I knew all the people that drank alcohol. I knew all the people whose parents were at work during the day, after school; and so we could go over to people's houses and continue partying all day.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> This is <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> for Wednesday, April 17th. Our host is the President of FamilyLife<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, Dennis Rainey, and I'm Bob Lepine.\u00a0 We need to take the Bible seriously when it says, \u201cDon't be deceived. Bad company corrupts good morals.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd welcome to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>. Thanks for joining us on the Wednesday edition. I had an experience recently, getting together with a group of guys; and we were getting together once a week. We\u2019d just sit around and kind of talk about life, about what's going on, how we're doing. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen we started this group, we had everybody in the group just share their story.\u00a0 You know what\u2019s your background, where\u2019d you grow up, what kind of stuff did you deal with in life; and by the time everybody was done sharing their story, we were all looking at each other going, \u201cMan, we all had some pretty messed-up stuff happening when we were growing up.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s interesting because you don\u2019t stop to think that everybody around you is experiencing challenges like you\u2019re experiencing in life.\u00a0 You tend to think that you went through your challenges, but everybody else had a <em>Leave it to Beaver<\/em> life at their house.\u00a0 And here we were, this group of nine guys all looking at each other and saying, \u201cThere's a lot of mess here,\u201d you know? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Everybody has a story. You know what? They really do. The problem in this culture is we seldom stop and sit down with a group of men like you do, Bob\u2014five to seven men, maybe as many as nine, like you talk about\u2014and let one another tell their story and get real with one another.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe have a couple with us who\u2014well, they\u2019re telling their story this week on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>. Bob and Karrie Wood join us. Bob, Karrie, welcome back to the broadcast.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Karrie:<\/strong> Thank you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood: <\/strong>Thank you. It\u2019s good to be back.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Bob and Karrie give leadership to Celebrate Recovery in Little Rock, Arkansas, at Fellowship Bible Church. Earlier we heard Karrie's story of God's redemption, of how He took a lot of broken pieces and a lot of hidden hurts and brought healing and hope to a girl\u2019s life.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Karrie: <\/strong>Yes, He did.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And today we want to get Bob's story because you have a story that's unique as well. I want to go to the point, though, where you hit rock bottom in your story. Do you remember the time it was, Bob?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> I can still visualize it today. It was 1994, April 10<sup>th<\/sup>; and my parents had written a letter to me outlining what their expectations were of me. It was basically an intervention. And they told me how much they loved me, how much they cared about me, but they couldn't watch me destroy my life anymore; and if I didn't get help, I was going to have to leave their house and the family business that I was working in.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> How old were you at the time?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> I was 23 years old.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> So, Mom and Dad saw enough happening with you that they said, \u201cWe\u2019ve got to risk the relationship and step in here and try to get some help.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> That's right. They had to risk the consequences of what I might do, but they couldn\u2019t sit there and enable me to continue in my behavior because I was causing harm. I was bringing drugs into their home. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBy this point, I was a crystal meth addict. I\u2019d been using for three years. I was selling crystal meth as well as using it. I\u2019d lost 40 pounds. I was down to about 125 pounds. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> How often were you using crystal meth? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Oh, daily. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> How often each day? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Throughout the whole day. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine: <\/strong>Did you know that your life was messed up?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Oh, no. I thought I had it all together. I was still maintaining my job; I was still participating in life as much as I saw it; and I didn\u2019t see how desperate my situation had become.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> So, that letter was a real wake up call for you? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> It was a real wake up call, but it didn\u2019t happen right away. In fact, I took the letter, and I crumpled it up and threw it back in their face and walked out the house.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> Let me take you back to the beginnings of life for you because to have a mom and dad step in and intervene, that\u2019s a healthy thing for them to do. Did you grow up in a healthy home?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> I would say as healthy as normal is\u2014whatever we define normal as, right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> I grew up in Southern California. I was the middle child of three kids. My dad was a heavy drinker to the point of alcoholic. My mom and I had kind of a kindred spirit. We got along really well, but I always felt distant and unemotionally connected to my dad.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Did your dad ever admit he was an alcoholic? Did he ever come to the point of confessing, \u201cI am an alcoholic. I\u2019ve got a problem with this?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> No. He ended up quitting drinking as a result of a health issue; and then, that turned into workaholism.\u00a0 And that\u2019s a real common trait that I\u2019ve found that alcoholics do is when they quit drinking they go to workaholism to fill that void.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> So, life in Southern California for you with an alcoholic father and a mom that you get along with is just kind of normal life, right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> And throughout your elementary school years, you would describe them as mostly peaceful, mostly happy?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Yes, I mean, my mom was a room mom. Everything seemed fine. I got A\u2019s and B\u2019s all throughout school. I was in advanced placement classes. I mean, everything on the outside really looked good.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> Anything going on spiritually at home?