but, Judy, you and your husband travel with teams that go into cities or into rural areas and show this to folks.\u00a0 Is that right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>We do some of that, as well, as working with the national directors\u2014helping them strategize and how best to reach their countries.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You were showing this film in the Caribbean?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>That's right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 On a spiritual mission, with your husband\u2014evangelizing the lost\u2014when you had the enticement of the forbidden.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>That's right.\u00a0 The unthinkable happened in our marriage.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You\u2019re traveling, by boat, from island to island, throughout the Caribbean?\u00a0 This sounds like a four-month-long honeymoon, with your husband.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Well, it should have been; but it didn't quite turn out that way.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0What happened?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>When I actually was preparing for the project, we had just come back from a very difficult translation project in India.\u00a0 I came back exhausted.\u00a0 It was a challenge doing that project\u2014and had to turn right around and immediately begin preparing for this boat project\u2014which, logistically, was quite difficult to put together.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI was working very long hours, working late at night.\u00a0 I would get up in the morning\u2014and to maximize my time\u2014I started skipping time with the Lord because we were on this deadline to get this thing done.\u00a0\u00a0 When I arrived at the project in the Caribbean, I arrived with somewhat of a hardened heart, spiritually, because I just had not kept my relationship with the Lord current.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen I arrived there, it didn't take long to realize that there was a real draw\u2014and an enticement\u2014between the captain of this boat and myself.\u00a0 It was very obvious that we had quite a connection.\u00a0 He was athletic; I'm athletic.\u00a0 He was a former professional musician; so am I; and so forth.\u00a0 We just began spending a lot of time, talking personally.\u00a0 It was apparent, very quickly, that there was a real emotional connection between the two of us.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You mentioned being spiritually-vulnerable\u2014at having not spent time with the Lord\u2014not been in the Word.\u00a0 You were also physically exhausted. Those two things, going together, had your defenses down; didn\u2019t they?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong>\u00a0 Not only down\u2014about obliterated my defenses!\u00a0 [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 When you met him and\u2014I mean, I\u2019ve done this; right?\u00a0 You meet somebody and you go, \u201cWell, she\u2019s attractive,\u201d\u2014sparkle in her eye.\u00a0 She smiles; and you go, \u201cShe seems like a nice lady.\u201d\u00a0 I\u2019m sure you were having those thoughts.\u00a0 There\u2019s something very different between having a thought like that and having a desire awakened in you. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s true; and because I sensed that there was such a connection between us and chose to ignore what the Holy Spirit was telling me with red flags, bells going off, sirens, everything in my spirit\u2014I just continued to allow that relationship to grow\u2014and right before my unsuspecting husband\u2014really began spending a lot of time allowing my heart to be knit to this captain because of spending all that individual time.\u00a0 There were things I should have done\u2014that I know, now, in hindsight, are great protectors for our marriage\u2014but I chose not to do that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 What did you do?\u00a0 Did you go out of your way to try to find times to spend with him?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>I did.\u00a0 We needed to work one-on-one a lot on the project, anyway\u2014just on the sailing itinerary and so forth\u2014but I would spend all my extra time just sitting and talking with him about our background in music.\u00a0 We went scuba diving together.\u00a0 We would swim together\u2014do just a lot of individual things together.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI would sometimes send Stottler off with the film team, at night, saying, \"I'm too tired.\u00a0 I've been working so hard.\u00a0 Why don't you take them?\"\u00a0 Then, I would just spend the time on the boat; and \u201cOh, the captain happens to be on the boat, too\u2014my; my.\u201d\u00a0 But, internally, I knew what I was doing.\u00a0 I knew I was trying to further this relationship.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0Was the captain a believer?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>He was, but not a real strong believer.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 He must have sensed, early on, the same kind of connection that you sensed.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>He did.\u00a0 When I made my feelings known, he told me that he felt like I was untouchable because of my husband.\u00a0 He had a great respect for Stottler, and rightly so; but when I let him know that the doors were potentially open, then he responded more favorably.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 How did you let him know your doors were open?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Well, somewhere towards the end of the project, I was in the Caribbean by myself.\u00a0 We had actually traveled back and forth, quite a bit, from California.\u00a0 Sometimes, I would return by myself.\u00a0 Sometimes, Stottler and I would both come.\u00a0 This particular trip, I came on my own.\u00a0 We were in a beautiful port in Guadalupe, a charming little port.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, it was romantic.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh, it was absolutely romantic.\u00a0 The whole project was romantic.\u00a0 You\u2019re in the middle of sun, and sand, and sin.\u00a0 It\u2019s a perfect place for a setup like this, but we were in Guadalupe.