but Lynn and Dineen, your husbands still aren\u2019t buying it.\u00a0 They\u2019re okay with you talking about your marriage and where you guys are.\u00a0 You\u2019ve got a blog where you\u2019re addressing this spiritually-mismatched situation.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tDennis, for some reason, has decided to bring out the fast ball and pitch it your way.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 So here\u2019s the question\u2014you\u2019ve been married, Dineen, 25 years; 20 for Lynn; and 40 for Darla:\u00a0 \u201cWhat was or is the most difficult situation you faced, where you had to submit to your husband?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Are you talking about an actual event?\u00a0 You want to know when that was done\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 Yes, that you can share, here, on air.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t:\u00a0 I think, for me, one of the most difficult things has been where I wanted my husband to go to church with me.\u00a0 He was not going to have any of it.\u00a0 \u201cI don\u2019t believe that!\u00a0 I don\u2019t believe in God.\u00a0 I am <em>not <\/em>going to church!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Not even the Christmas Eve service?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong>\u00a0 Not at the time.\u00a0 In the early years, he did not want to have anything to do with church.\u00a0 For me, I loved that weekly recharge just to get through my week.\u00a0 For me to respect him and say, \u201cI am not going to nag you every week to go.\u00a0 I am not going to manipulate,\u201d because we will try everything under the sun to get our men to go to church.\u00a0 It\u2019s a lot for selfish reasons because church is couple-oriented.\u00a0 You feel silly walking in there by yourself.\u00a0 I mean, all of those things go on in your head, and you will do a lot of things to guilt him into it\u2014to manipulate, or whatever.\u00a0 I tried them all to get my husband to go to church.\u00a0 I had to let go of that and say, \u201cI want you to go to church when and if you ever want to go to church; but I am going to get up and go because it\u2019s good for me and it makes me happy.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 How have you dealt with\u2014or how would you coach somebody to deal with\u2014that person meeting you and going, \u201cSo, are you married?\u00a0 Where\u2019s your husband?\u201d \u2014that conversation that happens over, and over, and over again.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes; that\u2019s a very difficult area where, when you\u2019re unequally yoked, you are a married single in church.\u00a0 Oftentimes, the Christian community is not welcoming of that.\u00a0 They\u2019ll say something, trying to be nice or helpful, and it really kind of is, \u201cWhere is your husband?\u201d\u00a0 That comes back to your identity in Christ.\u00a0 When you are so in love with Jesus and you know who you are because you are Christ\u2019s child, you can go to church by yourself.\u00a0 You can do a lot of things by yourself and handle your husband not attending with you.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, but I want you to coach those of us who are interacting with half of the marriage that is coming to church.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 What should you say when somebody comes up and says, \u201cAre you married?\u00a0 Where\u2019s your husband?\u201d\u00a0 How do you respond today?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lynn:<\/strong>\u00a0 How do I respond today?\u00a0 I say, \u201cI\u2019m married.\u00a0 My husband, Mike, is not a believer.\u201d\u00a0 I will tell them straight out, you know.\u00a0 \u201cBut I\u2019m hopeful!\u201d\u00a0 You know, they may ask more or may not.\u00a0 I think, for me, it\u2019s nice to be asked to go to some of the other couple things and have an opportunity to be a part of that.\u00a0 I will tell them, \u201cMy husband is not a believer.\u201d\u00a0 I think women feel shame in that\u2014to admit that.\u00a0 I want to give them freedom.\u00a0 It\u2019s okay.\u00a0 It\u2019s okay to say, \u201cI love Jesus, and I am praying for my husband.\u00a0 He is my pre-believer,\u201d \u2014we like to call them\u2014a pre-believer.\u00a0 It\u2019s okay.\u00a0 Don\u2019t let people shame you about this situation because you shouldn\u2019t feel shame over it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Okay, I\u2019m going to\u2014if you\u2019ll pardon the expression, I\u2019m going to double down on Dennis\u2019s fast ball that he threw at you here; okay?\u00a0 I\u2019ll just throw this one\u2014I would imagine\u2014I mean, all of us, in whatever marriage we\u2019re in, can see somebody else outside of our marriage and go, \u201cBoy, she\u2019s an attractive woman,\u201d or, \u201cShe has a nice smile,\u201d or, \u201cHe\u2019s handsome.\u201d\u00a0 When you are married to an unbeliever and you start to see some really godly guy, \u2014\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 All three of them are nodding their heads!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lynn:<\/strong>\u00a0 That is so painful!\u00a0 We have to go through a part of our lives where we go, \u201cI wanted that so badly!\u00a0 I wanted to be that family where\u2014\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 You know, I start off in the book telling a story\u2014I went to church, finally, by myself:\u00a0 I sit down; and in scoots this couple, and they\u2019re holding hands in church.