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Nothing to speak of. We did grow up, my mom being Catholic; but we only went to Mass\u2014the Leaster and Poinsettia churchgoers.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> And did you have any sense of who God was or that He existed or you had heard some stories of Jesus, anything?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> No, as far as I was concerned, there was no God; and we were just on this earth for our period of time; and we died, and it was over.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> The next major event in your life that marked it occurred in the attic. Now, I don\u2019t know why it is that attics and basements are places where damaging things occur to little boys and little girls; but in your life it took an attic to mark your life in a dramatic way.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> And that was a place for me that I would play. I would pretend like I was in a fort or a soldier. I remember the day that I found pornography in the attic; and I remember the rush that flowed through me. I knew it was wrong, I knew I shouldn't be looking at it, but I just kept going back. I couldn't stop.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Whose was it?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> It was my parents\u2019.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Did you ever ask your dad about it?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Not a word.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> How old were you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> I was probably 12.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> But you\u2019d found the secret stash, and your dad didn\u2019t know you\u2019d found it.\u00a0 Did he even know it was still up there, do you think?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> I\u2019m not even sure if he did.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> But I sure did, and I kept going back over and over again, trying to get the fix that I experienced that first time.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> Your exposure at age 12, you said it was a recurring pattern now, where you were going to revisit this pornography. What did that open up for you in life? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> I think it opened up a window to my soul that I didn\u2019t know I was tapping into. I didn\u2019t understand the consequences of it. I didn\u2019t understand what healthy sexuality looked like. I didn\u2019t have a model for it. I was never taught it. So, everything I discovered about sexuality I discovered on my own.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Did your dad ever talk to you about the birds and the bees?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Never.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Anybody else?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Never.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> So, you\u2019re learning it on the pages of these magazines, and that\u2019s defining for you what a relationship with a member of the opposite sex ought to look like, right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Right. It defined it for me. It actually laid it out for me what I thought sexuality was all about.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> And what did that do during junior high and senior high then?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Well, as it progressed I continued acting out sexually, continued trying to have promiscuous relationships with other women; and then, ultimately, led into a lifestyle of drugs and alcohol as I traveled into junior high school.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> Now, wait. How are you connecting pornography with drugs and alcohol? What\u2019s the connection?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Because of the lifestyle I was starting to live. I was living a lifestyle that was not consistent with God\u2019s pattern for me. I was trying to do things my way rather than His way. Although I didn't understand that at the time, I can look back and see that\u2019s what was happening. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd through the promiscuous relationships, I discovered alcohol; through alcohol, I discovered drugs; and there\u2019s a subculture that starts to take place there that that\u2019s who I started connecting with. I knew all the people that did drugs. I knew all the people that drank alcohol. I knew all the people whose parents were at work during the day, after school; and so we could go over to people\u2019s houses and continue partying all day.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> In your testimony you said, \u201cWhen I first tried alcohol, something in me clicked, and I felt right at home. This is what I\u2019d been looking for to cure the restless feeling I had inside. This ultimately led to harder drugs and heavier drinking.\u201d What clicked?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> I always felt different than the other kids. I always felt like I didn\u2019t fit in, even though I tried through sports and through after-school activities. I always tried to fit in, and always felt just a little awkward like I didn't quite connect with people.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd when I tried alcohol that first time, I felt like, \u201cWow, I\u2019ve got courage. I can now talk to the girls. I can now connect with people in a way that I was never able to connect before.\u201d It changed how I perceived all my relationships, because now I felt like I needed this outside substance to help me to connect with people in a real way.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> Was this a big part of the 7<sup>th<\/sup> or 8<sup>th<\/sup> grade culture you were in?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Well, what I would do is immerse myself in that culture. Although I don\u2019t think it was happening with all the students throughout the school, I found those that did and connected with them and continued to allow that to pursue in my life.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> Do you remember the first time you used drugs?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> I remember the first time like it was yesterday. Somebody had brought marijuana to school, and I thought \u201cHow curious this is. I wonder what that\u2019s like.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Now, this is in\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Junior high school.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014seventh grade?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Seventh grade.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> Hello.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> And I thought, \u201cI wonder what this would be like? I wonder what kind of effect this would have on me?\u201d And I was with my friends who I was used to interacting with on this level; and I thought, \u201cThey're doing it. Why shouldn't I do it, too?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> And if drinking gives you courage\u2026\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Why not marijuana to go with it?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> Yes, \u201cWhat\u2019s this going to do? This may be something even more special.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> So, you moved to harder drugs. What were the other drugs you moved to?