I don\u2019t think\u2014if I was going to write a guide to finding true love\u2014I don\u2019t think I would title it <em>Get Lost<\/em>; you know? [Laughter] It does not seem like those two go together. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Yes, if you\u2019re a single person, kind of picking it up, it\u2019s kind of like, \u201c<em>Get Lost<\/em>?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> <em>Get Lost<\/em>!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> <em>Get Lost: Your Guide to Finding True Love <\/em>by Dannah Gresh. There has to be a good reason why she titled it that. Dannah\u2014welcome to the broadcast.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Thank you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> You\u2019re no rookie to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>. Why did you title it this?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Just to be rude! [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Ornery\u2014ornery. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Provocative; provocative.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> No; you know, it came from a $19 t-shirt. I\u2019ve struggled for so many years\u2014pulling my hair out, not only with teens and single women being obsessed with guys\u2014but married women being obsessed with their husbands being different, or perfected, or something. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThey\u2019re just never happy with a guy, no matter what form he comes in. This t-shirt\u2014my daughter walks in with her friend in high school. Her friend was wearing this t-shirt that said, \u201cA girl has to get so lost in God that a guy has to seek Him to find her.\u201d I was like, \u201cThat\u2019s it!\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> That\u2019s the message.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> That\u2019s it, in a sentence\u2014what every woman\u2019s heart needs!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> We should let our listeners know\u2014for those who don\u2019t know Dannah\u2014who haven\u2019t been listening to <em>FamilyLife Today <\/em>over the last dozen years\u2014you are a well-known author, speaker\u2014conference speaker. Your heart is really for young women\u2014starting when they\u2019re little girls, and all the way up until they\u2019re grown-up; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Right; I want them to live their lives in such a way that they can know the covenant picture of marriage that portrays Christ and the church.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe have to start when they\u2019re <em>really <\/em>little to develop that passion in them.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Let me take you back to the yearbook office at Cedarville University. You were a student at Cedarville. You made a promise in the yearbook office; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Well, I had noticed a boy named Bob Gresh. He was fine.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> I liked him.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> He was my Sunday school teacher; you see? That\u2019s why I liked him so much.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> How much older was he than you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Just one year.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> But he made your heart go pitter-patter?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Something like that; yes. I was called by my yearbook editor to come to a meeting in the yearbook office. I said, \u201cI\u2019ll be right over.\u201d Right after that, Bob Gresh called me. He said\u2014I will never forget it\u2014he said, \u201cDannah Barker, tell me you\u2019ll marry me or go with me to Wittenberg Library.\u201d I thought to myself, \u201cWell\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> This could be a done-deal\u2014quick, right here! [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> That\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> I said I\u2019d go to Wittenberg with him because what I <em>really <\/em>wanted was the first one; but I thought to myself: \u201cWhat do I tell my yearbook editor? What do I tell him?\u201d I decided to just not call him.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat poor guy sat in the office, waiting for me to come to the meeting; and I never came. As God would have it\u2014when I got to the library with Bob, there was my editor\u2019s best friend, standing there. I realized\u2014that was the moment of truth for me\u2014that I wouldn\u2019t be able to lie about some really wonderful way I had been caught up and unable to meet this yearbook editor. I would be caught with the truth that I was willing to do just about anything to get and keep the guy. That made me a liar that day.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You were a boy-crazy young woman?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> This is a quote from the book\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u201cI was guy-crazy with no ambition to be God-crazy.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Yes, that was me; and you know what? It was almost every woman, listening, at one point in her life.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> So, what percentage of young ladies, do you think\u2014single women\u2014let\u2019s say, college-aged and older\u2014are more guy-crazy than God-crazy?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> I would say 100 percent of them are, at some point in their life, because it\u2019s written into the human genetic code\u2014as broken, fallen women\u2014that we will suffer.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Genesis 3:16 says that \u201cyour desire will be for your husband\u201d. That word, desire, is very critical. Scholars say that the word connotes a violent craving\u2014a craving bordering on disease\u2014it just overtakes you. I think that well describes what we do, as women. We crave a guy. We think, \u201cIf we have a guy, all the world will be well.\u201d But the problem is that verse is a description of how we will function when we live under the power of the curse. God doesn\u2019t mean for us to stay there.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You had had boyfriends before you met Bob?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> One.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> And you\u2019ve shared with us before\u2014that that did not end well.