\u00a0 It was just like a knife going into my chest because I wanted that <em>so badly<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 But that\u2019s not the question Bob\u2019s asking.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019m asking about seeing that godly guy and just letting your mind go\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 You can\u2019t go there.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lynn:<\/strong>\u00a0 You really can\u2019t!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong>\u00a0 Really.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 No, you can\u2019t.\u00a0 It\u2019s that, \u201cOkay, Lord, Your plan.\u00a0 You have a plan here, and I trust that.\u00a0 I love my husband, and maybe he\u2019s not following you right now; but this\u2014\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 But you\u2019re all in?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 I am all in!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lynn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right; right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 And there is so much in my guy that I can sit there and appreciate, right there, too.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lynn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Exactly!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, you build the fence at the top of the cliff.\u00a0 You don\u2019t go anywhere near the edge.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 Nope!\u00a0 Nope; nope; nope.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And if you\u2019re mind starts to take you there, you have to consciously, purposefully go, \u201cNo.\u00a0 I\u2019m not going there.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 Absolutely!\u00a0 That\u2019s that transforming our minds\u2014what Romans 12:2\u2014the capturing those thoughts\u2014because they\u2019re going to come.\u00a0 You capture it, you give it to God, and you just, \u201cI don\u2019t want to go there.\u00a0 Lord, I\u2019m giving you that.\u00a0 I\u2019m asking Your forgiveness if I need it; I\u2019m asking for Your grace.\u00a0 I don\u2019t even want to remember that I thought that.\u00a0 Take it out of my head.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Darla, did you ever have to battle with that when your husband wasn\u2019t following Christ?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong>\u00a0 No, not really.\u00a0 The exact same response that Lynn gave is that\u2014what I did\u2014was to the comparison\u2014it would come out with sadness\u2014that, \u201cI\u2019m so sad that my marriage is not like that.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s where the comparison goes to\u2014not to, \u201cDo I want that?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tUnfortunately, there are so many today who are looking to think that the defining of their marriage has to be defined by the word, happy.\u00a0 When it\u2019s not happy, they blend what the world has to say\u2014and that says, \u201cIt\u2019s time to move on.\u201d\u00a0 There might be a general thought of, \u201cWell, I\u2019m not happy.\u00a0 He\u2019s not a believer.\u00a0 I belong to God.\u00a0 This should be something I should do\u2014get out of this marriage and look for that Mr. Right,\u201d \u2014always thinking that there is someone who will be the ideal spiritual leader.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 I\u2019m thinking we referenced First Corinthians 7 where it says, \u201cIf an unbeliever leaves, let him leave.\u201d\u00a0 I\u2019m just wondering if believing spouses ever think, \u201cBoy, if I could just get him to leave.\u201d\u00a0 You know?\u00a0 Kind of, \u201cIf I can just manipulate the situation to where he\u2019ll leave, then I\u2019m free!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, Darla did.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 She baited him.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You wanted that?\u00a0 You were hoping that would happen?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Your husband got a job transfer to Houston.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You just said, \u201cYou can go on down there!\u00a0 What would you think if you went and we didn\u2019t?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, yes.\u00a0 It was with fear and trepidation, but our marriage was a lot more severe than what the girls are experiencing here.\u00a0 There were a lot of issues where he was choosing worldly lifestyles.\u00a0 I did not want to participate in that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong> So I truly thought\u2014again, a baby Christian and not really even understanding the covenant aspect of marriage\u2014and thinking that, \u201cIt would be so much easier,\u201d \u2014it\u2019s that word, happy, again\u2014\u201cI would be so much happier if he would just walk away without me.\u201d\u00a0 Once I understood the covenant of marriage, I had made that paradigm shift from, \u201cI need to get out of this marriage,\u201d to, \u201cI\u2019m going to live a covenant marriage before God.\u00a0 That\u2019s who I made this covenant with\u2014my husband\u2014before God.\u00a0 I will stay in this marriage because of Jesus Christ.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Let\u2019s talk about money because values are actually expressed in how we spend our money.\u00a0 You ladies undoubtedly have a Kingdom mindset around your money.