but there were other titles that the Bible gives to the One who is the Savior of the world.\u00a0 We\u2019ll talk about those today.\u00a0 Stay tuned.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd welcome to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>.\u00a0 Thanks for joining us on the Thursday edition.\u00a0 I guess after the e-mails, and website visits, and Facebook<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> posts we got last week, you thought, \u201cWe ought to have Barbara back on the radio again to talk about what she\u2019s been doing.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>I think she has hit a nerve.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 There was a little bit of activity here last week!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think she hit a nerve because\u2014well, I knew it, Bob.\u00a0 I think you were there when she was speaking to a small group of folks\u2014I think 30 or 40 folks.\u00a0 She was sharing about this new project that she was creating for families, where she was actually creating a tool to help them celebrate Christmas and put the real meaning into Christmas.\u00a0 As she was sharing, the group broke into applause.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, anytime you speak and the group breaks into applause\u2014but especially a small group\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014because it\u2019s not conducive to having an ovation of sorts; but it so resonated with them that they started to applaud.\u00a0 I think what they were ultimately expressing was, \u201cGive us something to return the real meaning of Christmas to our family so we can do it every year, year after year.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Barbara, welcome back to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 Thank you.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 The resource that you\u2019ve created for Christmas is a series of Christmas ornaments.\u00a0 Each one of them\u2014they\u2019re seven of them\u2014each one of them with a different name for Jesus.\u00a0 You refer to them as His Christmas names.\u00a0 <br><br>My wife was in a meeting this weekend where you were speaking to a group of women about this.\u00a0 I said, \u201cHow was Barbara\u2019s presentation?\u201d\u00a0 She said the women were nodding.\u00a0 I mean, where you\u2019ve talked to folks and shown them what you\u2019re doing, people get excited about this.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, they do because I think there\u2019s a general longing in the hearts of believers and non-believers alike to return Christmas to something that\u2019s meaningful.\u00a0 We\u2019re all tired of the commercialism.\u00a0 We\u2019re all tired of the excess.\u00a0 We\u2019re tired of all the trappings that we know are not what it\u2019s really all about.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think, when I\u2019ve been speaking about this recently and I talk about my dream of Christian homes with Christmas trees in them and the trees are covered in the names of Christ and other symbols of the holiday, people go, \u201cYes, that\u2019s what I want.\u00a0 That\u2019s what I\u2019ve been looking for, and I can\u2019t find it anywhere.\u201d\u00a0 It\u2019s exciting to have these finally available for families to be able to put on their Christmas trees and proclaim their faith.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 This year, she has, as you said, Bob, the Christmas names of Christ.\u00a0 In case you are wondering where those came from, they\u2019re from the book of Luke\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 Luke, Chapter 2.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014and Isaiah.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 And Isaiah.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 The names are Jesus, Christ the Lord, Emmanuel, Mighty God, Savior, Wonderful Counselor, Prince of Peace.\u00a0 When she says, Bob, she envisions a Christmas tree, at some point in the future, covered with names of Christ\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, they ought to come see your tree because that\u2019s what it looks like this year.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, it does.\u00a0 It does look like that this year; but she\u2019s done some study here, and these are not the only names of Christ.\u00a0 How many names have you found in Scripture?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, some scholars estimate that there are as many as 300.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know what all 300 are, but I know what about 30 or 40 are.\u00a0 We\u2019ve grouped them into different categories.\u00a0 So, this year, we have created His Christmas names.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNext year, we\u2019re going to create His royal names which include King of kings, Lord of lords, and Prince.\u00a0 Then, there are four others that are kingly, princely kinds of names.\u00a0 So, we have that group.\u00a0 We have the Messianic names of Christ.\u00a0 We have His eternal names, and there are others.\u00a0 Literally, five or six years from now, Christmas trees really could be covered with a lot of the names of Christ.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 The cool thing about this\u2014and I think most of us kind of walk by the names of Christ, not realizing that each name carries significance.\u00a0 Remember John, Chapter 1, it says, \u201cAnd we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten Son.\u201d\u00a0 He explains God to us by becoming flesh and dwelling among us.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, and the name Jesus, which we think of as His given name\u2014it was His given name.\u00a0 The angel told Mary, \u201cYou shall call His name Jesus;\u201d but that\u2019s just not a name that they picked out of a baby name book.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right!\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s a name that has a meaning to it.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\u00a0 It does.\u00a0 If you buy this set of seven names, included in that set of seven is a little booklet; and in the booklet, I wrote a little piece about the importance of knowing the names of Christ.