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> No; heartbroken\u2014body robbed of the gift that God wanted me to give to my husband. There was a wall between me and God as a result of that relationship.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> When you met Bob, you were attracted to him; and yet, you broke up with him.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Tell us about that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Well, that day in the library\u2014when I was confronted with\u2014that I was a liar\u2014that was a really offensive word to me. I didn\u2019t want to lie to friends, and co-workers, and yearbook editors to get a guy. I didn\u2019t want to be that girl, but I didn\u2019t know how to be anything else. So, I went for a time where I realized that chapel\u2014Cedarville University has, to this day, chapel, every single day\u2014chapel, for me, was about getting to go to chapel and hold hands with Bob.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> It wasn\u2019t about opening the Word. It wasn\u2019t about worshipping. It was about that I got to see this guy. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI thought to myself, \u201cThere\u2019s something really wrong with that.\u201d I didn\u2019t know how to fix it. So, I found myself at his apartment door, one day. I just told him, \u201cYou mean more to me than God.\u201d Now here\u2019s the thing\u2014Bob Gresh loves the Lord. He knew that that wasn\u2019t okay. He also knew that it was true in his own heart. He didn\u2019t try to stop me. He didn\u2019t try to say, \u201cLet\u2019s fix this.\u201d He just let me go. That was a depressing time. I remember waking up\u2014because I thought I had found the one I was going to spend my life with\u2014but now, I was just in freefall. I would wake up every morning, just wanting to sleep the day out\u2014just sad.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI took a ride in a car\u2014well, I should confess\u2014it was Bob\u2019s car because, even though we were apart, I was still manipulating my day to be with him\u2014to see him\u2014to run into him. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOf course, I needed to run an errand out of town. There were cars everywhere; but of course, I couldn\u2019t find one. I had to ask Bob Gresh to borrow his. As I was driving his car\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Without him?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Without him, yes\u2014because we were broken-up\u2014we weren\u2019t speaking. [Laughter] It makes perfect sense to every woman listening\u2014I promise you. [Laughter] Well, I was driving down that road. It was a dark, moonlit night. I wanted to know that Jesus was enough and that, if all I had was Him, I\u2019d be happy.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat was the beginning of my journey to become God-crazy\u2014to get lost in God\u2019s love.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> And that\u2019s the title of the book. When you talk about getting lost, you\u2019re saying that before you ever find true love, it has to start with being in a right relationship with God and Him being all you need. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Absolutely.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I want to go back to Bob\u2019s apartment\u2014you coming there and telling him that you loved him more than God. Later on, what did he tell you he was thinking? What was going through his mind, as he listened to you share that with him? I mean, was he madly in love with you? Did he have to kind of pry his hands off\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Oh, yes! He had the hots for me\u2014that boy. [Laughter] He just\u2014he had it bad; [Laughter] but he realized the same thing that I did\u2014that his love for God wasn\u2019t sufficient for him. We both loved the Lord enough that His Spirit was telling us that that wasn\u2019t okay.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I had a moment like that in my dating relationship with Mary Ann\u2014almost exactly like what you\u2019re talking about. We had dated for a number of years\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> That could be the problem; you know?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Well, that was part of the problem because Mary Ann was like, \u201cIt\u2019s time to fish or cut bait!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> \u201cPut a ring on it!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes; right. And I was thinking, \u201cYou know, I\u2019ve got to have a job. I got to know I can really hold this thing together before I can propose to you.\u201d She was thinking: \u201cYes; yes. That\u2019s just an excuse.\u201d Okay? So, it was the summer after my senior year in college. I got a letter from Mary Ann. She said: \u201cIt\u2019s all over between us. I\u2019m done. I\u2019ve met another guy.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Ohhh!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes. It was a tough\u2014probably, four-week period\u2014from the time I got that letter\u2014I met with her and tried to talk her out of her foolishness. She was not to be deterred. I remember, distinctly, one night\u2014I was working at a local radio station. I finished up my shift. I was driving home on my little Moped.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI would get to the corner of the street; and I would say, \u201cYou know what I think I\u2019ll do? I think I\u2019ll go over to my friend, Bill\u2019s house, and see how he\u2019s doing,\u201d because I didn\u2019t want to go home. Home\u2014alone\u2014was just the worst imaginable. \u201cI\u2019m just going to go find a friend.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI got to the corner of the street. It was like God said, \u201cGo home.\u201d I got to the corner of the next street; and I thought, \u201cI should go see some other friends and pay them a\u2014\u201d \u201cGo home.\u201d So, here it was, Friday night, at 8 o\u2019clock. I am in my depressing apartment\u2014home. I remember thinking\/saying: \u201cOkay, I\u2019m home. Now, what?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat was the night that I just had a sense of God saying: \u201cYou have always had an idol in front of Me. I will have no other gods before Me. I can remove whatever idol you put there, and I have removed one for your good.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> And I remember thinking: \u201cYes, but now I\u2019m out of college! Where am I going to meet another girl?