whether you are more excited about Saturday or Sunday this week, but I think I know the answer to that.\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You know the Super Bowl is a lot of fun\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014and it\u2019s a big event.\u00a0 I\u2019ve been to a couple of them.\u00a0 I\u2019ve done a chapel for the\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014for the losing team.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 No!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 They won?!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh, I\u2019m one and \u201c0\u201d.\u00a0 It was a lot of fun.\u00a0 It was a lot of fun, but I am more excited about Saturday because it\u2019s going to be a Super Saturday to encourage men to step up.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Hundreds of churches\u2014locations all around the country\u2014that are going to be hosting the FamilyLife Stepping Up<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> Super Saturday one-day event for guys.\u00a0 One of the reasons we are mentioning this is because if you\u2019re not signed up to go, there\u2019s probably a Super Saturday event happening near you.\u00a0 You ought to call a couple other guys and say, \u201cWhy don\u2019t we go to this?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And get their sons, if they\u2019ve got a son who\u2019s 14, 15, or 16, to go with you.\u00a0 It\u2019s only a few hours on Saturday.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Even if it\u2019s not happening at your church where you go normally, it\u2019s happening at somebody else\u2019s church.\u00a0 Go!\u00a0 They\u2019d love to have you come.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 If we\u2019re talking to a wife, or a mom or even a single lady, who is dating a guy, get your man to this deal.\u00a0 Let me tell you something.\u00a0 The women, who have seen these videos, they\u2014I hate to say this\u2014but in some regards, they are more excited than the guys are.\u00a0 The reason is they know what it\u2019s going to do for their man.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 It\u2019s going to encourage him to be a man.\u00a0 Here\u2019s the deal, folks\u2014I want you to think back over the past month.\u00a0 How many things in the past month encouraged the man in your life to be a man or you, as a man, to truly step up and embrace what it means to be a man who is following Jesus Christ?\u00a0 There just aren\u2019t a lot of things that encourage us, as men.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWell, this day is not called Super Saturday for nothing.\u00a0 It is going to be a super encouraging day for you, as a man.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Our hope is that it will be catalytic\u2014that following this day, there will be men, all across the country, getting together with four or five other guys\u2014friends of theirs\u2014and going through the Stepping Up video series that we\u2019ve put together\u2014that\u2019s a ten-week series; because, honestly, we want to see 2013 be a year when guys step up.\u00a0 We want them to read Dennis\u2019s book, Stepping Up, go through this material.\u00a0 We think God will use it powerfully in their lives.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And to give you a little idea of the kind of messages you\u2019ll hear\u2014the kind of stimulating thoughts you\u2019re going to hear\u2014we\u2019re going to feature a friend, Jeff Kemp, on the broadcast today.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 A NFL quarter\u2014well, former NFL quarterback.\u00a0 He played in the league\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 He did.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014back in the\u2014when was it?\u2014back in the 80s?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 80s and 90s.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I don\u2019t know how many of our listeners realize this; but Jeff is a part of the team, here at FamilyLife.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 He is.\u00a0 Jeff\u2019s dad, Jack Kemp, ran for Vice President of the United States.\u00a0 Jeff\u2019s a graduate of Dartmouth, earned an MBA from Pepperdine University.\u00a0 He is a great teammate, here at FamilyLife; and as you\u2019re about to hear, he talks about handling life\u2019s blitzes.\u00a0 Ladies, if you don\u2019t know what a blitz is.\u00a0 It\u2019s where the quarterback drops back to pass; and there is this terrifying, thundering crowd of onrushing defenders who are trying to take you out.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Big fellows who are coming after you.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Big guys\u2014called a blitz.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Here\u2019s Jeff Kemp.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Recorded message]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jeff:<\/strong>\u00a0 When I was 11, my dad was playing football for the Buffalo Bills.\u00a0 My mom took me on a special trip to New York City and to Shea Stadium, and I got to watch Dad play.\u00a0 This was the last season of his life, 1969.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAs he was running down the sideline, as a quarterback, with the football\u2014he was very courageous.\u00a0 He didn\u2019t duck out of bounds, like some of the quarterbacks these days, or slide.\u00a0 He ran right into the middle linebacker, over on the sideline.\u00a0 It knocked him out cold.\u00a0 Five minutes\u2014he was lying down\u2014like face down\u2014in the mud, not moving.\u00a0 We were watching this, and it was scary.\u00a0 Dad stayed in the hospital overnight.\u00a0 He didn\u2019t fly home to Buffalo with the team.\u00a0 But we\u2019ve always kind of had a positive memory of it, in a humorous way, because Dad shared the story throughout his campaigns that the headlines in Buffalo\u2019s newspaper read, the next morning, \u201cX-Rays of Kemp\u2019s Head Reveal Nothing.\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 I think he had like eight or nine concussions in his career; I had about six or seven.\u00a0 So, we\u2019ve got a lot in common.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIn 1991, it was my last season of football.\u00a0 We\u2019d had a very nice life that God had blessed us with.