and they\u2019re going to remember it.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 This is <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> for Friday, December 7<sup>th<\/sup>.\u00a0 Our host is the President of FamilyLife<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, Dennis Rainey, and I'm Bob Lepine.\u00a0 We\u2019ll talk today about some strategies for how you can keep Jesus at the center of the Christmas season in your home this year.\u00a0 Stay tuned.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd welcome to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>.\u00a0 Thanks for joining us.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>You know, Bob, I\u2019m looking at the Christmas tree that is in the studio\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 We\u2019ve not often had a Christmas tree in the studio.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 We have not, Bob.\u00a0 Reason is\u2014is because it\u2019s been two men in the studio.\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 We don\u2019t mess with decorations unless we have to\u2014unless there is a wife who says, \u201cWould you help with the decorations?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 There is a reason why a bachelor\u2019s pad looks like one.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, that\u2019s right.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And this studio has all of a sudden become glittery and shiny.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Not just the tree, but there are gifts and there are framed works of art in here.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, the frames, interestingly, were created by Barbara.\u00a0 She has framed great, old hymns from a very old hymnal.\u00a0 She\u2019s hung something over the front of each of these frames to display the names of Christ.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI want to welcome Barbara back because wherever she goes she makes things beautiful.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right, including this studio.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s exactly right.\u00a0 Why don\u2019t you explain to our listeners what you had in mind when you brought the Christmas tree in and also the packages and the frames with the names of Christ on them?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, I wanted to create a little atmosphere for you, gentleman, for starters\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014because I felt like it might kind of help us talk about these names; but I want to say really quickly to what the frames are.\u00a0 I think you\u2019ll be able to find pictures online because I think we have them online.\u00a0 I can\u2019t remember exactly what all is there.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut one of the things that I thought would be helpful to us, as women, would be to think of other ways that we could use these ornaments\u2014and we\u2019re talking about this new set of Adorenaments<em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup><\/em> that we\u2019ve produced with the seven Christmas names of Christ for this year for Christmas.\u00a0 I started thinking about them and thinking, \u201cOkay, how can we make these live past Christmas?\u201d because they are not red and green; and they don\u2019t look like Christmas.\u00a0 So, you\u2019re not going to feel like you have Christmas decorations up in March or May.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 I found some old frames, that didn\u2019t have anything in them\u2014that I wanted to keep\u2014and I had this old hymn book.\u00a0 It was falling apart.\u00a0 I took some of the pages out of the hymn book and glued them on cardboard in the back.\u00a0 Then, I put these names of Christ over the hymns that are about Him and put them in the frames.\u00a0 They turned out quite nicely, I think.\u00a0 So, we will keep ours up all year\u2014just letting you know ahead of time.\u00a0 We will have the names of Jesus framed.\u00a0 We will have them in our house after Christmas is gone.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Tell me.\u00a0 I\u2019m not surprised.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019m sure you\u2019re not.\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 But don\u2019t you think it is a great idea?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think they are beautiful.\u00a0 I saw them.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 They look pretty cool; don\u2019t they?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think they look really good.\u00a0 They also look good on the packages\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014because you\u2019ve used them kind of along with a bow to decorate packages that are here.\u00a0 Do any of the packages have\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014anything in them?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014my name?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019m sorry.\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 These are decorative packages.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 These are decorative, yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Empty boxes, my friend\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014but they really do look beautiful.\u00a0 They really do look nice the way that you\u2019ve taken\u2014and again, I don\u2019t know that our listeners can understand without going to FamilyLifeToday.com and seeing what we\u2019re talking about.\u00a0 You\u2019ve taken names of Jesus from\u2014and they\u2019re stamped metal, and they\u2019re about\u2014what?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 Four by six.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Four or five inches?\u00a0 Four by six\u2014they\u2019re designed to hang on a Christmas tree; or as you\u2019ve done, they are on a package as a decoration or, as you explained, in the frames\u2014seven names of Jesus, three from the Gospel account in Luke, Chapter 2; four from Isaiah, Chapter 9, where we talk about who Jesus is\u2014who is the One that God brought into the world\u2014like the one you just pulled off the tree\u2014Prince of Peace; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 I\u2019m sorry, but I had a flashback.\u00a0 Our listeners know because we\u2019ve talked about this on previous broadcasts.