They could choose to put her through 15-20 life-threatening surgeries, or they could make her life comfortable.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> [Emotion in voice] If our time was that limited, then nothing was going to keep me from sitting next to her for the next 48 hours or however long we would end up having.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> I just don\u2019t see how, if you love somebody, you can\u2019t fight for them. I really wanted to know what her personality is like.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>This is <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> for Tuesday, November 26<sup>th<\/sup>. Our host is the President of FamilyLife<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, Dennis Rainey, and I'm Bob Lepine. We\u2019ll hear today about the agonizing choice that Jake and Rebecca Mutz faced regarding the life of their daughter, Molly.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>1:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd welcome to <em>FamilyLife Today. <\/em>Thanks for joining us on the Tuesday edition. I know for us to spend some time, this week, revisiting the life and the home-going of your granddaughter, Molly\u2014which all happened five years ago, this past summer\u2014it is a painful thing. Yet, at the same time, it\u2019s a reminder, for you, of the goodness of God, even in the valley.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> You know\u2014He shows up when people hurt. We experienced Him in a very personal way, over a seven-day period, with the birth and death of Molly. We experienced that with our daughter, Rebecca, and her husband Jake. It\u2019s a privilege to be able to share this with our listeners. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00 <\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Pretty quickly, the doctors knew there was a problem. At first, the thought was it was something with her heart. Then, the concern was that it was something with her brain. As you started hearing this, you and Barbara knew you needed to get to Denver, where your daughter and your son-in-law were. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAs we hear the story today, we\u2019re going to continue to hear from Rebecca and Jake. We\u2019ll also hear from your wife Barbara and you\u2014and from Jake\u2019s parents, Bill and Pam Mutz\u2014as you guys continue to take us on your journey.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> I think I was with my mom. Jacob came in; and he said, \u201cThe doctors want to talk to us.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> The neurologist was one doctor\u2014the neonatologist, the cardiologist, and, then, our nurse\u2014and I think, maybe, even a fifth person.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> The body language of all of them made me think, \u201cI know where this is headed.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> I thought, \u201cOkay, this can\u2019t be good.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> \u201cIt doesn\u2019t take this many people to give you good news.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> They walked us into this room. On the sign\u2014it said, \u201cPrivate Family Room\u201d or something.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> It\u2019s like if you\u2019ve ever had to fire somebody, and you don\u2019t want to do that\u2014that was the mental picture that I had right now.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> They shut the door, and they explained what they saw on the MRI.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> When we looked at the MRIs, it was just so clear.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Pam:<\/strong> In fact, even today, I think, \u201cOh, I would really like to see that again\u2014\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> You could tell that it was not normal. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Pam:<\/strong> \u2014\u201cthe areas of the brain that were damaged.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> There\u2019s a vein in the brain that\u2019s called the vein of Galen. In weeks 6 to week 11 of the pregnancy\u2014so very, very early on\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Probably, a microscopic bunch of cells\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> \u2014something happened in that vein. Instead of it developing like it should have\u2014a bunch of blood vessels all developed together in a clump.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014but it determines how much blood the brain gets from the heart. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> When it\u2019s repairable, it shows up in a child at six months or older. I think he even said two or three years old. They can go in, with catheters through the veins, and they can block some of those veins to restrict the blood flow.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> It could take 10 to 20 surgeries\u2014if she even survived surgery.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> When it shows up in a newborn, it usually indicates\u2014from what we\u2019ve learned\u2014that it\u2019s much more severe.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> I think I asked the doctor, \u201cWhat would you do?\u201d He said, \u201cDo you want the truth?\u201d I kind of just wanted to roll my eyes at him and go: \u201cGive me the hard truth. I just need it.\u201d\u2014you know. He said\u2014he said, \u201cYou need to make her comfortable. [Crying] That\u2019s what I would do. I would make her comfortable and just enjoy her while you have her.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> All of them said that they would just make her comfortable. I really didn\u2019t like that euphemism. I kind of\u2014part of me\u2014wanted them to call it what it was\u2014to let her die or just to stop fighting.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> That was the worst thing I had ever heard in my life\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> You know, bless her heart\u2014just sitting there\u2014absorbing all that they were saying\u2014was really, really painful.