\u00a0 I met Stacy in \u201983.\u00a0 We were immediately discipled by a great group of Christian people on the football teams that we were in\u2014went to some great churches.\u00a0 We were living up in Seattle and had a pretty comfortable life.\u00a0 We had three little boys.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tStacy was praying this prayer that God would do something to stir our lives, in a certain way, to where faith would be more real\u2014where it would demand more of us in a way that our kids would see\u2014because kids don\u2019t really see all the challenges of walking with Jesus, and how much we need Him, and, \u201cThanks for this vacation to Disneyland,\u201d and, \u201cThank you for our big backyard,\u201d and, \u201cThank you for this dinner.\u201d\u00a0 Where does the faith come in?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tShe was praying this prayer that God would stir up our lives and help grow the faith of Kyle, Kory, and Kolby.\u00a0 Since that time, Keegan has come along.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t know about the prayer; but the season started off with me, as the fourth quarterback, going into training camp in my 11<sup>th<\/sup> year.\u00a0 They only keep three quarterbacks.\u00a0 Here I was, I thought, at the peak of my career\u2014but also knew that it was unlikely I would make the team.\u00a0 That created some stress and some pressure and an opportunity to pray and see our faith grow.\u00a0 We prayed about it, all summer long\u2014\u201cDaddy made the team!\u201d\u00a0 \u201cThank you, God.\u00a0 We depend on you.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, the starting quarterback got hurt.\u00a0 Instead of me being third-string\u2014I was better than the two guys ahead of me that were paid a million dollars each, and they really wanted to keep them\u2014but I was the older guy who wasn\u2019t paid as much.\u00a0 I was ready to play.\u00a0 So, they made me the starter.\u00a0 Now, we had a new set of pressures because there was an awful lot of pressure on the backup quarterbacks.\u00a0 You don\u2019t really get long\u2014there\u2019s not a long leash on the backup quarterback.\u00a0 If he doesn\u2019t play well, they yank him out.\u00a0 So, there was a lot of faith experience with that and praying for Daddy.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThings were going pretty well.\u00a0 We won some games; we lost some games.\u00a0 But there was high pressure in the sixth game of the season.\u00a0 The headlines in the paper said: \u201cKemp needs a great game to survive because the starting quarterback is coming back the next week from his injury.\u00a0 And they have these two first-round quarterbacks that they probably want to keep.\u00a0 So, if Kemp wins, he might get to stay on the team.\u00a0 If he loses, he won\u2019t.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 Obviously, it was not just me playing.\u00a0 It\u2019s the quarterback and the whole team.\u00a0 Stacy was praying I wouldn\u2019t see the newspaper article in the hotel that morning.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t see it, but I felt the pressure anyway.\u00a0 I knew exactly\u2014I knew what the situation was.\u00a0 It\u2019s a very dog-eat-dog competitive world.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe game was going pretty well\u2014and there is a spiritual principle in this\u2014as it was going well.\u00a0 We were winning over the Los Angeles Raiders.\u00a0 We\u2019re in the fourth quarter.\u00a0 I\u2019m thinking:\u00a0 \u201cThis is good.\u00a0 I need a good game.\u00a0 We\u2019re winning.\u00a0 This is going to help.\u00a0 I should probably be starting again next week; and my stats are pretty good, too.\u201d\u00a0 I gave myself a little credit for having played a good game.\u00a0 It was one of the worst things I\u2019ve ever done in my life.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd we all know this\u2014when you give yourself a little credit, there\u2019s a spiritual twist that goes on.\u00a0 All of a sudden, you\u2019re vulnerable.\u00a0 Well, not only that, but the coaches started calling conservative plays and, then, playing conservative on defense.\u00a0 The other team roared back.\u00a0 We played boring.\u00a0 Had three plays, then, out; three plays, then, out; three plays, then, out.\u00a0 They caught up.\u00a0 Game went into overtime.\u00a0 I had the ball and threw the ball from about my 15 yard line to Brian Blades, a wide receiver.\u00a0 A defensive back, on the other team, who was a friend of mine, Ronnie Lott, dove in front of the ball\u2014intercepted it.\u00a0 They kicked a field goal and beat us in overtime.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAll of a sudden, the tables had turned.\u00a0 The situation wasn\u2019t so good, and I was cut the next day.\u00a0 Mid-season, Daddy loses his job.\u00a0 That\u2019s not too common in\u2014when you\u2019re the first-string quarterback.\u00a0 So, now, we had a chance to pray at the dinner table\u2014and Kyle was seven, I think\u2014and Kyle said:\u00a0 \u201cDear God, thank you for dinner.\u00a0 Thank you for Daddy.\u00a0 Please give him a new job.\u00a0 I want him to be on a new team.\u00a0 Why don\u2019t you put him on the Eagles?\u00a0 Amen.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tKyle didn\u2019t know that the Philadelphia Eagles had a football team, but he had a soccer team who took a vote of what the name of the team should be.\u00a0 Since Isaiah 40:31 is a family Bible verse about \u201c\u2026rising up with wings like eagles\u2026and running and not be weary\u2026\u201d that was kind of a key verse for our family.\u00a0 He voted to name their soccer team the Eagles.\u00a0 So, he was playing on a little league soccer team named the Eagles, and he wanted Daddy to play on a football team named the Eagles.\u00a0 That next morning, after his prayer, I got a call from the Philadelphia Eagles.\u00a0 They had just had their quarterback get hurt, and they needed me.\u00a0 So, the next day, I\u2019m on the plane to Philly, mid-season.\u00a0 I have nine days to learn the system.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, Stacy flies out, after nine days.\u00a0 During that time, she\u2019s praying for a home to live in that will have furnishings.\u00a0 We\u2019re only going to live there for nine weeks or twelve weeks, depending on the playoffs.