alright?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 It was a humble studio.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And we got it for half-price!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014at $25 an hour.\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s why we were in the humble studio\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Max:<\/strong>\u00a0 There you go.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014because we were trying to be wise stewards of what little money we had at the time.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right across the street was Asher Auto Salvage.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 We called this studio \u201cBethlehem\u201d because, out of humble places, \u2014 [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I remember one the things we had to do\u2014because we started the program pretty quick\u2014ahead of schedule.\u00a0 We were on the air sooner than we thought we were going to be.\u00a0 We were scrambling to get guests because we needed them for our radio program.\u00a0 Dennis said to me, \u201cCall this buddy of mine, who is a pastor.\u00a0 Just see if he\u2019s got anything.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s basically where we were.\u00a0 So, I called your pastor buddy, and I said\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u201cHave you got anything?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014\u201cHave you got anything?\u201d\u00a0 He said, \u201cWell, I just did a series, here, at church, on grace.\u201d\u00a0 I thought, \u201cOkay, come, talk to us about grace because we need it.\u201d\u00a0 I just want to tell you\u201420 years later\u2014this wasn\u2019t because we were desperate.\u00a0 We really wanted to talk to you about your new book on grace.\u00a0 We understand where it fits into families.\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Max has written a book called <em>Grace: More Than We Deserve, Greater Than We Imagine<\/em>.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t realize this until I was preparing for this broadcast, Max; but you have a heart for children who are orphans\u2014children in need.\u00a0 You\u2019ve kind of struck up a relationship with World Vision<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> and have addressed this over the past couple of decades or so?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Max:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, it\u2019s become more intense, the last four years, which we\u2019ve kind of entered into a more formal partnership with World Vision.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Why the heart for the orphan?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Max:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, scripturally, James 1:27 says, \u201cThe true religion is this that you would abstain from evil desires\u201d \u2014or pursue holiness\u2014 \u201cand that you would remember the widow and the orphan\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Max:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014\u201cin times of distress.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Max:<\/strong>\u00a0 The orphan is that person\u2014the most vulnerable person\u2014on the face of the earth.\u00a0 It\u2019s the person who needs us the most.\u00a0 It just seemed right to me and to my wife, Denalyn, that we could leverage some of the credibility that we\u2019ve earned, over the last few years, maybe\u2014recognition\u2014and use that to partner with World Vision.\u00a0 We looked around for a relief organization that really seemed to have a great track record.\u00a0 We love World Vision.\u00a0 We love all of them, but World Vision just seemed to connect with us.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, we went into more of a partnership with them.\u00a0 We\u2019re trying to find sponsors for 25,000 kids.\u00a0 Partnership means\u2014make sure they get water and food, education, vaccination, and access to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 The issue of the orphan and adoption are really themed back to your book, <em>Grace<\/em>.\u00a0 You tell a story about the orphan train.\u00a0 I love this story because I\u2019d done some research on this in the past, but you wrapped some flesh around it and told a story about a family.\u00a0 Share that with our listeners.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Max:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, this is the most interesting story.\u00a0 I loved it.\u00a0 If you ever get a chance to read about the orphan train, there are several documentaries out about it\u2014some books out about it.\u00a0 I came across a story about a fellow named Lee Nailling, N-A-I-L-L-I-N-G\u2014Nailling.\u00a0 He was eight years old.\u00a0 He was an orphan in New York City.\u00a0 He and his two brothers were placed in the orphanage by their father.