\u00a0 Bob and I have just celebrated an anniversary.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 You did.\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 We did.\u00a0 Now, Barbara and I celebrated one earlier.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, longer than yours and mine.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Forty years of marriage.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Double what you and I have.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Forty years of marriage; but Bob and I, here on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>\u2014and I\u2019m sorry, Bob, but just picking up this Adorenament, and looking at how beautiful it is, and how decorative the studio looks\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I went back to our first year in the studio, and I walked into the studio\u2014and folks, we started this broadcast in a converted closet.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, we did.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 A converted closet and Bob decorated it.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 For some reason, I was given the task of decorating.\u00a0 We hired a decorator.\u00a0 Do you remember?\u00a0 I worked with her.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Did we pay cash money to that decorator?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 After we were done, I think we did because she should have clearly said, \u201cNo.\u00a0 No, that would not go with this.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I just had a flashback of what that looked like; and ladies and gentlemen, there is no proof.\u00a0 We have no pictures\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014of that studio.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 But Bob, I do have to describe this.\u00a0 He completely carpeted the walls\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014with purple carpet.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 It was kind of purplish with\u2014it was kind of like a test pattern on a television set.\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 It was wavy purple, and it\u2014you could not sit in the room for very long without becoming dizzy, or nauseous, or both.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I wasn\u2019t sure if it was the color or the chemicals from the cheap carpet that you purchased.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, it was\u2014we were on a budget.\u00a0 So, I was working with the remnants the best I could; but I remember you coming in and saying, \u201cNo, no, no.\u00a0 No, we can\u2019t do this.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u201cWe can\u2019t.\u201d\u00a0 So, we pulled all that carpet off.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Became gray carpet.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And I just had a flashback.\u00a0 I\u2019m looking at this beautiful tree that Barbara\u2019s created; and I go, \u201cThere is a difference between male and female.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 There is a reason why I was not put in charge of designing ornaments for Christmas trees.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 There really is.\u00a0 This really is beautiful.\u00a0 What you wanted to do was design something that was timeless\u2014that would be vintage for families.\u00a0 They would carry it forward into the future; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 That\u2019s why they\u2019re made out of metal.\u00a0 That\u2019s why they\u2019re\u2014we\u2019ve used really elegant fonts.\u00a0 There are three or four different font styles to them because we\u2019re talking about the King of kings.\u00a0 We\u2019re talking about the God of the universe.\u00a0 I wanted the names to represent a hint of His grandeur, and His majesty, and His glory.\u00a0 So, we made them really beautiful.\u00a0 They\u2019re lightly glittered, and they\u2019re elegant because the God we worship deserves that kind of attention.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And Prince of Peace, for instance, the whole Adorenament is probably\u2014what would you say, Bob, six inches wide\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014by four.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, four by six.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014by four inches?\u00a0 So, it\u2019ll fit in an envelope if you wanted to do that, although they\u2019re boxed individually.\u00a0 There\u2019s also a box of all seven, where people can get a booklet that you have that actually goes through all the names.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 When you get the box with all seven of the ornaments, there\u2019s a booklet that Barbara has written that says, \u201cA child is born\u2026.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 Each ornament has a devotional that you can read to the family.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, for example, you get the one that says, \u201cPrince of Peace.\u201d\u00a0 You read Isaiah 9:6, \u201cHis name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.\u00a0 Of the increase of His government and of His peace, there will be no end.\u201d\u00a0 Then, you read what Barbara\u2019s written here: \u201cPeace without end is the longing of every human heart; but it can\u2019t be found on earth.\u00a0 No king has ever lived, even the most benevolent, who has ruled with perfect peace.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Now, I want to stop you for a second, Bob.\u00a0 You are reading what a dad would read to his kids, or an uncle, or a grandfather might read to his kids.\u00a0 You\u2019re helping them understand a concept that Jesus is\u2014He is the Prince of Peace.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, for example, let\u2019s say you\u2019ve decorated your tree.\u00a0 You\u2019ve put all seven of the different ornaments on the tree.\u00a0 It\u2019s one of the nights before Christmas.\u00a0 You say to the kids, \u201cGo pick one of those off the tree.\u00a0 Pick your favorite and bring it to me.\u201d\u00a0 They go, and they pull Prince of Peace.\u00a0 You open up the booklet and say, \u201cLet me read to about Prince of Peace.\u201d\u00a0 Then, Dad reads this.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Okay, finish reading it then.