Thanks for joining us on the Wednesday edition. Some of us have been at the bedside of a loved one, who is dying after a long life; and we are saying, \u201cGoodbye,\u201d knowing that unless God somehow supernaturally intervenes, this family member or this friend is going to pass from this life to the next.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I did that with my mom, who lived to be 91. Even though you hate to say, \u201cGoodbye;\u201d you know there\u2019s been a long, productive, fruitful life that\u2019s been lived.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> But it\u2019s a very different experience when you\u2019re at the bedside of a little baby girl, who is seven days old, and you expect that again, unless God intervenes supernaturally, you will say, \u201cGoodbye,\u201d to her on that particular day. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>1:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat\u2019s what happened for your daughter, Rebecca, and your son-in-law, Jake, with their baby girl, Molly. We have been revisiting, this week, the events around Molly\u2019s life and her death.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI had the opportunity to talk to Jacob and Rebecca\u2014weeks after Molly\u2019s home-going\u2014to talk with you and with Barbara, and to talk with Jake\u2019s parents, Bill and Pam Mutz\u2014and to hear about the profound influence of the little girl you wound up referring to as Mighty Molly.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Yes, Ecclesiastes, Chapter 3, says, \u201cFor everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven\u2014a time to be born, and a time to die.\u201d You just wouldn\u2019t think it would happen with a baby, after only seven days. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Ticking clock]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> Thursday morning, when I woke up, I saw the time it was on the clock\u2014very early in the morning. Right away, the first thing I thought of is: \u201cYou have x amount of hours before Molly\u2019s life is snatched away.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> It was not looking good that morning. In fact, when we came Thursday morning, the nurse said, \u201cShe\u2019s telling us it\u2019s time to go.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> It\u2019s like she knew that she had to hold on until Thursday.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> She was losing color in her face, and her hands were turning blue because she wasn\u2019t getting the oxygen she needed.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> I\u2019m sure God just decided: \u201cOkay, I\u2019m going to give you until Thursday because this is the day you wanted. I\u2019m going to give you this gift of having her until this day.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Pam:<\/strong> It was just an interesting thought about how precious time is. There are times when we waste it so much because we think we have so much time; and yet, God tells us to number our days and to present to Him a heart of wisdom.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Rebecca and Jake have made a very courageous selfless decision.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jacob:<\/strong> Rebecca and I had talked. It was really important to me because of how proud I was, as Molly\u2019s dad, to get to share her with other people. So, we decided to let each of the grandparents\u2014each of our parents\u2014hold Molly for a little while.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> That was neat because we said Mom should go first. We said, \u201cOkay, we\u2019ll give them each ten minutes.\u201d So, my mom held her first.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> I didn\u2019t ask for it, and I was perfectly happy not, because I wanted them to have every minute with her. I mean, she was their baby, not mine; but we got to hold her on Thursday. It was just so, so sweet.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Pam:<\/strong> It was precious. It was precious because I knew the next time I\u2019d see her she\u2019d be able to see, run, hear, and talk.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> And then, my Dad held her.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Wow! [Emotion in voice] Another piece of my heart is going to have to break.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> And I think that really made me attached to her even more\u2014just getting to hold her and kiss on her\u2014and just have her be right there.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong> We were in the window of opportunity of being able to hold, in our arms, someone that God was going to soon hold in His.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> It was heartbreaking to hold her the first time, knowing that we wouldn\u2019t see her alive again.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong> And when you have that foreknowledge, and you have the ability to recognize that transference is about to take place, it makes it a very, very holy place. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jacob:<\/strong> We decided to take Molly off life support when it was the shift of one of the nurses that we had had before.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Pam:<\/strong> My daughter, who is a nurse, Lori, also had said to me, \u201cMom, how would you like to be the nurse that\u2019s chosen to pull the tubes out?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca: <\/strong>[Emotion in voice] And I replay her\u2014the nurse\u2014coming in. Sometimes, I think I should be angry at the nurse for\u2014but I\u2019m not mad at her\u2014but it like all happened in slow motion. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tShe came in; and then, another doctor came in because she had to observe the whole thing. I just remember crying, and telling her I loved her, and telling Jesus to come get her quick.