\u00a0 It was the middle of the day.\u00a0 We were on the boat by ourselves, and I had just revealed to him how I had been feeling and wanted to know if he felt anything the same.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 How had you been feeling?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>I told him I was incredibly attracted to him, and that I was really interested in possibly pursuing something with him, and wanted to know how he felt.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And what did you mean, \"...pursue something with him\"?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>I just was leaving the door open for his response; but in my own heart, at that point, I was really, potentially, considering not returning home to my husband.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, bagging your marriage\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>That's right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong><strong>\u2014<\/strong>bagging the ministry, and running off with\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>\u00a0\u2014with a sailor, in the Caribbean!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>With a sailor, in the Caribbean.\u00a0 What led you to that point?\u00a0 I mean\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Yes, it's amazing that someone could get to that point\u2014who is in full-time work and has devoted their whole life to seeing the Gospel furthered and so forth.\u00a0 It really comes down to just a hardened heart, spiritually.\u00a0 Once\u2014I believe, once a woman or a man\u2014but I know, for a woman\u2014once we begin pursuing that kind of relationship, spiritually, we just become harder and harder.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe emotions are so incredibly strong and the desire to be with this person\u2014it's like you're in love, all over again\u2014like what you experienced when you first met your husband.\u00a0 Those emotions are so incredibly powerful.\u00a0 You will do almost anything to be with that person, and reason is gone.\u00a0 You become like an addict, in one sense. You will do anything that it takes to be with that individual.\u00a0 The sanity of what you're doing\u2014it doesn't make any sense to anyone else\u2014but you are willing to do whatever it takes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0As you look back on it, Judy, how much of what you were feeling toward this other person\u2014how much of it had to do with who he was, and how much of it was just the fantasy of the forbidden?\u00a0 The reason I ask that is because, most of the time, when there is this draw to another person, we\u2019re not stopping and thinking about what it would be like if we had bills to pay\u2014what would it be like to live with this person, in real life.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI mean, here, you are\u2014in a boat, in the Caribbean, for four months.\u00a0 I could fall in love with a lot of people on a boat in the Caribbean for four months. It doesn't matter who the person is.\u00a0 It's just that life seems so wonderful, that if\u2014it is almost a fantasy.\u00a0 It's not like you're really drawn to the real person.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>That's true.\u00a0 I was partly drawn to him and the connection that we had\u2014being similar backgrounds and similar interests\u2014but it is a fantasy, too\u2014because when we don't expose these kinds of things, essentially, to the light\u2014and I talk about telling your husband, as a great way to nip this in the bud\u2014but when I didn't expose it, I could just, internally, fantasize all I wanted and create a whole scenario that I thought would be perfect.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAt the first, it was a real struggle for me.\u00a0 It was back and forth.\u00a0 You\u2019d feel like you had one foot in heaven and one foot in hell, with the desires going on, internally; but the longer I didn\u2019t respond correctly to that and cut off the relationship\u2014do the things that the Lord was telling me to do\u2014the further my foot got away from heaven and the harder my heart became. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Judy, we left that conversation with the sea captain\u2014with you throwing open the door.\u00a0 You sent the signal.\u00a0 What did he do, at that point?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong>\u00a0 He was very surprised.\u00a0 It took him a while to process; but I called him back, a few days later, when I had gone on to another city.\u00a0 I was, at the point, then, of deciding whether I would stay in the Caribbean and not return home, or to return home\u2014and really laid that before him.\u00a0 He pretty much left it up to me.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 At that point, and it\u2019s clear, in your book, that the relationship had been purely emotional.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You\u2019d enjoyed a lot of great communication but there hadn\u2019t been anything sexual.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong>\u00a0 Nothing physical, whatsoever.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 At that point, when you threw open the door, was there anything physical that took place on his behalf toward you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong>\u00a0 No, nothing.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Did you want there to be?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Absolutely!\u00a0 I believe an emotional affair certainly incites the ideas of what you desire physically but, by God's grace, nothing happened, physically.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I want our listeners to know this is where sexual affairs begin.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong>\u00a0 Absolutely.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 They start in the emotional realm\u2014casually, at first\u2014harmlessly, at first\u2014but they gain momentum until the puppies are all running around in the heart, confusing both the soul and the mind.\u00a0 At that point, it opens the door to much more than just an emotional affair.\u00a0 It can become a full-blown affair.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong>\u00a0 Absolutely and quite easily.