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> In just a short time, I tried cocaine for the first time; and this was at about age 15\u2014not even able to drive yet. And then, what I realized was alcohol, at one point, became harder for me to get than drugs did.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> You're kidding.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> So my drug addiction actually overcame my alcoholism.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I\u2019ve often wanted to ask this question\u2014because I don\u2019t know that I\u2019ve had the right person in the studio to be able to ask it to\u2014\u201cHow do you find drugs?\u201d I mean I know I\u2019m not running with the crowd that sells drugs; but what you\u2019re saying and what you\u2019re implying here is the crowd of kids you were running with had so much access to drugs it was like almost ordering a Big Mac.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Right. A neighbor moved in across the street from me\u2014an older man that was about 21 years old, and I was about 15\u2014and we started smoking pot together; and then he introduced me to cocaine. It was like a natural flow of events for me.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> You don\u2019t find drugs; drugs find you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> If you\u2019re in that crowd\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> They\u2019ll find you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> \u2014it comes your way. For a 15 year old who has now been drinking, smoking pot, and is now doing cocaine, Mom and Dad have any clue that anything is going on with you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Mom and Dad had no idea at this point what was happening.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> What about the money? I mean, what does it cost to snort\u2014what do you call it\u2014snort a line of cocaine, is that what you do?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> What does that cost?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> I would spend probably $20 each time I would use it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And how long would that last?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Usually just for the day.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Where would you get the 20 bucks because you\u2019ve got to have another 20 tomorrow?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Right. I would do chores around the house. I also started working at an early age because my parents had a family business; so, I started working with them when I was about 15 and a half\u2014just part-time after school\u2014and that began to provide me some income that I could use to spend. I mean we would scrape up pennies if we had to.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Did you ever sell?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Not at this point. I did later on in life, but I didn\u2019t at this point.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> But Mom and Dad never thought, \u201cWhat\u2019s he doing with all the money he\u2019s earning?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Never thought about it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> Your use continued through high school. At this point, were you known as one of the druggies at high school?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Yes. I was known as somebody you can get drugs from or could sell drugs to.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Ever get busted?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> I did once.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> What happened?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> I was behind a roller-skating rink at that time, and had some cocaine in my car and some marijuana in my car; and it was in a dark parking lot behind it. The police drove around and just knew two people sitting in a parking lot behind a roller-skating rink had to be doing something and asked us to step out of the car. In the process, I revealed the drugs that I had.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> So, they took you to the police station?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> They took me to the police station, called my parents, and just released me to them with no charges.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> What did your parents say?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> They were furious. They had no idea how bad things were; and, of course, I didn\u2019t lead them to believe that things were all that bad. I said, \u201cI\u2019m not using it all the time. I\u2019m not using it on a regular basis. This was just a one-time thing. I just happened to get caught.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> So, you lied through your teeth?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> I lied through my teeth. One of the things that I\u2019ve learned in recovery\u2014if an active addict\u2019s lips are moving, they\u2019re probably lying. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Bob, you remember John Vawter's daughter who we interviewed here on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>. She said to us as parents\u2014she said, \u201cMy ability to conceal the truth is greater than you as a parent\u2019s ability to determine the truth.\u201d And as a parent you tend to think, \u201cNow, that could never happen in my home.\u201d But it can happen, can\u2019t it?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Of course, no mom wants to think that their son is a drug addict; and the other thing that I would keep in mind is a lot of the kids that are using drugs and alcohol like I was are very intelligent, bright, smart kids. They know how to work the system. They know how to work their parents. They know how to work the system at school.\u00a0 There are entrepreneurs in schools selling drugs.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> What was happening to your grades during this time?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> At this point, they did start to drop.\u00a0 My attendance was down. I was skipping school on a regular basis. I was down to D\u2019s and F\u2019s. So they did start to notice that things were escalating, but they didn\u2019t know what to do.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Any health issues?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Not to speak of.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> So, there was no tipoff there that your parents could notice weight loss or any look in your eyes. Could they have given you a drug test and caught you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> In fact, at one point, they tried doing that. They did give me drug tests for over six months while I was in a counseling program, and what I did is learn all the drugs that would not show up on a drug test.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> Like what kinds of drugs?\u00a0 Are you talking about prescription painkillers, that kind of stuff?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> No, what I was using at that time was a drug called LSD, also known as acid.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> And acid won\u2019t show up on a drug test?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> It did not show up on a drug screen.