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe orphan train was the idea of a gentleman in about the 1860\u2019s, Dennis\u2014if I remember correctly.\u00a0 The idea was that they would put these orphans in New York City, Bob, on a train and just ship them west.\u00a0 All these prairie families, who needed workers\u2014all these farmers\u2014and the West was kind of\u2014they would pull into a small town in\u2014as far west, as Kansas, or south, as Texas.\u00a0 These kids would just be brought out and stand on the train platform.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSometimes, they\u2019d be taken into a saloon or someplace\u2014and the farming families would come.\u00a0 They would examine the kids.\u00a0 They would take two or three home if they wanted them.\u00a0 It was a bit crude.\u00a0 They would check their teeth.\u00a0 They would see if they had muscles.\u00a0 They would ask\u2014they were looking\u2014a lot of kids just didn\u2019t get picked.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br>Well, Lee Nailling\u2019s story\u2014and I could tell this all day.\u00a0 It\u2019s a fascinating story.\u00a0 His brothers got picked, and he got picked over.\u00a0 His dad, who put him on the train, gave him an envelope, with the return address.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Max:<\/strong>\u00a0 He said, \u201cSomeday, get in touch with me.\u201d\u00a0 When Lee Nailling woke up, after the first night on the train, the envelope was gone.\u00a0 He never knew what happened to it.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Didn\u2019t know how to get a hold of his father.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Max:<\/strong>\u00a0 Didn\u2019t know how to get a hold of his father.\u00a0 So, his brother gets adopted.\u00a0 Another brother gets adopted.\u00a0 Lee Nailling, by this time, is all the way down in Texas; and he gets adopted.\u00a0 Then, they change their minds; and they take him back.\u00a0 Farmer family keeps him one night, and they decide they don\u2019t want him\u2014put him back on the\u2014can you imagine?\u00a0 Can you imagine?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWell, finally, he gets adopted by this family.\u00a0 Lee Nailling, in his mind, is thinking, \u201cI\u2019m going to escape tonight.\u00a0 They\u2019re going to kick me out anyway.\u00a0 I\u2019m going to escape tonight.\u201d\u00a0 They put him to bed.\u00a0 Well, he\u2019s so tired\u2014he falls right asleep.\u00a0 The next morning, he gets up.\u00a0 He gets taken to breakfast.\u00a0 He\u2019s thinking, \u201cI\u2019m going to escape;\u201d but this older man and this woman\u2014they don\u2019t have any other kids.\u00a0 It\u2019s just the three of them at the table.\u00a0 Lee Nailling remembers the woman telling the father to lead the prayer.\u00a0 He bows his head and he says, \u201cOur Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy Name.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 <br><br>Lee Nailling, in his story, says, \u201cI didn\u2019t know who this \u2018Our Father\u2019 was, and I didn\u2019t know who these people were; but I looked up and across the table.\u00a0 The father winked at me, and the mother smiled at me.\u00a0 They reached over, and they petted me.\u201d\u00a0 He thought, \u201cI may be in a place called home.\u201d\u00a0 They adopted him, and he went on to grow up in that home and to lead a wonderful life.\u00a0 He gave his heart to Christ and became a great Christian man.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe whole reason I put that story in my book is because that is a picture of grace.\u00a0 That is a picture of grace\u2014that we have been adopted.\u00a0 In fact, that\u2019s biblical language; isn\u2019t it?\u2014that we have been adopted into the family of God\u2014that God has made a covenant with us to bring us and let us sit at the table and spend eternity with Him.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, it is a picture of grace.\u00a0 In fact, you stop and think, \u201cAll of us are adopted children.\u201d\u00a0 I mean, that\u2019s the metaphor that the Bible uses.\u00a0 We\u2014and stop and consider the power of that metaphor.\u00a0 We are not brought in as slaves.\u00a0 We\u2019re brought in as children\u2014full inheritance.\u00a0 Our older brother shares the inheritance with us.\u00a0 <br><br>Stop and think\u2014if you were the sole inheritor of a fortune and you said, \u201cYou know what?\u00a0 I want to just open this up and share it with all these adopted brothers and sisters.\u201d I mean, after one or two adoptions, you\u2019d say to Dad, \u201cLook, this is going to water down my inheritance,\u201d but the riches of God are inexhaustible.\u00a0\u00a0 Nothing gets watered down, and the abundance\u2014the metaphor is so strong, so powerful, that\u2014when we stop and think about adoption and what it pictures for us, it ought to bring us to tears.