\u00a0 We need cars to get around.\u00a0 We need a Christian school with a curriculum that fits our kid\u2019s learning disability\u2014that he was in a unique private school.\u00a0 And every one of these prayers\u2014day, after day, after day\u2014would be answered.\u00a0 The one home that we found was ten minutes from the school that had the only curriculum, within like 600 miles, that fit what we were doing at our school in Bellevue, Washington.\u00a0 Just so many things happened, but the kids and Stacy were praying daily for God\u2019s provision in our lives.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tObviously, it\u2019s about more than circumstances; but it\u2019s His source that gives us life.\u00a0 So, she\u2019s having this great answer to her prayer.\u00a0 I still don\u2019t think I knew that she prayed this prayer.\u00a0 So, then, she flies on Saturday night\u2014we had a bye week, which allowed me more time to learn the system.\u00a0 I was the second-string quarterback.\u00a0 She gets into town on Saturday night, puts one of the boys with a babysitter on Sunday morning, and brings two of them to the game at the City of Brotherly Love\u2019s Veterans Stadium, where they are not brotherly or lovely.\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 They are intense!\u00a0 I\u2019ve been booed in that stadium.\u00a0 I got booed in that stadium one time for losing my contact and looking for it on the field, and they were booing me.\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, the quarterback gets hurt.\u00a0 I go in the game, and they blitz me.\u00a0 It\u2019s the 49ers, a team I used to play for.\u00a0 I had a lot of friends on that team; but they didn\u2019t treat me in a friendly way, either.\u00a0 I got hit by a guy\u2019s knee as I fell forward, and he hit me on the top of the helmet.\u00a0 It just knocked me out, cold.\u00a0 I was out, flat, for three minutes\u2014very similar to my dad.\u00a0 <br><br>Stacy\u2019s up there with the boys.\u00a0 She\u2019s wondering, \u201cOh, my gosh!\u00a0 Lord, You have taken care of us.\u00a0 You\u2019ve done all of this, but you\u2019ve now brought us to Philadelphia and without any support system.\u00a0 You are allowing Jeff to get paralyzed?\u201d because I had the neck brace on.\u00a0 They brought out the stretcher.\u00a0 It took a whole long time.\u00a0 Key players on both teams are bowing down to a knee and praying for this injured football player.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tKyle or Kory says, \u201cMommy, who\u2019s hurt on the Eagles?\u201d\u00a0 She goes, \u201cThat\u2019s Daddy.\u201d\u00a0 The boys start to cry.\u00a0 Of course, she\u2019s feeling worse than they because she knows more the possible consequences.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut then, in an amazing way\u2014as God has equipped a woman of God\u2014she says: \u201cOkay, you guys, do you remember when Daddy wasn\u2019t sure if he\u2019d make the team.\u00a0 Then, he did make the team.\u00a0 Then, we needed His help for him to play well.\u00a0 Then, he lost his job.\u00a0 Then, we needed a new team.\u00a0 Then, we prayed about a house.\u00a0 Then, we prayed about finding a car and a school.\u00a0 Who has taken care of us all along?\u201d\u00a0 They said, \u201cGod did.\u201d\u00a0 Then, she said, \u201cWell, God\u2019s going to take care of us now.\u00a0 Let\u2019s pray.\u201d\u00a0 She prays with them, right there, in the stadium.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tMy mom and dad were at the game.\u00a0 Soon, their day shifted from kind of negative to positive because the boys were in a police car.\u00a0 They asked to have the sirens turned on.\u00a0 They got to go with the full siren and all the whoopee doo to the hospital to catch up with my dad, who went in the ambulance with me\u2014and I was there.\u00a0 The conclusion to the story is that x-rays of my head also revealed nothing.\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 So, like father, like son.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut that was our 1991 season.\u00a0 It was one of the greatest faith-growing seasons we\u2019ve ever had in our lives.\u00a0 We look back on it fondly, and our boys know a lot more about God.\u00a0 They are much more close to their mom.\u00a0 I have a lot of fondness for my wife and what she did for me and my career because of how she carried our family through that wild year\u2014and sets up this talk about blitzes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat season, a few weeks later, we went to Houston to play the old Houston Oilers in the Astro Dome.\u00a0 They called it \u201cThe House of Pain\u201d.\u00a0 They had a really good defense\u2014they used to kill quarterbacks.\u00a0 We were having one of those games where they were just destroying the Philadelphia Eagles\u2019 offense.\u00a0 We couldn\u2019t score any points.\u00a0 We were losing 6-3.\u00a0 I came in the game after they knocked Jim McMahon out of the game.\u00a0 So, we finally were moving close to their end zone.\u00a0 We were on the 20 yard line in the third quarter\u2014late in the third quarter.\u00a0 The score is 6-3, and we\u2019ve got to make hay this time.\u00a0 We\u2019ve got to get something in the end zone or we\u2019re not going to win this game.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe coaches have called a long, slow-developing play, where the quarterback drops back seven steps.\u00a0 The tight end, Keith Jackson\u2014who is a Little Rock, Arkansas, resident and has a ministry to kids in the city, doing just what Dwayne Washington does\u2014trains them in character, and gives them confidence, and gets them into college, and helps them with scholarships\u2014those are some of the cool things pro athletes are doing.\u00a0 Anyway, he\u2019s our tight end.\u00a0 Keith is going to run a slow corner route.\u00a0 As I get ready to snap the ball, it\u2019s not just four 300-pounders coming at me, but a couple 250-pound linebackers have beady eyes, froth in the mouth\u2014and they are leaning forward on their toes.\u00a0 It looks like they might be coming toward me.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe free safety, who is supposed to cover all the deep passes in the middle and prevent touchdown passes\u2014he\u2019s like a snake in the grass.\u00a0 He\u2019s kind of sneaking up and getting ready.\u00a0 He\u2019s right in the line of scrimmage when I say, \u201cHut.