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThis name brings the great promise of a life without conflict.\u00a0 Only One who is divine, who is sinless, can rule with perfection; and His name is Jesus.\u00a0 While we wait for His government on earth, we can still experience the peace Jesus offers.\u00a0 John 14 says, \u201cPeace, I leave with you.\u00a0 My peace, I give to you, not as the world gives do I give to you.\u00a0 Let not your heart be troubled neither let them be afraid.\u201d\u00a0 Later, He says, \u201cIn me, you may have peace.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe knew that He was leaving, that His followers would feel abandoned and afraid.\u00a0 So, Jesus promised them the assurance of much needed peace.\u00a0 It\u2019s both remarkable and comforting that Jesus can dwell within our frail humanity by His Spirit.\u00a0 Does He live in your heart?\u00a0 If He does, then, no matter how difficult your circumstances, He can and will give peace that passes all understanding, if you\u2019ll ask.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne of the most loved hymns of the church is <em>It Is Well with My Soul<\/em>, written by Horatio Spafford just months after all four of his daughters had drowned as their ship sank in the Atlantic Ocean.\u00a0 His wife was saved when a plank of wood floated beneath her unconscious body, keeping her from drowning.\u00a0 Unimaginable grief must have overwhelmed Mr. Spafford.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOn the journey to meet his wife, he wrote these words near the place where the ship sank:\u00a0 \u201cWhen peace, like a river, attendth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll, whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say, \u2018It is well with my soul.\u2019\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHow is that possible?\u00a0 Without the Prince of Peace, it\u2019s not.\u00a0 Only in Jesus can we say, \u201cIt is well with my soul.\u201d\u00a0 May you know His peace this Christmas and forever.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019m just picturing that being read by the Christmas tree by a dad.\u00a0 That took less than five minutes.\u00a0 In this busy world\u2014okay, so you do that for seven days in a row or over the days leading up to Christmas\u2014you attempt to knock out all seven of these names and take five minutes and celebrate the names of Christ.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI can tell you from having done this with children, whether young or older children, the person you just read about is alive.\u00a0 This is not a fairy tale.\u00a0 He is alive.\u00a0 He is able to bring peace.\u00a0 Every family who is listening to us right now needs that Prince of Peace in their lives.\u00a0 They need to be reminded that if they submit to Him, if they yield to Him as Prince of their lives, then, they can experience peace.\u00a0 <br><br><strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Barbara, one of your desires in creating these ornaments was that a wife could be a helper to her husband by saying, \u201cHere\u2014here\u2019s an easy way,\u201d\u2014not nagging him to execute but by saying, \u201cWhy don\u2019t you read this to the kids?\u201d and setting him up to win.\u00a0 In fact, you wrote a note about that\u2014that you included with the Adorenaments; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 I did because one of my desires is that we, as women, are the ones who often begin and maintain traditions in the family.\u00a0 I don\u2019t want her to take over.\u00a0 I don\u2019t want her to feel like it\u2019s all her responsibility.\u00a0 Marriage is a teamwork relationship, and it takes both mom and dad to lead a family\u2014to lead children.\u00a0 I\u2019m encouraging the women who buy these ornaments to find ways to include their husbands in leading their children through this.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br>I wrote in the little letter that comes with the booklet, in this set of seven, these words to wives: \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tMay I be so bold to suggest that you, as a wife, find ways to help your husband participate?\u00a0 It is so easy for us, as women, to take over but resist.\u00a0 Ask him to read the stories out loud or create a guessing game for what the names might be.\u00a0 Perhaps, he can help the children hang the ornaments one by one while you read the stories.\u00a0 Then, you take turns.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAs a wife, send prayers heavenward for help so that this part of your tree-trimming becomes a family activity everyone enjoys.\u00a0 The names presented in Adorenaments belong to the Eternal God who is the King of kings.\u00a0 By introducing your family to the names, you can help them begin to learn the many ways that Jesus loves them.\u00a0 Adoring Him will naturally follow.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I couldn\u2019t help but smile because I wondered, Bob, how many times she set me up to look good with our kids.\u00a0 The answer is a number of times.\u00a0 It\u2019s a wise wife who knows how to take something like this, and it\u2019s\u2014it really is this simple.\u00a0 \u201cSweetheart, we\u2019re going to celebrate after dinner tonight.\u00a0 Take this booklet.\u00a0 Read this section about Christ the Lord, Savior, Mighty God, Jesus\u201d\u2014one of the seven names.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAgain, the booklet comes with the seven Adorenaments.\u00a0 It\u2019s a setup for a man to be able to lead his family and, then, just have a little bit of a conversation about that name of Christ\u2014how it relates to your family, and why your family needs Jesus and needs to talk about Him this season.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I love the fact that you used the names from Isaiah, Chapter 9, verse 6 because every time I pass the tree now, I want to sing, <em>The Messiah<\/em>.\u00a0 You know?\u00a0 \u201cAnd His name shall be called\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Only you would want to sing <em>The Messiah<\/em>.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh, no.\u00a0 No, I\u2019m not the only one.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 No, no, no.\u00a0 He\u2019s not the only one!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 There are lots of people who are singing it in their car as they drive along; but I also love the fact that those names in Isaiah 9\u2014one of them Mighty God\u2014you know, there are a lot of pseudo-Christian cults that don\u2019t see the Messiah as God, Himself.