and second, she and Bill found themselves battling with infertility.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 A lot of people said, \u201cJust go on with your life, and wait and see what happens.\u201d\u00a0 So, for a while, we did.\u00a0 I just dove more into my career, and it was a great career.\u00a0 I had a dream job, working at a country club; but it sort of felt like a promise that I thought was made to me had been broken because I always thought I would be a mom.\u00a0 So, suddenly this, \u201cWell, it will be okay.\u00a0 It will all work out,\u201d \u2014it didn\u2019t feel okay.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 This is <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> for Thursday, August 23<sup>rd<\/sup>.\u00a0 Our host is the President of FamilyLife<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, Dennis Rainey, and I'm Bob Lepine.\u00a0\u00a0 Tracey Eyster joins us today to talk about how she dealt with disappointment as a disillusioned young wife.\u00a0 Stay tuned.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd welcome to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>.\u00a0 Thanks for joining us.\u00a0 I have come to a settled conclusion, here, that I would like to share with our listeners; if that\u2019s all right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Is this a confession or a conclusion?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 A conclusion.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Okay.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 The conclusion is that moms never stop being moms.\u00a0 I was just with my 91-year-old mother this morning.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And it took you that long with your mom for you to figure that out?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Just a fresh illustration of this; okay?\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 I\u2019m with her this morning.\u00a0 She\u2019s about to have some furniture moved.\u00a0 I said to her, \u201cMom, I can get some friends and we can move the furniture.\u201d\u00a0 She said, \u201cNo, I\u2019m going to get some professionals to come move it.\u201d\u00a0 I said\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You\u2019re not competent.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I said, \u201cMom, it would be easy.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 She couldn\u2019t trust you to move\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u201cIt would be easy for me to get some guys and we can move it.\u201d\u00a0 She looked at me sternly, \u201cI\u2019m going to get some professionals to move it.\u201d\u00a0 I said, \u201cYes, Mommy,\u201d and that was about all\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Did you ask her how you\u2019d earned this reputation for destroying her furniture?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 No.\u00a0 She just wants to make sure that it\u2019s in the hands of skilled professionals as opposed to me, apparently.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 My mom would point out a ring I left on one of her tables, and that carried all the way through into my adult years.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s why you could not be trusted with furniture.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I could not be trusted with furniture and with a Coke<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> to go into the living room, certainly.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWell, we have the author of a brand-new book called <em>Be the Mom<\/em>.\u00a0 Tracey Eyster joins us on <em>FamilyLife Today.<\/em>\u00a0 Tracey, I\u2019ve been looking forward to having you across the table and having you be a cheerleader for moms.\u00a0 Welcome to the broadcast.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 Thank you.\u00a0 It\u2019s great to be here.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Tracey is the creator and editor of MomLifeToday.com.\u00a0 That is a mom blog, and we\u2019ll talk more about that a little bit later on.\u00a0 She loves horseback riding.\u00a0 I did not know this\u2014hiking and kayaking.\u00a0 She\u2019s been married to Bill, her husband, for 25 years, which I did know; and they have two children.\u00a0 Bill works here at FamilyLife.\u00a0 He is the EVP and COO of FamilyLife.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Some people might not know what that means.\u00a0 What does that mean he does?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 It means that he basically runs the show because I\u2019m usually in here with you, and somebody has got to pay attention to the details.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 [Laughing]\u00a0\u00a0 That is right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>I want to start, not with you being a mom, because there\u2019s a story, even of how that occurred in your marriage\u2014but I want to go all the way back because I know there\u2019s a real story here with you and Bill.