\u00a0 You think about giving and wanting giving to be a part of what you\u2019re passing on to your kids so they see your family being a part of generosity, tithing, an offering\u2014you know, the things that Paul exhorted Timothy to.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, support the church, support the missionaries, help advance the Kingdom.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 How do you handle that when you disagree?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 There was a point in my marriage where the issue came up.\u00a0 I wanted to tithe.\u00a0 I wasn\u2019t in a job at the time.\u00a0 I was staying at home with our girls, and I wanted to be at home with them.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t feel right just giving to the church, without talking to my husband about it.\u00a0 It was an area of friction.\u00a0 Again, what I wanted to give, he was having trouble with.\u00a0 He didn\u2019t feel comfortable giving to church.\u00a0 That was an issue for him.\u00a0 It was something he didn\u2019t believe in and he didn\u2019t support\u2014so, it was a struggle for him.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAt the time, I was reading <em>The Wonderful, Spirit-Filled Life <\/em>by Charles Stanley.\u00a0 He gave a wonderful example in that book about when you have these issues that come up in relationships\u2014that are an issue that you need to work out.\u00a0 You write it on an index card, and you bring it before God.\u00a0 I did what he said in the book.\u00a0 The whole point of it was to hold this issue, and it\u2019s like you\u2019re putting it on the altar.\u00a0 You\u2019re saying, \u201cGod, I am willing to let go of this and put it before You.\u00a0 Whatever Your will is, is what I want.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI went before God and prayed about it.\u00a0 I felt God impress upon me to speak to my husband and ask for what amount he was comfortable with to give to the church.\u00a0 Whatever that was, I was to accept.\u00a0 I went to my husband and I said, \u201cOkay, I would like to give something to my church each month.\u00a0 What amount are you comfortable with?\u00a0 Whatever that is, I\u2019m fine with.\u201d\u00a0 He gave me an amount that was even more than I was secretly hoping for!\u00a0 [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou know, it just showed me again, if we leave it in God\u2019s hands, He works it out.\u00a0 Whether or not your spouse believes, He\u2019s in there working and will surprise you if you just let go.\u00a0 Let God be the one leading, and let Him do it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Lynn, you have a story around that whole idea of the surprise of God.\u00a0 Your husband Mike gave you the gift of a garden; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lynn:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right, yes.\u00a0 About four years ago, we redid our backyard.\u00a0 We ripped out the grass.\u00a0 For a gift, he allowed me to put in a vegetable garden, which I never thought I would love to garden, but I do.\u00a0 We hired a contractor, and his name was Joe.\u00a0 Joe shows up.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t know, at the time when we hired him\u2014you know\u2014he was a Christian!\u00a0 The first day, he gets out in the backyard and plugs in the radio.\u00a0 Christian radio was just blaring in the backyard.\u00a0 [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI am going, \u201cOh boy, my husband is going to freak out over this!\u201d\u00a0 I am like secretly going, \u201cYes!\u00a0 Go, Joe!\u201d\u00a0 The neighbors\u2014you know, he is blasting it out there!\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 For two weeks, Joe\u2014he cannot contain his Christian love and his Christlikeness.\u00a0 He even prayed with one other contractor in the backyard for him to come to Christ.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s the last day of the job, and Joe is packing up to leave.\u00a0 We head out to the front yard.\u00a0 We are standing out on our driveway, in the middle of our neighborhood.\u00a0 Joe looks at my husband Mike and he goes, \u201cI was once like you.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t believe.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t need God.\u201d\u00a0 He kind of tells his story about his wife praying for him.\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 He said, \u201cI was just like you!\u201d\u00a0 He was staring at my husband; and he says, \u201cDo you want to pray with me?\u201d\u00a0 My husband says, \u201cYes!\u201d\u00a0 Joe reaches out, takes my husband\u2019s hands and leads my husband through a prayer of salvation.\u00a0 I was astonished!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI just was amazed that God had orchestrated this whole two-week thing, and Joe praying with my husband.\u00a0 He drove away, and I didn\u2019t know what to say!\u00a0 The next day, I did ask my husband, \u201cSo, what did you think about Joe?\u201d\u00a0 He goes, \u201cWell, I kind of was really surprised.\u00a0 I\u2019m not really sure what that all\u2014if I really mean it.\u201d\u00a0 But I have to tell you, he prayed it.\u00a0 He prayed it sincerely, and I have seen slow changes in my husband over time. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat is so great for us, who are unequally yoked, is we get to see God do those kind of things in our ordinary lives with our spouses to astonish us and tell us God will not give up on our husbands\u2014to encourage us with moments like that to keep praying, to keep living out our faith, to love that man because God loves him so much more than we do.