\u00a0 <br><br>I\u2019m just going to read you a little portion of it:\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIn the beginning, God created and He named.\u00a0 He called the darkness, \u201cnight\u201d, and the light, \u201cday\u201d.\u00a0 He called the dry land, \u201cearth\u201d, and the sky above, \u201cheaven\u201d.\u00a0 He created the sun, the moon, and the stars, giving each one its name.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLittle children learn at a very young age that that warm yellow ball in the sky is called the sun.\u00a0 That is its name.\u00a0 As they grow older, they learn more about its properties\u2014its size, and its effect on the earth, on the oceans, and on their own bodies.\u00a0 Their knowledge of what the name sun means develops and expands as they grow.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tJesus is a man of many names\u2014300, according to some scholars\u2014which tells us right away that He is not like us.\u00a0 In learning the names of Christ, our understanding grows.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe celebration of Christ\u2019s birth has gotten lost in a swirl of fairy tales and merchandising.\u00a0 Think about it, the stunning miracle of God becoming human has become trivialized with toys, and tinsel, and trips to the mall.\u00a0 What\u2019s the solution?\u00a0 The Bible tells us, \u201c...looking unto Jesus,\u201d in Hebrews 12:2\u2014learn His names.\u00a0 In so doing, you will know more of Him.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSeeing Jesus stirs a response of adoration and worship; and the things of earth become less important.\u00a0 Our misplaced affections are righted.\u00a0 May His names adorn your home at Christmas and beyond as you give prominence to the Savior of the world, Jesus Christ.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I hope as families have these ornaments and as they read about why knowing His names are important, it will help them worship.\u00a0 I mean, we sing the song, \u201cO, Come Let Us Adore Him,\u201d which is where we came up with the name, Adorenaments<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>.\u00a0 These are ornaments that help us adore Christ.\u00a0 So, as families talk about the meaning of each of these names, it will help us worship Him, which is what Christmas needs to be about.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 The first ornament on the top of the box of seven\u2014if folks get the entire set, the first one is the name Jesus\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014which is the name by which He is most commonly known.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And yet, that\u2019s a name that has meaning attached to it.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 It does have meaning.\u00a0 Most of us don\u2019t know what it means, but Jesus is actually a derivative of the name Joshua.\u00a0 Many children know about the story of Joshua.\u00a0 Jesus means the strong one, the one who rescues His people.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen the angel announced to Mary and to Joseph and said, \u201cYou will have a baby, and you will name Him Jesus,\u201d he was foretelling what Jesus would do for us\u2014that Jesus would be our deliverer and our rescuer.\u00a0 More than likely, Mary and Joseph understood that meaning because they knew who Joshua was.\u00a0 They knew their history and what Joshua had done.\u00a0 So, they knew that this baby they were going to have was going to be the deliverer.\u00a0 That\u2019s what the name Jesus means.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 The angel said, \u201cYou will call Him Jesus because\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 Correct.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014\u201cHe will save His people from their sins.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, in the same way that Joshua led the nation into battle against their enemies and delivered the nation into the Promised Land, Jesus delivers us from our sins into the Promised Land.\u00a0 When we think of the name Jesus, rather than just thinking of it as a common name, we should think of it as a title\u2014a Messianic announcement that this is the One who is your deliverer.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And the promise of deliverance from sin because that\u2019s the longing of our hearts\u2014is that we can have someone who died for what we didn\u2019t do right\u2014for all the mistakes and failures we\u2019ve made and how we disobeyed God.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 In that same announcement that you just referred to, Bob, when the angel spoke, he also said in Luke, Chapter 2, \u201cFor unto you is born this day in the City of David a Savior who is Christ the Lord.\u201d\u00a0 Jesus was not only given the name Jesus, but it was also said of Him that He would be Savior\u2014which is another name\u2014and that he would also be Christ the Lord.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, He was more than just the Deliver and the Rescuer; He was the Savior.\u00a0 He was the long-anticipated Messiah that the Jewish people had been looking for, for hundreds of years.\u00a0 The word, Savior, means Messiah.\u00a0 When they said that\u2014that also had meaning about who this boy\u2014who was going to be born would be\u2014who He would become as a man.\u00a0 He was going to be the Rescuer and the Deliver but also the Messiah.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You took those other names, Savior and Christ the Lord, and made ornaments for those names as well.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s correct.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, Jesus, Savior, Christ the Lord, those three came out of Luke, Chapter 2; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s correct.\u00a0 That\u2019s correct.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think what\u2019s important for a mom or a dad, grandma, grandpa, to understand at this point, is that these Adorenaments have been created, really, to help them fulfill Deuteronomy, Chapter 6.\u00a0 This\u2014I wouldn\u2019t say this is your life verse, but it certainly is one of the most important in your life because it\u2019s not only our responsibility but it\u2019s our duty with the next generation.