Thanks for joining us on the Wednesday edition. There is a reason why our focus is where it is this week; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>There is. In fact, Philippians, Chapter 2, talks about God highly exalting Him and bestowed on Him the name that is above every name so that, at the name of Jesus, every knee should bow in heaven and on earth, and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God, the Father. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Well, in the name of Jesus and Christmas\u2014that\u2019s something that\u2019s been on your wife\u2019s heart for many years. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I have never seen Barbara more excited than this Christmas, Bob. She has created, as our listeners know, a number of Adorenaments<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> that proclaim the name of Christ. The first year was the Christmas names from Luke and Isaiah. Last year was His royal names\u2014the Adorenaments were in the shape of a crown. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThis year, they\u2019re all crosses\u2014and they are all the Savior names of Christ\u2014and they are magnificent. They are the most beautiful of all that she\u2019s created. We now have 21 total\u2014all three years that she\u2019s created them. So, there are going to be a lot of Christmas trees that proclaim the One who made Christmas famous. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Well, and we\u2019ll let you know more about what Barbara has been working on before we wrap up things today; but you wanted to talk about the fact that this is December, and that\u2019s a significant time of year for us. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>It is. In fact, your wife had an opportunity to sit down with author and radio host, Nancy Leigh DeMoss, and talk about why this issue is so significant to her. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nancy: <\/strong>You just consider holidays a very special thing. I love that because holidays in Scripture were originally intended to be holy days. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nancy: <\/strong>These were annual times of celebrating\u2014whether it was the Passover, or the in-gathering of the harvest, or different moments and days in the calendar and the rhythm of the people of God\u2014and they would stop. Some days\u2014they were fast days. Some days\u2014they were feast days. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut they would stop and recount what God had done and remember,\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nancy: <\/strong>\u2014and focus, and put aside their ordinary work. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>And I love that God did that for us\u2014that He instituted\u2014for His people \/ for the nation of Israel, before Christ came\u2014all of these feasts and all of these celebrations. It just reminds me that God knows how prone we are to wander and that we need those moments in the calendar year\u2014year, after year, after year\u2014where we can pull away from our daily activity. We can stop, and we can rest, and we can focus on Him, and we can be reminded of who He is and what He has done for us. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tMost of us don\u2019t celebrate the Jewish feasts and the Jewish calendar; but, in our lives, we celebrate Christmas, and Easter, and Thanksgiving. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think it\u2019s a prime opportunity for moms and dads to impart spiritual truth to their kids because, as you said, these holidays are all rooted in biblical truth and biblical history. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe reason we celebrate Christmas is because of the incarnation of Christ. It\u2019s not because of Santa Claus\u2014it\u2019s not because of all of these other things. And so, in my empty nest years, I\u2019ve started creating ornaments that can go on your Christmas tree that are the names of Christ so that, hopefully, one day\u2014my dream is that, in Christian homes, all over the country and, I pray, all around the world\u2014people who put up Christmas trees\u2014their trees will proclaim who Christ is and why we celebrate Christmas. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Nancy: <\/strong>And I love having in my home, year round, things on the walls\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>I do, too, Nancy.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Nancy: <\/strong>\u2014and in terms of d\u00e9cor that point my own heart and guests, who come into my home\u2014that point them to Christ\/to Scripture. I just think there is something very encouraging\u2014there is exhortation\u2014\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>I agree. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nancy: <\/strong>\u2014there\u2019s focus on Christ. We\u2019re supposed to <em>consider<\/em> Christ\u2014we are supposed to fix our eyes on Christ. To be able to walk into a home and see\u2014on the walls, and on the shelves, and on the countertops\u2014to see reminders of Scripture and who Christ is\u2014it\u2019s a way of keeping Christ central and God\u2019s Word central in our hearts. Just explain, again, the significance of that name, Adorenaments. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Well, when we think about Christmas, one of the phrases on one of the carols that we all sing every year\u2014that\u2019s one of our favorites\u2014it says, \u201cOh, come let us adore Him.\u201d\u00a0 And the purpose of Christmas and celebrating it is that we would adore Him\u2014that we would adore Christ, the newborn King. Yet, the way we celebrate Christmas, practically\u2014there is very little that helps us focus on adoring Him. So, we\u2019ve created these ornaments\u2014and we\u2019ve called the ornaments, \u201cAdore-naments,\u201d because they are ornaments that should lead us to adore Him. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nancy: <\/strong>I\u2019m thinking about Luke, Chapter 2\u2014early in the Christmas story, when Jesus had just been born and the shepherds had come to see him\u2014they had come to worship Him. Then, it says\u2014and you are familiar with this verse\u2014but Luke 2:19, \u201cMary treasured up all of these things, pondering them in her heart.\u201d\u00a0 I think one of the things we don\u2019t do a lot of in the holiday season is to treasure the things that we\u2019ve seen and heard\u2014the things we know about Christ\u2014and to ponder them in our heart. And to do that, as a family\u2014there is a busy time of the year\u2014I mean, for a lot of families, every time of the year is busy. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nancy: <\/strong>But if there is a busiest or busier time of the year, I think it\u2019s around the holidays. There are so many things that seem to get added into the schedule. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nancy: <\/strong>And I hear families\u2014and people without families\u2014singles\/empty-nesters\u2014kind of pulling their hair out, \u201cHow can we not have so much chaos and craziness at this season?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThese Adorenaments, with the materials that go with them, are, I think, one way of stopping\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nancy: <\/strong>\u2014and <em>pondering<\/em> the wonder of His name\u2014and stopping and <em>adoring<\/em> Christ for who He is. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Well, we\u2019ve been listening to a conversation that took place, not long ago, between Nancy Leigh DeMoss and your wife, Barbara Rainey, about the Christmas holiday\u2014and why it is so special for Barbara and why she has invested so much time in creating these ornaments that many of our listeners have already seen. In fact, it was the angel who said, \u201cYou shall call His name Emmanuel,\u201d which means \u201cGod with us.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tDennis, you and I had an opportunity, a while back, to sit down with our friend, Crawford Loritts, and talk about the meaning of Emmanuel\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014the fact that our high and holy God has come near. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Crawford, it was before His birth that His parents were instructed that they should call Him, Jesus\u2014the name meaning Savior\u2014that He would save the people from their sins. But long before that, the Prophet Isaiah announced a name for Christ\u2014for the coming Messiah\u2014that He would be Emmanuel\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Crawford: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014which means \u201cGod with us\u201d; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Crawford: <\/strong>Absolutely. That\u2019s Isaiah 7:14. And Matthew underscored that in Matthew, Chapter 1, verse 23, that He is, indeed, Emmanuel\u2014God, Himself, with us. It wasn\u2019t just a baby that did some noble things with His life\u2014it was <em>God<\/em> in flesh\u2014Emmanuel, \u201cGod with us.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou know, that prepositional phrase, \u201cwith us,\u201d is just pregnant with meaning. You just think that\u2014when we have Jesus Christ, then we have all that God <em>is<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe are never alone\u2014we are never\u2014not only are we not alone, but we are never without resources. We have all the resources of heaven with us when we have Jesus Christ. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You know, the Apostle John, writing about the Word\u2014Jesus\u2014becoming flesh in John, Chapter 1. He says, \u201cThe Word became flesh and dwelt among us.\u201d\u00a0 And that phrase, in the original language, means \u201cto pitch a tent\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Crawford: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014\u201cto come and pitch His tent with yours.\u201d I\u2019ve often thought: \u201cHow would life be different for any of us if we were aware, on a conscience level, moment by moment, that the Lord\u2019s tent is pitched right there with ours?\u2014that, when we walk anywhere, He is walking with us\u2014How would our lives be different? How would our circumstances be different? Would we have the fear that we experience, knowing that the Lord of the universe is right here with us?\u00a0 Why would we need to be afraid?