\u00a0 They don\u2019t see Jesus.\u00a0 They see Him as less than God, a created being.\u00a0 They see Him as a god but not God Almighty.\u00a0 Isaiah made it clear.\u00a0 The One who would be called Emmanuel would be the Mighty God.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 It is a very significant name.\u00a0 If you think about the fact that Isaiah\u2014God inspired Isaiah to write this\u2014and there were four names in that list.\u00a0 If there are over 300 names of Christ, why did God choose those four for Isaiah to speak about the coming Messiah?\u00a0 But Mighty God is one of them.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tJust think, for a second, about this baby laying in a manger\u2014whatever this manger was\u2014if it was wood, or stone, or on the ground, or whatever on hay\u2014human eyes would just see a baby; but God said of this baby\u2014He was not just God. He was Mighty God.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe Israelites knew what mighty meant.\u00a0 They knew that \u201cMighty God\u201d was the One who parted the Red Sea and who did all these miracles.\u00a0 So, here\u2019s this baby; and He was called Mighty God\u2014not just God, but Mighty God.\u00a0 It\u2019s really significant that we see Him\u2014we see this Christ Child, not just as a baby in a manger, but that we see Him as God\u2014God of the universe and as our Mighty God.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, that was really significant, I think, for the Israelites to understand that He was Savior, and He was Emmanuel, but He was also Mighty God.\u00a0 It reminds me of a hymn that we all know pretty well.\u00a0 It\u2019s the hymn that Martin Luther wrote, <em>A Mighty Fortress Is Our God<\/em>.\u00a0 To tie the two together\u2014to think of this baby, this helpless infant baby\u2014and His name is Mighty God.\u00a0 He\u2019s the same One who is \u201ca mighty fortress is our God\u201d.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s just\u2014it really is\u2014it\u2019s awe-inspiring to me, quite frankly, that these names are so full of meaning.\u00a0 We say them and we kind of go, \u201cOh, yes;\u201d but there is so much meaning because God is trying to say to us, \u201cThis is who I am.\u00a0 I want you to know who I am.\u201d It\u2019s a relationship.\u00a0 We need to know what Mighty God means because that\u2019s our Savior.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 We have a tendency to be hard on the Jews who saw God part the Red Sea and who days later are grumbling in the desert because\u2014\u201cHow are we going to get fed out here?\u00a0 Did you bring us out here to die?\u201d\u00a0 Yet, how many times do we see the power of God in our lives; and yet, we lose faith in the next calamity that comes along.\u00a0 We think, \u201cWell, I know God delivered me last time; but can He really do it this time?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, and the thing that Psalm 106 points out is that when we forget what God has done, we forget who He is.\u00a0 We forget what He\u2019s like and His authority.\u00a0 Then, we fail to trust Him.\u00a0 We move into disobedience.\u00a0 Then, it was said of the nation of Israel, \u201cThey grumbled in their tents.\u201d\u00a0 They griped about the Christian life.\u00a0 They griped and complained about the state that God had them in.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You\u2019ve grumbled in your tent before; haven\u2019t you?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I have grumbled in my tent.\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 It reminds me\u2014just talking about Mighty God reminds me of the great quote by A.W. Tozer.\u00a0 I\u2019ve just found myself using it increasingly, recently.\u00a0 He said, \u201cThe most important thing about you is what you think about God.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Now, why is that?\u00a0 Because how you think about God will determine how you think about yourself.\u00a0 If you think rightly about God and who He is\u2014that \u201cHe is Mighty God and that I am not.\u00a0 I\u2019m not mighty.\u00a0 I don\u2019t have much power.\u00a0 I may think I do on some days, but there is only One who can be called Mighty God.\u201d\u00a0 As we think about Him rightly, we begin to think about ourselves correctly.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, we begin to realize who we are.\u00a0 We can lead our families, at that point, to say, \u201cOur family is made in the image of God.\u201d\u00a0 We can only find our identity as we allow Jesus Christ to come into our lives, forgive us our sins, and we begin to surrender to Him day in and day out, and walk with Him, and allow Him to be our Mighty God, Christ the Lord, the Prince of Peace who rules in our hearts.\u00a0 Emmanuel\u2014He\u2019s there.\u00a0 He\u2019s incarnate, inside us, living His life through us.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 If Tozer is right\u2014and I think he is\u2014the most important thing we think is what we think about God.\u00a0 Then, to have the names of Jesus on your Christmas tree, or hanging on presents, or decorating your home is going to help you be thinking rightly, not just during the Christmas season, but all year-long as you reflect on, \u201cThis is my God.\u00a0 This is the God who is\u2014He is the Prince of Peace, the Mighty God, the Wonderful Counselor, the Savior, the Lord.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Now, that you\u2019ve had a chance to preach after I did, [Laughter]\u00a0 I have to call attention to something, Bob, because you probably noticed this.\u00a0 Barbara mentioned it.\u00a0 She talked about God lying in a manger on a bed of straw.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThese names, as Barbara has presented them\u2014both the set of seven and each individual name\u2014you can see it there\u2014each of these Adorenaments is lying on a bed of straw.\u00a0 It\u2019s symbolic of how Jesus made His entrance onto planet earth.\u00a0 It\u2019s a great reminder for every family, every Christmas, to celebrate Him.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 If listeners, from others, from friends of yours, about ways they are seeking to make Christmas more centered on Christ?\u00a0 Barbara Rainey says, \u201cOften, those ideas sound great but never get implemented.