You cheered for Barbara. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I did cheer for Barbara, but you were encouraging women to cheer for their husbands. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00 <\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Anyway, welcome to our broadcast. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Thank you so much for having me. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Well, Robyn is a good friend. She and her husband, Ray, have spoken at our <em>Weekend to Remember<\/em> marriage getaways for almost 20 years. They\u2019ve been married for 25. So, you\u2019ve got the silver now. You\u2019re going for the gold. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> We are going for the gold. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Go for the gold. Now, here\u2019s what I want our audience to know\u2014this is a woman of great experience. She has 10 children\u201410 children. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> I have 10 children. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> In her spare time, she speaks at the <em>Weekend to Remember<\/em>. [Laughter] Now, when she speaks, there is a lot of reality. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Just to get away from the kids\u2014she speaks at the <em>Weekend to Remember<\/em>. In fact, she calls us from time to time and says: \u201cCan I speak at one of the conferences? I need a weekend away.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> You guys, I love my kids! So, you are not supposed to say that out loud. [Laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> We know you love your kids; but she has written a book called <em>Say It Loud!: Becoming Your Husband\u2019s Personal Cheerleader<\/em>. Now, how did you come upon this theme? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBecause I think it\u2019s a good one, I really do. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> I just believe that God has so given to a husband and a wife support. As a wife, I want to be Ray\u2019s personal cheerleader. I love sports. In my family room, I go crazy when my team is winning. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Who is your team? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> I love the Heat. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> The Miami Heat. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> The Miami Heat. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Okay, this interview is now concluded. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> I\u2019m sorry. Lebron\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Bob is a Spur fan. So, you just hurt him bad. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> This is sad. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Well, anyway, what you are really talking about here is Ephesians 5, verse 33. It begins by addressing husbands. It says, \u201cHowever, let each one of you love his wife as himself.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I think it\u2019s important that it begins with the husband; but the passage goes on to say, \u201cAnd let the wife see that she respects\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Respects, yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014\u201cher husband.\u201d Cheerleading, in its essence\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> It is. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014is a multi-faceted cheerleader on behalf of your husband. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Again, how did you come to be a cheerleader? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Well, back in the day\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Back\u2014this would be about 1980 East High\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Well, yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014Kansas City? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> East High School, Kansas City, Missouri\u2014rah, rah! Do you want the song? [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> If I had the yearbook, your picture would be in the yearbook\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Yes, it would. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014in the uniform? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Let me tell you\u2014my senior year, I was the mascot. So, I was the East High Bear. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Wow! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Oh. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Oh, yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> So, you, probably\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Tons of fun. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You\u2014so, you were dancing on the sidelines. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Doing it all\u2014rallying the troops. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> And how was the team? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> The team was pathetic! [Laughter] But that had nothing to do with us. We had a blast on the field. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> So, you are here, cheering\u2014I mean, it\u2019s got to be hard\u2014in the fourth quarter, down by 20 points\u2014and you\u2019re out there trying to get the fans to cheer the team, and you know there are not going to win. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Well, let me just say this\u2014even back then and even today, I think God is a miracle-working God. [Laughter] So, He can pull out 20 points in a five-minute time. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00 <\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Alright. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> He can do that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> That\u2019s how big He is. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> So, to cheer for Ray, when did that concept occur to you\u2014after five kids\u2014ten kids? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> You know, I think it\u2019s <em>still<\/em> occurring to me. I just\u2014I think when God gave me Ray\u2014I was the one who was never getting married. I was never getting married, I was never having children, and I was never going to be a Christian. Those were some things I didn\u2019t want to be because I grew up in a home of a pastor. I thought every Christian was a hypocrite. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Wow. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> So, when you see that\u2014when doctrine is messed up, when lives are all about bowing down to the preacher because the preacher is all that\u2014then, you have problems with the kids. I left home saying: \u201cThat is not what I want. I don\u2019t ever want a man telling me what to do.\u201d So, for this transformation to happen, only God could do that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Okay, well, I\u2019ve got to hear about this transformation happening, though. What\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> At 21 years old\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> \u2014when I was, back then, a computer operator and programmer. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00 <\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI <em>loved<\/em> technology, and I was so busy with the beeper\u2014back then, they had the beeper. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> And so, I was always on call. I worked, and I supervised computer operations for a huge corporation. Make a long story short\u2014I was exhausted. I felt like: \u201cLord! This is not worth it.\u201d So, I said, \u201cLet me try You.\u201d But one of the things I didn\u2019t want to happen is\u2014I didn\u2019t want <em>anyone<\/em> to tell me anything. If I\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Well, that\u2019s a bit of a problem if you\u2019re\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Well, but let me tell you what I wanted to do\u2014if I saw it in God\u2019s Word, I was going to do it because I wanted to be led by truth because I had gotten a lot of untruth, growing up. <br>\u00a0\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> So, at 21, God starts to work in your heart\u2014soften your heart. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You\u2019re responding to His Word. Then, when did Ray come along? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> At 23. Praise the Lord because, at 21, I was a Christian with still a bad attitude. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> A bad attitude toward men? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Toward men, yes. I had issues with men. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And was that because your dad was autocratic\u2014a dictator of sorts? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Yes. And let me tell you something\u2014it is so neat to have\u2014my mom passed away last year from Alzheimer\u2019s\u2014and to watch my dad care for my mom\u2014I now have a different dad. It\u2019s really neat watching how God, even at my dad\u2014he\u2019s going to be 85 this year\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Wow. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> \u2014transformation. God can transform\u2014and I want everybody to have that hope because, if you\u2019re hope is in the Lord, <em>nothing<\/em> is impossible with Him. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong> Right. So, at 21, it\u2019s a good thing you didn\u2019t meet Ray because if you had, what would have happened in the relationship? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Oh, he would have run. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Because? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Because I would have ran him off. [Laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> It was just: \u201cNobody\u2019s messing with me,\u201d kind of thing? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Oh, no. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> I mean, even to meeting him\u2014okay, number one, I think we broke off our dating relationship a couple of times. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd we broke off our engagement, at least, three. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Wow. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And is this because of the attitude toward men? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Yes, absolutely. I mean, if I felt like, in any way, he was telling me what to do, I had issue\u2014or if I felt like, in any way, that he was like my dad\u2014I had an issue. Let me just say this\u2014it wasn\u2019t only me breaking the relationship. Ray had his stuff, too. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> And so, there was fear there. We were 26 when we got married. We were into careers and loving our singleness. So, then, to get married\u2014it was like, \u201cAre we going to love marriage as much as we love singleness?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> So, at 26, when you finally get to the altar\u2014after these stop\/start, stop\/start kinds of things\u2014had your attitude toward men changed and softened when you said, \u201cI do,\u201d to Ray? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Somewhat. [Laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong> There was still\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Oh, absolutely. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> A lot of edge there? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Absolutely because I was so afraid that this could be a trick. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00 <\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> You didn\u2019t trust men, either. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> I didn\u2019t trust men. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I\u2019ve heard you say that, when a woman puts on her wedding dress, she\u2019s putting on her cheerleader uniform. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> When you put on your wedding dress\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Did I put on a cheerleader uniform?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> I had it half on [Laughter]\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Was it\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> \u2014because I definitely believed that, even as women, we believe in the institution of marriage. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> We do. We <em>want<\/em> somebody to love. We <em>want<\/em> somebody to connect with. We <em>want<\/em> somebody who is going to be our confidant. We desperately want and need that. And so, I believed, I wanted that; but I was so afraid that it would be a trick and that he would turn out to be my dad. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong> So, half of your wedding dress is white. The other half is camo? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Well\u2014[Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> You\u2019re engaging in battle. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> I was engaging\u2014yes! Yes, that\u2019s a good one. That\u2019s right; absolutely. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And so, you said, \u201cI do.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> I did. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> That, obviously, creates a permanent relationship. I mean, you\u2019re in this thing now. There\u2019s no\u2014this is what Barbara said after we first got married\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00 <\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tshe said, \u201cI realized there\u2019s no going home.\u201d I think Barbara locked herself in the bathroom a couple of times, just to get away from me, because, you know\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Well, I don\u2019t know if I would have gone to the bathroom. I really felt like I could make it by myself. I don\u2019t know if I came into marriage thinking this was permanent. I might have said that with my mouth, but it wasn\u2019t my heart. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> So, it wasn\u2019t a covenant, to begin with? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> No, it absolutely wasn\u2019t. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> So, God was still at work. Tell us about how God took you from this halfway to the all-the-way that you write about in your book, <em>Say It Loud!<\/em>, where you call women to be fully-committed, as cheerleaders, for their husbands and for their kids. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> It\u2019s a process of growing in truth. It\u2019s a process of growing in your personal relationship with Christ. If a woman doesn\u2019t have a personal, growing relationship with her Savior, then, there is not going to be much transformation. God transformed me. I was transformed in my heart\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tin what I believed. Now, I will say that there is <em>never<\/em> going to be divorce in my house. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Was that transformation an evolutionary process that just kind of slowly, over time, began to take down some of the walls you\u2019d built up; or do you remember some specific moments, in that process, where you got confronted with truth and you thought, \u201cI\u2019m going to have to live differently than I\u2019m living right now\u201d?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> I think, for me, it was ongoing\u2014you know, as I watched Ray live for Christ, in front of me. It\u2019s a hard place to be because, a lot of times, he would say things that would be just that thing that I did not need to hear; but he was absolutely the truth. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019ll give you an example. Right after we got married, I wanted to go to Midnight Madness. I was going to meet my sisters there, and we were going to shop like crazy. [Laughter] And Ray\u2014I had to go through a certain part of town\u2014and Ray was uncomfortable with me going through that to meet my sisters. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> At midnight. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00 <\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> At midnight. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> It started at midnight. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> And Ray did not want me to go. And we were just barely-married\u2014maybe, two or three months. So, he still couldn\u2019t tell me anything; but I remember being so angry because he didn\u2019t want me to go. Finally, Ray, exasperated, said, \u201cRobyn, I may not be able to tell you that; but I leave you in the hands of the Lord.\u201d At this time, I had such a relationship with the Lord that I wanted God to be honored. Ray was trying to be my protector, and I wasn\u2019t letting him protect me. I was either going to trust him or not trust him. That particular night, I chose to trust him. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Robyn, you know there are women who hear you tell this story and say, \u201cWell, if I was married to a guy like Ray, I\u2019d easily be his cheerleader. But the guy that I\u2019m married to is the one you were afraid of. I\u2019m not going\u2014I\u2019m not going to buckle to that.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> But buckling is a whole different ball game. There is a thing called submission\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tthat is wonderful for us, as women. Let me tell you\u2014you are not so much submitting to that man\u2014you are submitting, wholeheartedly, to God. You have to be at this place, where you are saying, \u201cAm I more concerned about what I feel, or am I concerned about how I represent Christ?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tEven when you have a domineering, adamant husband, who is like, \u201cYou have to do what I say!\u201d it is easier for you to say, \u201cI want to be what God wants me to be to him,\u201d and to die to yourself because, at that point, with me, it is all about my pride. It\u2019s time for me to lay down my pride. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And that\u2019s the basis of being able to <em>be<\/em> a cheerleader for your husband. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> You outline 30 practical tips for being a cheerleader. We\u2019re, obviously, not going to have time, on today\u2019s broadcast, to go through all 30; but give\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Not this week\u2014we won\u2019t have time to go through all. [Laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Because I\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> But I want to train some wives to be better cheerleaders for their husbands.