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, it\u2019s a verse that applies to everyone, whether you are a parent, or a grandparent, or even if you\u2019re not a parent and you don\u2019t have children.\u00a0 The Great Commission commands us to go into all the world and teach and make disciples.\u00a0 The whole idea of teaching truth to others is inherent in our responsibility, as believers, no matter what your family status is.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAs parents, though, we do have a special responsibility to teach our children.\u00a0 That\u2019s talked about in Deuteronomy.\u00a0 Moses commanded the children.\u00a0 He said, \u201cThese commandments that I\u2019m giving you today, they shall be on your heart.\u201d\u00a0 First of all, we have to embrace them individually.\u00a0 Then, he said, \u201cTeach them to your children.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne of the things that I hope will be accomplished by these Adorenaments\u2014these names of Christ for decorating your Christmas tree\u2014is that it will give moms and dads, aunts and uncles, and grandmas and grandpas, for that matter\u2014it will give us an opportunity and a way\u2014an easy way\u2014to teach our children the truth of who Jesus really is and return to Christmas the central reason for why we celebrate the birth of Christ.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Barbara, you wrote a letter to moms and dads that\u2014the booklet that\u2019s got the devotionals for each of these names.\u00a0 It\u2019s in a sleeve that\u2019s got this letter on the outside of it.\u00a0 Just share what was in that letter.\u00a0 What was on your heart as you wrote this to moms and dads?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, I wanted moms and dads\u2014moms, in particular, because moms are the ones who hear about these traditions and these ideas.\u00a0 They go, \u201cI want to do that.\u201d\u00a0 So, moms are the ones who often carry the desire; and they carry a lot of the weight of executing these things in the home.\u00a0 Yet, we\u2019re also the ones who are baking the cookies, and we\u2019re getting the teachers\u2019 gifts, and we\u2019re helping the kids think of what they can get their siblings, and we\u2019re putting up the tree.\u00a0 Moms are busy, and they\u2019re harried, and they are worn out.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I wanted to write a letter to moms when they got this that says, \u201cDo your best, and it is okay if you don\u2019t get it done.\u201d\u00a0 This is what I wrote to those who get the set of seven.\u00a0 This comes with a little booklet:\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAs Christmas arrives at the end of the calendar year, it is as if the previous 11 months have been leading to this grand, culminating event.\u00a0 Now, it is December and tree trimming has begun.\u00a0 This box of seven ornaments called Adorenaments has been designed to help you teach your family the richness of the treasure we were given when Christ was born in Bethlehem.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut like most women, we put a lot of pressure on ourselves to make meaningful family memories at Christmas because we know that traditions are important.\u00a0 We want our kids to stay connected to home in healthy ways, but creating a Hallmark<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> moment is not our job.\u00a0 It is God who makes the moments meaningful. None of us needs another obligation in this exceptionally busy season.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, as you begin to read the short stories in this little volume and then get interrupted or never finish, don\u2019t worry.\u00a0 Reading even one or two is better than none.\u00a0 Focus on what you accomplish and not what is left undone.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI just want to encourage moms and dads that, as you try to engage with your kids, you\u2019re going to get some eye rolls.\u00a0 You\u2019re going to get some kids that poke their sibling and make somebody cry.\u00a0 It\u2019s not going to be beautiful.\u00a0 It\u2019s not going to be perfect, but it\u2019s worth the investment.\u00a0 It\u2019s worth taking the time to teach your children about the names of Christ.\u00a0 If you do it year after year, it\u2019s going to stick; and they are going to remember it.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 What you\u2019re really talking about is adding a tradition to your Christmas that brings out the real meaning of Christmas.\u00a0 I went on my Facebook page and I asked some of those who are friends of mine there if they would just share what some of their favorite traditions were.\u00a0 It was interesting.\u00a0 Some of them\u2014it was as simple as going to grandma\u2019s house.\u00a0 \u201cWe went to our grandparents\u2019 house.\u00a0 It was the trip there that was my favorite memory of anticipating Christmas at the grandparents\u2019 house.\u201d\u00a0 Others talked about a gift that was opened on Christmas Eve.\u00a0 Still others talked about the reading of the Christmas story.\u00a0 The dad would pull out a Bible, and every Christmas Eve would read the story.\u00a0 The kids would sit around, drinking hot chocolate, or hot tea, and eat some cookies, and talk about the reason for the season.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br>We attempted some of this as a family.\u00a0 I\u2019ll be honest with you\u2014I always felt like it was just a little short\u2014just didn\u2019t quite get there.\u00a0 What I really like about what Barbara\u2019s done is you can make it as simple as just reading about one of these names, or you can take all seven and begin to unpack them and talk about their meaning and their application to your individual lives\u2014maybe have each of your children pick a favorite, like I\u2019m about to do with you, Bob.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br>Out of these names\u2014and I know you hate these kinds of questions\u2014this is recorded over our 20 years of radio; but it\u2019s only seven you\u2019ve got to review here, Bob.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, I know.\u00a0 Okay, so only seven\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, what\u2019s your favorite?