\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong>\u00a0 We very often, as mismatched wives, begin to think of our husbands as the enemy.\u00a0 One of the pieces of hope that God gives us is to constantly tell us that our enemy is not flesh and blood and that we have Christ in us\u2014the hope of glory.\u00a0 So, when Christ is in us, Christ is in our marriage.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 This is <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> for Tuesday, December 4<sup>th<\/sup>.\u00a0 Our host is the President of FamilyLife<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, Dennis Rainey, and I'm Bob Lepine.\u00a0 It is possible to be in a spiritually- mismatched marriage and still grow in your relationship with your spouse and your relationship with God.\u00a0 We\u2019ll talk about how to do that today.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd welcome to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>.\u00a0 Thanks for joining us.\u00a0 You\u2019ve shared a number of times with our listeners that when you and Barbara first got married, there were things that you valued and things that she valued.\u00a0 You guys weren\u2019t necessarily on the same page with those values.\u00a0 You had to come together and work that out.\u00a0 You were both committed to Christ; and you still had a clash of values, at that point.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tImagine two people married, where one is committed to trying to live out what the Bible says about how we ought to live and somebody else is going, \u201cNo, I\u2019ve got my own way of how I want to do it.\u201d\u00a0 That values clash is going to be huge!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>It is.\u00a0 Frankly, one of the most heroic things I think that is taking place across our country is spouses who are in marriages where they\u2019re spiritually-mismatched.\u00a0 They don\u2019t share a common faith with their lifetime partner in marriage.\u00a0 Truthfully, I think there\u2019s going to be a lot of heroes in heaven.\u00a0 I think one of the biggest heroes is going to be those spouses who have hung in there, and loved the one they made a covenant with, and raised their children with in the midst of unspeakable differences, and disagreements, and difficult times.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe have three ladies with us who really know what I just said from an experience standpoint.\u00a0 Darla Stone joins us on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>.\u00a0 Darla, welcome back.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong>\u00a0 Thank you very much.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Also, Dineen Miller and Lynn Donovan join \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 Thank you.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lynn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Great to be here.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I didn\u2019t mention that Darla is the author of <em>In Christ Alone<\/em>.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Now, I think we should probably also say that, at some point in the future, we need to have three guys join us who are unequally yoked\u2014guys who are following Christ and their wife isn\u2019t.\u00a0 The fact that we\u2019ve got three ladies here doesn\u2019t mean that we think that it\u2019s all men who are\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014in the back seat in this whole situation.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Dineen, you mentioned earlier that one of the biggest issues with people who find themselves in spiritually-mismatched marriages is feeling alone\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014feeling like they\u2019re the only ones out there.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 When my husband told me his decision, I was crushed!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 His decision?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 He had chosen\u2014he had decided he was an atheist.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Okay.\u00a0 Yes, to hear that, especially as the spiritual lights are coming on in your life, and your husband says, \u201cI\u2019ve decided I don\u2019t believe there\u2019s a God.\u201d\u00a0 It\u2019s kind of like, \u201cWhat do we do now?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 I was\u2014it was hard.\u00a0 I will say that was probably the one time God allowed me to actually hear those groanings of the Holy Spirit that it talks about in Romans 8 because I think there was a serious grieving there.\u00a0 I had to let go and let God show me how to walk this path, but the other side of that was\u2014and I realized with something my husband said\u2014I had to reassure him that I still loved him and still accepted him.\u00a0 <br><br>So, you start this journey\u2014and \u201cHow do you navigate it?\u201d\u00a0 Then, I was in church.\u00a0 All my friends were married to men who went to church.\u00a0 They were Christian couples, and I felt like I was the only one.\u00a0 That\u2019s what we hear a lot from our readers and our blog readers on our ministry site\u2014that that\u2019s the biggest issue.\u00a0 When they find out there are others walking that journey\u2014that\u2019s what makes our spiritually unequal marriage community so strong\u2014is we\u2019re walking this journey together.\u00a0 We\u2019re supporting each other, encouraging each other because that\u2019s the biggest lie that the enemy wants us to hear.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThink about, \u201cYou\u2019re in this place to be an influence on someone whose eternity is in question.\u201d\u00a0 The enemy is going to get in there and mess with you and make you believe that you\u2019re alone, that you\u2019re ineffective, that you\u2019re a failure to keep you from being that influence on that person.