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think it\u2019s pretty remarkable, frankly, that an individual who was not particularly spiritually-strong\u2014had some kind of a spiritual background\u2014but you really wonder about his spiritual condition.\u00a0 He\u2019s sitting on the deck of a boat; and a woman says to him, \u201cI\u2019m open.\u201d\u00a0 He says, \u201cWell, I\u2019m going to have to think about that.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>I believe I was surrounded by a whole lot of angels!\u00a0 I really believe the Lord protected me.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You must have been.\u00a0 I mean, how many guys are going to have to think about that?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong>\u00a0 Absolutely.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 When you called him and said, \u201cI\u2019m either staying or going.\u00a0 What\u2019s it going to be?\u201d and he said, \u201cIt\u2019s up to you,\u201d you hung up.\u00a0 What did you do?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, we talked for two hours, and I hung up, and\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Whoa, whoa.\u00a0 What did you talk for two hours about?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think I was really trying to convince him to be more open to this.\u00a0 He kept talking about what an incredible husband I had, and he's right.\u00a0 Again, I believe I was just so protected by the Lord because this could have gone so easily the other way.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 He was trying to talk you out of it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Yes, I would say that he was\u2014in one sense\u2014and leaving the door open in another.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, he was both trolling for you, as well as, pushing you back toward your husband, at the same time.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong>\u00a0 You know, I think both of us really knew what we should do; but it was just a real internal battle for both of us.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 He didn't want to be a marriage-wrecker.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>He said, too\u2014he said, \u201cThe rest of this project would just be a disaster if we pursued this,\u201d and, \u201cWhat would that do with my ministry and all those things, as well?\u201d\u00a0 So, he's a very honorable man in that respect\u2014that he withheld his feelings, as well.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, you hung up and what?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>I hung up and, again, by God's grace, called an accountability partner that I had had for years\u2014set up many years back, in my young Christian life\u2014and told her what was going on.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Why, in the world, did you do that?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>I have no idea.\u00a0 I believe, again, it was just God's grace.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>I mean, at that point, you're deceived!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>That's true.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You're sending your husband off on spiritual missions\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 And you know what your accountability partner is going to tell you when you called her; didn't you?\u00a0 She's not going to call and say, \"Oh, well, gee, it sounds perfect!\"\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>She said she has no idea why I called and asked her to beat me up; but I did!\u00a0 [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0Tell me about that conversation.\u00a0 You get your friend, Holly, on the phone.\u00a0 You say, \"Holly, I need to talk to you.\"\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>That's right.\u00a0 I had told her, actually, a little bit before.\u00a0 She already knew that I had an interest in this man but had no idea how far I had allowed my heart to go.\u00a0 She really gave me a dose of reality in big form\u2014and talked to me about my vows before the Lord, about my ministry, about my husband\u2014just everything I needed to hear.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 But she wasn't telling you anything you didn't already know.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>No, it's true, Bob; but when you get to that point, you really need somebody to awaken in you, again, the reality because you are deceiving yourself.\u00a0 You're closing your heart to what God wants to tell you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Both Bob and I know Holly.\u00a0 Holly is Holly Elliff.\u00a0 She is not just any Christian\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0She speaks the truth in love; doesn't she?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Holly has eight children.\u00a0 She's married to a man who is committed to the Scripture.\u00a0 We've interviewed Holly, here, on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>.\u00a0 Holly is a God-fearing woman of God who doesn't play games.\u00a0 You could have called a lot of people\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014who would have been a lot easier on you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 It would have been a whole lot easier to have called\u2014but you went right into the\u2014you went right into the holy of holies.\u00a0 You called a woman of God!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>That's the truth, and that's what I needed.\u00a0 Holly has been a phenomenal accountability person for me, my whole Christian life, essentially.\u00a0 We had established that relationship from long before.\u00a0 It was really God's grace that had me call her.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Did you feel a boot come through the phone?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Boot?\u00a0 It was more like a knife, and a machete, and a machine gun!\u00a0 [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0How long were you on the phone with Holly?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Probably an hour\u2014hour-and-a-half.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0And when you hung up from that conversation\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>When I hung up\u2014Holly told me, later, that she actually had no idea the direction I was going to go because she said my heart was so far gone, at that point.