\u201d\u00a0 He\u2019s coming free because everyone else is blocking other people.\u00a0 I couldn\u2019t go to Columbia, like Marvin\u2019s son, who is playing football.\u00a0 I had to go to Dartmouth, but I do have an education.\u00a0 So, I can figure it out.\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 This is a blitz!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThey\u2019re trying to destroy our offense.\u00a0 This is the most dangerous moment of the game.\u00a0 So, we need to change.\u00a0 Like Dennis said to the men, a minute ago, Helen Keller said, \u201cThe worst thing is not being blind in life.\u00a0 It\u2019s having your eyesight and lacking vision\u201d\u2014vision for the next generation, vision for the spirit, vision for character, vision for your purpose in life.\u00a0 Well, in football, you need to have a bigger vision and know that when the blitz comes, you can convert it.\u00a0 We were prepared by our coaches.\u00a0 I realized, \u201cKeith Jackson\u2019s going to change his route, hopefully, to a quick post.\u00a0 I\u2019m going to shorten my drop to five steps.\u00a0 I\u2019m going to look for him and try to throw it.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tJust as I looked to throw it, I couldn\u2019t see him because there was an eclipse\u2014a total eclipse of the tight end by the free safety in my face.\u00a0 That guy had snuck up, come through the line free, and he was going to hit me; but just before he hit me, I was able to throw the ball, not to the spot I could see\u2014because I couldn\u2019t see Keith Jackson\u2014but I had been trained, by the coaches, on where Keith should go.\u00a0 Kind of in faith, I threw the ball to that spot.\u00a0 Keith gets there, catches it, and scores a touchdown.\u00a0 I\u2019m on my back when I find out that it\u2019s deadly silent in the Houston stadium.\u00a0 That\u2019s good news for the visiting Eagles.\u00a0 We win the game because of that one blitz that allowed us\u2014a vulnerability in the defense\u2014that we converted for a touchdown.\u00a0 <br><br>And that analogy swings around to remind us that\u2014as Jesus said, \u201cIn this world, you will have trouble.\u201d\u00a0 He could have said, \u201cYou will have blitzes.\u201d\u00a0 There will be cancer.\u00a0 There will be lost loved ones.\u00a0 Blitzes are going to come\u2014the economy, our health, marital blitzes, affairs, drifting from one another because of the busyness of a consumer lifestyle.\u00a0 But the other part of a blitz is that God uses all things together for our good, if we\u2019re called according to His purpose and make loving Him the number one purpose.\u00a0 Blitzes can turn into great things.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThink of the cross, the grave, three days in the ground\u2014Jesus letting Lazarus not just die but stay in the tomb for four days.\u00a0 He did so because He didn\u2019t just want them to think, \u201cHe is a really nice friend of Lazarus, who could help him get healed from his sickness.\u201d\u00a0 He wanted to show them He\u2019s the actual giver of life itself, the Creator of everything.\u00a0 He is setting the stage for the Gospel\u2014where we can all come back to life from our sinful life and have eternal life with God.\u00a0 The blitz is opportunity for God to do good.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Studio]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, we\u2019ve been listening to our friend, Jeff Kemp, who is a former NFL quarterback, and who reflects on time in the league; but also, talks about the blitzes we face in life.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou\u2019ve had seasons where you felt like every play\u2014there were linebackers coming at you; didn\u2019t you?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I have been blitzed a few times.\u00a0 In fact, I\u2019ve said, recently, when I became a follower of Christ, I wish someone would have shown me the fine print in the contract that says:\u00a0 \u201cYou know what?\u00a0 You\u2019re about to enter into a lifetime of facing blitzes, challenges, suffering, valleys.\u201d\u00a0 Here\u2019s the message:\u00a0 As a man, if you don\u2019t have a game plan\u2014if you don\u2019t know who the main Coach is\u2014I mean capital \u201cC\u201d Coach, as in Jesus Christ\u2014and you\u2019re not submitting to Him, you\u2019re going to be a casualty in the midst of the blitz.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat we\u2019re calling men to do, here, coming up this weekend, Bob, is to show up on Super Saturday, at a church near you.\u00a0 If you don\u2019 know where one of Saturday\u2014is the pre-game rally for the team, where guys are going to get together\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Training camp.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s exactly right.\u00a0 You\u2019re going to get some training.\u00a0 You\u2019re going to get some equipping so you can head into the season of life, ready to run the plays.\u00a0 Then, our hope is that guys are going to huddle up, once a week, with other guys for the next ten weeks following Super Saturday and continue to go through training camp\u2014continue to get instructions in the huddle as they go through the Stepping Up video series for men that we\u2019ve put together.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 In fact, Bob, if a guy isn\u2019t able to come to Super Saturday but wants to start one of these groups, where men huddle up\u2014half a dozen guys going through a video a week for ten weeks\u2014tell them how they can get a copy of that.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 First thing you have to do is get an order of wings, every week, because if you\u2019re going to get guys together\u2014it\u2019s either wings, or cheese dip will work, or there\u2019s got to be\u2014I don\u2019t know what else you put in there.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You should first order the kit, though, Bob.\u00a0 know the Super Bowl is a lot of fun\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014and it\u2019s a big event.\u00a0 I\u2019ve been to a couple of them.\u00a0 I\u2019ve done a chapel for the\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014for the losing team.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 No!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 They won?!