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Gee, I\u2014which of the six names am I going to make less important than the other?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014the other one.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014than the other one.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, really.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Come on.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Huh?\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 We\u2019re talking about the names of Jesus.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Do you have a favorite, though; really?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019ve always liked the name, Emmanuel, God with us.\u00a0 I like it because I reflect on John, Chapter 1, verse 14, where it says, \u201cThe Word became flesh,\u201d and pitched His tent\u2014the literal idea of John 1:14 is that He pitched His tent among our tents.\u00a0 I\u2019ve always thought, \u201cWell, how would life be different if Jesus pitched His tent in your living room?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh, yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 How would things around the house be different if Jesus had a tent in the backyard; and He was coming in every day and saying, \u201cWhat are we doing today?\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014and, \u201cWhat are you watching there on TV?\u201d\u2014and all those kinds of things.\u00a0 It really is the idea that God has come near\u2014that He has come to dwell among us\u2014the idea of the incarnation.\u00a0 Emmanuel means God with us.\u00a0 Remember, Jesus said before He left that He didn\u2019t just come to be with us and then to leave; but when He left, He said, \u201cI will be with you until the end of the age.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 So, the idea of God with us is not just that He came at Christmas, and He left at Easter, and now we\u2019re on our own\u2014<br><br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, that\u2019s\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014but He is still Emmanuel today.\u00a0 He is still God with us.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 That is really good.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 Exactly.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 What about you, Barbara?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 Wow!\u00a0 I didn\u2019t know you were going to ask me.\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 I guess I would have to say, \u201cSavior\u201d because as I\u2019ve now been a believer in Christ for, I guess, 40 years\u2014I don\u2019t know, maybe not quite\u2014I don\u2019t know how long.\u00a0 Over 40 years, actually, because it was before we got married.\u00a0 The older I get, the more I appreciate what Jesus did and the fact that He would willingly come and do no wrong and yet suffer for my sin and the sin of everyone else is pretty overwhelming.\u00a0 So, I do love the name, Savior.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I do too.\u00a0 Since you selected that one, I can\u2019t.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 But there are plenty of others.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Is that your favorite?\u00a0 Is that the one you would have picked?\u00a0 <br>\u00a0\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 It\u2019s the one I thought of first, but I also thought about Prince of Peace.\u00a0 I thought it speaks both of His royalty\u2014but also, what He came to deliver in my life\u2014that He came to bring peace with God.\u00a0 He also came to enable me to live in a marriage in a peaceful relationship.\u00a0 We\u2019ve done that for 40 years.\u00a0 Now, I\u2019m not saying it\u2019s always been peaceful; but as Jesus has taken up residence in our lives and in our marriage, we have enjoyed peace.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, in raising children\u2014boy, what parent doesn\u2019t want peace delivered to your children and the real hope of seeing the Prince of Peace and to see Him as He is and to experience that peace, with no static on the line?\u00a0 I\u2019m looking forward to that.\u00a0 That will be a magnificent day.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And just meditating on these names at Christmastime\u2014again, that\u2019s the whole reason for these seven ornaments hanging on trees\u2014is so when you walk by, you catch a glimpse, and you reflect, and you meditate, and you think about whom it is that Christmas is all about and what our focus ought to be at Christmastime.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think what will happen with some of these is there are going to be some churches that will order, maybe, several boxes of the seven Adorenaments and have a tree that hangs in the church that is purely the names of Jesus Christ.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSomeday, I look forward to this and celebrating this because this has been Barbara\u2019s dream for a number of years\u2014to see a Christmas tree that has maybe 35, maybe 42 names\u2014maybe more, 49\u2014at Christmas after Christmas\u2014help people celebrate the true meaning of Christmas and the One who really is the reason for the season, Jesus Christ.\u00a0\u00a0 want to read just a portion of an e-mail we got from a listener awhile back.\u00a0 This listener wrote to say:\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tMy husband and I have been married almost 20 years.\u00a0 We decided we wanted to serve God for the rest of our lives.\u00a0 We got married.\u00a0 About ten years into our marriage, our church crumbled; and we were dismayed and discouraged by what had happened.\u00a0 So, we just stopped participating in any organized fellowship.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSpiritually, we became crippled, which led to many problems in our lives: communication breakdown, blaming one another for our own needs not being met, and hardened hearts.\u00a0 I became hungry for fellowship and to hear God\u2019s Word taught; and I started listening to Christian radio.\u00a0 I was pleased when I found <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>.