\u00a0 She really didn't know what I was going to do.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, Bob, my kids used to hate this when I did this to them; but you're going to have to wait for the next edition of <em>FamilyLife Today <\/em>to hear the rest of the story.\u00a0 But I just want to review a couple of things that occurred here.\u00a0 First of all, we had a woman who admitted her heart was growing cold for Christ.\u00a0 She was on a spiritual mission, but she was neglecting to guard her heart.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSecondly, she never thought she would ever find herself in a situation like this.\u00a0 I have to believe there are literally hundreds of thousands of listeners, both single and married, right now, who go, \"No, man!\u00a0 Not me.\u00a0 I would never find myself there.\"\u00a0 That's not the message of Scripture, \"Let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.\"\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThird, she kept moving in toward the heat, that would burn her; but it was, number four, a relationship with a godly woman, that she could trust, that, ultimately, became a life preserver\u2014not only of her marriage\u2014but I think, probably, more importantly, of your faith and of the legacy that you're going to leave.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 I remember a number of years ago when we sat down to have a conversation with author, Jerry Jenkins, who wrote all of the <em>Left Behind<\/em> books.\u00a0 He had written a book called <em>Hedges<\/em>,where he had outlined the steps he and his wife had taken, in their marriage, to preserve their relationship with one another.\u00a0 They had taken some steps.\u00a0 I remember him saying, \u201cI have friends who said, \u2018Boy, this just feels a little legalistic.\u2019\u201d\u00a0 He said, \u201cWhat I was trying to do was just make sure I made no provision for the flesh, which is what the Scripture teaches us to do.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe have copies of Jerry Jenkins\u2019 book, <em>Hedges, <\/em>in our <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> Resource Center.\u00a0 I\u2019d encourage our listeners\u2014married couples ought to read this book and decide, \u201cWhat are your personal hedges?\u201d\u00a0 What kind of boundaries are you going to put around your own relationship?\u00a0 You can go to FamilyLifeToday.com for more information about that book, <em>Hedges. <\/em>\u00a0 FamilyLifeToday.com is our website; or call us, toll-free, at 1-800-\u201cF\u201d as in family, \u201cL\u201d as in life, and then the word, \u201cTODAY\u201d.\u00a0 Get more information about the book, <em>Hedges<\/em>, when you call us.\u00a0 We\u2019ll make arrangements to get a copy of it sent out to you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWell, tomorrow is Election Day in the United States.\u00a0 One of the great privileges we have, living in a democratic republic form of government, is that we get to select who will lead us, going forward.\u00a0 Tomorrow, we have that privilege of going to the polls and voting for the person we think would best lead our nation and for other elected officials, as well.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne of our staff working, here, at FamilyLife, is Jeff Kemp.\u00a0 You may recognize the Kemp name\u2014his dad was Jack Kemp.\u00a0 Recently, as our staff gathered for a Day of Prayer together, one of the things we prayed for was for our nation\u2019s leaders and for the upcoming election.\u00a0 We asked Jeff to lead us in that time of prayer and to remind us of the importance of our involvement in the political process; but, also, the importance of remembering Who is, ultimately, in control of all things.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jeff Kemp:<\/strong>\u00a0 My dad served in Congress for many years.\u00a0 He\u2019s served in Housing and Urban Development.\u00a0 He ran for Vice President.\u00a0 He ran for President.\u00a0 I was out on the campaign trail\u2014doing what President Obama and his family are doing and what Mitt Romney and his family are doing.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThese politicians\u2014we critique them so much\u2014but they are really laying it on the line.\u00a0 They put so much of their family out there to serve us.\u00a0 We need to pray for the best in their life and for their family.\u00a0 We, also need, of course, to pray for God to shape the \u201ckings\u201d that He places in place\u2014and not to be pulling our hair out\u2014that things don\u2019t go the way we want because they\u2019re going to go the way God wants.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOur job is to repent\u2014to disciple, as the Church\u2014to love those who may believe differently than us, to be accepting of those who may believe differently than us, to take the values and principles of the Bible and great principles from the Declaration of Independence and whatever you think good economics or good social policy is, and make a good case\u2014debate with your citizens, with friends.\u00a0 Stand up for ideas; but don\u2019t equate it with the Gospel, in terms of, \u201cI know this to be God\u2019s truth so you have to believe my way.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tDon\u2019t fear if things don\u2019t go exactly the way you want.\u00a0 God is in control.\u00a0 He has always placed kings into positions; and we need to be ready to represent Christ, regardless of which way things go.\u00a0 Those are some thoughts from a political family, that\u2019s won some elections, and lost some elections, and seen how much the political families put into the career to serve us. Let me pray and then send us out.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cFather in heaven, each of us knows that we have taken attitudes about politics, and about government, and about leaders, and about issues that have been less than perfectly biblical.\u00a0 Forgive us for that.\u00a0 We know that we haven\u2019t been perfect citizens, but that You forgive us all that.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cAnd we ask, from this day forward, that you\u2019d let us be better and better citizens of heaven and citizens of earth\u2014knowing the difference between those two kingdoms\u2014never letting our political views stand in the way of guiding someone to Jesus Christ.