\u201d You know, I was still thinking about the girl; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> About the girl.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> God was just saying, \u201cIt\u2019s you and Me.\u201d I just have to complete the story because, obviously, Mary Ann and I got back together and got married\u2014the whole thing worked out. But I have to tell you\u2014about three weeks later\u2014I had a dream about Mary Ann. I woke up the next morning and I said: \u201cOkay, God. Look, I\u2019m trying to do my part and focus on the right stuff; but dreams?! I mean\u2014can\u2019t You kind of protect my dream life and keep her out because I\u2019m trying to think about the right stuff?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIn my dream, Mary Ann had called me and said, \u201cI\u2019d like to talk to you because I\u2019d like to get back together.\u201d That was my dream. I wake up from that. I went to work that day, and got all done with work, and I go out to lunch. When I came back, there is a note there. It is a note from Mary Ann. She had called while I was gone; and she said, \u201cCould we get together?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI am like, \u201cWhoa!\u201d We got back together and the rest is history. I\u2019ll have to unpack all of that\u2014but I remember, very clearly, that moment of God saying, \u201cI will have no other gods before Me,\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Yes; yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014if that\u2019s an idolatrous relationship\u2014even if it\u2019s a good relationship!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Well, it reminds me of the relationship with Abraham and Isaac. I think that\u2019s one that teenage girls that I minister to often identify with because, obviously, Abraham\u2019s relationship with his son wasn\u2019t bad.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> It\u2019s just that Isaac was sitting on the throne of Abraham\u2019s heart\u2014in a place that only belonged to God. That\u2019s what we do with relationships, all of the time.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> If I can weigh in on this, too. I had a similar experience in college. I had like\u2014I think it was 17 blind dates in one month.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Oh, my! You were girl-crazy.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> He was a player! He was a player\u2014that\u2019s what he was!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> That\u2019s the word! That\u2019s the word.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I mean, you know. I couldn\u2019t help myself. It was terrible. Anyway, I dated half the sorority house that Barbara was in and didn\u2019t date her. It was not a point-in-time experience\u2014like, Dannah, you had\u2014or, Bob, you expressed\u2014but there was a conclusion I came to that I needed to give my dating life to God.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> It was the same deal\u2014it was idolatry. I gave it to God. He didn\u2019t give it back for a long time\u2014at least, two weeks. [Laughter] Actually, it was several months.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> The longest months of your life!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> The difference in my story is Dannah had a sabbatical from Bob; and then, she married him. Bob, you ended up marrying Mary Ann. I still had a couple of years\u2014two-and-a-half years\u2014before Barbara and I tied the knot. But I think what we\u2019re talking about here is the same thing. We\u2019re talking about how you really have to get right in your relationship with Jesus Christ and start running in the right direction. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWho was it, Bob, who said: \u201cAs you\u2019re running in the right direction, toward the goal that God has for you, look who\u2019s running to your right and to your left. That may be who God has for you to run the race together.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> That really is what happened with you. How long did that sabbatical last, or did Bob Gresh come out of the blue corn that moonlit night? [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Ten months.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Ooohh.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> It was not two weeks\u2014it was ten months.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Wow!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And how did he do during that time? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Well, neither of us liked it a lot.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Did you keep borrowing his car, though? [Laughter] I mean, it\u2019s really not ten months if you\u2019re manipulating your way in there.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> No. I did stop that. That night, in the cornfield, was the night that I said, \u201cOkay, this stops.\u201d You know, \u201cIf I mean business and I really want to be in love with God and trust Him, then I stop manipulating.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou know, I think of how we are created to be in a love relationship with the God of the universe. That\u2019s why He created us!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThis craving that we have for each other is so complicated because He created marriage to be a picture of His love; and yet, we get it backwards. We\u2019re like, \u201cMaybe, if I have a great marriage relationship, I\u2019ll understand the love of God.\u201d No, no, no, no, no! Study the original. Know the love of God and then you can paint a picture with another person on this earth. We have it all backwards. That\u2019s part of the Fall\u2014Genesis says that women, especially, will have this proclivity for this violent craving for love\u2014for a guy.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u201cWe love because He first loved us.\u201d What I hear you saying is that this problem that we\u2019re talking about here is not just for singles.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> No.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> There are a lot of married listeners, right now, who are in marriages where they may not be boy-crazy anymore but they\u2019re certainly not God-crazy. They\u2019ve not filled the vacuum in their heart with Jesus Christ.