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> It would have always felt too soon to take her off of life support. So, they finally unhooked all of the tubes and took her off of life support.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> I don\u2019t know when Jesus took her. I think it happened so fast.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> We sat together on the couch\u2014huddled all together, and prayed, and cried, and released her into Jesus\u2019 arms. [Ticking clock]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> And then, the two of them decided that they wanted all of us back in there again.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And that was when I saw Molly for the first time without the tubes. Wow! That was really tough.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> It was just another one of those moments\u2014I walked in, and I saw her. I just said, \u201cOh, Molly!\u201d because she was gone! [Emotion in voice] It was just so sad to see her little lifeless body, and to know that we wouldn\u2019t have her, and just the reality of the death of someone that you\u2019ve fallen in love with in just seven short days. It was so sad.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> She just was beautiful\u2014just a beautiful little girl\u2014and to think she was gone.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> And so we sat there. The four of us parents just kind of circled them, and Jacob was still holding her at this time. We just sat there and looked at her. Nobody really said anything because there wasn\u2019t anything to say. He just continued to hold her.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Jake stayed there with her, and he stayed for another hour. In fact, Bill had to go back in and say, \u201cJake, it\u2019s time to put her down.\u201d I think he was having a hard time letting go.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong> When Jacob left the hospital on Thursday evening, after everything was over\u2014numbed of course, as you can understand, as he held Molly in his arms up to maybe an hour after she\u2019d gone home to be with Jesus\u2014his sister was in the lobby\u2014Lori, who was the pediatric nurse. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLori said to Jacob, \u201cDo you know you did the right thing?\u201d He said, \u201cNo, I don\u2019t.\u201d She grabbed the sides of his cheeks, and looked in his face, and said: \u201cYou look at me because you did exactly the right thing. <em>You know<\/em> you did the right thing, Jake. You did the only thing you could have done. Do you understand that?\u201d He kept saying: \u201cNo, I don\u2019t. I\u2019m not sure I did the right thing.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt was a great picture of a sibling that understands\u2014that goes through having seen <em>so many<\/em> children in <em>so many<\/em>, many horrible situations\u2014trying to get the attention of her brother and helping him recognize that they did the exact right thing for Molly\u2014the thing that should have been done. They have had nothing but confirmation about that decision; but even leaving, he\u2019s still wrestling with having done everything he could have done for his little girl. That\u2019s what a good dad should do.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I think the memorial service gave a chance to celebrate her life\u2014talk about a little of what the message was of her life\u2014and honor Jake and Rebecca for their choices and how they\u2019d stood strong and trusted Christ. I think it gave a lot of busy people an oasis, in the midst of life, to kind of reflect on what\u2019s important.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong> I think it was a bittersweet treat because we love our kids so much, and our kids know that we love them so much. It was a private family time.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> The one thing I wanted to make sure\u2014one song I wanted to make sure we sang is a song by Chris Rice called <em>Untitled Hymn. <\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<em>\u00a0<\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI wanted to make sure we sang that song because I\u2019ve always liked that song anyway. I always thought this would be a great song to play at my funeral. I never thought I\u2019d pick it out for my daughter\u2019s funeral, but I wanted that song to be played for her.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Song: <em>Untitled Hymn <\/em>in background]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> They started the song. The whole service, I had wanted to get on my knees; but I hadn\u2019t. I didn\u2019t know why I hadn\u2019t, but\u2014so, I finally just got off my chair, and got on my knees. I just lifted my head to heaven and just listened to the words. I just thought of Molly being with Jesus. She wasn\u2019t hurting anymore. She wasn\u2019t in pain.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBefore I knew it, our entire family had surrounded us because Jacob, at this point, had joined me on the floor. Our parents surrounded us and, then, our family. I remember looking around and just taking in that moment of seeing everybody weeping and in pain for us. I just loved that because it just pales in comparison to what heaven is going to be like. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThere is the end of the song where it says, \u201cWith your final heartbeat, kiss the world goodbye.\u201d I don\u2019t know if I sang that to her when she was dying; but I just kept thinking: \u201cShe did. She kissed the world goodbye. She said, \u2018I was here long enough and now I\u2019m going to go.\u2019\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Song: <em>Untitled Hymn<\/em>]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong> The funeral was, by far, the most difficult for Jacob. It was hard for everybody, but it was\u2014Jacob spent\u2014because, again, this deep wrestling of: \u201cDid I do everything I could have done? Did I stand in the gap, as a dad?