I do think\u2014when we went back to the room and we encountered this little seven-pound little girl, who had multiple tubes going in her mouth\u2014you could see her little heart beating in her chest. It was really beating. She was being fed through her bellybutton for IV. She was receiving heart medication. She was sedated to keep her from being anxious because of the tubes and everything. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou know, you walk into that setting and you\u2019re unprepared\u2014you know, you\u2019re just not seeing a baby. I had\u2014we just were not prepared for that moment. I just remember\u2014it just kind of took your breath away.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>1:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And welcome to a very special edition of <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>. Thanks for joining us on the Monday edition. It was five years ago, this past summer, that your family stepped into one of the most difficult seasons your family has ever been through.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, and, you know, there\u2019s no way to describe the rollercoaster of emotions\u2014of finding out that you have a new granddaughter\u2014and that your daughter, who has never had a child before, is giving birth to her firstborn. There\u2019s the hype, the elation, and celebration of that; and then, there is the plunging into a valley\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI mean, into a dramatic journey\u2014that there are not enough words in the vocabulary to describe the emotions that we went through over a period of a week. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes. Your daughter, Rebecca, gave birth to Molly Ann Mutz. It was on June 13, 2008.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right; Rebecca and Jake were married three years before they had a child. There\u2019s a lot of anticipation around this\u2014even though we\u2019ve had other grandchildren\u2014but it was a delight because it was, as I mentioned, Rebecca and Jake\u2019s first.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And as our listeners are going to hear, the joy of the successful birth quickly gave way to concern about Molly\u2019s health. Over the course of this week, we\u2019re going to hear about her short life and about the impact that short life had on her parents and on the whole extended family. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 This may be the most profound week of broadcasting that we\u2019ve ever hosted, here on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>. [Emotion in voice] It\u2019s a journey into a drama. Unfortunately, there are no actors. These are real people. The recordings you\u2019re going to hear are the actual voices of Jake and Rebecca, and Jake\u2019s parents, Bill and Pam Mutz, and Barbara and me. You\u2019re going to hear actual recordings from the delivery room\u2014a doctor and a nurse. You\u2019re going to hear a heart monitor. All week long, you\u2019re going to hear the voice of God. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIsaiah 45:3 says, \u201cI will give you the treasures of darkness, and hidden wealth of secret places, so that you may know it is I, the LORD, the God of Israel, who calls you by name.\u201d This is real life. I realize our listeners are not involved\u2014most of them, more than likely, right now\u2014in anything quite as profound as this, but all of us are involved in a journey\u2014a journey of encountering God. I want you to know\u2014He shows up on the mountaintops, and He\u2019s really there in the valley. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Actually, the story of Molly\u2019s life began when your daughter, Rebecca, and her husband Jake first got the news that they were going to be parents. Those days, throughout their pregnancy, were days of real joy and anticipation. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 I just loved being pregnant. It was so fun. I wasn\u2019t sick. I wasn\u2019t horribly tired.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 A lot of my joy would have been seeing all the joy that Becca had in being pregnant.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 I just enjoyed everything that was new about being pregnant\u2014you know, not being able to fit in my pants anymore.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 I thought, you know, \u201cHow cute she looks.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 You know, and then I\u2019m showing. That was really fun because then it was like, \u201cOkay, I really <em>am<\/em> pregnant,\u201d and then having people notice you, and ask you when you\u2019re due, and, \u201cDo you know what you\u2019re having?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 We decided not to find out her sex just to be old-fashioned.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 You know, \u201cDo you know what you\u2019re having?\u201d \u201cWell, I think it\u2019s a boy;\u201d and I heard everyone say, \u201cIt\u2019s a boy.\u201d Nobody ever said, \u201cOh, it\u2019s a girl.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 I said, if it was a boy, a really cool middle name would be Danger. So then, he could always say, \u201cDanger\u2019s my middle name.\u201d Becca kept saying, \u201cWell, what if we have a nerdy little boy?\u201d I said: \u201cDon\u2019t worry about it. I\u2019ll take care of that. We don\u2019t have to worry about that.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 Jacob\u2019s other grandpa, in Florida\u2014he even kept saying, \u201cHow\u2019s my grandson? How\u2019s my great grandson doing?\u201d\u2014you know.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 Or \u201cthe\u201d because, if he could have been named Jackson <em>the<\/em> Mutz, think about how neat that would be! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, I just expected a boy, you know; but I wanted a girl.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 For a girl, we liked Molly as the first name and Ann as a middle name. I was still kind of hoping that maybe when Becca saw him, if it was a boy, that she\u2019d be like, \u201cLooks like a Danger\u201d. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tShe kept thinking she maybe was having contractions and wasn\u2019t sure. So, she talked to her mom about it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 She went into labor on a Thursday morning sometime. I didn\u2019t talk to her until later in the afternoon because she wasn\u2019t really sure it was really it. I mean, you know, on your first one, you don\u2019t know anyway. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 It was more of an uncomfortable feeling\u2014other than just a tightening\u2014it was tightened, but then it\u2019d also hurt. I said, \u201cJake, I think we\u2019re going to have the baby today.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 So\u2014had a little bit of dinner. She didn\u2019t feel like eating very much.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 He\u2019s like: \u201cDo you want some food? You should eat! You\u2019re not going to get to eat anything when you get there.\u201d I\u2019m like: \u201cI\u2019m not hungry! Can we just go?\u201d\u2014you know. He\u2019s like, \u201cHow about some guacamole?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 They had said in the birthing classes\u2014that you\u2019re not going to get to eat for a long time.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u201cThis is really good guacamole,\u201d\u2014he\u2019s eating the guacamole. I\u2019m like: \u201cI\u2019m sure it\u2019s great. I don\u2019t want any! I\u2019m hurting! Can we please\u2026\u201d you know. He\u2019s like, \u201cOh, come on, you need to eat some food.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, she had a few bites.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 And then, they called\u2014I think on their way to the hospital\u2014about 8:00 at night or something. We went to bed, pretty sure that there was going to be a baby. We told them to call us in the middle of the night.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I woke up at 4:00. Of course, we hadn\u2019t heard anything. Barbara had her phone; I had my phone. I text to Jake, going, \u201cWhat\u2019s up?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 Phone became a really big problem.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 I was coaching\u2014encouraging her\u2014while simultaneously emailing people my BlackBerry<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, kind of, status updates. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, he\u2019s got my leg. Then, he\u2019s got his phone; and he\u2019s punching away and working on it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 I just figured\u2014in between contractions, you know\u2014it\u2019s an excellent time to be emailing status updates to friends and family.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 He emailed me back and said, \u201cShe\u2019s beginning to push.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 And I\u2019m like: \u201cPut the phone down! I need you to help me!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong>\u00a0 I got a text from him, right before I was going into a meeting on a Friday morning\u2014that Jacob said, \u201cI can see the crowning of the head.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 The nurse, one time, told me she was going to throw my phone out the window if I didn\u2019t put it down.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 She was a good nurse.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 The next thing I got was an email back that said, \u201cIt\u2019s a girl!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\u00a0\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 There\u2019s Miss Molly.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh! Oh my goodness. I can\u2019t believe it! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 Great job, Baby. You did it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 She\u2019s here! She\u2019s perfect!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 I can\u2019t believe it\u2019s a girl.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 I can\u2019t either! I really thought it was going to be a boy. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 We knew it was going to be Molly if it was a girl.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>I love that name, Baby.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019m so glad it\u2019s over.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 Me, too. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 The first message was, \u201cIt\u2019s a girl.\u201d I think he put what time she was born, but it was real short. That was all the information he gave.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And then, <em>nothing<\/em> for 90 minutes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 All those texts were about ten minutes apart: \u201cI can see the head.\u201d \u201cShe\u2019s here.\u201d \u201cThere\u2019s a problem,\u201d and she wasn\u2019t really crying. She whimpered a little bit.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nurse:<\/strong> Come on, Sweetheart. Let\u2019s hear a nice big sound.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, they went ahead and were wiping her off to try to stimulate her\u2014kind of\u2014wiping her off roughly, and put her on Becca\u2019s stomach, and were kind of tapping her a little bit. And she still\u2014Molly still wasn\u2019t crying.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 She had a little whimper earlier.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nurse:<\/strong>\u00a0 Chomping her fingers. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 You know, they said\u2014you can tell it was a little bit of a concern, but it didn\u2019t seem anything that serious.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nurse:<\/strong>\u00a0 She\u2019s a little bit stung.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 Then they took her off of Becca\u2019s stomach.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh, she\u2019s precious. I want to see her again.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 They\u2019re working on her.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 I know, I know. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 And put her over into the warming cart.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nurse:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019m going to take her over here to warm her.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 They had the heart monitor and stuff\u2014and so they started to hook them up. They\u2014you know, people kept talking about, \u201cShe\u2019s not crying.\u201d They were doing that\u2014and that Becca kept asking\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> Is she okay?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 I wasn\u2019t hearing anything. They were all over there with her. I kept asking: \u201cIs something wrong? Is she okay?\u201d Nobody would respond, and that\u2019s when I started to worry. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 I was just kind of watching everybody. You could definitely see\u2014every second that went by\u2014you could see an increase in the level of frenzy.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I just remember being\u2014I wouldn\u2019t say troubled\u2014but a little concerned.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 Dennis said he felt like something must not be right that we didn\u2019t\u2014he thought something\u2014it was kind of odd that they hadn\u2019t called.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nurse:<\/strong> They\u2019ll tell you\u2014ask you who you are.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 Molly Ann. There she goes.\u00a0 She needs to cry a little bit here.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think, at the end of the hour-and-a-half, we got a phone call from either Rebecca or Jake saying that Molly had been whisked away after birth because she didn\u2019t cry for four minutes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u00a0[Molly whimpering]\u00a0\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 There you go.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nurse:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, let\u2019s just see.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Molly crying louder]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 There you go\u2014little girl. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 If I had been there, I would have panicked with her not crying right away; but they\u2019d never been through this before. I don\u2019t think they realized the fact that she didn\u2019t cry right away was an indication that something might be wrong.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 Looks like she\u2019s still got some goop in her mouth.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Pam:<\/strong>\u00a0 Now, this is where my mind begins to flag\u2014red flag. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>You scared us so much.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Pam: <\/strong>So that\u2019s when I was wondering: \u201cAre we go out sooner?\u201d or, \u201cAre we going to just wait to go out?\u201d or, \u201cIs it imperative that we get out there?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 I should know this better.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 You\u2019re watching it now, and you\u2019re going: \u201cThere\u2019s something wrong! Come on! Get her with oxygen.\u201d\u2014like, \u201cHurry up!\u201d As soon as they put her oxygen on, she was so much better. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s her oxygen level\u2014is 45 percent? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nurse: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>So, what would be normal?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 You could just tell\u2014they would take the little hood off, and she would start to cry again.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 The more they worked it on her, the less sense of peace I had.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nurse:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019m just curious with her murmur.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think I overheard them talk about a heart murmur.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nurse:<\/strong> The echo of it we got. It didn\u2019t show anything obvious just yet. So, what we need to do is we need to have a pediatric cardiologist take a look at it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 I got to hold her before Flight for Life took her away to Children\u2019s. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, that\u2019s disconcerting because you just don\u2019t take a baby to Children\u2019s over nothing.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 And if anyone can fix it, Children\u2019s can.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 We are in the United States of America. You know, this is a great country; and they have great technology. I\u2019m definitely an optimist\u2014and that\u2019s something\u2014and I\u2019d say that Becca\u2019s an optimist.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 I thought she might have to have surgery. It\u2019s really sad, and that would be really hard; but she\u2019s not going to die. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Pam: <\/strong>I\u2019ve seen God just walk beside us through so many valleys, and floods, and fires\u2014and knowing that He could give Jacob and Becca that same grace for whatever the situation that they were going to begin walking through.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 They let me hold her. They had the oxygen mask right in front of her face so I really didn\u2019t get to see her all that well. Then, they put her inside the little cube and took her away.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 Would you do it all over again?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 I would do it all over again.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 You know, I would marry you all over again, Baby. I love you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 I love you, too.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>I love you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca: <\/strong>I love you, too.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 You\u2019re the joy of my life. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong>\u00a0 To be able to be there and to make sure we had our arms around them is the only thing we wanted to do. So, getting there was extremely important.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Pam:<\/strong>\u00a0 One of my good friends has a daughter who is a doctor in Denver\u2014in the pediatric area. It ended up that she does work at that hospital. She got a hold of Bill, after she had seen the MRI, and said, \u201cMr. Mutz, it would be very important for you to get out here as soon as possible.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong>\u00a0 Pam and I immediately packed everything up.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 I already had a ticket to fly out that day. So, I started throwing my things together because I was going that day anyway.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 But I had booked a flight to go directly in the evening after work.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 They said that I could leave, you know, \u201c\u2026once you feel better.