of people\u2014we are all one kind of person; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Yes, I actually interviewed Thabiti. He\u2014we go through there, and we talk about this\u2014talk about: \u201cIs there even\u2014is race a thing?\u00a0 Does it even exist?\u201d\u00a0 And I love it!\u00a0 He\u2019s in the business, right now, to eradicate race. [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe wants to get <em>rid<\/em> of the term altogether, and I think it\u2019s going to take some time. I used the word, often, \u201cethnicity,\u201d because I agree with him; but I think it\u2019s going to take some time for us to get there. But if we did think that way, it would <em>transform<\/em> this conversation. It would transform the way that we related to one another. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>So, what would happen to the term African-American, for instance?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Well, right\u2014good question. African-American\u2014I think, a lot of people want to identify with Africa. So, they call themselves African-American. I, personally\u2014I was born in America\u2014I\u2019m American. So, I just call myself black because that\u2019s what I identify with; but that\u2019s why I think it would be good\u2014especially in the church\u2014if we could refer to each other, \u201cYou\u2019re my brother, and I\u2019m your sister.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And we\u2019re to have compassion for one another. I read a book, a number of years ago, by John Perkins. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tJohn wrote me and said he was a listener to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>\u2014loved our broadcast. I was tremendously honored that he would listen. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut in his book, he talks about some of the atrocities that were done to people of color. And I\u2019ve got to tell you, I wept\u2014I really wept. I mean, that human beings would treat other human beings in such inhumane ways; and it helped me to understand, \u201cEverybody has got a context.\u201d\u00a0 If you see somebody get ticked off about something that may seem insignificant to you, they\u2019ve got a context. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Absolutely. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You don\u2019t know\u2014it may have not been exactly what you said\u2014but just who they are, where they\u2019ve come from, their history\/their hurts\u2014as you referred to\u2014add to our sensitivity to one another. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Absolutely. And I think, as believers\/as Christians, as brothers and sisters in Christ, and just as human beings\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014if we can remember that, we can really love and <em>serve<\/em> one another in this conversation. So, we just need to understand that. We are <em>growing<\/em>, and this conversation helps it. It helps us to grow so that we can love each other and serve each other. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You had a point in your life where you prayed\u2014you asked God to help you become more diverse. God answered your prayer with a couple of new friends; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Yes\u2014God is so good!\u00a0 He gave me <em>friends<\/em>, and they\u2014in that friendship, they were diverse. So, I had a friendship\u2014and I continue to have this friendship\u2014with a Chinese girl named Lillian and Amy, my white girlfriend. We grew up together, if you want to call it that\u2014we were in our 20s\u2014but we were in each other\u2019s weddings, and we continue\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>I grew up in my 20s. Yes\u2014I\u2019m with you. [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Yes. Yes. And we just loved one another; but we met together, and we did accountability. We poured out our hearts to one another, and we prayed together. We loved each other. They were my sisters. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, that\u2019s how God answered my prayer. He gave me friendships. That\u2019s really what <em>United<\/em> is about. It\u2019s about building friendships\u2014inviting people into your life\u2014and watching how the Lord will transform your mind, and your thinking, and relationships that way. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I want you to comment on something that happened to me, but I\u2019ve got to set a bit of context\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Okay. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014for it. When Barbara and I first got married, I don\u2019t remember exactly when this dialogue started, but we started talking with one another how we both, individually, brought to our marriage a burden for African-American families. Back in the 70s and 80s, we saw the breakdown in the family in all segments of society; but for some reason, we just developed a burden to want to help the African-American community. That led me, ultimately, on one occasion, to decide to mentor an African-American young man. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI mentioned that on the radio, here, one time. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Yes; yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I got an email from a listener, who was offended that I would identify the young man that I was mentoring by identifying his race. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>This person thought you should just ignore it\u2014be color-blind?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Exactly. And just say: \u201cHe\u2019s a young man\u2014you\u2019re mentoring him.\u201d\u00a0 God knows my motives, at this point. My statement was not motivated by racism. My statement of identifying him was a desire to set a positive example\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Sure. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014because I think we could, perhaps, send some young men on a right course. Now, I wrote her back and very kindly said: \u201cYou know, I really appreciate you writing. I\u2019m glad you shared how that hurt you. I didn\u2019t want to hurt you. That was not my desire\u2014and God be my witness\u2014my desire was to try to be a positive example, at that point.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>But don\u2019t you think part of what she may have been reacting to is the idea that you were mentoring a young African-American man\u2014and so, the thought is you are the superior \/ he\u2019s the inferior\u2014he needs mentoring\u2014the white person needs to mentor the black person. You know, I\u2019m just sitting here thinking, \u201cCrawford Loritts has helped mentored me.