Pastor Kyle Idleman says this new movie, <em>The Song<\/em>, has a lot of contemporary relevance. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>Ecclesiastes is kind of Solomon\u2019s journal. He talks about his pursuit to find meaning in life. By merging together his love story, in the Song of Solomon, and his journal, in Ecclesiastes, it takes us on, I think, a very personal journey of Solomon\u2019s life. I don\u2019t know of two books that are more relevant to our culture today than the books of Ecclesiastes and Song of Solomon. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>This is <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> for Friday, September 26<sup>th<\/sup>. I\u2019m just curious\u2014the last time you went to a movie theater to watch a movie in the theater, did you\u2014[Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You take great delight\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>I\u2019m not asking you\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014in humiliating me\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>No, I just\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014in my lack of attendance at the movie theater. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>I\u2019m sure this was probably the first <em>Star Wars<\/em> movie\u2014that was the last time you were at\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>No!\u00a0 It\u2019s been since then. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Did you get popcorn when you went?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes. <br>\u00a0\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You paid the inflated, high prices and got the popcorn?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes. [Laughter] I\u2019ll bet the guys, who are with us here in the studio, know the answer to this question\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>It\u2019s not\u2014you don\u2019t want to know. I want plausible deniability\u2014[Laughter]\u2014just eat it and enjoy it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Welcome to the broadcast. No thanks to the guilt, I\u2019m still going to have another one. Alan is the lead singer and songwriter for Anthem Lights, which is a popular band out of Nashville. Is that right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>Well, I\u2019m not going to speak to the popular thing, but it is a band that is in Nashville. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>He is also Jed King. I\u2019m going to read what Alan wrote about himself in the movie, <em>The Song<\/em>\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>I don\u2019t remember\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014he stars in. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>I don\u2019t remember writing whatever he\u2019s about to read\u2014I just want to say. [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u201c\u2026a young\u2026charismatic (and wise beyond his years) singer\/songwriter painfully overshadowed by the legendary musical accomplishments and catastrophic moral failures of his famous father, David King.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Now, we need to stop right here. This is the movie\u2014anybody\u2014just thinking, for a minute, David <em>King<\/em> and his son, Jed. That ought to be ringing some bells with some Sunday school kids. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Think Psalms and Bathsheba; okay?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Proverbs, and Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And also joining us is Kyle Idleman. He is an author \/ pastor of Southeast Christian Church in Louisville\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>Well, done\u2014Louisville. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Louisville\u2014I got that right. And he\u2019s co-creator of <em>The Song<\/em>, which is a music drama that is a love story\u2014as we\u2019ve just mentioned\u2014is inspired by King Solomon and David\u2019s foolish choices. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>And is in theaters starting tonight. We\u2019re hoping listeners will plan to go see <em>The Song<\/em>. In fact, we\u2019ve been talking about <em>The Song<\/em> at our <em>I Still Do<\/em><sup>\u2122<\/sup> marriage events, back in Chicago and in Portland. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe showed the trailer to listeners and encouraged them to get out and see this. We\u2019re going to talk about it again in Washington, DC, at the next <em>I Still Do<\/em> one-day marriage event, that we are hosting there, because we think it is a movie that gives people kind of a realistic picture of the issues that couples are facing in marriage. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes. Kyle, I want you to share with our listeners where the idea for <em>The Song<\/em> came from. I mean, you\u2019re a pastor of what\u2019s called the fifth largest church in America\u201420,000 people worship there every weekend. I mean, what inspired this?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>Well, you know I have, over the years, taught the Song of Solomon in a number of settings\u2014I\u2019ve taught it at church \/ I\u2019ve taught it on college campuses. <br><br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And this is how your church became 20,000 people. [Laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>Yes\u2014you talk about some of these issues enough\u2014but you know\u2014that really is true. It\u2019s a very relevant book. It\u2019s a very relevant topic. It\u2019s something that we all care deeply about. So, when I would teach the Song of Solomon, I would see how attendance would go up. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tPeople had a lot of questions. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen we talk about love\/sex\u2014these are all things that are dealt with all around us. Yet, we, oftentimes, don\u2019t hear these things talked about in church in an honest way\u2014in a raw way. Song of Solomon deals with the subjects genuinely. As I would teach in these different places, I just was, again and again, thinking, \u201cThis would be a great film if it was a modern-day adaptation of Solomon\u2019s life.\u201d\u00a0 In other words, if we took some of the same issues, being dealt with in the Song of Solomon, I think it could really speak to where a lot of people are at. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIn our church, we are constantly dealing with these same themes\u2014parents trying to figure out how to talk to their kids about sex; dads, like me, trying to figure out how they are going to talk to their daughters about dating; couples, who are married, but really their marriage has become a business relationship\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014they know who does what and they cover their responsibilities\u2014but they don\u2019t love each other anymore. They certainly don\u2019t feel passionate about one another anymore. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat you see in the Song of Solomon is\u2014God intended it to be a passionate love for one another\u2014we can celebrate marriage. It speaks directly to this\u2014so many of the subjects \/ so many of the challenges we have today. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You mentioned the word, raw. I think that is an accurate word for this movie; don\u2019t you, Bob?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>I do; and not, in any way, inappropriate\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014but very honest and realistic. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>It deals with some tough issues but in a very tasteful way. Who is this for?\u00a0 What age group\u2014if a parent was thinking of taking his kids to this?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>Well, as a father of four kids, I would feel comfortable taking my 13-, and 15-, and 16-year-olds to this movie. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou know, I think that is the right age, where they are going to be interested in what\u2019s happening. It\u2019s going to start some good conversations. The Song of Solomon, I believe, was not typically read by Hebrew children until they reached age 13. And so, I think the movie, probably, follows that same standard. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>But there\u2019s drug use in the movie. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>There\u2019s adultery in the movie because these were real aspects of the life of the King of Israel; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>That\u2019s right. And you know, biblically\u2014if you look at so much of the real estate in the Old Testament\u2014you find that it is committed to telling us some of the dark side of our heroes of the faith. The Bible doesn\u2019t try to make it sound like everything is good all the time. It shows us the raw side\u2014sometimes the struggle. That is certainly true for Solomon\u2019s life. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think\u2014sometimes, as preachers \/ sometimes, in filmmaking, as Christians\u2014we want to make everything pretty\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014but in reality, when we see sin and darkness, we recognize the consequences. That\u2019s when we also recognize that our need is a Savior\u2014that our foundation needs to be God and His Word. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Alan, you have the lead in this film. It\u2019s a modern-day telling of the life of Solomon. Kind of walk us through the story of <em>The Song<\/em>; will you?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>Sure. In the beginning, just as we find in Scripture, the Solomon character, who is Jed\u2014you get kind of an introduction into how his life began. You get a little bit of backstory\u2014the David and Bathsheba kind of prologue\u2014if you will. Then, when you move forward from there, it begins very quickly in Jed\u2019s development as an artist. He\u2019s frustrated with the huge shadow that is cast over him and his career in life, really. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Because his dad wrote a lot of songs. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>His dad was very successful, and he wrote a lot of songs.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>I see what you\u2019re doing there. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes. That\u2019s right. [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>But he made a lot of bad choices, as we\u2014certainly, as we see in Scripture as well. He has to live with those choices. Every person that he interacts with has kind of got this presupposition about him and where he came from. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, he\u2019s dealing with all of those things and frustrated about those things. It\u2019s certainly speaking into his artistry. He\u2019s kind of an angry artist and, certainly, dealing with some forgiveness issues and those things. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tPretty quickly into the story, he meets Rose, who ends up being his wife. He falls pretty quickly in love with her. From then, we get to kind of see their dating relationship; and then, they get married. Then, we see\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Now, wait. I\u2019ve just got to say, \u201cWhat was the town in Indiana that Rose was from?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>Sharon. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>Yes, I just thought we had to throw that in there. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>Yes, we have a lot of little\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You guys\u2014there\u2019s a lot of little stuff in there! [Laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>A lot of little gifts for those biblical scholars. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>So, it\u2019s fun to kind of watch those and pick up on those. There are still some that I don\u2019t know if everybody has caught onto them\u2014I keep waiting. I mean, obviously, I had an inside track. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>So, it\u2019ll be fun to see all that come to fruition. But he meets her \/ falls in love with her. They get married. And then, he writes a song that\u2014the film is called <em>The Song<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe is kind of a frustrated artist up until this point, and when he falls in love and meets Rose, that\u2019s kind of what unlocks his ability to write and to be an artist. So, he writes this song for her on their wedding night. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Not just any song. It is <em>the<\/em> song\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014of songs; right?\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>Well-done. This is going to be\u2014all day. I like this. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>Yes, he\u2019s picking it up. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>So, he writes this song that propels him to stardom. The rest of the story is about the struggles of that; right?\u2014the struggles of being away from your family and the priority of family, in light of his life\u2014but our lives, in general\u2014kind of regardless of what your life looks like. I think that\u2019s a balance. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019ve been married eight years, myself. Regardless of where we are at\u2014our phase of life\u2014there is always a balance of life\u2014or vocation or things that life is calling you to do\u2014versus your priority to your marriage and what that looks like. So, the rest of the film is about that struggle, really. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>In fact, there is a scene in the film\u2014and it was one of the most riveting scenes. Jed has come home from doing this very successful tour. He has had an opening artist, who has been with him on the tour. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe has started to experience a little bit of temptation because this opening artist started flirting with him and just kind of drawing him out a little bit. He comes home\u2014and without saying anything about the temptation to his wife\u2014he really wants her to come out on the road with him; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>He does, yes. He really kind of comes home and says: \u201cMan. Okay. This is a real struggle. Something is happening that I don\u2019t want to be happening.\u201d\u00a0 Matter of fact, he takes an overnight flight\u2014flies home. The first thing she asks him is \u201cDid something get canceled?\u201d\u00a0 He says, \u201cNo, I just had to come home.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd so, there is this story\u2014he\u2019s coming home, and he asks her to come with him. Literally, without saying it\u2014like you said, he begs her\u2014like: \u201cThere is something happening. I just need you to come out with me. I need you to be with me. I need\u2014this distance needs to go away.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat I really applaud about this story and this film is that it\u2019s not just a husband, who is gone all the time\u2014and, you know, poor victim wife. I think problems in relationships\u2014there are always two sides to every story, and everybody is playing their part. And she doesn\u2019t go with him. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tShe prioritizes something over their relationship\u2014in the same way that he does. To me, that brings a <em>real <\/em>sense of genuine struggle in a relationship. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>He goes back out on the road\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>He has to\u2014yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014and falls right into the temptations; doesn\u2019t he?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>Not yet; but he\u2019s\u2014it continues to progress. So, after that, it continues to progress. The temptation gets worse, and more, and stronger. Then, when he comes back again and asks her to go\u2014again, after that, she\u2019s still not doing that. Eventually, it gets to\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And I think you\u2019ve got to stop there. You\u2019re going to give away the whole plot. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>Good point. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You\u2019re\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Although I read the story\u2014I know where this things going!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes, you know what it is; but the point is\u2014you are dramatizing what a lot of people are facing in this temptation-rich world that we all live in. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tKyle, you rattled off several groups of people this is for\u2014for young people, teenagers growing up with a lot of temptations, for single people, for marrieds, for parents, for people who are busy\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014and then, who you star in the movie, Jed\u2014who is at the top of his game, reading his own press reports, full of himself, and steps off the edge of the cliff and makes some serious mistakes that really ultimately show the consequences of sin. That\u2019s what you are trying to do here\u2014is you are not trying to sugar-coat how our choices make an impact on our lives or others. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>Well, Solomon\u2019s life teaches us that we are free to make our choices; but we are not free to choose our consequences. We see that come full circle in his life, and that plays out in the movie. One of the things you see\u2014with the husband and wife dynamic, in the movie\u2014that I appreciated was the honest way they dealt with conflict. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think, to that end, it can help someone, who is not yet married, have some realistic expectations. One of the most dangerous threats to marriages today would be these unrealistic expectations\u2014again, in the same areas of sex, and money, and time. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI hope that it will help couples deal with some of these very real conflicts in a healthy way. I also hope that it will help people, who are not yet married, talk through some of these things before they get married. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>Kyle, one of the things I liked about the film was that, while it\u2019s portraying this songwriter writing the song of songs, we see him go into his Ecclesiastes phase in his life; don\u2019t we?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>Yes. This movie draws heavily upon Ecclesiastes, as well, which, of course, Ecclesiastes is kind of Solomon\u2019s journal. He talks about his pursuit to find meaning in life. Merging together his love story, in the Song of Solomon, and his journal, in Ecclesiastes\u2014it takes us on, I think, a very personal journey of Solomon\u2019s life. I don\u2019t know of two books that are more relevant to our culture today\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle:<\/strong> \u2014than the books of Ecclesiastes and Song of Solomon. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And what I want to applaud\u2014now, I already told you guys this; but I want our listeners to hear it too\u2014you guys did it really well. I mean, I don\u2019t like Christian-cheese. Somebody is saying, \u201cWhere do you buy Christian-cheese?\u201d\u00a0 I want to tell you, \u201cThere is a lot of places where Christian-cheese shows up!\u201d\u00a0 This movie is not Christian-cheese, and I love it that a church is producing it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>How were you involved in it\u2014because you don\u2019t have an acting role in the film; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>Then, it would get into the Christian-cheese. [Laughter]\u00a0 You don\u2019t want me acting. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>What was\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>He was in it, though. Don\u2019t sell yourself short, Kyle. I stood next to you for a whole day, I think, when we were filming this thing. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>I don\u2019t think I have any speaking lines. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You have a cameo in here, just like Hitchcock did in all of his movies. What was your participation in helping to shepherd this project?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>Well, initially, it was just getting it going. I just really <em>believed<\/em> in the message\u2014and in Ecclesiastes and the Song of Solomon to relate to people\u2019s lives.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd then\u2014in the storyline, initially, we talked through, \u201cHow can we maintain kind of the poetic dynamic of Song of Solomon in a movie today?\u201d\u00a0 In other words, if we are going to tell this as a modern-day retelling\u2014how can we keep some of that metaphor \/ some of the poetry that really makes things like love, and sex, and intimacy\u2014makes these things so beautiful\u2014how can we maintain that?