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Max:<\/strong>\u00a0 I love\u2014you\u2019re right, the metaphor just is endless.\u00a0 I love that phrase\u2014it\u2019s often used\u2014we hear of unwanted or surprise pregnancies, but we never hear of a surprise adoption.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Max:<\/strong>\u00a0 You know?\u00a0 You never just say, \u201cOops!\u00a0 I accidentally adopted somebody.\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 You hear, \u201cOops!\u00a0 Oh, we\u2019re pregnant,\u201d but never, \u201cOops!\u00a0 We adopted somebody.\u201d\u00a0 An adoption requires a decision\u2014a choice.\u00a0 In some cases\u2014often cases\u2014you even get to see the child before you select them.\u00a0 Well, this is God.\u00a0 God has examined you and me from stem to stern, from first day to last day; and He said, \u201cYou know what?\u00a0 I want that child in My Kingdom\u201d \u2014\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014with everything that\u2019s wrong with them.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Max:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014with everything that\u2019s wrong with them.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 He didn\u2019t inspect our teeth.\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 He just said, \u201cI want you in\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Max:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014\u201cmy family.\u201d\u00a0 I can say this, Max\u2014when I was reading your book, and I felt your heart for the orphan, and saw how you positioned it around this theme of grace\u2014I thought, \u201cThat\u2019s really true.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 In my life, Barbara and I have one of our six children that is adopted.\u00a0 We don\u2019t know which one, just adopted this child\u2014that\u2019s supposed to be a joke, Max.\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 Max was kind of\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Max:<\/strong>\u00a0 I thought, \u201cWell, maybe this is a family secret.\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 No.\u00a0 No, but I would say I have learned much more about grace through my relationship with my adopted daughter than I have through our biological children\u2014some really fascinating lessons of love and of grace.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIn fact, I just talked with her just a few moments ago, before stepping in the studio, and just had a delightful conversation with her\u2014hearing of God\u2019s work in her life and how He\u2019s giving her courage.\u00a0 She\u2019s just become a remarkable, young lady.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI mean\u2014but I would never have understood the Father\u2019s heart for us, as His adopted children, if we had not ventured out in that journey of faith\u2014just said, \u201cGod, are You calling us to do this\u2014to go call one our own\u2014and graft that child into your family with no difference?\u201d\u00a0 It really is a powerful illustration of grace, like you\u2019re talking about.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Max:<\/strong>\u00a0 Can I ask you a question?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Sure.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Max:<\/strong>\u00a0 I know this is your show, but can I ask you a question?\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019ve had a couple of guests turn the tables on me.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Max:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019m just curious.\u00a0 Did your child, the adopted daughter, ever misbehave?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh, yes.\u00a0 Oh, yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Max:<\/strong>\u00a0 Did you un-adopt her?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 No.\u00a0 No; never.\u00a0 In fact, you know, I told her when she went through a real difficult time in her life\u2014I looked her in the eye and I said, \u201cOne thousand times out of one thousand, I\u2019d do it again.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Max:<\/strong>\u00a0 Wow.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 It became kind of a little by-line with us, \u201cOne thousand out of one thousand.\u201d\u00a0 To your point, once you\u2019re in\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Max:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014you\u2019re in.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014you\u2019re in!\u00a0 I\u2019ll turn this back to you now, at this point.\u00a0 You\u2019ve said, as you\u2019ve spoken on this theme of grace, \u201cOne of the applications you\u2019ve seen people most thirsty for is around the subject of eternal security.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Max:<\/strong>\u00a0 Exactly.\u00a0 That\u2019s exactly where I was headed.\u00a0 I love you, Dennis.