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> \u2014was to take her off life support. I just thought the world had ended. Then, I just didn\u2019t want to be away from her anymore. I just wanted to be right next to her. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Audio Recording from the Hospital Room]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> Alright. Right now, it is about 11:00. I\u2019m going to take the time to read another book to my precious little angel, Molly. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca: <\/strong>[In the background, speaking to Molly] Hi! Hi! Are you going to open your eyes?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> If our time was that limited, then nothing is going to keep me from sitting next to her for the next 48 hours or however long we end up having.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Audio of Jake and Rebecca] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>Tonight, we\u2019re going to read <em>The Little Engine that Could.<\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<em>\u00a0<\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca: <\/strong>Hi! Hi!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> That night, I was talking with the nurse. She asked me what I thought about\u2014what I thought about all of this. I talked to her a lot about: \u201cI just don\u2019t see how, if you love somebody, you can\u2019t fight for them. You never know how well the surgery is going to turn out. You never know what could happen or what technologies could get developed later. Anything is possible. And anything <em>is <\/em>possible with God.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>The little train was carrying all of these wonderful things to the good little boys and girls on the other side of the mountain.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>She very softly kind of talked through what basically that quality of life stuff would be\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> All of a sudden, she stopped. She simply could not go another inch.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>\u2014her eyesight would be probably blind or, at least, legally blind. Her hearing, they said, was probably\u2014you know, almost completely ruined. The part of her brain that controls the rest of her body, as far as her motor skills, was damaged. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tShe talked a lot about how a lot of parents are too selfish to let go and that, \u201cWho are you really holding on for?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>Will you pull us up the mountain?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Dennis spent a lot of hours on Saturday and Sunday\u2014and I think Bill did, too, after he got there\u2014on the internet. They talked to a different radiologist. She pulled out her textbooks about the vein of Galen, and she printed off pages out of her textbook for them. They were just doing research like mad.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong> We had the wonderful privilege\u2014and this is really for Dennis and me\u2014of contacting physicians\u2014across the country\u2014whom we knew\u2014regarding her situation and circumstances and getting input from them to try and find or locate someone who might be able to make a difference, medically, if we could do so\u2014or to know of some case or protocol, that had occurred, where there might be a significant, or at least some, percentage of hope.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00 <\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> I think both of the dads\u2014both of the daddies\u2014felt like they were doing this for Jacob and Rebecca\u2014to give them comfort and assurance they were making the right decision because I think they really wanted Jacob and Rebecca to know everything there was to know so that they could make the best decision they could make and have no regrets.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong> The <em>constant <\/em>response we got back was, \u201cWe know of <em>no<\/em> successful recovery from this condition\u2014none.\u201d So, from our standpoint, as grandfathers\u2014that was somewhat bolstering because, all the more, we needed to be praying only for the miracle that God could work if He wanted to do it\u2014which, by the way, He could do it in a nanosecond if He had wanted to do that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> The passenger engine is not the only one in the world. Here is another engine coming\u2014a <em>great big<\/em> strong one. Let us ask him for help.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> There were a couple of doctors that came into her room one morning. They don\u2019t introduce themselves. They just come in, and they look, and they prod, and they feel. One doctor was like rubbing on her head, and looking at her head, and doing some funny things. I said, \u201cWho are you?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> We found ourselves, back in the same room, with one of the world\u2019s leading radiologists\u2014who had done more of these vein of Galen operations than anybody else.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> They said: \u201cShe won\u2019t have a great quality of life, but we think we could fix this vein. We can do the surgery that needs to be done and, possibly, have some sort of an outcome\u2014good outcome.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> He says, \u201cI think we can fix your daughter.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> I thought: \u201cOh, really. So, are you like a miracle worker? Do you really\u2014can you heal her? Is that what you\u2019re saying? What are you implicating with this\u2014\u2018We can fix it.\u2019?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Pam:<\/strong> What I was thinking is: \u201cJust let Molly go be with Jesus. Just let Molly go be with Jesus.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> There was no guarantee that it was going to work.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> If there had not been any brain damage, then it would have made sense to pursue the surgery, even though, in his terms, it was \u201cextremely risky\u201d.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> And she was so young. He would like to wait until she\u2019s a little older\u2014like a month old or two months old\u2014before they do any surgery. She would not have made it that long, at all.