\u00a0 When we discover there are others and we can unite together, it\u2019s the beginning of something amazing.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 As you were talking, it occurred to me that atheists and agnostics do not have a great commission.\u00a0 There\u2019s nothing in them that says, \u201cGo into all the world and make disciples of atheism and agnosticism.\u201d\u00a0 Your husbands are fine with you guys living for Jesus.\u00a0 That\u2019s okay with them.\u00a0 They don\u2019t feel any need to try to win you to their position.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 But you guys have both got a great commission ringing in your ears.\u00a0 You\u2019re going, \u201cYes, but I want you to come to know Jesus.\u201d\u00a0 <br><br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You\u2019re raising an issue that I was looking forward to asking all three of you ladies.\u00a0 I\u2019d like each of you to just take a swipe at this.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt would seem to me, if I was in a spiritually-mismatched marriage, that it would be real easy to become totally fixated and focused on how different we are in our views of the world and just constantly be in a state of disappointment and of being negative about how the other person looks at the world, interprets data\u2014everything from a sunrise, to beautiful music, to all kinds of things.\u00a0 How in the world have you ladies kept from being focused on how different you are in your beliefs?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lynn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, I believe that, along with Dineen\u2019s talking about loneliness, it\u2019s Jesus Christ.\u00a0 His love comes into our life, and it is hope!\u00a0 We have hope for their future; we have hope for our marriage.\u00a0 It takes us away from focusing on all the negative and why he\u2019s not at church with you and what\u2014you know, the different decisions you make about raising kids and things like that.\u00a0 When you have the hope of Jesus Christ in you, and His love, and that vibrant relationship that you have\u2014that changes everything!\u00a0 It transforms your life.\u00a0 It transforms your marriage.\u00a0 When we serve the God of hope, we can look at our husband and go, \u201cI am praying for him.\u00a0 I know God.\u00a0 It\u2019s in His will to come to faith, and I need to believe and trust that God is working it out within my life and in his life for salvation.\u00a0 I am not going to focus on everything that\u2019s going to try and tear our marriage apart.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI have to be realistic that we have a different worldview in how we process and make decisions, but I also know that I have God\u2019s wisdom because I pray for that every morning.\u00a0 I pray for wisdom and discernment\u2014God\u2019s wisdom and discernment.\u00a0 That is immensely helpful to navigating disagreements or making decisions with my husband who may not see the world\u2014who I know doesn\u2019t see the world the way I do.\u00a0 It is hope and it\u2019s His love that He pours into us that makes every difference in my marriage for sure.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right; and it\u2019s a perspective, too.\u00a0 I mean, we can choose to look at our spouse as our enemy or as our partner and strive for unity.\u00a0 There\u2019s no reason why we can\u2019t do that.\u00a0 When we focus on the spiritual disparity, then, we\u2019re only focusing on what\u2019s not working.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThere are challenges; but when we\u2014first of all, when we\u2019re keeping our eyes on Christ and looking for Him and for His leading, and how to live our faith, and putting our expectations on Him and not on our husband\u2014and when we\u2019re walking along that, it makes it so much easier, as Lynn said earlier, that it\u2019s freedom.\u00a0 It really is freedom.\u00a0 It frees us to just love and enjoy our husband or wife.\u00a0 It gives them the freedom to know that they are accepted, and they\u2019re loved, and to feel comfortable in the relationship, too, and that they\u2019re not walking on eggshells.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong>\u00a0 We very often, as mismatched wives, begin to think of our husbands as the enemy.\u00a0 One of the pieces of hope that God gives us is to constantly tell us that our enemy is not flesh and blood and that we have Christ in us\u2014the hope of glory.\u00a0 So, when Christ is in us, Christ is in our marriage.\u00a0 We have those promises of God that help us to make that shift\u2014if we\u2019re able to through the Holy Spirit\u2014to make that shift away from thinking of our husband and the current issue at hand as the enemy, then, we\u2019re able to shift toward a more positive reaction or positive statement to say that would bring hope into the marriage.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 At the same time, you stop and think about very practical issues.\u00a0 Kids come along\u2014you talked about, \u201cHow are we going to parent these kids?\u201d\u00a0 Well, I\u2019m thinking about spiritual discipleship.\u00a0 You\u2019re on two different pages.\u00a0 Is he okay with you teaching your kids Bible stories?\u00a0 Is he teaching them something different at night?\u00a0 Then, there\u2019s the whole moral value thing about, \u201cThat\u2019s okay for the kids to watch these movies.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cNo, it\u2019s not!\u201d\u00a0 I mean, how do you\u2014have you had to deal with some of that kind of stuff?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, we do.\u00a0 When my girls were little and I had made this decision, my husband agreed that I could take them to church as long as when they were old enough to make their own decision, I would let them make it.