\u201d\u2014that\u2019s the wrestle.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jacob:<\/strong> The graveside service just felt surreal\u2014almost kind of like I was watching myself on TV\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong> At one point, he even cried and lay prostrate on the ground as he prayed because his heart was so broken.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jacob:<\/strong> So, we were there. You know what you\u2019re there for; but it just seemed like, \u201cHow can this really be?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Graveside Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Heavenly Father, thank You for the comfort of Your words.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I had done one other funeral of a child\u2014a five-year-old boy\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Graveside Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Thank You for the Holy Spirit.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014a couple of days before Christmas. I knew whose words, at a graveside, are the only ones that brought comfort and perspective\u2014and that\u2019s the Scriptures.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Graveside Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Our hearts are broken. We want to be people of faith.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> The family was seated theater-style under an awning. In front of them was a little coffin that was just a bit bigger than an oversized shoe box.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> I just sat in the first row, right in front of her casket. I just wanted to sit as close to her as I could. I thought about\u2014I wanted to pick up her casket and hold it, but I didn\u2019t.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong> Little baby coffins are so hard to look at because every part of you says, \u201cLord! Why?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> They had a big pink balloon that was there, at the graveside, after the service was over.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong> We have added this tradition of sending balloons up after our children, who have gone to be with the Lord. So, Jacob and Becca had a balloon to write on.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Jake and Rebecca took the balloon. Jake wrote\u2014over half of it\u2014he wrote this long note to Molly.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong> I remember Jacob starting his writing with, \u201cI\u2019m so glad to know you\u2019re not in that stupid white box in front of me.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jacob:<\/strong> I felt very engaged then, as I was writing on that, and definitely not detached anymore. One of the things I just remember writing is that I was so glad she wasn\u2019t in that stupid white box that was sitting in front of me, even though her body was there\u2014that she\u2019s in heaven\u2014and that we have great hope in getting to see her again.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> Jacob finished writing on the balloon. Then, I wrote on the balloon. Everybody had gotten up from their chairs, and had come close to stand near us, and read what we had written on the balloon. It was a really big pink balloon. So, we had plenty of room to write on it. Jake wrote on half, and I wrote on the other half.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong> Well, when this balloon was done, it was covered with writing\u2014from top to bottom, left to right, in halves\u2014that they had both written. Then, the two of them went outside. We sang, as a family; and then, they let the balloon go.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jacob:<\/strong> I don\u2019t know\u2014there\u2019s something about doing a physical thing like that\u2014to my personality or to my temperament\u2014to me\u2014that made that really special.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong> And it was a spectacular picture as those balloons headed directly over Molly\u2019s grave and went straight up against the vivid Colorado blue sky\u2014and these pink balloons, with these long, shimmering ribbons hanging\u2014of our transference from this place to eternity. I don\u2019t think anybody there will ever forget that picture. It was a beautiful, beautiful sight.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Song: <em>Untitled Hymn<\/em>]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Studio]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Well, it is not an easy place to be; but as the song said, \u201cGod is there;\u201d isn\u2019t He?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> He is. You do see more clearly from the valley, but it hurts. I mean, it really does hurt to see a child that you love\u2014two children, that you love\u2014suffer so deeply and so profoundly. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd yet, if the gospel\u2014if Jesus Christ has not risen from the dead\u2014then, this is all despair\u2014I mean, there is no hope beyond the grave. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut the greatest news that\u2019s ever been announced is that: \u201cYou don\u2019t have to live in your sin. He died for your sins, was raised on the third day, and offers you forgiveness and eternal life if we\u2019ll turn to Him.\u201d That really is the hope of heaven\u2014that we\u2019ll see God someday because of the finished work of Jesus Christ\u2014if we will but place our faith in Him as our Savior and Master.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> We have Rebecca here with us. Rebecca, we\u2019ve been looking back at this event from five years ago, this week. I\u2019m just curious. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHow long did it take before Molly\u2019s life and this event was not a daily focus for you\u2014it wasn\u2019t, right there, on the forefront of your mind every day?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> I think it probably took almost two years. I mean, in those two years\u2014the first year, as people say, in grief, is the hardest year. You don\u2019t know what you\u2019re doing. You\u2019ve never done it before\u2014assuming this is your first loss. Everything is different. Everything is an adjustment. It\u2019s a new normal. I just look through a whole different lens now. It\u2019s not on the forefront of my mind anymore, as much as it used to be; but it\u2019s still there, and it\u2019s been five years.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Last week, you\u2019re at the cabin. You\u2019re in the kitchen, and the song comes on Pandora<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>. Tell me about that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> Well, we were all outside, having a picnic outside by the pool. We were having hamburgers. I just had to come in and get some food for Rainey. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<em>Untitled Hymn, <\/em>by Chris Rice, comes on\u2014which is the song we had played at her memorial service. I hear it often. I always think of her when I hear it, of course. I almost never cry anymore, which is interesting; but my dad was in the kitchen. We kind of looked at each other and made eye contact. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m standing there, stirring the grits. I\u2019m not crying. I\u2019m just standing there, thinking about the words and listening to it. He comes over, and he puts his arm around me. Just something about it\u2014a daddy, and his daughter, and us standing there together\u2014and he had his arm around me. I don\u2019t know, I think I just decided it would be a great time to cry. So, I started crying. We stood there and listened to the whole song, standing there together. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>21:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tMy mom walked up and put her arms around me, too. The three of us just stood there. I was like, \u201cOkay, just enjoy this moment\u2014we\u2019re there\u2014acknowledging my grief.\u201d I just soaked it up. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tA lot of times, I kind of\u2014 it\u2019s like I block my emotions out of it. I\u2019m just like, \u201cYes, okay.\u201d I really had this thought: \u201cNo, don\u2019t hurry for the song to end. Just stand here and enjoy it.\u201d I don\u2019t get to stand with my parents and cry about Molly, ever. The last time we did that was probably at her memorial service, five years ago. So, that was really sweet and very significant.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I know that putting the events of Molly\u2019s life together in a book\u2014working together with your mom on that\u2014I know that that was good for your heart. Some of us have been at the bedside of a loved one, who is dying after a long life; and we are saying, \u201cGoodbye,\u201d knowing that unless God somehow supernaturally intervenes, this family member or this friend is going to pass from this life to the next.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I did that with my mom, who lived to be 91. Even though you hate to say, \u201cGoodbye;\u201d you know there\u2019s been a long, productive, fruitful life that\u2019s been lived.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> But it\u2019s a very different experience when you\u2019re at the bedside of a little baby girl, who is seven days old, and you expect that again, unless God intervenes supernaturally, you will say, \u201cGoodbye,\u201d to her on that particular day. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>1:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat\u2019s what happened for your daughter, Rebecca, and your son-in-law, Jake, with their baby girl, Molly. We have been revisiting, this week, the events around Molly\u2019s life and her death.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI had the opportunity to talk to Jacob and Rebecca\u2014weeks after Molly\u2019s home-going\u2014to talk with you and with Barbara, and to talk with Jake\u2019s parents, Bill and Pam Mutz\u2014and to hear about the profound influence of the little girl you wound up referring to as Mighty Molly.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Yes, Ecclesiastes, Chapter 3, says, \u201cFor everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven\u2014a time to be born, and a time to die.\u201d You just wouldn\u2019t think it would happen with a baby, after only seven days. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Ticking clock]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> Thursday morning, when I woke up, I saw the time it was on the clock\u2014very early in the morning. Right away, the first thing I thought of is: \u201cYou have x amount of hours before Molly\u2019s life is snatched away.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> It was not looking good that morning. In fact, when we came Thursday morning, the nurse said, \u201cShe\u2019s telling us it\u2019s time to go.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> It\u2019s like she knew that she had to hold on until Thursday.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> She was losing color in her face, and her hands were turning blue because she wasn\u2019t getting the oxygen she needed.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> I\u2019m sure God just decided: \u201cOkay, I\u2019m going to give you until Thursday because this is the day you wanted. I\u2019m going to give you this gift of having her until this day.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Pam:<\/strong> It was just an interesting thought about how precious time is. There are times when we waste it so much because we think we have so much time; and yet, God tells us to number our days and to present to Him a heart of wisdom.