I never thought I\u2019d marry a dropper. My mom married a dropper, and I told myself I\u2019d never marry a dropper. I\u2019ve married a dropper, I can\u2019t believe it! And if he loved me, he wouldn\u2019t be dropping his towel!\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou think, \u201cIt\u2019s a towel!\u201d How is it that we\u2019ve gotten life down to that level, where those little things are the places where we\u2019re living, and keeping score, and skirmishing? It is crazy! Where is God in all of that? [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>I suppose you could! I suppose you could. I think, in her case\u2014I don\u2019t know that this lasted for a long time\u2014but the first Saturday morning, after we had been married\u2014she\u2019s an early riser, and I\u2019m more of a sleeper-inner; you know?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes, like how late would you sleep in on Saturday morning?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Well, in college\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Just give us a little context.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>In college\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Well, I understand in college; but I\u2019m talking about after you got married.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Well, it wasn\u2019t that far after college that I got married. So, I hadn\u2019t had many Saturdays other than my college Saturdays. In college, I\u2019d sleep until lunch\u2014you know, until 11.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Meanwhile, Mary Ann\u2019s getting up at 6.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>She\u2019ll just wake up when the sun gets up.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>She\u2019s been up half the day by the time you\u2019re crawling out of the sheets.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>So, the first Saturday morning\u2014that we were man and wife\u20149:00\u2014I\u2019m still sacked-out. Room is dark; it\u2019s good. Life is good. [Chuckles] She\u2019s been up for a couple of hours around the house. It\u2019s kind of lonely without her husband up. So, she came in and raised the shades in the bedroom\u20149:00 in the morning. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI thought: \u201cWhat? What\u2014who is this person, and who let them into my house?\u201d I peered out from one eye and said, \u201cWhat are you doing?\u201d That kind of hurt her feelings when I said that\u2014you know, it was kind of my first impression. I think she said, \u201cGood morning,\u201d\u2014I said, \u201cWhat are you doing?\u201d She said, \u201cWell, it is 9:00.\u201d I said, \u201cYes?\u201d She got that I didn\u2019t really want to wake up; so she left the room. I lay there; and I thought, \u201cThis is not good.\u201d [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I decided, about an hour-and-a-half later, to get up and go on out into the kitchen. I went ahead and slept for a little while longer and walked out\u2014and we had this: \u201cWhy did you come raise the shade?\u201d \u201cWell,\u201d she said, \u201cMy dad used to get up on Saturday mornings and start in on his to-do list.\u201d I thought, \u201cWell, you didn\u2019t marry your dad; and aren\u2019t you glad?\u201d You know?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt was just this little kind of eye-opening\u2014if you\u2019ll pardon the pun\u2014moment in our marriage, where we kind of looked at each other and thought, \u201cYou had expectations that I didn\u2019t know anything about, and I had some expectations you didn\u2019t know anything about.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes, and I\u2019m going to ask our resident counselor, who joins us again on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>, Paul David Tripp. Paul\u2014welcome back to the broadcast.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Paul: <\/strong>Thank you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I\u2019m going to ask you because you head up a counseling ministry\u2014you write, you speak, you teach. You\u2019ve written a book called <em>What Did You Expect?<\/em> It\u2019s talking about expectations. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI mean, here\u2019s Mary Ann, who thinks the day\u2019s going to start with her husband when she starts it. All of a sudden, it\u2019s a rude awakening\u2014pardon the pun on my side there, too. This marriage is going to need to practice forgiveness, and reconciliation, and restoration; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Paul: <\/strong>That\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Where do they begin as you look at the issue of forgiveness, reconciliation, and restoration?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Paul: <\/strong>Here\u2019s where I think the realistic expectations are so important\u2014that if it\u2019s a sinner \/ flawed person married to a flawed person\u2014if that DNA of selfishness is there\u2014confession and forgiveness needs to be a regular, daily lifestyle. We go in, knowing we need this pattern. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne other thing I think that\u2019s very helpful\u2014if, as a couple, you give the other person permission to cry, \u201cFoul,\u201d so they have the permission to come to you. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI don\u2019t think the average person wants to be confronted. What happens when you\u2019re confronted? Someone comes to you; and right away, it activates your inner lawyer. I\u2019m more concerned about your inner lawyer than your inner child because I think your inner lawyer is actually more active. [Laughter] And you start defending yourself\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Defense attorney.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Paul: <\/strong>Yes, and you\u2019re not thankful. You\u2019re not willing. You don\u2019t hear. Well, the Bible speaks against that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m a bit of a mess. Jesus is not done with me yet. I need a wife to talk to me. I need those little things pointed out to me. Why would I want to defend myself when that only leads to bad stuff?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I want to talk about confession, in just a moment, because I don\u2019t think the Christian community\u2014and I\u2019m talking about the community of faith\u2014people who profess to follow Christ\u2014know how to truly confess, either with God or with their spouse. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut I want to back up to the little interaction you\u2019re talking about where you go to Luella, your wife, and you confront her about something she said or did to disappoint you, or hurt you, etc. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong> \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tCoach a man \/ coach a woman on how you go because it\u2019s not just a matter of picking up a spiritual two-by-four and whacking the other person between the eyes. There is a way we go to our spouse in marriage that can gain a hearing and have a great chance, of not only of our spouse hearing what we said, but perhaps repenting and saying they\u2019re sorry for what they did.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Paul: <\/strong>Well, again, you don\u2019t do it by getting up in a person\u2019s face\u2014and bulging eyes, bulging veins, inflammatory words, pointed finger\u2014because no one ever feels open in those moments. No one ever feels helped by those moments. That just stimulates that inner lawyer. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>So, no emotional escalation should occur, at this point?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Paul: <\/strong>Yes. In fact, if I\u2019m going to get at your heart, I have to get a hold of my heart first. So, I got to step away from the moment a little bit. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLet me give you a particular. I\u2019m a very time-oriented guy. I know life is a series of agendas for me. I\u2019m project-oriented. I know exactly what I want to accomplish every day. I know exactly what hour everything should take place. Think of what it\u2019s like to live with me! [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, Monday is the day that Luella and I spend with one another\u2014sacrosanct. There\u2019s a particular Monday where she has to be away. We\u2019ve agreed that it\u2019s good for her to be away, but she\u2019s supposed to be home at 4:00. Four-o-five [4:05], I\u2019m already uptight. So, I make one of those dear, sweet calls to her on the cell phone: \u201cWhere are you?\u201d\u2014one word. She says, \u201cWell, I\u2019m just a little distance from home.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cHow long are you going to be?\u201d\u2014one word. She says, \u201cWell, I\u2019m stuck in traffic.\u201d I\u2019m being impatient\u2014nasty for no reason, at all. She\u2019s stuck in traffic. It\u2019s all about my selfish little self. Ten minutes doesn\u2019t make a bit of difference in that moment. So, Luella <em>doesn\u2019t<\/em> come to the door and say to me: \u201cYou know what it\u2019s like to live with you? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI don\u2019t need your junk when I\u2019m in traffic! Get off my back and leave me alone! I\u2019m <em>tired<\/em> of your time-stuff!\u201d That doesn\u2019t benefit her; doesn\u2019t benefit me. We haven\u2019t grown in unity, and love, and understanding a bit. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut Luella doesn\u2019t do that. Later on, in the evening, she says to me: \u201cYou know I love you. You know I have<em> loved<\/em> being part of your life. I have<em> loved<\/em> being a part of your ministry. I love the journey we\u2019re taking, but there are times when you\u2019re a bit of a crazy man.\u201d And we both laugh. She said: \u201cLike this afternoon. It didn\u2019t make any difference, Paul; but think about what\u2019s going on for me. You don\u2019t say, \u2018I\u2019m so excited to see you in a few minutes.