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You know, one of the things that Jesus promised, as He left the earth physically\u2014is He promised He would send the Comforter, the Holy Spirit. So, not only is God, the Father, near us and with us \/ not only is Jesus Christ praying for us and close to us, but He gave us\u2014those who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ as Lord, Master, Savior, and Redeemer\u2014He gave to those the promise of the Holy Spirit who would come and dwell\u2014think about this\u2014dwell <em>in us<\/em>. So, He is with us in His <em>total person. <\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Crawford: <\/strong>Yes. That\u2019s what drove Paul to that great crescendo in the last paragraph of Romans, Chapter 8\u2014you know, he breaks out\u2014it\u2019s almost as if he is shouting when he says: \u201cWho shall separate us from the love of Christ?\u00a0 Should tribulation or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or peril or sword?\u201d\u00a0 And he goes on to list a number of these things. All of this based upon the realization that God, through Christ, is with us. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThere is nothing to be afraid of. There is ultimately nothing this world can do to us, but He is with us. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>That, of course, is our friend, Crawford Loritts\u2014a conversation we had with him, a while back, about the fact that Christmas is the celebration of the incarnation\u2014God coming near\u2014Emmanuel. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd we also had a conversation with our friend, Kay Arthur. We were talking about different names of Jesus. One of the ones that she highlighted for us is a name that isn\u2019t typically one of the names of Jesus that comes immediately to mind; but it\u2019s from John\u2019s Gospel, where Jesus says of Himself that He is the Door. Here is what Kay Arthur had to say about that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kay: <\/strong>This is so exciting because, many times when we go to Israel, there is a place there, where it\u2019s like a place which is a biblical garden. You can take the people through and you can see a sheepfold. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, they have a sheepfold right there. Well, there is one door that goes into the sheepfold. He talks about in John, Chapter 10\u2014He says, \u201cI am the Door, and nobody enters in but by Me.\u201d\u00a0 But the thief has to climb up and jump in because the thief comes to steal, and kill, and destroy. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut He says, \u201cWhen He comes, He calls His sheep; and He calls His sheep by name,\u201d\u2014which is exciting to me because the One, who is Emmanuel\/God with us, also knows us by name. And when He calls us by name, the sheep recognize His voice\u2014and they follow Him, and they will not follow another. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, the shepherd would come through the door into the sheepfold. You would have maybe ten shepherds\u2019 sheep in there. He would say, for instance, \u201cHere sheepie, sheepie, sheepie, sheepie.\u201d [Laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAll the sheep that belonged to that particular shepherd would perk up their little ears and just follow him out. The other sheep would just stand around, knowing that wasn\u2019t their shepherd. But also, then, he would be able to say, \u201cHey, Curly,\u201d\u2014or \u201cWooly,\u201d or whatever you called your sheep\u2014and he knew them by name\u2014but they knew his voice. And He\u2019s the Door. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br>Then, you have the Lamb of God in John 1:29. It says, \u201cThis is the Lamb of God.\u201d\u00a0 John the Baptist was saying, \u201cThis is the Lamb of God that takes away\u201d\u2014the what?\u2014\u201cthe sins of the world.\u201d So, every Christmas, what we do is\u2014the grandchildren and I get together before Christmas Eve. We write and do a play for the family. So, we always have a Christmas play. We have come up with some of the most <em>tremendously <\/em>creative plays. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne day, they are walking in, with a pillowcase stuffed. They are saying: \u201cOh, this burden on my back. Oh, if I could just get rid of this burden on my back,\u201d\u2014which is their sins; you know?\u00a0 Then, we present Jesus in John 1:29 as the Lamb of God. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You know, I wish we could get Kay to videotape the play this year and post it online. That\u2019d be kind of fun; wouldn\u2019t it?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>It would be. You know, what she\u2019s talking about though, Bob, is building traditions that celebrate the Savior here at Christmas. And there are so many things that can take us off message. It\u2019s really why I\u2019m glad we are featuring the names of Christ, here in this broadcast today, just to remind folks, \u201cHe has a lot of different names, and those names need to be celebrated.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s cool that Barbara has created a resource for our listeners to help them do that in a very practical biblical way. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s got a book included, along with seven ornaments, to celebrate the Savior names of Christ. Thanks for joining us on the Wednesday edition. There is a reason why our focus is where it is this week; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>There is. In fact, Philippians, Chapter 2, talks about God highly exalting Him and bestowed on Him the name that is above every name so that, at the name of Jesus, every knee should bow in heaven and on earth, and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God, the Father. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Well, in the name of Jesus and Christmas\u2014that\u2019s something that\u2019s been on your wife\u2019s heart for many years. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I have never seen Barbara more excited than this Christmas, Bob. She has created, as our listeners know, a number of Adorenaments<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> that proclaim the name of Christ. The first year was the Christmas names from Luke and Isaiah. Last year was His royal names\u2014the Adorenaments were in the shape of a crown. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThis year, they\u2019re all crosses\u2014and they are all the Savior names of Christ\u2014and they are magnificent. They are the most beautiful of all that she\u2019s created. We now have 21 total\u2014all three years that she\u2019s created them. So, there are going to be a lot of Christmas trees that proclaim the One who made Christmas famous. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Well, and we\u2019ll let you know more about what Barbara has been working on before we wrap up things today; but you wanted to talk about the fact that this is December, and that\u2019s a significant time of year for us. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>It is. In fact, your wife had an opportunity to sit down with author and radio host, Nancy Leigh DeMoss, and talk about why this issue is so significant to her. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nancy: <\/strong>You just consider holidays a very special thing. I love that because holidays in Scripture were originally intended to be holy days. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nancy: <\/strong>These were annual times of celebrating\u2014whether it was the Passover, or the in-gathering of the harvest, or different moments and days in the calendar and the rhythm of the people of God\u2014and they would stop. Some days\u2014they were fast days. Some days\u2014they were feast days. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut they would stop and recount what God had done and remember,\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nancy: <\/strong>\u2014and focus, and put aside their ordinary work. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>And I love that God did that for us\u2014that He instituted\u2014for His people \/ for the nation of Israel, before Christ came\u2014all of these feasts and all of these celebrations. It just reminds me that God knows how prone we are to wander and that we need those moments in the calendar year\u2014year, after year, after year\u2014where we can pull away from our daily activity. We can stop, and we can rest, and we can focus on Him, and we can be reminded of who He is and what He has done for us. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tMost of us don\u2019t celebrate the Jewish feasts and the Jewish calendar; but, in our lives, we celebrate Christmas, and Easter, and Thanksgiving. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think it\u2019s a prime opportunity for moms and dads to impart spiritual truth to their kids because, as you said, these holidays are all rooted in biblical truth and biblical history. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe reason we celebrate Christmas is because of the incarnation of Christ. It\u2019s not because of Santa Claus\u2014it\u2019s not because of all of these other things. And so, in my empty nest years, I\u2019ve started creating ornaments that can go on your Christmas tree that are the names of Christ so that, hopefully, one day\u2014my dream is that, in Christian homes, all over the country and, I pray, all around the world\u2014people who put up Christmas trees\u2014their trees will proclaim who Christ is and why we celebrate Christmas. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Nancy: <\/strong>And I love having in my home, year round, things on the walls\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>I do, too, Nancy.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Nancy: <\/strong>\u2014and in terms of d\u00e9cor that point my own heart and guests, who come into my home\u2014that point them to Christ\/to Scripture. I just think there is something very encouraging\u2014there is exhortation\u2014\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>I agree. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nancy: <\/strong>\u2014there\u2019s focus on Christ. We\u2019re supposed to <em>consider<\/em> Christ\u2014we are supposed to fix our eyes on Christ. To be able to walk into a home and see\u2014on the walls, and on the shelves, and on the countertops\u2014to see reminders of Scripture and who Christ is\u2014it\u2019s a way of keeping Christ central and God\u2019s Word central in our hearts. Just explain, again, the significance of that name, Adorenaments. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Well, when we think about Christmas, one of the phrases on one of the carols that we all sing every year\u2014that\u2019s one of our favorites\u2014it says, \u201cOh, come let us adore Him.\u201d\u00a0 And the purpose of Christmas and celebrating it is that we would adore Him\u2014that we would adore Christ, the newborn King. Yet, the way we celebrate Christmas, practically\u2014there is very little that helps us focus on adoring Him. So, we\u2019ve created these ornaments\u2014and we\u2019ve called the ornaments, \u201cAdore-naments,\u201d because they are ornaments that should lead us to adore Him. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nancy: <\/strong>I\u2019m thinking about Luke, Chapter 2\u2014early in the Christmas story, when Jesus had just been born and the shepherds had come to see him\u2014they had come to worship Him. Then, it says\u2014and you are familiar with this verse\u2014but Luke 2:19, \u201cMary treasured up all of these things, pondering them in her heart.\u201d\u00a0 I think one of the things we don\u2019t do a lot of in the holiday season is to treasure the things that we\u2019ve seen and heard\u2014the things we know about Christ\u2014and to ponder them in our heart. And to do that, as a family\u2014there is a busy time of the year\u2014I mean, for a lot of families, every time of the year is busy. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nancy: <\/strong>But if there is a busiest or busier time of the year, I think it\u2019s around the holidays. There are so many things that seem to get added into the schedule. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nancy: <\/strong>And I hear families\u2014and people without families\u2014singles\/empty-nesters\u2014kind of pulling their hair out, \u201cHow can we not have so much chaos and craziness at this season?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThese Adorenaments, with the materials that go with them, are, I think, one way of stopping\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nancy: <\/strong>\u2014and <em>pondering<\/em> the wonder of His name\u2014and stopping and <em>adoring<\/em> Christ for who He is. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Well, we\u2019ve been listening to a conversation that took place, not long ago, between Nancy Leigh DeMoss and your wife, Barbara Rainey, about the Christmas holiday\u2014and why it is so special for Barbara and why she has invested so much time in creating these ornaments that many of our listeners have already seen. In fact, a lot of them have used them in years\u2019 past on their Christmas tree. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>I don\u2019t know if they\u2019ve seen the new ones for this year\u2014the Adorenaments that are all in the shape of a cross. These are the Savior names of Jesus. He is high, and holy, and transcendent, and lifted up, and He is far above us\u2014but at the same time\u2014He is a God who chose to come near us, and to dwell among us, and dwell with us. In fact, it was the angel who said, \u201cYou shall call His name Emmanuel,\u201d which means \u201cGod with us.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tDennis, you and I had an opportunity, a while back, to sit down with our friend, Crawford Loritts, and talk about the meaning of Emmanuel\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014the fact that our high and holy God has come near. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Crawford, it was before His birth that His parents were instructed that they should call Him, Jesus\u2014the name meaning Savior\u2014that He would save the people from their sins. But long before that, the Prophet Isaiah announced a name for Christ\u2014for the coming Messiah\u2014that He would be Emmanuel\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Crawford: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014which means \u201cGod with us\u201d; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Crawford: <\/strong>Absolutely. That\u2019s Isaiah 7:14. And Matthew underscored that in Matthew, Chapter 1, verse 23, that He is, indeed, Emmanuel\u2014God, Himself, with us. It wasn\u2019t just a baby that did some noble things with His life\u2014it was <em>God<\/em> in flesh\u2014Emmanuel, \u201cGod with us.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou know, that prepositional phrase, \u201cwith us,\u201d is just pregnant with meaning. You just think that\u2014when we have Jesus Christ, then we have all that God <em>is<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe are never alone\u2014we are never\u2014not only are we not alone, but we are never without resources. We have all the resources of heaven with us when we have Jesus Christ. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You know, the Apostle John, writing about the Word\u2014Jesus\u2014becoming flesh in John, Chapter 1. He says, \u201cThe Word became flesh and dwelt among us.\u201d\u00a0 And that phrase, in the original language, means \u201cto pitch a tent\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Crawford: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014\u201cto come and pitch His tent with yours.