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Rebecca and Jake have made a very courageous selfless decision.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jacob:<\/strong> Rebecca and I had talked. It was really important to me because of how proud I was, as Molly\u2019s dad, to get to share her with other people. So, we decided to let each of the grandparents\u2014each of our parents\u2014hold Molly for a little while.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> That was neat because we said Mom should go first. We said, \u201cOkay, we\u2019ll give them each ten minutes.\u201d So, my mom held her first.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> I didn\u2019t ask for it, and I was perfectly happy not, because I wanted them to have every minute with her. I mean, she was their baby, not mine; but we got to hold her on Thursday. It was just so, so sweet.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Pam:<\/strong> It was precious. It was precious because I knew the next time I\u2019d see her she\u2019d be able to see, run, hear, and talk.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> And then, my Dad held her.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Wow! [Emotion in voice] Another piece of my heart is going to have to break.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> And I think that really made me attached to her even more\u2014just getting to hold her and kiss on her\u2014and just have her be right there.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong> We were in the window of opportunity of being able to hold, in our arms, someone that God was going to soon hold in His.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> It was heartbreaking to hold her the first time, knowing that we wouldn\u2019t see her alive again.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong> And when you have that foreknowledge, and you have the ability to recognize that transference is about to take place, it makes it a very, very holy place. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jacob:<\/strong> We decided to take Molly off life support when it was the shift of one of the nurses that we had had before.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Pam:<\/strong> My daughter, who is a nurse, Lori, also had said to me, \u201cMom, how would you like to be the nurse that\u2019s chosen to pull the tubes out?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca: <\/strong>[Emotion in voice] And I replay her\u2014the nurse\u2014coming in. Sometimes, I think I should be angry at the nurse for\u2014but I\u2019m not mad at her\u2014but it like all happened in slow motion. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tShe came in; and then, another doctor came in because she had to observe the whole thing. I just remember crying, and telling her I loved her, and telling Jesus to come get her quick.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> It would have always felt too soon to take her off of life support. So, they finally unhooked all of the tubes and took her off of life support.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> I don\u2019t know when Jesus took her. I think it happened so fast.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> We sat together on the couch\u2014huddled all together, and prayed, and cried, and released her into Jesus\u2019 arms. [Ticking clock]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> And then, the two of them decided that they wanted all of us back in there again.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And that was when I saw Molly for the first time without the tubes. Wow! That was really tough.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> It was just another one of those moments\u2014I walked in, and I saw her. I just said, \u201cOh, Molly!\u201d because she was gone! [Emotion in voice] It was just so sad to see her little lifeless body, and to know that we wouldn\u2019t have her, and just the reality of the death of someone that you\u2019ve fallen in love with in just seven short days. It was so sad.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> She just was beautiful\u2014just a beautiful little girl\u2014and to think she was gone.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> And so we sat there. The four of us parents just kind of circled them, and Jacob was still holding her at this time. We just sat there and looked at her. Nobody really said anything because there wasn\u2019t anything to say. He just continued to hold her.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Jake stayed there with her, and he stayed for another hour. In fact, Bill had to go back in and say, \u201cJake, it\u2019s time to put her down.\u201d I think he was having a hard time letting go.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong> When Jacob left the hospital on Thursday evening, after everything was over\u2014numbed of course, as you can understand, as he held Molly in his arms up to maybe an hour after she\u2019d gone home to be with Jesus\u2014his sister was in the lobby\u2014Lori, who was the pediatric nurse. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLori said to Jacob, \u201cDo you know you did the right thing?\u201d He said, \u201cNo, I don\u2019t.\u201d She grabbed the sides of his cheeks, and looked in his face, and said: \u201cYou look at me because you did exactly the right thing. <em>You know<\/em> you did the right thing, Jake. You did the only thing you could have done. Do you understand that?\u201d He kept saying: \u201cNo, I don\u2019t. I\u2019m not sure I did the right thing.