\u201d They started giving me some pain meds, and I started to feel better. When your baby\u2019s somewhere else, you don\u2019t care how you feel\u2014you just want out. I didn\u2019t care what I was feeling\u2014and it hurt. I was in pain, but my heart hurt more than my body did.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 We met Jake right outside of where Molly was being cared for. He said: \u201cIt\u2019s not a heart problem. She\u2019s going to need brain surgery.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong>\u00a0 And that is when my concern gravely shifted because, frankly, there\u2019s been a lot of wonderful work done on heart problems, with kids today. When you get into a brain issue\u2014and I, now, know that there\u2019s a heart issue, as well\u2014and, \u201cHow does the heart issue relate to the brain issue?\u201d\u2014then you get very, very concerned.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 The brain surgery news did not go down well with me. At that point, the alarm started going off with me.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong>\u00a0 But when I turned, and I looked at Molly, then, I just wept.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 We encountered this little seven-pound little girl, who had multiple tubes going in her mouth. She was being fed through her belly-button for IV. She was receiving heart medication. She was sedated to keep her from being anxious because of the tubes and everything. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou know, you walk into that setting and you\u2019re unprepared\u2014you know, you\u2019re just not seeing a baby. I had\u2014we just were not prepared for that moment. I just remember\u2014it just kind of took your breath away.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 Dear Lord, just thank You for this precious, precious gift\u2014this little girl.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong>\u00a0 What a great picture this is of the fact that we don\u2019t have control over circumstances in life and how dependant we truly are.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You begin to realize how fragile and frail life is, as it starts out\u2014the gravity of the situation begins to grow.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 We pray that You would just continue to prepare us, as parents.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong>\u00a0 There\u2019s such great dependence on God, and such total dependence on whether or not He works a miracle through this\u2014which would be our heart\u2019s desire\u2014or whether or not we trust in what He\u2019s trying to accomplish through it, which is ultimately His desire.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 And Lord, just for her heart\u2014that You would bring glory\u2014quickly, miraculously do it. In Your name, Amen. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I mean\u2014it\u2019s like a descent. You\u2019re descending down into a valley.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong>\u00a0 When we saw Molly, I think that personified all of that emotion. You realize that that\u2019s where they\u2019re going to be, and that\u2019s what this week\u2019s going to be about.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Studio]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You know, I remember you saying, many times in the days that followed this story beginning to unfold, that you don\u2019t know what people do in these moments if they don\u2019t have a faith that there\u2019s a God who is in control of all that\u2019s taking place.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I cannot imagine. I cannot imagine. You would only be left to profound denial\u2014almost like a denial of gravity\u2014because when a little baby is suffering, it is\u2014it\u2019s riveting\u2014I mean, all of life blurs out. Everything is focused in that little life. Earlier, I talked about descending into a valley. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tEven listening to it again here, today, I wrote down the word <em>plunged<\/em> into the valley. There was no descent. I was immediately taken back to those moments. Until I heard, just a few moments ago, some of the recordings from the delivery room, I had never heard Molly cry. I\u2019d never heard any utterance from her. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019d not heard any of the dialogue from the delivery room and the concern that began to be expressed by the doctors. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tObviously, I know where the story goes for the next few days. I\u2019ll tell you\u2014it was an interesting emotion\u2014just to think back on that moment of how the birth of a baby represents so much hope, and expectancy, and such gratefulness to God. We can so take it for granted. We can so take that moment that God gives life for granted. He\u2019s a good God as He gives life, and He\u2019s a good God when He takes life.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBarbara and Rebecca, sometime later, got together and have put together their thoughts and experiences that have become a book. At the beginning of the book, they have written\u2014Barbara writes something I just want to share with our listeners because it\u2019s a great description of what you\u2019re going to experience, this week, on <em>FamilyLife Today.<\/em> \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tShe writes: \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen I hear Handel, Beethoven, or Bach, I think how profoundly moving music can be. I feel my soul lifted, called to something higher\u2014something nobler\u2014something more perfect than this fallen world has to offer. It invades my mundane, ordinary existence; and as I listen, I feel transported, as if the music has escaped from another realm. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tA grand and glorious symphony has been written; and for seven dark but beautiful days, I heard the strains of its melody. The musical score came from heaven, with the debut of a tiny, helpless baby. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>21:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHer song was complex, yet perfectly written. Frail as she was, this little one took center stage and, without uttering a word, stirred the passions of the thousands who listened. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tElegant music has a lingering effect, and so did the hymn of this tiny life. She touched me, and I am left with a divinely beautiful memory, changed forever by having heard a few measures of His symphony in her brief but mighty life. I do think\u2014when we went back to the room and we encountered this little seven-pound little girl, who had multiple tubes going in her mouth\u2014you could see her little heart beating in her chest. It was really beating. She was being fed through her bellybutton for IV. She was receiving heart medication. She was sedated to keep her from being anxious because of the tubes and everything. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou know, you walk into that setting and you\u2019re unprepared\u2014you know, you\u2019re just not seeing a baby. I had\u2014we just were not prepared for that moment. I just remember\u2014it just kind of took your breath away.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>1:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And welcome to a very special edition of <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>. Thanks for joining us on the Monday edition. It was five years ago, this past summer, that your family stepped into one of the most difficult seasons your family has ever been through.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, and, you know, there\u2019s no way to describe the rollercoaster of emotions\u2014of finding out that you have a new granddaughter\u2014and that your daughter, who has never had a child before, is giving birth to her firstborn. There\u2019s the hype, the elation, and celebration of that; and then, there is the plunging into a valley\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI mean, into a dramatic journey\u2014that there are not enough words in the vocabulary to describe the emotions that we went through over a period of a week. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes. Your daughter, Rebecca, gave birth to Molly Ann Mutz. It was on June 13, 2008.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right; Rebecca and Jake were married three years before they had a child. There\u2019s a lot of anticipation around this\u2014even though we\u2019ve had other grandchildren\u2014but it was a delight because it was, as I mentioned, Rebecca and Jake\u2019s first.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And as our listeners are going to hear, the joy of the successful birth quickly gave way to concern about Molly\u2019s health. Over the course of this week, we\u2019re going to hear about her short life and about the impact that short life had on her parents and on the whole extended family. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 This may be the most profound week of broadcasting that we\u2019ve ever hosted, here on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>. [Emotion in voice] It\u2019s a journey into a drama. Unfortunately, there are no actors. These are real people. The recordings you\u2019re going to hear are the actual voices of Jake and Rebecca, and Jake\u2019s parents, Bill and Pam Mutz, and Barbara and me. You\u2019re going to hear actual recordings from the delivery room\u2014a doctor and a nurse. You\u2019re going to hear a heart monitor. All week long, you\u2019re going to hear the voice of God. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIsaiah 45:3 says, \u201cI will give you the treasures of darkness, and hidden wealth of secret places, so that you may know it is I, the LORD, the God of Israel, who calls you by name.\u201d This is real life. I realize our listeners are not involved\u2014most of them, more than likely, right now\u2014in anything quite as profound as this, but all of us are involved in a journey\u2014a journey of encountering God. I want you to know\u2014He shows up on the mountaintops, and He\u2019s really there in the valley. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Actually, the story of Molly\u2019s life began when your daughter, Rebecca, and her husband Jake first got the news that they were going to be parents. Those days, throughout their pregnancy, were days of real joy and anticipation. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 I just loved being pregnant. It was so fun. I wasn\u2019t sick. I wasn\u2019t horribly tired.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 A lot of my joy would have been seeing all the joy that Becca had in being pregnant.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 I just enjoyed everything that was new about being pregnant\u2014you know, not being able to fit in my pants anymore.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 I thought, you know, \u201cHow cute she looks.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 You know, and then I\u2019m showing. That was really fun because then it was like, \u201cOkay, I really <em>am<\/em> pregnant,\u201d and then having people notice you, and ask you when you\u2019re due, and, \u201cDo you know what you\u2019re having?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 We decided not to find out her sex just to be old-fashioned.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 You know, \u201cDo you know what you\u2019re having?\u201d \u201cWell, I think it\u2019s a boy;\u201d and I heard everyone say, \u201cIt\u2019s a boy.\u201d Nobody ever said, \u201cOh, it\u2019s a girl.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 I said, if it was a boy, a really cool middle name would be Danger. So then, he could always say, \u201cDanger\u2019s my middle name.\u201d Becca kept saying, \u201cWell, what if we have a nerdy little boy?\u201d I said: \u201cDon\u2019t worry about it. I\u2019ll take care of that. We don\u2019t have to worry about that.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 Jacob\u2019s other grandpa, in Florida\u2014he even kept saying, \u201cHow\u2019s my grandson? How\u2019s my great grandson doing?\u201d\u2014you know.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 Or \u201cthe\u201d because, if he could have been named Jackson <em>the<\/em> Mutz, think about how neat that would be! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, I just expected a boy, you know; but I wanted a girl.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 For a girl, we liked Molly as the first name and Ann as a middle name. I was still kind of hoping that maybe when Becca saw him, if it was a boy, that she\u2019d be like, \u201cLooks like a Danger\u201d. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tShe kept thinking she maybe was having contractions and wasn\u2019t sure. So, she talked to her mom about it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 She went into labor on a Thursday morning sometime. I didn\u2019t talk to her until later in the afternoon because she wasn\u2019t really sure it was really it. I mean, you know, on your first one, you don\u2019t know anyway. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 It was more of an uncomfortable feeling\u2014other than just a tightening\u2014it was tightened, but then it\u2019d also hurt. I said, \u201cJake, I think we\u2019re going to have the baby today.