But what they pay even more attention to is what you do. If the two don\u2019t match up, you have problems. Please don\u2019t hear hypocrisy as a religious reference\u2014it\u2019s not.\u00a0 My daughter is already like: \u201cWhy do you get two popsicles?\u00a0 I thought too many popsicles make you sick.\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 What do you even say to that?\u00a0 You\u2019re just like, \u201cHere\u2019s another popsicle; alright?\u201d\u00a0 What do you do?\u2014I just felt cornered; alright? Or when we put her to bed at eight: \u201cYou need your rest \/ you need your sleep. We don\u2019t want you to be cranky tomorrow.\u201d So, \u201cWhen are you going to bed?\u201d \u201cWell, don\u2019t worry about me\u2014I\u2019m the daddy.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cBut you said\u2026\u201d \u201cI know what I said!\u00a0 We\u2019re different\u2014we\u2019re different. Do your children make a big deal out of Father\u2019s Day?\u00a0 Do they usually acknowledge it and [Laughter]\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes. Sure\u2014just like Mother\u2019s Day. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>So they pretty much ignore it?\u00a0 Is what you\u2019re saying?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>No. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You get a phone call. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I hear from them; and I hear from them, all year long. I mean, our kids have done a good job of honoring me, as a dad. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI don\u2019t lack for any feelings of respect by them, as adults now. In fact, talking about fathers, Bob, it reminds me of the photographer Anne Geddes. I don\u2019t know if you\u2019ve seen any of her work. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>With the kids in the flower pots and stuff. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes, I don\u2019t know how she gets away with putting kids in these different containers and, then, putting flowers in their hair and stuff and taking pictures of them. But she should know a little bit about fathers because she\u2019s taken so many children\u2019s pictures. She said, \u201cAny man can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a dad.\u201d\u00a0 To be a dad, in the truest sense of the word, a man needs to be equipped as a father. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019ll never forget\u2014at one of our <em>Weekend to Remember<\/em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup> conferences, a man came up to me on Sunday morning, right before lunch and said, \u201cI just wanted to tell you\u2014this weekend, I became a father at the conference.\u201d\u00a0 I said, \u201cYour wife had a baby?\u201d\u00a0 He said, \u201cNo.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 I thought, \u201cDo they make\u2014do they make pregnancy tests like that?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe said: \u201cNo, no, no, no; none of that.\u201d He said, \u201cI finally found out what it means to be a father\u2014\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Wow.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014\u201cand I just wanted to say, \u2018Thank you.\u2019\u201d\u00a0 You know what, Bob?\u00a0 I want to say, \u201cThank you,\u201d to all the listeners who supported and gave financially to keep <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> on the air and to say to FamilyLife: \u201cKeep going. Matt is one of the guys\u2014when we sat down to do the video series for men\u2014the <em>Stepping Up<\/em><em><sup>\u2122<\/sup><\/em> video series\u2014and we wanted to talk to guys about \u201cWhat does the Bible have to say about authentic, biblical masculinity?\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014Matt\u2019s one of the guys we went and talked to because he has a handle on this. We\u2019ve got a segment in the <em>Stepping Up<\/em> series that features Matt and his wife, Lauren, talking about a huge challenge they\u2019ve been through in their marriage and in their family. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThis message we are going to hear today from Matt is Part Two of a message that is all about helping dads become more effective as fathers. Here is Pastor Matt Chandler.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Recorded Message]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt: <\/strong>We started out defining what manhood is\u2014defining masculinity.\u00a0 We said that God created men and women equal yet very distinct. Now, I want to move on; and I want to talk about men, as fathers. It\u2019s not complex\u2014now, it\u2019s not <em>easy<\/em>\u2014but it\u2019s not complex. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLet\u2019s look at Ephesians 6. We\u2019ll pick it up in verse 1: \u201cChildren, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother (for this is the first commandment with a promise), \u2018\u2026that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.