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Here\u2019s how it manifests in married women. Sometimes, they\u2019re surfing Facebook<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> looking for old boyfriends. Sometimes, they\u2019re reading erotica because they think that something certainly has to awaken and feed the desires in their heart. Sometimes, they\u2019re looking at porn. Sometimes, they\u2019re just disgusted with the man they\u2019re married to because they\u2019re trying to get out of him something only God can give them.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut the other side of that word, desire, in Genesis is that, once you have the guy, you want to control him. My goodness, sometimes, as women\u2014as Christian women\u2014we treat our husbands in ways we would never <em>imagine<\/em> treating our girlfriends. I never really thought I struggled with this because, if Bob had big decisions to make, I submitted; but God help the man, should he try to pick the parking space we were going to park in on Sunday morning; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, as married women, we will, sometimes, manifest the desire by still being boy-crazy\u2014searching after old loves or wishing our love was different. Sometimes, we will manifest it by controlling the love that we do have and emasculating our husbands. That\u2019s a part of the violent craving in the curse.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tGod has a recipe for that violent craving\u2014that\u2019s why I wrote the book\u2014so that women could explore and experience that recipe. It starts with understanding that following your cravings never works. When we are craving human love, it\u2019s usually because we are not satisfied, fully, in the love of God. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe book of Proverbs says this: \u201cWhat a man desires is unfailing love; better to be poor than a liar.\u201d So, don\u2019t lie about it\u2014just admit it. Even if you don\u2019t have it and you\u2019re poor in love, admit, \u201cI need love.\u201d That word, desire, in Proverbs is the same word\u2014used only three times in the Old Testament\u2014to describe the craving of Genesis. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThis time, there\u2019s a solution\u2014\u201cthe unfailing love of God\u201d. It\u2019s used 32 times\u2014the words, \u201cunfailing love\u201d \u2014in the Old Testament. Never once is the source anything other than God Himself.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I have to ask you about the ten-month sabbatical. Were you the one who knocked on Bob\u2019s door and says\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> No. One of the things that I had learned was that God wanted him to pursue my heart. God wanted Bob to be the pursuer of my heart. So, I wasn\u2019t willing or going to do that. Bob taught one Sunday morning, ten months into this break-up, on the topic of \u201cthe pearl of great price.\u201d It was one of the most powerful little sermons in Sunday school I had ever heard. It talked about the fact that following Christ costs us everything. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIn the parable of the pearl of great price, this man finds a pearl of great value. He goes home and he sells everything to come purchase it\u2014everything. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBob, that day, was saying: \u201cListen! Our relationship with Jesus is that pearl. The kingdom of heaven is that pearl. We must be willing to give up everything\u2014every ambition, every relationship, anything we have\u2014we have to give it up.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOn Monday morning, I got to my box at Cedarville for mail. I pulled out this letter. First time, in many months, that Bob and I had communicated. It said: \u201cThere is a pearl of great price. It costs us everything, and we are told to pursue it. God has taught me, in these months, to pursue Him, at any cost. That has cost me you.\u201d Then, it went on to say: \u201cHe has also taught me that marriage is a picture of the love relationship we are to have with Him. Dannah Barker, you are my earthly pearl of great price.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Wow!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> That was it. The rest is history.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> So, you called him and asked him to marry you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>21:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Nope! He still had to chase me. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u00a0<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I started the day with Isaiah 55, verse 6. Just a brief context\u2014at the beginning of this chapter, Isaiah speaks of what God\u2019s commanding us to do. He says \u201cCome, everyone who thirsts; come to the waters. Even he who has no money, come buy and eat.\u201d Then, in verse 6, it says: \u201cSeek the Lord while He may be found. Call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way and let the unrighteous man his thoughts and let him return to the Lord that He may have compassion on him and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe\u2019re talking to individuals, right now, who need that abundant pardon\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014and who need to seek God. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>22:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think what Dannah is sharing here is something that should compel you to take the action and the step you need to take. I don\u2019t know what that is\u2014what you\u2019re facing\u2014where you are in your marriage or as a single person\u2014perhaps, as a parent with a child. The only thing that will satisfy the craving that you have is a relationship\u2014a <em>right <\/em>relationship\u2014with Jesus Christ. It\u2019s found in the Scriptures.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes; that\u2019s really the thesis of the book that you\u2019ve written, Dannah, which is called <em>Get Lost.<\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> It\u2019s a book about the fact that you\u2019re not going to find what your heart is really craving in human relationships. In fact, you will destroy human relationships if your first priority is not your relationship with God, and learning to walk with Him, and to worship Him. I don\u2019t think\u2014if I was going to write a guide to finding true love\u2014I don\u2019t think I would title it <em>Get Lost<\/em>; you know? [Laughter] It does not seem like those two go together. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Yes, if you\u2019re a single person, kind of picking it up, it\u2019s kind of like, \u201c<em>Get Lost<\/em>?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> <em>Get Lost<\/em>!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> <em>Get Lost: Your Guide to Finding True Love <\/em>by Dannah Gresh. There has to be a good reason why she titled it that. Dannah\u2014welcome to the broadcast.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Thank you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> You\u2019re no rookie to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>. Why did you title it this?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Just to be rude! [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Ornery\u2014ornery. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Provocative; provocative.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> No; you know, it came from a $19 t-shirt. I\u2019ve struggled for so many years\u2014pulling my hair out, not only with teens and single women being obsessed with guys\u2014but married women being obsessed with their husbands being different, or perfected, or something. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThey\u2019re just never happy with a guy, no matter what form he comes in. This t-shirt\u2014my daughter walks in with her friend in high school. Her friend was wearing this t-shirt that said, \u201cA girl has to get so lost in God that a guy has to seek Him to find her.\u201d I was like, \u201cThat\u2019s it!\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> That\u2019s the message.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> That\u2019s it, in a sentence\u2014what every woman\u2019s heart needs!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> We should let our listeners know\u2014for those who don\u2019t know Dannah\u2014who haven\u2019t been listening to <em>FamilyLife Today <\/em>over the last dozen years\u2014you are a well-known author, speaker\u2014conference speaker. Your heart is really for young women\u2014starting when they\u2019re little girls, and all the way up until they\u2019re grown-up; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Right; I want them to live their lives in such a way that they can know the covenant picture of marriage that portrays Christ and the church.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe have to start when they\u2019re <em>really <\/em>little to develop that passion in them.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Let me take you back to the yearbook office at Cedarville University. You were a student at Cedarville. You made a promise in the yearbook office; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Well, I had noticed a boy named Bob Gresh. He was fine.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> I liked him.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> He was my Sunday school teacher; you see? That\u2019s why I liked him so much.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> How much older was he than you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Just one year.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> But he made your heart go pitter-patter?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Something like that; yes. I was called by my yearbook editor to come to a meeting in the yearbook office. I said, \u201cI\u2019ll be right over.\u201d Right after that, Bob Gresh called me. He said\u2014I will never forget it\u2014he said, \u201cDannah Barker, tell me you\u2019ll marry me or go with me to Wittenberg Library.\u201d I thought to myself, \u201cWell\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> This could be a done-deal\u2014quick, right here! [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> That\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> I said I\u2019d go to Wittenberg with him because what I <em>really <\/em>wanted was the first one; but I thought to myself: \u201cWhat do I tell my yearbook editor? What do I tell him?\u201d I decided to just not call him.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat poor guy sat in the office, waiting for me to come to the meeting; and I never came. As God would have it\u2014when I got to the library with Bob, there was my editor\u2019s best friend, standing there. I realized\u2014that was the moment of truth for me\u2014that I wouldn\u2019t be able to lie about some really wonderful way I had been caught up and unable to meet this yearbook editor. I would be caught with the truth that I was willing to do just about anything to get and keep the guy. That made me a liar that day.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You were a boy-crazy young woman?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> This is a quote from the book\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u201cI was guy-crazy with no ambition to be God-crazy.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Yes, that was me; and you know what? It was almost every woman, listening, at one point in her life.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> So, what percentage of young ladies, do you think\u2014single women\u2014let\u2019s say, college-aged and older\u2014are more guy-crazy than God-crazy?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> I would say 100 percent of them are, at some point in their life, because it\u2019s written into the human genetic code\u2014as broken, fallen women\u2014that we will suffer.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Genesis 3:16 says that \u201cyour desire will be for your husband\u201d. That word, desire, is very critical. Scholars say that the word connotes a violent craving\u2014a craving bordering on disease\u2014it just overtakes you. I think that well describes what we do, as women. We crave a guy. We think, \u201cIf we have a guy, all the world will be well.\u201d But the problem is that verse is a description of how we will function when we live under the power of the curse. God doesn\u2019t mean for us to stay there.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You had had boyfriends before you met Bob?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> One.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> And you\u2019ve shared with us before\u2014that that did not end well.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> No; heartbroken\u2014body robbed of the gift that God wanted me to give to my husband. There was a wall between me and God as a result of that relationship.