\u2019 You\u2019re beating me up for something I didn\u2019t have anything to do with.\u201d I say: \u201cYou know\u2014you are right. Please forgive me and help me. I need help. Time becomes too important to me; and when it does, it creates problems for us.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, a lot of my willingness has to do with the way Luella approached me because she\u2019s thinking:\u00a0 <em>not<\/em>, \u201cHow can I tell this man how hard it is to live with him?\u201d She\u2019s thinking, \u201cHow can I be an instrument, in God\u2019s hands, in the life of this man?\u201d That\u2019s big kingdom-stuff. Little kingdom-stuff is, \u201cI want to tell you what it\u2019s like to live with you.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>What Luella really models for us, there, is Ephesians 4, where it says: \u201cSpeaking the truth in love.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, I want you to comment on confession because I think there are a lot of Christians who are real sneaky or cheap on their confession. They don\u2019t want to admit to much. They want to say, \u201cWell, I\u2019m sorry you felt that way;\u201d but that hasn\u2019t been a confession of anything. They don\u2019t want to admit anything that they\u2019re doing is wrong.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong> \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tComment, if you would, about: \u201cWhat is the appropriate way for us to confess to our spouse when we have hurt them, done something wrong, omitted something we should have done?\u201d because I think we need help here.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Paul: <\/strong>Well, I want to say a couple of things. I think that what erodes confession is self-righteousness because I want to believe that my biggest problem is outside of me, not inside of me. That will always weaken confession. I\u2019m going to hurt the feelings of everyone who\u2019s listening: \u201cAll of us are very skilled self-swindlers because we want to think that we\u2019re more righteous than we are, and that always erodes confession.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHere\u2019s what confession is\u2014it\u2019s owning personal responsibility for my words and behavior, before God and the appropriate people, without excuse or shifting the blame. That\u2019s confession. Most of what we call confession just isn\u2019t. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Tell our listeners about when you got to the point, in your relationship with Luella, around the anger issue that you made genuine confession and how that event transpired.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Paul: <\/strong>Well I was on a ministry weekend with my brother, Ted. On our way home, he said: \u201cPaul, shouldn\u2019t we make this weekend practical to our own lives? Why don\u2019t you start?\u201d He began to ask me questions about my marriage. It was as if God was ripping down curtains, and I saw myself in ways I had never seen myself before. I heard myself. I heard all of the things that Luella had said.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You\u2019d been married how long, at this point?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Paul: <\/strong>Maybe 10\/15 years.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Paul: <\/strong>I was the pastor. There was a huge disconnect between my public persona and my private life. It was a disaster. I went home that night\u2014now, very broken, very grieved\u2014because I saw myself. That\u2019s the convicting ministry of the Holy Spirit. I\u2019m a guy with a lively sense of humor\u2014I come into the house goofy. I came into the house, serious; and Luella knew something was up. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI said, \u201cCould we talk?\u201d I said: \u201cI know, for years, you have been trying to talk to me about my anger\u2014its impact on our marriage. I\u2019ve always defended myself.\u201d One time, I told her that 95 percent of the women at our church would love to be married to a man like me. How is that for humility? Luella very quickly informed me that she was in the \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t5 percent. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat night, when I said to her, \u201cI\u2019m willing to listen,\u201d I\u2019ll never forget what happened next. She told me she loved me, and she burst into tears. She told me she loved me and she talked for two hours\u2014that two hours was not a zap of lightning\u2014it wasn\u2019t an event where I was changed\u2014but this is important to get\u2014I was, now, a man with open eyes, open ears, and open heart. I saw anger everywhere. I became a spiritually-needy man. That\u2019s a very good thing! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tA process of change began. I\u2019ll never forget\u2014one afternoon, coming down the steps in our house, into the living room. I saw Luella sitting, with her back to me, waiting for some of our children to come home from school. I couldn\u2019t remember the last time I experienced that old, ugly anger. Now, I was still capable of a flash of irritation, but that life-dominating anger was gone. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI put my hands on her shoulders; and I said, \u201cYou know, I\u2019m not angry at you anymore.\u201d She looked up at me, with tears in her eyes. We laughed and cried, at that moment. It was a process\u2014not an event\u2014but that confession, and repentance, and forgiveness was a <em>very, very significant<\/em> part of that process. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Paul, I think, if the Christian community\u2014on a ten-point scale\u2014scores a five in confessing and forgiving one another, we score a one or a two on reconciliation and restoration. Let\u2019s continue on with the illustration of your anger. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHow were you reconciled and restored in your relationship with your wife, coming out of this situation where you confessed? I assume\u2014sought her forgiveness\u2014and she gave you her forgiveness\u2014but how were you then, in that process, reconciled and then restored?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Paul: <\/strong>Well, if confession and forgiveness is a lifestyle, it must be followed with a commitment to growth and change. I love the call to Jeremiah. It is: \u201cI\u2019m sending you to uproot and to plant, to tear down and to build.\u201d So, I had to say to Luella: \u201cHelp me. What are the weeds that need to be pulled? What are the habits of my anger? Help me because I\u2019ve been blind.\u201d I did not see myself as an angry man. So, you have to address with specificity. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tRepentance is a change of heart that leads to a change in the direction of your life. You have to get concrete. Then, you pull weeds; and you plant seeds. What are the replacements that God is calling you to? So, here\u2019s one: \u201cI don\u2019t view my schedule as more important than my spouse.\u201d I have to plant that seed. Now, what does that mean for me?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Do you tell her that as well\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Paul: <\/strong>Sure, absolutely.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014so that she can hold you accountable?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Paul: <\/strong>Absolutely, because I need help. So, if you confess sin, you have to pull weeds, plant seeds, and then you have to ask the question, \u201cWhere has trust been damaged, and how can I rebuild trust?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHere is what I think is exciting about that. This big, weird concept of worship\u2014we now make it real specific. It\u2019s very practical. \u201cI love God more than anything else,\u201d\u2014so I\u2019m going to admit my sin, and I\u2019m going to ask for forgiveness. \u201cI love God more than anything else,\u201d\u2014 so I\u2019m not going to live my way\u2014pull up weeds. I\u2019m going to live His way\u2014plant seeds. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cI love God, and I know He\u2019s honored by this relationship being a trusting relationship. It\u2019s a place where people can see His kingdom operating, and they can get help. So, I want to build trust.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>What you\u2019ve just talked about, in terms of a process, is something I don\u2019t think we come into marriage with hardly any true skills. We may know the Scriptures\u2014that: \u201cYes, we\u2019re supposed to speak the truth in love,\u201d \u201cYes, we\u2019re to forgive,\u201d \u201cWe\u2019re to confess,\u201d \u201cWe\u2019re to be reconciled,\u201d \u201cWe\u2019re to be restored;\u201d but we need help in being able to do that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat\u2019s why I really like what you\u2019ve written about, here in your book, <em>What Did You Expect?<\/em> You\u2019ve helped people\u2014who disappoint each other, who hurt one another\u2014practically\u2014as two broken people move toward oneness\u2014move toward oneness with God, and His agenda, and His will\u2014but also oneness with one another and seeking the best for the one loved.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong> \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>It\u2019s not only a theme that you explore in the book\u2014<em>What Did You Expect?<\/em>\u2014but it\u2019s something that we had you talk about when we interviewed you for <em>The Art of Marriage.<\/em> Paul is one of the dozen or more folks who speak on the subject of marriage as part of <em>The Art of Marriage <\/em>video series\u2014along with Voddie Baucham, and Crawford Loritts, and Dennis Rainey, and Michael Easley, and Al Mohler, and Russell Moore, and a whole bunch of other folks\u2014who offer practical, biblical counsel on marriage in this day-and-a-half video event that now 350,000 people have viewed over the last two-and-a-half years. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAgain, we\u2019re aiming for Valentine\u2019s Day, in 2014, as a strategic date when you could host an <em>Art of Marriage<\/em> event. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>I suppose you could! I suppose you could. I think, in her case\u2014I don\u2019t know that this lasted for a long time\u2014but the first Saturday morning, after we had been married\u2014she\u2019s an early riser, and I\u2019m more of a sleeper-inner; you know?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes, like how late would you sleep in on Saturday morning?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Well, in college\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Just give us a little context.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>In college\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Well, I understand in college; but I\u2019m talking about after you got married.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Well, it wasn\u2019t that far after college that I got married. So, I hadn\u2019t had many Saturdays other than my college Saturdays. In college, I\u2019d sleep until lunch\u2014you know, until 11.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Meanwhile, Mary Ann\u2019s getting up at 6.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>She\u2019ll just wake up when the sun gets up.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>She\u2019s been up half the day by the time you\u2019re crawling out of the sheets.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>So, the first Saturday morning\u2014that we were man and wife\u20149:00\u2014I\u2019m still sacked-out. Room is dark; it\u2019s good. Life is good. [Chuckles] She\u2019s been up for a couple of hours around the house. It\u2019s kind of lonely without her husband up. So, she came in and raised the shades in the bedroom\u20149:00 in the morning. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI thought: \u201cWhat? What\u2014who is this person, and who let them into my house?\u201d I peered out from one eye and said, \u201cWhat are you doing?\u201d That kind of hurt her feelings when I said that\u2014you know, it was kind of my first impression. I think she said, \u201cGood morning,\u201d\u2014I said, \u201cWhat are you doing?\u201d She said, \u201cWell, it is 9:00.\u201d I said, \u201cYes?\u201d She got that I didn\u2019t really want to wake up; so she left the room. I lay there; and I thought, \u201cThis is not good.\u201d [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I decided, about an hour-and-a-half later, to get up and go on out into the kitchen. I went ahead and slept for a little while longer and walked out\u2014and we had this: \u201cWhy did you come raise the shade?\u201d \u201cWell,\u201d she said, \u201cMy dad used to get up on Saturday mornings and start in on his to-do list.\u201d I thought, \u201cWell, you didn\u2019t marry your dad; and aren\u2019t you glad?\u201d You know?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt was just this little kind of eye-opening\u2014if you\u2019ll pardon the pun\u2014moment in our marriage, where we kind of looked at each other and thought, \u201cYou had expectations that I didn\u2019t know anything about, and I had some expectations you didn\u2019t know anything about.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes, and I\u2019m going to ask our resident counselor, who joins us again on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>, Paul David Tripp. Paul\u2014welcome back to the broadcast.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Paul: <\/strong>Thank you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I\u2019m going to ask you because you head up a counseling ministry\u2014you write, you speak, you teach. You\u2019ve written a book called <em>What Did You Expect?<\/em> It\u2019s talking about expectations. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI mean, here\u2019s Mary Ann, who thinks the day\u2019s going to start with her husband when she starts it. All of a sudden, it\u2019s a rude awakening\u2014pardon the pun on my side there, too. This marriage is going to need to practice forgiveness, and reconciliation, and restoration; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Paul: <\/strong>That\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Where do they begin as you look at the issue of forgiveness, reconciliation, and restoration?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Paul: <\/strong>Here\u2019s where I think the realistic expectations are so important\u2014that if it\u2019s a sinner \/ flawed person married to a flawed person\u2014if that DNA of selfishness is there\u2014confession and forgiveness needs to be a regular, daily lifestyle. We go in, knowing we need this pattern. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne other thing I think that\u2019s very helpful\u2014if, as a couple, you give the other person permission to cry, \u201cFoul,\u201d so they have the permission to come to you. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI don\u2019t think the average person wants to be confronted. What happens when you\u2019re confronted? Someone comes to you; and right away, it activates your inner lawyer. I\u2019m more concerned about your inner lawyer than your inner child because I think your inner lawyer is actually more active. [Laughter] And you start defending yourself\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Defense attorney.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Paul: <\/strong>Yes, and you\u2019re not thankful. You\u2019re not willing. You don\u2019t hear. Well, the Bible speaks against that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m a bit of a mess. Jesus is not done with me yet. I need a wife to talk to me. I need those little things pointed out to me. Why would I want to defend myself when that only leads to bad stuff?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I want to talk about confession, in just a moment, because I don\u2019t think the Christian community\u2014and I\u2019m talking about the community of faith\u2014people who profess to follow Christ\u2014know how to truly confess, either with God or with their spouse. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut I want to back up to the little interaction you\u2019re talking about where you go to Luella, your wife, and you confront her about something she said or did to disappoint you, or hurt you, etc. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong> \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tCoach a man \/ coach a woman on how you go because it\u2019s not just a matter of picking up a spiritual two-by-four and whacking the other person between the eyes. There is a way we go to our spouse in marriage that can gain a hearing and have a great chance, of not only of our spouse hearing what we said, but perhaps repenting and saying they\u2019re sorry for what they did.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Paul: <\/strong>Well, again, you don\u2019t do it by getting up in a person\u2019s face\u2014and bulging eyes, bulging veins, inflammatory words, pointed finger\u2014because no one ever feels open in those moments. No one ever feels helped by those moments. That just stimulates that inner lawyer. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>So, no emotional escalation should occur, at this point?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Paul: <\/strong>Yes. In fact, if I\u2019m going to get at your heart, I have to get a hold of my heart first. So, I got to step away from the moment a little bit. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLet me give you a particular. I\u2019m a very time-oriented guy. I know life is a series of agendas for me. I\u2019m project-oriented. I know exactly what I want to accomplish every day. I know exactly what hour everything should take place. Think of what it\u2019s like to live with me! [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, Monday is the day that Luella and I spend with one another\u2014sacrosanct. There\u2019s a particular Monday where she has to be away. We\u2019ve agreed that it\u2019s good for her to be away, but she\u2019s supposed to be home at 4:00. Four-o-five [4:05], I\u2019m already uptight. So, I make one of those dear, sweet calls to her on the cell phone: \u201cWhere are you?\u201d\u2014one word. She says, \u201cWell, I\u2019m just a little distance from home.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cHow long are you going to be?\u201d\u2014one word. She says, \u201cWell, I\u2019m stuck in traffic.\u201d I\u2019m being impatient\u2014nasty for no reason, at all. She\u2019s stuck in traffic. It\u2019s all about my selfish little self. Ten minutes doesn\u2019t make a bit of difference in that moment. So, Luella <em>doesn\u2019t<\/em> come to the door and say to me: \u201cYou know what it\u2019s like to live with you? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI don\u2019t need your junk when I\u2019m in traffic! Get off my back and leave me alone! I\u2019m <em>tired<\/em> of your time-stuff!\u201d That doesn\u2019t benefit her; doesn\u2019t benefit me. We haven\u2019t grown in unity, and love, and understanding a bit. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut Luella doesn\u2019t do that. Later on, in the evening, she says to me: \u201cYou know I love you. You know I have<em> loved<\/em> being part of your life. I have<em> loved<\/em> being a part of your ministry. I love the journey we\u2019re taking, but there are times when you\u2019re a bit of a crazy man.\u201d And we both laugh. She said: \u201cLike this afternoon. It didn\u2019t make any difference, Paul; but think about what\u2019s going on for me. You don\u2019t say, \u2018I\u2019m so excited to see you in a few minutes.\u2019 You\u2019re beating me up for something I didn\u2019t have anything to do with.\u201d I say: \u201cYou know\u2014you are right. Please forgive me and help me. I need help. Time becomes too important to me; and when it does, it creates problems for us.