For our listeners\u2014who are listening\u2014this was actually recorded back several months ago, when we were together with a bunch of friends, who are with us here today. Welcome to all of you. [Applause]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Bob, this actually brings new definition to the concept of \u201cDon\u2019t rock the boat<em>,\u201d because<\/em> this boat is rocking right now.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 It is kind of swaying. I said I think there must be something wrong, and it has nothing to do with the boat rocking. It has to do with the fact that it\u2019s been about an hour-and-a-half, and I\u2019ve had nothing to eat! [Laughter] I\u2019m just going, \u201cSomething is wrong.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 It is the \u201cEat Like You Mean It\u201d cruise\u2014there\u2019s no doubt about it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes it is \u201cEat Like You Mean It\u201d.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, we have a pair of guests that we just met, here on the cruise, Henry and Christin Borger. Welcome to our broadcast.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Thank you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Thank you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Glad you\u2019re here. Now, this is interesting because you\u2019re both prosecutors by profession. Not really, you\u2019re attorneys by profession.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 We\u2019re attorneys.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Attorneys.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 We\u2019re both attorneys.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 But you can prosecute and persecute daily, not only at work, but at home.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Very true.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 I have been told, at times\u2014not in the past several years, but <em>before<\/em>\u2014\u201cTake me off the witness stand, and stop cross-examining me.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I told an attorney, just a few minutes ago, here, on the cruise, \u201cYou can win the argument and lose the case.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Mm hmm.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Absolutely.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I have to tell you guys because I\u2019m just sitting here, looking at my wife who\u2019s looking up at me, because there was a time, early in our marriage, where she excused herself from the stand, and went back to the back bedroom, and locked the back door. I thought, \u201cHow immature of her to run away when all I was trying to do was have a discussion.\u201d Later, she pointed out that I was not particularly interested in a discussion. I was trying to get to a verdict. So, I\u2019ve been right where you are. I understand.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, no doubt. Well, you guys have quite a love story; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 How did you meet?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 We knew each other from high school. Christin was three years younger than I was. It\u2019s a small high school\u2014so you know everybody. We went different directions. We both had been married before. Actually, I have a son from a previous marriage. We went into the practice of law together in our home town. That\u2019s when things took off from there.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, you became law partners before you had any romantic interest in one another.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 When was the first time, around the office, Christin, that you started to go, \u201cHe\u2019s really kind of cute,\u201d or, \u201c\u2026nice,\u201d or whatever it was that you thought?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well I think I fell in love, first, with Henry\u2019s intellect. I love his voice. We would sit there and debate\u2014which later, when you\u2019re married, together, and having a disagreement\u2014that can kind of be difficult. But we <em>love to talk<\/em>. We <em>love <\/em>to discussthings. <em>We love<\/em> to debate. So, that grew naturally from there.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And for you, when did you first start to entertain romantic thoughts toward Christin?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, it really was just a function of spending so much time with her and just starting to see her heart. She was and is the most giving person that I think I\u2019ve ever, ever met. She\u2019s always looking out for everybody else, and I just became attracted to that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Anything going on, spiritually, in either of your lives, at this point?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Spiritually, there was <em>nothing<\/em> going on in my life. My background is\u2014I am the child of a parent, who each left their marriage\u2014had an affair. My father had six children. My mother had three children. They each left their marriages\u2014came together. I am one of one or one of ten, depending at how you look at it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Wow. How did your first marriage end?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 With an affair.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You or her?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Me.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Lost hope?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Umm--\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s how our relationship began; so\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Got it. Okay; alright.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 So that\u2019s part of\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 He didn\u2019t want to say it, out of respect for me.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s part of our story that we have a very difficult time with\u2014is that our marriage started with an affair. We struggled with that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 But we\u2019re family law attorneys. We see people every single week, seeking a divorce. We have to go deep with those people and tell them: \u201cListen! Don\u2019t do what we did.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Wow.