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> When you met Bob, you were attracted to him; and yet, you broke up with him.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Tell us about that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Well, that day in the library\u2014when I was confronted with\u2014that I was a liar\u2014that was a really offensive word to me. I didn\u2019t want to lie to friends, and co-workers, and yearbook editors to get a guy. I didn\u2019t want to be that girl, but I didn\u2019t know how to be anything else. So, I went for a time where I realized that chapel\u2014Cedarville University has, to this day, chapel, every single day\u2014chapel, for me, was about getting to go to chapel and hold hands with Bob.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> It wasn\u2019t about opening the Word. It wasn\u2019t about worshipping. It was about that I got to see this guy. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI thought to myself, \u201cThere\u2019s something really wrong with that.\u201d I didn\u2019t know how to fix it. So, I found myself at his apartment door, one day. I just told him, \u201cYou mean more to me than God.\u201d Now here\u2019s the thing\u2014Bob Gresh loves the Lord. He knew that that wasn\u2019t okay. He also knew that it was true in his own heart. He didn\u2019t try to stop me. He didn\u2019t try to say, \u201cLet\u2019s fix this.\u201d He just let me go. That was a depressing time. I remember waking up\u2014because I thought I had found the one I was going to spend my life with\u2014but now, I was just in freefall. I would wake up every morning, just wanting to sleep the day out\u2014just sad.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI took a ride in a car\u2014well, I should confess\u2014it was Bob\u2019s car because, even though we were apart, I was still manipulating my day to be with him\u2014to see him\u2014to run into him. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOf course, I needed to run an errand out of town. There were cars everywhere; but of course, I couldn\u2019t find one. I had to ask Bob Gresh to borrow his. As I was driving his car\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Without him?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Without him, yes\u2014because we were broken-up\u2014we weren\u2019t speaking. [Laughter] It makes perfect sense to every woman listening\u2014I promise you. [Laughter] Well, I was driving down that road. It was a dark, moonlit night. I remember so clearly that the cornfield looked blue in the moonlight. I stopped; and I said, \u201cGod, what am I doing in this car right now?!\u201d His whisper into my spirit was, \u201cDannah, to you, this gift is still bigger than the Gift-giver.\u201d That was sort of the turning point, for me. I wanted to know that Jesus was enough and that, if all I had was Him, I\u2019d be happy.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat was the beginning of my journey to become God-crazy\u2014to get lost in God\u2019s love.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> And that\u2019s the title of the book. When you talk about getting lost, you\u2019re saying that before you ever find true love, it has to start with being in a right relationship with God and Him being all you need. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Absolutely.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I want to go back to Bob\u2019s apartment\u2014you coming there and telling him that you loved him more than God. Later on, what did he tell you he was thinking? What was going through his mind, as he listened to you share that with him? I mean, was he madly in love with you? Did he have to kind of pry his hands off\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Oh, yes! He had the hots for me\u2014that boy. [Laughter] He just\u2014he had it bad; [Laughter] but he realized the same thing that I did\u2014that his love for God wasn\u2019t sufficient for him. We both loved the Lord enough that His Spirit was telling us that that wasn\u2019t okay.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I had a moment like that in my dating relationship with Mary Ann\u2014almost exactly like what you\u2019re talking about. We had dated for a number of years\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> That could be the problem; you know?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Well, that was part of the problem because Mary Ann was like, \u201cIt\u2019s time to fish or cut bait!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> \u201cPut a ring on it!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes; right. And I was thinking, \u201cYou know, I\u2019ve got to have a job. I got to know I can really hold this thing together before I can propose to you.\u201d She was thinking: \u201cYes; yes. That\u2019s just an excuse.\u201d Okay? So, it was the summer after my senior year in college. I got a letter from Mary Ann. She said: \u201cIt\u2019s all over between us. I\u2019m done. I\u2019ve met another guy.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Ohhh!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes. It was a tough\u2014probably, four-week period\u2014from the time I got that letter\u2014I met with her and tried to talk her out of her foolishness. She was not to be deterred. I remember, distinctly, one night\u2014I was working at a local radio station. I finished up my shift. I was driving home on my little Moped.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI would get to the corner of the street; and I would say, \u201cYou know what I think I\u2019ll do? I think I\u2019ll go over to my friend, Bill\u2019s house, and see how he\u2019s doing,\u201d because I didn\u2019t want to go home. Home\u2014alone\u2014was just the worst imaginable. \u201cI\u2019m just going to go find a friend.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI got to the corner of the street. It was like God said, \u201cGo home.\u201d I got to the corner of the next street; and I thought, \u201cI should go see some other friends and pay them a\u2014\u201d \u201cGo home.\u201d So, here it was, Friday night, at 8 o\u2019clock. I am in my depressing apartment\u2014home. I remember thinking\/saying: \u201cOkay, I\u2019m home. Now, what?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat was the night that I just had a sense of God saying: \u201cYou have always had an idol in front of Me. I will have no other gods before Me. I can remove whatever idol you put there, and I have removed one for your good.