\u2019\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLet me point out a couple of things. The Bible, over and over again, is going to line out how God created the universe to operate rhythmically. You have it happening here because the progression of what happens with children is\u2014children start out simply obeying. If you grow them and pour into them, it ends in honor. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut I want to point out something really interesting to you. He starts by addressing the children\u2014and he says to them, \u201cObey your\u201d\u2014who?\u2014\u201cparents\u201d\u2014husband and wife. Then, he moves on and says, \u201cHonor your mother and father.\u201d\u00a0 Once again, he addresses both parents. When he\u2019s talking to the children, he addresses the parents as a singular unit. But, when he moves on and begins to address the home, what\u2019s the first word in verse 4?\u2014\u201cFathers.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I\u2019ll continue to push that men do not have the <em>sole<\/em> responsibility in the home\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014but the <em>leading<\/em> one. I\u2019ll continue to say that\u2014although Lauren, my wife, has some responsibility in the rearing of our children \/ in the ordering of our home\u2014if Jesus knocks on the door and she answers, He\u2019ll go, \u201cGood morning, Lauren, where\u2019s Matt?\u201d\u00a0 And He\u2019s not asking where I am because He needs to know; alright. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s a very interesting, right-out-of-the-gate command: \u201cFathers, do not provoke your children to\u201d\u2014what?\u2014\u201canger.\u201d\u00a0 Of all the things\u2014alright, there are only two commands here \/ that\u2019s it\u2014to fathers\u2014two commands. Of all the commands that you can unpack \/ of all the things to command a father to do, why, right out of the gate, is it, \u201cHey, don\u2019t provoke your children to anger\u201d?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Let me try to explain because I think this is so big. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWherever you have an authority that is intrinsically broken, itself\u2014which all of us are because it\u2019s a fallen world\u2014so, what I mean by that is\u2014every man in here \/ every father in here\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014we\u2019ve got places of insecurity in our soul. We get tired. We can get to that place where we have a short fuse. God knows, if we feel disrespected, someone has to die; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, you have a man who has those frailties. Then, you have a sinful subordinate underneath the sinful authority. Well, when those two things collide\u2014subordinate and authority\u2014both of them have sinful tendencies. The illegitimate child that\u2019s born out of that is anger\u2014is anger. So, what he\u2019s saying here is: \u201cFathers, be careful not to provoke them to more anger.\u201d\u00a0 Let me tell you why this is so huge. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s so huge because anger\u2014more than any other emotion\u2014completely trumps and removes your ability to feel or think rationally or sanely about anything. If you\u2019ll think back on your life to some of the dumbest stuff that\u2019s ever come out of your mouth\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014I would guarantee you that it came out when you were angry. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf I can make this as simple as I can, it\u2019s going: \u201cDad, don\u2019t poke your kids with a stick. Don\u2019t do that!\u201d\u00a0 Listen, I\u2019m in no way trying to remove your authority\u2014your call to discipline or your command to preach, teach, and work truth out in your home. I\u2019m <em>not <\/em>saying: \u201cDon\u2019t make your kids angry.\u201d\u00a0 I\u2019m saying: \u201cAvoid avoidable anger.\u201d Anger is unbelievably devastating to the human soul\u2014unbelievably devastating. So, it says the fathers have a responsibility to not provoke this in their children. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat are some ways that we battle this? I\u2019m going to be real careful about giving you: \u201cThis is what you should do,\u201d\u2014what I more want to do is put an umbrella over you and let you work it out with your family \/ let you go sit down with your wife and say, \u201cHow do we do this?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut let me tell you some things that I just don\u2019t think you can argue\u2014you can\u2019t scream at your kids. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI mean, do you think they listen more when you\u2019re screaming at the top of your lungs and they\u2019re screaming back at you?\u00a0 I\u2019m guessing that that\u2019s not an intelligent\/sane conversation. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think more and more and more\u2014fathers should be going into their children\u2019s bedrooms at night, before they go to bed, after the big explosion and go: \u201cI handled that wrong. Now, what you did was not right, and it was not excusable; but I handled it wrong. I need to ask for your forgiveness. Do you forgive me?