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, a lot of my willingness has to do with the way Luella approached me because she\u2019s thinking:\u00a0 <em>not<\/em>, \u201cHow can I tell this man how hard it is to live with him?\u201d She\u2019s thinking, \u201cHow can I be an instrument, in God\u2019s hands, in the life of this man?\u201d That\u2019s big kingdom-stuff. Little kingdom-stuff is, \u201cI want to tell you what it\u2019s like to live with you.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>What Luella really models for us, there, is Ephesians 4, where it says: \u201cSpeaking the truth in love.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, I want you to comment on confession because I think there are a lot of Christians who are real sneaky or cheap on their confession. They don\u2019t want to admit to much. They want to say, \u201cWell, I\u2019m sorry you felt that way;\u201d but that hasn\u2019t been a confession of anything. They don\u2019t want to admit anything that they\u2019re doing is wrong.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong> \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tComment, if you would, about: \u201cWhat is the appropriate way for us to confess to our spouse when we have hurt them, done something wrong, omitted something we should have done?\u201d because I think we need help here.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Paul: <\/strong>Well, I want to say a couple of things. I think that what erodes confession is self-righteousness because I want to believe that my biggest problem is outside of me, not inside of me. That will always weaken confession. I\u2019m going to hurt the feelings of everyone who\u2019s listening: \u201cAll of us are very skilled self-swindlers because we want to think that we\u2019re more righteous than we are, and that always erodes confession.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHere\u2019s what confession is\u2014it\u2019s owning personal responsibility for my words and behavior, before God and the appropriate people, without excuse or shifting the blame. That\u2019s confession. Most of what we call confession just isn\u2019t. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Tell our listeners about when you got to the point, in your relationship with Luella, around the anger issue that you made genuine confession and how that event transpired.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Paul: <\/strong>Well I was on a ministry weekend with my brother, Ted. On our way home, he said: \u201cPaul, shouldn\u2019t we make this weekend practical to our own lives? Why don\u2019t you start?\u201d He began to ask me questions about my marriage. It was as if God was ripping down curtains, and I saw myself in ways I had never seen myself before. I heard myself. I heard all of the things that Luella had said.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You\u2019d been married how long, at this point?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Paul: <\/strong>Maybe 10\/15 years.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Paul: <\/strong>I was the pastor. There was a huge disconnect between my public persona and my private life. It was a disaster. I went home that night\u2014now, very broken, very grieved\u2014because I saw myself. That\u2019s the convicting ministry of the Holy Spirit. I\u2019m a guy with a lively sense of humor\u2014I come into the house goofy. I came into the house, serious; and Luella knew something was up. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI said, \u201cCould we talk?\u201d I said: \u201cI know, for years, you have been trying to talk to me about my anger\u2014its impact on our marriage. I\u2019ve always defended myself.\u201d One time, I told her that 95 percent of the women at our church would love to be married to a man like me. How is that for humility? Luella very quickly informed me that she was in the \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t5 percent. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat night, when I said to her, \u201cI\u2019m willing to listen,\u201d I\u2019ll never forget what happened next. She told me she loved me, and she burst into tears. She told me she loved me and she talked for two hours\u2014that two hours was not a zap of lightning\u2014it wasn\u2019t an event where I was changed\u2014but this is important to get\u2014I was, now, a man with open eyes, open ears, and open heart. I saw anger everywhere. I became a spiritually-needy man. That\u2019s a very good thing! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tA process of change began. I\u2019ll never forget\u2014one afternoon, coming down the steps in our house, into the living room. I saw Luella sitting, with her back to me, waiting for some of our children to come home from school. I couldn\u2019t remember the last time I experienced that old, ugly anger. Now, I was still capable of a flash of irritation, but that life-dominating anger was gone. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI put my hands on her shoulders; and I said, \u201cYou know, I\u2019m not angry at you anymore.\u201d She looked up at me, with tears in her eyes. We laughed and cried, at that moment. It was a process\u2014not an event\u2014but that confession, and repentance, and forgiveness was a <em>very, very significant<\/em> part of that process. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Paul, I think, if the Christian community\u2014on a ten-point scale\u2014scores a five in confessing and forgiving one another, we score a one or a two on reconciliation and restoration. Let\u2019s continue on with the illustration of your anger. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHow were you reconciled and restored in your relationship with your wife, coming out of this situation where you confessed? I assume\u2014sought her forgiveness\u2014and she gave you her forgiveness\u2014but how were you then, in that process, reconciled and then restored?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Paul: <\/strong>Well, if confession and forgiveness is a lifestyle, it must be followed with a commitment to growth and change. I love the call to Jeremiah. It is: \u201cI\u2019m sending you to uproot and to plant, to tear down and to build.\u201d So, I had to say to Luella: \u201cHelp me. What are the weeds that need to be pulled? What are the habits of my anger? Help me because I\u2019ve been blind.\u201d I did not see myself as an angry man. So, you have to address with specificity. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tRepentance is a change of heart that leads to a change in the direction of your life. You have to get concrete. Then, you pull weeds; and you plant seeds. What are the replacements that God is calling you to? So, here\u2019s one: \u201cI don\u2019t view my schedule as more important than my spouse.\u201d I have to plant that seed. Now, what does that mean for me?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Do you tell her that as well\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Paul: <\/strong>Sure, absolutely.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014so that she can hold you accountable?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Paul: <\/strong>Absolutely, because I need help. So, if you confess sin, you have to pull weeds, plant seeds, and then you have to ask the question, \u201cWhere has trust been damaged, and how can I rebuild trust?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHere is what I think is exciting about that. This big, weird concept of worship\u2014we now make it real specific. It\u2019s very practical. \u201cI love God more than anything else,\u201d\u2014so I\u2019m going to admit my sin, and I\u2019m going to ask for forgiveness. \u201cI love God more than anything else,\u201d\u2014 so I\u2019m not going to live my way\u2014pull up weeds. I\u2019m going to live His way\u2014plant seeds. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cI love God, and I know He\u2019s honored by this relationship being a trusting relationship. It\u2019s a place where people can see His kingdom operating, and they can get help. So, I want to build trust.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>What you\u2019ve just talked about, in terms of a process, is something I don\u2019t think we come into marriage with hardly any true skills. We may know the Scriptures\u2014that: \u201cYes, we\u2019re supposed to speak the truth in love,\u201d \u201cYes, we\u2019re to forgive,\u201d \u201cWe\u2019re to confess,\u201d \u201cWe\u2019re to be reconciled,\u201d \u201cWe\u2019re to be restored;\u201d but we need help in being able to do that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat\u2019s why I really like what you\u2019ve written about, here in your book, <em>What Did You Expect?<\/em> You\u2019ve helped people\u2014who disappoint each other, who hurt one another\u2014practically\u2014as two broken people move toward oneness\u2014move toward oneness with God, and His agenda, and His will\u2014but also oneness with one another and seeking the best for the one loved.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong> \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>It\u2019s not only a theme that you explore in the book\u2014<em>What Did You Expect?<\/em>\u2014but it\u2019s something that we had you talk about when we interviewed you for <em>The Art of Marriage.<\/em> Paul is one of the dozen or more folks who speak on the subject of marriage as part of <em>The Art of Marriage <\/em>video series\u2014along with Voddie Baucham, and Crawford Loritts, and Dennis Rainey, and Michael Easley, and Al Mohler, and Russell Moore, and a whole bunch of other folks\u2014who offer practical, biblical counsel on marriage in this day-and-a-half video event that now 350,000 people have viewed over the last two-and-a-half years. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAgain, we\u2019re aiming for Valentine\u2019s Day, in 2014, as a strategic date when you could host an <em>Art of Marriage<\/em> event.