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> And I remember thinking: \u201cYes, but now I\u2019m out of college! Where am I going to meet another girl?\u201d You know, I was still thinking about the girl; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> About the girl.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> God was just saying, \u201cIt\u2019s you and Me.\u201d I just have to complete the story because, obviously, Mary Ann and I got back together and got married\u2014the whole thing worked out. But I have to tell you\u2014about three weeks later\u2014I had a dream about Mary Ann. I woke up the next morning and I said: \u201cOkay, God. Look, I\u2019m trying to do my part and focus on the right stuff; but dreams?! I mean\u2014can\u2019t You kind of protect my dream life and keep her out because I\u2019m trying to think about the right stuff?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIn my dream, Mary Ann had called me and said, \u201cI\u2019d like to talk to you because I\u2019d like to get back together.\u201d That was my dream. I wake up from that. I went to work that day, and got all done with work, and I go out to lunch. When I came back, there is a note there. It is a note from Mary Ann. She had called while I was gone; and she said, \u201cCould we get together?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI am like, \u201cWhoa!\u201d We got back together and the rest is history. I\u2019ll have to unpack all of that\u2014but I remember, very clearly, that moment of God saying, \u201cI will have no other gods before Me,\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Yes; yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014if that\u2019s an idolatrous relationship\u2014even if it\u2019s a good relationship!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Well, it reminds me of the relationship with Abraham and Isaac. I think that\u2019s one that teenage girls that I minister to often identify with because, obviously, Abraham\u2019s relationship with his son wasn\u2019t bad.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> It\u2019s just that Isaac was sitting on the throne of Abraham\u2019s heart\u2014in a place that only belonged to God. That\u2019s what we do with relationships, all of the time.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> If I can weigh in on this, too. I had a similar experience in college. I had like\u2014I think it was 17 blind dates in one month.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Oh, my! You were girl-crazy.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> He was a player! He was a player\u2014that\u2019s what he was!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> That\u2019s the word! That\u2019s the word.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I mean, you know. I couldn\u2019t help myself. It was terrible. Anyway, I dated half the sorority house that Barbara was in and didn\u2019t date her. It was not a point-in-time experience\u2014like, Dannah, you had\u2014or, Bob, you expressed\u2014but there was a conclusion I came to that I needed to give my dating life to God.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> It was the same deal\u2014it was idolatry. I gave it to God. He didn\u2019t give it back for a long time\u2014at least, two weeks. [Laughter] Actually, it was several months.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> The longest months of your life!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> The difference in my story is Dannah had a sabbatical from Bob; and then, she married him. Bob, you ended up marrying Mary Ann. I still had a couple of years\u2014two-and-a-half years\u2014before Barbara and I tied the knot. But I think what we\u2019re talking about here is the same thing. We\u2019re talking about how you really have to get right in your relationship with Jesus Christ and start running in the right direction. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWho was it, Bob, who said: \u201cAs you\u2019re running in the right direction, toward the goal that God has for you, look who\u2019s running to your right and to your left. That may be who God has for you to run the race together.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> That really is what happened with you. How long did that sabbatical last, or did Bob Gresh come out of the blue corn that moonlit night? [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Ten months.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Ooohh.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> It was not two weeks\u2014it was ten months.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Wow!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And how did he do during that time? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Well, neither of us liked it a lot.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Did you keep borrowing his car, though? [Laughter] I mean, it\u2019s really not ten months if you\u2019re manipulating your way in there.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> No. I did stop that. That night, in the cornfield, was the night that I said, \u201cOkay, this stops.\u201d You know, \u201cIf I mean business and I really want to be in love with God and trust Him, then I stop manipulating.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou know, I think of how we are created to be in a love relationship with the God of the universe. That\u2019s why He created us!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThis craving that we have for each other is so complicated because He created marriage to be a picture of His love; and yet, we get it backwards. We\u2019re like, \u201cMaybe, if I have a great marriage relationship, I\u2019ll understand the love of God.\u201d No, no, no, no, no! Study the original. Know the love of God and then you can paint a picture with another person on this earth. We have it all backwards. That\u2019s part of the Fall\u2014Genesis says that women, especially, will have this proclivity for this violent craving for love\u2014for a guy.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u201cWe love because He first loved us.\u201d What I hear you saying is that this problem that we\u2019re talking about here is not just for singles.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> No.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> There are a lot of married listeners, right now, who are in marriages where they may not be boy-crazy anymore but they\u2019re certainly not God-crazy. They\u2019ve not filled the vacuum in their heart with Jesus Christ.