\u00a0 At the same time, stewarding this world, and caring about poverty, and caring about justice, and caring about the unborn, and caring about the institution of marriage, and our neighborhoods, and our schools, and our kids, and opportunity, and the poor\u2014caring about these things, first, through Christ\u2014and then, as it manifests itself into the ideas that the American gets to elect leaders to represent.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cFather, forgive us our sin.\u00a0 Let us do this role, as citizens, in a responsible way.\u00a0 Please guide every single politician and government servant to find Jesus Christ and, in humility, to find Your wisdom so they may govern well.\u00a0 We pray for elections to go in the direction that You want them to go, and for us to have a faithful and prayerful, confident-in-You attitude, as we remember history\u2019s had ups and downs and all sorts of twists.\u00a0 In the end, Jesus Christ redeems everything.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cAnd we pray for His <em>shalom<\/em> as we commit our nation to prayer.\u00a0 In Christ\u2019s name\u2014Amen\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Amen.\u00a0 Thank you, Jeff, for leading us in prayer.\u00a0 I do hope everyone will like a four-month-long honeymoon, with your husband.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Well, it should have been; but it didn't quite turn out that way.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0What happened?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>When I actually was preparing for the project, we had just come back from a very difficult translation project in India.\u00a0 I came back exhausted.\u00a0 It was a challenge doing that project\u2014and had to turn right around and immediately begin preparing for this boat project\u2014which, logistically, was quite difficult to put together.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI was working very long hours, working late at night.\u00a0 I would get up in the morning\u2014and to maximize my time\u2014I started skipping time with the Lord because we were on this deadline to get this thing done.\u00a0\u00a0 When I arrived at the project in the Caribbean, I arrived with somewhat of a hardened heart, spiritually, because I just had not kept my relationship with the Lord current.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen I arrived there, it didn't take long to realize that there was a real draw\u2014and an enticement\u2014between the captain of this boat and myself.\u00a0 It was very obvious that we had quite a connection.\u00a0 He was athletic; I'm athletic.\u00a0 He was a former professional musician; so am I; and so forth.\u00a0 We just began spending a lot of time, talking personally.\u00a0 It was apparent, very quickly, that there was a real emotional connection between the two of us.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You mentioned being spiritually-vulnerable\u2014at having not spent time with the Lord\u2014not been in the Word.\u00a0 You were also physically exhausted. Those two things, going together, had your defenses down; didn\u2019t they?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong>\u00a0 Not only down\u2014about obliterated my defenses!\u00a0 [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 When you met him and\u2014I mean, I\u2019ve done this; right?\u00a0 You meet somebody and you go, \u201cWell, she\u2019s attractive,\u201d\u2014sparkle in her eye.\u00a0 She smiles; and you go, \u201cShe seems like a nice lady.\u201d\u00a0 I\u2019m sure you were having those thoughts.\u00a0 There\u2019s something very different between having a thought like that and having a desire awakened in you. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s true; and because I sensed that there was such a connection between us and chose to ignore what the Holy Spirit was telling me with red flags, bells going off, sirens, everything in my spirit\u2014I just continued to allow that relationship to grow\u2014and right before my unsuspecting husband\u2014really began spending a lot of time allowing my heart to be knit to this captain because of spending all that individual time.\u00a0 There were things I should have done\u2014that I know, now, in hindsight, are great protectors for our marriage\u2014but I chose not to do that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 What did you do?\u00a0 Did you go out of your way to try to find times to spend with him?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>I did.\u00a0 We needed to work one-on-one a lot on the project, anyway\u2014just on the sailing itinerary and so forth\u2014but I would spend all my extra time just sitting and talking with him about our background in music.\u00a0 We went scuba diving together.\u00a0 We would swim together\u2014do just a lot of individual things together.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI would sometimes send Stottler off with the film team, at night, saying, \"I'm too tired.\u00a0 I've been working so hard.\u00a0 Why don't you take them?\"\u00a0 Then, I would just spend the time on the boat; and \u201cOh, the captain happens to be on the boat, too\u2014my; my.\u201d\u00a0 But, internally, I knew what I was doing.\u00a0 I knew I was trying to further this relationship.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0Was the captain a believer?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>He was, but not a real strong believer.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 He must have sensed, early on, the same kind of connection that you sensed.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>He did.\u00a0 When I made my feelings known, he told me that he felt like I was untouchable because of my husband.\u00a0 He had a great respect for Stottler, and rightly so; but when I let him know that the doors were potentially open, then he responded more favorably.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 How did you let him know your doors were open?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Well, somewhere towards the end of the project, I was in the Caribbean by myself.\u00a0 We had actually traveled back and forth, quite a bit, from California.