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong> Rebecca really got to the point\u2014she understood it, pretty early.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> \u201cI don\u2019t want to do surgery. I would <em>much<\/em> rather hold Molly while she goes to see Jesus instead of being on some cold operating table with a doctor that doesn\u2019t even know her.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong> Jacob couldn\u2019t let go. He was not doing his job if he let go, as a dad. This was his little girl, and he still needed to figure out a way to fix it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> The front of your brain is where your personality is\u2014and that wasn\u2019t damaged. That\u2019s part of what made it hard\u2014is I thought about: \u201cReally, her personality is in there. I really wanted to know what her personality is like.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> Then she said to herself, \u201cI think I can! I think I can! I think I can! I think I can!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Jake was being a daddy. He was trying to fix it, from the very start. You know what? He was being the perfect daddy.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> At that point, I think both of us were ready\u2014to let go\u2014ready to get off of life support. I still wanted a second opinion from somewhere else\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Jake, up until the end, was still wanting to call Salt Lake City.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> \u2014but, then, after that, I wanted to get a third, and fourth, and fifth opinion.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> I think he didn\u2019t want to see her die during surgery.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe wanted to just go ahead and take her off life support; but then, the other struggle was: \u201cNo! I want to push harder. I want to find the best doctor. I want to check with Philadelphia and with Boston;\u201d but then, the other side of him wanted to just enjoy her and wanted to just let her go.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>Faster and faster and faster and faster the little engine climbed until, at last, they reached the top of the mountain! Down the valley, lay the city.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> You feel like you\u2019re descending into a valley. Just about the moment when you think your heart could not break any further, it would break in half again.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>Here\u2019s your little journal. I\u2019m just going to read to you, my sweet angel, what I wrote when I first wrote in your journal, when you were still in mommy\u2019s tummy\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> You know, you realize, \u201cThis is hopeless\u2014\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>\u2014\u201cDear Molly, I am so proud of you. I love you so.\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014not that God couldn\u2019t\u2014God could heal.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>\u2014\u201cYour mother and I have been praying for you since even before you were conceived.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> What our prayer was, at this point\u2014first and foremost\u2014that the Lord would bring complete healing to her\u2014that when we took her off life support, she\u2019d be totally fine. That would be a miracle.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>\u2014\u201cWe\u2019ve asked the Lord\u2019s blessing for wisdom in giving you toward your purpose\u2014asked for patience in helping to raise and understand you.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> Secondly, if the Lord didn\u2019t do that, that He would give us a sense of peace, and a sense of strength, and a tangible feeling of His presence as we walked through this journey.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>\u2014 \u201cBaby, we are so excited about your life! I ask forgiveness in the times I certainly will let you down. I hope to always be your great friend as you grow. I love you! [Emotion in voice] Love, Daddy.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> At some point, are we going to do a bath today? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nurse: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca: <\/strong>Cool.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> They said we could give her a bath.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Pam:<\/strong> Say: \u201cFrom what I hear, I\u2019m getting a bath. I want to see what\u2019s going on.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca: <\/strong>Oh, this might help.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> We didn\u2019t put her in the tub, but we got to\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> So, you\u2019re going to put a diaper under her head. What a great idea. That is a good idea.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> Then poured water on top of her head to clean her off because she didn\u2019t have her IV anymore in her head. So, that was good.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> It\u2019s warm. I\u2019m so glad to wash her hair! She hasn\u2019t had her hair washed ever! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> No, that\u2019s not true. I washed it with my kisses.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca: <\/strong>Yes, well.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> We had moved her to her stomach\u2014I think to wash her back off.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Pam:<\/strong> Ooooh! Her hair is going to smell good! I love the smell.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> Molly would get really upset whenever we would move her. I think it just irritated her tube in her throat. So, anytime I was around, when that happened, I would always talk to her\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\twhisper in her hear\u2014tell her I was there and: \u201cMommy loves you. Mommy and Daddy are here for you. We love you so much. You\u2019re so sweet.