\u00a0 There have been very few topics that have not interested me.\u00a0 The most helpful topics have been FamilyLife<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, Dennis Rainey, and I'm Bob Lepine.\u00a0 Jesus may be the name the angel gave to the baby; but there were other titles that the Bible gives to the One who is the Savior of the world.\u00a0 We\u2019ll talk about those today.\u00a0 Stay tuned.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd welcome to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>.\u00a0 Thanks for joining us on the Thursday edition.\u00a0 I guess after the e-mails, and website visits, and Facebook<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> posts we got last week, you thought, \u201cWe ought to have Barbara back on the radio again to talk about what she\u2019s been doing.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>I think she has hit a nerve.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 There was a little bit of activity here last week!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think she hit a nerve because\u2014well, I knew it, Bob.\u00a0 I think you were there when she was speaking to a small group of folks\u2014I think 30 or 40 folks.\u00a0 She was sharing about this new project that she was creating for families, where she was actually creating a tool to help them celebrate Christmas and put the real meaning into Christmas.\u00a0 As she was sharing, the group broke into applause.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, anytime you speak and the group breaks into applause\u2014but especially a small group\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014because it\u2019s not conducive to having an ovation of sorts; but it so resonated with them that they started to applaud.\u00a0 I think what they were ultimately expressing was, \u201cGive us something to return the real meaning of Christmas to our family so we can do it every year, year after year.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Barbara, welcome back to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 Thank you.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 The resource that you\u2019ve created for Christmas is a series of Christmas ornaments.\u00a0 Each one of them\u2014they\u2019re seven of them\u2014each one of them with a different name for Jesus.\u00a0 You refer to them as His Christmas names.\u00a0 <br><br>My wife was in a meeting this weekend where you were speaking to a group of women about this.\u00a0 I said, \u201cHow was Barbara\u2019s presentation?\u201d\u00a0 She said the women were nodding.\u00a0 I mean, where you\u2019ve talked to folks and shown them what you\u2019re doing, people get excited about this.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, they do because I think there\u2019s a general longing in the hearts of believers and non-believers alike to return Christmas to something that\u2019s meaningful.\u00a0 We\u2019re all tired of the commercialism.\u00a0 We\u2019re all tired of the excess.\u00a0 We\u2019re tired of all the trappings that we know are not what it\u2019s really all about.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think, when I\u2019ve been speaking about this recently and I talk about my dream of Christian homes with Christmas trees in them and the trees are covered in the names of Christ and other symbols of the holiday, people go, \u201cYes, that\u2019s what I want.\u00a0 That\u2019s what I\u2019ve been looking for, and I can\u2019t find it anywhere.\u201d\u00a0 It\u2019s exciting to have these finally available for families to be able to put on their Christmas trees and proclaim their faith.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 This year, she has, as you said, Bob, the Christmas names of Christ.\u00a0 In case you are wondering where those came from, they\u2019re from the book of Luke\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 Luke, Chapter 2.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014and Isaiah.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 And Isaiah.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 The names are Jesus, Christ the Lord, Emmanuel, Mighty God, Savior, Wonderful Counselor, Prince of Peace.\u00a0 When she says, Bob, she envisions a Christmas tree, at some point in the future, covered with names of Christ\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, they ought to come see your tree because that\u2019s what it looks like this year.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, it does.\u00a0 It does look like that this year; but she\u2019s done some study here, and these are not the only names of Christ.\u00a0 How many names have you found in Scripture?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, some scholars estimate that there are as many as 300.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know what all 300 are, but I know what about 30 or 40 are.\u00a0 We\u2019ve grouped them into different categories.\u00a0 So, this year, we have created His Christmas names.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNext year, we\u2019re going to create His royal names which include King of kings, Lord of lords, and Prince.\u00a0 Then, there are four others that are kingly, princely kinds of names.\u00a0 So, we have that group.\u00a0 We have the Messianic names of Christ.\u00a0 We have His eternal names, and there are others.\u00a0 Literally, five or six years from now, Christmas trees really could be covered with a lot of the names of Christ.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 The cool thing about this\u2014and I think most of us kind of walk by the names of Christ, not realizing that each name carries significance.\u00a0 Remember John, Chapter 1, it says, \u201cAnd we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten Son.\u201d\u00a0 He explains God to us by becoming flesh and dwelling among us.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, and the name Jesus, which we think of as His given name\u2014it was His given name.\u00a0 The angel told Mary, \u201cYou shall call His name Jesus;\u201d but that\u2019s just not a name that they picked out of a baby name book.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right!\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s a name that has a meaning to it.