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s not a matter of it being less of a position on the team because your husband is on the floor, playing the game\u2014you\u2019re, on the sidelines, cheering. That\u2019s your responsibility\u2014to cheer him as he does play his game\u2014as he lives out what God\u2019s got for him. Where does a cheerleader start? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> A cheerleader starts by recognizing, number one, that she has everything to do with the outcome of that game because, as she cheers, she rallies troops and she rallies herself behind her team. If we can get to the place where we understand that everything that we do\u2014everything that we say, how we represent, how we lift up our husbands\u2014has everything to do with how he responds to God. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI mean, you guys are in this studio every day. I am sure that the enemy throws his fiery darts at you in a whole lot of ways. If he can\u2019t get to you and Barbara, or you and Mary Ann, he comes at your children.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe see that because God has you in a position of leadership. It doesn\u2019t mean that He values us, as the cheerleaders, any less; but that\u2019s where He has you. You are going to be thrown these fiery darts; and you need to be able to come home and say, \u201cI have one person that I know, no matter what, is going to stand up for me\u2014that is going to cheer me on, that\u2019s going to be there to rub the salve on my wounds.\u201d So, that is who I want to be for Ray McKelvy. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> When I speak at the <em>Weekend to Remember<\/em> and I finish, it\u2019s, obviously, nice for people to come up and say: \u201cOh, I really enjoyed that. This is powerful. This is transforming our lives, our marriage, and our family.\u201d I enjoy hearing from the guests who come to our events; but there is only one person, in the audience, that I really want to know what she thinks about it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> That\u2019s my cheerleader, Barbara. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. You want to hear\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Because I know she loves me enough to go,\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00 <\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cYou know, Sweetheart, you really\u2014you really swung and missed. You didn\u2019t connect.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I remember\u2014this was before Mary Ann and I got married. I remember going to an event where a husband and wife were speaking to the leadership team that was assembled. I was a part of the leadership team. The wife spoke first, and she was very animated. She was engaging as a speaker. She was somebody that I just thought: \u201cShe\u2019s sharp. I enjoyed listening to her.\u201d <br><br>Well, her husband got up afterward, and he was a little dry and a little dusty. [Laughter] I was\u2014honestly, I was starting to lose focus; but I kept looking over at his wife, watching him speak. She was fixated on him. She was nodding. It was like she thought he was the best speaker ever. I\u2019m thinking, \u201cHe\u2019s not;\u201d but the second thing I was thinking was, \u2018I want someone to look at me like that.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00 <\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u201cI want somebody to believe in me like that.\u201d You\u2019ve talked, many times, about how Barbara\u2019s belief in you was fundamental to you becoming the man that God created you to be. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> That\u2019s exactly right, Bob. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI want to go back to what Robyn said, a bit earlier in our conversation, here. She said, \u201cThe key, in her life, to being able to do this was her relationship with Jesus Christ.\u201d What we\u2019re trying to point you to here, on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>, is\u2014if you are rightly-related to Christ, and you are allowing Him to live in and through you, and you\u2019re taking Him at His word\u2014He is going to enable you to be able to do what seems to be impossible, right now. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tEphesians 5:33\u2014the passage I read about wives respecting their husbands\u2014is within the context of the fifth chapter of Ephesians. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00 <\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnother passage, that sets up this great marriage passage, that goes from verse 22-33\u2014but right before you get into the marriage relationship, verse 21 says, \u201cSubmitting to one another out of reverence for Jesus Christ.\u201d That\u2019s what Robyn did. That\u2019s how she was able to submit to Ray\u2014to believe in him, to cheer him on. She was able to say: \u201cThis is a spiritual battle. I\u2019ve got to surrender my soul\u2014my will\u2014to my Heavenly Father, and to Jesus Christ, and allow Him to love Ray through me.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Well, I\u2019ll back you up a few verses from there because, before we ever get to \u201cSubmit to one another out of reverence for Christ,\u201d the real place where this whole passage starts is \u201cBe filled with the Spirit.\u201d Part of being filled with the Spirit is husbands loving their wives as Christ loved the church and wives respecting their husbands. You can\u2019t do that unless you are filled with the Spirit.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00 <\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And what every wife\u2014and for that matter, every husband\u2014who is listening to this broadcast, needs to know\u2014when you trusted Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, at that moment, you were sealed\u2014you received the Holy Spirit. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> We talk, at our <em>Weekend to Remember<\/em> marriage getaways, about how important it is for us to have our relationship with God right if we\u2019re going to have our relationship with one another right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And we spend a whole hour talking about\u2014not only our relationship with God through Christ\u2014but also this work of the Holy Spirit in our hearts and lives to empower us to be able to be\u2014the wife, the husband, the father, the mother\u2014that we want to be. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Well, that\u2019s foundational because the techniques\u2014of how to have better communication or how to resolve conflict\u2014those only work when our heart is right and when we are under the influence\u2014under the control of\u2014God\u2019s Spirit working in and through us\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>21:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tbecause this really isn\u2019t, ultimately, about having the right techniques. She and her husband, Ray, have spoken at our <em>Weekend to Remember<\/em> marriage getaways for almost 20 years. They\u2019ve been married for 25. So, you\u2019ve got the silver now. You\u2019re going for the gold. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> We are going for the gold. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Go for the gold. Now, here\u2019s what I want our audience to know\u2014this is a woman of great experience. She has 10 children\u201410 children. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> I have 10 children. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> In her spare time, she speaks at the <em>Weekend to Remember<\/em>. [Laughter] Now, when she speaks, there is a lot of reality. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Just to get away from the kids\u2014she speaks at the <em>Weekend to Remember<\/em>. In fact, she calls us from time to time and says: \u201cCan I speak at one of the conferences? I need a weekend away.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> You guys, I love my kids! So, you are not supposed to say that out loud. [Laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> We know you love your kids; but she has written a book called <em>Say It Loud!: Becoming Your Husband\u2019s Personal Cheerleader<\/em>. Now, how did you come upon this theme? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBecause I think it\u2019s a good one, I really do. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> I just believe that God has so given to a husband and a wife support. As a wife, I want to be Ray\u2019s personal cheerleader. I love sports. In my family room, I go crazy when my team is winning. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Who is your team? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> I love the Heat. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> The Miami Heat. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> The Miami Heat. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Okay, this interview is now concluded. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> I\u2019m sorry. Lebron\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Bob is a Spur fan. So, you just hurt him bad. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> This is sad. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Well, anyway, what you are really talking about here is Ephesians 5, verse 33. It begins by addressing husbands. It says, \u201cHowever, let each one of you love his wife as himself.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I think it\u2019s important that it begins with the husband; but the passage goes on to say, \u201cAnd let the wife see that she respects\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Respects, yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014\u201cher husband.\u201d Cheerleading, in its essence\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> It is. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014is a multi-faceted cheerleader on behalf of your husband. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Again, how did you come to be a cheerleader? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Well, back in the day\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Back\u2014this would be about 1980 East High\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Well, yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014Kansas City? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> East High School, Kansas City, Missouri\u2014rah, rah! Do you want the song? [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> If I had the yearbook, your picture would be in the yearbook\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Yes, it would. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014in the uniform? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Let me tell you\u2014my senior year, I was the mascot. So, I was the East High Bear. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Wow! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Oh. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Oh, yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> So, you, probably\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Tons of fun. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You\u2014so, you were dancing on the sidelines. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Doing it all\u2014rallying the troops. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> And how was the team? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> The team was pathetic! [Laughter] But that had nothing to do with us. We had a blast on the field. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> So, you are here, cheering\u2014I mean, it\u2019s got to be hard\u2014in the fourth quarter, down by 20 points\u2014and you\u2019re out there trying to get the fans to cheer the team, and you know there are not going to win. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Well, let me just say this\u2014even back then and even today, I think God is a miracle-working God. [Laughter] So, He can pull out 20 points in a five-minute time. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00 <\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Alright. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> He can do that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> That\u2019s how big He is. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> So, to cheer for Ray, when did that concept occur to you\u2014after five kids\u2014ten kids? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> You know, I think it\u2019s <em>still<\/em> occurring to me. I just\u2014I think when God gave me Ray\u2014I was the one who was never getting married. I was never getting married, I was never having children, and I was never going to be a Christian. Those were some things I didn\u2019t want to be because I grew up in a home of a pastor. I thought every Christian was a hypocrite. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Wow. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> So, when you see that\u2014when doctrine is messed up, when lives are all about bowing down to the preacher because the preacher is all that\u2014then, you have problems with the kids. I left home saying: \u201cThat is not what I want. I don\u2019t ever want a man telling me what to do.\u201d So, for this transformation to happen, only God could do that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Okay, well, I\u2019ve got to hear about this transformation happening, though. What\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> At 21 years old\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> \u2014when I was, back then, a computer operator and programmer. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00 <\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI <em>loved<\/em> technology, and I was so busy with the beeper\u2014back then, they had the beeper. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> And so, I was always on call. I worked, and I supervised computer operations for a huge corporation. Make a long story short\u2014I was exhausted. I felt like: \u201cLord! This is not worth it.\u201d So, I said, \u201cLet me try You.\u201d But one of the things I didn\u2019t want to happen is\u2014I didn\u2019t want <em>anyone<\/em> to tell me anything. If I\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Well, that\u2019s a bit of a problem if you\u2019re\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Well, but let me tell you what I wanted to do\u2014if I saw it in God\u2019s Word, I was going to do it because I wanted to be led by truth because I had gotten a lot of untruth, growing up. <br>\u00a0\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> So, at 21, God starts to work in your heart\u2014soften your heart. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You\u2019re responding to His Word. Then, when did Ray come along? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> At 23. Praise the Lord because, at 21, I was a Christian with still a bad attitude. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> A bad attitude toward men? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Toward men, yes. I had issues with men. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And was that because your dad was autocratic\u2014a dictator of sorts? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Yes. And let me tell you something\u2014it is so neat to have\u2014my mom passed away last year from Alzheimer\u2019s\u2014and to watch my dad care for my mom\u2014I now have a different dad. It\u2019s really neat watching how God, even at my dad\u2014he\u2019s going to be 85 this year\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Wow. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> \u2014transformation. God can transform\u2014and I want everybody to have that hope because, if you\u2019re hope is in the Lord, <em>nothing<\/em> is impossible with Him. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong> Right. So, at 21, it\u2019s a good thing you didn\u2019t meet Ray because if you had, what would have happened in the relationship? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Oh, he would have run. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Because? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Because I would have ran him off. [Laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> It was just: \u201cNobody\u2019s messing with me,\u201d kind of thing? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Oh, no. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> I mean, even to meeting him\u2014okay, number one, I think we broke off our dating relationship a couple of times. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd we broke off our engagement, at least, three. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Wow. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And is this because of the attitude toward men? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Yes, absolutely. I mean, if I felt like, in any way, he was telling me what to do, I had issue\u2014or if I felt like, in any way, that he was like my dad\u2014I had an issue. Let me just say this\u2014it wasn\u2019t only me breaking the relationship. Ray had his stuff, too. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> And so, there was fear there. We were 26 when we got married. We were into careers and loving our singleness. So, then, to get married\u2014it was like, \u201cAre we going to love marriage as much as we love singleness?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> So, at 26, when you finally get to the altar\u2014after these stop\/start, stop\/start kinds of things\u2014had your attitude toward men changed and softened when you said, \u201cI do,\u201d to Ray? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Somewhat. [Laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong> There was still\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Oh, absolutely. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> A lot of edge there? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Absolutely because I was so afraid that this could be a trick. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00 <\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> You didn\u2019t trust men, either. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> I didn\u2019t trust men. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I\u2019ve heard you say that, when a woman puts on her wedding dress, she\u2019s putting on her cheerleader uniform. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> When you put on your wedding dress\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Did I put on a cheerleader uniform?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> I had it half on [Laughter]\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Was it\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> \u2014because I definitely believed that, even as women, we believe in the institution of marriage. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> We do. We <em>want<\/em> somebody to love. We <em>want<\/em> somebody to connect with. We <em>want<\/em> somebody who is going to be our confidant. We desperately want and need that. And so, I believed, I wanted that; but I was so afraid that it would be a trick and that he would turn out to be my dad. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong> So, half of your wedding dress is white. The other half is camo? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Well\u2014[Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> You\u2019re engaging in battle. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> I was engaging\u2014yes! Yes, that\u2019s a good one. That\u2019s right; absolutely. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And so, you said, \u201cI do.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> I did. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> That, obviously, creates a permanent relationship. I mean, you\u2019re in this thing now. There\u2019s no\u2014this is what Barbara said after we first got married\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00 <\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tshe said, \u201cI realized there\u2019s no going home.\u201d I think Barbara locked herself in the bathroom a couple of times, just to get away from me, because, you know\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Well, I don\u2019t know if I would have gone to the bathroom. I really felt like I could make it by myself. I don\u2019t know if I came into marriage thinking this was permanent. I might have said that with my mouth, but it wasn\u2019t my heart. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> So, it wasn\u2019t a covenant, to begin with? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> No, it absolutely wasn\u2019t. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> So, God was still at work. Tell us about how God took you from this halfway to the all-the-way that you write about in your book, <em>Say It Loud!<\/em>, where you call women to be fully-committed, as cheerleaders, for their husbands and for their kids. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> It\u2019s a process of growing in truth. It\u2019s a process of growing in your personal relationship with Christ. If a woman doesn\u2019t have a personal, growing relationship with her Savior, then, there is not going to be much transformation. God transformed me. I was transformed in my heart\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tin what I believed. Now, I will say that there is <em>never<\/em> going to be divorce in my house. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Was that transformation an evolutionary process that just kind of slowly, over time, began to take down some of the walls you\u2019d built up; or do you remember some specific moments, in that process, where you got confronted with truth and you thought, \u201cI\u2019m going to have to live differently than I\u2019m living right now\u201d?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> I think, for me, it was ongoing\u2014you know, as I watched Ray live for Christ, in front of me. It\u2019s a hard place to be because, a lot of times, he would say things that would be just that thing that I did not need to hear; but he was absolutely the truth. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019ll give you an example. Right after we got married, I wanted to go to Midnight Madness. I was going to meet my sisters there, and we were going to shop like crazy. [Laughter] And Ray\u2014I had to go through a certain part of town\u2014and Ray was uncomfortable with me going through that to meet my sisters. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> At midnight. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00 <\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> At midnight. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> It started at midnight. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> And Ray did not want me to go. And we were just barely-married\u2014maybe, two or three months. So, he still couldn\u2019t tell me anything; but I remember being so angry because he didn\u2019t want me to go. Finally, Ray, exasperated, said, \u201cRobyn, I may not be able to tell you that; but I leave you in the hands of the Lord.\u201d At this time, I had such a relationship with the Lord that I wanted God to be honored. Ray was trying to be my protector, and I wasn\u2019t letting him protect me. I was either going to trust him or not trust him. That particular night, I chose to trust him. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Robyn, you know there are women who hear you tell this story and say, \u201cWell, if I was married to a guy like Ray, I\u2019d easily be his cheerleader. But the guy that I\u2019m married to is the one you were afraid of. I\u2019m not going\u2014I\u2019m not going to buckle to that.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> But buckling is a whole different ball game. There is a thing called submission\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tthat is wonderful for us, as women. Let me tell you\u2014you are not so much submitting to that man\u2014you are submitting, wholeheartedly, to God. You have to be at this place, where you are saying, \u201cAm I more concerned about what I feel, or am I concerned about how I represent Christ?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tEven when you have a domineering, adamant husband, who is like, \u201cYou have to do what I say!\u201d it is easier for you to say, \u201cI want to be what God wants me to be to him,\u201d and to die to yourself because, at that point, with me, it is all about my pride. It\u2019s time for me to lay down my pride. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And that\u2019s the basis of being able to <em>be<\/em> a cheerleader for your husband. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> You outline 30 practical tips for being a cheerleader. We\u2019re, obviously, not going to have time, on today\u2019s broadcast, to go through all 30; but give\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Not this week\u2014we won\u2019t have time to go through all. [Laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> Because I\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> But I want to train some wives to be better cheerleaders for their husbands.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s not a matter of it being less of a position on the team because your husband is on the floor, playing the game\u2014you\u2019re, on the sidelines, cheering. That\u2019s your responsibility\u2014to cheer him as he does play his game\u2014as he lives out what God\u2019s got for him. Where does a cheerleader start? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> A cheerleader starts by recognizing, number one, that she has everything to do with the outcome of that game because, as she cheers, she rallies troops and she rallies herself behind her team. If we can get to the place where we understand that everything that we do\u2014everything that we say, how we represent, how we lift up our husbands\u2014has everything to do with how he responds to God. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI mean, you guys are in this studio every day. I am sure that the enemy throws his fiery darts at you in a whole lot of ways. If he can\u2019t get to you and Barbara, or you and Mary Ann, he comes at your children.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe see that because God has you in a position of leadership. It doesn\u2019t mean that He values us, as the cheerleaders, any less; but that\u2019s where He has you. You are going to be thrown these fiery darts; and you need to be able to come home and say, \u201cI have one person that I know, no matter what, is going to stand up for me\u2014that is going to cheer me on, that\u2019s going to be there to rub the salve on my wounds.\u201d So, that is who I want to be for Ray McKelvy. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> When I speak at the <em>Weekend to Remember<\/em> and I finish, it\u2019s, obviously, nice for people to come up and say: \u201cOh, I really enjoyed that. This is powerful. This is transforming our lives, our marriage, and our family.\u201d I enjoy hearing from the guests who come to our events; but there is only one person, in the audience, that I really want to know what she thinks about it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> That\u2019s my cheerleader, Barbara. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robyn:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. You want to hear\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Because I know she loves me enough to go,\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00 <\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cYou know, Sweetheart, you really\u2014you really swung and missed. You didn\u2019t connect.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I remember\u2014this was before Mary Ann and I got married. I remember going to an event where a husband and wife were speaking to the leadership team that was assembled. I was a part of the leadership team. The wife spoke first, and she was very animated. She was engaging as a speaker. She was somebody that I just thought: \u201cShe\u2019s sharp. I enjoyed listening to her.\u201d <br><br>Well, her husband got up afterward, and he was a little dry and a little dusty. [Laughter] I was\u2014honestly, I was starting to lose focus; but I kept looking over at his wife, watching him speak. She was fixated on him. She was nodding. It was like she thought he was the best speaker ever. I\u2019m thinking, \u201cHe\u2019s not;\u201d but the second thing I was thinking was, \u2018I want someone to look at me like that.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00 <\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u201cI want somebody to believe in me like that.\u201d You\u2019ve talked, many times, about how Barbara\u2019s belief in you was fundamental to you becoming the man that God created you to be. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> That\u2019s exactly right, Bob. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI want to go back to what Robyn said, a bit earlier in our conversation, here. She said, \u201cThe key, in her life, to being able to do this was her relationship with Jesus Christ.\u201d What we\u2019re trying to point you to here, on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>, is\u2014if you are rightly-related to Christ, and you are allowing Him to live in and through you, and you\u2019re taking Him at His word\u2014He is going to enable you to be able to do what seems to be impossible, right now. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tEphesians 5:33\u2014the passage I read about wives respecting their husbands\u2014is within the context of the fifth chapter of Ephesians. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00 <\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnother passage, that sets up this great marriage passage, that goes from verse 22-33\u2014but right before you get into the marriage relationship, verse 21 says, \u201cSubmitting to one another out of reverence for Jesus Christ.\u201d That\u2019s what Robyn did. That\u2019s how she was able to submit to Ray\u2014to believe in him, to cheer him on. She was able to say: \u201cThis is a spiritual battle. I\u2019ve got to surrender my soul\u2014my will\u2014to my Heavenly Father, and to Jesus Christ, and allow Him to love Ray through me.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Well, I\u2019ll back you up a few verses from there because, before we ever get to \u201cSubmit to one another out of reverence for Christ,\u201d the real place where this whole passage starts is \u201cBe filled with the Spirit.\u201d Part of being filled with the Spirit is husbands loving their wives as Christ loved the church and wives respecting their husbands.