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 Moms are the ones who hear about these traditions and these ideas.\u00a0 They go, \u201cI want to do that.\u201d\u00a0 Yet, we\u2019re also the ones that are baking the cookies, and we\u2019re getting the teacher gifts, and we\u2019re putting up the tree.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I just want to encourage moms that as you try to engage with your kids, you\u2019re going to get some eye rolls.\u00a0 You\u2019re going to get some kids who poke their sibling and make somebody cry.\u00a0 It\u2019s not going to be perfect, but it\u2019s worth taking the time to teach your children about the names of Christ.\u00a0 If you do it year after year, it\u2019s going to stick; and \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>You know, Bob, I\u2019m looking at the Christmas tree that is in the studio\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 We\u2019ve not often had a Christmas tree in the studio.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 We have not, Bob.\u00a0 Reason is\u2014is because it\u2019s been two men in the studio.\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 We don\u2019t mess with decorations unless we have to\u2014unless there is a wife who says, \u201cWould you help with the decorations?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 There is a reason why a bachelor\u2019s pad looks like one.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, that\u2019s right.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And this studio has all of a sudden become glittery and shiny.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Not just the tree, but there are gifts and there are framed works of art in here.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, the frames, interestingly, were created by Barbara.\u00a0 She has framed great, old hymns from a very old hymnal.\u00a0 She\u2019s hung something over the front of each of these frames to display the names of Christ.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI want to welcome Barbara back because wherever she goes she makes things beautiful.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right, including this studio.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s exactly right.\u00a0 Why don\u2019t you explain to our listeners what you had in mind when you brought the Christmas tree in and also the packages and the frames with the names of Christ on them?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, I wanted to create a little atmosphere for you, gentleman, for starters\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014because I felt like it might kind of help us talk about these names; but I want to say really quickly to what the frames are.\u00a0 I think you\u2019ll be able to find pictures online because I think we have them online.\u00a0 I can\u2019t remember exactly what all is there.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut one of the things that I thought would be helpful to us, as women, would be to think of other ways that we could use these ornaments\u2014and we\u2019re talking about this new set of Adorenaments<em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup><\/em> that we\u2019ve produced with the seven Christmas names of Christ for this year for Christmas.\u00a0 I started thinking about them and thinking, \u201cOkay, how can we make these live past Christmas?\u201d because they are not red and green; and they don\u2019t look like Christmas.\u00a0 So, you\u2019re not going to feel like you have Christmas decorations up in March or May.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 I found some old frames, that didn\u2019t have anything in them\u2014that I wanted to keep\u2014and I had this old hymn book.\u00a0 It was falling apart.\u00a0 I took some of the pages out of the hymn book and glued them on cardboard in the back.\u00a0 Then, I put these names of Christ over the hymns that are about Him and put them in the frames.\u00a0 They turned out quite nicely, I think.\u00a0 So, we will keep ours up all year\u2014just letting you know ahead of time.\u00a0 We will have the names of Jesus framed.\u00a0 We will have them in our house after Christmas is gone.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Tell me.\u00a0 I\u2019m not surprised.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019m sure you\u2019re not.\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 But don\u2019t you think it is a great idea?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think they are beautiful.\u00a0 I saw them.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 They look pretty cool; don\u2019t they?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think they look really good.\u00a0 They also look good on the packages\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014because you\u2019ve used them kind of along with a bow to decorate packages that are here.\u00a0 Do any of the packages have\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014anything in them?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014my name?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019m sorry.\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Empty boxes, my friend\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014but they really do look beautiful.\u00a0 They really do look nice the way that you\u2019ve taken\u2014and again, I don\u2019t know that our listeners can understand without going to FamilyLifeToday.com and seeing what we\u2019re talking about.\u00a0 You\u2019ve taken names of Jesus from\u2014and they\u2019re stamped metal, and they\u2019re about\u2014what?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 Four by six.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Four or five inches?\u00a0 Four by six\u2014they\u2019re designed to hang on a Christmas tree; or as you\u2019ve done, they are on a package as a decoration or, as you explained, in the frames\u2014seven names of Jesus, three from the Gospel account in Luke, Chapter 2; four from Isaiah, Chapter 9, where we talk about who Jesus is\u2014who is the One that God brought into the world\u2014like the one you just pulled off the tree\u2014Prince of Peace; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 I\u2019m sorry, but I had a flashback.\u00a0 Our listeners know because we\u2019ve talked about this on previous broadcasts.\u00a0 Bob and I have just celebrated an anniversary.