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\u00a0 It does.\u00a0 If you buy this set of seven names, included in that set of seven is a little booklet; and in the booklet, I wrote a little piece about the importance of knowing the names of Christ.\u00a0 <br><br>I\u2019m just going to read you a little portion of it:\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIn the beginning, God created and He named.\u00a0 He called the darkness, \u201cnight\u201d, and the light, \u201cday\u201d.\u00a0 He called the dry land, \u201cearth\u201d, and the sky above, \u201cheaven\u201d.\u00a0 He created the sun, the moon, and the stars, giving each one its name.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLittle children learn at a very young age that that warm yellow ball in the sky is called the sun.\u00a0 That is its name.\u00a0 As they grow older, they learn more about its properties\u2014its size, and its effect on the earth, on the oceans, and on their own bodies.\u00a0 Their knowledge of what the name sun means develops and expands as they grow.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tJesus is a man of many names\u2014300, according to some scholars\u2014which tells us right away that He is not like us.\u00a0 In learning the names of Christ, our understanding grows.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe celebration of Christ\u2019s birth has gotten lost in a swirl of fairy tales and merchandising.\u00a0 Think about it, the stunning miracle of God becoming human has become trivialized with toys, and tinsel, and trips to the mall.\u00a0 What\u2019s the solution?\u00a0 The Bible tells us, \u201c...looking unto Jesus,\u201d in Hebrews 12:2\u2014learn His names.\u00a0 In so doing, you will know more of Him.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSeeing Jesus stirs a response of adoration and worship; and the things of earth become less important.\u00a0 Our misplaced affections are righted.\u00a0 May His names adorn your home at Christmas and beyond as you give prominence to the Savior of the world, Jesus Christ.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I hope as families have these ornaments and as they read about why knowing His names are important, it will help them worship.\u00a0 I mean, we sing the song, \u201cO, Come Let Us Adore Him,\u201d which is where we came up with the name, Adorenaments<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>.\u00a0 These are ornaments that help us adore Christ.\u00a0 So, as families talk about the meaning of each of these names, it will help us worship Him, which is what Christmas needs to be about.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 The first ornament on the top of the box of seven\u2014if folks get the entire set, the first one is the name Jesus\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014which is the name by which He is most commonly known.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And yet, that\u2019s a name that has meaning attached to it.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 It does have meaning.\u00a0 Most of us don\u2019t know what it means, but Jesus is actually a derivative of the name Joshua.\u00a0 Many children know about the story of Joshua.\u00a0 Jesus means the strong one, the one who rescues His people.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen the angel announced to Mary and to Joseph and said, \u201cYou will have a baby, and you will name Him Jesus,\u201d he was foretelling what Jesus would do for us\u2014that Jesus would be our deliverer and our rescuer.\u00a0 More than likely, Mary and Joseph understood that meaning because they knew who Joshua was.\u00a0 They knew their history and what Joshua had done.\u00a0 So, they knew that this baby they were going to have was going to be the deliverer.\u00a0 That\u2019s what the name Jesus means.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 The angel said, \u201cYou will call Him Jesus because\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 Correct.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014\u201cHe will save His people from their sins.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, in the same way that Joshua led the nation into battle against their enemies and delivered the nation into the Promised Land, Jesus delivers us from our sins into the Promised Land.\u00a0 When we think of the name Jesus, rather than just thinking of it as a common name, we should think of it as a title\u2014a Messianic announcement that this is the One who is your deliverer.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And the promise of deliverance from sin because that\u2019s the longing of our hearts\u2014is that we can have someone who died for what we didn\u2019t do right\u2014for all the mistakes and failures we\u2019ve made and how we disobeyed God.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 In that same announcement that you just referred to, Bob, when the angel spoke, he also said in Luke, Chapter 2, \u201cFor unto you is born this day in the City of David a Savior who is Christ the Lord.\u201d\u00a0 Jesus was not only given the name Jesus, but it was also said of Him that He would be Savior\u2014which is another name\u2014and that he would also be Christ the Lord.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, He was more than just the Deliver and the Rescuer; He was the Savior.\u00a0 He was the long-anticipated Messiah that the Jewish people had been looking for, for hundreds of years.\u00a0 The word, Savior, means Messiah.\u00a0 When they said that\u2014that also had meaning about who this boy\u2014who was going to be born would be\u2014who He would become as a man.\u00a0 He was going to be the Rescuer and the Deliver but also the Messiah.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You took those other names, Savior and Christ the Lord, and made ornaments for those names as well.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s correct.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, Jesus, Savior, Christ the Lord, those three came out of Luke, Chapter 2; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s correct.\u00a0 That\u2019s correct.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think what\u2019s important for a mom or a dad, grandma, grandpa, to understand at this point, is that these Adorenaments have been created, really, to help them fulfill Deuteronomy, Chapter 6.