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Our story has progressed from there\u2014where Henry and I struggled, and struggled, and struggled. We\u2019re two attorneys, we were a blended family, regular marital issues\u2014there were a number of different things. About three-and-a-half years ago, we separated for about five months. I guess your question was, \u201cWhere were we, spiritually, back then?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Henry was not anywhere. I had been raised in the Methodist church\u2014singing in the choir, going to youth group\u2014but it was all about good works. There was no relationship at all. Gradually, through our marriage, it was easier not to go to church\u2014not to pursue that. It was easier, within the context of our marriage. So, I really fell away from church altogether.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut when we started having<em> significant<\/em> problems and really talking about separation, I had said: \u201cI\u2019m going to church. I\u2019m going to take the kids.\u201d Henry said, \u201cCan I come, too?\u201d So, we started\u2014that was in January of 2010\u2014we started going to church. Our pastor is somebody we knew from high school\u2014somebody I graduated from high school with.\u00a0 We started going to church every Sunday together, no matter what. Even when we separated for five months, we went to church every single Sunday together.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 When did things progress from \u201cWe\u2019re going to church,\u201d to \u201cThere\u2019s something here that I have to deal with\u2014the reality of who God is, my own sin, my need for a Savior\u201d?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, during that time period, I <em>knew<\/em> I had a huge hole in my heart. I didn\u2019t know why. I knew I was unhappy. I was trying to fill that hole with kids, community activities, all sorts of things. I could not fill it! We had just built our dream home. I walked in; and I remember thinking, \u201cWhat have we done?!\u201d I was still unhappy! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe ended up separating during that time period, quite frankly, because of me. My heart was just hard. I couldn\u2019t see my way through anything different. So, we separated. I ended up going on a mission trip through a group called <em>Meeting God in Missions<\/em>. I was in the Dominican Republic. For the first time, I truly accepted Jesus Christ.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You understood the Gospel.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes. When we were down there in the Dominican, I had people coming to me saying, \u201cI feel I\u2019m supposed to talk to you about your marriage.\u201d \u201cWhat?! I just want to deepen my relationship with Jesus Christ.\u201d I came home\u2014surrounded myself with mature believers\u2014knew I needed to do that. Somehow, through this women\u2019s Bible study, we always talked about my marriage. But then, Henry had already accepted Christ, at that point\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right. Well, my\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, tell us how that happened.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Sure. For me, I never dealt with the failure of my first marriage. When it came to me\u2014that I was going to lose another marriage\u2014and, now, I was going to have a child from my first wife, and we have a child together\u2014as an attorney, I saw, every day, people that were living this and what it was doing to their children, and their families, and their next generations.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI, literally, was broken to the point of saying, \u201cI just can\u2019t accept that!\u201d So, I went to church and I saw this woman\u2014I couldn\u2019t even tell you who she is\u2014but I saw her just fall on her knees, up at the altar. I just wanted it. All of a sudden, something inside of me came over me, and I just wanted that faith. I wanted that belief. I wanted that power. So, I just gave my life to God, at that point.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI know it totally shocked her, at times, to hear some of the things that would come out of my mouth or see some of the things that I was doing because I had railed against organized religion for 40 years of my life.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Like what would come out of your mouth?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Before or after?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 After. [Laughter] I\u2019m not interested in before. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 This is Christian radio. We don\u2019t want to hear the before, bro.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, when I would say to her, \u201cLet\u2019s pray about it.\u201d She looked at me like\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, remember when Erin was involved in a skiing accident? Henry went down on one knee and started to pray. I said, \u201cWhat are you doing?\u201d This just was not my husband! He had never done this before. Where was this before?! My heart was hard, right then; and I didn\u2019t understand. So, it took awhile for God to work on my heart. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut we both watched the movie <em>Fireproof<\/em>, independently, of each other. He didn\u2019t know I was watching it. I didn\u2019t know he was watching it. We watched it at the same time. It convicted me. I fell to my knees, crying, and crying, and crying, and crying. We just knew\u2014we knew, \u201cGod hates divorce, and we don\u2019t want to leave this legacy for our kids.\u201d That\u2019s what we knew. We didn\u2019t know how to put it together. We didn\u2019t know anything else. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe had been meeting, during that time period, once a week. We were running a business, had two children, very involved in the community. So, we had been meeting, once a week, over food in a local restaurant: \u201cBring your agenda. I\u2019ll bring my agenda. We\u2019ll talk to try and get through things.\u201d Through those meetings, Henry said, \u201cI would like to go to a marriage retreat.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 I said: \u201cI\u2019d like to find some help. Would you go with me?\u201d She said, \u201cWell, if you do the research, we can look at it.\u201d So, of course, the first thing I did was I texted our pastor. I said, \u201cI\u2019m looking for a Christian marriage retreat, seminar\u2014something.\u201d \u201cI\u2019ll get back to you.\u201d We love our pastor, but I knew that meant, \u201cI\u2019m not getting a text back.