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 So\u2014had a little bit of dinner. She didn\u2019t feel like eating very much.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 He\u2019s like: \u201cDo you want some food? You should eat! You\u2019re not going to get to eat anything when you get there.\u201d I\u2019m like: \u201cI\u2019m not hungry! Can we just go?\u201d\u2014you know. He\u2019s like, \u201cHow about some guacamole?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 They had said in the birthing classes\u2014that you\u2019re not going to get to eat for a long time.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u201cThis is really good guacamole,\u201d\u2014he\u2019s eating the guacamole. I\u2019m like: \u201cI\u2019m sure it\u2019s great. I don\u2019t want any! I\u2019m hurting! Can we please\u2026\u201d you know. He\u2019s like, \u201cOh, come on, you need to eat some food.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, she had a few bites.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 And then, they called\u2014I think on their way to the hospital\u2014about 8:00 at night or something. We went to bed, pretty sure that there was going to be a baby. We told them to call us in the middle of the night.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I woke up at 4:00. Of course, we hadn\u2019t heard anything. Barbara had her phone; I had my phone. I text to Jake, going, \u201cWhat\u2019s up?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 Phone became a really big problem.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 I was coaching\u2014encouraging her\u2014while simultaneously emailing people my BlackBerry<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, kind of, status updates. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, he\u2019s got my leg. Then, he\u2019s got his phone; and he\u2019s punching away and working on it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 I just figured\u2014in between contractions, you know\u2014it\u2019s an excellent time to be emailing status updates to friends and family.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 He emailed me back and said, \u201cShe\u2019s beginning to push.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 And I\u2019m like: \u201cPut the phone down! I need you to help me!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong>\u00a0 I got a text from him, right before I was going into a meeting on a Friday morning\u2014that Jacob said, \u201cI can see the crowning of the head.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 The nurse, one time, told me she was going to throw my phone out the window if I didn\u2019t put it down.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 She was a good nurse.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 The next thing I got was an email back that said, \u201cIt\u2019s a girl!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\u00a0\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 There\u2019s Miss Molly.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh! Oh my goodness. I can\u2019t believe it! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 Great job, Baby. I really thought it was going to be a boy. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 We knew it was going to be Molly if it was a girl.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>I love that name, Baby.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019m so glad it\u2019s over.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 Me, too. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 The first message was, \u201cIt\u2019s a girl.\u201d I think he put what time she was born, but it was real short. That was all the information he gave.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And then, <em>nothing<\/em> for 90 minutes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 All those texts were about ten minutes apart: \u201cI can see the head.\u201d \u201cShe\u2019s here.\u201d \u201cThere\u2019s a problem,\u201d and she wasn\u2019t really crying. She whimpered a little bit.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nurse:<\/strong> Come on, Sweetheart. Let\u2019s hear a nice big sound.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, they went ahead and were wiping her off to try to stimulate her\u2014kind of\u2014wiping her off roughly, and put her on Becca\u2019s stomach, and were kind of tapping her a little bit. And she still\u2014Molly still wasn\u2019t crying.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 She had a little whimper earlier.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nurse:<\/strong>\u00a0 Chomping her fingers. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 You know, they said\u2014you can tell it was a little bit of a concern, but it didn\u2019t seem anything that serious.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nurse:<\/strong>\u00a0 She\u2019s a little bit stung.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 Then they took her off of Becca\u2019s stomach.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh, she\u2019s precious. I want to see her again.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 They\u2019re working on her.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 I know, I know. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 And put her over into the warming cart.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nurse:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019m going to take her over here to warm her.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 They had the heart monitor and stuff\u2014and so they started to hook them up. They\u2014you know, people kept talking about, \u201cShe\u2019s not crying.\u201d They were doing that\u2014and that Becca kept asking\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong> Is she okay?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 I wasn\u2019t hearing anything. They were all over there with her. I kept asking: \u201cIs something wrong? Is she okay?\u201d Nobody would respond, and that\u2019s when I started to worry. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 I was just kind of watching everybody. You could definitely see\u2014every second that went by\u2014you could see an increase in the level of frenzy.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I just remember being\u2014I wouldn\u2019t say troubled\u2014but a little concerned.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 Dennis said he felt like something must not be right that we didn\u2019t\u2014he thought something\u2014it was kind of odd that they hadn\u2019t called.