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> So, you\u2019re in treatment\u2014six months\u2019 worth of treatment\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Hallucinating?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Hallucinating.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> Isn\u2019t there a counselor catching onto something?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Well, I wouldn\u2019t use while I was actually in the counseling sessions; but there would be three or four days a week that I would be hallucinating on LSD.\u00a0 Even in school, I would use it. And I finally hit a breaking point at about the end of that six months where I really thought I was going to start losing my mind.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> Bob, was there anybody in your life saying, \u201cMan, what are you doing?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> No, because I would keep everybody at bay who would say something like that to me. I would only let people into my world that I knew wouldn\u2019t judge me or wouldn\u2019t say anything to me. I surrounded myself with people that were doing the same thing I was, so I wouldn't have to feel bad about myself. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> Your mom and dad knew you\u2019d been arrested once. That\u2019s probably where they learned a little bit about what you\u2019d been exposed to. You\u2019d tell them, \u201cIt\u2019s just a one-time thing;\u201d but at some point, were they the ones who put you in treatment when you were in a six-month treatment program?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Right. They did suggest that I go to a treatment facility.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> But that doesn't do any good. It eventually gets to a point where they sit down and write you a letter and say, \u201cYou either get some help or we\u2019re going to have to back out of your life. You\u2019re going to have to take care of yourself. We can\u2019t do this anymore.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> I can\u2019t even imagine how difficult that was for my family to make that decision and to realize that their son had gotten to this point in his drug addiction; that they had to write a letter to him basically saying that if you wouldn\u2019t get help, they had to cut ties with him.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> It was actually more than just a letter; it was an intervention.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> It was an intervention.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And explain to our listeners what an intervention is, because I've found in counseling couples who are taking a teenager through a situation like this, many times they don't know what that is.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> I arrived home one day, and I walked in the door. My family was sitting there waiting for me, and they had written a letter that I\u2019ve talked about earlier that outlined what their requirements were for me. They laid down the consequences if I chose not to go through with what their plan was. And that\u2019s how the intervention played out\u2014as each person in the family shared with me how my using had harmed them, how my behavior was causing damage to our family.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> It was a total surprise.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Total surprise.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> They looked you in the eye, read their letters.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Said how much they loved me and how much they cared about me, but couldn\u2019t watch me continue destroying my life.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> As you sat there listening to your mom, your dad, and then who else in your family?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> My sister was there.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> What were you feeling? What were you thinking?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> I was angry. I couldn\u2019t believe that they were doing this. I couldn\u2019t believe that they were going to ask me to actually leave the house. I couldn't believe that I was going to lose my job in the family business. I was upset. I just wanted to run out of the room; and I ultimately took the letter, crumpled it up, and threw it back in their faces and walked out the door.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> You\u2019re saying to yourself, \u201cI don't have to deal with this. I\u2019ll just do what I want to do. I\u2019ll just keep living the way I\u2019m living.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Just picturing that scene, Bob, it reminds me of an intervention I was in with an attorney friend of mine, where we all wrote letters to him\u2014his wife, his daughter\u2014I was a friend\u2014another associate that he worked with; and we surprised him one morning and read those letters and totally stunned him. We got in the car; and we drove him to the airport, put him on a plane, and sent him to a drug rehab unit in another city.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd, you know, we think about that being hard and difficult\u2014and it does take a lot of courage for the people who are closest to the addict to do it\u2014but it is a courageous act of love. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI hate to say it this way, but many times we confuse softness, which is really the result of us being unwilling to face our fears\u2014and from a courage standpoint, we\u2019re not willing to be the courageous person who says to that teenager or that husband or that wife, \u201cYou\u2019ve got a problem. You need to deal with it.\u201d And that may be\u2014in fact, I believe it is the most loving thing that can be done to that person at that time. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> Well, and I\u2019m sure, Bob, that your mom and dad that night looked at each other and said, \u201cDid that do any good? Did that make any difference?\u201d\u00a0 Had to scratch their heads and thought, \u201cIs there any hope?\u201d Yet, hope was just\u00a0 around the corner for you\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> \u2014and it did some good, even though you wadded up the paper and walked out. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIn fact, I was thinking about some of the scenes in the movie <em>Home Run<\/em> which opens up this weekend and which revolves around a pro-athlete who winds up in a Celebrate Recovery program and who finds hope and who finds the Gospel in that program. It\u2019s really a great movie. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThere are a number of scenes in there where you\u2019re thinking, \u201cIs the confrontation that this guy is getting\u201d\u2014he gets confronted over and over again by his manager, by others in his life who confront him on his problem. And it doesn\u2019t look like it is making any difference; but ultimately it does make a difference. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI hope our listeners will make plans to go see the movie, <em>Home Run<\/em>, that opens up this weekend in theaters; and maybe take a friend with you who needs to see the movie. Bob Wood learned that choices do, indeed, have consequences, and one thing does lead to another.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Through the promiscuous relationships, I discovered alcohol; through alcohol, I discovered drugs; and there's a subculture that starts to take place there that that's who I started connecting with.