\u00a0 Sometimes, I would return by myself.\u00a0 Sometimes, Stottler and I would both come.\u00a0 This particular trip, I came on my own.\u00a0 We were in a beautiful port in Guadalupe, a charming little port.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, it was romantic.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh, it was absolutely romantic.\u00a0 The whole project was romantic.\u00a0 You\u2019re in the middle of sun, and sand, and sin.\u00a0 It\u2019s a perfect place for a setup like this, but we were in Guadalupe.\u00a0 It was the middle of the day.\u00a0 We were on the boat by ourselves, and I had just revealed to him how I had been feeling and wanted to know if he felt anything the same.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 How had you been feeling?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>I told him I was incredibly attracted to him, and that I was really interested in possibly pursuing something with him, and wanted to know how he felt.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And what did you mean, \"...pursue something with him\"?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>I just was leaving the door open for his response; but in my own heart, at that point, I was really, potentially, considering not returning home to my husband.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, bagging your marriage\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>That's right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong><strong>\u2014<\/strong>bagging the ministry, and running off with\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>\u00a0\u2014with a sailor, in the Caribbean!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>With a sailor, in the Caribbean.\u00a0 What led you to that point?\u00a0 I mean\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Yes, it's amazing that someone could get to that point\u2014who is in full-time work and has devoted their whole life to seeing the Gospel furthered and so forth.\u00a0 It really comes down to just a hardened heart, spiritually.\u00a0 Once\u2014I believe, once a woman or a man\u2014but I know, for a woman\u2014once we begin pursuing that kind of relationship, spiritually, we just become harder and harder.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe emotions are so incredibly strong and the desire to be with this person\u2014it's like you're in love, all over again\u2014like what you experienced when you first met your husband.\u00a0 Those emotions are so incredibly powerful.\u00a0 You will do almost anything to be with that person, and reason is gone.\u00a0 You become like an addict, in one sense. You will do anything that it takes to be with that individual.\u00a0 The sanity of what you're doing\u2014it doesn't make any sense to anyone else\u2014but you are willing to do whatever it takes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0As you look back on it, Judy, how much of what you were feeling toward this other person\u2014how much of it had to do with who he was, and how much of it was just the fantasy of the forbidden?\u00a0 The reason I ask that is because, most of the time, when there is this draw to another person, we\u2019re not stopping and thinking about what it would be like if we had bills to pay\u2014what would it be like to live with this person, in real life.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI mean, here, you are\u2014in a boat, in the Caribbean, for four months.\u00a0 I could fall in love with a lot of people on a boat in the Caribbean for four months. It doesn't matter who the person is.\u00a0 It's just that life seems so wonderful, that if\u2014it is almost a fantasy.\u00a0 It's not like you're really drawn to the real person.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>That's true.\u00a0 I was partly drawn to him and the connection that we had\u2014being similar backgrounds and similar interests\u2014but it is a fantasy, too\u2014because when we don't expose these kinds of things, essentially, to the light\u2014and I talk about telling your husband, as a great way to nip this in the bud\u2014but when I didn't expose it, I could just, internally, fantasize all I wanted and create a whole scenario that I thought would be perfect.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAt the first, it was a real struggle for me.\u00a0 It was back and forth.\u00a0 You\u2019d feel like you had one foot in heaven and one foot in hell, with the desires going on, internally; but the longer I didn\u2019t respond correctly to that and cut off the relationship\u2014do the things that the Lord was telling me to do\u2014the further my foot got away from heaven and the harder my heart became. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Judy, we left that conversation with the sea captain\u2014with you throwing open the door.\u00a0 You sent the signal.\u00a0 What did he do, at that point?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong>\u00a0 He was very surprised.\u00a0 It took him a while to process; but I called him back, a few days later, when I had gone on to another city.\u00a0 I was, at the point, then, of deciding whether I would stay in the Caribbean and not return home, or to return home\u2014and really laid that before him.\u00a0 He pretty much left it up to me.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 At that point, and it\u2019s clear, in your book, that the relationship had been purely emotional.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You\u2019d enjoyed a lot of great communication but there hadn\u2019t been anything sexual.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong>\u00a0 Nothing physical, whatsoever.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 At that point, when you threw open the door, was there anything physical that took place on his behalf toward you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong>\u00a0 No, nothing.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Did you want there to be?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Absolutely!\u00a0 I believe an emotional affair certainly incites the ideas of what you desire physically but, by God's grace, nothing happened, physically.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I want our listeners to know this is where sexual affairs begin.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong>\u00a0 Absolutely.