\u201d [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, there just wasn\u2019t \u2014. There was no ministry\u2014there was <em>nothing<\/em>, in our community, for marriages\u2014<em>nothing<\/em>!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 There was nothing\u2014where we\u2019re from. So, I, literally, got on the internet and started looking. I found\u2014I don\u2019t remember the names of the other ones\u2014but I found\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 There were three.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, there were three total. I found the <em>Weekend to Remember<\/em><em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup><\/em>as one of the three. I printed off all the information. The next time we met, I showed up with the information. I said: \u201cHere are three of them. Take a look at them. Tell me what you think.\u201d I think we both realized that that was the one we wanted to try. So, we headed off to Pittsburgh; but that was the start of it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 We had reconciled, at that point. We were living back at home. We had reconciled the month before. Like Henry said, we had no idea\u2014no idea how to put it together.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 We were living in the same household again, but there was not\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 There was still isolation.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 There was no intimacy. There was no passion. There was no looking at each other like, \u201cThis is God\u2019s perfect gift!\u201d [Laughter] There wasn\u2019t.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, no doubt. So, what happened at the <em>Weekend to Remember<\/em>?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 At the <em>Weekend to Remember\u2014<\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 It was amazing.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 I remember, after about halfway through on Saturday, I just looked at Christin and I said: \u201cI have never been so intellectually stimulated in all my life.\u201d I\u2019ve been to college; I\u2019ve been to law school. I just had never been so challenged and so reached, intellectually. I said: \u201cI never knew any of this. I didn\u2019t know that there was a plan that God had designed for marriage.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 We really felt so stupid!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 We did. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Really, because we used to like to think of ourselves as intelligent people\u2014we walked out of there, saying: \u201cWe know nothing\u2014nothing! How did we even function before?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 And we told them, there, at that conference, \u201cThe world needs to know this about marriage!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 We did. That\u2019s exactly what we said.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u201cWe need to get this out!\u201d They said, \u201cWell, funny you would say that. We just developed <em>The Art of Marriage\u2122.<\/em>\u201d We said, \u201cWell, we\u2019re going to buy it!\u201d We brought it back to Warren, Pennsylvania. We\u2019ve\u2014the first time we showed it at our church\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well now, wait a second. You were separated\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014hardened\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014crusty\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014you know\u2014no hope.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You come to faith in Christ.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Now, you\u2019re on a jet sled. You\u2019re talking about reaching your community.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 What happened?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, when God gets a hold of you, He gets a hold of you. I\u2019ll tell you what! God gets a hold of you, and I\u2019m a type A-plus personality. So, the combination together\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I had no idea. [Laughter and applause]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh-h-h-h.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, you buy the <em>Art of Marriage<\/em>, and go home, and say, \u201cWe\u2019re doing this at the church.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, not immediately. We were still working through some of our\u2014and <em>The Art of Marriage<\/em> really wasn\u2019t even out, at that point.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Had you moved back in together?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 We moved back in the month before we went\u2014we moved back in\u2014in September. We went to <em>Art of Marriage<\/em> in October of 2010.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Went to the <em>Weekend to Remember.<\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 What did I say? Oh, <em>Weekend to Remember<\/em>, I\u2019m sorry, yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes\u2014<em>Weekend to Remember<\/em>\u2014right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, our first showing of <em>Art of Marriage<\/em> was your kickoff.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 2-11-11; February\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 There were 700 events that weekend.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, we had over a hundred people there. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 On the evaluations, person, after person, after person said, \u201cI think that just saved my marriage.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Wow. [Applause]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You\u2019ve done it a couple times since then; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Three total, and we\u2019re scheduled again to do it this fall.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Three total. Then, we said: \u201cAlright, that\u2019s a great event. It gets people stirred up; but what\u2019s the follow up? What\u2019s the in between? What comes after that?\u201d So, what we started doing at home\u2014we were making our own plan. We did not know how to do this, at all. I love the sound of Henry\u2019s voice\u2014love the sound of Henry\u2019s voice\u2014so we decided that we would read together. He would read out loud to me. The very first book we chose was Gary Chapman\u2019s <em>Five Love Languages<\/em>. We did Kevin Leman\u2019s <em>Sheet Music<\/em>. Now, we\u2019re reading <em>Sacred Marriage.