\u201d I would just say all of these things to her, and it <em>always <\/em>calmed her down. I don\u2019t know if God just gave me a peace or what, but I just really enjoyed her.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Pam:<\/strong> [Reading from a book] With loving care, they wash her hair; while by her bedside, sits a bear.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> [Emotion in voice] I would sit for hours and just look at her, thinking that we had created her. It was so amazing that we could do that. I mean, God is so cool! I would sit, and I would just\u2014I would look at her, and kiss her, and I would talk to her. She would open her eyes, and she would look at us. Of course, I thought she was looking at us. The doctors said she was probably blind, which I ignored.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Pam:<\/strong> Oh, look how pretty it looks brushed!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> But I just wanted to enjoy her because I knew that time was limited. I wanted to make the most of those days.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> Her head is looking red. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nurse:<\/strong> You can gently lift her head so that she\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> Okay.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong> Jacob said we needed to have a dedication service for Molly: \u201cWe want to make sure that we have dedicated her to the Lord.\u201d Jacob\u2019s a good delegator. So, he said: \u201cDads, I want you to work on this. I want you to kind of pull this together.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> They put their heads together and came up with some verses and different things that they wanted to do.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> My dad led it. He read some Psalms. Then, we sang a song.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Turn your eyes upon Jesus. Look full in His wonderful face as the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> We all got in there\u2014and prayed over her and thanked God for her.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong> Really, it was an opportunity for everybody to verbally communicate that: \u201cWe have given Molly to You, Jesus.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> I just remember that being so\u2014so sweet and so special.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong> It was a dear, precious time of prayer. There were sweet, sweet moments. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> At one point, Samuel, my brother, asked if he could wash Molly\u2019s feet. He started to cry. [Emotion in voice] He is weeping anyway, but he started weeping. He had a Kleenex<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> with him. He just held it next to his eyes. He just pretty much doused this Kleenex; and then, he just wiped her feet with the Kleenex, that was just wet with his tears.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> It was interesting\u2014that evening, driving home, was not quite dark. I could see the Rockies. I thought, \u201cCompared to where we\u2019ve been, the Rockies are growing strangely dim.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019ve always been worshipful of the magnificence of those mountains and their beauty\u2014and still am\u2014but I\u2019m going to tell you something: \u201cWhen you\u2019ve been in the valley, and you\u2019ve been where God is and God\u2019s near, that song gets it.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Song: <em>Turn Your Eyes upon Jesus<\/em>]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I do think the baby dedication assisted Jake in letting Molly go. I don\u2019t think he had let go, at that point.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> I talked to my little sister, Lori, who\u2019s the pediatric nurse. I know what her values are\u2014they\u2019re the same as mine. She talked about being able to let go and that she had often prayed for herself\u2014that if she ever had a baby in a situation similar to Molly\u2019s or something else similar\u2014that she would have the strength to let go.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Pam:<\/strong> Dennis called Bill and me. He said, \u201cI have a feeling Jacob\u2019s going to have difficulty pulling the tubes out.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> I couldn\u2019t think of that being strength. That just seems like the antithesis of strength\u2014that seemed like giving up\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Pam:<\/strong> Bill said, \u201cDennis, I don\u2019t worry about something until it happens. I think that he\u2019s going to step up and do what he knows he needs to do.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> \u2014but it is. It takes a different type of strength. It takes a quiet strength\u2014a resolve. It takes a lot of faith.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I think the rest of the week was one process of Jake trying to decide: \u201cWhat\u2019s the responsibility of a daddy in this situation\u2014to fix it?\u201d and, \u201cIs it my failure because I haven\u2019t fixed it?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> After I finished talking to Lori\u2014Becca and I went to bed in the little room that we had there on Molly\u2019s floor. Basically, before we went to sleep, we talked about that. I told Rebecca what Lori had said. That was helpful to her, and it was helpful to me to talk about it. Then, we prayed together before we went to sleep. I felt like we were together, then, and really sort of on the same page.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> It\u2019s an innate responsibility of a man to care for the needs of his wife and children. Here we\u2019ve got an issue of life and death.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> I didn\u2019t have peace about it. I didn\u2019t have total peace about it. Logically, I knew that\u2019s where we were headed with high certainty; but\u2014emotionally, I guess\u2014I wasn\u2019t ready to do that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>21:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I wish I could trade places with Molly, and go on to heaven, and heal the wounds that are being sliced into Rebecca and Jake\u2019s hearts. I would do it in an instant, but it is a gift that is not mine to give. God alone is the One Who gives and the One Who takes away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Studio]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I know it\u2019s hard to imagine what it is like to be in that valley. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>22:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think, as you are sharing thoughts about it on today\u2019s program, I\u2019m thinking about the scene in the first <em>Stepping Up<\/em><sup>\u2122<\/sup> episode that we\u2019ve done for men\u2014the first in the video series\u2014where you share Molly\u2019s story. Guys get a chance to see Molly\u2019s handprints and footprints on the pages of your Bible.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m grateful, too, that Barbara took the time and your daughter, Rebecca, took the time\u2014they sat down, and they thought deeply, and they thought carefully about the journey that God took them on, as a mother and as a grandmother, in the loss of a daughter and a granddaughter. They shared those thoughts with us in a book that they\u2019ve written called <em>A Symphony in the Dark, <\/em>which we have recently revised and updated to include some of Rebecca\u2019s thoughts, now\u2014five years after Molly went home to be with the Lord. I really wanted to know what her personality is like.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>This is <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> for Tuesday, November 26<sup>th<\/sup>. Our host is the President of FamilyLife<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, Dennis Rainey, and I'm Bob Lepine. We\u2019ll hear today about the agonizing choice that Jake and Rebecca Mutz faced regarding the life of their daughter, Molly.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>1:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd welcome to <em>FamilyLife Today. <\/em>Thanks for joining us on the Tuesday edition. I know for us to spend some time, this week, revisiting the life and the home-going of your granddaughter, Molly\u2014which all happened five years ago, this past summer\u2014it is a painful thing. Yet, at the same time, it\u2019s a reminder, for you, of the goodness of God, even in the valley.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> You know\u2014He shows up when people hurt. We experienced Him in a very personal way, over a seven-day period, with the birth and death of Molly. We experienced that with our daughter, Rebecca, and her husband Jake. It\u2019s a privilege to be able to share this with our listeners. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00 <\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Pretty quickly, the doctors knew there was a problem. At first, the thought was it was something with her heart. Then, the concern was that it was something with her brain. As you started hearing this, you and Barbara knew you needed to get to Denver, where your daughter and your son-in-law were. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAs we hear the story today, we\u2019re going to continue to hear from Rebecca and Jake. We\u2019ll also hear from your wife Barbara and you\u2014and from Jake\u2019s parents, Bill and Pam Mutz\u2014as you guys continue to take us on your journey.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> I think I was with my mom. Jacob came in; and he said, \u201cThe doctors want to talk to us.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> The neurologist was one doctor\u2014the neonatologist, the cardiologist, and, then, our nurse\u2014and I think, maybe, even a fifth person.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> The body language of all of them made me think, \u201cI know where this is headed.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> I thought, \u201cOkay, this can\u2019t be good.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> \u201cIt doesn\u2019t take this many people to give you good news.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> They walked us into this room. On the sign\u2014it said, \u201cPrivate Family Room\u201d or something.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> It\u2019s like if you\u2019ve ever had to fire somebody, and you don\u2019t want to do that\u2014that was the mental picture that I had right now.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> They shut the door, and they explained what they saw on the MRI.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> When we looked at the MRIs, it was just so clear.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Pam:<\/strong> In fact, even today, I think, \u201cOh, I would really like to see that again\u2014\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> You could tell that it was not normal. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Pam:<\/strong> \u2014\u201cthe areas of the brain that were damaged.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> There\u2019s a vein in the brain that\u2019s called the vein of Galen. In weeks 6 to week 11 of the pregnancy\u2014so very, very early on\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Probably, a microscopic bunch of cells\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> \u2014something happened in that vein. Instead of it developing like it should have\u2014a bunch of blood vessels all developed together in a clump.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014but it determines how much blood the brain gets from the heart. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> When it\u2019s repairable, it shows up in a child at six months or older. I think he even said two or three years old. They can go in, with catheters through the veins, and they can block some of those veins to restrict the blood flow.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> It could take 10 to 20 surgeries\u2014if she even survived surgery.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> When it shows up in a newborn, it usually indicates\u2014from what we\u2019ve learned\u2014that it\u2019s much more severe.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> I think I asked the doctor, \u201cWhat would you do?\u201d He said, \u201cDo you want the truth?