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh, I\u2019m one and \u201c0\u201d.\u00a0 It was a lot of fun.\u00a0 It was a lot of fun, but I am more excited about Saturday because it\u2019s going to be a Super Saturday to encourage men to step up.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Hundreds of churches\u2014locations all around the country\u2014that are going to be hosting the FamilyLife Stepping Up<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> Super Saturday one-day event for guys.\u00a0 One of the reasons we are mentioning this is because if you\u2019re not signed up to go, there\u2019s probably a Super Saturday event happening near you.\u00a0 You ought to call a couple other guys and say, \u201cWhy don\u2019t we go to this?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And get their sons, if they\u2019ve got a son who\u2019s 14, 15, or 16, to go with you.\u00a0 It\u2019s only a few hours on Saturday.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Even if it\u2019s not happening at your church where you go normally, it\u2019s happening at somebody else\u2019s church.\u00a0 Go!\u00a0 They\u2019d love to have you come.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 If we\u2019re talking to a wife, or a mom or even a single lady, who is dating a guy, get your man to this deal.\u00a0 Let me tell you something.\u00a0 The women, who have seen these videos, they\u2014I hate to say this\u2014but in some regards, they are more excited than the guys are.\u00a0 The reason is they know what it\u2019s going to do for their man.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 It\u2019s going to encourage him to be a man.\u00a0 Here\u2019s the deal, folks\u2014I want you to think back over the past month.\u00a0 How many things in the past month encouraged the man in your life to be a man or you, as a man, to truly step up and embrace what it means to be a man who is following Jesus Christ?\u00a0 There just aren\u2019t a lot of things that encourage us, as men.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWell, this day is not called Super Saturday for nothing.\u00a0 It is going to be a super encouraging day for you, as a man.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Our hope is that it will be catalytic\u2014that following this day, there will be men, all across the country, getting together with four or five other guys\u2014friends of theirs\u2014and going through the Stepping Up video series that we\u2019ve put together\u2014that\u2019s a ten-week series; because, honestly, we want to see 2013 be a year when guys step up.\u00a0 We want them to read Dennis\u2019s book, Stepping Up, go through this material.\u00a0 We think God will use it powerfully in their lives.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And to give you a little idea of the kind of messages you\u2019ll hear\u2014the kind of stimulating thoughts you\u2019re going to hear\u2014we\u2019re going to feature a friend, Jeff Kemp, on the broadcast today.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 A NFL quarter\u2014well, former NFL quarterback.\u00a0 He played in the league\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 He did.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014back in the\u2014when was it?\u2014back in the 80s?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 80s and 90s.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I don\u2019t know how many of our listeners realize this; but Jeff is a part of the team, here at FamilyLife.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 He is.\u00a0 Jeff\u2019s dad, Jack Kemp, ran for Vice President of the United States.\u00a0 Jeff\u2019s a graduate of Dartmouth, earned an MBA from Pepperdine University.\u00a0 He is a great teammate, here at FamilyLife; and as you\u2019re about to hear, he talks about handling life\u2019s blitzes.\u00a0 Ladies, if you don\u2019t know what a blitz is.\u00a0 It\u2019s where the quarterback drops back to pass; and there is this terrifying, thundering crowd of onrushing defenders who are trying to take you out.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Big fellows who are coming after you.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Big guys\u2014called a blitz.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Here\u2019s Jeff Kemp.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Recorded message]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jeff:<\/strong>\u00a0 When I was 11, my dad was playing football for the Buffalo Bills.\u00a0 My mom took me on a special trip to New York City and to Shea Stadium, and I got to watch Dad play.\u00a0 This was the last season of his life, 1969.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAs he was running down the sideline, as a quarterback, with the football\u2014he was very courageous.\u00a0 He didn\u2019t duck out of bounds, like some of the quarterbacks these days, or slide.\u00a0 He ran right into the middle linebacker, over on the sideline.\u00a0 It knocked him out cold.\u00a0 Five minutes\u2014he was lying down\u2014like face down\u2014in the mud, not moving.\u00a0 We were watching this, and it was scary.\u00a0 Dad stayed in the hospital overnight.\u00a0 He didn\u2019t fly home to Buffalo with the team.\u00a0 But we\u2019ve always kind of had a positive memory of it, in a humorous way, because Dad shared the story throughout his campaigns that the headlines in Buffalo\u2019s newspaper read, the next morning, \u201cX-Rays of Kemp\u2019s Head Reveal Nothing.\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 I think he had like eight or nine concussions in his career; I had about six or seven.\u00a0 So, we\u2019ve got a lot in common.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIn 1991, it was my last season of football.\u00a0 We\u2019d had a very nice life that God had blessed us with.\u00a0 I met Stacy in \u201983.\u00a0 We were immediately discipled by a great group of Christian people on the football teams that we were in\u2014went to some great churches.\u00a0 We were living up in Seattle and had a pretty comfortable life.\u00a0 We had three little boys.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tStacy was praying this prayer that God would do something to stir our lives, in a certain way, to where faith would be more real\u2014where it would demand more of us in a way that our kids would see\u2014because kids don\u2019t really see all the challenges of walking with Jesus, and how much we need Him, and, \u201cThanks for this vacation to Disneyland,\u201d and, \u201cThank you for our big backyard,\u201d and, \u201cThank you for this dinner.