\u00a0 Then, we get to have that front row seat\u2014that\u2019s what I call it\u2014to watch God pound on the heart of our spouse.\u00a0 I am astonished regularly at the lengths our God will go to pursue our men for their lives. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Darla, I\u2019ve got to imagine there are women who are listening who are going, \u201cOkay, so what you\u2019re saying is that if I\u2019m married to an unbelieving spouse, I just need to pray and shut up.\u00a0 Isn\u2019t there something more I can do than pray and shut up?!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh, it is so strange to hear what God has to say on this issue, which is completely against anything a woman will do\u2014and that is to be quiet.\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 It just doesn\u2019t make sense to us because we always believe there is something practical we can do and something that, obviously, our mouths can say.\u00a0 But God has done this before.\u00a0 He has told an entire nation to march around walls and then on the seventh day, blow horns.\u00a0 He has told some strange instructions to other generations before us.\u00a0 These are our strange instructions.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOnce we begin to try that, it really is something that takes time.\u00a0 I think that, very often in today\u2019s generation, everything is so instantaneous that we can\u2019t understand it might take me time to learn to be quiet.\u00a0 It might take me time to learn to trust God with this, \u201cDo I trust God?\u00a0 Do I know God enough?\u00a0 Can I trust Him with this?\u00a0 If I\u2019m silent, will He act?\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 You know, you might want to wake up the second day, third day, thinking, \u201cWell, did God act last night?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong>\u00a0 It does take a lot of time on your part to really invest in understanding who Christ is in your life and letting God now invest in your husband\u2019s life.\u00a0 Very often, we\u2019re holding up the process because we\u2019re manipulating.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes; here\u2019s the way I think a lot of us think\u2014not just women, but a lot of us\u2014we think, \u201cHow can God act if I\u2019m not in control?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And just saying it out loud exposes how silly it is.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u201cHow can God do this if I\u2019m not in control?\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s the point; right?!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 Very well said.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong>\u00a0 Each of the issues that you might include with all of that would be the same\u2014submission\u2014\u201cHow do I submit?\u201d\u00a0 Well, that\u2019s the same concept\u2014letting go and allowing God to give me the strength to do it.\u00a0 Forgiveness\u2014same concept\u2014\u201cDo I trust God enough to hold me and heal me while I forgive?\u201d\u00a0 The same concept of raising a child without your husband\u2019s input, spiritually.\u00a0 \u201cDo I trust God enough to give me the strength to invest in this child by myself?\u201d\u00a0 It is all coming down to, \u201cCan I trust God?\u201d\u00a0 That is what takes time\u2014learning to trust God with any of these issues. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 We\u2019re all on that same journey.\u00a0 Now, I\u2019m not going to suggest that what I\u2019m about to recommend is as strange as marching around the walls of Jericho seven times and then blowing a horn; but I am going to suggest something that may seem almost like, \u201cReally?\u00a0 You would suggest that I invite my spouse to go to a <em>Weekend to Remember<\/em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u2014a marriage getaway that\u2019s based on the Bible?\u00a0 You would encourage me to do that in hopes that perhaps they\u2019ll experience more of marriage according to God\u2019s design, maybe hear a little bit about who God is, and what the plan of salvation is, and how it all works?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI would say, \u201cAbsolutely!\u201d because it\u2019s fun; Darla Stone and her husband did not share a common love for Jesus.\u00a0 The implications were significant.\u00a0 It meant that their relationships with other couples were affected, decisions about how to spend their time, and whether or not to attend church.\u00a0 It spilled into a wide variety of areas that affected both of them.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong>\u00a0 There were a lot of issues where he was choosing worldly lifestyles.\u00a0 I did not want to participate in that.\u00a0 I truly thought\u2014again, a baby Christian and not really even understanding the covenant aspect of marriage\u2014thinking that, \u201cIt would be so much easier\u201d \u2014it\u2019s that word, happy, again\u2014\u201cI would be so much happier if he would just walk away without me.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> This is <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> for Wednesday, December 5<sup>th<\/sup>.\u00a0 Our host is the president of FamilyLife<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, Dennis Rainey, and I'm Bob Lepine.\u00a0 We\u2019ll talk today about the honest emotions that are part of a spiritually-mismatched marriage.\u00a0 Stay tuned.