<\/em> Good stuff.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Good stuff. Tell us how your practice has changed.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, it\u2019s interesting because this is probably not the best business model, if you want to be a divorce attorney or family law attorney; [Laughter] but people come in the door to talk to us about divorce. We tell them: \u201cWell, we\u2019re not going to do that. We\u2019re going to talk about reconciliation.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, that\u2019s a great story; but you have to understand that the people that are coming to us are broken people. You\u2019re seeing every variety of brokenness, you know. You\u2019re seeing spouses who are in situations where they\u2019re married to a drug addict, who is spending all the family\u2019s money on drugs\u2014on bath salts, or crystal meth, or that kind of thing. You\u2019re seeing where you have the spouse in jail. You\u2019re seeing, certainly, where people are finding out their spouse is having an affair. They\u2019re getting hit by the two-by-four that, all of a sudden, the spouse wants a divorce. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI wish I could sit here and say to you every one of these stories is a success story, but they\u2019re not. But are we giving all of these people hope? Are we giving them resources? Are we trying to show them that there\u2019s another way; and are we trying to say to them: \u201cLook at us. We\u2019ve made a mess\u2014in a couple different ways, in a couple different marriages, in a couple different times. Is there hope for you? Absolutely, there is.\u201d We have, hopefully, helped a fair number of people put their marriages back together.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 And that\u2019s what a lot of people really want to hear\u2014is just that there\u2019s hope\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014and to be encouraged, and to know: \u201cWe\u2019ve been through a lot of fires, and we\u2019re there, and we\u2019re in it; and there\u2019s a God that wants to help them.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, there sure is; and He\u2019s using you. I was thinking, as you were talking\u2014it\u2019s talking about being a new creation\u2014if anyone is in Christ. It says, \u201cAll of this is from God, who through Christ, reconciled us to Himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, that is that Christ [God] was reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s good.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You were reconciled to God; then, to each other\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 --and, now, you\u2019re attorneys who are helping people experience reconciliation\u2014vertically, with God; and horizontally, with others.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s pretty cool.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 It is cool. Thanks for joining us. I think there must be something wrong. We are onboard the <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em><em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup><\/em> marriage cruise. For our listeners\u2014who are listening\u2014this was actually recorded back several months ago, when we were together with a bunch of friends, who are with us here today. Welcome to all of you. [Applause]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Bob, this actually brings new definition to the concept of \u201cDon\u2019t rock the boat<em>,\u201d because<\/em> this boat is rocking right now.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 It is kind of swaying. I said I think there must be something wrong, and it has nothing to do with the boat rocking. It has to do with the fact that it\u2019s been about an hour-and-a-half, and I\u2019ve had nothing to eat! [Laughter] I\u2019m just going, \u201cSomething is wrong.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 It is the \u201cEat Like You Mean It\u201d cruise\u2014there\u2019s no doubt about it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes it is \u201cEat Like You Mean It\u201d.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, we have a pair of guests that we just met, here on the cruise, Henry and Christin Borger. Welcome to our broadcast.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Thank you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Thank you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Glad you\u2019re here. Now, this is interesting because you\u2019re both prosecutors by profession. Not really, you\u2019re attorneys by profession.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 We\u2019re attorneys.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Attorneys.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 We\u2019re both attorneys.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 But you can prosecute and persecute daily, not only at work, but at home.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Very true.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 I have been told, at times\u2014not in the past several years, but <em>before<\/em>\u2014\u201cTake me off the witness stand, and stop cross-examining me.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I told an attorney, just a few minutes ago, here, on the cruise, \u201cYou can win the argument and lose the case.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Mm hmm.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Absolutely.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I have to tell you guys because I\u2019m just sitting here, looking at my wife who\u2019s looking up at me, because there was a time, early in our marriage, where she excused herself from the stand, and went back to the back bedroom, and locked the back door. I thought, \u201cHow immature of her to run away when all I was trying to do was have a discussion.\u201d Later, she pointed out that I was not particularly interested in a discussion. I was trying to get to a verdict. So, I\u2019ve been right where you are. I understand.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, no doubt. Well, you guys have quite a love story; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 How did you meet?