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLet\u2019s look at what he says next. What he says next is what we figure he would say\u2014\u201cFathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and the instruction of the Lord.\u201d\u00a0 Now, the Bible doesn\u2019t leave us hanging here. It\u2019s really going to get into some detail about how we discipline and train our children in the instruction of the Lord. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSome of it will sting, but let\u2019s go over to Psalm 78. It\u2019s a great text: \u201cGive ear, O my people, to my teaching. Incline your ears to the words of my mouth. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cI will open my mouth in a parable or a story; I will utter dark sayings from of old, things that we have heard and known that our fathers have told us.\u201d\u00a0 Verse 4 is where we\u2019re going to get into these umbrella statements; alright?\u00a0 \u201cWe will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generations the glorious deeds of the Lord and His might and the wonders that He has done.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, I love this text because it\u2019s about as umbrella as it gets. Here\u2019s what it is saying: \u201cIt is our job to continually take everything that is good \/ everything that is right \/ everything that is enjoyable \/ everything that is lovely and bring it back, for our children, to its place of origin. We try to do that with everything\u2014anything that is good, anything that is right, anything that is spectacular\u2014God\u2019s going to get the credit for that. Even difficult times, He\u2019s given credit for: \u201cHow much does He love us that He would let us grow and learn through this?\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOur hope is that, if you ask our kids, 20 or 30 years from now, \u201cTell me about your home, growing up\u201d\u2014whether they believe or not because we can\u2019t control that\u2014what we want is our kids to say: \u201cGod was central. God was who he loved. He gave God credit for everything\u2014I mean, I couldn\u2019t eat a piece of chocolate \/ I couldn\u2019t play in the pool \/ I couldn\u2019t...\u2014without my dad going, \u2018How amazing is God that He gave us waterslides!\u2019\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLook at verse 5. It\u2019s going to be a reference to the Torah or the Old Testament: \u201cHe established a testimony in Jacob and appointed a law in Israel which He commanded our fathers to teach their children that the next generation might know Him.\u201d\u00a0 This is a reference to the Torah\u2014or the first five books of the Old Testament. In the new covenant\u2014where we find ourselves now\u2014this would be a reference to the Scriptures in the home\u2014that the Scriptures should be known, that they should be taught, that they should be embraced in our home\u2014as God\u2019s self-disclosure of Himself. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, not only should the Scriptures be known, but the command there is to teach them. Now, I want to be really careful here because I don\u2019t think this means that you\u2019ve got to sit your kid down and go: \u201cThis word, in Hebrew, is <em>ahava<\/em>. The root meaning\u2026\u201d\u2014I don\u2019t think that\u2019s the kind of teaching that needs to occur. I think (a) the Scriptures must be known and embraced in the home and that you can do things that supplement you not being a teacher\u2014that feels like you can engage your children. In fact, what we want to be here, at The Village, is a supplement to that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut let me speak to two things\u2014both of them, I think, will probably create seats. Kids, at a very early age, are born with this hypocrisy meter; and I\u2019m not even speaking religiously. Please don\u2019t hear hypocrisy as a religious reference\u2014it\u2019s not. My daughter is already like: \u201cWhy do you get two popsicles?\u00a0 I don\u2019t get two popsicles. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cI thought too many popsicles make you sick\u2014because I had the red one, and you have the purple one. And you have a green one now, and purple is not green. I thought that it would make you sick.\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter] What do you even say to that?\u00a0 You\u2019re just like, \u201cHere\u2019s another popsicle; alright?\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 I mean, what do you do?\u00a0 I just felt cornered; alright. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOr when we put her to bed at eight: \u201cYou need your rest \/ you need your sleep. We don\u2019t want you to be cranky tomorrow.\u201d So, \u201cWhen are you going to bed?\u201d \u201cWell, don\u2019t worry about me. I\u2019m the daddy.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cBut you said\u2026\u201d \u201cI know what I said!\u00a0 We\u2019re different\u2014we\u2019re different. Old people don\u2019t need as much sleep; alright?