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 You did.\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 We did.\u00a0 Now, Barbara and I celebrated one earlier.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, longer than yours and mine.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Forty years of marriage.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Double what you and I have.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Forty years of marriage; but Bob and I, here on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>\u2014and I\u2019m sorry, Bob, but just picking up this Adorenament, and looking at how beautiful it is, and how decorative the studio looks\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I went back to our first year in the studio, and I walked into the studio\u2014and folks, we started this broadcast in a converted closet.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, we did.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 A converted closet and Bob decorated it.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 For some reason, I was given the task of decorating.\u00a0 We hired a decorator.\u00a0 Do you remember?\u00a0 I worked with her.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Did we pay cash money to that decorator?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 After we were done, I think we did because she should have clearly said, \u201cNo.\u00a0 No, that would not go with this.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I just had a flashback of what that looked like; and ladies and gentlemen, there is no proof.\u00a0 We have no pictures\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014of that studio.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 But Bob, I do have to describe this.\u00a0 He completely carpeted the walls\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014with purple carpet.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 It was kind of purplish with\u2014it was kind of like a test pattern on a television set.\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 It was wavy purple, and it\u2014you could not sit in the room for very long without becoming dizzy, or nauseous, or both.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I wasn\u2019t sure if it was the color or the chemicals from the cheap carpet that you purchased.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, it was\u2014we were on a budget.\u00a0 So, I was working with the remnants the best I could; but I remember you coming in and saying, \u201cNo, no, no.\u00a0 No, we can\u2019t do this.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u201cWe can\u2019t.\u201d\u00a0 So, we pulled all that carpet off.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Became gray carpet.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And I just had a flashback.\u00a0 I\u2019m looking at this beautiful tree that Barbara\u2019s created; and I go, \u201cThere is a difference between male and female.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 There is a reason why I was not put in charge of designing ornaments for Christmas trees.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 There really is.\u00a0 This really is beautiful.\u00a0 What you wanted to do was design something that was timeless\u2014that would be vintage for families.\u00a0 They would carry it forward into the future; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 That\u2019s why they\u2019re made out of metal.\u00a0 That\u2019s why they\u2019re\u2014we\u2019ve used really elegant fonts.\u00a0 There are three or four different font styles to them because we\u2019re talking about the King of kings.\u00a0 We\u2019re talking about the God of the universe.\u00a0 I wanted the names to represent a hint of His grandeur, and His majesty, and His glory.\u00a0 So, we made them really beautiful.\u00a0 They\u2019re lightly glittered, and they\u2019re elegant because the God we worship deserves that kind of attention.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And Prince of Peace, for instance, the whole Adorenament is probably\u2014what would you say, Bob, six inches wide\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014by four.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, four by six.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014by four inches?\u00a0 So, it\u2019ll fit in an envelope if you wanted to do that, although they\u2019re boxed individually.\u00a0 There\u2019s also a box of all seven, where people can get a booklet that you have that actually goes through all the names.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 When you get the box with all seven of the ornaments, there\u2019s a booklet that Barbara has written that says, \u201cA child is born\u2026.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 Each ornament has a devotional that you can read to the family.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, for example, you get the one that says, \u201cPrince of Peace.\u201d\u00a0 You read Isaiah 9:6, \u201cHis name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.\u00a0 Of the increase of His government and of His peace, there will be no end.\u201d\u00a0 Then, you read what Barbara\u2019s written here: \u201cPeace without end is the longing of every human heart; but it can\u2019t be found on earth.\u00a0 No king has ever lived, even the most benevolent, who has ruled with perfect peace.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Now, I want to stop you for a second, Bob.\u00a0 You are reading what a dad would read to his kids, or an uncle, or a grandfather might read to his kids.\u00a0 You\u2019re helping them understand a concept that Jesus is\u2014He is the Prince of Peace.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, for example, let\u2019s say you\u2019ve decorated your tree.\u00a0 You\u2019ve put all seven of the different ornaments on the tree.\u00a0 It\u2019s one of the nights before Christmas.\u00a0 You say to the kids, \u201cGo pick one of those off the tree.\u00a0 Pick your favorite and bring it to me.\u201d\u00a0 They go, and they pull Prince of Peace.\u00a0 You open up the booklet and say, \u201cLet me read to about Prince of Peace.\u201d\u00a0 Then, Dad reads this.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Okay, finish reading it then.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThis name brings the great promise of a life without conflict.