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 We knew each other from high school. Christin was three years younger than I was. It\u2019s a small high school\u2014so you know everybody. We went different directions. We both had been married before. Actually, I have a son from a previous marriage. We went into the practice of law together in our home town. That\u2019s when things took off from there.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, you became law partners before you had any romantic interest in one another.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 When was the first time, around the office, Christin, that you started to go, \u201cHe\u2019s really kind of cute,\u201d or, \u201c\u2026nice,\u201d or whatever it was that you thought?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well I think I fell in love, first, with Henry\u2019s intellect. I love his voice. We would sit there and debate\u2014which later, when you\u2019re married, together, and having a disagreement\u2014that can kind of be difficult. But we <em>love to talk<\/em>. We <em>love <\/em>to discussthings. <em>We love<\/em> to debate. So, that grew naturally from there.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And for you, when did you first start to entertain romantic thoughts toward Christin?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, it really was just a function of spending so much time with her and just starting to see her heart. She was and is the most giving person that I think I\u2019ve ever, ever met. She\u2019s always looking out for everybody else, and I just became attracted to that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Anything going on, spiritually, in either of your lives, at this point?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Spiritually, there was <em>nothing<\/em> going on in my life. My background is\u2014I am the child of a parent, who each left their marriage\u2014had an affair. My father had six children. My mother had three children. They each left their marriages\u2014came together. I am one of one or one of ten, depending at how you look at it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Wow. How did your first marriage end?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 With an affair.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You or her?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Me.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Lost hope?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Umm--\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s how our relationship began; so\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Got it. Okay; alright.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 So that\u2019s part of\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 He didn\u2019t want to say it, out of respect for me.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s part of our story that we have a very difficult time with\u2014is that our marriage started with an affair. We struggled with that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 But we\u2019re family law attorneys. We see people every single week, seeking a divorce. We have to go deep with those people and tell them: \u201cListen! Don\u2019t do what we did.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Wow.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Our story has progressed from there\u2014where Henry and I struggled, and struggled, and struggled. We\u2019re two attorneys, we were a blended family, regular marital issues\u2014there were a number of different things. About three-and-a-half years ago, we separated for about five months. I guess your question was, \u201cWhere were we, spiritually, back then?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Henry was not anywhere. I had been raised in the Methodist church\u2014singing in the choir, going to youth group\u2014but it was all about good works. There was no relationship at all. Gradually, through our marriage, it was easier not to go to church\u2014not to pursue that. It was easier, within the context of our marriage. So, I really fell away from church altogether.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut when we started having<em> significant<\/em> problems and really talking about separation, I had said: \u201cI\u2019m going to church. I\u2019m going to take the kids.\u201d Henry said, \u201cCan I come, too?\u201d So, we started\u2014that was in January of 2010\u2014we started going to church. Our pastor is somebody we knew from high school\u2014somebody I graduated from high school with.\u00a0 We started going to church every Sunday together, no matter what. Even when we separated for five months, we went to church every single Sunday together.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 When did things progress from \u201cWe\u2019re going to church,\u201d to \u201cThere\u2019s something here that I have to deal with\u2014the reality of who God is, my own sin, my need for a Savior\u201d?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, during that time period, I <em>knew<\/em> I had a huge hole in my heart. I didn\u2019t know why. I knew I was unhappy. I was trying to fill that hole with kids, community activities, all sorts of things. I could not fill it! We had just built our dream home. I walked in; and I remember thinking, \u201cWhat have we done?!\u201d I was still unhappy! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe ended up separating during that time period, quite frankly, because of me. My heart was just hard. I couldn\u2019t see my way through anything different. So, we separated. I ended up going on a mission trip through a group called <em>Meeting God in Missions<\/em>. I was in the Dominican Republic. For the first time, I truly accepted Jesus Christ.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You understood the Gospel.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes. When we were down there in the Dominican, I had people coming to me saying, \u201cI feel I\u2019m supposed to talk to you about your marriage.\u201d \u201cWhat?! I just want to deepen my relationship with Jesus Christ.\u201d I came home\u2014surrounded myself with mature believers\u2014knew I needed to do that. Somehow, through this women\u2019s Bible study, we always talked about my marriage. But then, Henry had already accepted Christ, at that point\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right. Well, my\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, tell us how that happened.