\u201d\u00a0 And you\u2019re like: \u201cIs that even true?\u00a0 Did I just lie to my kid, unbeknownst to me?!\u00a0 Do we need less sleep?\u201d\u2014Google; alright. [Laughter] Yes, they pick it up. \u201cMake your bed.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cWell, I was just downstairs, and who is making your bed?\u201d [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat I\u2019m saying is this: \u201cThis is an impossible task if you\u2019re not willing to submit to God yourself.\u201d\u00a0 You can put the Ten Commandments up in your home \/ you can know the moral things to say\u2014\u201cDon\u2019t do this,\u201d \u201cDon\u2019t do that,\u201d \u201cDon\u2019t do this,\u201d\u2014but if you\u2019re not in glad submission to God yourself, nothing happens. This is one of those points\u2014I just want to continually say: \u201cWe\u2019re not going to be perfect. We are going to blow it. We are going to be hypocrites. We are going to have seasons that are difficult for us. We are, but the grace of God covers those things if we will continue to press in.\u201d\u00a0 So, that\u2019s number one. I think you have to be in glad submission yourself, or there\u2019s no way you can do this. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHere\u2019s the second thing\u2014I think, you have to relish the role. Here\u2019s what I mean by that: On the way home from work \/ specifically, long days\u2014I have young children \/ a 4-year-old and a 2-year-old\u2014on the way home, I have to, in my mind, prepare myself for walking in our front door because, if I\u2019m not careful, I\u2019ll go: \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cMan, I just worked a long day. I just want to lie on the couch. I want to watch <em>SportsCenter<\/em> and drink a Coke. [Laughter] That\u2019s what I want to do tonight. I just want to do that, and I want to enjoy that.\u201d Then, I\u2019m going to walk in the door; and what\u2019s going to happen?\u00a0 I\u2019ve got two kids\u2014they are going to run up. They\u2019re going to want to play. Lauren is going to want to tell me about her day; and I\u2019ve had, in my mind,\u2014is this not the truth?\u00a0 All frustration is birthed out of unmet expectation. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I\u2019ve got to come home, going: \u201cThe job\u2019s not done today\u2014job\u2019s not done!\u00a0 I\u2019ve got about three-and-a-half more hours. It\u2019s not over\u2014three-and-a-half more hours to love, to shape, to pour into, to speak, to give out of myself\u2014three-and-a-half more hours.\u201d If our mind hasn\u2019t shifted like that, then, our three-and-a-half hours with our children and our wife are more often than not going to be combative. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I try to do\u2014on the way home, I am going to go: \u201cWhen I get home, the kids are going to be hopped up on sugar, Lauren will be duck taped in a closet, and the house will be on fire.\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter] Alright? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo that, when I get in\u2014I\u2019m like: \u201cNothing is on fire,\u201d\u2014awesome!\u00a0 And I free Lauren; and we play with the kids, alright, for like an hour-and-a-half \/ two hours. [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut this has to be\u2014we have to relish our role. We have to say, \u201cThank You, God, that You gave me babies to pour into for such a short period of time\u2014that I might pour into, love, enjoy, communicate, walk with.\u201d\u00a0 That will transcend the Cowboy\u2019s season\u2014I promise you. So, you have to attack it like that\u2014you have to walk in the door, knowing that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Studio]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Well, again, we\u2019ve been listening to a message today from Pastor Matt Chandler in the Dallas area. Well, the other day,\u201d she said, \u201cmy 15-year-old daughter found the note, and started reading it, and shared it with her 13-year-old brother.\u201d\u00a0 She said, \u201cYou have to know how gratifying it was to watch them relish these words of lavish love that my husband had expressed to me in this note, some 20 years ago.\u201d\u00a0 And she said, \u201cIt was so delightful. I have so many issues of my own I don\u2019t think I can really be the kind of dad I ought to be.\u201d\u00a0 How would you respond to a guy like that?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Well, I think Matt\u2019s message today is a great exhortation from Scripture: Stand firm in the faith. But you know what?\u00a0 Matt also has an answer to your question, Bob. She would want to give you those things. But what normally happens is\u2014you just take it all the time and don\u2019t fill your role. Then, one night, you really want that thing; but it\u2019s the one night she really needs a break too. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>24:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou have this cataclysmic blowup, where you feel disrespected because you\u2019ve been a little boy, who\u2019s married with children, and your wife finally called you on it. Yes. So, I think you have to relish the role, men\u2014I think you have to <em>relish<\/em> it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI mean, honestly, who gets to be a hero?\u00a0 Well, daddies do. Daddies get to be heroes\u2014you should relish that. You shouldn\u2019t let a day escape you. I think we forget that we only get to do this once. Sure\u2014just like Mother\u2019s Day. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>So they pretty much ignore it?\u00a0 Is what you\u2019re saying?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>No. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You get a phone call. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I hear from them; and I hear from them, all year long. I mean, our kids have done a good job of honoring me, as a dad. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI don\u2019t lack for any feelings of respect by them, as adults now. In fact, talking about fathers, Bob, it reminds me of the photographer Anne Geddes. I don\u2019t know if you\u2019ve seen any of her work. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>With the kids in the flower pots and stuff. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes, I don\u2019t know how she gets away with putting kids in these different containers and, then, putting flowers in their hair and stuff and taking pictures of them. But she should know a little bit about fathers because she\u2019s taken so many children\u2019s pictures. She said, \u201cAny man can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a dad.\u201d\u00a0 To be a dad, in the truest sense of the word, a man needs to be equipped as a father. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019ll never forget\u2014at one of our <em>Weekend to Remember<\/em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup> conferences, a man came up to me on Sunday morning, right before lunch and said, \u201cI just wanted to tell you\u2014this weekend, I became a father at the conference.\u201d\u00a0 I said, \u201cYour wife had a baby?\u201d\u00a0 He said, \u201cNo.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 I thought, \u201cDo they make\u2014do they make pregnancy tests like that?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe said: \u201cNo, no, no, no; none of that.\u201d He said, \u201cI finally found out what it means to be a father\u2014\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Wow.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014\u201cand I just wanted to say, \u2018Thank you.\u2019\u201d\u00a0 You know what, Bob?\u00a0 I want to say, \u201cThank you,\u201d to all the listeners who supported and gave financially to keep <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> on the air and to say to FamilyLife: \u201cKeep going. Matt is one of the guys\u2014when we sat down to do the video series for men\u2014the <em>Stepping Up<\/em><em><sup>\u2122<\/sup><\/em> video series\u2014and we wanted to talk to guys about \u201cWhat does the Bible have to say about authentic, biblical masculinity?\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014Matt\u2019s one of the guys we went and talked to because he has a handle on this. We\u2019ve got a segment in the <em>Stepping Up<\/em> series that features Matt and his wife, Lauren, talking about a huge challenge they\u2019ve been through in their marriage and in their family. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThis message we are going to hear today from Matt is Part Two of a message that is all about helping dads become more effective as fathers. Here is Pastor Matt Chandler.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Recorded Message]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt: <\/strong>We started out defining what manhood is\u2014defining masculinity.\u00a0 We said that God created men and women equal yet very distinct. Now, I want to move on; and I want to talk about men, as fathers. It\u2019s not complex\u2014now, it\u2019s not <em>easy<\/em>\u2014but it\u2019s not complex. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLet\u2019s look at Ephesians 6. We\u2019ll pick it up in verse 1: \u201cChildren, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother (for this is the first commandment with a promise), \u2018\u2026that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.\u2019\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLet me point out a couple of things. The Bible, over and over again, is going to line out how God created the universe to operate rhythmically. You have it happening here because the progression of what happens with children is\u2014children start out simply obeying. If you grow them and pour into them, it ends in honor. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut I want to point out something really interesting to you. He starts by addressing the children\u2014and he says to them, \u201cObey your\u201d\u2014who?\u2014\u201cparents\u201d\u2014husband and wife. Then, he moves on and says, \u201cHonor your mother and father.