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd welcome to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>.\u00a0 Thanks for joining us.\u00a0 I\u2019m not sure why you decided, right before we came on the air, to tell the guests that you are going to\u2014you just scared them!\u00a0 That\u2019s what you did.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I did.\u00a0 I told them I had a tough question that I was going to ask.\u00a0 Let\u2019s introduce the topic and explain to our listeners what we\u2019re talking about.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Let\u2019s get after it!\u00a0 Okay, we\u2019ve got three ladies joining us again on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>:\u00a0 Darla, Dineen, and Lynn.\u00a0 Thank you, ladies, for being here.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Thanks for having us!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Thanks for having us!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lynn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Thanks for having us!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 All three of these ladies have been or are still currently married to men who don\u2019t share their faith in Christ.\u00a0 Darla, in your case, your husband has come to faith; but Lynn and Dineen, your husbands still aren\u2019t buying it.\u00a0 They\u2019re okay with you talking about your marriage and where you guys are.\u00a0 You\u2019ve got a blog where you\u2019re addressing this spiritually-mismatched situation.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tDennis, for some reason, has decided to bring out the fast ball and pitch it your way.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 So here\u2019s the question\u2014you\u2019ve been married, Dineen, 25 years; 20 for Lynn; and 40 for Darla:\u00a0 \u201cWhat was or is the most difficult situation you faced, where you had to submit to your husband?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Are you talking about an actual event?\u00a0 You want to know when that was done\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 Yes, that you can share, here, on air.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t:\u00a0 I think, for me, one of the most difficult things has been where I wanted my husband to go to church with me.\u00a0 He was not going to have any of it.\u00a0 \u201cI don\u2019t believe that!\u00a0 I don\u2019t believe in God.\u00a0 I am <em>not <\/em>going to church!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Not even the Christmas Eve service?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong>\u00a0 Not at the time.\u00a0 In the early years, he did not want to have anything to do with church.\u00a0 For me, I loved that weekly recharge just to get through my week.\u00a0 For me to respect him and say, \u201cI am not going to nag you every week to go.\u00a0 I am not going to manipulate,\u201d because we will try everything under the sun to get our men to go to church.\u00a0 It\u2019s a lot for selfish reasons because church is couple-oriented.\u00a0 You feel silly walking in there by yourself.\u00a0 I mean, all of those things go on in your head, and you will do a lot of things to guilt him into it\u2014to manipulate, or whatever.\u00a0 I tried them all to get my husband to go to church.\u00a0 I had to let go of that and say, \u201cI want you to go to church when and if you ever want to go to church; but I am going to get up and go because it\u2019s good for me and it makes me happy.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 How have you dealt with\u2014or how would you coach somebody to deal with\u2014that person meeting you and going, \u201cSo, are you married?\u00a0 Where\u2019s your husband?\u201d \u2014that conversation that happens over, and over, and over again.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes; that\u2019s a very difficult area where, when you\u2019re unequally yoked, you are a married single in church.\u00a0 Oftentimes, the Christian community is not welcoming of that.\u00a0 They\u2019ll say something, trying to be nice or helpful, and it really kind of is, \u201cWhere is your husband?\u201d\u00a0 That comes back to your identity in Christ.\u00a0 When you are so in love with Jesus and you know who you are because you are Christ\u2019s child, you can go to church by yourself.\u00a0 You can do a lot of things by yourself and handle your husband not attending with you.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, but I want you to coach those of us who are interacting with half of the marriage that is coming to church.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 What should you say when somebody comes up and says, \u201cAre you married?\u00a0 Where\u2019s your husband?\u201d\u00a0 How do you respond today?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lynn:<\/strong>\u00a0 How do I respond today?\u00a0 I say, \u201cI\u2019m married.\u00a0 My husband, Mike, is not a believer.\u201d\u00a0 I will tell them straight out, you know.\u00a0 \u201cBut I\u2019m hopeful!\u201d\u00a0 You know, they may ask more or may not.\u00a0 I think, for me, it\u2019s nice to be asked to go to some of the other couple things and have an opportunity to be a part of that.\u00a0 I will tell them, \u201cMy husband is not a believer.\u201d\u00a0 I think women feel shame in that\u2014to admit that.\u00a0 I want to give them freedom.\u00a0 It\u2019s okay.\u00a0 It\u2019s okay to say, \u201cI love Jesus, and I am praying for my husband.\u00a0 He is my pre-believer,\u201d \u2014we like to call them\u2014a pre-believer.\u00a0 It\u2019s okay.