We\u2019re going to talk today about how young single women can do battle with lust. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>1:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tStay tuned. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd welcome to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>. Thanks for joining us. How often are you consciously aware\u2014do you think\u2014of the fact that life is lived out in the midst of spiritual battle?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I don\u2019t think enough. I honestly believe most of us, as followers of Christ, are a little na\u00efve about the spiritual battle that is swirling around us. Barbara and I were talking about that over the weekend. I just said: \u201cYou know, I\u2019m just looking at what\u2019s taking place in our lives\u2014and you just wonder, \u2018What percent of this is our own stupidity \/ our own flesh?\u00a0 What part is the world, and what part of the battle we\u2019re in is a spiritual battle of an enemy that wants to take us out?\u2019\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd we\u2019ve got a guest with us who has been a part of that spiritual battle. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tMarian Jordan Ellis joins us again on the broadcast. Marian, welcome back. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Marian: <\/strong>It\u2019s great to be here. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>She and her husband Justin live in San Antonio. Go Spurs!\u00a0 I\u2019ll say it before Bob does. [Laughter]\u00a0 She is the founder of Redeemed Girl Ministries. In fact, why don\u2019t you explain to our listeners what Redeemed Girl Ministries is all about?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Marian: <\/strong>Well, we like to say that Redeemed Girl\u2014it\u2019s not an age\u2014it\u2019s an identity. It\u2019s about women being transformed by the love and grace of Jesus Christ. And the word, redeemed, means to buy something back and restore it to its original intent. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI firmly believe that there are two paths a life can take. God says that He has a plan that no eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind can conceive for those who love Him. But you know what? The enemy also has an agenda to steal, kill, and destroy. I believe Jesus specializes in redeeming girls whom the enemy has taken captive. So, we provide resources, podcasts, teaching, events\u2014all types of things\u2014to focus on those women whose lives need to be transformed by the grace and love of Jesus Christ. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And that\u2019s why you also wrote the book, <em>Sex and the Single Christian Girl<\/em>. You tell a story, in the book, about a young lady who was standing in line, after you spoke, to speak with you\u2014who had gone to college. Share with our listeners how she got side-swiped in the spiritual battle. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Marian: <\/strong>Absolutely. So, Dennis, I do an event called <em>Girl\u2019s Night Out<\/em>, which is an evangelistic event on college campuses. I partner a great deal with Campus Crusade and other ministries. Oftentimes, I will be meeting with women who accepted Christ that night; but what I\u2019ve increasingly seen is that there will be a line at my book table of other girls. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne night, there was a girl, in particular, at a very famous campus in the South\u2014that is kind of one of your golden Bible belt schools. She was at my table, just weeping her eyes out. From the outside, she looked like every parent\u2019s dream. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tShe was beautiful. She was polished. She had 4.0 written all over her. She says to me: \u201cI know Jesus. I\u2019ve been raised in the church. My dad took me to my purity ball. I grew up on <em>Veggie Tales<\/em> and <em>True Love Waits<\/em>, and I spend the night every night at my boyfriend\u2019s apartment. I put my purity ring on his bedside table.\u201d\u00a0 She said, \u201cI do not know how I got here, and I do not know how to get out of here.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat night I realized, \u201cThere is a war going on over God\u2019s daughters.\u201d\u00a0 I\u2019d experienced it enough myself, but I thought maybe it\u2019s just me\u2014maybe this war is just my war. Then, I began to see that the majority of women with whom I talk to are girls who have accepted the gospel\u2014they\u2019ve accepted Jesus\u2014they know what the Bible says, but they do not know how to live out this life of purity. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, they are stuck in shame and failure; and they feel defeated. Then, they begin to listen to the lies of the enemy and say, \u201cYou might as well keep on doing it.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>What are those lies?\u00a0 What takes a young woman, who wants to be pure, to head into compromise?\u00a0 What\u2019s she believing that she\u2019s\u2014what\u2019s she falling for?