\u00a0 I agreed, and we went on that basis.\u00a0 I took the kids to church.\u00a0 My daughters are now 18 and 22, and they both know Jesus.\u00a0 My oldest is about to get married next year.\u00a0 She is engaged to an amazing, godly, young man.\u00a0 Those prayers were heard.\u00a0 God is so faithful, but we dealt with the question.\u00a0 We dealt with it respectfully.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut there are times when we get questions in our ministry where it\u2019s very difficult\u2014the situation is very different and\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, that\u2019s what I want to toss your way.\u00a0 What if a husband says, \u201cNo, I don\u2019t want you to take them to church\u201d?\u00a0 <br>\u00a0\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s where it gets really dicey.\u00a0 I actually have a friend who\u2019s dealing with that right now.\u00a0 She and I are praying.\u00a0 She can\u2019t do anything about it but pray.\u00a0 He\u2019s made the decision that they can\u2019t go to church with her.\u00a0 So, she faithfully goes to church still on Sundays.\u00a0 She and I are praying together that God will soften his heart and allow her to take them to church again.\u00a0 We\u2019re holding hope, and we know God will come through.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong>\u00a0 The other thing I would say, too, is that we\u2019re to teach our children about God when we\u2019re sitting down, lying down\u2014from Deuteronomy, I believe.\u00a0 When we do that, it can be done without formal church attendance.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You can disciple your kids, whether you are taking them to church or not.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lynn:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s exactly right.\u00a0 You can do that respectfully and very humbly.\u00a0 I love to tell the story about my prayer mobile.\u00a0 I drove my daughter to school for many years.\u00a0 I thrilled to do that.\u00a0 I know a lot of times parents think, \u201cOh, I don\u2019t want to drive my kids.\u201d\u00a0 If you have the chance to drive your kids and pick them up from school, <em>take advantage<\/em> of that moment that you have them in the car.\u00a0 I would\u2014my daughter would get in the car.\u00a0 We\u2019d be driving off to school.\u00a0 I would just simply reach over, put my hand on her knee, and I\u2019d say, \u201cLet\u2019s pray,\u201d\u2014simple, everyday prayers.\u00a0 I was modeling prayer to her in everyday life.\u00a0 It wasn\u2019t threatening to her dad.\u00a0 I was passing along my faith to her in a very simple moment\u2014teachable moments.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen those come in a spiritually-mismatched marriage, you need to drop what you\u2019re doing and grab hold of them because they only last a few moments; but they can be so powerful.\u00a0 You can do it very respectfully with dad\u2014you know, and just say\u2014they get to see faith in action in their mom.\u00a0 That is also part of the 1 Peter principle.\u00a0 It\u2019s your actions that are going to speak loudly to your children.\u00a0 They see that you love Jesus.\u00a0 It\u2019s contagious!\u00a0 They cannot help it, and my daughter has a vibrant love relationship with Jesus Christ.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Lynn, you had a\u2014well, I guess a point of battle with your husband around the choice of schools.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lynn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh, we did.\u00a0 I was convinced when she was going to start kindergarten that I could put her into a private, Christian school.\u00a0 I\u2019d put her into daycare, and I\u2019d always handled that.\u00a0 We were sitting over the kitchen table one morning.\u00a0 I was talking about enrolling her.\u00a0 He was like, \u201cShe is not going a Christian school.\u00a0 I want her in public school.\u201d\u00a0 To say I was devastated, well, it was an understatement; but I chose, at that moment, to be submissive.\u00a0 I respected my husband, and I enrolled her in public school.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 No, no, no.\u00a0 Let\u2019s go back to the conversation.\u00a0 What did you say to him, at that point?\u00a0 I mean, take us to the kitchen, after you got over the stun.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lynn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, I looked like a deer in headlights, I can tell you, when I am staring at him; and I\u2019m hardly ever one without words.\u00a0 I don\u2019t think I said anything, honestly.\u00a0 I was like, \u201cOkay.\u201d\u00a0 Then, I think I went and cried later; but I told him\u2014I don\u2019t know exactly when I told him\u2014that I would respect him.\u00a0 This was one area he was not going to bend to what I wanted in this.\u00a0 I understood, and this was very early in our marriage.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI decided I needed to trust God that He would take care of my daughter, even in public school\u2014that He would equip me to pass along to her what she needed, that she would even not only be okay there, but she would thrive and be one person that would bring faith into a public school.\u00a0 God has been so faithful in that.\u00a0 Now, here we are.\u00a0 We\u2019re looking at colleges.\u00a0 It\u2019s going to be really neat to see.\u00a0 It\u2019s her turn to choose.\u00a0 We\u2019ve been looking at both state colleges as well as private, Christian colleges.\u00a0 It\u2019s her turn to choose.\u00a0 I hope to be able to come back in a year and let you know what she chose.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut you know what?