\u00a0 Don\u2019t let people shame you about this situation because you shouldn\u2019t feel shame over it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Okay, I\u2019m going to\u2014if you\u2019ll pardon the expression, I\u2019m going to double down on Dennis\u2019s fast ball that he threw at you here; okay?\u00a0 I\u2019ll just throw this one\u2014I would imagine\u2014I mean, all of us, in whatever marriage we\u2019re in, can see somebody else outside of our marriage and go, \u201cBoy, she\u2019s an attractive woman,\u201d or, \u201cShe has a nice smile,\u201d or, \u201cHe\u2019s handsome.\u201d\u00a0 When you are married to an unbeliever and you start to see some really godly guy, \u2014\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 All three of them are nodding their heads!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lynn:<\/strong>\u00a0 That is so painful!\u00a0 We have to go through a part of our lives where we go, \u201cI wanted that so badly!\u00a0 I wanted to be that family where\u2014\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 You know, I start off in the book telling a story\u2014I went to church, finally, by myself:\u00a0 I sit down; and in scoots this couple, and they\u2019re holding hands in church.\u00a0 It was just like a knife going into my chest because I wanted that <em>so badly<\/em>. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 But that\u2019s not the question Bob\u2019s asking.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019m asking about seeing that godly guy and just letting your mind go\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 You can\u2019t go there.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lynn:<\/strong>\u00a0 You really can\u2019t!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong>\u00a0 Really.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 No, you can\u2019t.\u00a0 It\u2019s that, \u201cOkay, Lord, Your plan.\u00a0 You have a plan here, and I trust that.\u00a0 I love my husband, and maybe he\u2019s not following you right now; but this\u2014\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 But you\u2019re all in?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 I am all in!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lynn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right; right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 And there is so much in my guy that I can sit there and appreciate, right there, too.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lynn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Exactly!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, you build the fence at the top of the cliff.\u00a0 You don\u2019t go anywhere near the edge.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 Nope!\u00a0 Nope; nope; nope.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And if you\u2019re mind starts to take you there, you have to consciously, purposefully go, \u201cNo.\u00a0 I\u2019m not going there.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 Absolutely!\u00a0 That\u2019s that transforming our minds\u2014what Romans 12:2\u2014the capturing those thoughts\u2014because they\u2019re going to come.\u00a0 You capture it, you give it to God, and you just, \u201cI don\u2019t want to go there.\u00a0 Lord, I\u2019m giving you that.\u00a0 I\u2019m asking Your forgiveness if I need it; I\u2019m asking for Your grace.\u00a0 I don\u2019t even want to remember that I thought that.\u00a0 Take it out of my head.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Darla, did you ever have to battle with that when your husband wasn\u2019t following Christ?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong>\u00a0 No, not really.\u00a0 The exact same response that Lynn gave is that\u2014what I did\u2014was to the comparison\u2014it would come out with sadness\u2014that, \u201cI\u2019m so sad that my marriage is not like that.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s where the comparison goes to\u2014not to, \u201cDo I want that?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tUnfortunately, there are so many today who are looking to think that the defining of their marriage has to be defined by the word, happy.\u00a0 When it\u2019s not happy, they blend what the world has to say\u2014and that says, \u201cIt\u2019s time to move on.\u201d\u00a0 There might be a general thought of, \u201cWell, I\u2019m not happy.\u00a0 He\u2019s not a believer.\u00a0 I belong to God.\u00a0 This should be something I should do\u2014get out of this marriage and look for that Mr. Right,\u201d \u2014always thinking that there is someone who will be the ideal spiritual leader.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 I\u2019m thinking we referenced First Corinthians 7 where it says, \u201cIf an unbeliever leaves, let him leave.\u201d\u00a0 I\u2019m just wondering if believing spouses ever think, \u201cBoy, if I could just get him to leave.\u201d\u00a0 You know?\u00a0 Kind of, \u201cIf I can just manipulate the situation to where he\u2019ll leave, then I\u2019m free!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, Darla did.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 She baited him.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You wanted that?\u00a0 You were hoping that would happen?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Your husband got a job transfer to Houston.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You just said, \u201cYou can go on down there!\u00a0 What would you think if you went and we didn\u2019t?