\u00a0 I think you\u2019re a great man, but even you are a sinner.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 No doubt.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Max:<\/strong>\u00a0 If you can extend that kind of covenant, as a sinful man\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Max:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014to your daughter\u2014the Bible says how much more can God, Who is holy, perfect, endless, righteous\u2014has all of these attributes\u2014how much more can He, then, turn\u2014He will not un-adopt us.\u00a0 That\u2019s not going to happen.\u00a0 When He puts His heart on us, when He lays His claim on us, He\u2019s never going to let us go.\u00a0 I think this is such a happy part of the Gospel\u2014such a glad part of the Gospel\u2014because there are times in which I would have let me go\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh, yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Max:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014honestly.\u00a0 There were times I would have said, \u201cOkay, Lucado has done enough to disqualify himself from being at my table.\u00a0 He\u2019s just crossed the line.\u201d\u00a0 I would have done that to me; but the Scriptures say over and over, \u201cThat will not happen.\u00a0 That will not happen.\u201d\u00a0 There are many fears in life, but the fear of being let go by God\u2019s hand\u2014I don\u2019t need to have that fear.\u00a0 He\u2019s always got me.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I remember, a number of months ago, I had a great privilege of spending a day in a correctional facility in Colorado, with a man who is in his 50s.\u00a0 His dad was a preacher.\u00a0 In his junior high years, this young man headed in the wrong direction\u2014started hanging out with the wrong folks, started making unwise decisions, and found himself in the county jail and doing time, as a result of that.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen he was let out of jail, he decided that he was going to head on the right path.\u00a0 He did for a while.\u00a0 In fact, he got involved with a church.\u00a0 He, at one point\u2014he was preaching.\u00a0 He was the pastor of the church.\u00a0 Then, things got crossways at the church.\u00a0 They decided to let him go.\u00a0 He said, \u201cI didn\u2019t know how to handle that.\u00a0 The only way I knew how to handle disappoint like that was the way I\u2019d always handled it.\u201d\u00a0 He said, \u201cI lapsed back into this old life,\u201d and he wound up in jail again.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHere he is\u2014headed off, for a second time, down on charges.\u00a0 He said, \u201cI was sitting in the jail.\u00a0 I was hearing some guys, in the cell, talk about the Bible.\u201d\u00a0 He said, \u201cThey were making a mess of it.\u201d\u00a0 He said, \u201cI knew enough about the Bible, and I knew that they were making a mess with what they were doing.\u201d\u00a0 He said, \u201cI got down, and I said to them, \u2018No, that\u2019s not what that passage means.\u2019\u201d\u00a0 He said, \u201cThe passage was Romans 7\u201d\u2014at the end of Romans 7, where Paul is wrestling with this whole issue of, \u2018Why do I do the things I don\u2019t really want to do?\u2019\u00a0 He gets to the point where he says, \u2018Oh, wretched man that I am, who will deliver me from this body of death?\u2019\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe guy, who was in prison, said, \u201cAt that point, I had to go be alone.\u201d\u00a0 He said, \u201cSo, I went to the toilet stall in the Denver County Jail.\u00a0 I sat there, and I argued with God.\u00a0 I said, \u2018You can\u2019t still love me.\u00a0 Given what I\u2019ve done, You can\u2019t still love me.\u2019\u201d\u00a0 He said, \u201cI just heard God say, \u2018I love you.\u2019\u00a0 I said, \u2018You can\u2019t, God.\u00a0 You can\u2019t love me.\u00a0 I\u2019ve rejected You.\u00a0 I\u2019ve transgressed.\u00a0 I\u2019ve thrown things back in Your face.\u00a0 You can\u2019t still love me.\u2019\u201d\u00a0 He said, \u201cI just kept hearing God say, \u2018I still love you.\u2019\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe headed off to do a twenty-plus year sentence in prison.\u00a0 He\u2019s still in there, but you know what he\u2019s been doing for the last 20 years?\u00a0 He has been teaching men what it means to be a godly man\u2014taking them through courses and discipling guys.\u00a0 He\u2019s been an evangelist, in prison.\u00a0 He\u2019s been a minister of the Gospel, behind bars, grateful for God\u2019s saving work in his life.\u00a0 It all started with him saying, \u201cIt\u2019s possible that God can still love me, after all of this.\u201d\u00a0 When we can start to understand that, \u201cThere is, therefore, now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus....\u201d that transforms how we live; doesn\u2019t it?