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Marian: <\/strong>You know Stu Weber said that every Christian is a walking battlefield. I think we need to realize that we have a battle on three fronts. We have the world that we live in\u2014which is the culture that says: \u201cIt\u2019s just sex. It\u2019s no big deal.\u201d\u00a0 And every day, it gets worse. So, we have that part of the battlefield. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, we have our own flesh. As Christians, we have to recognize that we are indwelt by the Holy Spirit\u2014which makes us the temple of God\u2014but we also have our old sinful nature that we have to deal with. Then, finally, I believe we also have the enemy\u2014who is strategic, and seductive, and who targets temptations at believers to get them to detour from God\u2019s plan and God\u2019s will.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tFor me, coming to realize that these battlefields exist helped me understand that a girl\u2019s just not like Brittany Spears and saying, \u201cOops, I did it.\u201d\u00a0 There was something going on in her life that led to that moment, and her being unaware of the battle does not excuse her from the war. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>And I guess the question is: \u201cWhat is typically going on?\u00a0 What\u2019s the subtly?\u00a0 What\u2019s the bullet the enemy is firing\u2014or the thing in our flesh that he\u2019s appealing to?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Marian: <\/strong>Okay, so, several things. I would say, first of all, the Bible teaches us that we have to have renewed minds. When a Christian girl has a relationship with God, but her mind is not constantly being renewed by God\u2019s Word, she\u2019s very susceptible to the lies which are Satan\u2019s temptations to lead us into sin. I would say that would be the entry point\u2014is the mind. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut there is also, what I would say, the soft fertile ground of a woman\u2019s identity\u2014that if that\u2019s not formed and shaped\u2014it makes an easy access point for the enemy to come in with those lies which would lure her away. So, in the world\u2014where a girl is believing that her identity is as a sexual object\u2014it doesn\u2019t matter if she is a redeemed daughter of God\u2014but if she sees herself the way the world sees her: \u201cThis is what makes me lovable if I\u2019m desired sexually,\u201d\u2014then, in the moment of temptation, what the enemy\u2019s going to do is target that place of insecurity in her so that she will be led into sexual sin. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>One of the things you do in your book is you quote John MacArthur on temptation\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Marian: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014and I just think this is worth repeating right here. John MacArthur said, \u201cEvery temptation directly or indirectly is the temptation to doubt and distrust God.\u201d\u00a0 You go on to say: \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cSatan taunts us: \u2018Obedience to God\u2019s command keeps you from the desires of your heart. True happiness can be found in this detour.\u2019\u00a0 He\u2019s tempting us to get off track and to go in search of happiness and fulfillment without God.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Marian: <\/strong>Absolutely. Can I be vulnerable for a minute?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Sure. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Marian: <\/strong>I came to Christ at 25, and I <em>fell<\/em> in love with Jesus\u2014and I\u2019m saying like butterflies \/ goose pimples. I <em>loved<\/em> Jesus. I wanted everything in my being to honor God with my body. It was a no-brainer for me. I had come out of that darkness, and I was single-minded\u2014vision on Jesus. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI never thought purity would be a struggle for me. Can I be honest?\u00a0 I\u2019m saying that was probably spiritual pride because I\u2019d lived in the darkness\u2014I\u2019m, now, living in the light. I thought, \u201cI\u2019m going to sail to my wedding day and never think twice about this,\u201d because I honestly loved God. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut being single for 15 years after I trusted Christ\u2014I didn\u2019t get married until I was 38\u2014I went through several relationships. While my love for God did give me that passion and desire to live for Him, the struggle became real because I, too, have flesh. I, too, live in the world. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Marian: <\/strong>I, too, face temptation. It wasn\u2019t until I met my husband that I began to realize there is something going on outside of me that does not want me to honor God. There is something else that\u2019s going on here. Then, I was reading God\u2019s Word. I was in my quiet time; and I was reading 1 Peter, Chapter 2\u2014which I had probably read this passage a hundred times. In this passage, Peter says\u2014you know, his famous words\u2014\u201cBut you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation of people for God\u2019s own possession.\u201d\u00a0 So, he begins to tell God\u2019s people again: \u201cThis is who you are. This is who you are.