\u201d I kind of just wanted to roll my eyes at him and go: \u201cGive me the hard truth. I just need it.\u201d\u2014you know. He said\u2014he said, \u201cYou need to make her comfortable. [Crying] That\u2019s what I would do. I would make her comfortable and just enjoy her while you have her.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> All of them said that they would just make her comfortable. I really didn\u2019t like that euphemism. I kind of\u2014part of me\u2014wanted them to call it what it was\u2014to let her die or just to stop fighting.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> That was the worst thing I had ever heard in my life\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> You know, bless her heart\u2014just sitting there\u2014absorbing all that they were saying\u2014was really, really painful.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> \u2014was to take her off life support. I just thought the world had ended. Then, I just didn\u2019t want to be away from her anymore. I just wanted to be right next to her. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Audio Recording from the Hospital Room]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> Alright. Right now, it is about 11:00. I\u2019m going to take the time to read another book to my precious little angel, Molly. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca: <\/strong>[In the background, speaking to Molly] Hi! Hi! Are you going to open your eyes?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> If our time was that limited, then nothing is going to keep me from sitting next to her for the next 48 hours or however long we end up having.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Audio of Jake and Rebecca] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>Tonight, we\u2019re going to read <em>The Little Engine that Could.<\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<em>\u00a0<\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca: <\/strong>Hi! Hi!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> That night, I was talking with the nurse. She asked me what I thought about\u2014what I thought about all of this. I talked to her a lot about: \u201cI just don\u2019t see how, if you love somebody, you can\u2019t fight for them. You never know how well the surgery is going to turn out. You never know what could happen or what technologies could get developed later. Anything is possible. And anything <em>is <\/em>possible with God.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>The little train was carrying all of these wonderful things to the good little boys and girls on the other side of the mountain.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>She very softly kind of talked through what basically that quality of life stuff would be\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> All of a sudden, she stopped. She simply could not go another inch.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>\u2014her eyesight would be probably blind or, at least, legally blind. Her hearing, they said, was probably\u2014you know, almost completely ruined. The part of her brain that controls the rest of her body, as far as her motor skills, was damaged. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tShe talked a lot about how a lot of parents are too selfish to let go and that, \u201cWho are you really holding on for?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>Will you pull us up the mountain?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Dennis spent a lot of hours on Saturday and Sunday\u2014and I think Bill did, too, after he got there\u2014on the internet. They talked to a different radiologist. She pulled out her textbooks about the vein of Galen, and she printed off pages out of her textbook for them. They were just doing research like mad.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong> We had the wonderful privilege\u2014and this is really for Dennis and me\u2014of contacting physicians\u2014across the country\u2014whom we knew\u2014regarding her situation and circumstances and getting input from them to try and find or locate someone who might be able to make a difference, medically, if we could do so\u2014or to know of some case or protocol, that had occurred, where there might be a significant, or at least some, percentage of hope.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00 <\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> I think both of the dads\u2014both of the daddies\u2014felt like they were doing this for Jacob and Rebecca\u2014to give them comfort and assurance they were making the right decision because I think they really wanted Jacob and Rebecca to know everything there was to know so that they could make the best decision they could make and have no regrets.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong> The <em>constant <\/em>response we got back was, \u201cWe know of <em>no<\/em> successful recovery from this condition\u2014none.\u201d So, from our standpoint, as grandfathers\u2014that was somewhat bolstering because, all the more, we needed to be praying only for the miracle that God could work if He wanted to do it\u2014which, by the way, He could do it in a nanosecond if He had wanted to do that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> The passenger engine is not the only one in the world. Here is another engine coming\u2014a <em>great big<\/em> strong one. Let us ask him for help.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> There were a couple of doctors that came into her room one morning. They don\u2019t introduce themselves. They just come in, and they look, and they prod, and they feel. One doctor was like rubbing on her head, and looking at her head, and doing some funny things. I said, \u201cWho are you?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> We found ourselves, back in the same room, with one of the world\u2019s leading radiologists\u2014who had done more of these vein of Galen operations than anybody else.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> They said: \u201cShe won\u2019t have a great quality of life, but we think we could fix this vein. We can do the surgery that needs to be done and, possibly, have some sort of an outcome\u2014good outcome.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> He says, \u201cI think we can fix your daughter.