\u00a0 That\u2019s when we began to develop the concept of a musician and how that could play in with poetry. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br>But from there, I didn\u2019t have a lot to do with it other than just working on the scripts and kind of giving my notes, and edits, and things like that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You were making sure, though, that the story was aligned with what the Scriptures teach. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>Right, and what we want to do\u2014like you\u2019ve talked about the Rose of Sharon\u2014we want it to be a movie where, if you are a Christian and you go see this movie, you\u2019re going to know what you are watching. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>There is going to be a lot of different connecting points, where you\u2019re like, \u201cOh, I can draw that line.\u201d\u00a0 But, if you are <em>not <\/em>a Christian and you are watching the movie, you don\u2019t realize what you\u2019re missing. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You\u2019re watching a movie about a country singer who\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014cheated on his wife; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>Yes. And it will\u2014and then, it will open the door to \u201cWell, here is the story from Scripture.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>We\u2019ve had some other movie producers, here on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>. I happen to know you guys, comparatively speaking, didn\u2019t spend as much money as Hollywood normally spends on a movie like this. In that production, God supplies some great talent \/ some great situations at some extremely low cost. You got any stories you could share with our listeners of how God provided?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>Let me jump in and just to say, \u201cGod provided Alan in that way.\u201d\u00a0 My only big concern before this movie\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Wait, wait. Free or ridiculously low\u2014which was it?\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>Not so much <em>free<\/em>, but the right person. You know\u2014my big concern, when we first put this script together is: \u201cIf we find someone who has the acting talent \/ the musical talent to play this role\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>They\u2019ve got to have the values too. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>\u2014\u201cand if they don\u2019t have the values\u2014if they are going to go out and talk on behalf of this movie, when it comes to love, and sex, and marriage, and that\u2019s not reflected in their life\u2014that we are going to get in trouble really quickly.\u201d\u00a0 I was a little skeptical because this role, that he plays, is so demanding. It requires a really unique gift-mix\u2014I just wasn\u2019t sure if that person was out there. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd so, when Alan\u2014when I first saw some of his reading and audition, I was just amazed that God had brought the right person for the right place\u2014to the right place at the right time. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Alan, how about your background?\u00a0 Have you done other feature films?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>No. This was my first film. The story of how God kind of brought this all together, to me, is such an example of His providence\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014and kind of speaking to what you\u2019re talking about. I\u2019m not going to say whether or not it was this super-talented performance\u2014but I will say that I remember getting the email. I had an agency there in Nashville\u2014that was a film agent\u2014but I had never done any acting. I was in Nashville for music, and\u2014maybe you guys have had something like this happen in your life, where you just kind of knew. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI went to the audition\u2014and everything\u2014from the guy, behind me canceling and not showing up, so I had an extra 30 minutes with the casting director. We talked about our faith, and we talked about family. We talked about everything except the audition for half an hour. Finally, she was like, \u201cWell, I guess we should read something.\u201d\u00a0 I finally just read the audition. At the callback, I got to meet the director, and the executive producers, and the guy who is in charge of music. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI definitely didn\u2019t feel equipped enough \/ talented enough, if you will; but I did know that I was supposed to be the guy. So, there was a confidence, going into that, knowing that God had me there for a reason\u2014that certainly wasn\u2019t in me and my ability because I\u2019d never done it before\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014but just the confidence to know too that God had me at that time and that place with those people for that role because I feel like He always asks us to do things that are above and beyond what we can do so that people will know it was Him. That was certainly a big experience for me. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes, He wants to stretch our faith muscle. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>Yes, absolutely. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>He really does. I think you guys are to be applauded for your courage and stepping out. I want to challenge our listeners to\u2014first of all, those of you who have complained about movies not coming out that reinforce the values that you hold in your marriages \/ your family, that you were raised around\u2014here is your chance to go vote, with a ten dollar bill, and take some other folks with you, and vote for this movie, and enjoy it. I promise you\u2014you will. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou\u2019re going to hear a very important message out of that movie\u2014and that is, there is a payday someday. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>21:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThis movie paints life\u2014warts, scars, blemishes, and all\u2014and it is a great reminder that we are accountable to God for our choices. If we didn\u2019t learn it from the story of David in the Bible, we\u2019re going to hear it in a fresh way from you guys. Thanks for sharing that story. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>And I think the nice part of the story, as well, is that it holds the promise of redemption. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>My prayer is that this movie would deal honestly with a lot of the struggles we may face in marriage, but it would also fill us with hope that it\u2019s not too late\u2014\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>\u2014that as broken as things may seem, right now\u2014that God has the power to put the pieces back together. My favorite thing about God is that He can redeem anything. In all things, He can work together for good. Pastor Kyle Idleman says this new movie, <em>The Song<\/em>, has a lot of contemporary relevance. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>Ecclesiastes is kind of Solomon\u2019s journal. He talks about his pursuit to find meaning in life. By merging together his love story, in the Song of Solomon, and his journal, in Ecclesiastes, it takes us on, I think, a very personal journey of Solomon\u2019s life. I don\u2019t know of two books that are more relevant to our culture today than the books of Ecclesiastes and Song of Solomon. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>This is <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> for Friday, September 26<sup>th<\/sup>. I\u2019m just curious\u2014the last time you went to a movie theater to watch a movie in the theater, did you\u2014[Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You take great delight\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>I\u2019m not asking you\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014in humiliating me\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>No, I just\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014in my lack of attendance at the movie theater. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>I\u2019m sure this was probably the first <em>Star Wars<\/em> movie\u2014that was the last time you were at\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>No!\u00a0 It\u2019s been since then. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Did you get popcorn when you went?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes. <br>\u00a0\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You paid the inflated, high prices and got the popcorn?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes. I want plausible deniability\u2014[Laughter]\u2014just eat it and enjoy it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Welcome to the broadcast. No thanks to the guilt, I\u2019m still going to have another one. Alan is the lead singer and songwriter for Anthem Lights, which is a popular band out of Nashville. Is that right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>Well, I\u2019m not going to speak to the popular thing, but it is a band that is in Nashville. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>He is also Jed King. I\u2019m going to read what Alan wrote about himself in the movie, <em>The Song<\/em>\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>I don\u2019t remember\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014he stars in. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>I don\u2019t remember writing whatever he\u2019s about to read\u2014I just want to say. [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u201c\u2026a young\u2026charismatic (and wise beyond his years) singer\/songwriter painfully overshadowed by the legendary musical accomplishments and catastrophic moral failures of his famous father, David King.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Now, we need to stop right here. This is the movie\u2014anybody\u2014just thinking, for a minute, David <em>King<\/em> and his son, Jed. That ought to be ringing some bells with some Sunday school kids. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Think Psalms and Bathsheba; okay?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Proverbs, and Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And also joining us is Kyle Idleman. He is an author \/ pastor of Southeast Christian Church in Louisville\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>Well, done\u2014Louisville. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Louisville\u2014I got that right. And he\u2019s co-creator of <em>The Song<\/em>, which is a music drama that is a love story\u2014as we\u2019ve just mentioned\u2014is inspired by King Solomon and David\u2019s foolish choices. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>And is in theaters starting tonight. We\u2019re hoping listeners will plan to go see <em>The Song<\/em>. In fact, we\u2019ve been talking about <em>The Song<\/em> at our <em>I Still Do<\/em><sup>\u2122<\/sup> marriage events, back in Chicago and in Portland. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe showed the trailer to listeners and encouraged them to get out and see this. We\u2019re going to talk about it again in Washington, DC, at the next <em>I Still Do<\/em> one-day marriage event, that we are hosting there, because we think it is a movie that gives people kind of a realistic picture of the issues that couples are facing in marriage. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes. Kyle, I want you to share with our listeners where the idea for <em>The Song<\/em> came from. I mean, you\u2019re a pastor of what\u2019s called the fifth largest church in America\u201420,000 people worship there every weekend. I mean, what inspired this?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>Well, you know I have, over the years, taught the Song of Solomon in a number of settings\u2014I\u2019ve taught it at church \/ I\u2019ve taught it on college campuses. <br><br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And this is how your church became 20,000 people. [Laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>Yes\u2014you talk about some of these issues enough\u2014but you know\u2014that really is true. It\u2019s a very relevant book. It\u2019s a very relevant topic. It\u2019s something that we all care deeply about. So, when I would teach the Song of Solomon, I would see how attendance would go up. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tPeople had a lot of questions. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen we talk about love\/sex\u2014these are all things that are dealt with all around us. Yet, we, oftentimes, don\u2019t hear these things talked about in church in an honest way\u2014in a raw way. Song of Solomon deals with the subjects genuinely. As I would teach in these different places, I just was, again and again, thinking, \u201cThis would be a great film if it was a modern-day adaptation of Solomon\u2019s life.\u201d\u00a0 In other words, if we took some of the same issues, being dealt with in the Song of Solomon, I think it could really speak to where a lot of people are at. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIn our church, we are constantly dealing with these same themes\u2014parents trying to figure out how to talk to their kids about sex; dads, like me, trying to figure out how they are going to talk to their daughters about dating; couples, who are married, but really their marriage has become a business relationship\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014they know who does what and they cover their responsibilities\u2014but they don\u2019t love each other anymore. They certainly don\u2019t feel passionate about one another anymore. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat you see in the Song of Solomon is\u2014God intended it to be a passionate love for one another\u2014we can celebrate marriage. It speaks directly to this\u2014so many of the subjects \/ so many of the challenges we have today. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You mentioned the word, raw. I think that is an accurate word for this movie; don\u2019t you, Bob?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>I do; and not, in any way, inappropriate\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014but very honest and realistic. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>It deals with some tough issues but in a very tasteful way. Who is this for?\u00a0 What age group\u2014if a parent was thinking of taking his kids to this?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>Well, as a father of four kids, I would feel comfortable taking my 13-, and 15-, and 16-year-olds to this movie. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou know, I think that is the right age, where they are going to be interested in what\u2019s happening. It\u2019s going to start some good conversations. The Song of Solomon, I believe, was not typically read by Hebrew children until they reached age 13. And so, I think the movie, probably, follows that same standard. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>But there\u2019s drug use in the movie. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>There\u2019s adultery in the movie because these were real aspects of the life of the King of Israel; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>That\u2019s right. And you know, biblically\u2014if you look at so much of the real estate in the Old Testament\u2014you find that it is committed to telling us some of the dark side of our heroes of the faith. The Bible doesn\u2019t try to make it sound like everything is good all the time. It shows us the raw side\u2014sometimes the struggle. That is certainly true for Solomon\u2019s life. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think\u2014sometimes, as preachers \/ sometimes, in filmmaking, as Christians\u2014we want to make everything pretty\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014but in reality, when we see sin and darkness, we recognize the consequences. That\u2019s when we also recognize that our need is a Savior\u2014that our foundation needs to be God and His Word. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Alan, you have the lead in this film. It\u2019s a modern-day telling of the life of Solomon. Kind of walk us through the story of <em>The Song<\/em>; will you?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>Sure. In the beginning, just as we find in Scripture, the Solomon character, who is Jed\u2014you get kind of an introduction into how his life began. You get a little bit of backstory\u2014the David and Bathsheba kind of prologue\u2014if you will. Then, when you move forward from there, it begins very quickly in Jed\u2019s development as an artist. He\u2019s frustrated with the huge shadow that is cast over him and his career in life, really. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Because his dad wrote a lot of songs. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>His dad was very successful, and he wrote a lot of songs.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>I see what you\u2019re doing there. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes. That\u2019s right. [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>But he made a lot of bad choices, as we\u2014certainly, as we see in Scripture as well. He has to live with those choices. Every person that he interacts with has kind of got this presupposition about him and where he came from. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, he\u2019s dealing with all of those things and frustrated about those things. It\u2019s certainly speaking into his artistry. He\u2019s kind of an angry artist and, certainly, dealing with some forgiveness issues and those things. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tPretty quickly into the story, he meets Rose, who ends up being his wife. He falls pretty quickly in love with her. From then, we get to kind of see their dating relationship; and then, they get married. Then, we see\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Now, wait. I\u2019ve just got to say, \u201cWhat was the town in Indiana that Rose was from?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>Sharon. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>Yes, I just thought we had to throw that in there. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>Yes, we have a lot of little\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You guys\u2014there\u2019s a lot of little stuff in there! [Laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>A lot of little gifts for those biblical scholars. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>So, it\u2019s fun to kind of watch those and pick up on those. There are still some that I don\u2019t know if everybody has caught onto them\u2014I keep waiting. I mean, obviously, I had an inside track. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>So, it\u2019ll be fun to see all that come to fruition. But he meets her \/ falls in love with her. They get married. And then, he writes a song that\u2014the film is called <em>The Song<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe is kind of a frustrated artist up until this point, and when he falls in love and meets Rose, that\u2019s kind of what unlocks his ability to write and to be an artist. So, he writes this song for her on their wedding night. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Not just any song. It is <em>the<\/em> song\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014of songs; right?\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>Well-done. This is going to be\u2014all day. I like this. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>Yes, he\u2019s picking it up. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>So, he writes this song that propels him to stardom. The rest of the story is about the struggles of that; right?\u2014the struggles of being away from your family and the priority of family, in light of his life\u2014but our lives, in general\u2014kind of regardless of what your life looks like. I think that\u2019s a balance. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019ve been married eight years, myself. Regardless of where we are at\u2014our phase of life\u2014there is always a balance of life\u2014or vocation or things that life is calling you to do\u2014versus your priority to your marriage and what that looks like. So, the rest of the film is about that struggle, really. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>In fact, there is a scene in the film\u2014and it was one of the most riveting scenes. Jed has come home from doing this very successful tour. He has had an opening artist, who has been with him on the tour. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe has started to experience a little bit of temptation because this opening artist started flirting with him and just kind of drawing him out a little bit. He comes home\u2014and without saying anything about the temptation to his wife\u2014he really wants her to come out on the road with him; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>He does, yes. He really kind of comes home and says: \u201cMan. Okay. This is a real struggle. Something is happening that I don\u2019t want to be happening.\u201d\u00a0 Matter of fact, he takes an overnight flight\u2014flies home. The first thing she asks him is \u201cDid something get canceled?\u201d\u00a0 He says, \u201cNo, I just had to come home.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd so, there is this story\u2014he\u2019s coming home, and he asks her to come with him. Literally, without saying it\u2014like you said, he begs her\u2014like: \u201cThere is something happening. I just need you to come out with me. I need you to be with me. I need\u2014this distance needs to go away.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat I really applaud about this story and this film is that it\u2019s not just a husband, who is gone all the time\u2014and, you know, poor victim wife. I think problems in relationships\u2014there are always two sides to every story, and everybody is playing their part. And she doesn\u2019t go with him. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tShe prioritizes something over their relationship\u2014in the same way that he does. To me, that brings a <em>real <\/em>sense of genuine struggle in a relationship. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>He goes back out on the road\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>He has to\u2014yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014and falls right into the temptations; doesn\u2019t he?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>Not yet; but he\u2019s\u2014it continues to progress. So, after that, it continues to progress. The temptation gets worse, and more, and stronger. Then, when he comes back again and asks her to go\u2014again, after that, she\u2019s still not doing that. Eventually, it gets to\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And I think you\u2019ve got to stop there. You\u2019re going to give away the whole plot. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>Good point. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You\u2019re\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Although I read the story\u2014I know where this things going!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes, you know what it is; but the point is\u2014you are dramatizing what a lot of people are facing in this temptation-rich world that we all live in. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tKyle, you rattled off several groups of people this is for\u2014for young people, teenagers growing up with a lot of temptations, for single people, for marrieds, for parents, for people who are busy\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014and then, who you star in the movie, Jed\u2014who is at the top of his game, reading his own press reports, full of himself, and steps off the edge of the cliff and makes some serious mistakes that really ultimately show the consequences of sin. That\u2019s what you are trying to do here\u2014is you are not trying to sugar-coat how our choices make an impact on our lives or others. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>Well, Solomon\u2019s life teaches us that we are free to make our choices; but we are not free to choose our consequences. We see that come full circle in his life, and that plays out in the movie. One of the things you see\u2014with the husband and wife dynamic, in the movie\u2014that I appreciated was the honest way they dealt with conflict. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think, to that end, it can help someone, who is not yet married, have some realistic expectations. One of the most dangerous threats to marriages today would be these unrealistic expectations\u2014again, in the same areas of sex, and money, and time. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI hope that it will help couples deal with some of these very real conflicts in a healthy way. I also hope that it will help people, who are not yet married, talk through some of these things before they get married. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>Kyle, one of the things I liked about the film was that, while it\u2019s portraying this songwriter writing the song of songs, we see him go into his Ecclesiastes phase in his life; don\u2019t we?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>Yes. This movie draws heavily upon Ecclesiastes, as well, which, of course, Ecclesiastes is kind of Solomon\u2019s journal. He talks about his pursuit to find meaning in life. Merging together his love story, in the Song of Solomon, and his journal, in Ecclesiastes\u2014it takes us on, I think, a very personal journey of Solomon\u2019s life. I don\u2019t know of two books that are more relevant to our culture today\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle:<\/strong> \u2014than the books of Ecclesiastes and Song of Solomon. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And what I want to applaud\u2014now, I already told you guys this; but I want our listeners to hear it too\u2014you guys did it really well. I mean, I don\u2019t like Christian-cheese. Somebody is saying, \u201cWhere do you buy Christian-cheese?\u201d\u00a0 I want to tell you, \u201cThere is a lot of places where Christian-cheese shows up!\u201d\u00a0 This movie is not Christian-cheese, and I love it that a church is producing it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>How were you involved in it\u2014because you don\u2019t have an acting role in the film; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>Then, it would get into the Christian-cheese. [Laughter]\u00a0 You don\u2019t want me acting. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>What was\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>He was in it, though. Don\u2019t sell yourself short, Kyle. I stood next to you for a whole day, I think, when we were filming this thing. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>I don\u2019t think I have any speaking lines. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You have a cameo in here, just like Hitchcock did in all of his movies. What was your participation in helping to shepherd this project?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>Well, initially, it was just getting it going. I just really <em>believed<\/em> in the message\u2014and in Ecclesiastes and the Song of Solomon to relate to people\u2019s lives.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd then\u2014in the storyline, initially, we talked through, \u201cHow can we maintain kind of the poetic dynamic of Song of Solomon in a movie today?\u201d\u00a0 In other words, if we are going to tell this as a modern-day retelling\u2014how can we keep some of that metaphor \/ some of the poetry that really makes things like love, and sex, and intimacy\u2014makes these things so beautiful\u2014how can we maintain that?