\u00a0 It\u2019s been\u2014that\u2019s part of the give and take in any marriage.\u00a0 You will have conflict; but with the spiritual component, it\u2019s\u2014sometimes, it\u2019s just very gut- wrenching.\u00a0 That was a hard thing for me to lay down my wishes.\u00a0 In the book, we talk about there are times to stand up for what you believe.\u00a0 There are things that you cannot cross the line on\u2014sin and some things.\u00a0 Then, there is the time to just love them and\u2014\u201cIt is stand up or shut up.\u201d\u00a0 Sometimes, we need to just shut up, as women, and let\u2014and respect our husbands and be that word, \u201csubmissive\u201d; but it\u2019s really about respect.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, there are other times that\u2014like for example, media.\u00a0 There is some television I will not watch.\u00a0 My husband knows that, and I don\u2019t try to brow beat him about it.\u00a0 I will just respectfully say, \u201cYou know, this isn\u2019t for me.\u201d\u00a0 I get up, and I leave the room.\u00a0 Those are the same examples we set for our children.\u00a0 We can say, \u201cYou know, Honey, this show is not really good for you, and this is why,\u201d even though Dad may not object\u2014and my daughter has been so great to listen to those messages.\u00a0 She hears them and she\u2019ll step out of the room, too, if there\u2019s something that she doesn\u2019t want to watch.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Dineen, both you and Darla referenced this as we were talking about this.\u00a0 Both of you talked about having somebody you could call\u2014a\u00a0 prayer partner, other moms, other women, maybe people in the same situation, maybe not.\u00a0 A woman who is in\u2014or a man, for that matter\u2014in a spiritually-mismatched marriage needs community\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014to be able to make\u2014if you try to do this solo, you\u2019ll get drained quickly; won\u2019t you?\u00a0 <br><br><strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, you will because you inevitably will fall back on your own power to try to do it.\u00a0 Plus, we can\u2019t stand alone in our faith.\u00a0 We really need community.\u00a0 Paul was dead on when he said\u2014you know, encouraged us to continue to meet together.\u00a0 It\u2019s not because we have to do it; it\u2019s because we need it.\u00a0 We need one another to stay strong in our faith.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tFor me, when I\u2014we were living in Europe at the time\u2014and I was totally shocked to be in an international church, with representations of almost 40 different countries, to find out there was already a group meeting there for the spiritually-mismatched.\u00a0 They were called the 1 Peter 3 group.\u00a0\u00a0 They were very discreet.\u00a0 They didn\u2019t broadcast it; but when they found out that I was there, I was approached and invited to join the group.\u00a0 That was the beginning of realizing that I could do this\u2014that I could walk through my marriage in a way that would honor God and would help my husband\u2014that I could be a helper to him still, and not hinder him, and still grow in my faith, and still raise my children to know who God is.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tJust to have that\u2014it was amazing\u2014to either have a group or a mentor to come alongside you to walk that path with you and keep encouraging you and keeping your eyes upward because it\u2019s easy to look down.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong>\u00a0 That is what is so fantastic about what Lynn and Dineen have done with this online ministry, where it can still be discreet because they\u2019re anonymous.\u00a0 They are writing online, but they\u2019re sharing their heart\u2019s condition with others in this mismatched\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And we\u2019ve got a link on our website at FamilyLifeToday.com so folks can find out more about what\u2019s going on highlighted here.\u00a0 First of all, Second Corinthians, Chapter 1, talks about comforting one another with the comfort you\u2019ve personally received as you\u2019ve suffered.\u00a0 What I\u2019ve heard all of you say is, \u201cIsolation is a killer.\u201d\u00a0 You can\u2019t be isolated.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You\u2019ve got to find some other kindred-spirit spouses\u2014and it would be a same- sex situation.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Lynn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 It would not mix them up.\u00a0 That would not be healthy, at all.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSecondly\u2014and I really admire this about all three of you as you\u2019ve shared it here\u2014you can tell there has been and remains an attitude of respect toward your husband, even when you disagreed.\u00a0 You can get away with a lot if he knows that you respect him and this is not a clash of the wills\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 This is not, \u201cMy way or your way, buddy!\u201d but, \u201cYou\u2019re my husband.\u00a0 I love you.\u00a0 I will respect you.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, third, I also heard this.\u00a0 I wouldn\u2019t want any of those who are in, again, spiritually- mismatched marriages to miss this; but you are the arms of the love of God to your spouse.\u00a0 The Hound of Heaven must be after him or after her because you\u2019re there\u2014you\u2019re in that marriage\u2014we haven\u2019t mentioned the word, but Paul calls it sanctifying your spouse.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 Exactly.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 The believing spouse sanctifies the one who is the unbelieving.\u00a0 You bring God into that marriage; you bring God into that family.\u00a0 You have no idea the impact this is going to have generationally.