\u00a0 I knew all the people that did drugs. I knew all the people that drank alcohol. I knew all the people whose parents were at work during the day, after school; and so we could go over to people's houses and continue partying all day.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> This is <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> for Wednesday, April 17th. Our host is the President of FamilyLife<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, Dennis Rainey, and I'm Bob Lepine.\u00a0 We need to take the Bible seriously when it says, \u201cDon't be deceived. Bad company corrupts good morals.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd welcome to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>. Thanks for joining us on the Wednesday edition. I had an experience recently, getting together with a group of guys; and we were getting together once a week. We\u2019d just sit around and kind of talk about life, about what's going on, how we're doing. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen we started this group, we had everybody in the group just share their story.\u00a0 You know what\u2019s your background, where\u2019d you grow up, what kind of stuff did you deal with in life; and by the time everybody was done sharing their story, we were all looking at each other going, \u201cMan, we all had some pretty messed-up stuff happening when we were growing up.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s interesting because you don\u2019t stop to think that everybody around you is experiencing challenges like you\u2019re experiencing in life.\u00a0 You tend to think that you went through your challenges, but everybody else had a <em>Leave it to Beaver<\/em> life at their house.\u00a0 And here we were, this group of nine guys all looking at each other and saying, \u201cThere's a lot of mess here,\u201d you know? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Everybody has a story. You know what? They really do. The problem in this culture is we seldom stop and sit down with a group of men like you do, Bob\u2014five to seven men, maybe as many as nine, like you talk about\u2014and let one another tell their story and get real with one another.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe have a couple with us who\u2014well, they\u2019re telling their story this week on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>. Bob and Karrie Wood join us. Bob, Karrie, welcome back to the broadcast.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Karrie:<\/strong> Thank you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood: <\/strong>Thank you. It\u2019s good to be back.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Bob and Karrie give leadership to Celebrate Recovery in Little Rock, Arkansas, at Fellowship Bible Church. Earlier we heard Karrie's story of God's redemption, of how He took a lot of broken pieces and a lot of hidden hurts and brought healing and hope to a girl\u2019s life.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Karrie: <\/strong>Yes, He did.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And today we want to get Bob's story because you have a story that's unique as well. I want to go to the point, though, where you hit rock bottom in your story. Do you remember the time it was, Bob?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> I can still visualize it today. It was 1994, April 10<sup>th<\/sup>; and my parents had written a letter to me outlining what their expectations were of me. It was basically an intervention. And they told me how much they loved me, how much they cared about me, but they couldn't watch me destroy my life anymore; and if I didn't get help, I was going to have to leave their house and the family business that I was working in.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> How old were you at the time?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> I was 23 years old.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> So, Mom and Dad saw enough happening with you that they said, \u201cWe\u2019ve got to risk the relationship and step in here and try to get some help.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> That's right. They had to risk the consequences of what I might do, but they couldn\u2019t sit there and enable me to continue in my behavior because I was causing harm. I was bringing drugs into their home. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBy this point, I was a crystal meth addict. I\u2019d been using for three years. I was selling crystal meth as well as using it. I\u2019d lost 40 pounds. I was down to about 125 pounds. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> How often were you using crystal meth? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Oh, daily. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> How often each day? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Throughout the whole day. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine: <\/strong>Did you know that your life was messed up?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Oh, no. I thought I had it all together. I was still maintaining my job; I was still participating in life as much as I saw it; and I didn\u2019t see how desperate my situation had become.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> So, that letter was a real wake up call for you? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> It was a real wake up call, but it didn\u2019t happen right away. In fact, I took the letter, and I crumpled it up and threw it back in their face and walked out the house.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> Let me take you back to the beginnings of life for you because to have a mom and dad step in and intervene, that\u2019s a healthy thing for them to do. Did you grow up in a healthy home?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> I would say as healthy as normal is\u2014whatever we define normal as, right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> I grew up in Southern California. I was the middle child of three kids. My dad was a heavy drinker to the point of alcoholic. My mom and I had kind of a kindred spirit. We got along really well, but I always felt distant and unemotionally connected to my dad.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Did your dad ever admit he was an alcoholic? Did he ever come to the point of confessing, \u201cI am an alcoholic. I\u2019ve got a problem with this?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> No. He ended up quitting drinking as a result of a health issue; and then, that turned into workaholism.\u00a0 And that\u2019s a real common trait that I\u2019ve found that alcoholics do is when they quit drinking they go to workaholism to fill that void.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> So, life in Southern California for you with an alcoholic father and a mom that you get along with is just kind of normal life, right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> And throughout your elementary school years, you would describe them as mostly peaceful, mostly happy?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Yes, I mean, my mom was a room mom. Everything seemed fine. I got A\u2019s and B\u2019s all throughout school. I was in advanced placement classes. I mean, everything on the outside really looked good.