\u00a0 How did you meet Bill in the first place?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 Bill and I actually are from the same hometown.\u00a0 It\u2019s a small town in Kentucky.\u00a0 We knew of each other, but we really didn\u2019t meet each other until we were\u2014I was in college and he had just graduated.\u00a0 He moved away because his parents divorced.\u00a0 He moved away when he was nine.\u00a0 So, I\u2019d always heard that name, Bill Eyster.\u00a0 He was sort of infamous.\u00a0 He\u2019s a pastor\u2019s kid.\u00a0 He sort of wreaked havoc in the town\u2014I guess, the typical P.K.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Trouble-making pastor\u2019s kid.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think he was!\u00a0 We met when I was about to be a senior in college, and he had just graduated.\u00a0 We were on a double date, but we were not with each other.\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 Yes, so we did one of those, \u201cOooh, I think that one looks a little more interesting!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And so you both ditched one another\u2019s dates that night?\u00a0 Or was it later?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 No, we just\u2014we had a fondness for each other.\u00a0 I remember I kept telling my friend, \u201cBoy, he\u2019s great.\u00a0 You should go after him.\u00a0 He\u2019s a really great guy.\u201d\u00a0 She said, \u201cWell, he\u2019s like a brother.\u00a0 I just go out with him when he\u2019s in town just because he\u2019s a nice guy.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 That was all you needed.\u00a0 The door was open, right there.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 The door was open, there you go.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, you guys were able to connect permanently and start out your marriage together.\u00a0 You were on a pretty good track yourself, professionally, as was Bill; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 I had a career as a paralegal.\u00a0 I worked for a law firm in south Florida, and it was very specialized.\u00a0 We did equity country club conversions.\u00a0 I ended up, actually, being hired to work for a country club as a membership and marketing director.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI had an amazing career, but there was one part of our life where things weren\u2019t going as we planned because we always thought we would be parents.\u00a0 We had been married for about five years, and I just kept not getting pregnant.\u00a0 We explored with physicians what was going on.\u00a0 I was told that because I had polycystic ovaries, and several tests later, that I didn\u2019t ovulate, I was told that we\u2019d probably never have children.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, I want to come back to that story, in just a moment; but there was something else taking place in your marriage, even after you had children, that put you in a difficult spot because Bill moved on to become an executive with Pratt &amp; Whitney and was on a fast-track with that company, which meant long, long hours and hard work.\u00a0 He kind of left you in the dust; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 At times, he did.\u00a0 He was very driven and focused on his career.\u00a0 He always has been a great husband, but what I would say is there were seasons that were probably longer than they should have been, where he was focused primarily on work.\u00a0 I know that a lot of women have that problem\u2014that they have to learn to deal with, \u201cHow am I still a loving, supportive, involved wife and mom, and not get frustrated by the hours and understand that sometimes at work there are things going on where just a lot is demanded of your husband?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI just made the decision that the world was really hard on Bill, and he needed a soft place.\u00a0 I just made the decision, with God\u2019s help, to just always be his soft place.\u00a0 I never wanted home to be someplace he didn\u2019t want to come because I was complaining or nagging.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 So you didn\u2019t try to raise the flag and say, \u201cHang on here!\u00a0 I\u2019m here and need a little attention.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 We would have discussions; but yet, when there were times it was really hard at work, I felt like it was counter-productive if it was really hard at home, too.\u00a0 I can remember crying and praying, \u201cGod, this isn\u2019t fair,\u201d and, \u201cThis isn\u2019t what I want.\u00a0 I don\u2019t want it this way,\u201d and, \u201cGod, he needs to do this, this, this and this.\u201d\u00a0 God kept telling me, \u201cThat\u2019s not your job.