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Sure. For me, I never dealt with the failure of my first marriage. When it came to me\u2014that I was going to lose another marriage\u2014and, now, I was going to have a child from my first wife, and we have a child together\u2014as an attorney, I saw, every day, people that were living this and what it was doing to their children, and their families, and their next generations.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI, literally, was broken to the point of saying, \u201cI just can\u2019t accept that!\u201d So, I went to church and I saw this woman\u2014I couldn\u2019t even tell you who she is\u2014but I saw her just fall on her knees, up at the altar. I just wanted it. All of a sudden, something inside of me came over me, and I just wanted that faith. I wanted that belief. I wanted that power. So, I just gave my life to God, at that point.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI know it totally shocked her, at times, to hear some of the things that would come out of my mouth or see some of the things that I was doing because I had railed against organized religion for 40 years of my life.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Like what would come out of your mouth?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Before or after?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 After. [Laughter] I\u2019m not interested in before. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 This is Christian radio. We don\u2019t want to hear the before, bro.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, when I would say to her, \u201cLet\u2019s pray about it.\u201d She looked at me like\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, remember when Erin was involved in a skiing accident? Henry went down on one knee and started to pray. I said, \u201cWhat are you doing?\u201d This just was not my husband! He had never done this before. Where was this before?! My heart was hard, right then; and I didn\u2019t understand. So, it took awhile for God to work on my heart. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut we both watched the movie <em>Fireproof<\/em>, independently, of each other. He didn\u2019t know I was watching it. I didn\u2019t know he was watching it. We watched it at the same time. It convicted me. I fell to my knees, crying, and crying, and crying, and crying. We just knew\u2014we knew, \u201cGod hates divorce, and we don\u2019t want to leave this legacy for our kids.\u201d That\u2019s what we knew. We didn\u2019t know how to put it together. We didn\u2019t know anything else. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe had been meeting, during that time period, once a week. We were running a business, had two children, very involved in the community. So, we had been meeting, once a week, over food in a local restaurant: \u201cBring your agenda. I\u2019ll bring my agenda. We\u2019ll talk to try and get through things.\u201d Through those meetings, Henry said, \u201cI would like to go to a marriage retreat.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 I said: \u201cI\u2019d like to find some help. Would you go with me?\u201d She said, \u201cWell, if you do the research, we can look at it.\u201d So, of course, the first thing I did was I texted our pastor. I said, \u201cI\u2019m looking for a Christian marriage retreat, seminar\u2014something.\u201d \u201cI\u2019ll get back to you.\u201d We love our pastor, but I knew that meant, \u201cI\u2019m not getting a text back.\u201d [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, there just wasn\u2019t \u2014. There was no ministry\u2014there was <em>nothing<\/em>, in our community, for marriages\u2014<em>nothing<\/em>!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 There was nothing\u2014where we\u2019re from. So, I, literally, got on the internet and started looking. I found\u2014I don\u2019t remember the names of the other ones\u2014but I found\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 There were three.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, there were three total. I found the <em>Weekend to Remember<\/em><em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup><\/em>as one of the three. I printed off all the information. The next time we met, I showed up with the information. I said: \u201cHere are three of them. Take a look at them. Tell me what you think.\u201d I think we both realized that that was the one we wanted to try. So, we headed off to Pittsburgh; but that was the start of it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 We had reconciled, at that point. We were living back at home. We had reconciled the month before. Like Henry said, we had no idea\u2014no idea how to put it together.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 We were living in the same household again, but there was not\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 There was still isolation.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 There was no intimacy. There was no passion. There was no looking at each other like, \u201cThis is God\u2019s perfect gift!\u201d [Laughter] There wasn\u2019t.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, no doubt. So, what happened at the <em>Weekend to Remember<\/em>?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 At the <em>Weekend to Remember\u2014<\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 It was amazing.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 I remember, after about halfway through on Saturday, I just looked at Christin and I said: \u201cI have never been so intellectually stimulated in all my life.\u201d I\u2019ve been to college; I\u2019ve been to law school. I just had never been so challenged and so reached, intellectually. I said: \u201cI never knew any of this. I didn\u2019t know that there was a plan that God had designed for marriage.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 We really felt so stupid!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 We did. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Really, because we used to like to think of ourselves as intelligent people\u2014we walked out of there, saying: \u201cWe know nothing\u2014nothing! How did we even function before?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 And we told them, there, at that conference, \u201cThe world needs to know this about marriage!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 We did. That\u2019s exactly what we said.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u201cWe need to get this out!\u201d They said, \u201cWell, funny you would say that. We just developed <em>The Art of Marriage\u2122.<\/em>\u201d We said, \u201cWell, we\u2019re going to buy it!