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, yes.\u00a0 It was with fear and trepidation, but our marriage was a lot more severe than what the girls are experiencing here.\u00a0 There were a lot of issues where he was choosing worldly lifestyles.\u00a0 I did not want to participate in that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong> So I truly thought\u2014again, a baby Christian and not really even understanding the covenant aspect of marriage\u2014and thinking that, \u201cIt would be so much easier,\u201d \u2014it\u2019s that word, happy, again\u2014\u201cI would be so much happier if he would just walk away without me.\u201d\u00a0 Once I understood the covenant of marriage, I had made that paradigm shift from, \u201cI need to get out of this marriage,\u201d to, \u201cI\u2019m going to live a covenant marriage before God.\u00a0 That\u2019s who I made this covenant with\u2014my husband\u2014before God.\u00a0 I will stay in this marriage because of Jesus Christ.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Let\u2019s talk about money because values are actually expressed in how we spend our money.\u00a0 You ladies undoubtedly have a Kingdom mindset around your money.\u00a0 You think about giving and wanting giving to be a part of what you\u2019re passing on to your kids so they see your family being a part of generosity, tithing, an offering\u2014you know, the things that Paul exhorted Timothy to.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, support the church, support the missionaries, help advance the Kingdom.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 How do you handle that when you disagree?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 There was a point in my marriage where the issue came up.\u00a0 I wanted to tithe.\u00a0 I wasn\u2019t in a job at the time.\u00a0 I was staying at home with our girls, and I wanted to be at home with them.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t feel right just giving to the church, without talking to my husband about it.\u00a0 It was an area of friction.\u00a0 Again, what I wanted to give, he was having trouble with.\u00a0 He didn\u2019t feel comfortable giving to church.\u00a0 That was an issue for him.\u00a0 It was something he didn\u2019t believe in and he didn\u2019t support\u2014so, it was a struggle for him.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAt the time, I was reading <em>The Wonderful, Spirit-Filled Life <\/em>by Charles Stanley.\u00a0 He gave a wonderful example in that book about when you have these issues that come up in relationships\u2014that are an issue that you need to work out.\u00a0 You write it on an index card, and you bring it before God.\u00a0 I did what he said in the book.\u00a0 The whole point of it was to hold this issue, and it\u2019s like you\u2019re putting it on the altar.\u00a0 You\u2019re saying, \u201cGod, I am willing to let go of this and put it before You.\u00a0 Whatever Your will is, is what I want.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI went before God and prayed about it.\u00a0 I felt God impress upon me to speak to my husband and ask for what amount he was comfortable with to give to the church.\u00a0 Whatever that was, I was to accept.\u00a0 I went to my husband and I said, \u201cOkay, I would like to give something to my church each month.\u00a0 What amount are you comfortable with?\u00a0 Whatever that is, I\u2019m fine with.\u201d\u00a0 He gave me an amount that was even more than I was secretly hoping for!\u00a0 [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou know, it just showed me again, if we leave it in God\u2019s hands, He works it out.\u00a0 Whether or not your spouse believes, He\u2019s in there working and will surprise you if you just let go.\u00a0 Let God be the one leading, and let Him do it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Lynn, you have a story around that whole idea of the surprise of God.\u00a0 Your husband Mike gave you the gift of a garden; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lynn:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right, yes.\u00a0 About four years ago, we redid our backyard.\u00a0 We ripped out the grass.\u00a0 For a gift, he allowed me to put in a vegetable garden, which I never thought I would love to garden, but I do.\u00a0 We hired a contractor, and his name was Joe.\u00a0 Joe shows up.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t know, at the time when we hired him\u2014you know\u2014he was a Christian!\u00a0 The first day, he gets out in the backyard and plugs in the radio.\u00a0 Christian radio was just blaring in the backyard.\u00a0 [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI am going, \u201cOh boy, my husband is going to freak out over this!\u201d\u00a0 I am like secretly going, \u201cYes!\u00a0 Go, Joe!\u201d\u00a0 The neighbors\u2014you know, he is blasting it out there!\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 For two weeks, Joe\u2014he cannot contain his Christian love and his Christlikeness.\u00a0 He even prayed with one other contractor in the backyard for him to come to Christ.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s the last day of the job, and Joe is packing up to leave.\u00a0 We head out to the front yard.\u00a0 We are standing out on our driveway, in the middle of our neighborhood.\u00a0 Joe looks at my husband Mike and he goes, \u201cI was once like you.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t believe.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t need God.\u201d\u00a0 He kind of tells his story about his wife praying for him.