\u00a0 Yet, we live in a culture today that says, \u201cAhh, toss the towel in,\u201d \u201cTrade him in,\u201d \u201cTrade her in,\u201d \u201cGet a new one,\u201d \u201cGet a better one.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s not the solution.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lynn:<\/strong>\u00a0 No.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Get some people around you, speak with respect, and keep on loving with the love of God.\u00a0 Then, pray and watch the Hound of Heaven chase him down.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, and get some folks around you who can support you in this and who can provide you with some wise got married, there were things that you valued and things that she valued.\u00a0 You guys weren\u2019t necessarily on the same page with those values.\u00a0 You had to come together and work that out.\u00a0 You were both committed to Christ; and you still had a clash of values, at that point.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tImagine two people married, where one is committed to trying to live out what the Bible says about how we ought to live and somebody else is going, \u201cNo, I\u2019ve got my own way of how I want to do it.\u201d\u00a0 That values clash is going to be huge!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>It is.\u00a0 Frankly, one of the most heroic things I think that is taking place across our country is spouses who are in marriages where they\u2019re spiritually-mismatched.\u00a0 They don\u2019t share a common faith with their lifetime partner in marriage.\u00a0 Truthfully, I think there\u2019s going to be a lot of heroes in heaven.\u00a0 I think one of the biggest heroes is going to be those spouses who have hung in there, and loved the one they made a covenant with, and raised their children with in the midst of unspeakable differences, and disagreements, and difficult times.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe have three \u2014feeling like they\u2019re the only ones out there.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 When my husband told me his decision, I was crushed!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 His decision?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 He had chosen\u2014he had decided he was an atheist.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Okay.\u00a0 Yes, to hear that, especially as the spiritual lights are coming on in your life, and your husband says, \u201cI\u2019ve decided I don\u2019t believe there\u2019s a God.\u201d\u00a0 It\u2019s kind of like, \u201cWhat do we do now?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 I was\u2014it was hard.\u00a0 I will say that was probably the one time God allowed me to actually hear those groanings of the Holy Spirit that it talks about in Romans 8 because I think there was a serious grieving there.\u00a0 I had to let go and let God show me how to walk this path, but the other side of that was\u2014and I realized with something my husband said\u2014I had to reassure him that I still loved him and still accepted him.\u00a0 <br><br>So, you start this journey\u2014and \u201cHow do you navigate it?\u201d\u00a0 Then, I was in church.\u00a0 All my friends were married to men who went to church.\u00a0 They were Christian couples, and I felt like I was the only one.\u00a0 That\u2019s what we hear a lot from our readers and our blog readers on our ministry site\u2014that that\u2019s the biggest issue.\u00a0 When they find out there are others walking that journey\u2014that\u2019s what makes our spiritually unequal marriage community so strong\u2014is we\u2019re walking this journey together.\u00a0 We\u2019re supporting each other, encouraging each other because that\u2019s the biggest lie that the enemy wants us to hear.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThink about, \u201cYou\u2019re in this place to be an influence on someone whose eternity is in question.\u201d\u00a0 The enemy is going to get in there and mess with you and make you believe that you\u2019re alone, that you\u2019re ineffective, that you\u2019re a failure to keep you from being that influence on that person.\u00a0 When we discover there are others and we can unite together, it\u2019s the beginning of something amazing.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 As you were talking, it occurred to me that atheists and agnostics do not have a great commission.\u00a0 There\u2019s nothing in them that says, \u201cGo into all the world and make disciples of atheism and agnosticism.\u201d\u00a0 Your husbands are fine with you guys living for Jesus.\u00a0 That\u2019s okay with them.\u00a0 They don\u2019t feel any need to try to win you to their position.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 But you guys have both got a great commission ringing in your ears.\u00a0 You\u2019re going, \u201cYes, but I want you to come to know Jesus.\u201d\u00a0 <br><br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You\u2019re raising an issue that I was looking forward to asking all three of you ladies.\u00a0 I\u2019d like each of you to just take a swipe at this.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt would seem to me, if I was in a spiritually-mismatched marriage, that it would be real easy to become totally fixated and focused on how different we are in our views of the world and just constantly be in a state of disappointment and of being negative about how the other person looks at the world, interprets data\u2014everything from a sunrise, to beautiful music, to all kinds of things.\u00a0 How in the world have you ladies kept from being focused on how different you are in your beliefs?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lynn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, I believe that, along with Dineen\u2019s talking about loneliness, it\u2019s Jesus Christ.