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nurse:<\/strong> They\u2019ll tell you\u2014ask you who you are.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 Molly Ann. There she goes.\u00a0 She needs to cry a little bit here.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think, at the end of the hour-and-a-half, we got a phone call from either Rebecca or Jake saying that Molly had been whisked away after birth because she didn\u2019t cry for four minutes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u00a0[Molly whimpering]\u00a0\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 There you go.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nurse:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, let\u2019s just see.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Molly crying louder]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 There you go\u2014little girl. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 If I had been there, I would have panicked with her not crying right away; but they\u2019d never been through this before. I don\u2019t think they realized the fact that she didn\u2019t cry right away was an indication that something might be wrong.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 Looks like she\u2019s still got some goop in her mouth.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Pam:<\/strong>\u00a0 Now, this is where my mind begins to flag\u2014red flag. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>You scared us so much.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Pam: <\/strong>So that\u2019s when I was wondering: \u201cAre we go out sooner?\u201d or, \u201cAre we going to just wait to go out?\u201d or, \u201cIs it imperative that we get out there?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 I should know this better.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 You\u2019re watching it now, and you\u2019re going: \u201cThere\u2019s something wrong! Come on! Get her with oxygen.\u201d\u2014like, \u201cHurry up!\u201d As soon as they put her oxygen on, she was so much better. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s her oxygen level\u2014is 45 percent? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nurse: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake: <\/strong>So, what would be normal?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 You could just tell\u2014they would take the little hood off, and she would start to cry again.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 The more they worked it on her, the less sense of peace I had.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nurse:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019m just curious with her murmur.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think I overheard them talk about a heart murmur.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Nurse:<\/strong> The echo of it we got. It didn\u2019t show anything obvious just yet. So, what we need to do is we need to have a pediatric cardiologist take a look at it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 I got to hold her before Flight for Life took her away to Children\u2019s. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, that\u2019s disconcerting because you just don\u2019t take a baby to Children\u2019s over nothing.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 And if anyone can fix it, Children\u2019s can.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 We are in the United States of America. You know, this is a great country; and they have great technology. I\u2019m definitely an optimist\u2014and that\u2019s something\u2014and I\u2019d say that Becca\u2019s an optimist.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 I thought she might have to have surgery. It\u2019s really sad, and that would be really hard; but she\u2019s not going to die. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Pam: <\/strong>I\u2019ve seen God just walk beside us through so many valleys, and floods, and fires\u2014and knowing that He could give Jacob and Becca that same grace for whatever the situation that they were going to begin walking through.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 They let me hold her. They had the oxygen mask right in front of her face so I really didn\u2019t get to see her all that well. Then, they put her inside the little cube and took her away.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 Would you do it all over again?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 I would do it all over again.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 You know, I would marry you all over again, Baby. So, getting there was extremely important.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Pam:<\/strong>\u00a0 One of my good friends has a daughter who is a doctor in Denver\u2014in the pediatric area. It ended up that she does work at that hospital. She got a hold of Bill, after she had seen the MRI, and said, \u201cMr. Mutz, it would be very important for you to get out here as soon as possible.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong>\u00a0 Pam and I immediately packed everything up.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 I already had a ticket to fly out that day. So, I started throwing my things together because I was going that day anyway.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 But I had booked a flight to go directly in the evening after work.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Rebecca:<\/strong>\u00a0 They said that I could leave, you know, \u201c\u2026once you feel better.\u201d They started giving me some pain meds, and I started to feel better. When your baby\u2019s somewhere else, you don\u2019t care how you feel\u2014you just want out. I didn\u2019t care what I was feeling\u2014and it hurt. I was in pain, but my heart hurt more than my body did.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 We met Jake right outside of where Molly was being cared for. He said: \u201cIt\u2019s not a heart problem. She\u2019s going to need brain surgery.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong>\u00a0 And that is when my concern gravely shifted because, frankly, there\u2019s been a lot of wonderful work done on heart problems, with kids today. When you get into a brain issue\u2014and I, now, know that there\u2019s a heart issue, as well\u2014and, \u201cHow does the heart issue relate to the brain issue?\u201d\u2014then you get very, very concerned.