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe keeps going on to describe this world we live in that\u2019s darkness and how we are going to be tempted and buffeted by temptations. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, the money verse for me was this\u2014he said, \u201cBeloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts which\u201d\u2014wait for it\u2014\u201cwage war against your soul.\u201d\u00a0 I read that verse, and it\u2019s like the light bulb went on. God let me see that this battle over sexual purity was a war that was being waged over my soul. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, I didn\u2019t just see it for myself. I began to see it for every woman of my generation. If the enemy can\u2019t take our salvation, he sure wants to take our destinies. He sure wants to take our marriages. He sure wants to take our lives. What an easy way to do that\u2014is to detour God\u2019s daughters into sexual sin. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI realized: \u201cI am fighting something greater than just my own flesh here. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cI am fighting something greater than just the rom-com world that wants to brainwash me. There is an agenda\u2014an agenda\u2014 that wants to detour me into this.\u201d\u00a0 Then, I realized: \u201cI\u2019ve got to wise up and fight. It\u2019s those wars who want to wage war against your soul.\u201d\u00a0 You know what?\u00a0 I lived in his prison camp; and I said: \u201cNot again!\u00a0 I\u2019m not going back.\u201d\u00a0 So, I dug into this Bible. God began to reveal to me what this war looks like and how to win it by His power and His truth.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>One of the ways you chose to fight the war was to identify those lies\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Marian: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014that you had women articulating to you that they had believed. In our time remaining, let\u2019s just quickly go through these lies and share with our listeners: \u201cWhat is the enemy\u2019s strategy?\u201d because I think we don\u2019t realize what\u2019s coming at us. If we can spot the lie, when it\u2019s stated, we can call it what it is. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut if we are unaware, then, we can be caught off guard by these lies. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Marian: <\/strong>When Satan came to Eve, he didn\u2019t come to her with a fishing hook. He came to her with an idea \/ a proposition\u2014her mind. That\u2019s exactly what he still does today. He comes with thoughts in our mind\u2014and those are from culture \/ from everything else\u2014but every temptation begins in the mind. So, when I began to categorize these lies that women believe\u2014and the ones that I was, as a Bible-teaching Christian author \/ speaker\u2014hearing myself, as I was dating, as a Christian woman\u2014I began to recognize what his lies were. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe first one, I would say, is: \u201cBut we\u2019re in love. So, it\u2019s okay.\u201d\u00a0 You know, I\u2014I remember meeting my husband \/ becoming my fianc\u00e9 and beginning to doubt: \u201cDid God really say that sex outside of marriage is wrong?\u00a0 We love each other.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, I would stop and think: \u201cAm I being possessed. What\u2019s going on here?\u00a0 I know what God\u2019s Word says. Where did that thought come from?\u201d\u00a0 It\u2019s this strong, powerful suggestion that says: \u201cBut you\u2019re in love. But you\u2019re in love, and that\u2019s what people in love do.\u201d\u00a0 I have to stop and go: \u201cNo, God didn\u2019t say love was the standard. God said a covenant was the standard.\u201d\u00a0 But it was so subtle and so strong that I had to realize: \u201cThat\u2019s not from me\u2014that is coming from somewhere.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And then, the second lie comes\u2014that you write about: \u201cBut we\u2019re going to get married someday.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Marian: <\/strong>Right. And especially as women are getting engaged\u2014or even telling themselves that. A lot of girls will tell, \u201cWell, if we\u2019re sexual activity, he\u2019ll marry me.\u201d\u00a0 I think that\u2019s common for Christian girls to tell themselves that\u2014to make themselves feel better about it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut one of the biggest lies in our culture\u2014our culture has rewritten sex, of course. We know that because sex was designed to be an image of the covenant of God and a picture of our relationship. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s a\u2014you know, marriage is so under attack by the enemy. So, what sex is\u2014the enemy hates God\u2019s design. So, one of the biggest lies that women hear today is: \u201cSex is not that big of a deal.\u201d\u00a0 So, women have to learn what God\u2019s design is \/ what God\u2019s design for covenant is\u2014and in that\u2014that\u2019s a strong, powerful stance against the lie of the enemy. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>I think there are a lot of young women who are believing: \u201cIf I don\u2019t compromise in this area, I\u2019ll lose this guy\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Marian: <\/strong>Absolutely. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014\u201cand I really don\u2019t want to lose this guy. I don\u2019t want to lose what I\u2019m enjoying from this relationship.\u201d\u00a0 So, they\u2019ll give in just to try to keep the benefits\u2014whatever those benefits of the relationship are. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Marian: <\/strong>Yes. A lot of those benefits are their own emotional security and the identity they are deriving from that person. And for me, it began to be a litmus test for the type of man I wanted. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf a guy was going to expect sex before marriage\u2014and a lot of so-called Christian guys do\u2014then, that told me the type of man I was getting. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>So, a young woman, who\u2019s showing up at the singles group at her church and thinking, \u201cThis is a safe place\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Marian: <\/strong>Oh, that\u2019s so dangerous!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014\u201cbecause I\u2019m here with Christian guys.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Marian: <\/strong>Right. And I saw a lot of new girls getting eaten up by wolves that way. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>What\u2019s the deal with the guys?\u00a0 I mean, maybe you need to write that book; huh?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Well, having had a few conferences for Christian singles\u2014I can tell you there are guys who know where to find the quality women. They come to a church single group or to a single conference. They can masquerade for a weekend or for a Sunday as a \u201cfollower of Christ,\u201d but it doesn\u2019t take long for their real motives and their real character to be revealed. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Marian: <\/strong>And I just want to give a shout out to the good guys out there who love Jesus. My husband was one and went dateless for a long time when he was a high school and college guy\u2014who did love Jesus and did want purity. This may be a longer conversation than we have time for\u2014but a lot of women don\u2019t like the good guys\u2014and a lot of Christian women too. And\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>What do you mean by that?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Marian: <\/strong>It\u2019s back to that brainwashing of the mind that I was talking about earlier. This is a longer conversation\u2014but when you have been fed the lie that you are trash\u2014that when a guy begins to be kind, and honoring, and gentle, and Christ-like\u2014the girl who has come from the world, who is now a believer, does not know how to respond to that. I will say that God had to do a renewing of my mind but also a healing in my heart to be able to receive a pure and Christ-like love from a godly man and to not reject that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think a lot of women, who come to Christ later in life, have that same kind of baggage. So, they are in the church too. They are being pursued by godly men who do want to honor them, but they don\u2019t know how to receive that. And I would say to a woman listening, who\u2014maybe you find yourself in that category\u2014there is probably some work of healing that God wants to do in your heart so that you could see yourself as a beloved daughter who is worthy of being treated in a good way by a godly man. I had to go through that kind of healing in my life. I am in a marriage that is a miracle today because the girl I was at 25 would never have married a godly man like this. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou know, there are wolves in every congregation, but there are also good guys in every congregation. I would say\u2014for me\u2014prayer and discernment would be the two biggest tools I would suggest for godly women\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014prayer that you would be protected\u2014you know Jesus tells us to pray that we would not be led into temptation\u2014so, prayer. And discernment\u2014to watch a man\u2019s character and to value yourself enough in Christ that you would be willing to wait for God\u2019s best. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Don\u2019t you think that godly guys sometimes look boring or just not very exciting?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Marian: <\/strong>And I think that\u2019s part of that\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>That brainwashing?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>The good guy.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Marian: <\/strong>Yes, the good guy. And I\u2019m a champion of the good guys. My favorite movie is <em>It\u2019s a Wonderful Life<\/em>. I like to tell people I married George Bailey. I want to champion the good guys out there who love God and who are trying to do it right. I believe in them. You know? [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You just mentioned the magic word. If there was\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong><em>It\u2019s a Wonderful Life<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014<em>Wonderful Life<\/em>. There\u2019s this thing that comes down from the ceiling because Bob\u2019s only seen it about 578 times there. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes, we\u2019re together on that one. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>We just gave each other five. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLet me just read this passage just to remind our listeners what God thinks about what we\u2019re talking about here. It\u2019s in 1 Corinthians 6, verse 18: \u201cFlee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit within you whom you have from God?\u00a0 You are not your own for you were bought with a price. So, glorify God in your body.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s the call. That\u2019s the vision. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>And the truth is\u2014I can\u2019t hear anyone quote that verse anymore without this song popping up in my head from <em>Passport2Purity<\/em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup>. In fact, Keith, cue up the song if you would. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen we put together the <em>Passport2Purity<\/em> resource for parents to use with their preteens to help address these issues of purity before adolescence comes around, we thought, \u201cWouldn\u2019t it be great if some of these key verses from Scripture would get lodged in our head because of music?\u201d\u00a0 So, we went to our friends at Seeds Family Worship. So, we provide resources, podcasts, teaching, events\u2014all types of things\u2014to focus on those women whose lives need to be transformed by the grace and love of Jesus Christ. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And that\u2019s why you also wrote the book, <em>Sex and the Single Christian Girl<\/em>. You tell a story, in the book, about a young lady who was standing in line, after you spoke, to speak with you\u2014who had gone to college. Share with our listeners how she got side-swiped in the spiritual battle. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Marian: <\/strong>Absolutely. So, Dennis, I do an event called <em>Girl\u2019s Night Out<\/em>, which is an evangelistic event on college campuses. I partner a great deal with Campus Crusade and other ministries. Oftentimes, I will be meeting with women who accepted Christ that night; but what I\u2019ve increasingly seen is that there will be a line at my book table of other girls. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne night, there was a girl, in particular, at a very famous campus in the South\u2014that is kind of one of your golden Bible belt schools. She was at my table, just weeping her eyes out. From the outside, she looked like every parent\u2019s dream. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tShe was beautiful. She was polished. She had 4.0 written all over her. She says to me: \u201cI know Jesus. I\u2019ve been raised in the church. My dad took me to my purity ball. I grew up on <em>Veggie Tales<\/em> and <em>True Love Waits<\/em>, and I spend the night every night at my boyfriend\u2019s apartment. I put my purity ring on his bedside table.\u201d\u00a0 She said, \u201cI do not know how I got here, and I do not know how to get out of here.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat night I realized, \u201cThere is a war going on over God\u2019s daughters.\u201d\u00a0 I\u2019d experienced it enough myself, but I thought maybe it\u2019s just me\u2014maybe this war is just my war. Then, I began to see that the majority of women with whom I talk to are girls who have accepted the gospel\u2014they\u2019ve accepted Jesus\u2014they know what the Bible says, but they do not know how to live out this life of purity. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, they are stuck in shame and failure; and they feel defeated. Then, they begin to listen to the lies of the enemy and say, \u201cYou might as well keep on doing it.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>What are those lies?\u00a0 What takes a young woman, who wants to be pure, to head into compromise?\u00a0 What\u2019s she believing that she\u2019s\u2014what\u2019s she falling for?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Marian: <\/strong>You know Stu Weber said that every Christian is a walking battlefield. I think we need to realize that we have a battle on three fronts. We have the world that we live in\u2014which is the culture that says: \u201cIt\u2019s just sex. It\u2019s no big deal.\u201d\u00a0 And every day, it gets worse. So, we have that part of the battlefield. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, we have our own flesh. As Christians, we have to recognize that we are indwelt by the Holy Spirit\u2014which makes us the temple of God\u2014but we also have our old sinful nature that we have to deal with. Then, finally, I believe we also have the enemy\u2014who is strategic, and seductive, and who targets temptations at believers to get them to detour from God\u2019s plan and God\u2019s will.