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt was a great picture of a sibling that understands\u2014that goes through having seen <em>so many<\/em> children in <em>so many<\/em>, many horrible situations\u2014trying to get the attention of her brother and helping him recognize that they did the exact right thing for Molly\u2014the thing that should have been done. They have had nothing but confirmation about that decision; but even leaving, he\u2019s still wrestling with having done everything he could have done for his little girl. That\u2019s what a good dad should do.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I think the memorial service gave a chance to celebrate her life\u2014talk about a little of what the message was of her life\u2014and honor Jake and Rebecca for their choices and how they\u2019d stood strong and trusted Christ. I think it gave a lot of busy people an oasis, in the midst of life, to kind of reflect on what\u2019s important.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong> I think it was a bittersweet treat because we love our kids so much, and our kids know that we love them so much. It was a private family time.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> The one thing I wanted to make sure\u2014one song I wanted to make sure we sang is a song by Chris Rice called <em>Untitled Hymn. <\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<em>\u00a0<\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI wanted to make sure we sang that song because I\u2019ve always liked that song anyway. I always thought this would be a great song to play at my funeral. I never thought I\u2019d pick it out for my daughter\u2019s funeral, but I wanted that song to be played for her.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Song: <em>Untitled Hymn <\/em>in background]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> They started the song. The whole service, I had wanted to get on my knees; but I hadn\u2019t. I didn\u2019t know why I hadn\u2019t, but\u2014so, I finally just got off my chair, and got on my knees. I just lifted my head to heaven and just listened to the words. I just thought of Molly being with Jesus. She wasn\u2019t hurting anymore. She wasn\u2019t in pain.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBefore I knew it, our entire family had surrounded us because Jacob, at this point, had joined me on the floor. Our parents surrounded us and, then, our family. I remember looking around and just taking in that moment of seeing everybody weeping and in pain for us. I just loved that because it just pales in comparison to what heaven is going to be like. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThere is the end of the song where it says, \u201cWith your final heartbeat, kiss the world goodbye.\u201d I don\u2019t know if I sang that to her when she was dying; but I just kept thinking: \u201cShe did. She kissed the world goodbye. She said, \u2018I was here long enough and now I\u2019m going to go.\u2019\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Song: <em>Untitled Hymn<\/em>]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong> The funeral was, by far, the most difficult for Jacob. It was hard for everybody, but it was\u2014Jacob spent\u2014because, again, this deep wrestling of: \u201cDid I do everything I could have done? Did I stand in the gap, as a dad?\u201d\u2014that\u2019s the wrestle.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jacob:<\/strong> The graveside service just felt surreal\u2014almost kind of like I was watching myself on TV\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong> At one point, he even cried and lay prostrate on the ground as he prayed because his heart was so broken.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jacob:<\/strong> So, we were there. You know what you\u2019re there for; but it just seemed like, \u201cHow can this really be?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Graveside Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Heavenly Father, thank You for the comfort of Your words.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I had done one other funeral of a child\u2014a five-year-old boy\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Graveside Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Thank You for the Holy Spirit.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014a couple of days before Christmas. I knew whose words, at a graveside, are the only ones that brought comfort and perspective\u2014and that\u2019s the Scriptures.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Graveside Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Our hearts are broken. We want to be people of faith.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> The family was seated theater-style under an awning. In front of them was a little coffin that was just a bit bigger than an oversized shoe box.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> I just sat in the first row, right in front of her casket. I just wanted to sit as close to her as I could. I thought about\u2014I wanted to pick up her casket and hold it, but I didn\u2019t.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong> Little baby coffins are so hard to look at because every part of you says, \u201cLord! Why?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> They had a big pink balloon that was there, at the graveside, after the service was over.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong> We have added this tradition of sending balloons up after our children, who have gone to be with the Lord. So, Jacob and Becca had a balloon to write on.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Jake and Rebecca took the balloon. Jake wrote\u2014over half of it\u2014he wrote this long note to Molly.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong> I remember Jacob starting his writing with, \u201cI\u2019m so glad to know you\u2019re not in that stupid white box in front of me.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jacob:<\/strong> I felt very engaged then, as I was writing on that, and definitely not detached anymore. One of the things I just remember writing is that I was so glad she wasn\u2019t in that stupid white box that was sitting in front of me, even though her body was there\u2014that she\u2019s in heaven\u2014and that we have great hope in getting to see her again.