We\u2019ll hear today about how God took Robert and Bobbie Wolgemuth down a difficult path to show them His glory. We\u2019re going to get to spend some time today with some friends of ours who are going to give us a unique insight into what the Bible has to say about marriage, from a little different perspective\u2014looking at different couples who appear in the historical sections of Scripture\u2014but before we get to that, we\u2019re going to have a chance to hear a little bit about the journey that God has had them on over the past year. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And how God has shown up in their marriage and their life. Robert and Bobbie Wolgemuth join us on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>. Bobbie\u2014thrilled to have you here. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bobbie:<\/strong> Oh, thank you. I am\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robert:<\/strong> Yes. Amen. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And our listeners will understand why I\u2019m singling you out, in a moment. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bobbie:<\/strong> \u2014I am so grateful to be here. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> We are thrilled to have you here. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robert:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Robert is my agent, who is the founder and President of Wolgemuth &amp; Associates. He represents authors\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robert:<\/strong> I do. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014all across the Christian community. Some of the other authors\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robert:<\/strong> I won\u2019t go there. Don\u2019t\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Don\u2019t do that? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robert:<\/strong> Dennis Rainey. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> He\u2019s the only one. [Laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> That\u2019s the only one. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robert:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I knew you would answer it that way. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robert:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> But they are the proud\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robert:<\/strong> I\u2019m glad I didn\u2019t disappoint you. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014they are the proud parents of two children. They have five grandchildren. They have written a book called <em>Couples of the Bible<\/em>\u2014and that\u2019s what Bob was referring to. It\u2019s a one-year devotional study for couples who want to get in the Scriptures together. <br><br>About a year ago, though, you guys were thrown into a valley of your own that\u2014take us back to Valentine\u2019s Day of 2012. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bobbie:<\/strong> Well, who\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robert:<\/strong> Well, Bobbie was unconscious. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bobbie:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robert:<\/strong> So, we went for surgery at 11:30 on the 14<sup>th<\/sup> of February, 2012. We knew that there was something. Bobbie thought it was endometriosis; but we really\u2014and we\u2014an oncologist at MD Anderson, in Orlando, did the surgery. So, we were suspicious but not to the level that actually it turned out to be. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, that was 11:30. About 7 o\u2019clock that night\u2014it was supposed to be three hours. It was over seven hours. Our older daughter, Missy, and I sat down with Dr. Veronica Schimp. She said, \u201cBarbara has\u201d\u2014Bobbie\u2019s real name is Barbara\u2014\u201cBarbara has cancer. She has stage four ovarian cancer.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd those words\u2014it was so surreal to sit there and hear that about my wife! This is something that happens to your\u2014maybe, some of your friends and extended family, perhaps, or people that you know at church. Those words just aren\u2019t spoken to you about the woman whom you love. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> And for those who don\u2019t know, there are only four stages for cancer; right? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robert:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Stage four means the worst kind there is. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robert:<\/strong> Yes, that\u2019s right. That\u2019s right. There are only four stages. In fact, in recovery, as Bobbie was waking up, I was standing, there, right next to her. She said, \u201cDo I have cancer?\u201d I said, \u201cYes.\u201d She said, \u201cHow bad is it?\u201d I said, \u201cIt\u2019s stage four.\u201d And she said\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bobbie:<\/strong> And I said, \u201cHow many stages are there?\u201d [Laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robert:<\/strong> That\u2019s true. And in her drowsiness, as you know\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> In the fog of the anesthetic. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robert:<\/strong> In the fog. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robert:<\/strong> And I said, \u201cThere are only four.\u201d So, we knew, at that point, that this is a really serious moment. <br><br><strong>Bob:<\/strong> Bobbie, when you went into surgery, thinking, \u201cEndometriosis,\u201d you come out from under an anesthetic; and you say, \u201cIs it cancer?\u201d Where did that come from? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bobbie:<\/strong> It took a while to process what was really happening. The most interesting thing is\u2014I feel like, we had been prepared for this. I\u2019m sure God always is preparing us for what\u2019s next\u2014but having been part of a fabulous girls\u2019 Bible study, being best friends with Robert, having a church support group, and really spending two years working on this project\u2014<em>Couples of the Bible<\/em>\u2014we had been working and reading about couples. Every time a crisis happened to a couple in the Bible, we get to read what happened to them; but they didn\u2019t get that. So, I feel like I had been prepared and that\u2014it did feel like we were ready for this. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And I think that\u2019s really important because it\u2019s not an, \u201c<em>If<\/em> the storms are going to come\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robert:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014the storms will come; but in the preparation and the writing of the book, you had been thrown into analysis of how God shows up in the storm, how people respond in the storm, and how God uses the storm in their lives. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes. What He\u2019s up to, yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> So, here you are in the midst of it. How did you begin that journey, at that point? I mean, after you got out from under the anesthesia and you really\u2014it really did settle in\u2014what happened then? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bobbie:<\/strong> One of the things that I found out is that my theology is more important than my oncologist. I say that because your mind and what you believe is so critical for capturing every thought for saying: \u201cOkay, if this is what God has allowed in my life, then, how am I going to handle this?\u201d <em>and<\/em>, \u201cDo I believe God is good?\u201d and, \u201cYes, I do.\u201d \u201cDo I believe this was a surprise to Him?\u201d \u201cNo, it was not.\u201d \u201cSo, does that mean He will gift us to walk through this?\u201d and that, the answer is, \u201cYes.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Did you have fear\u2014any fear\u2014at that point? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bobbie:<\/strong> The biggest wall that hit is when you say, \u201cStage four.\u201d It\u2019s usually a death sentence. So, I think both of us, and our children, and grandchildren had to look right at death. That\u2019s why I\u2019m saying my theology is important. \u201cWhat do I really believe about death?\u201d Well, I\u2019ve been reading what God says about death. He is saying, like Paul, \u201cTo live or to die, does it matter?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf I could get to the point where I said: \u201cLord, I trust You enough that the day of my birth and the day of my death has already been settled in eternity. I\u2019m not going to change that. What do You have for me?\u201d <em>and<\/em>, \u201cCan I live each day that I do have to honor You and glorify You?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI would say, \u201cYes, I did fear.\u201d Fear is something that I\u2019ve always had to deal with. I kept thinking, \u201cThere\u2019s no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.\u201d Well, God is the perfect love. So, hymns helped me a lot. The singing\u2014we basically sang our way through all the treatments\u2014the months of treatments. So, yes, there\u2019s always the tension between the fear and what is. I think we did settle on, \u201cYes, it\u2019s scary; but God is there.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf I had a fear, it was, \u201cWhat is going to happen to my daughters?\u201d My granddaughter said to me, \u201cNanny, I want you here where I get married.\u201d You know, that kind of thing is like, \u201cWhoa! I want to be there when you get married.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut when\u2014I would sit a long time with my journal, with my Bible\u2014and my fears about my daughters was, \u201cHow are they are going to do?\u201d \u201cHow is Robert going to do?\u201d Then, I thought: \u201cWait! Do I think that I know more than God does? Do I think that He doesn\u2019t know how to take care of my daughters?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWell, as the months progressed, my daughters were the women of faith that rose up. They\u2019d call and say: \u201cHere\u2019s our hymn for the day. Here\u2019s a verse for the day,\u201d or they\u2019d text me. They are the ones\u2014that their faith just deepened, same with Robert\u2014and our love deepened for each other. I didn\u2019t think that was possible. Everybody talked about it as a battle. I really never thought of it as a battle. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> You say your theology was more important than your oncologist and what he or she was saying about your disease. You expressed that hymns\u2014and you didn\u2019t say this, but I know this to be true\u2014hymns became an expression of that theology because\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bobbie:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014they reminded you of the truth. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bobbie:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And I\u2019m going to ask you a real tough question. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bobbie:<\/strong> Okay. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> If you could only sing one song, from the past 13 months, what song would you and Robert sing together? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bobbie:<\/strong> Well, the one that I sang, in the middle of the night, the most\u2014when fears would try to take me down\u2014the hymn that I had memorized the year before\u2014and I memorize a hymn every year\u2014sort of an unusual one that I don\u2019t know if Robert knows all the words to this one is [singing]:\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<em>\u00a0<\/em><em>Sing praise to God who reigns above,<\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<em>\u00a0<\/em><em>the God of all creation,<\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<em>\u00a0<\/em><em>the God of power, the God of love, <\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<em>\u00a0<\/em><em>the God of our salvation. <\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<em>\u00a0<\/em><em>With healing balm, my soul He fills, <\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<em>\u00a0<\/em><em>and every faithless murmur stills. <\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<em>\u00a0<\/em><em>To God all praise and glory. <\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br>Every verse of that hymn I had memorized the year before\u2014speaking of preparation\u2014and the Holy Spirit would bring that to me. I would lie in bed; and when anything would come try to assail me\u2014I mean, those words were just like a blanket\u2014and in the car trips to MD Anderson\u2014every chemo treatment\u2014we picked a hymn, and we sang it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> The words of the hymns\u2014and these are the great hymns of the faith. These are words that contain the radiance of Christ, and who He is, and the reality about God. Speaking of great theology, these hymns remind us of the truth. Speak to that\u2014why the words of these hymns are so important to you. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bobbie:<\/strong> They were crafted by theologians who understood the character of God\u2014the eternal, the infinite, the unchangeable nature of His power, His perfection, His goodness, His glory. You can\u2019t be saturated with that and either be\u2014murmuring and complaining, or sad or not trusting. I felt like the future is totally in His hands. He doesn\u2019t do anything that\u2019s a mistake. If I believe that He\u2019s good and He\u2019s gracious, I believe He is working through me. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat the most amazing thing to me was\u2014and I told this to Robert\u2014I said, \u201cIf it hadn\u2019t been stage four, I wouldn\u2019t have had the opportunity to be asked by MD Anderson to go and visit other patients, that are stage two and three, that need a role model for what it means to have peace\u2014for what it means to not be hysterical.\u201d I was, literally, able to go visit women in the hospital that had just had surgery for ovarian cancer. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes, I want to ask you about this because you go to the hospital so they can fix you; but you were going to the hospital as much as a missionary\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robert:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014as you were a patient. In fact, the patient-side\u2014\u2014it seemed like that was almost secondary to the mission that God had you on in that hospital. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bobbie:<\/strong> I didn\u2019t know that, at the time; but I did ask my doctor, and the other doctors\u2019 assistants, that were in there\u2014I would\u2014every time, I\u2019d go\u2014I\u2019d say, \u201cHow can I pray for <em>you<\/em>?\u201d After a while\u2014at first, they said, \u201cOh, anyway you want.\u201dThen, I said, \u201cNo, I need you to tell me what concerns you.\u201d Usually, it was: \u201cWe need more help at the hospital. We need peace. We definitely need peace because we\u2019re dealing with life and death matters every day.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI said, \u201cWell, that\u2019s something I know about.\u201d I said, \u201cThe Lord\u201d\u2014when I\u2019d leave, I would usually say: \u201cThe Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face to shine upon you and give you His peace.\u201d I would just go like this\u2014like over them, with my hands\u2014like peace in the air. I think that made a difference because they were counting on the peace of God, sort of coming in the door, with Robert and me. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robert:<\/strong> They actually sent a patient to Bobbie, while she was getting a chemo treatment. So, there\u2019s this poison going into her system; and she\u2019s praying with a woman\u2014standing there, next to her\u2014encouraging her, who had just gotten the news that she had cancer. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bobbie:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robert:<\/strong> So, MD Anderson has been an amazing friend to us. There are some believers there, and there are some folks who are seeking; but they know that there is something in Bobbie\u2019s spirit that they want, and they want their patients to have the same. So, they\u2019ve just opened their doors to us\u2014done videos of Bobbie\u2014and given her a chance to talk about her faith. It\u2019s been pretty remarkable. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bobbie:<\/strong> Well, you know, if we had asked the Lord to give us a platform to talk about Jesus and salvation to others, this cancer has been definitely a platform. I have been in Wal-Mart, when my head was naked, and it was too hot in the summer to wear a wig or even a scarf. I\u2019ve had people come up to me. I had one lady come up to me; and she said, \u201cCan I hug you?\u201d I said, \u201cYes!\u201d She said, \u201cI\u2019m a survivor!\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt is an <em>amazing<\/em> community of people\u2014of women\u2014that have been through ovarian or breast cancer\u2014that have gone through losing their hair. That was just one symbol\u2014that the hair loss was sort of a big deal because women and our hair\u2014it\u2019s really a big deal\u2014but that has given me an opportunity to be fearless about sharing what Jesus has done for me. That\u2019s really all we are. We\u2019re just all sharing what God has done in our lives, and that\u2019s the best testimony you can give.