\u00a0 You have enough of your own issues to work out.\u00a0 You work on you; I\u2019ll take care of Bill.\u00a0 You just need to be the soft place for him to come home to.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat\u2019s what I tried to do.\u00a0 I wasn\u2019t perfect.\u00a0 I mean, I had my moments.\u00a0 We used to call them Tracey\u2019s Meetings because, every now and then, I\u2019d say, \u201cBabe, we have to have a meeting!\u201d\u00a0 He\u2019d sit across from me, and I\u2019d sit across from him.\u00a0 There was a lot of crying, but I couldn\u2019t do that every week because then he\u2019d be miserable.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, but you were watching a driven businessman, whose work was probably, truth be known, a little too important to him.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 Mm hmm.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 A little off-center in terms of balance in his life.\u00a0 You were watching it cost him, not only in his relationship with you, but also your children.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And you began to pray and ask God to do a work in Bill\u2019s life.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 I kept praying that God would turn his heart towards home.\u00a0 I had been doing a Beth Moore Bible study, and it was <em>Believing Him.<\/em>\u00a0 I remember that I would just pray over and over, \u201cIf you believe, you will see the glory of God.\u00a0 If you believe, you will see the glory of God.\u201d\u00a0 I just kept praying that and I kept saying, \u201cOkay, God.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know when.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know how, but I know that I\u2019m going to see Your glory through this somehow, somewhere.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, also, some of those conversations\u2014I found specific ways to help us pull apart as a family.\u00a0 Bill had never been a camper.\u00a0 I said, \u201cYou know, if we could go camping once a month, just once a month, where we could pull away from the world and be together as just a family.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 He\u2019d never been camping.\u00a0 He\u2019s 6\u20195\u201d and weighs 220 pounds.\u00a0 The last thing he wanted to do was go camping; but we explored that opportunity, and we did.\u00a0 Again, that\u2019s part of that intentional\u2014we pull away, once a month, no matter what, and we would go camping.\u00a0 It kind of cemented us back together as a family.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd then, the Friday night date nights\u2014he was exhausted by the time Friday got there.\u00a0 So, I lowered my expectations of, \u201cI don\u2019t need to go <em>out<\/em> somewhere.\u201d\u00a0 I thought I was lowering my expectations but it became so much sweeter because he would stop and get something on the way home, and we would have date night at home.\u00a0 The kids would eat pizza and watch a movie.\u00a0 To this day\u2014it was less than a month ago, the kids were talking about that and laughing about how they used to remember that they\u2019d sneak up the stairs from the basement and peek out the window and watch us having our date night.\u00a0 They\u2019d see us talking and the candles.\u00a0 I can recall times when they would giggle, \u201cAre you kissing yet?\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tEven that little intentionality\u2014I don\u2019t know, it showed that he cared and he was trying.\u00a0 He probably couldn\u2019t do it as much as I wanted to, but there were enough times of intentional togetherness that I guess it got us over the rough spots.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And God finally did show you His glory. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 How did that happen?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, oddly enough, as I was praying about\u2014hoping that God would turn Bill\u2019s heart towards home\u2014there was a lot going on in Bill\u2019s life, and in his spiritual walk, and in his time with the Lord.\u00a0 We had gone to camp that summer.\u00a0 We go to Pine Cove, which is a Christian camp.\u00a0 We\u2019ve done that every summer for years.\u00a0 God just laid on Bill\u2019s heart that he was abiding in his job, not in Christ.\u00a0 Bill came and told me that\u2014that summer at camp.\u00a0 That was the summer of 2005.\u00a0 Then, it was that winter when I was having a conversation with Samara\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s your daughter. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s my daughter.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And how old was she at the time?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 At the time, she would have been in the eighth grade\u2014so, that\u2019s 13?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 We told her about the conversations that Bill and I had been having.