\u00a0 His love comes into our life, and it is hope!\u00a0 We have hope for their future; we have hope for our marriage.\u00a0 It takes us away from focusing on all the negative and why he\u2019s not at church with you and what\u2014you know, the different decisions you make about raising kids and things like that.\u00a0 When you have the hope of Jesus Christ in you, and His love, and that vibrant relationship that you have\u2014that changes everything!\u00a0 It transforms your life.\u00a0 It transforms your marriage.\u00a0 When we serve the God of hope, we can look at our husband and go, \u201cI am praying for him.\u00a0 I know God.\u00a0 It\u2019s in His will to come to faith, and I need to believe and trust that God is working it out within my life and in his life for salvation.\u00a0 I am not going to focus on everything that\u2019s going to try and tear our marriage apart.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI have to be realistic that we have a different worldview in how we process and make decisions, but I also know that I have God\u2019s wisdom because I pray for that every morning.\u00a0 I pray for wisdom and discernment\u2014God\u2019s wisdom and discernment.\u00a0 That is immensely helpful to navigating disagreements or making decisions with my husband who may not see the world\u2014who I know doesn\u2019t see the world the way I do.\u00a0 It is hope and it\u2019s His love that He pours into us that makes every difference in my marriage for sure.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right; and it\u2019s a perspective, too.\u00a0 I mean, we can choose to look at our spouse as our enemy or as our partner and strive for unity.\u00a0 There\u2019s no reason why we can\u2019t do that.\u00a0 When we focus on the spiritual disparity, then, we\u2019re only focusing on what\u2019s not working.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThere are challenges; but when we\u2014first of all, when we\u2019re keeping our eyes on Christ and looking for Him and for His leading, and how to live our faith, and putting our expectations on Him and not on our husband\u2014and when we\u2019re walking along that, it makes it so much easier, as Lynn said earlier, that it\u2019s freedom.\u00a0 It really is freedom.\u00a0 It frees us to just love and enjoy our husband or wife.\u00a0 It gives them the freedom to know that they are accepted, and they\u2019re loved, and to feel comfortable in the relationship, too, and that they\u2019re not walking on eggshells.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong>\u00a0 We very often, as mismatched wives, begin to think of our husbands as the enemy.\u00a0 One of the pieces of hope that God gives us is to constantly tell us that our enemy is not flesh and blood and that we have Christ in us\u2014the hope of glory.\u00a0 So, when Christ is in us, Christ is in our marriage.\u00a0 We have those promises of God that help us to make that shift\u2014if we\u2019re able to through the Holy Spirit\u2014to make that shift away from thinking of our husband and the current issue at hand as the enemy, then, we\u2019re able to shift toward a more positive reaction or positive statement to say that would bring hope into the marriage.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 At the same time, you stop and think about very practical issues.\u00a0 Kids come along\u2014you talked about, \u201cHow are we going to parent these kids?\u201d\u00a0 Well, I\u2019m thinking about spiritual discipleship.\u00a0 You\u2019re on two different pages.\u00a0 Is he okay with you teaching your kids Bible stories?\u00a0 Is he teaching them something different at night?\u00a0 Then, there\u2019s the whole moral value thing about, \u201cThat\u2019s okay for the kids to watch these movies.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cNo, it\u2019s not!\u201d\u00a0 I mean, how do you\u2014have you had to deal with some of that kind of stuff?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, we do.\u00a0 When my girls were little and I had made this decision, my husband agreed that I could take them to church as long as when they were old enough to make their own decision, I would let them make it.\u00a0 I agreed, and we went on that basis.\u00a0 I took the kids to church.\u00a0 My daughters are now 18 and 22, and they both know Jesus.\u00a0 My oldest is about to get married next year.\u00a0 She is engaged to an amazing, godly, young man.\u00a0 Those prayers were heard.\u00a0 God is so faithful, but we dealt with the question.\u00a0 We dealt with it respectfully.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut there are times when we get questions in our ministry where it\u2019s very difficult\u2014the situation is very different and\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, that\u2019s what I want to toss your way.\u00a0 What if a husband says, \u201cNo, I don\u2019t want you to take them to church\u201d?\u00a0 <br>\u00a0\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s where it gets really dicey.\u00a0 I actually have a friend who\u2019s dealing with that right now.\u00a0 She and I are praying.\u00a0 She can\u2019t do anything about it but pray.\u00a0 He\u2019s made the decision that they can\u2019t go to church with her.\u00a0 So, she faithfully goes to church still on Sundays.\u00a0 She and I are praying together that God will soften his heart and allow her to take them to church again.\u00a0 We\u2019re holding hope, and we know God will come through.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong>\u00a0 The other thing I would say, too, is that we\u2019re to teach our children about God when we\u2019re sitting down, lying down\u2014from Deuteronomy, I believe.\u00a0 When we do that, it can be done without formal church attendance.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You can disciple your kids, whether you are taking them to church or not.