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 It really does.\u00a0 In fact, Max doesn\u2019t know this; but that story of what Bob did in that prison\u2014he actually filmed a video of Ricky Servine [spelling uncertain]\u2014that is in our new Stepping Up<em><sup>\u2122<\/sup><\/em> video series for men.\u00a0 The story is almost all of Session Four.\u00a0 It is the Gospel because it is a picture of how God can set a man free\u2014who is physically in prison\u2014but he can be a freer man, in prison, than some people are\u2014who are in the outside of those fences.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAs you were talking, I just kept thinking just about this issue of eternal security, and how God redeems us, and the kind of grace He offers us.\u00a0 I just remember this passage ministering to me because I struggled with the issue of eternal security when the spiritual lights came on in my life when I was a college student.\u00a0 Someone shared this passage; and I\u2019ll not read all of it from John, Chapter 10, where Jesus is talking about how He\u2019s the Good Shepherd.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe summarizes it, at the end.\u00a0 He says, \u201cMy sheep hear My voice, and I know them; and they follow me; and I give them eternal life...\u201d\u00a0 Then, listen to these promises.\u00a0 Jesus says, \u201c...and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.\u00a0 My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father\u2019s hand.\u00a0 I and the Father are one.\u201d\u00a0 Who\u2019s got you? \u2014Almighty God!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Max:<\/strong>\u00a0 Almighty God.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 He selected you.\u00a0 He adopted you.\u00a0 You\u2019re in!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Max:<\/strong>\u00a0 You\u2019re in.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You\u2019re in the family.\u00a0 You can\u2019t be unborn\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Max:<\/strong>\u00a0 Absolutely; absolutely.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014from the family.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Max:<\/strong>\u00a0 I find this message of eternal security to be especially comforting for people who have prodigal children.\u00a0 When I talk to somebody, whose children have walked away from the Church, or walked away from Christ\u2014it\u2019s not ours to know if a person has truly given their heart to Christ\u2014but many of these parents can remember a time in which they saw their child surrender their heart to Christ.\u00a0 I say, \u201cThat child belongs to God.\u00a0 He still does.\u00a0 He\u2019s not fruitful right now.\u00a0 He may not be faithful right now, but God\u2019s not going to let that child go.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 I think parents, who struggle with children who have wandered away from the faith\u2014they need that hope.\u00a0 There will be those in heaven, I think, who gave their heart to Christ.\u00a0 Then, they led a fruitless and faithless life.\u00a0 I know that can come across as being disrespectful.\u00a0 I don\u2019t mean it to be.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tGod is so great that He is going to use that life, somehow, for His glory; but if somebody gives their heart to Christ, Christ is going to hold on to them.\u00a0 He\u2019s going to hold\u2014of course, it\u2019d be better if they were faithful.\u00a0 Of course, it\u2019d be better if they were fruitful.\u00a0 Of course, they\u2019d be happier if they were living and walking in Christ; but let\u2019s don\u2019t ever put salvation back on our shoulders.\u00a0 Let\u2019s keep it where it was, where it started\u2014in Jesus\u2014His death on the Cross.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And I celebrate that with you.\u00a0 I would add this one thing to what you just described.\u00a0 I also find it vastly comforting, to me, to know that a prodigal moment is covered by that same grace\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Max:<\/strong>\u00a0 Amen.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<br><strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014because what man doesn\u2019t have\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Max:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s true.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014or woman\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Max:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s true.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014a prodigal moment?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Max:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 The prodigal son or daughter may go off for a season or two, or what looks like a lifetime, by the time we pass, but\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Max:<\/strong>\u00a0 Exactly.\u00a0 We have prodigal hours;