\u00a0 I said, \u201cWe realize, now, that maybe we could have done some things a bit differently; but we\u2019re going to figure out what God\u2019s future is for us.\u00a0 We\u2019re hoping, maybe in about five years, we can be more intentional in the way we live our lives for God.\u201d\u00a0 I said, \u201cSamara, you know, I just hope and pray that you and Wesley,\u201d her brother,\u201d will figure out sooner than we did that you really do need to figure out what God wants with your life, and not have your own agenda.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSamara looked at me and she said, \u201cWhat do you mean?\u201d\u00a0 She said, \u201cMom, you all are like 40.\u00a0 Your life\u2019s not even half over.\u00a0 If there\u2019s something you\u2019re supposed to do for God, why don\u2019t you and Dad just go do it?\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 Yes, out of the mouth of babes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 It was in January that we got a phone call from FamilyLife.\u00a0 Though my husband and I had put together a five-year exit strategy, on how to leave corporate America five years later to figure out what it is God might want of us, the five years became five months.\u00a0 Five months later, we came to work for FamilyLife.\u00a0 We stepped away from corporate America and all of that stuff, and lives changed.\u00a0 Samara looked at me and said, \u201cWell, of course!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, of course!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 Of course!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 He still works pretty hard up here.\u00a0 Let\u2019s just\u2014[Laughter]\u00a0 I\u2019ve tracked him, and there\u2019s usually a light on in his office when I\u2019m leaving to go home.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, imagine that times a thousand.\u00a0 I\u2019m telling you, the man used to get maybe four hours of sleep a night.\u00a0 He will openly now say, \u201cI\u2019m a recovering workaholic.\u00a0 I have to work at this.\u00a0 Help me.\u201d\u00a0 I know you all keep him accountable.\u00a0 I know he gets sent home at times if he\u2019s here a little too long.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, I know that your book is about being a mom; but that relationship of being a mom comes from the marriage relationship that a mom has with her husband.\u00a0 I just know that you hung in there and did a great job of praying for Bill and making home that which you described as \u201ca soft landing place\u201d.\u00a0 The credibility that gives you, as it comes to the subject of being a mom, is really, I think, much greater than just someone who is solely focused around children.\u00a0 You\u2019re really talking about a marriage that is vibrant, not perfect, but two people who are in the midst of raising the next generation.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI want to go back, now, to the story when you and Bill were finding it difficult for you to get pregnant.\u00a0 You received all kinds of advice.\u00a0 What happened?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, a lot of people said, \u201cJust go on with your life.\u00a0 Wait and see what happens.\u201d\u00a0 So, for a while, we did.\u00a0 I just dove more into my career, and it was a great career.\u00a0 I had ended up with a dream job, working at a country club that had four golf courses.\u00a0 We were in the middle of a membership drive.\u00a0 We had all these wonderful things going on for me at work\u2014but it sort of felt like a promise I thought was made to me had been broken because I always thought I\u2019d be a mom.\u00a0 Suddenly, this, \u201cWell it will be okay.\u00a0 It will all work out,\u201d \u2014it didn\u2019t feel okay.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI went to my grandmother.\u00a0 My grandmother\u2014I always referred to her\u2014she was my Jesus with skin on.\u00a0 She always had her Bible open, and she\u2019s the one that always taught me to love people the way Jesus loved people.\u00a0 She had always told me that love was what was most important.\u00a0 So, that\u2019s how I tried to live my life.\u00a0 I remember just calling her and saying, \u201cGrandma, you know I don\u2019t understand!\u00a0 This is part of what I thought my life was going to be, and now it looks like I\u2019m not going to have children.\u201d\u00a0 I just wept and I said, \u201cWhat am I supposed to do?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tShe said, \u201cTracey, God will either give you the desires of your heart or He\u2019ll make you content.\u201d\u00a0 She just told me that I needed to keep trusting God\u2014that God was good and that I just needed to trust Him.\u00a0 I realized I had a choice to make.\u00a0 So, that was the choice that I decided, \u201cI don\u2019t know what God\u2019s up to.\u00a0 Maybe someday I\u2019m supposed to adopt.