\u201d\u00a0 Once again, he addresses both parents. When he\u2019s talking to the children, he addresses the parents as a singular unit. But, when he moves on and begins to address the home, what\u2019s the first word in verse 4?\u2014\u201cFathers.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I\u2019ll continue to push that men do not have the <em>sole<\/em> responsibility in the home\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014but the <em>leading<\/em> one. I\u2019ll continue to say that\u2014although Lauren, my wife, has some responsibility in the rearing of our children \/ in the ordering of our home\u2014if Jesus knocks on the door and she answers, He\u2019ll go, \u201cGood morning, Lauren, where\u2019s Matt?\u201d\u00a0 And He\u2019s not asking where I am because He needs to know; alright. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s a very interesting, right-out-of-the-gate command: \u201cFathers, do not provoke your children to\u201d\u2014what?\u2014\u201canger.\u201d\u00a0 Of all the things\u2014alright, there are only two commands here \/ that\u2019s it\u2014to fathers\u2014two commands. Of all the commands that you can unpack \/ of all the things to command a father to do, why, right out of the gate, is it, \u201cHey, don\u2019t provoke your children to anger\u201d?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Let me try to explain because I think this is so big. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWherever you have an authority that is intrinsically broken, itself\u2014which all of us are because it\u2019s a fallen world\u2014so, what I mean by that is\u2014every man in here \/ every father in here\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014we\u2019ve got places of insecurity in our soul. We get tired. We can get to that place where we have a short fuse. God knows, if we feel disrespected, someone has to die; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, you have a man who has those frailties. Then, you have a sinful subordinate underneath the sinful authority. Well, when those two things collide\u2014subordinate and authority\u2014both of them have sinful tendencies. The illegitimate child that\u2019s born out of that is anger\u2014is anger. So, what he\u2019s saying here is: \u201cFathers, be careful not to provoke them to more anger.\u201d\u00a0 Let me tell you why this is so huge. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s so huge because anger\u2014more than any other emotion\u2014completely trumps and removes your ability to feel or think rationally or sanely about anything. If you\u2019ll think back on your life to some of the dumbest stuff that\u2019s ever come out of your mouth\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014I would guarantee you that it came out when you were angry. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf I can make this as simple as I can, it\u2019s going: \u201cDad, don\u2019t poke your kids with a stick. Don\u2019t do that!\u201d\u00a0 Listen, I\u2019m in no way trying to remove your authority\u2014your call to discipline or your command to preach, teach, and work truth out in your home. I\u2019m <em>not <\/em>saying: \u201cDon\u2019t make your kids angry.\u201d\u00a0 I\u2019m saying: \u201cAvoid avoidable anger.\u201d Anger is unbelievably devastating to the human soul\u2014unbelievably devastating. So, it says the fathers have a responsibility to not provoke this in their children. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat are some ways that we battle this? I\u2019m going to be real careful about giving you: \u201cThis is what you should do,\u201d\u2014what I more want to do is put an umbrella over you and let you work it out with your family \/ let you go sit down with your wife and say, \u201cHow do we do this?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut let me tell you some things that I just don\u2019t think you can argue\u2014you can\u2019t scream at your kids. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI mean, do you think they listen more when you\u2019re screaming at the top of your lungs and they\u2019re screaming back at you?\u00a0 I\u2019m guessing that that\u2019s not an intelligent\/sane conversation. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think more and more and more\u2014fathers should be going into their children\u2019s bedrooms at night, before they go to bed, after the big explosion and go: \u201cI handled that wrong. Now, what you did was not right, and it was not excusable; but I handled it wrong. I need to ask for your forgiveness. Do you forgive me?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLet\u2019s look at what he says next. What he says next is what we figure he would say\u2014\u201cFathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and the instruction of the Lord.\u201d\u00a0 Now, the Bible doesn\u2019t leave us hanging here. It\u2019s really going to get into some detail about how we discipline and train our children in the instruction of the Lord. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSome of it will sting, but let\u2019s go over to Psalm 78. It\u2019s a great text: \u201cGive ear, O my people, to my teaching. Incline your ears to the words of my mouth. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cI will open my mouth in a parable or a story; I will utter dark sayings from of old, things that we have heard and known that our fathers have told us.\u201d\u00a0 Verse 4 is where we\u2019re going to get into these umbrella statements; alright?\u00a0 \u201cWe will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generations the glorious deeds of the Lord and His might and the wonders that He has done.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, I love this text because it\u2019s about as umbrella as it gets. Here\u2019s what it is saying: \u201cIt is our job to continually take everything that is good \/ everything that is right \/ everything that is enjoyable \/ everything that is lovely and bring it back, for our children, to its place of origin. We try to do that with everything\u2014anything that is good, anything that is right, anything that is spectacular\u2014God\u2019s going to get the credit for that. Even difficult times, He\u2019s given credit for: \u201cHow much does He love us that He would let us grow and learn through this?\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOur hope is that, if you ask our kids, 20 or 30 years from now, \u201cTell me about your home, growing up\u201d\u2014whether they believe or not because we can\u2019t control that\u2014what we want is our kids to say: \u201cGod was central. God was who he loved. He gave God credit for everything\u2014I mean, I couldn\u2019t eat a piece of chocolate \/ I couldn\u2019t play in the pool \/ I couldn\u2019t...\u2014without my dad going, \u2018How amazing is God that He gave us waterslides!\u2019\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLook at verse 5. It\u2019s going to be a reference to the Torah or the Old Testament: \u201cHe established a testimony in Jacob and appointed a law in Israel which He commanded our fathers to teach their children that the next generation might know Him.\u201d\u00a0 This is a reference to the Torah\u2014or the first five books of the Old Testament. In the new covenant\u2014where we find ourselves now\u2014this would be a reference to the Scriptures in the home\u2014that the Scriptures should be known, that they should be taught, that they should be embraced in our home\u2014as God\u2019s self-disclosure of Himself. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, not only should the Scriptures be known, but the command there is to teach them. Now, I want to be really careful here because I don\u2019t think this means that you\u2019ve got to sit your kid down and go: \u201cThis word, in Hebrew, is <em>ahava<\/em>. The root meaning\u2026\u201d\u2014I don\u2019t think that\u2019s the kind of teaching that needs to occur. I think (a) the Scriptures must be known and embraced in the home and that you can do things that supplement you not being a teacher\u2014that feels like you can engage your children. In fact, what we want to be here, at The Village, is a supplement to that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut let me speak to two things\u2014both of them, I think, will probably create seats. Kids, at a very early age, are born with this hypocrisy meter; and I\u2019m not even speaking religiously. Please don\u2019t hear hypocrisy as a religious reference\u2014it\u2019s not. My daughter is already like: \u201cWhy do you get two popsicles?\u00a0 I don\u2019t get two popsicles. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cI thought too many popsicles make you sick\u2014because I had the red one, and you have the purple one. And you have a green one now, and purple is not green. I thought that it would make you sick.\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter] What do you even say to that?\u00a0 You\u2019re just like, \u201cHere\u2019s another popsicle; alright?\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 I mean, what do you do?\u00a0 I just felt cornered; alright. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOr when we put her to bed at eight: \u201cYou need your rest \/ you need your sleep. We don\u2019t want you to be cranky tomorrow.\u201d So, \u201cWhen are you going to bed?\u201d \u201cWell, don\u2019t worry about me. I\u2019m the daddy.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cBut you said\u2026\u201d \u201cI know what I said!\u00a0 We\u2019re different\u2014we\u2019re different. Old people don\u2019t need as much sleep; alright?\u201d\u00a0 And you\u2019re like: \u201cIs that even true?\u00a0 Did I just lie to my kid, unbeknownst to me?!\u00a0 Do we need less sleep?\u201d\u2014Google; alright. [Laughter] Yes, they pick it up. \u201cMake your bed.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cWell, I was just downstairs, and who is making your bed?\u201d [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat I\u2019m saying is this: \u201cThis is an impossible task if you\u2019re not willing to submit to God yourself.