\u201d\u00a0 Where does the faith come in?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tShe was praying this prayer that God would stir up our lives and help grow the faith of Kyle, Kory, and Kolby.\u00a0 Since that time, Keegan has come along.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t know about the prayer; but the season started off with me, as the fourth quarterback, going into training camp in my 11<sup>th<\/sup> year.\u00a0 They only keep three quarterbacks.\u00a0 Here I was, I thought, at the peak of my career\u2014but also knew that it was unlikely I would make the team.\u00a0 That created some stress and some pressure and an opportunity to pray and see our faith grow.\u00a0 We prayed about it, all summer long\u2014\u201cDaddy made the team!\u201d\u00a0 \u201cThank you, God.\u00a0 We depend on you.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, the starting quarterback got hurt.\u00a0 Instead of me being third-string\u2014I was better than the two guys ahead of me that were paid a million dollars each, and they really wanted to keep them\u2014but I was the older guy who wasn\u2019t paid as much.\u00a0 I was ready to play.\u00a0 So, they made me the starter.\u00a0 Now, we had a new set of pressures because there was an awful lot of pressure on the backup quarterbacks.\u00a0 You don\u2019t really get long\u2014there\u2019s not a long leash on the backup quarterback.\u00a0 If he doesn\u2019t play well, they yank him out.\u00a0 So, there was a lot of faith experience with that and praying for Daddy.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThings were going pretty well.\u00a0 We won some games; we lost some games.\u00a0 But there was high pressure in the sixth game of the season.\u00a0 The headlines in the paper said: \u201cKemp needs a great game to survive because the starting quarterback is coming back the next week from his injury.\u00a0 And they have these two first-round quarterbacks that they probably want to keep.\u00a0 So, if Kemp wins, he might get to stay on the team.\u00a0 If he loses, he won\u2019t.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 Obviously, it was not just me playing.\u00a0 It\u2019s the quarterback and the whole team.\u00a0 Stacy was praying I wouldn\u2019t see the newspaper article in the hotel that morning.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t see it, but I felt the pressure anyway.\u00a0 I knew exactly\u2014I knew what the situation was.\u00a0 It\u2019s a very dog-eat-dog competitive world.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe game was going pretty well\u2014and there is a spiritual principle in this\u2014as it was going well.\u00a0 We were winning over the Los Angeles Raiders.\u00a0 We\u2019re in the fourth quarter.\u00a0 I\u2019m thinking:\u00a0 \u201cThis is good.\u00a0 I need a good game.\u00a0 We\u2019re winning.\u00a0 This is going to help.\u00a0 I should probably be starting again next week; and my stats are pretty good, too.\u201d\u00a0 I gave myself a little credit for having played a good game.\u00a0 It was one of the worst things I\u2019ve ever done in my life.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd we all know this\u2014when you give yourself a little credit, there\u2019s a spiritual twist that goes on.\u00a0 All of a sudden, you\u2019re vulnerable.\u00a0 Well, not only that, but the coaches started calling conservative plays and, then, playing conservative on defense.\u00a0 The other team roared back.\u00a0 We played boring.\u00a0 Had three plays, then, out; three plays, then, out; three plays, then, out.\u00a0 They caught up.\u00a0 Game went into overtime.\u00a0 I had the ball and threw the ball from about my 15 yard line to Brian Blades, a wide receiver.\u00a0 A defensive back, on the other team, who was a friend of mine, Ronnie Lott, dove in front of the ball\u2014intercepted it.\u00a0 They kicked a field goal and beat us in overtime.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAll of a sudden, the tables had turned.\u00a0 The situation wasn\u2019t so good, and I was cut the next day.\u00a0 Mid-season, Daddy loses his job.\u00a0 That\u2019s not too common in\u2014when you\u2019re the first-string quarterback.\u00a0 So, now, we had a chance to pray at the dinner table\u2014and Kyle was seven, I think\u2014and Kyle said:\u00a0 \u201cDear God, thank you for dinner.\u00a0 Thank you for Daddy.\u00a0 Please give him a new job.\u00a0 I want him to be on a new team.\u00a0 Why don\u2019t you put him on the Eagles?\u00a0 Amen.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tKyle didn\u2019t know that the Philadelphia Eagles had a football team, but he had a soccer team who took a vote of what the name of the team should be.\u00a0 Since Isaiah 40:31 is a family Bible verse about \u201c\u2026rising up with wings like eagles\u2026and running and not be weary\u2026\u201d that was kind of a key verse for our family.\u00a0 He voted to name their soccer team the Eagles.\u00a0 So, he was playing on a little league soccer team named the Eagles, and he wanted Daddy to play on a football team named the Eagles.\u00a0 That next morning, after his prayer, I got a call from the Philadelphia Eagles.\u00a0 They had just had their quarterback get hurt, and they needed me.\u00a0 So, the next day, I\u2019m on the plane to Philly, mid-season.\u00a0 I have nine days to learn the system.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, Stacy flies out, after nine days.\u00a0 During that time, she\u2019s praying for a home to live in that will have furnishings.\u00a0 We\u2019re only going to live there for nine weeks or twelve weeks, depending on the playoffs.\u00a0 We need cars to get around.\u00a0 We need a Christian school with a curriculum that fits our kid\u2019s learning disability\u2014that he was in a unique private school.\u00a0 And every one of these prayers\u2014day, after day, after day\u2014would be answered.\u00a0 The one home that we found was ten minutes from the school that had the only curriculum, within like 600 miles, that fit what we were doing at our school in Bellevue, Washington.\u00a0 Just so many things happened, but the kids and Stacy were praying daily for God\u2019s provision in our lives.