\u201d We brought it back to Warren, Pennsylvania. We\u2019ve\u2014the first time we showed it at our church\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well now, wait a second. You were separated\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014hardened\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014crusty\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014you know\u2014no hope.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You come to faith in Christ.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Now, you\u2019re on a jet sled. You\u2019re talking about reaching your community.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 What happened?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, when God gets a hold of you, He gets a hold of you. I\u2019ll tell you what! God gets a hold of you, and I\u2019m a type A-plus personality. So, the combination together\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I had no idea. [Laughter and applause]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh-h-h-h.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, you buy the <em>Art of Marriage<\/em>, and go home, and say, \u201cWe\u2019re doing this at the church.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, not immediately. We were still working through some of our\u2014and <em>The Art of Marriage<\/em> really wasn\u2019t even out, at that point.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Had you moved back in together?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 We moved back in the month before we went\u2014we moved back in\u2014in September. We went to <em>Art of Marriage<\/em> in October of 2010.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Went to the <em>Weekend to Remember.<\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 What did I say? Oh, <em>Weekend to Remember<\/em>, I\u2019m sorry, yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes\u2014<em>Weekend to Remember<\/em>\u2014right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, our first showing of <em>Art of Marriage<\/em> was your kickoff.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 2-11-11; February\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 There were 700 events that weekend.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, we had over a hundred people there. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 On the evaluations, person, after person, after person said, \u201cI think that just saved my marriage.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Wow. [Applause]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You\u2019ve done it a couple times since then; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Three total, and we\u2019re scheduled again to do it this fall.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 Three total. Then, we said: \u201cAlright, that\u2019s a great event. It gets people stirred up; but what\u2019s the follow up? What\u2019s the in between? What comes after that?\u201d So, what we started doing at home\u2014we were making our own plan. We did not know how to do this, at all. I love the sound of Henry\u2019s voice\u2014love the sound of Henry\u2019s voice\u2014so we decided that we would read together. He would read out loud to me. The very first book we chose was Gary Chapman\u2019s <em>Five Love Languages<\/em>. We did Kevin Leman\u2019s <em>Sheet Music<\/em>. Now, we\u2019re reading <em>Sacred Marriage.<\/em> Good stuff.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Good stuff. Tell us how your practice has changed.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, it\u2019s interesting because this is probably not the best business model, if you want to be a divorce attorney or family law attorney; [Laughter] but people come in the door to talk to us about divorce. We tell them: \u201cWell, we\u2019re not going to do that. We\u2019re going to talk about reconciliation.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, that\u2019s a great story; but you have to understand that the people that are coming to us are broken people. You\u2019re seeing every variety of brokenness, you know. You\u2019re seeing spouses who are in situations where they\u2019re married to a drug addict, who is spending all the family\u2019s money on drugs\u2014on bath salts, or crystal meth, or that kind of thing. You\u2019re seeing where you have the spouse in jail. You\u2019re seeing, certainly, where people are finding out their spouse is having an affair. They\u2019re getting hit by the two-by-four that, all of a sudden, the spouse wants a divorce. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI wish I could sit here and say to you every one of these stories is a success story, but they\u2019re not. But are we giving all of these people hope? Are we giving them resources? Are we trying to show them that there\u2019s another way; and are we trying to say to them: \u201cLook at us. We\u2019ve made a mess\u2014in a couple different ways, in a couple different marriages, in a couple different times. Is there hope for you? Absolutely, there is.\u201d We have, hopefully, helped a fair number of people put their marriages back together.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 And that\u2019s what a lot of people really want to hear\u2014is just that there\u2019s hope\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Christin:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014and to be encouraged, and to know: \u201cWe\u2019ve been through a lot of fires, and we\u2019re there, and we\u2019re in it; and there\u2019s a God that wants to help them.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, there sure is; and He\u2019s using you. I was thinking, as you were talking\u2014it\u2019s talking about being a new creation\u2014if anyone is in Christ. It says, \u201cAll of this is from God, who through Christ, reconciled us to Himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, that is that Christ [God] was reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s good.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You were reconciled to God; then, to each other\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Henry:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 --and, now, you\u2019re attorneys who are helping people experience reconciliation\u2014vertically, with God; and horizontally, with others.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s pretty cool.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 It is cool.