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tFor me, coming to realize that these battlefields exist helped me understand that a girl\u2019s just not like Brittany Spears and saying, \u201cOops, I did it.\u201d\u00a0 There was something going on in her life that led to that moment, and her being unaware of the battle does not excuse her from the war. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>And I guess the question is: \u201cWhat is typically going on?\u00a0 What\u2019s the subtly?\u00a0 What\u2019s the bullet the enemy is firing\u2014or the thing in our flesh that he\u2019s appealing to?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Marian: <\/strong>Okay, so, several things. I would say, first of all, the Bible teaches us that we have to have renewed minds. When a Christian girl has a relationship with God, but her mind is not constantly being renewed by God\u2019s Word, she\u2019s very susceptible to the lies which are Satan\u2019s temptations to lead us into sin. I would say that would be the entry point\u2014is the mind. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut there is also, what I would say, the soft fertile ground of a woman\u2019s identity\u2014that if that\u2019s not formed and shaped\u2014it makes an easy access point for the enemy to come in with those lies which would lure her away. So, in the world\u2014where a girl is believing that her identity is as a sexual object\u2014it doesn\u2019t matter if she is a redeemed daughter of God\u2014but if she sees herself the way the world sees her: \u201cThis is what makes me lovable if I\u2019m desired sexually,\u201d\u2014then, in the moment of temptation, what the enemy\u2019s going to do is target that place of insecurity in her so that she will be led into sexual sin. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>One of the things you do in your book is you quote John MacArthur on temptation\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Marian: <\/strong>Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014and I just think this is worth repeating right here. John MacArthur said, \u201cEvery temptation directly or indirectly is the temptation to doubt and distrust God.\u201d\u00a0 You go on to say: \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cSatan taunts us: \u2018Obedience to God\u2019s command keeps you from the desires of your heart. True happiness can be found in this detour.\u2019\u00a0 He\u2019s tempting us to get off track and to go in search of happiness and fulfillment without God.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Marian: <\/strong>Absolutely. Can I be vulnerable for a minute?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Sure. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Marian: <\/strong>I came to Christ at 25, and I <em>fell<\/em> in love with Jesus\u2014and I\u2019m saying like butterflies \/ goose pimples. I <em>loved<\/em> Jesus. I wanted everything in my being to honor God with my body. It was a no-brainer for me. I had come out of that darkness, and I was single-minded\u2014vision on Jesus. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI never thought purity would be a struggle for me. Can I be honest?\u00a0 I\u2019m saying that was probably spiritual pride because I\u2019d lived in the darkness\u2014I\u2019m, now, living in the light. I thought, \u201cI\u2019m going to sail to my wedding day and never think twice about this,\u201d because I honestly loved God. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut being single for 15 years after I trusted Christ\u2014I didn\u2019t get married until I was 38\u2014I went through several relationships. While my love for God did give me that passion and desire to live for Him, the struggle became real because I, too, have flesh. I, too, live in the world. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Marian: <\/strong>I, too, face temptation. It wasn\u2019t until I met my husband that I began to realize there is something going on outside of me that does not want me to honor God. There is something else that\u2019s going on here. Then, I was reading God\u2019s Word. I was in my quiet time; and I was reading 1 Peter, Chapter 2\u2014which I had probably read this passage a hundred times. In this passage, Peter says\u2014you know, his famous words\u2014\u201cBut you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation of people for God\u2019s own possession.\u201d\u00a0 So, he begins to tell God\u2019s people again: \u201cThis is who you are. This is who you are.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe keeps going on to describe this world we live in that\u2019s darkness and how we are going to be tempted and buffeted by temptations. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, the money verse for me was this\u2014he said, \u201cBeloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts which\u201d\u2014wait for it\u2014\u201cwage war against your soul.\u201d\u00a0 I read that verse, and it\u2019s like the light bulb went on. God let me see that this battle over sexual purity was a war that was being waged over my soul. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, I didn\u2019t just see it for myself. I began to see it for every woman of my generation. If the enemy can\u2019t take our salvation, he sure wants to take our destinies. He sure wants to take our marriages. He sure wants to take our lives. What an easy way to do that\u2014is to detour God\u2019s daughters into sexual sin. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI realized: \u201cI am fighting something greater than just my own flesh here. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cI am fighting something greater than just the rom-com world that wants to brainwash me. There is an agenda\u2014an agenda\u2014 that wants to detour me into this.\u201d\u00a0 Then, I realized: \u201cI\u2019ve got to wise up and fight. It\u2019s those wars who want to wage war against your soul.\u201d\u00a0 You know what?\u00a0 I lived in his prison camp; and I said: \u201cNot again!\u00a0 I\u2019m not going back.\u201d\u00a0 So, I dug into this Bible. God began to reveal to me what this war looks like and how to win it by His power and His truth.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>One of the ways you chose to fight the war was to identify those lies\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Marian: <\/strong>Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014that you had women articulating to you that they had believed. In our time remaining, let\u2019s just quickly go through these lies and share with our listeners: \u201cWhat is the enemy\u2019s strategy?\u201d because I think we don\u2019t realize what\u2019s coming at us. If we can spot the lie, when it\u2019s stated, we can call it what it is. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut if we are unaware, then, we can be caught off guard by these lies. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Marian: <\/strong>When Satan came to Eve, he didn\u2019t come to her with a fishing hook. He came to her with an idea \/ a proposition\u2014her mind. That\u2019s exactly what he still does today. He comes with thoughts in our mind\u2014and those are from culture \/ from everything else\u2014but every temptation begins in the mind. So, when I began to categorize these lies that women believe\u2014and the ones that I was, as a Bible-teaching Christian author \/ speaker\u2014hearing myself, as I was dating, as a Christian woman\u2014I began to recognize what his lies were. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe first one, I would say, is: \u201cBut we\u2019re in love. So, it\u2019s okay.\u201d\u00a0 You know, I\u2014I remember meeting my husband \/ becoming my fianc\u00e9 and beginning to doubt: \u201cDid God really say that sex outside of marriage is wrong?\u00a0 We love each other.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, I would stop and think: \u201cAm I being possessed. What\u2019s going on here?\u00a0 I know what God\u2019s Word says. Where did that thought come from?\u201d\u00a0 It\u2019s this strong, powerful suggestion that says: \u201cBut you\u2019re in love. But you\u2019re in love, and that\u2019s what people in love do.\u201d\u00a0 I have to stop and go: \u201cNo, God didn\u2019t say love was the standard. God said a covenant was the standard.\u201d\u00a0 But it was so subtle and so strong that I had to realize: \u201cThat\u2019s not from me\u2014that is coming from somewhere.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And then, the second lie comes\u2014that you write about: \u201cBut we\u2019re going to get married someday.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Marian: <\/strong>Right. And especially as women are getting engaged\u2014or even telling themselves that. A lot of girls will tell, \u201cWell, if we\u2019re sexual activity, he\u2019ll marry me.\u201d\u00a0 I think that\u2019s common for Christian girls to tell themselves that\u2014to make themselves feel better about it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut one of the biggest lies in our culture\u2014our culture has rewritten sex, of course. We know that because sex was designed to be an image of the covenant of God and a picture of our relationship. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s a\u2014you know, marriage is so under attack by the enemy. So, what sex is\u2014the enemy hates God\u2019s design. So, one of the biggest lies that women hear today is: \u201cSex is not that big of a deal.\u201d\u00a0 So, women have to learn what God\u2019s design is \/ what God\u2019s design for covenant is\u2014and in that\u2014that\u2019s a strong, powerful stance against the lie of the enemy. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>I think there are a lot of young women who are believing: \u201cIf I don\u2019t compromise in this area, I\u2019ll lose this guy\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Marian: <\/strong>Absolutely. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014\u201cand I really don\u2019t want to lose this guy. I don\u2019t want to lose what I\u2019m enjoying from this relationship.\u201d\u00a0 So, they\u2019ll give in just to try to keep the benefits\u2014whatever those benefits of the relationship are. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Marian: <\/strong>Yes. A lot of those benefits are their own emotional security and the identity they are deriving from that person. And for me, it began to be a litmus test for the type of man I wanted. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf a guy was going to expect sex before marriage\u2014and a lot of so-called Christian guys do\u2014then, that told me the type of man I was getting. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>So, a young woman, who\u2019s showing up at the singles group at her church and thinking, \u201cThis is a safe place\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Marian: <\/strong>Oh, that\u2019s so dangerous!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014\u201cbecause I\u2019m here with Christian guys.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Marian: <\/strong>Right. And I saw a lot of new girls getting eaten up by wolves that way. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>What\u2019s the deal with the guys?\u00a0 I mean, maybe you need to write that book; huh?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Well, having had a few conferences for Christian singles\u2014I can tell you there are guys who know where to find the quality women. They come to a church single group or to a single conference. They can masquerade for a weekend or for a Sunday as a \u201cfollower of Christ,\u201d but it doesn\u2019t take long for their real motives and their real character to be revealed. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Marian: <\/strong>And I just want to give a shout out to the good guys out there who love Jesus. My husband was one and went dateless for a long time when he was a high school and college guy\u2014who did love Jesus and did want purity. This may be a longer conversation than we have time for\u2014but a lot of women don\u2019t like the good guys\u2014and a lot of Christian women too. And\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>What do you mean by that?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Marian: <\/strong>It\u2019s back to that brainwashing of the mind that I was talking about earlier. This is a longer conversation\u2014but when you have been fed the lie that you are trash\u2014that when a guy begins to be kind, and honoring, and gentle, and Christ-like\u2014the girl who has come from the world, who is now a believer, does not know how to respond to that. I will say that God had to do a renewing of my mind but also a healing in my heart to be able to receive a pure and Christ-like love from a godly man and to not reject that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think a lot of women, who come to Christ later in life, have that same kind of baggage. So, they are in the church too. They are being pursued by godly men who do want to honor them, but they don\u2019t know how to receive that. And I would say to a woman listening, who\u2014maybe you find yourself in that category\u2014there is probably some work of healing that God wants to do in your heart so that you could see yourself as a beloved daughter who is worthy of being treated in a good way by a godly man. I had to go through that kind of healing in my life. I am in a marriage that is a miracle today because the girl I was at 25 would never have married a godly man like this. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou know, there are wolves in every congregation, but there are also good guys in every congregation. I would say\u2014for me\u2014prayer and discernment would be the two biggest tools I would suggest for godly women\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014prayer that you would be protected\u2014you know Jesus tells us to pray that we would not be led into temptation\u2014so, prayer. And discernment\u2014to watch a man\u2019s character and to value yourself enough in Christ that you would be willing to wait for God\u2019s best. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Don\u2019t you think that godly guys sometimes look boring or just not very exciting?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Marian: <\/strong>And I think that\u2019s part of that\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>That brainwashing?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>The good guy.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Marian: <\/strong>Yes, the good guy. And I\u2019m a champion of the good guys. My favorite movie is <em>It\u2019s a Wonderful Life<\/em>. I like to tell people I married George Bailey. I want to champion the good guys out there who love God and who are trying to do it right. I believe in them. You know? [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You just mentioned the magic word. If there was\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong><em>It\u2019s a Wonderful Life<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014<em>Wonderful Life<\/em>. There\u2019s this thing that comes down from the ceiling because Bob\u2019s only seen it about 578 times there. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes, we\u2019re together on that one. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>We just gave each other five. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLet me just read this passage just to remind our listeners what God thinks about what we\u2019re talking about here. It\u2019s in 1 Corinthians 6, verse 18: \u201cFlee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.