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tObviously, it\u2019s about more than circumstances; but it\u2019s His source that gives us life.\u00a0 So, she\u2019s having this great answer to her prayer.\u00a0 I still don\u2019t think I knew that she prayed this prayer.\u00a0 So, then, she flies on Saturday night\u2014we had a bye week, which allowed me more time to learn the system.\u00a0 I was the second-string quarterback.\u00a0 She gets into town on Saturday night, puts one of the boys with a babysitter on Sunday morning, and brings two of them to the game at the City of Brotherly Love\u2019s Veterans Stadium, where they are not brotherly or lovely.\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 They are intense!\u00a0 I\u2019ve been booed in that stadium.\u00a0 I got booed in that stadium one time for losing my contact and looking for it on the field, and they were booing me.\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, the quarterback gets hurt.\u00a0 I go in the game, and they blitz me.\u00a0 It\u2019s the 49ers, a team I used to play for.\u00a0 I had a lot of friends on that team; but they didn\u2019t treat me in a friendly way, either.\u00a0 I got hit by a guy\u2019s knee as I fell forward, and he hit me on the top of the helmet.\u00a0 It just knocked me out, cold.\u00a0 I was out, flat, for three minutes\u2014very similar to my dad.\u00a0 <br><br>Stacy\u2019s up there with the boys.\u00a0 She\u2019s wondering, \u201cOh, my gosh!\u00a0 Lord, You have taken care of us.\u00a0 You\u2019ve done all of this, but you\u2019ve now brought us to Philadelphia and without any support system.\u00a0 You are allowing Jeff to get paralyzed?\u201d because I had the neck brace on.\u00a0 They brought out the stretcher.\u00a0 It took a whole long time.\u00a0 Key players on both teams are bowing down to a knee and praying for this injured football player.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tKyle or Kory says, \u201cMommy, who\u2019s hurt on the Eagles?\u201d\u00a0 She goes, \u201cThat\u2019s Daddy.\u201d\u00a0 The boys start to cry.\u00a0 Of course, she\u2019s feeling worse than they because she knows more the possible consequences.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut then, in an amazing way\u2014as God has equipped a woman of God\u2014she says: \u201cOkay, you guys, do you remember when Daddy wasn\u2019t sure if he\u2019d make the team.\u00a0 Then, he did make the team.\u00a0 Then, we needed His help for him to play well.\u00a0 Then, he lost his job.\u00a0 Then, we needed a new team.\u00a0 Then, we prayed about a house.\u00a0 Then, we prayed about finding a car and a school.\u00a0 Who has taken care of us all along?\u201d\u00a0 They said, \u201cGod did.\u201d\u00a0 Then, she said, \u201cWell, God\u2019s going to take care of us now.\u00a0 Let\u2019s pray.\u201d\u00a0 She prays with them, right there, in the stadium.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tMy mom and dad were at the game.\u00a0 Soon, their day shifted from kind of negative to positive because the boys were in a police car.\u00a0 They asked to have the sirens turned on.\u00a0 They got to go with the full siren and all the whoopee doo to the hospital to catch up with my dad, who went in the ambulance with me\u2014and I was there.\u00a0 The conclusion to the story is that x-rays of my head also revealed nothing.\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 So, like father, like son.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut that was our 1991 season.\u00a0 It was one of the greatest faith-growing seasons we\u2019ve ever had in our lives.\u00a0 We look back on it fondly, and our boys know a lot more about God.\u00a0 They are much more close to their mom.\u00a0 I have a lot of fondness for my wife and what she did for me and my career because of how she carried our family through that wild year\u2014and sets up this talk about blitzes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat season, a few weeks later, we went to Houston to play the old Houston Oilers in the Astro Dome.\u00a0 They called it \u201cThe House of Pain\u201d.\u00a0 They had a really good defense\u2014they used to kill quarterbacks.\u00a0 We were having one of those games where they were just destroying the Philadelphia Eagles\u2019 offense.\u00a0 We couldn\u2019t score any points.\u00a0 We were losing 6-3.\u00a0 I came in the game after they knocked Jim McMahon out of the game.\u00a0 So, we finally were moving close to their end zone.\u00a0 We were on the 20 yard line in the third quarter\u2014late in the third quarter.\u00a0 The score is 6-3, and we\u2019ve got to make hay this time.\u00a0 We\u2019ve got to get something in the end zone or we\u2019re not going to win this game.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe coaches have called a long, slow-developing play, where the quarterback drops back seven steps.\u00a0 The tight end, Keith Jackson\u2014who is a Little Rock, Arkansas, resident and has a ministry to kids in the city, doing just what Dwayne Washington does\u2014trains them in character, and gives them confidence, and gets them into college, and helps them with scholarships\u2014those are some of the cool things pro athletes are doing.\u00a0 Anyway, he\u2019s our tight end.\u00a0 Keith is going to run a slow corner route.\u00a0 As I get ready to snap the ball, it\u2019s not just four 300-pounders coming at me, but a couple 250-pound linebackers have beady eyes, froth in the mouth\u2014and they are leaning forward on their toes.\u00a0 It looks like they might be coming toward me.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe free safety, who is supposed to cover all the deep passes in the middle and prevent touchdown passes\u2014he\u2019s like a snake in the grass.\u00a0 He\u2019s kind of sneaking up and getting ready.\u00a0 He\u2019s right in the line of scrimmage when I say, \u201cHut.\u201d\u00a0 He\u2019s coming free because everyone else is blocking other people.\u00a0 I couldn\u2019t go to Columbia, like Marvin\u2019s son, who is playing football.\u00a0 I had to go to Dartmouth, but I do have an education.\u00a0 So, I can figure it out.\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 This is a blitz!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThey\u2019re trying to destroy our offense.\u00a0 This is the most dangerous moment of the game.\u00a0 So, we need to change.