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> Jacob finished writing on the balloon. Then, I wrote on the balloon. Everybody had gotten up from their chairs, and had come close to stand near us, and read what we had written on the balloon. It was a really big pink balloon. So, we had plenty of room to write on it. Jake wrote on half, and I wrote on the other half.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong> Well, when this balloon was done, it was covered with writing\u2014from top to bottom, left to right, in halves\u2014that they had both written. Then, the two of them went outside. We sang, as a family; and then, they let the balloon go.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jacob:<\/strong> I don\u2019t know\u2014there\u2019s something about doing a physical thing like that\u2014to my personality or to my temperament\u2014to me\u2014that made that really special.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong> And it was a spectacular picture as those balloons headed directly over Molly\u2019s grave and went straight up against the vivid Colorado blue sky\u2014and these pink balloons, with these long, shimmering ribbons hanging\u2014of our transference from this place to eternity. I don\u2019t think anybody there will ever forget that picture. It was a beautiful, beautiful sight.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Song: <em>Untitled Hymn<\/em>]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Studio]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Well, it is not an easy place to be; but as the song said, \u201cGod is there;\u201d isn\u2019t He?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> He is. You do see more clearly from the valley, but it hurts. I mean, it really does hurt to see a child that you love\u2014two children, that you love\u2014suffer so deeply and so profoundly. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd yet, if the gospel\u2014if Jesus Christ has not risen from the dead\u2014then, this is all despair\u2014I mean, there is no hope beyond the grave. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut the greatest news that\u2019s ever been announced is that: \u201cYou don\u2019t have to live in your sin. He died for your sins, was raised on the third day, and offers you forgiveness and eternal life if we\u2019ll turn to Him.\u201d That really is the hope of heaven\u2014that we\u2019ll see God someday because of the finished work of Jesus Christ\u2014if we will but place our faith in Him as our Savior and Master.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> We have Rebecca here with us. Rebecca, we\u2019ve been looking back at this event from five years ago, this week. I\u2019m just curious. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHow long did it take before Molly\u2019s life and this event was not a daily focus for you\u2014it wasn\u2019t, right there, on the forefront of your mind every day?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> I think it probably took almost two years. I mean, in those two years\u2014the first year, as people say, in grief, is the hardest year. You don\u2019t know what you\u2019re doing. You\u2019ve never done it before\u2014assuming this is your first loss. Everything is different. Everything is an adjustment. It\u2019s a new normal. I just look through a whole different lens now. It\u2019s not on the forefront of my mind anymore, as much as it used to be; but it\u2019s still there, and it\u2019s been five years.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Last week, you\u2019re at the cabin. You\u2019re in the kitchen, and the song comes on Pandora<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>. Tell me about that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> Well, we were all outside, having a picnic outside by the pool. We were having hamburgers. I just had to come in and get some food for Rainey. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<em>Untitled Hymn, <\/em>by Chris Rice, comes on\u2014which is the song we had played at her memorial service. I hear it often. I always think of her when I hear it, of course. I almost never cry anymore, which is interesting; but my dad was in the kitchen. We kind of looked at each other and made eye contact. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m standing there, stirring the grits. I\u2019m not crying. I\u2019m just standing there, thinking about the words and listening to it. He comes over, and he puts his arm around me. Just something about it\u2014a daddy, and his daughter, and us standing there together\u2014and he had his arm around me. I don\u2019t know, I think I just decided it would be a great time to cry. So, I started crying. We stood there and listened to the whole song, standing there together. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>21:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tMy mom walked up and put her arms around me, too. The three of us just stood there. I was like, \u201cOkay, just enjoy this moment\u2014we\u2019re there\u2014acknowledging my grief.\u201d I just soaked it up. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tA lot of times, I kind of\u2014 it\u2019s like I block my emotions out of it. I\u2019m just like, \u201cYes, okay.\u201d I really had this thought: \u201cNo, don\u2019t hurry for the song to end. Just stand here and enjoy it.\u201d I don\u2019t get to stand with my parents and cry about Molly, ever. The last time we did that was probably at her memorial service, five years ago. So, that was really sweet and very significant.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I know that putting the events of Molly\u2019s life together in a book\u2014working together with your mom on that\u2014I know that that was good for your heart.