\u00a0 This\u2014I wouldn\u2019t say this is your life verse, but it certainly is one of the most important in your life because it\u2019s not only our responsibility but it\u2019s our duty with the next generation.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, it\u2019s a verse that applies to everyone, whether you are a parent, or a grandparent, or even if you\u2019re not a parent and you don\u2019t have children.\u00a0 The Great Commission commands us to go into all the world and teach and make disciples.\u00a0 The whole idea of teaching truth to others is inherent in our responsibility, as believers, no matter what your family status is.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAs parents, though, we do have a special responsibility to teach our children.\u00a0 That\u2019s talked about in Deuteronomy.\u00a0 Moses commanded the children.\u00a0 He said, \u201cThese commandments that I\u2019m giving you today, they shall be on your heart.\u201d\u00a0 First of all, we have to embrace them individually.\u00a0 Then, he said, \u201cTeach them to your children.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne of the things that I hope will be accomplished by these Adorenaments\u2014these names of Christ for decorating your Christmas tree\u2014is that it will give moms and dads, aunts and uncles, and grandmas and grandpas, for that matter\u2014it will give us an opportunity and a way\u2014an easy way\u2014to teach our children the truth of who Jesus really is and return to Christmas the central reason for why we celebrate the birth of Christ.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Barbara, you wrote a letter to moms and dads that\u2014the booklet that\u2019s got the devotionals for each of these names.\u00a0 It\u2019s in a sleeve that\u2019s got this letter on the outside of it.\u00a0 Just share what was in that letter.\u00a0 What was on your heart as you wrote this to moms and dads?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, I wanted moms and dads\u2014moms, in particular, because moms are the ones who hear about these traditions and these ideas.\u00a0 They go, \u201cI want to do that.\u201d\u00a0 So, moms are the ones who often carry the desire; and they carry a lot of the weight of executing these things in the home.\u00a0 Yet, we\u2019re also the ones who are baking the cookies, and we\u2019re getting the teachers\u2019 gifts, and we\u2019re helping the kids think of what they can get their siblings, and we\u2019re putting up the tree.\u00a0 Moms are busy, and they\u2019re harried, and they are worn out.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I wanted to write a letter to moms when they got this that says, \u201cDo your best, and it is okay if you don\u2019t get it done.\u201d\u00a0 This is what I wrote to those who get the set of seven.\u00a0 This comes with a little booklet:\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAs Christmas arrives at the end of the calendar year, it is as if the previous 11 months have been leading to this grand, culminating event.\u00a0 Now, it is December and tree trimming has begun.\u00a0 This box of seven ornaments called Adorenaments has been designed to help you teach your family the richness of the treasure we were given when Christ was born in Bethlehem.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut like most women, we put a lot of pressure on ourselves to make meaningful family memories at Christmas because we know that traditions are important.\u00a0 We want our kids to stay connected to home in healthy ways, but creating a Hallmark<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> moment is not our job.\u00a0 It is God who makes the moments meaningful. None of us needs another obligation in this exceptionally busy season.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, as you begin to read the short stories in this little volume and then get interrupted or never finish, don\u2019t worry.\u00a0 Reading even one or two is better than none.\u00a0 Focus on what you accomplish and not what is left undone.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI just want to encourage moms and dads that, as you try to engage with your kids, you\u2019re going to get some eye rolls.\u00a0 You\u2019re going to get some kids that poke their sibling and make somebody cry.\u00a0 It\u2019s not going to be beautiful.\u00a0 It\u2019s not going to be perfect, but it\u2019s worth the investment.\u00a0 It\u2019s worth taking the time to teach your children about the names of Christ.\u00a0 If you do it year after year, it\u2019s going to stick; and they are going to remember it.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 What you\u2019re really talking about is adding a tradition to your Christmas that brings out the real meaning of Christmas.\u00a0 I went on my Facebook page and I asked some of those who are friends of mine there if they would just share what some of their favorite traditions were.\u00a0 It was interesting.\u00a0 Some of them\u2014it was as simple as going to grandma\u2019s house.\u00a0 \u201cWe went to our grandparents\u2019 house.\u00a0 It was the trip there that was my favorite memory of anticipating Christmas at the grandparents\u2019 house.\u201d\u00a0 Others talked about a gift that was opened on Christmas Eve.\u00a0 Still others talked about the reading of the Christmas story.\u00a0 The dad would pull out a Bible, and every Christmas Eve would read the story.\u00a0 The kids would sit around, drinking hot chocolate, or hot tea, and eat some cookies, and talk about the reason for the season.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br>We attempted some of this as a family.\u00a0 I\u2019ll be honest with you\u2014I always felt like it was just a little short\u2014just didn\u2019t quite get there.\u00a0 What I really like about what Barbara\u2019s done is you can make it as simple as just reading about one of these names, or you can take all seven and begin to unpack them and talk about their meaning and their application to your individual lives\u2014maybe have each of your children pick a favorite, like I\u2019m about to do with you, Bob.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br>Out of these names\u2014and I know you hate these kinds of questions\u2014this is recorded over our 20 years of radio; but it\u2019s only seven you\u2019ve got to review here, Bob.