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> I thought: \u201cOh, really. So, are you like a miracle worker? Do you really\u2014can you heal her? Is that what you\u2019re saying? What are you implicating with this\u2014\u2018We can fix it.\u2019?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Pam:<\/strong> What I was thinking is: \u201cJust let Molly go be with Jesus. Just let Molly go be with Jesus.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> There was no guarantee that it was going to work.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> If there had not been any brain damage, then it would have made sense to pursue the surgery, even though, in his terms, it was \u201cextremely risky\u201d.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> And she was so young. He would like to wait until she\u2019s a little older\u2014like a month old or two months old\u2014before they do any surgery. She would not have made it that long, at all.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong> Rebecca really got to the point\u2014she understood it, pretty early.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> \u201cI don\u2019t want to do surgery. I would <em>much<\/em> rather hold Molly while she goes to see Jesus instead of being on some cold operating table with a doctor that doesn\u2019t even know her.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong> Jacob couldn\u2019t let go. He was not doing his job if he let go, as a dad. This was his little girl, and he still needed to figure out a way to fix it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> The front of your brain is where your personality is\u2014and that wasn\u2019t damaged. That\u2019s part of what made it hard\u2014is I thought about: \u201cReally, her personality is in there. I really wanted to know what her personality is like.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> Then she said to herself, \u201cI think I can! I think I can! I think I can! I think I can!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Jake was being a daddy. He was trying to fix it, from the very start. You know what? He was being the perfect daddy.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> At that point, I think both of us were ready\u2014to let go\u2014ready to get off of life support. I still wanted a second opinion from somewhere else\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Jake, up until the end, was still wanting to call Salt Lake City.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> \u2014but, then, after that, I wanted to get a third, and fourth, and fifth opinion.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> I think he didn\u2019t want to see her die during surgery.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe wanted to just go ahead and take her off life support; but then, the other struggle was: \u201cNo! I want to push harder. I want to find the best doctor. I\u2019m just going to read to you, my sweet angel, what I wrote when I first wrote in your journal, when you were still in mommy\u2019s tummy\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> You know, you realize, \u201cThis is hopeless\u2014\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>\u2014\u201cDear Molly, I am so proud of you. That would be a miracle.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>\u2014\u201cWe\u2019ve asked the Lord\u2019s blessing for wisdom in giving you toward your purpose\u2014asked for patience in helping to raise and understand you.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> Secondly, if the Lord didn\u2019t do that, that He would give us a sense of peace, and a sense of strength, and a tangible feeling of His presence as we walked through this journey.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>\u2014 \u201cBaby, we are so excited about your life! I want to see what\u2019s going on.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca: <\/strong>Oh, this might help.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> We didn\u2019t put her in the tub, but we got to\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> So, you\u2019re going to put a diaper under her head. What a great idea. That is a good idea.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> Then poured water on top of her head to clean her off because she didn\u2019t have her IV anymore in her head. So, that was good.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> It\u2019s warm. I\u2019m so glad to wash her hair! She hasn\u2019t had her hair washed ever! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> No, that\u2019s not true. I washed it with my kisses.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca: <\/strong>Yes, well.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> We had moved her to her stomach\u2014I think to wash her back off.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Pam:<\/strong> Ooooh! Her hair is going to smell good! I love the smell.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> Molly would get really upset whenever we would move her. I think it just irritated her tube in her throat. So, anytime I was around, when that happened, I would always talk to her\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\twhisper in her hear\u2014tell her I was there and: \u201cMommy loves you. Mommy and Daddy are here for you. We love you so much. You\u2019re so sweet.\u201d I would just say all of these things to her, and it <em>always <\/em>calmed her down. I don\u2019t know if God just gave me a peace or what, but I just really enjoyed her.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Pam:<\/strong> [Reading from a book] With loving care, they wash her hair; while by her bedside, sits a bear.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> [Emotion in voice] I would sit for hours and just look at her, thinking that we had created her. It was so amazing that we could do that. I mean, God is so cool! I would sit, and I would just\u2014I would look at her, and kiss her, and I would talk to her. She would open her eyes, and she would look at us. Of course, I thought she was looking at us. The doctors said she was probably blind, which I ignored.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Pam:<\/strong> Oh, look how pretty it looks brushed!