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> Anything going on spiritually at home?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Nothing to speak of. We did grow up, my mom being Catholic; but we only went to Mass\u2014the Leaster and Poinsettia churchgoers.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> And did you have any sense of who God was or that He existed or you had heard some stories of Jesus, anything?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> No, as far as I was concerned, there was no God; and we were just on this earth for our period of time; and we died, and it was over.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> The next major event in your life that marked it occurred in the attic. Now, I don\u2019t know why it is that attics and basements are places where damaging things occur to little boys and little girls; but in your life it took an attic to mark your life in a dramatic way.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> And that was a place for me that I would play. I would pretend like I was in a fort or a soldier. I remember the day that I found pornography in the attic; and I remember the rush that flowed through me. I knew it was wrong, I knew I shouldn't be looking at it, but I just kept going back. I couldn't stop.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Whose was it?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> It was my parents\u2019.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Did you ever ask your dad about it?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Not a word.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> How old were you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> I was probably 12.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> But you\u2019d found the secret stash, and your dad didn\u2019t know you\u2019d found it.\u00a0 Did he even know it was still up there, do you think?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> I\u2019m not even sure if he did.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> But I sure did, and I kept going back over and over again, trying to get the fix that I experienced that first time.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> Your exposure at age 12, you said it was a recurring pattern now, where you were going to revisit this pornography. What did that open up for you in life? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> I think it opened up a window to my soul that I didn\u2019t know I was tapping into. I didn\u2019t understand the consequences of it. I didn\u2019t understand what healthy sexuality looked like. I didn\u2019t have a model for it. I was never taught it. So, everything I discovered about sexuality I discovered on my own.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Did your dad ever talk to you about the birds and the bees?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Never.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Anybody else?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Never.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> So, you\u2019re learning it on the pages of these magazines, and that\u2019s defining for you what a relationship with a member of the opposite sex ought to look like, right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Right. It defined it for me. It actually laid it out for me what I thought sexuality was all about.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> And what did that do during junior high and senior high then?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Well, as it progressed I continued acting out sexually, continued trying to have promiscuous relationships with other women; and then, ultimately, led into a lifestyle of drugs and alcohol as I traveled into junior high school.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> Now, wait. How are you connecting pornography with drugs and alcohol? What\u2019s the connection?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Because of the lifestyle I was starting to live. I was living a lifestyle that was not consistent with God\u2019s pattern for me. I was trying to do things my way rather than His way. Although I didn't understand that at the time, I can look back and see that\u2019s what was happening. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd through the promiscuous relationships, I discovered alcohol; through alcohol, I discovered drugs; and there\u2019s a subculture that starts to take place there that that\u2019s who I started connecting with. I knew all the people that did drugs. I knew all the people that drank alcohol. I knew all the people whose parents were at work during the day, after school; and so we could go over to people\u2019s houses and continue partying all day.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> In your testimony you said, \u201cWhen I first tried alcohol, something in me clicked, and I felt right at home. This is what I\u2019d been looking for to cure the restless feeling I had inside. This ultimately led to harder drugs and heavier drinking.\u201d What clicked?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> I always felt different than the other kids. I always felt like I didn\u2019t fit in, even though I tried through sports and through after-school activities. I always tried to fit in, and always felt just a little awkward like I didn't quite connect with people.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd when I tried alcohol that first time, I felt like, \u201cWow, I\u2019ve got courage. I can now talk to the girls. I can now connect with people in a way that I was never able to connect before.\u201d It changed how I perceived all my relationships, because now I felt like I needed this outside substance to help me to connect with people in a real way.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> Was this a big part of the 7<sup>th<\/sup> or 8<sup>th<\/sup> grade culture you were in?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Well, what I would do is immerse myself in that culture. Although I don\u2019t think it was happening with all the students throughout the school, I found those that did and connected with them and continued to allow that to pursue in my life.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> Do you remember the first time you used drugs?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> I remember the first time like it was yesterday. Somebody had brought marijuana to school, and I thought \u201cHow curious this is. I wonder what that\u2019s like.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Now, this is in\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Junior high school.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014seventh grade?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Seventh grade.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> Hello.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> And I thought, \u201cI wonder what this would be like? I wonder what kind of effect this would have on me?\u201d And I was with my friends who I was used to interacting with on this level; and I thought, \u201cThey're doing it. Why shouldn't I do it, too?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> And if drinking gives you courage\u2026\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Why not marijuana to go with it?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> Yes, \u201cWhat\u2019s this going to do? This may be something even more special.