\u00a0 Like Dennis said to the men, a minute ago, Helen Keller said, \u201cThe worst thing is not being blind in life.\u00a0 It\u2019s having your eyesight and lacking vision\u201d\u2014vision for the next generation, vision for the spirit, vision for character, vision for your purpose in life.\u00a0 Well, in football, you need to have a bigger vision and know that when the blitz comes, you can convert it.\u00a0 We were prepared by our coaches.\u00a0 I realized, \u201cKeith Jackson\u2019s going to change his route, hopefully, to a quick post.\u00a0 I\u2019m going to shorten my drop to five steps.\u00a0 I\u2019m going to look for him and try to throw it.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tJust as I looked to throw it, I couldn\u2019t see him because there was an eclipse\u2014a total eclipse of the tight end by the free safety in my face.\u00a0 That guy had snuck up, come through the line free, and he was going to hit me; but just before he hit me, I was able to throw the ball, not to the spot I could see\u2014because I couldn\u2019t see Keith Jackson\u2014but I had been trained, by the coaches, on where Keith should go.\u00a0 Kind of in faith, I threw the ball to that spot.\u00a0 Keith gets there, catches it, and scores a touchdown.\u00a0 I\u2019m on my back when I find out that it\u2019s deadly silent in the Houston stadium.\u00a0 That\u2019s good news for the visiting Eagles.\u00a0 We win the game because of that one blitz that allowed us\u2014a vulnerability in the defense\u2014that we converted for a touchdown.\u00a0 <br><br>And that analogy swings around to remind us that\u2014as Jesus said, \u201cIn this world, you will have trouble.\u201d\u00a0 He could have said, \u201cYou will have blitzes.\u201d\u00a0 There will be cancer.\u00a0 There will be lost loved ones.\u00a0 Blitzes are going to come\u2014the economy, our health, marital blitzes, affairs, drifting from one another because of the busyness of a consumer lifestyle.\u00a0 But the other part of a blitz is that God uses all things together for our good, if we\u2019re called according to His purpose and make loving Him the number one purpose.\u00a0 Blitzes can turn into great things.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThink of the cross, the grave, three days in the ground\u2014Jesus letting Lazarus not just die but stay in the tomb for four days.\u00a0 He did so because He didn\u2019t just want them to think, \u201cHe is a really nice friend of Lazarus, who could help him get healed from his sickness.\u201d\u00a0 He wanted to show them He\u2019s the actual giver of life itself, the Creator of everything.\u00a0 He is setting the stage for the Gospel\u2014where we can all come back to life from our sinful life and have eternal life with God.\u00a0 The blitz is opportunity for God to do good.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Studio]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, we\u2019ve been listening to our friend, Jeff Kemp, who is a former NFL quarterback, and who reflects on time in the league; but also, talks about the blitzes we face in life.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou\u2019ve had seasons where you felt like every play\u2014there were linebackers coming at you; didn\u2019t you?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I have been blitzed a few times.\u00a0 In fact, I\u2019ve said, recently, when I became a follower of Christ, I wish someone would have shown me the fine print in the contract that says:\u00a0 \u201cYou know what?\u00a0 You\u2019re about to enter into a lifetime of facing blitzes, challenges, suffering, valleys.\u201d\u00a0 Here\u2019s the message:\u00a0 As a man, if you don\u2019t have a game plan\u2014if you don\u2019t know who the main Coach is\u2014I mean capital \u201cC\u201d Coach, as in Jesus Christ\u2014and you\u2019re not submitting to Him, you\u2019re going to be a casualty in the midst of the blitz.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat we\u2019re calling men to do, here, coming up this weekend, Bob, is to show up on Super Saturday, at a church near you.\u00a0 If you don\u2019 know where one of these Super Saturday events is located\u2014where we\u2019re calling men to step up\u2014go to FamilyLifeToday.com.\u00a0 You can click on a map there and find out where, in your community, you can attend one of these.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut life is coming at us, and you need a plan.\u00a0 We\u2019ll give it to you in that day.\u00a0 Then, we\u2019re going to unveil for you, really, what is a tremendous resource for men, going forward, and how you can grow\u2014as a young man, a single man, a husband, a father, a grandfather\u2014and how you can know exactly what you\u2019re game plan is for life and then live it.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 If you think of living life, as a man, as the game\u2014then, Saturday, Super Saturday\u2014is the pre-game rally for the team, where guys are going to get together\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Training camp.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s exactly right.\u00a0 You\u2019re going to get some training.\u00a0 You\u2019re going to get some equipping so you can head into the season of life, ready to run the plays.\u00a0 Then, our hope is that guys are going to huddle up, once a week, with other guys for the next ten weeks following Super Saturday and continue to go through training camp\u2014continue to get instructions in the huddle as they go through the Stepping Up video series for men that we\u2019ve put together.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 In fact, Bob, if a guy isn\u2019t able to come to Super Saturday but wants to start one of these groups, where men huddle up\u2014half a dozen guys going through a video a week for ten weeks\u2014tell them how they can get a copy of that.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 First thing you have to do is get an order of wings, every week, because if you\u2019re going to get guys together\u2014it\u2019s either wings, or cheese dip will work, or there\u2019s got to be\u2014I don\u2019t know what else you put in there.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You should first order the kit, though, Bob.\u00a0 where\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Exactly.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014you go to eat!\u00a0