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lynn:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s exactly right.\u00a0 You can do that respectfully and very humbly.\u00a0 I love to tell the story about my prayer mobile.\u00a0 I drove my daughter to school for many years.\u00a0 I thrilled to do that.\u00a0 I know a lot of times parents think, \u201cOh, I don\u2019t want to drive my kids.\u201d\u00a0 If you have the chance to drive your kids and pick them up from school, <em>take advantage<\/em> of that moment that you have them in the car.\u00a0 I would\u2014my daughter would get in the car.\u00a0 We\u2019d be driving off to school.\u00a0 I would just simply reach over, put my hand on her knee, and I\u2019d say, \u201cLet\u2019s pray,\u201d\u2014simple, everyday prayers.\u00a0 I was modeling prayer to her in everyday life.\u00a0 It wasn\u2019t threatening to her dad.\u00a0 I was passing along my faith to her in a very simple moment\u2014teachable moments.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen those come in a spiritually-mismatched marriage, you need to drop what you\u2019re doing and grab hold of them because they only last a few moments; but they can be so powerful.\u00a0 You can do it very respectfully with dad\u2014you know, and just say\u2014they get to see faith in action in their mom.\u00a0 That is also part of the 1 Peter principle.\u00a0 It\u2019s your actions that are going to speak loudly to your children.\u00a0 They see that you love Jesus.\u00a0 It\u2019s contagious!\u00a0 They cannot help it, and my daughter has a vibrant love relationship with Jesus Christ.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Lynn, you had a\u2014well, I guess a point of battle with your husband around the choice of schools.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lynn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh, we did.\u00a0 I was convinced when she was going to start kindergarten that I could put her into a private, Christian school.\u00a0 I\u2019d put her into daycare, and I\u2019d always handled that.\u00a0 We were sitting over the kitchen table one morning.\u00a0 I was talking about enrolling her.\u00a0 He was like, \u201cShe is not going a Christian school.\u00a0 I want her in public school.\u201d\u00a0 To say I was devastated, well, it was an understatement; but I chose, at that moment, to be submissive.\u00a0 I respected my husband, and I enrolled her in public school.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 No, no, no.\u00a0 Let\u2019s go back to the conversation.\u00a0 What did you say to him, at that point?\u00a0 I mean, take us to the kitchen, after you got over the stun.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lynn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, I looked like a deer in headlights, I can tell you, when I am staring at him; and I\u2019m hardly ever one without words.\u00a0 I don\u2019t think I said anything, honestly.\u00a0 I was like, \u201cOkay.\u201d\u00a0 Then, I think I went and cried later; but I told him\u2014I don\u2019t know exactly when I told him\u2014that I would respect him.\u00a0 This was one area he was not going to bend to what I wanted in this.\u00a0 I understood, and this was very early in our marriage.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI decided I needed to trust God that He would take care of my daughter, even in public school\u2014that He would equip me to pass along to her what she needed, that she would even not only be okay there, but she would thrive and be one person that would bring faith into a public school.\u00a0 God has been so faithful in that.\u00a0 Now, here we are.\u00a0 We\u2019re looking at colleges.\u00a0 It\u2019s going to be really neat to see.\u00a0 It\u2019s her turn to choose.\u00a0 We\u2019ve been looking at both state colleges as well as private, Christian colleges.\u00a0 It\u2019s her turn to choose.\u00a0 I hope to be able to come back in a year and let you know what she chose.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut you know what?\u00a0 It\u2019s been\u2014that\u2019s part of the give and take in any marriage.\u00a0 You will have conflict; but with the spiritual component, it\u2019s\u2014sometimes, it\u2019s just very gut- wrenching.\u00a0 That was a hard thing for me to lay down my wishes.\u00a0 In the book, we talk about there are times to stand up for what you believe.\u00a0 There are things that you cannot cross the line on\u2014sin and some things.\u00a0 Then, there is the time to just love them and\u2014\u201cIt is stand up or shut up.\u201d\u00a0 Sometimes, we need to just shut up, as women, and let\u2014and respect our husbands and be that word, \u201csubmissive\u201d; but it\u2019s really about respect.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, there are other times that\u2014like for example, media.\u00a0 There is some television I will not watch.\u00a0 My husband knows that, and I don\u2019t try to brow beat him about it.\u00a0 I will just respectfully say, \u201cYou know, this isn\u2019t for me.\u201d\u00a0 I get up, and I leave the room.\u00a0 Those are the same examples we set for our children.\u00a0 We can say, \u201cYou know, Honey, this show is not really good for you, and this is why,\u201d even though Dad may not object\u2014and my daughter has been so great to listen to those messages.\u00a0 She hears them and she\u2019ll step out of the room, too, if there\u2019s something that she doesn\u2019t want to watch.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Dineen, both you and Darla referenced this as we were talking about this.\u00a0 Both of you talked about having somebody you could call\u2014a\u00a0 prayer partner, other moms, other women, maybe people in the same situation, maybe not.