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 The brain surgery news did not go down well with me. At that point, the alarm started going off with me.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong>\u00a0 But when I turned, and I looked at Molly, then, I just wept.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 We encountered this little seven-pound little girl, who had multiple tubes going in her mouth. She was being fed through her belly-button for IV. She was receiving heart medication. She was sedated to keep her from being anxious because of the tubes and everything. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou know, you walk into that setting and you\u2019re unprepared\u2014you know, you\u2019re just not seeing a baby. I had\u2014we just were not prepared for that moment. I just remember\u2014it just kind of took your breath away.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 Dear Lord, just thank You for this precious, precious gift\u2014this little girl.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong>\u00a0 What a great picture this is of the fact that we don\u2019t have control over circumstances in life and how dependant we truly are.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You begin to realize how fragile and frail life is, as it starts out\u2014the gravity of the situation begins to grow.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 We pray that You would just continue to prepare us, as parents.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong>\u00a0 There\u2019s such great dependence on God, and such total dependence on whether or not He works a miracle through this\u2014which would be our heart\u2019s desire\u2014or whether or not we trust in what He\u2019s trying to accomplish through it, which is ultimately His desire.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Hospital Recording]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jake:<\/strong>\u00a0 And Lord, just for her heart\u2014that You would bring glory\u2014quickly, miraculously do it. In Your name, Amen. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Interview]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I mean\u2014it\u2019s like a descent. You\u2019re descending down into a valley.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bill:<\/strong>\u00a0 When we saw Molly, I think that personified all of that emotion. You realize that that\u2019s where they\u2019re going to be, and that\u2019s what this week\u2019s going to be about.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Studio]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You know, I remember you saying, many times in the days that followed this story beginning to unfold, that you don\u2019t know what people do in these moments if they don\u2019t have a faith that there\u2019s a God who is in control of all that\u2019s taking place.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I cannot imagine. I cannot imagine. You would only be left to profound denial\u2014almost like a denial of gravity\u2014because when a little baby is suffering, it is\u2014it\u2019s riveting\u2014I mean, all of life blurs out. Everything is focused in that little life. Earlier, I talked about descending into a valley. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tEven listening to it again here, today, I wrote down the word <em>plunged<\/em> into the valley. There was no descent. I was immediately taken back to those moments. Until I heard, just a few moments ago, some of the recordings from the delivery room, I had never heard Molly cry. I\u2019d never heard any utterance from her. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019d not heard any of the dialogue from the delivery room and the concern that began to be expressed by the doctors. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tObviously, I know where the story goes for the next few days. I\u2019ll tell you\u2014it was an interesting emotion\u2014just to think back on that moment of how the birth of a baby represents so much hope, and expectancy, and such gratefulness to God. We can so take it for granted. We can so take that moment that God gives life for granted. He\u2019s a good God as He gives life, and He\u2019s a good God when He takes life.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBarbara and Rebecca, sometime later, got together and have put together their thoughts and experiences that have become a book. At the beginning of the book, they have written\u2014Barbara writes something I just want to share with our listeners because it\u2019s a great description of what you\u2019re going to experience, this week, on <em>FamilyLife Today.<\/em> \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tShe writes: \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen I hear Handel, Beethoven, or Bach, I think how profoundly moving music can be. I feel my soul lifted, called to something higher\u2014something nobler\u2014something more perfect than this fallen world has to offer. It invades my mundane, ordinary existence; and as I listen, I feel transported, as if the music has escaped from another realm. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tA grand and glorious symphony has been written; and for seven dark but beautiful days, I heard the strains of its melody. The musical score came from heaven, with the debut of a tiny, helpless baby. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>21:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHer song was complex, yet perfectly written. Frail as she was, this little one took center stage and, without uttering a word, stirred the passions of the thousands who listened. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tElegant music has a lingering effect, and so did the hymn of this tiny life. She touched me, and I am left with a divinely beautiful memory, changed forever by having heard a few measures of His symphony in her brief but mighty life. [Emotion in voice]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBe still and listen. May you, too, feel the wonder of this great mystery\u2014that one so small could lead so many to hear the everlasting song. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI realize, as I\u2019m reading this, that I have an emotion that, again, I know listeners aren\u2019t necessarily experiencing right now.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>22:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut I pray, before this week is over, that somehow Almighty God\u2014the same One who met us in the midst of the valley\u2014will meet you and give some fresh meaning to your faith, in the midst of the mundane. I pray that you will hear a symphony because it really is a beautiful story.