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 They start in the emotional realm\u2014casually, at first\u2014harmlessly, at first\u2014but they gain momentum until the puppies are all running around in the heart, confusing both the soul and the mind.\u00a0 At that point, it opens the door to much more than just an emotional affair.\u00a0 It can become a full-blown affair.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong>\u00a0 Absolutely and quite easily.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think it\u2019s pretty remarkable, frankly, that an individual who was not particularly spiritually-strong\u2014had some kind of a spiritual background\u2014but you really wonder about his spiritual condition.\u00a0 He\u2019s sitting on the deck of a boat; and a woman says to him, \u201cI\u2019m open.\u201d\u00a0 He says, \u201cWell, I\u2019m going to have to think about that.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>I believe I was surrounded by a whole lot of angels!\u00a0 I really believe the Lord protected me.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You must have been.\u00a0 I mean, how many guys are going to have to think about that?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong>\u00a0 Absolutely.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 When you called him and said, \u201cI\u2019m either staying or going.\u00a0 What\u2019s it going to be?\u201d and he said, \u201cIt\u2019s up to you,\u201d you hung up.\u00a0 What did you do?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, we talked for two hours, and I hung up, and\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Whoa, whoa.\u00a0 What did you talk for two hours about?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think I was really trying to convince him to be more open to this.\u00a0 He kept talking about what an incredible husband I had, and he's right.\u00a0 Again, I believe I was just so protected by the Lord because this could have gone so easily the other way.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 He was trying to talk you out of it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Yes, I would say that he was\u2014in one sense\u2014and leaving the door open in another.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, he was both trolling for you, as well as, pushing you back toward your husband, at the same time.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong>\u00a0 You know, I think both of us really knew what we should do; but it was just a real internal battle for both of us.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 He didn't want to be a marriage-wrecker.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>He said, too\u2014he said, \u201cThe rest of this project would just be a disaster if we pursued this,\u201d and, \u201cWhat would that do with my ministry and all those things, as well?\u201d\u00a0 So, he's a very honorable man in that respect\u2014that he withheld his feelings, as well.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, you hung up and what?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>I hung up and, again, by God's grace, called an accountability partner that I had had for years\u2014set up many years back, in my young Christian life\u2014and told her what was going on.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Why, in the world, did you do that?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>I have no idea.\u00a0 I believe, again, it was just God's grace.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>I mean, at that point, you're deceived!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>That's true.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You're sending your husband off on spiritual missions\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 And you know what your accountability partner is going to tell you when you called her; didn't you?\u00a0 She's not going to call and say, \"Oh, well, gee, it sounds perfect!\"\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>She said she has no idea why I called and asked her to beat me up; but I did!\u00a0 [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0Tell me about that conversation.\u00a0 You get your friend, Holly, on the phone.\u00a0 You say, \"Holly, I need to talk to you.\"\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>That's right.\u00a0 I had told her, actually, a little bit before.\u00a0 She already knew that I had an interest in this man but had no idea how far I had allowed my heart to go.\u00a0 She really gave me a dose of reality in big form\u2014and talked to me about my vows before the Lord, about my ministry, about my husband\u2014just everything I needed to hear.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 But she wasn't telling you anything you didn't already know.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>No, it's true, Bob; but when you get to that point, you really need somebody to awaken in you, again, the reality because you are deceiving yourself.\u00a0 You're closing your heart to what God wants to tell you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Both Bob and I know Holly.\u00a0 Holly is Holly Elliff.\u00a0 She is not just any Christian\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0She speaks the truth in love; doesn't she?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Holly has eight children.\u00a0 She's married to a man who is committed to the Scripture.\u00a0 We've interviewed Holly, here, on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>.\u00a0 Holly is a God-fearing woman of God who doesn't play games.\u00a0 You could have called a lot of people\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014who would have been a lot easier on you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 It would have been a whole lot easier to have called\u2014but you went right into the\u2014you went right into the holy of holies.\u00a0 You called a woman of God!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>That's the truth, and that's what I needed.\u00a0 Holly has been a phenomenal accountability person for me, my whole Christian life, essentially.\u00a0 We had established that relationship from long before.\u00a0 It was really God's grace that had me call her.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Did you feel a boot come through the phone?