\u00a0 A woman who is in\u2014or a man, for that matter\u2014in a spiritually-mismatched marriage needs community\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014to be able to make\u2014if you try to do this solo, you\u2019ll get drained quickly; won\u2019t you?\u00a0 <br><br><strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, you will because you inevitably will fall back on your own power to try to do it.\u00a0 Plus, we can\u2019t stand alone in our faith.\u00a0 We really need community.\u00a0 Paul was dead on when he said\u2014you know, encouraged us to continue to meet together.\u00a0 It\u2019s not because we have to do it; it\u2019s because we need it.\u00a0 We need one another to stay strong in our faith.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tFor me, when I\u2014we were living in Europe at the time\u2014and I was totally shocked to be in an international church, with representations of almost 40 different countries, to find out there was already a group meeting there for the spiritually-mismatched.\u00a0 They were called the 1 Peter 3 group.\u00a0\u00a0 They were very discreet.\u00a0 They didn\u2019t broadcast it; but when they found out that I was there, I was approached and invited to join the group.\u00a0 That was the beginning of realizing that I could do this\u2014that I could walk through my marriage in a way that would honor God and would help my husband\u2014that I could be a helper to him still, and not hinder him, and still grow in my faith, and still raise my children to know who God is.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tJust to have that\u2014it was amazing\u2014to either have a group or a mentor to come alongside you to walk that path with you and keep encouraging you and keeping your eyes upward because it\u2019s easy to look down.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong>\u00a0 That is what is so fantastic about what Lynn and Dineen have done with this online ministry, where it can still be discreet because they\u2019re anonymous.\u00a0 They are writing online, but they\u2019re sharing their heart\u2019s condition with others in this heard all of you say is, \u201cIsolation is a killer.\u201d\u00a0 You can\u2019t be isolated.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You\u2019ve got to find some other kindred-spirit spouses\u2014and it would be a same- sex situation.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Lynn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 It would not mix them up.\u00a0 That would not be healthy, at all.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSecondly\u2014and I really admire this about all three of you as you\u2019ve shared it here\u2014you can tell there has been and remains an attitude of respect toward your husband, even when you disagreed.\u00a0 You can get away with a lot if he knows that you respect him and this is not a clash of the wills\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 This is not, \u201cMy way or your way, buddy!\u201d but, \u201cYou\u2019re my husband.\u00a0 I love you.\u00a0 I will respect you.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, third, I also heard this.\u00a0 I wouldn\u2019t want any of those who are in, again, spiritually- mismatched marriages to miss this; but you are the arms of the love of God to your spouse.\u00a0 The Hound of Heaven must be after him or after her because you\u2019re there\u2014you\u2019re in that marriage\u2014we haven\u2019t mentioned the word, but Paul calls it sanctifying your spouse.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dineen:<\/strong>\u00a0 Exactly.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Darla:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 The believing spouse sanctifies the one who is the unbelieving.\u00a0 You bring God into that marriage; you bring God into that family.\u00a0 You have no idea the impact this is going to have generationally.\u00a0 Yet, we live in a culture today that says, \u201cAhh, toss the towel in,\u201d \u201cTrade him in,\u201d \u201cTrade her in,\u201d \u201cGet a new one,\u201d \u201cGet a better one.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s not the solution.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lynn:<\/strong>\u00a0 No.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Get some people around you, speak with respect, and keep on loving with the love of God.\u00a0 Then, pray and watch the Hound of Heaven chase him down.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, and get some folks around you who can support you in this and who can provide you with some wise counsel.\u00a0 That\u2019s where I think the books you ladies have written can come in.\u00a0 They can be\u2014they can be encouragement but, also, wise counsel for those who are living in a Through counseling, God is beginning to draw me through; and I just wanted to write this to encourage you to continue discussing this subject.\u00a0 There are more people than you might imagine who need to hear the message that you presented with such love.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou get a note like that from a listener, and you\u2019re humbled.\u00a0 You\u2019re grateful to God for the way He is at work through this ministry; but part of the dilemma we\u2019re facing right now is that we have seen this year a dramatic decline in donations from radio listeners.\u00a0 As a result, over the last several months, we\u2019ve had to make some cuts.\u00a0 We\u2019ve had to pull back on some things that we were moving forward on and had to put some projects on hold.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe good news is, here at yearend, we\u2019ve had some folks step forward.\u00a0 They\u2019ve agreed to match every donation we receive in December on a dollar-for-dollar basis\u2014up to a total of $3 million.\u00a0 We\u2019re hearing that that number may increase in the days ahead because there are other folks who are saying, \u201cI want to be a