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> So, you moved to harder drugs. What were the other drugs you moved to?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> In just a short time, I tried cocaine for the first time; and this was at about age 15\u2014not even able to drive yet. And then, what I realized was alcohol, at one point, became harder for me to get than drugs did.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> You're kidding.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> So my drug addiction actually overcame my alcoholism.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I\u2019ve often wanted to ask this question\u2014because I don\u2019t know that I\u2019ve had the right person in the studio to be able to ask it to\u2014\u201cHow do you find drugs?\u201d I mean I know I\u2019m not running with the crowd that sells drugs; but what you\u2019re saying and what you\u2019re implying here is the crowd of kids you were running with had so much access to drugs it was like almost ordering a Big Mac.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Right. A neighbor moved in across the street from me\u2014an older man that was about 21 years old, and I was about 15\u2014and we started smoking pot together; and then he introduced me to cocaine. It was like a natural flow of events for me.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> You don\u2019t find drugs; drugs find you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> If you\u2019re in that crowd\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> They\u2019ll find you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> \u2014it comes your way. For a 15 year old who has now been drinking, smoking pot, and is now doing cocaine, Mom and Dad have any clue that anything is going on with you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Mom and Dad had no idea at this point what was happening.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> What about the money? I mean, what does it cost to snort\u2014what do you call it\u2014snort a line of cocaine, is that what you do?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> What does that cost?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> I would spend probably $20 each time I would use it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And how long would that last?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Usually just for the day.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Where would you get the 20 bucks because you\u2019ve got to have another 20 tomorrow?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Right. I would do chores around the house. I also started working at an early age because my parents had a family business; so, I started working with them when I was about 15 and a half\u2014just part-time after school\u2014and that began to provide me some income that I could use to spend. I mean we would scrape up pennies if we had to.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Did you ever sell?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Not at this point. I did later on in life, but I didn\u2019t at this point.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> But Mom and Dad never thought, \u201cWhat\u2019s he doing with all the money he\u2019s earning?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Never thought about it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> Your use continued through high school. At this point, were you known as one of the druggies at high school?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Yes. I was known as somebody you can get drugs from or could sell drugs to.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Ever get busted?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> I did once.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> What happened?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> I was behind a roller-skating rink at that time, and had some cocaine in my car and some marijuana in my car; and it was in a dark parking lot behind it. The police drove around and just knew two people sitting in a parking lot behind a roller-skating rink had to be doing something and asked us to step out of the car. In the process, I revealed the drugs that I had.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> So, they took you to the police station?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> They took me to the police station, called my parents, and just released me to them with no charges.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> What did your parents say?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> They were furious. They had no idea how bad things were; and, of course, I didn\u2019t lead them to believe that things were all that bad. I said, \u201cI\u2019m not using it all the time. I\u2019m not using it on a regular basis. This was just a one-time thing. I just happened to get caught.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> So, you lied through your teeth?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> I lied through my teeth. One of the things that I\u2019ve learned in recovery\u2014if an active addict\u2019s lips are moving, they\u2019re probably lying. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Bob, you remember John Vawter's daughter who we interviewed here on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>. She said to us as parents\u2014she said, \u201cMy ability to conceal the truth is greater than you as a parent\u2019s ability to determine the truth.\u201d And as a parent you tend to think, \u201cNow, that could never happen in my home.\u201d But it can happen, can\u2019t it?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Of course, no mom wants to think that their son is a drug addict; and the other thing that I would keep in mind is a lot of the kids that are using drugs and alcohol like I was are very intelligent, bright, smart kids. They know how to work the system. They know how to work their parents. They know how to work the system at school.\u00a0 There are entrepreneurs in schools selling drugs.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> What was happening to your grades during this time?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> At this point, they did start to drop.\u00a0 My attendance was down. I was skipping school on a regular basis. I was down to D\u2019s and F\u2019s. So they did start to notice that things were escalating, but they didn\u2019t know what to do.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Any health issues?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Not to speak of.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> So, there was no tipoff there that your parents could notice weight loss or any look in your eyes. Could they have given you a drug test and caught you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> In fact, at one point, they tried doing that. They did give me drug tests for over six months while I was in a counseling program, and what I did is learn all the drugs that would not show up on a drug test.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> Like what kinds of drugs?\u00a0 Are you talking about prescription painkillers, that kind of stuff?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> No, what I was using at that time was a drug called LSD, also known as acid.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> And acid won\u2019t show up on a drug test?