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis<\/strong>: There has to be a listener, who is hearing you\u2014you two, talk right now. They are going, \u201cI feel like I don\u2019t have any faith, at all, compared to you, Bobbie, or Robert.\u201d You\u2014I want you to talk with them about, \u201cHow can they grow their faith?\u201d and frankly, I think that\u2019s what your devotional about the Bible is all about. It\u2019s about couples growing their faith in Christ together, not separately\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robert:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014but growing it together. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bobbie:<\/strong> I\u2019m aching for that person. I just want to go and put my arms around them and say, \u201cIf you can just ask God to protect your joy,\u201d because, really, what problems\u2014what fear takes from us\u2014it tries to rob us of the joy that we have and of the peace that we have. So, if the attack is on our joy and our peace, \u201cWhat will bring joy and peace to me?\u201d It\u2019s being so positive that this is in the hands\u2014the very capable, very loving hands\u2014of God. \u201cWhat do I believe about God? Do I believe He is loving? Do I believe He allows me to go through very difficult situations, but that He will be with me? If I know He\u2019s with me, then, I\u2019m okay.\u201d <br><br>I got a strong word from Scripture, and I sang it. In my case with hymns, I sang it. And then, I really enjoyed the prayers of other people. I had 31 precious, young moms that I teach in a Bible study. They signed up to pray for me\u2014an hour on the hour. The whole day I had prayer going around me. That is something you can either give to someone else or ask God to give someone a thought about you to pray for you. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br>The other thing, someone sent me, every three days, a card with a handwritten Bible verse on it. By the time I finished several months, I had Scripture cards all over the house. The joy was on trial, but we didn\u2019t let the devil take our joy. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robert:<\/strong> And there were things that we did every single day. The wonderful thing the Lord has done is given us night and then a new day\u2014new every morning. Every morning, I make oatmeal for Bobbie. Then, we sit down, eat the oatmeal together; and then, we read through the Bible. Bobbie has read through the Bible 26 times. In the last 26 years, she has read through the Bible every year. So, what you are hearing now is just a continuum of what\u2019s already been there. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe sent this manuscript in for <em>Couples of the Bible<\/em>, actually, from the hospital. The writing of the book preceded this crisis, if you will\u2014so, prayer every morning together, Bible reading every morning together\u2014just the basics. The Lord speaks to you while you\u2019re soaking in His Word. God is so present. He\u2019s so faithful, day after day. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tEvery day, sunrise comes up\u2014you do that again, and you do it again, and you do it again. God changes your heart and allows you to see this experience, really, not as a trial\u2014that sounds really crazy\u2014but it really isn\u2019t a trial. It\u2019s just one more opportunity for Him to get the glory through your life. We\u2019re not making that up. That\u2019s real. That\u2019s our experience. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong> Bobbie, when somebody is diagnosed with stage four ovarian cancer, what do doctors say is typical in that situation? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bobbie:<\/strong> I don\u2019t think there is a typical case. They talk about the possibilities of treatment, but they really\u2014at least\u2014I\u2019m sure a doctor needs to be very careful not to take away a person\u2019s hope. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I never googled or went on the internet to find out what my chances are. I don\u2019t think I was being Pollyanna and sticking my head in the sand. I think I really wanted to handle this without being a statistic. I said, again: \u201cThe day of my birth and the day of my death has been settled in eternity. I\u2019m not going to change that.\u201d So, I didn\u2019t want to have things in my head that would rob my joy, rob my peace, or rob my hope. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> So, do you know what the doctors are saying today about\u2014after six treatments? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bobbie:<\/strong> Yes, I\u2019m in remission. The doctor was very careful with her words. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong> Okay. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bobbie:<\/strong> She said, \u201cYou are in remission.\u201d I go in for tests\u2014for blood tests\u2014and for scans. So far, my CT scans have been NED, no evidence of disease; but again, every time you go in, you get your blood work and you say: \u201cHmm? I wonder what today is going to bring.\u201d So, again, it\u2019s that kind of, \u201cYou wait and see.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I\u2019ll tell you what there is evidence of\u2014there is evidence of a very simple, yet profound faith in Almighty God\u2014that He knows what He\u2019s doing. It\u2019s not just a faith of a woman or of a man but of a couple. I think what you are modeling, here, for\u2014whether a couple is just starting out their journey together in the first months of their marriage or whether they\u2019ve been married 30, 40, 50 years\u2014the spiritual disciplines that we employ as husband and wife will be the same spiritual disciplines that carry us through the valleys and the storms when they come in life. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m grateful that you\u2019re in remission, but that you also are in spiritual growth, and you\u2019re in a dynamic relationship with Christ, and you\u2019re leading other couples in the direction they ought to go. I think the <em>Couples of the Bible<\/em> one-year devotional guide needs to be used by couples to get them in the Book. And that was my\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robert:<\/strong> That\u2019s it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014prayer for this broadcast. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> To get them ready for what is ahead because the point is we don\u2019t know what\u2019s ahead. The time to get ready is not when something hits, but it\u2019s before the storms come. [Laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> That\u2019s the only one. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robert:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I knew you would answer it that way. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robert:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> But they are the proud\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robert:<\/strong> I\u2019m glad I didn\u2019t disappoint you. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014they are the proud parents of two children. They have five grandchildren. They have written a book called <em>Couples of the Bible<\/em>\u2014and that\u2019s what Bob was referring to. It\u2019s a one-year devotional study for couples who want to get in the Scriptures together. <br><br>About a year ago, though, you guys were thrown into a valley of your own that\u2014take us back to Valentine\u2019s Day of 2012. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bobbie:<\/strong> Well, who\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robert:<\/strong> Well, Bobbie was unconscious. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bobbie:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robert:<\/strong> So, we went for surgery at 11:30 on the 14<sup>th<\/sup> of February, 2012. We knew that there was something. Bobbie thought it was endometriosis; but we really\u2014and we\u2014an oncologist at MD Anderson, in Orlando, did the surgery. So, we were suspicious but not to the level that actually it turned out to be. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, that was 11:30. About 7 o\u2019clock that night\u2014it was supposed to be three hours. It was over seven hours. Our older daughter, Missy, and I sat down with Dr. Veronica Schimp. She said, \u201cBarbara has\u201d\u2014Bobbie\u2019s real name is Barbara\u2014\u201cBarbara has cancer. She has stage four ovarian cancer.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd those words\u2014it was so surreal to sit there and hear that about my wife! This is something that happens to your\u2014maybe, some of your friends and extended family, perhaps, or people that you know at church. Those words just aren\u2019t spoken to you about the woman whom you love. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> And for those who don\u2019t know, there are only four stages for cancer; right? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robert:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Stage four means the worst kind there is. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robert:<\/strong> Yes, that\u2019s right. That\u2019s right. There are only four stages. In fact, in recovery, as Bobbie was waking up, I was standing, there, right next to her. She said, \u201cDo I have cancer?\u201d I said, \u201cYes.\u201d She said, \u201cHow bad is it?\u201d I said, \u201cIt\u2019s stage four.\u201d And she said\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bobbie:<\/strong> And I said, \u201cHow many stages are there?\u201d [Laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robert:<\/strong> That\u2019s true. And in her drowsiness, as you know\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> In the fog of the anesthetic. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robert:<\/strong> In the fog. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robert:<\/strong> And I said, \u201cThere are only four.\u201d So, we knew, at that point, that this is a really serious moment. <br><br><strong>Bob:<\/strong> Bobbie, when you went into surgery, thinking, \u201cEndometriosis,\u201d you come out from under an anesthetic; and you say, \u201cIs it cancer?\u201d Where did that come from? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bobbie:<\/strong> It took a while to process what was really happening. The most interesting thing is\u2014I feel like, we had been prepared for this. I\u2019m sure God always is preparing us for what\u2019s next\u2014but having been part of a fabulous girls\u2019 Bible study, being best friends with Robert, having a church support group, and really spending two years working on this project\u2014<em>Couples of the Bible<\/em>\u2014we had been working and reading about couples. Every time a crisis happened to a couple in the Bible, we get to read what happened to them; but they didn\u2019t get that. So, I feel like I had been prepared and that\u2014it did feel like we were ready for this. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And I think that\u2019s really important because it\u2019s not an, \u201c<em>If<\/em> the storms are going to come\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robert:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014the storms will come; but in the preparation and the writing of the book, you had been thrown into analysis of how God shows up in the storm, how people respond in the storm, and how God uses the storm in their lives. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes. What He\u2019s up to, yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> So, here you are in the midst of it. How did you begin that journey, at that point? I mean, after you got out from under the anesthesia and you really\u2014it really did settle in\u2014what happened then? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bobbie:<\/strong> One of the things that I found out is that my theology is more important than my oncologist. I say that because your mind and what you believe is so critical for capturing every thought for saying: \u201cOkay, if this is what God has allowed in my life, then, how am I going to handle this?\u201d <em>and<\/em>, \u201cDo I believe God is good?\u201d and, \u201cYes, I do.\u201d \u201cDo I believe this was a surprise to Him?\u201d \u201cNo, it was not.\u201d \u201cSo, does that mean He will gift us to walk through this?\u201d and that, the answer is, \u201cYes.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Did you have fear\u2014any fear\u2014at that point? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bobbie:<\/strong> The biggest wall that hit is when you say, \u201cStage four.\u201d It\u2019s usually a death sentence. So, I think both of us, and our children, and grandchildren had to look right at death. That\u2019s why I\u2019m saying my theology is important. \u201cWhat do I really believe about death?\u201d Well, I\u2019ve been reading what God says about death. He is saying, like Paul, \u201cTo live or to die, does it matter?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf I could get to the point where I said: \u201cLord, I trust You enough that the day of my birth and the day of my death has already been settled in eternity. I\u2019m not going to change that. What do You have for me?\u201d <em>and<\/em>, \u201cCan I live each day that I do have to honor You and glorify You?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI would say, \u201cYes, I did fear.\u201d Fear is something that I\u2019ve always had to deal with. I kept thinking, \u201cThere\u2019s no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.\u201d Well, God is the perfect love. So, hymns helped me a lot. The singing\u2014we basically sang our way through all the treatments\u2014the months of treatments. So, yes, there\u2019s always the tension between the fear and what is. I think we did settle on, \u201cYes, it\u2019s scary; but God is there.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf I had a fear, it was, \u201cWhat is going to happen to my daughters?\u201d My granddaughter said to me, \u201cNanny, I want you here where I get married.\u201d You know, that kind of thing is like, \u201cWhoa! I want to be there when you get married.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut when\u2014I would sit a long time with my journal, with my Bible\u2014and my fears about my daughters was, \u201cHow are they are going to do?\u201d \u201cHow is Robert going to do?\u201d Then, I thought: \u201cWait! Do I think that I know more than God does? Do I think that He doesn\u2019t know how to take care of my daughters?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWell, as the months progressed, my daughters were the women of faith that rose up. They\u2019d call and say: \u201cHere\u2019s our hymn for the day. Here\u2019s a verse for the day,\u201d or they\u2019d text me. They are the ones\u2014that their faith just deepened, same with Robert\u2014and our love deepened for each other. I didn\u2019t think that was possible. Everybody talked about it as a battle. I really never thought of it as a battle. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> You say your theology was more important than your oncologist and what he or she was saying about your disease. You expressed that hymns\u2014and you didn\u2019t say this, but I know this to be true\u2014hymns became an expression of that theology because\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bobbie:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014they reminded you of the truth. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bobbie:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And I\u2019m going to ask you a real tough question. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bobbie:<\/strong> Okay. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> If you could only sing one song, from the past 13 months, what song would you and Robert sing together? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bobbie:<\/strong> Well, the one that I sang, in the middle of the night, the most\u2014when fears would try to take me down\u2014the hymn that I had memorized the year before\u2014and I memorize a hymn every year\u2014sort of an unusual one that I don\u2019t know if Robert knows all the words to this one is [singing]:\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<em>\u00a0<\/em><em>Sing praise to God who reigns above,<\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<em>\u00a0<\/em><em>the God of all creation,<\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<em>\u00a0<\/em><em>the God of power, the God of love, <\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<em>\u00a0<\/em><em>the God of our salvation. <\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<em>\u00a0<\/em><em>With healing balm, my soul He fills, <\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<em>\u00a0<\/em><em>and every faithless murmur stills. <\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<em>\u00a0<\/em><em>To God all praise and glory. <\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br>Every verse of that hymn I had memorized the year before\u2014speaking of preparation\u2014and the Holy Spirit would bring that to me. I would lie in bed; and when anything would come try to assail me\u2014I mean, those words were just like a blanket\u2014and in the car trips to MD Anderson\u2014every chemo treatment\u2014we picked a hymn, and we sang it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> The words of the hymns\u2014and these are the great hymns of the faith. These are words that contain the radiance of Christ, and who He is, and the reality about God. Speaking of great theology, these hymns remind us of the truth. Speak to that\u2014why the words of these hymns are so important to you. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bobbie:<\/strong> They were crafted by theologians who understood the character of God\u2014the eternal, the infinite, the unchangeable nature of His power, His perfection, His goodness, His glory. You can\u2019t be saturated with that and either be\u2014murmuring and complaining, or sad or not trusting. I felt like the future is totally in His hands. He doesn\u2019t do anything that\u2019s a mistake. If I believe that He\u2019s good and He\u2019s gracious, I believe He is working through me. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat the most amazing thing to me was\u2014and I told this to Robert\u2014I said, \u201cIf it hadn\u2019t been stage four, I wouldn\u2019t have had the opportunity to be asked by MD Anderson to go and visit other patients, that are stage two and three, that need a role model for what it means to have peace\u2014for what it means to not be hysterical.\u201d I was, literally, able to go visit women in the hospital that had just had surgery for ovarian cancer. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes, I want to ask you about this because you go to the hospital so they can fix you; but you were going to the hospital as much as a missionary\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robert:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014as you were a patient. In fact, the patient-side\u2014\u2014it seemed like that was almost secondary to the mission that God had you on in that hospital. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bobbie:<\/strong> I didn\u2019t know that, at the time; but I did ask my doctor, and the other doctors\u2019 assistants, that were in there\u2014I would\u2014every time, I\u2019d go\u2014I\u2019d say, \u201cHow can I pray for <em>you<\/em>?\u201d After a while\u2014at first, they said, \u201cOh, anyway you want.\u201dThen, I said, \u201cNo, I need you to tell me what concerns you.\u201d Usually, it was: \u201cWe need more help at the hospital. We need peace. We definitely need peace because we\u2019re dealing with life and death matters every day.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI said, \u201cWell, that\u2019s something I know about.\u201d I said, \u201cThe Lord\u201d\u2014when I\u2019d leave, I would usually say: \u201cThe Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face to shine upon you and give you His peace.\u201d I would just go like this\u2014like over them, with my hands\u2014like peace in the air. I think that made a difference because they were counting on the peace of God, sort of coming in the door, with Robert and me. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robert:<\/strong> They actually sent a patient to Bobbie, while she was getting a chemo treatment. So, there\u2019s this poison going into her system; and she\u2019s praying with a woman\u2014standing there, next to her\u2014encouraging her, who had just gotten the news that she had cancer. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bobbie:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robert:<\/strong> So, MD Anderson has been an amazing friend to us. There are some believers there, and there are some folks who are seeking; but they know that there is something in Bobbie\u2019s spirit that they want, and they want their patients to have the same. So, they\u2019ve just opened their doors to us\u2014done videos of Bobbie\u2014and given her a chance to talk about her faith. It\u2019s been pretty remarkable. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bobbie:<\/strong> Well, you know, if we had asked the Lord to give us a platform to talk about Jesus and salvation to others, this cancer has been definitely a platform. I have been in Wal-Mart, when my head was naked, and it was too hot in the summer to wear a wig or even a scarf. I\u2019ve had people come up to me. I had one lady come up to me; and she said, \u201cCan I hug you?\u201d I said, \u201cYes!\u201d She said, \u201cI\u2019m a survivor!\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt is an <em>amazing<\/em> community of people\u2014of women\u2014that have been through ovarian or breast cancer\u2014that have gone through losing their hair. That was just one symbol\u2014that the hair loss was sort of a big deal because women and our hair\u2014it\u2019s really a big deal\u2014but that has given me an opportunity to be fearless about sharing what Jesus has done for me. That\u2019s really all we are. We\u2019re just all sharing what God has done in our lives, and that\u2019s the best testimony you can give.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis<\/strong>: There has to be a listener, who is hearing you\u2014you two, talk right now. They are going, \u201cI feel like I don\u2019t have any faith, at all, compared to you, Bobbie, or Robert.\u201d You\u2014I want you to talk with them about, \u201cHow can they grow their faith?\u201d and frankly, I think that\u2019s what your devotional about the Bible is all about. It\u2019s about couples growing their faith in Christ together, not separately\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robert:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014but growing it together. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bobbie:<\/strong> I\u2019m aching for that person. I just want to go and put my arms around them and say, \u201cIf you can just ask God to protect your joy,\u201d because, really, what problems\u2014what fear takes from us\u2014it tries to rob us of the joy that we have and of the peace that we have. So, if the attack is on our joy and our peace, \u201cWhat will bring joy and peace to me?\u201d It\u2019s being so positive that this is in the hands\u2014the very capable, very loving hands\u2014of God. \u201cWhat do I believe about God? Do I believe He is loving? Do I believe He allows me to go through very difficult situations, but that He will be with me? If I know He\u2019s with me, then, I\u2019m okay.\u201d <br><br>I got a strong word from Scripture, and I sang it. In my case with hymns, I sang it. And then, I really enjoyed the prayers of other people. I had 31 precious, young moms that I teach in a Bible study. They signed up to pray for me\u2014an hour on the hour. The whole day I had prayer going around me. That is something you can either give to someone else or ask God to give someone a thought about you to pray for you. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br>The other thing, someone sent me, every three days, a card with a handwritten Bible verse on it. By the time I finished several months, I had Scripture cards all over the house. The joy was on trial, but we didn\u2019t let the devil take our joy. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robert:<\/strong> And there were things that we did every single day. The wonderful thing the Lord has done is given us night and then a new day\u2014new every morning. Every morning, I make oatmeal for Bobbie. Then, we sit down, eat the oatmeal together; and then, we read through the Bible. Bobbie has read through the Bible 26 times. In the last 26 years, she has read through the Bible every year. So, what you are hearing now is just a continuum of what\u2019s already been there. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe sent this manuscript in for <em>Couples of the Bible<\/em>, actually, from the hospital. The writing of the book preceded this crisis, if you will\u2014so, prayer every morning together, Bible reading every morning together\u2014just the basics. The Lord speaks to you while you\u2019re soaking in His Word. God is so present. He\u2019s so faithful, day after day. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tEvery day, sunrise comes up\u2014you do that again, and you do it again, and you do it again. God changes your heart and allows you to see this experience, really, not as a trial\u2014that sounds really crazy\u2014but it really isn\u2019t a trial. It\u2019s just one more opportunity for Him to get the glory through your life. We\u2019re not making that up. That\u2019s real. That\u2019s our experience. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong> Bobbie, when somebody is diagnosed with stage four ovarian cancer, what do doctors say is typical in that situation? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bobbie:<\/strong> I don\u2019t think there is a typical case. They talk about the possibilities of treatment, but they really\u2014at least\u2014I\u2019m sure a doctor needs to be very careful not to take away a person\u2019s hope. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I never googled or went on the internet to find out what my chances are. I don\u2019t think I was being Pollyanna and sticking my head in the sand. I think I really wanted to handle this without being a statistic. I said, again: \u201cThe day of my birth and the day of my death has been settled in eternity. I\u2019m not going to change that.\u201d So, I didn\u2019t want to have things in my head that would rob my joy, rob my peace, or rob my hope. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> So, do you know what the doctors are saying today about\u2014after six treatments? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bobbie:<\/strong> Yes, I\u2019m in remission. The doctor was very careful with her words. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong> Okay. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bobbie:<\/strong> She said, \u201cYou are in remission.\u201d I go in for tests\u2014for blood tests\u2014and for scans. So far, my CT scans have been NED, no evidence of disease; but again, every time you go in, you get your blood work and you say: \u201cHmm? I wonder what today is going to bring.\u201d So, again, it\u2019s that kind of, \u201cYou wait and see.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I\u2019ll tell you what there is evidence of\u2014there is evidence of a very simple, yet profound faith in Almighty God\u2014that He knows what He\u2019s doing. It\u2019s not just a faith of a woman or of a man but of a couple. I think what you are modeling, here, for\u2014whether a couple is just starting out their journey together in the first months of their marriage or whether they\u2019ve been married 30, 40, 50 years\u2014the spiritual disciplines that we employ as husband and wife will be the same spiritual disciplines that carry us through the valleys and the storms when they come in life. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m grateful that you\u2019re in remission, but that you also are in spiritual growth, and you\u2019re in a dynamic relationship with Christ, and you\u2019re leading other couples in the direction they ought to go. I think the <em>Couples of the Bible<\/em> one-year devotional guide needs to be used by couples to get them in the Book. And that was my\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Robert:<\/strong> That\u2019s it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014prayer for this broadcast. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> To get them ready for what is ahead because the point is we don\u2019t know what\u2019s ahead. The time to get ready is not when something hits, but it\u2019s before the storms come.