\u201d\u00a0 You can put the Ten Commandments up in your home \/ you can know the moral things to say\u2014\u201cDon\u2019t do this,\u201d \u201cDon\u2019t do that,\u201d \u201cDon\u2019t do this,\u201d\u2014but if you\u2019re not in glad submission to God yourself, nothing happens. This is one of those points\u2014I just want to continually say: \u201cWe\u2019re not going to be perfect. We are going to blow it. We are going to be hypocrites. We are going to have seasons that are difficult for us. We are, but the grace of God covers those things if we will continue to press in.\u201d\u00a0 So, that\u2019s number one. I think you have to be in glad submission yourself, or there\u2019s no way you can do this. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHere\u2019s the second thing\u2014I think, you have to relish the role. Here\u2019s what I mean by that: On the way home from work \/ specifically, long days\u2014I have young children \/ a 4-year-old and a 2-year-old\u2014on the way home, I have to, in my mind, prepare myself for walking in our front door because, if I\u2019m not careful, I\u2019ll go: \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cMan, I just worked a long day. I just want to lie on the couch. I want to watch <em>SportsCenter<\/em> and drink a Coke. [Laughter] That\u2019s what I want to do tonight. I just want to do that, and I want to enjoy that.\u201d Then, I\u2019m going to walk in the door; and what\u2019s going to happen?\u00a0 I\u2019ve got two kids\u2014they are going to run up. They\u2019re going to want to play. Lauren is going to want to tell me about her day; and I\u2019ve had, in my mind,\u2014is this not the truth?\u00a0 All frustration is birthed out of unmet expectation. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I\u2019ve got to come home, going: \u201cThe job\u2019s not done today\u2014job\u2019s not done!\u00a0 I\u2019ve got about three-and-a-half more hours. It\u2019s not over\u2014three-and-a-half more hours to love, to shape, to pour into, to speak, to give out of myself\u2014three-and-a-half more hours.\u201d If our mind hasn\u2019t shifted like that, then, our three-and-a-half hours with our children and our wife are more often than not going to be combative. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I try to do\u2014on the way home, I am going to go: \u201cWhen I get home, the kids are going to be hopped up on sugar, Lauren will be duck taped in a closet, and the house will be on fire.\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter] Alright? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo that, when I get in\u2014I\u2019m like: \u201cNothing is on fire,\u201d\u2014awesome!\u00a0 And I free Lauren; and we play with the kids, alright, for like an hour-and-a-half \/ two hours. [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut this has to be\u2014we have to relish our role. We have to say, \u201cThank You, God, that You gave me babies to pour into for such a short period of time\u2014that I might pour into, love, enjoy, communicate, walk with.\u201d\u00a0 That will transcend the Cowboy\u2019s season\u2014I promise you. So, you have to attack it like that\u2014you have to walk in the door, knowing that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Studio]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Well, again, we\u2019ve been listening to a message today from Pastor Matt Chandler in the Dallas area. It does help to pull back and go: \u201cLittle perspective on this assignment I\u2019ve been given by God. I need to roll up my sleeves and do what He\u2019s called me to do.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And your kids are watching. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI received an email here, in the past week, from a friend of FamilyLife. In fact, it was a wife who wrote\u2014who said: \u201cWe went to your conference almost 20 years ago. And at the conference, my husband wrote me a love letter; and I\u2019d kept that note in my billfold all these years. Well, the other day,\u201d she said, \u201cmy 15-year-old daughter found the note, and started reading it, and shared it with her 13-year-old brother.\u201d\u00a0 She said, \u201cYou have to know how gratifying it was to watch them relish these words of lavish love that my husband had expressed to me in this note, some 20 years ago.\u201d\u00a0 And she said, \u201cIt was so delightful. She would want to give you those things. But what normally happens is\u2014you just take it all the time and don\u2019t fill your role. Then, one night, you really want that thing; but it\u2019s the one night she really needs a break too. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>24:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou have this cataclysmic blowup, where you feel disrespected because you\u2019ve been a little boy, who\u2019s married with children, and your wife finally called you on it. Yes. So, I think you have to relish the role, men\u2014I think you have to <em>relish<\/em> it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI mean, honestly, who gets to be a hero?\u00a0 Well, daddies do. Daddies get to be heroes\u2014you should relish that. You shouldn\u2019t let a day escape you. I think we forget that we only get to do this once.