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Here\u2019s how it manifests in married women. Sometimes, they\u2019re surfing Facebook<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> looking for old boyfriends. Sometimes, they\u2019re reading erotica because they think that something certainly has to awaken and feed the desires in their heart. Sometimes, they\u2019re looking at porn. Sometimes, they\u2019re just disgusted with the man they\u2019re married to because they\u2019re trying to get out of him something only God can give them.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut the other side of that word, desire, in Genesis is that, once you have the guy, you want to control him. My goodness, sometimes, as women\u2014as Christian women\u2014we treat our husbands in ways we would never <em>imagine<\/em> treating our girlfriends. I never really thought I struggled with this because, if Bob had big decisions to make, I submitted; but God help the man, should he try to pick the parking space we were going to park in on Sunday morning; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, as married women, we will, sometimes, manifest the desire by still being boy-crazy\u2014searching after old loves or wishing our love was different. Sometimes, we will manifest it by controlling the love that we do have and emasculating our husbands. That\u2019s a part of the violent craving in the curse.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tGod has a recipe for that violent craving\u2014that\u2019s why I wrote the book\u2014so that women could explore and experience that recipe. It starts with understanding that following your cravings never works. When we are craving human love, it\u2019s usually because we are not satisfied, fully, in the love of God. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe book of Proverbs says this: \u201cWhat a man desires is unfailing love; better to be poor than a liar.\u201d So, don\u2019t lie about it\u2014just admit it. Even if you don\u2019t have it and you\u2019re poor in love, admit, \u201cI need love.\u201d That word, desire, in Proverbs is the same word\u2014used only three times in the Old Testament\u2014to describe the craving of Genesis. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThis time, there\u2019s a solution\u2014\u201cthe unfailing love of God\u201d. It\u2019s used 32 times\u2014the words, \u201cunfailing love\u201d \u2014in the Old Testament. Never once is the source anything other than God Himself.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I have to ask you about the ten-month sabbatical. Were you the one who knocked on Bob\u2019s door and says\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> No. One of the things that I had learned was that God wanted him to pursue my heart. God wanted Bob to be the pursuer of my heart. So, I wasn\u2019t willing or going to do that. Bob taught one Sunday morning, ten months into this break-up, on the topic of \u201cthe pearl of great price.\u201d It was one of the most powerful little sermons in Sunday school I had ever heard. It talked about the fact that following Christ costs us everything. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIn the parable of the pearl of great price, this man finds a pearl of great value. He goes home and he sells everything to come purchase it\u2014everything. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBob, that day, was saying: \u201cListen! Our relationship with Jesus is that pearl. The kingdom of heaven is that pearl. We must be willing to give up everything\u2014every ambition, every relationship, anything we have\u2014we have to give it up.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOn Monday morning, I got to my box at Cedarville for mail. I pulled out this letter. First time, in many months, that Bob and I had communicated. It said: \u201cThere is a pearl of great price. It costs us everything, and we are told to pursue it. God has taught me, in these months, to pursue Him, at any cost. That has cost me you.\u201d Then, it went on to say: \u201cHe has also taught me that marriage is a picture of the love relationship we are to have with Him. Dannah Barker, you are my earthly pearl of great price.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Wow!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> That was it. The rest is history.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> So, you called him and asked him to marry you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>21:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Nope! He still had to chase me. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u00a0<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I started the day with Isaiah 55, verse 6. Just a brief context\u2014at the beginning of this chapter, Isaiah speaks of what God\u2019s commanding us to do. He says \u201cCome, everyone who thirsts; come to the waters. Even he who has no money, come buy and eat.\u201d Then, in verse 6, it says: \u201cSeek the Lord while He may be found. Call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way and let the unrighteous man his thoughts and let him return to the Lord that He may have compassion on him and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe\u2019re talking to individuals, right now, who need that abundant pardon\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014and who need to seek God. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>22:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think what Dannah is sharing here is something that should compel you to take the action and the step you need to take. I don\u2019t know what that is\u2014what you\u2019re facing\u2014where you are in your marriage or as a single person\u2014perhaps, as a parent with a child. The only thing that will satisfy the craving that you have is a relationship\u2014a <em>right <\/em>relationship\u2014with Jesus Christ. It\u2019s found in the Scriptures.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes; that\u2019s really the thesis of the book that you\u2019ve written, Dannah, which is called <em>Get Lost.<\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> It\u2019s a book about the fact that you\u2019re not going to find what your heart is really craving in human relationships. In fact, you will destroy human relationships if your first priority is not your relationship with God, and learning to walk with Him, and to worship Him.