\u00a0 Only One who is divine, who is sinless, can rule with perfection; and His name is Jesus.\u00a0 While we wait for His government on earth, we can still experience the peace Jesus offers.\u00a0 John 14 says, \u201cPeace, I leave with you.\u00a0 My peace, I give to you, not as the world gives do I give to you.\u00a0 Let not your heart be troubled neither let them be afraid.\u201d\u00a0 Later, He says, \u201cIn me, you may have peace.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe knew that He was leaving, that His followers would feel abandoned and afraid.\u00a0 So, Jesus promised them the assurance of much needed peace.\u00a0 It\u2019s both remarkable and comforting that Jesus can dwell within our frail humanity by His Spirit.\u00a0 Does He live in your heart?\u00a0 If He does, then, no matter how difficult your circumstances, He can and will give peace that passes all understanding, if you\u2019ll ask.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne of the most loved hymns of the church is <em>It Is Well with My Soul<\/em>, written by Horatio Spafford just months after all four of his daughters had drowned as their ship sank in the Atlantic Ocean.\u00a0 His wife was saved when a plank of wood floated beneath her unconscious body, keeping her from drowning.\u00a0 Unimaginable grief must have overwhelmed Mr. Spafford.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOn the journey to meet his wife, he wrote these words near the place where the ship sank:\u00a0 \u201cWhen peace, like a river, attendth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll, whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say, \u2018It is well with my soul.\u2019\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHow is that possible?\u00a0 Without the Prince of Peace, it\u2019s not.\u00a0 Only in Jesus can we say, \u201cIt is well with my soul.\u201d\u00a0 May you know His peace this Christmas and forever.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019m just picturing that being read by the Christmas tree by a dad.\u00a0 That took less than five minutes.\u00a0 In this busy world\u2014okay, so you do that for seven days in a row or over the days leading up to Christmas\u2014you attempt to knock out all seven of these names and take five minutes and celebrate the names of Christ.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI can tell you from having done this with children, whether young or older children, the person you just read about is alive.\u00a0 This is not a fairy tale.\u00a0 He is alive.\u00a0 He is able to bring peace.\u00a0 Every family who is listening to us right now needs that Prince of Peace in their lives.\u00a0 They need to be reminded that if they submit to Him, if they yield to Him as Prince of their lives, then, they can experience peace.\u00a0 <br><br><strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Barbara, one of your desires in creating these ornaments was that a wife could be a helper to her husband by saying, \u201cHere\u2014here\u2019s an easy way,\u201d\u2014not nagging him to execute but by saying, \u201cWhy don\u2019t you read this to the kids?\u201d and setting him up to win.\u00a0 In fact, you wrote a note about that\u2014that you included with the Adorenaments; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 I did because one of my desires is that we, as women, are the ones who often begin and maintain traditions in the family.\u00a0 I don\u2019t want her to take over.\u00a0 I don\u2019t want her to feel like it\u2019s all her responsibility.\u00a0 Marriage is a teamwork relationship, and it takes both mom and dad to lead a family\u2014to lead children.\u00a0 I\u2019m encouraging the women who buy these ornaments to find ways to include their husbands in leading their children through this.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br>I wrote in the little letter that comes with the booklet, in this set of seven, these words to wives: \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tMay I be so bold to suggest that you, as a wife, find ways to help your husband participate?\u00a0 It is so easy for us, as women, to take over but resist.\u00a0 Ask him to read the stories out loud or create a guessing game for what the names might be.\u00a0 Perhaps, he can help the children hang the ornaments one by one while you read the stories.\u00a0 Then, you take turns.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAs a wife, send prayers heavenward for help so that this part of your tree-trimming becomes a family activity everyone enjoys.\u00a0 The names presented in Adorenaments belong to the Eternal God who is the King of kings.\u00a0 By introducing your family to the names, you can help them begin to learn the many ways that Jesus loves them.\u00a0 Adoring Him will naturally follow.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I couldn\u2019t help but smile because I wondered, Bob, how many times she set me up to look good with our kids.\u00a0 The answer is a number of times.\u00a0 It\u2019s a wise wife who knows how to take something like this, and it\u2019s\u2014it really is this simple.\u00a0 \u201cSweetheart, we\u2019re going to celebrate after dinner tonight.\u00a0 Take this booklet.\u00a0 Read this section about Christ the Lord, Savior, Mighty God, Jesus\u201d\u2014one of the seven names.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAgain, the booklet comes with the seven Adorenaments.\u00a0 It\u2019s a setup for a man to be able to lead his family and, then, just have a little bit of a conversation about that name of Christ\u2014how it relates to your family, and why your family needs Jesus and needs to talk about Him this season.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I love the fact that you used the names from Isaiah, Chapter 9, verse 6 because every time I pass the tree now, I want to sing, <em>The Messiah<\/em>.\u00a0 You know?\u00a0 \u201cAnd His name shall be called\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Only you would want to sing <em>The Messiah<\/em>.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh, no.\u00a0 No, I\u2019m not the only one.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 No, no, no.\u00a0 He\u2019s not the only one!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 There are lots of people who are singing it in their car as they drive along; but I also love the fact that those names in Isaiah 9\u2014one of them Mighty God\u2014you know, there are a lot of pseudo-Christian cults that don\u2019t see the Messiah as God, Himself.