\u201d I\u2019ve often thought: \u201cHow would life be different for any of us if we were aware, on a conscience level, moment by moment, that the Lord\u2019s tent is pitched right there with ours?\u2014that, when we walk anywhere, He is walking with us\u2014How would our lives be different? How would our circumstances be different? Would we have the fear that we experience, knowing that the Lord of the universe is right here with us?\u00a0 Why would we need to be afraid?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You know, one of the things that Jesus promised, as He left the earth physically\u2014is He promised He would send the Comforter, the Holy Spirit. So, not only is God, the Father, near us and with us \/ not only is Jesus Christ praying for us and close to us, but He gave us\u2014those who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ as Lord, Master, Savior, and Redeemer\u2014He gave to those the promise of the Holy Spirit who would come and dwell\u2014think about this\u2014dwell <em>in us<\/em>. So, He is with us in His <em>total person. <\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Crawford: <\/strong>Yes. That\u2019s what drove Paul to that great crescendo in the last paragraph of Romans, Chapter 8\u2014you know, he breaks out\u2014it\u2019s almost as if he is shouting when he says: \u201cWho shall separate us from the love of Christ?\u00a0 Should tribulation or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or peril or sword?\u201d\u00a0 And he goes on to list a number of these things. All of this based upon the realization that God, through Christ, is with us. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThere is nothing to be afraid of. There is ultimately nothing this world can do to us, but He is with us. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>That, of course, is our friend, Crawford Loritts\u2014a conversation we had with him, a while back, about the fact that Christmas is the celebration of the incarnation\u2014God coming near\u2014Emmanuel. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd we also had a conversation with our friend, Kay Arthur. We were talking about different names of Jesus. One of the ones that she highlighted for us is a name that isn\u2019t typically one of the names of Jesus that comes immediately to mind; but it\u2019s from John\u2019s Gospel, where Jesus says of Himself that He is the Door. Here is what Kay Arthur had to say about that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kay: <\/strong>This is so exciting because, many times when we go to Israel, there is a place there, where it\u2019s like a place which is a biblical garden. You can take the people through and you can see a sheepfold. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, they have a sheepfold right there. Well, there is one door that goes into the sheepfold. He talks about in John, Chapter 10\u2014He says, \u201cI am the Door, and nobody enters in but by Me.\u201d\u00a0 But the thief has to climb up and jump in because the thief comes to steal, and kill, and destroy. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut He says, \u201cWhen He comes, He calls His sheep; and He calls His sheep by name,\u201d\u2014which is exciting to me because the One, who is Emmanuel\/God with us, also knows us by name. And when He calls us by name, the sheep recognize His voice\u2014and they follow Him, and they will not follow another. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, the shepherd would come through the door into the sheepfold. You would have maybe ten shepherds\u2019 sheep in there. He would say, for instance, \u201cHere sheepie, sheepie, sheepie, sheepie.\u201d [Laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAll the sheep that belonged to that particular shepherd would perk up their little ears and just follow him out. The other sheep would just stand around, knowing that wasn\u2019t their shepherd. But also, then, he would be able to say, \u201cHey, Curly,\u201d\u2014or \u201cWooly,\u201d or whatever you called your sheep\u2014and he knew them by name\u2014but they knew his voice. And He\u2019s the Door. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br>Then, you have the Lamb of God in John 1:29. It says, \u201cThis is the Lamb of God.\u201d\u00a0 John the Baptist was saying, \u201cThis is the Lamb of God that takes away\u201d\u2014the what?\u2014\u201cthe sins of the world.\u201d So, every Christmas, what we do is\u2014the grandchildren and I get together before Christmas Eve. We write and do a play for the family. So, we always have a Christmas play. We have come up with some of the most <em>tremendously <\/em>creative plays. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne day, they are walking in, with a pillowcase stuffed. They are saying: \u201cOh, this burden on my back. Oh, if I could just get rid of this burden on my back,\u201d\u2014which is their sins; you know?\u00a0 Then, we present Jesus in John 1:29 as the Lamb of God. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You know, I wish we could get Kay to videotape the play this year and post it online. That\u2019d be kind of fun; wouldn\u2019t it?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>It would be. You know, what she\u2019s talking about though, Bob, is building traditions that celebrate the Savior here at Christmas. And there are so many things that can take us off message.