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Boot?\u00a0 It was more like a knife, and a machete, and a machine gun!\u00a0 [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0How long were you on the phone with Holly?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Probably an hour\u2014hour-and-a-half.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0And when you hung up from that conversation\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Judy:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>When I hung up\u2014Holly told me, later, that she actually had no idea the direction I was going to go because she said my heart was so far gone, at that point.\u00a0 She really didn't know what I was going to do.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, Bob, my kids used to hate this when I did this to them; but you're going to have to wait for the next edition of <em>FamilyLife Today <\/em>to hear the rest of the story.\u00a0 But I just want to review a couple of things that occurred here.\u00a0 First of all, we had a woman who admitted her heart was growing cold for Christ.\u00a0 She was on a spiritual mission, but she was neglecting to guard her heart.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSecondly, she never thought she would ever find herself in a situation like this.\u00a0 I have to believe there are literally hundreds of thousands of listeners, both single and married, right now, who go, \"No, man!\u00a0 Not me.\u00a0 I would never find myself there.\"\u00a0 That's not the message of Scripture, \"Let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.\"\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThird, she kept moving in toward the heat, that would burn her; but it was, number four, a relationship with a godly woman, that she could trust, that, ultimately, became a life preserver\u2014not only of her marriage\u2014but I think, probably, more importantly, of your faith and of the legacy that you're going to leave.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 I remember a number of years ago when we sat down to have a conversation with author, Jerry Jenkins, who wrote all of the <em>Left Behind<\/em> books.\u00a0 He had written a book called <em>Hedges<\/em>,where he had outlined the steps he and his wife had taken, in their marriage, to preserve their relationship with one another.\u00a0 They had taken some steps.\u00a0 I remember him saying, \u201cI have friends who said, \u2018Boy, this just feels a little legalistic.\u2019\u201d\u00a0 He said, \u201cWhat I was trying to do was just make sure I made no provision for the flesh, which is what the Scripture teaches us to do.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe have copies of Jerry Jenkins\u2019 book, <em>Hedges, <\/em>in our <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> Resource Center.\u00a0 I\u2019d encourage our listeners\u2014married couples ought to read this book and decide, \u201cWhat are your personal hedges?\u201d\u00a0 What kind of boundaries are you going to put around your own relationship?\u00a0 You can go to FamilyLifeToday.com for more information about that book, <em>Hedges. <\/em>\u00a0 FamilyLifeToday.com is our website; or call us, toll-free, at 1-800-\u201cF\u201d as in family, \u201cL\u201d as in life, and then the word, \u201cTODAY\u201d.\u00a0 Get more information about the book, <em>Hedges<\/em>, when you call us.\u00a0 We\u2019ll make arrangements to get a copy of it sent out to you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWell, tomorrow is Election Day in the United States.\u00a0 One of the great privileges we have, living in a democratic republic form of government, is that we get to select who will lead us, going forward.\u00a0 Tomorrow, we have that privilege of going to the polls and voting for the person we think would best lead our nation and for other elected officials, as well.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne of our staff working, here, at FamilyLife, is Jeff Kemp.\u00a0 You may recognize the Kemp name\u2014his dad was Jack Kemp.\u00a0 Recently, as our staff gathered for a Day of Prayer together, one of the things we prayed for was for our nation\u2019s leaders and for the upcoming election.\u00a0 We asked Jeff to lead us in that time of prayer and to remind us of the importance of our involvement in the political process; but, also, the importance of remembering Who is, ultimately, in control of all things.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Jeff Kemp:<\/strong>\u00a0 My dad served in Congress for many years.\u00a0 He\u2019s served in Housing and Urban Development.\u00a0 He ran for Vice President.\u00a0 He ran for President.\u00a0 I was out on the campaign trail\u2014doing what President Obama and his family are doing and what Mitt Romney and his family are doing.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThese politicians\u2014we critique them so much\u2014but they are really laying it on the line.\u00a0 They put so much of their family out there to serve us.\u00a0 We need to pray for the best in their life and for their family.\u00a0 We, also need, of course, to pray for God to shape the \u201ckings\u201d that He places in place\u2014and not to be pulling our hair out\u2014that things don\u2019t go the way we want because they\u2019re going to go the way God wants.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOur job is to repent\u2014to disciple, as the Church\u2014to love those who may believe differently than us, to be accepting of those who may believe differently than us, to take the values and principles of the Bible and great principles from the Declaration of Independence and whatever you think good economics or good social policy is, and make a good case\u2014debate with your citizens, with friends.\u00a0 Stand up for ideas; but don\u2019t equate it with the Gospel, in terms of, \u201cI know this to be God\u2019s truth so you have to believe my way.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tDon\u2019t fear if things don\u2019t go exactly the way you want.\u00a0 God is in control.\u00a0 He has always placed kings into positions; and we need to be ready to represent Christ, regardless of which way things go.\u00a0 Those are some thoughts from a political family, that\u2019s won some elections, and lost some elections, and seen how much the political families put into the career to serve us.