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>He\u2019s mentored me as well. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes. So, it wasn\u2019t a statement, on your part, to say: \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>No. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014\u201cAs a white person, I can now mentor black people.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Never. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You were just saying, \u201cAs an older man, I can mentor a younger man.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes, and I look at it as a privilege. Now, I just want you to comment on it. What are your thoughts about this?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Yes. Well, I\u2019m really glad that Bob stepped in because I think that that is probably what she was thinking. I imagine she was thinking: \u201cWell, wait a minute!\u00a0 Are you trying to be the savior\u2014the white man savior\u2014of the black community?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Sure. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>And reacted, responded, and thought, \u201cDo you feel like you are the savior of the black community?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Or superior in some way. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Or superior\u2014yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>And here is where I do think we have to give one another the judgment of charity\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014the benefit of the doubt\u2014be gracious \/ assume the best about one another\u2019s motives. And honestly, one of the reasons we don\u2019t assume the best is because we\u2019ve met people, who don\u2019t have the best motives; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Absolutely. For her, she may not have known that you have been mentored by Crawford Loritts or that you just love people. And so, who knows what she was thinking, but you can be encouraged that you are mentoring\u2014and yes, I hope that more people will step up and mentor young people who may not have adult supervision or adult influence in their lives because it\u2019s Titus 2\u2014the older man mentoring the younger. So, we hope that happens. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes, and I want to be clear\u2014there is only one Savior. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes. There is only One who can redeem the world and truly save human kind. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut a second thing I\u2019d say is\u2014as these situations occur in our lives, where our motives are questioned and even when we did something or said something that wasn\u2019t motivated out of wanting to hurt somebody or out of any racism\u2014we need to hear what people have to say, listen carefully, ask the Lord what lesson we need to learn in the midst of that; but we need to be careful that that doesn\u2019t take away our courage\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014and discourage us from continuing to try to be a difference-maker. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Absolutely. I have had people say things to me\u2014that their desire was to help\u2014but they hurt because they said something that was racially-insensitive, which is most of the time what happens. It\u2019s not necessarily that it\u2019s completely <em>racist,<\/em> but it\u2019s insensitive. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThey are not thinking, \u201cOkay, how can this affect her?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI just recently had something that happened. Someone had just communicated to me that certain segments of the blogging world\u2014there is real lack of diversity, which would have been fine if it had ended there\u2014but it continued just basically with that and also told me, \u201cOh, and by the way, you are probably not going to be accepted.\u201d\u00a0 So, I was just really discouraged. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat I needed to hear was: \u201cHey, there is a segment of the population in the writing\/blogging world that needs to hear about racial diversity; and the gospel frees us to do that. Let\u2019s do it!\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>But instead, it\u2019s like what you heard was: \u201cDon\u2019t forget who you are. Don\u2019t forget that you\u2019re a black woman, and don\u2019t try to get\u2026\u201d\u2014I mean, there was almost a kind of \u201cDon\u2019t get too uppity, sister.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Well, no!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat it did, I think, is\u2014it highlighted that I was black. It made me feel different. It reminded me: \u201cOh, I am <em>different<\/em>. I am a <em>black writer<\/em>;\u201d instead of: \u201cNo, I have the gospel. I can share the gospel with anyone, and I have good news to share!\u201d\u00a0 It highlighted for me that I was, yet again\u2014like I felt in my white church\u2014different. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And what I want to remind our listeners is\u2014if you want to enter into and engage the discussion around diversity, it\u2019s risky. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>It is. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>It\u2019s <em>really<\/em> risky. And you know what?\u00a0 This is what I want you to hear\u2014the easiest thing to do is nothing. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Absolutely. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And that\u2019s what I think the devil of hell wants the Christian community to do\u2014\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014is to just pull in its head, like a turtle, and not try to mix it up and somehow introduce family members to people of other ethnicities\/other cultures and let them grow and have a better perspective of the Great Commission, which is how we started our broadcast. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>21:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe are called to present the gospel to all nations\/all peoples. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And I want to thank you, Trillia, for being on the broadcast and for your gift of writing. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trillia: <\/strong>Thank you. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Hey, I didn\u2019t notice you were a woman.