\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 He said, \u201cI was just like you!\u201d\u00a0 He was staring at my husband; and he says, \u201cDo you want to pray with me?\u201d\u00a0 My husband says, \u201cYes!\u201d\u00a0 Joe reaches out, takes my husband\u2019s hands and leads my husband through a prayer of salvation.\u00a0 I was astonished!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI just was amazed that God had orchestrated this whole two-week thing, and Joe praying with my husband.\u00a0 He drove away, and I didn\u2019t know what to say!\u00a0 The next day, I did ask my husband, \u201cSo, what did you think about Joe?\u201d\u00a0 He goes, \u201cWell, I kind of was really surprised.\u00a0 I\u2019m not really sure what that all\u2014if I really mean it.\u201d\u00a0 But I have to tell you, he prayed it.\u00a0 He prayed it sincerely, and I have seen slow changes in my husband over time. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat is so great for us, who are unequally yoked, is we get to see God do those kind of things in our ordinary lives with our spouses to astonish us and tell us God will not give up on our husbands\u2014to encourage us with moments like that to keep praying, to keep living out our faith, to love that man because God loves him so much more than we do.\u00a0 Then, we get to have that front row seat\u2014that\u2019s what I call it\u2014to watch God pound on the heart of our spouse.\u00a0 I am astonished regularly at the lengths our God will go to pursue our men for their lives. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Darla, I\u2019ve got to imagine there are women who are listening who are going, \u201cOkay, so what you\u2019re saying is that if I\u2019m married to an unbelieving spouse, I just need to pray and shut up.\u00a0 Isn\u2019t there something more I can do than pray and shut up?!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh, it is so strange to hear what God has to say on this issue, which is completely against anything a woman will do\u2014and that is to be quiet.\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 It just doesn\u2019t make sense to us because we always believe there is something practical we can do and something that, obviously, our mouths can say.\u00a0 But God has done this before.\u00a0 He has told an entire nation to march around walls and then on the seventh day, blow horns.\u00a0 He has told some strange instructions to other generations before us.\u00a0 These are our strange instructions.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOnce we begin to try that, it really is something that takes time.\u00a0 I think that, very often in today\u2019s generation, everything is so instantaneous that we can\u2019t understand it might take me time to learn to be quiet.\u00a0 It might take me time to learn to trust God with this, \u201cDo I trust God?\u00a0 Do I know God enough?\u00a0 Can I trust Him with this?\u00a0 If I\u2019m silent, will He act?\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 You know, you might want to wake up the second day, third day, thinking, \u201cWell, did God act last night?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong>\u00a0 It does take a lot of time on your part to really invest in understanding who Christ is in your life and letting God now invest in your husband\u2019s life.\u00a0 Very often, we\u2019re holding up the process because we\u2019re manipulating.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes; here\u2019s the way I think a lot of us think\u2014not just women, but a lot of us\u2014we think, \u201cHow can God act if I\u2019m not in control?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And just saying it out loud exposes how silly it is.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u201cHow can God do this if I\u2019m not in control?\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s the point; right?!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 Very well said.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong>\u00a0 Each of the issues that you might include with all of that would be the same\u2014submission\u2014\u201cHow do I submit?\u201d\u00a0 Well, that\u2019s the same concept\u2014letting go and allowing God to give me the strength to do it.\u00a0 Forgiveness\u2014same concept\u2014\u201cDo I trust God enough to hold me and heal me while I forgive?\u201d\u00a0 The same concept of raising a child without your husband\u2019s input, spiritually.\u00a0 \u201cDo I trust God enough to give me the strength to invest in this child by myself?\u201d\u00a0 It is all coming down to, \u201cCan I trust God?\u201d\u00a0 That is what takes time\u2014learning to trust God with any of these issues. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 We\u2019re all on that same journey.\u00a0 Now, I\u2019m not going to suggest that what I\u2019m about to recommend is as strange as marching around the walls of Jericho seven times and then blowing a horn; but I am going to suggest something that may seem almost like, \u201cReally?\u00a0 You would suggest that I invite my spouse to go to a <em>Weekend to Remember<\/em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u2014a marriage getaway that\u2019s based on the Bible?\u00a0 You would encourage me to do that in hopes that perhaps they\u2019ll experience more of marriage according to God\u2019s design, maybe hear a little bit about who God is, and what the plan of salvation is, and how it all works?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI would say, \u201cAbsolutely!\u201d because it\u2019s fun;