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> It did not show up on a drug screen.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> So, you\u2019re in treatment\u2014six months\u2019 worth of treatment\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Hallucinating?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Hallucinating.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> Isn\u2019t there a counselor catching onto something?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Well, I wouldn\u2019t use while I was actually in the counseling sessions; but there would be three or four days a week that I would be hallucinating on LSD.\u00a0 Even in school, I would use it. And I finally hit a breaking point at about the end of that six months where I really thought I was going to start losing my mind.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> Bob, was there anybody in your life saying, \u201cMan, what are you doing?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> No, because I would keep everybody at bay who would say something like that to me. I would only let people into my world that I knew wouldn\u2019t judge me or wouldn\u2019t say anything to me. I surrounded myself with people that were doing the same thing I was, so I wouldn't have to feel bad about myself. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> Your mom and dad knew you\u2019d been arrested once. That\u2019s probably where they learned a little bit about what you\u2019d been exposed to. You\u2019d tell them, \u201cIt\u2019s just a one-time thing;\u201d but at some point, were they the ones who put you in treatment when you were in a six-month treatment program?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Right. They did suggest that I go to a treatment facility.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> But that doesn't do any good. It eventually gets to a point where they sit down and write you a letter and say, \u201cYou either get some help or we\u2019re going to have to back out of your life. You\u2019re going to have to take care of yourself. We can\u2019t do this anymore.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> I can\u2019t even imagine how difficult that was for my family to make that decision and to realize that their son had gotten to this point in his drug addiction; that they had to write a letter to him basically saying that if you wouldn\u2019t get help, they had to cut ties with him.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> It was actually more than just a letter; it was an intervention.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> It was an intervention.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And explain to our listeners what an intervention is, because I've found in counseling couples who are taking a teenager through a situation like this, many times they don't know what that is.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> I arrived home one day, and I walked in the door. My family was sitting there waiting for me, and they had written a letter that I\u2019ve talked about earlier that outlined what their requirements were for me. They laid down the consequences if I chose not to go through with what their plan was. And that\u2019s how the intervention played out\u2014as each person in the family shared with me how my using had harmed them, how my behavior was causing damage to our family.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> It was a total surprise.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Total surprise.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> They looked you in the eye, read their letters.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Said how much they loved me and how much they cared about me, but couldn\u2019t watch me continue destroying my life.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> As you sat there listening to your mom, your dad, and then who else in your family?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> My sister was there.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> What were you feeling? What were you thinking?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> I was angry. I couldn\u2019t believe that they were doing this. I couldn\u2019t believe that they were going to ask me to actually leave the house. I couldn't believe that I was going to lose my job in the family business. I was upset. I just wanted to run out of the room; and I ultimately took the letter, crumpled it up, and threw it back in their faces and walked out the door.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> You\u2019re saying to yourself, \u201cI don't have to deal with this. I\u2019ll just do what I want to do. I\u2019ll just keep living the way I\u2019m living.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Just picturing that scene, Bob, it reminds me of an intervention I was in with an attorney friend of mine, where we all wrote letters to him\u2014his wife, his daughter\u2014I was a friend\u2014another associate that he worked with; and we surprised him one morning and read those letters and totally stunned him. We got in the car; and we drove him to the airport, put him on a plane, and sent him to a drug rehab unit in another city.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd, you know, we think about that being hard and difficult\u2014and it does take a lot of courage for the people who are closest to the addict to do it\u2014but it is a courageous act of love. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI hate to say it this way, but many times we confuse softness, which is really the result of us being unwilling to face our fears\u2014and from a courage standpoint, we\u2019re not willing to be the courageous person who says to that teenager or that husband or that wife, \u201cYou\u2019ve got a problem. You need to deal with it.\u201d And that may be\u2014in fact, I believe it is the most loving thing that can be done to that person at that time. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> Well, and I\u2019m sure, Bob, that your mom and dad that night looked at each other and said, \u201cDid that do any good? Did that make any difference?\u201d\u00a0 Had to scratch their heads and thought, \u201cIs there any hope?\u201d Yet, hope was just\u00a0 around the corner for you\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Wood:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob Lepine:<\/strong> \u2014and it did some good, even though you wadded up the paper and walked out. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIn fact, I was thinking about some of the scenes in the movie <em>Home Run<\/em> which opens up this weekend and which revolves around a pro-athlete who winds up in a Celebrate Recovery program and who finds hope and who finds the Gospel in that program. It\u2019s really a great movie. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThere are a number of scenes in there where you\u2019re thinking, \u201cIs the confrontation that this guy is getting\u201d\u2014he gets confronted over and over again by his manager, by others in his life who confront him on his problem. And it doesn\u2019t look like it is making any difference; but ultimately it does make a difference. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI hope our listeners will make plans to go see the movie, <em>Home Run<\/em>, that opens up this weekend in theaters; and maybe take a friend with you who needs to see the movie.