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, I know.\u00a0 Okay, so only seven\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, what\u2019s your favorite?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Gee, I\u2014which of the six names am I going to make less important than the other?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014the other one.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014than the other one.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, really.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Come on.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Huh?\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 We\u2019re talking about the names of Jesus.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Do you have a favorite, though; really?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019ve always liked the name, Emmanuel, God with us.\u00a0 I like it because I reflect on John, Chapter 1, verse 14, where it says, \u201cThe Word became flesh,\u201d and pitched His tent\u2014the literal idea of John 1:14 is that He pitched His tent among our tents.\u00a0 I\u2019ve always thought, \u201cWell, how would life be different if Jesus pitched His tent in your living room?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh, yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 How would things around the house be different if Jesus had a tent in the backyard; and He was coming in every day and saying, \u201cWhat are we doing today?\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014and, \u201cWhat are you watching there on TV?\u201d\u2014and all those kinds of things.\u00a0 It really is the idea that God has come near\u2014that He has come to dwell among us\u2014the idea of the incarnation.\u00a0 Emmanuel means God with us.\u00a0 Remember, Jesus said before He left that He didn\u2019t just come to be with us and then to leave; but when He left, He said, \u201cI will be with you until the end of the age.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 So, the idea of God with us is not just that He came at Christmas, and He left at Easter, and now we\u2019re on our own\u2014<br><br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, that\u2019s\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014but He is still Emmanuel today.\u00a0 He is still God with us.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 That is really good.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 Exactly.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 What about you, Barbara?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 Wow!\u00a0 I didn\u2019t know you were going to ask me.\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 I guess I would have to say, \u201cSavior\u201d because as I\u2019ve now been a believer in Christ for, I guess, 40 years\u2014I don\u2019t know, maybe not quite\u2014I don\u2019t know how long.\u00a0 Over 40 years, actually, because it was before we got married.\u00a0 The older I get, the more I appreciate what Jesus did and the fact that He would willingly come and do no wrong and yet suffer for my sin and the sin of everyone else is pretty overwhelming.\u00a0 So, I do love the name, Savior.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I do too.\u00a0 Since you selected that one, I can\u2019t.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong>\u00a0 But there are plenty of others.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Is that your favorite?\u00a0 Is that the one you would have picked?\u00a0 <br>\u00a0\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 It\u2019s the one I thought of first, but I also thought about Prince of Peace.\u00a0 I thought it speaks both of His royalty\u2014but also, what He came to deliver in my life\u2014that He came to bring peace with God.\u00a0 He also came to enable me to live in a marriage in a peaceful relationship.\u00a0 We\u2019ve done that for 40 years.\u00a0 Now, I\u2019m not saying it\u2019s always been peaceful; but as Jesus has taken up residence in our lives and in our marriage, we have enjoyed peace.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, in raising children\u2014boy, what parent doesn\u2019t want peace delivered to your children and the real hope of seeing the Prince of Peace and to see Him as He is and to experience that peace, with no static on the line?\u00a0 I\u2019m looking forward to that.\u00a0 That will be a magnificent day.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And just meditating on these names at Christmastime\u2014again, that\u2019s the whole reason for these seven ornaments hanging on trees\u2014is so when you walk by, you catch a glimpse, and you reflect, and you meditate, and you think about whom it is that Christmas is all about and what our focus ought to be at Christmastime.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think what will happen with some of these is there are going to be some churches that will order, maybe, several boxes of the seven Adorenaments and have a tree that hangs in the church that is purely the names of Jesus Christ.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSomeday, I look forward to this and celebrating this because this has been Barbara\u2019s dream for a number of years\u2014to see a Christmas tree that has maybe 35, maybe 42 names\u2014maybe more, 49\u2014at Christmas after Christmas\u2014help people celebrate the true meaning of Christmas and the One who really is the reason for the season, Jesus Christ.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Listeners are going to want to see what these look like.\u00a0 If you go to FamilyLifeToday.com, you can see the Adorenaments that Barbara has been working on.\u00a0 All seven of them are online.\u00a0 You can order them individually; and we were dismayed and discouraged by what had happened.\u00a0 So, we just stopped participating in any organized fellowship.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSpiritually, we became crippled, which led to many problems in our lives: communication breakdown, blaming one another for our own needs not being met, and hardened hearts.\u00a0 I became hungry for fellowship and to hear God\u2019s Word taught;