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> But I just wanted to enjoy her because I knew that time was limited. I wanted to make the most of those days.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> Her head is looking red. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nurse:<\/strong> You can gently lift her head so that she\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> Okay.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong> Jacob said we needed to have a dedication service for Molly: \u201cWe want to make sure that we have dedicated her to the Lord.\u201d Jacob\u2019s a good delegator. So, he said: \u201cDads, I want you to work on this. I want you to kind of pull this together.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> They put their heads together and came up with some verses and different things that they wanted to do.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> My dad led it. He read some Psalms. Then, we sang a song.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Turn your eyes upon Jesus. Look full in His wonderful face as the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> We all got in there\u2014and prayed over her and thanked God for her.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong> Really, it was an opportunity for everybody to verbally communicate that: \u201cWe have given Molly to You, Jesus.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> I just remember that being so\u2014so sweet and so special.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong> It was a dear, precious time of prayer. There were sweet, sweet moments. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> At one point, Samuel, my brother, asked if he could wash Molly\u2019s feet. He started to cry. [Emotion in voice] He is weeping anyway, but he started weeping. He had a Kleenex<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> with him. He just held it next to his eyes. He just pretty much doused this Kleenex; and then, he just wiped her feet with the Kleenex, that was just wet with his tears.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> It was interesting\u2014that evening, driving home, was not quite dark. I could see the Rockies. I thought, \u201cCompared to where we\u2019ve been, the Rockies are growing strangely dim.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019ve always been worshipful of the magnificence of those mountains and their beauty\u2014and still am\u2014but I\u2019m going to tell you something: \u201cWhen you\u2019ve been in the valley, and you\u2019ve been where God is and God\u2019s near, that song gets it.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Song: <em>Turn Your Eyes upon Jesus<\/em>]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I do think the baby dedication assisted Jake in letting Molly go. I don\u2019t think he had let go, at that point.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> I talked to my little sister, Lori, who\u2019s the pediatric nurse. I know what her values are\u2014they\u2019re the same as mine. She talked about being able to let go and that she had often prayed for herself\u2014that if she ever had a baby in a situation similar to Molly\u2019s or something else similar\u2014that she would have the strength to let go.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Pam:<\/strong> Dennis called Bill and me. He said, \u201cI have a feeling Jacob\u2019s going to have difficulty pulling the tubes out.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> I couldn\u2019t think of that being strength. That just seems like the antithesis of strength\u2014that seemed like giving up\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Pam:<\/strong> Bill said, \u201cDennis, I don\u2019t worry about something until it happens. I think that he\u2019s going to step up and do what he knows he needs to do.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> \u2014but it is. It takes a different type of strength. It takes a quiet strength\u2014a resolve. It takes a lot of faith.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I think the rest of the week was one process of Jake trying to decide: \u201cWhat\u2019s the responsibility of a daddy in this situation\u2014to fix it?\u201d and, \u201cIs it my failure because I haven\u2019t fixed it?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> After I finished talking to Lori\u2014Becca and I went to bed in the little room that we had there on Molly\u2019s floor. Basically, before we went to sleep, we talked about that. I told Rebecca what Lori had said. That was helpful to her, and it was helpful to me to talk about it. Then, we prayed together before we went to sleep. I felt like we were together, then, and really sort of on the same page.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> It\u2019s an innate responsibility of a man to care for the needs of his wife and children. Here we\u2019ve got an issue of life and death.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong> I didn\u2019t have peace about it. I didn\u2019t have total peace about it. Logically, I knew that\u2019s where we were headed with high certainty; but\u2014emotionally, I guess\u2014I wasn\u2019t ready to do that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>21:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I wish I could trade places with Molly, and go on to heaven, and heal the wounds that are being sliced into Rebecca and Jake\u2019s hearts. I would do it in an instant, but it is a gift that is not mine to give. God alone is the One Who gives and the One Who takes away. Guys get a chance to see Molly\u2019s handprints and footprints on the pages of your Bible.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m grateful, too, that Barbara took the time and your daughter, Rebecca, took the time\u2014they sat down, and they thought deeply, and they thought carefully about the journey that God took them on, as a mother and as a grandmother, in the loss of a daughter and a granddaughter. They shared those thoughts with us in a book that they\u2019ve written called <em>A Symphony in the Dark, <\/em>which we have recently revised and updated to include some of Rebecca\u2019s thoughts, now\u2014five years after Molly went home to be with the Lord.