\u00a0 That\u2019s when we began to develop the concept of a musician and how that could play in with poetry. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br>But from there, I didn\u2019t have a lot to do with it other than just working on the scripts and kind of giving my notes, and edits, and things like that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You were making sure, though, that the story was aligned with what the Scriptures teach. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>Right, and what we want to do\u2014like you\u2019ve talked about the Rose of Sharon\u2014we want it to be a movie where, if you are a Christian and you go see this movie, you\u2019re going to know what you are watching. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>There is going to be a lot of different connecting points, where you\u2019re like, \u201cOh, I can draw that line.\u201d\u00a0 But, if you are <em>not <\/em>a Christian and you are watching the movie, you don\u2019t realize what you\u2019re missing. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You\u2019re watching a movie about a country singer who\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014cheated on his wife; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>Yes. And it will\u2014and then, it will open the door to \u201cWell, here is the story from Scripture.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>We\u2019ve had some other movie producers, here on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>. I happen to know you guys, comparatively speaking, didn\u2019t spend as much money as Hollywood normally spends on a movie like this. In that production, God supplies some great talent \/ some great situations at some extremely low cost. You got any stories you could share with our listeners of how God provided?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>Let me jump in and just to say, \u201cGod provided Alan in that way.\u201d\u00a0 My only big concern before this movie\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Wait, wait. Free or ridiculously low\u2014which was it?\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>Not so much <em>free<\/em>, but the right person. You know\u2014my big concern, when we first put this script together is: \u201cIf we find someone who has the acting talent \/ the musical talent to play this role\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>They\u2019ve got to have the values too. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>\u2014\u201cand if they don\u2019t have the values\u2014if they are going to go out and talk on behalf of this movie, when it comes to love, and sex, and marriage, and that\u2019s not reflected in their life\u2014that we are going to get in trouble really quickly.\u201d\u00a0 I was a little skeptical because this role, that he plays, is so demanding. It requires a really unique gift-mix\u2014I just wasn\u2019t sure if that person was out there. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd so, when Alan\u2014when I first saw some of his reading and audition, I was just amazed that God had brought the right person for the right place\u2014to the right place at the right time. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Alan, how about your background?\u00a0 Have you done other feature films?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>No. This was my first film. The story of how God kind of brought this all together, to me, is such an example of His providence\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014and kind of speaking to what you\u2019re talking about. I\u2019m not going to say whether or not it was this super-talented performance\u2014but I will say that I remember getting the email. I had an agency there in Nashville\u2014that was a film agent\u2014but I had never done any acting. I was in Nashville for music, and\u2014maybe you guys have had something like this happen in your life, where you just kind of knew. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI went to the audition\u2014and everything\u2014from the guy, behind me canceling and not showing up, so I had an extra 30 minutes with the casting director. We talked about our faith, and we talked about family. We talked about everything except the audition for half an hour. Finally, she was like, \u201cWell, I guess we should read something.\u201d\u00a0 I finally just read the audition. At the callback, I got to meet the director, and the executive producers, and the guy who is in charge of music. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI definitely didn\u2019t feel equipped enough \/ talented enough, if you will; but I did know that I was supposed to be the guy. So, there was a confidence, going into that, knowing that God had me there for a reason\u2014that certainly wasn\u2019t in me and my ability because I\u2019d never done it before\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014but just the confidence to know too that God had me at that time and that place with those people for that role because I feel like He always asks us to do things that are above and beyond what we can do so that people will know it was Him. That was certainly a big experience for me. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes, He wants to stretch our faith muscle. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alan: <\/strong>Yes, absolutely. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>He really does. I think you guys are to be applauded for your courage and stepping out. I want to challenge our listeners to\u2014first of all, those of you who have complained about movies not coming out that reinforce the values that you hold in your marriages \/ your family, that you were raised around\u2014here is your chance to go vote, with a ten dollar bill, and take some other folks with you, and vote for this movie, and enjoy it. I promise you\u2014you will. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou\u2019re going to hear a very important message out of that movie\u2014and that is, there is a payday someday. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>21:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThis movie paints life\u2014warts, scars, blemishes, and all\u2014and it is a great reminder that we are accountable to God for our choices. If we didn\u2019t learn it from the story of David in the Bible, we\u2019re going to hear it in a fresh way from you guys. Thanks for sharing that story. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>And I think the nice part of the story, as well, is that it holds the promise of redemption. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>My prayer is that this movie would deal honestly with a lot of the struggles we may face in marriage, but it would also fill us with hope that it\u2019s not too late\u2014\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kyle: <\/strong>\u2014that as broken as things may seem, right now\u2014that God has the power to put the pieces back together. My favorite thing about God is that He can redeem anything. In all things, He can work together for good.