\u00a0 They don\u2019t see Jesus.\u00a0 They see Him as less than God, a created being.\u00a0 They see Him as a god but not God Almighty.\u00a0 Isaiah made it clear.\u00a0 The One who would be called Emmanuel would be the Mighty God.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 It is a very significant name.\u00a0 If you think about the fact that Isaiah\u2014God inspired Isaiah to write this\u2014and there were four names in that list.\u00a0 If there are over 300 names of Christ, why did God choose those four for Isaiah to speak about the coming Messiah?\u00a0 But Mighty God is one of them.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tJust think, for a second, about this baby laying in a manger\u2014whatever this manger was\u2014if it was wood, or stone, or on the ground, or whatever on hay\u2014human eyes would just see a baby; but God said of this baby\u2014He was not just God. He was Mighty God.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe Israelites knew what mighty meant.\u00a0 They knew that \u201cMighty God\u201d was the One who parted the Red Sea and who did all these miracles.\u00a0 So, here\u2019s this baby; and He was called Mighty God\u2014not just God, but Mighty God.\u00a0 It\u2019s really significant that we see Him\u2014we see this Christ Child, not just as a baby in a manger, but that we see Him as God\u2014God of the universe and as our Mighty God.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, that was really significant, I think, for the Israelites to understand that He was Savior, and He was Emmanuel, but He was also Mighty God.\u00a0 It reminds me of a hymn that we all know pretty well.\u00a0 It\u2019s the hymn that Martin Luther wrote, <em>A Mighty Fortress Is Our God<\/em>.\u00a0 To tie the two together\u2014to think of this baby, this helpless infant baby\u2014and His name is Mighty God.\u00a0 He\u2019s the same One who is \u201ca mighty fortress is our God\u201d.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s just\u2014it really is\u2014it\u2019s awe-inspiring to me, quite frankly, that these names are so full of meaning.\u00a0 We say them and we kind of go, \u201cOh, yes;\u201d but there is so much meaning because God is trying to say to us, \u201cThis is who I am.\u00a0 I want you to know who I am.\u201d It\u2019s a relationship.\u00a0 We need to know what Mighty God means because that\u2019s our Savior.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 We have a tendency to be hard on the Jews who saw God part the Red Sea and who days later are grumbling in the desert because\u2014\u201cHow are we going to get fed out here?\u00a0 Did you bring us out here to die?\u201d\u00a0 Yet, how many times do we see the power of God in our lives; and yet, we lose faith in the next calamity that comes along.\u00a0 We think, \u201cWell, I know God delivered me last time; but can He really do it this time?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, and the thing that Psalm 106 points out is that when we forget what God has done, we forget who He is.\u00a0 We forget what He\u2019s like and His authority.\u00a0 Then, we fail to trust Him.\u00a0 We move into disobedience.\u00a0 Then, it was said of the nation of Israel, \u201cThey grumbled in their tents.\u201d\u00a0 They griped about the Christian life.\u00a0 They griped and complained about the state that God had them in.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You\u2019ve grumbled in your tent before; haven\u2019t you?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I have grumbled in my tent.\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 It reminds me\u2014just talking about Mighty God reminds me of the great quote by A.W. Tozer.\u00a0 I\u2019ve just found myself using it increasingly, recently.\u00a0 He said, \u201cThe most important thing about you is what you think about God.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Now, why is that?\u00a0 Because how you think about God will determine how you think about yourself.\u00a0 If you think rightly about God and who He is\u2014that \u201cHe is Mighty God and that I am not.\u00a0 I\u2019m not mighty.\u00a0 I don\u2019t have much power.\u00a0 I may think I do on some days, but there is only One who can be called Mighty God.\u201d\u00a0 As we think about Him rightly, we begin to think about ourselves correctly.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, we begin to realize who we are.\u00a0 We can lead our families, at that point, to say, \u201cOur family is made in the image of God.\u201d\u00a0 We can only find our identity as we allow Jesus Christ to come into our lives, forgive us our sins, and we begin to surrender to Him day in and day out, and walk with Him, and allow Him to be our Mighty God, Christ the Lord, the Prince of Peace who rules in our hearts.\u00a0 Emmanuel\u2014He\u2019s there.\u00a0 He\u2019s incarnate, inside us, living His life through us.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 If Tozer is right\u2014and I think he is\u2014the most important thing we think is what we think about God.\u00a0 Then, to have the names of Jesus on your Christmas tree, or hanging on presents, or decorating your home is going to help you be thinking rightly, not just during the Christmas season, but all year-long as you reflect on, \u201cThis is my God.\u00a0 This is the God who is\u2014He is the Prince of Peace, the Mighty God, the Wonderful Counselor, the Savior, the Lord.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Now, that you\u2019ve had a chance to preach after I did, [Laughter]\u00a0 I have to call attention to something, Bob, because you probably noticed this.\u00a0 Barbara mentioned it.\u00a0 She talked about God lying in a manger on a bed of straw.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThese names, as Barbara has presented them\u2014both the set of seven and each individual name\u2014you can see it there\u2014each of these Adorenaments is lying on a bed of straw.\u00a0 It\u2019s symbolic of how Jesus made His entrance onto planet earth.\u00a0 It\u2019s a great reminder for every family, every Christmas, to celebrate Him.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 If listeners, again, will go to our website, FamilyLifeToday.com, they can get a firsthand look at these ornaments that Barbara has created, seven of them.\u00a0 As you said, you can order all seven;