\u201d\u00a0 I remember thinking, and reading, and trying to study a little bit about surrogate parenting and how that worked; but then, I also listened to the world.\u00a0 I just thought, \u201cWell, I\u2019ll dive into work.\u00a0 I guess that\u2019s what I should do\u2014just dive into work.\u201d\u00a0 And then, out of the goodness of God\u2014I still don\u2019t understand it\u2014and I still weep for women who have felt those same feelings that I felt, that are not still able to have children\u2014but I was blessed with a pregnancy.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI just remember the day that I found out.\u00a0 I went in for one of the normal tests because they were testing me to see if my temperature would go up\u2014all the things they do about ovulating.\u00a0 They just kept telling me, \u201cYou just don\u2019t ovulate.\u00a0 It\u2019s not going to happen.\u201d\u00a0 I\u2019ll never forget it because I remember where she was standing.\u00a0 I remember I was sitting on the little bench, and she was holding in her hand this little round object that she always did because I had peed in a cup.\u00a0 She was looking at it and she said, \u201cTracey, come here!\u201d\u00a0 I stood up and I walked over there.\u00a0 She just held it out in front of me.\u00a0 I looked down; and instead of just one dot, there were two dots.\u00a0 I looked and I said, \u201cOh!\u00a0 Does that mean I\u2019m ovulating?\u201d\u00a0 I remember getting really excited.\u00a0 She looked at me and she said, \u201cNo; that means you\u2019re pregnant.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Wow.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 Wow.\u00a0 A big wow!\u00a0 The first thing I wanted to do was just scream, and yell, and tell the world; but that was the morning of a day at work.\u00a0 I remember just feeling I had this secret.\u00a0 On my lunch hour, I went alone out to the Intracoastal Waterway\u2014that\u2019s when we lived in Florida.\u00a0 I just remember praying and thanking God.\u00a0 I remember pretty much begging Him, \u201cPlease don\u2019t let anything bad happen,\u201d because I guess that\u2019s the first thing you think of, \u201cSomething bad is going to happen.\u201d\u00a0 Just, \u201cPlease God, please God,\u201d and, \u201cThank you, God,\u201d and, \u201cYou\u2019re good,\u201d and, \u201cNo matter what, this is going to be good,\u201d and, \u201cI\u2019m going to trust You.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAll day long, I kept that secret.\u00a0 Then, I went to the mall; and I bought a tie.\u00a0 That weekend was Father\u2019s Day.\u00a0 Bill came home from work, and the box was laying there on the counter.\u00a0 He looked down and he said, \u201cWhat\u2019s that?\u201d\u00a0 I said, \u201cWell, I got you a gift.\u201d\u00a0 He opened it, and it was a tie.\u00a0 He goes, \u201cA tie? You got me a tie.\u00a0 Why would you get me a tie?\u201d\u00a0 He goes, \u201cThis is a nice tie.\u201d\u00a0 He looked at me real weird.\u00a0 I smiled and I said, \u201cWell, every father needs a tie for Father\u2019s Day.\u201d\u00a0 His face\u2014it just lit up.\u00a0 He grabbed me, and spun me around in a circle, and was so excited, and we were laughing!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI remember him kind of plunking me on the floor and looking at me, wide-eyed and so excited.\u00a0 Then, his face kind of changed a little bit.\u00a0 He goes, \u201cOh, no, what are we going to do?\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 Because, at that point, we were DINKs\u2014dual-income; no kids.\u00a0 We had built this gi-normous house on a golf course\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 With a size mortgage\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 Ooh, yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014that was the same; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 It just\u2014because our lives\u2014we thought\u2014were going in a different direction.\u00a0 So yes, then there was the reality of, \u201cUh-oh.\u00a0 Now what do we do?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And you went to work and told your boss.\u00a0 He went, \u201cOh, my goodness.\u00a0 We had this drive going on, and now\u2014\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes; the gentleman\u2014when I was pregnant\u2014that was my boss\u2014he had five kids.\u00a0 He looked at me and he said, \u201cThere is no way you\u2019re coming back.\u201d\u00a0 I said, \u201cYes, there is.\u201d\u00a0 He goes, \u201cThere is no way.\u201d\u00a0 I kind of pretty much knew I had to, based on our life circumstances, and I loved my job\u2014but once she was born, I remember calling and saying, \u201cI need a few extra weeks.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cYou\u2019re not coming back.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cYes, I am!\u00a0 I just need a few extra weeks.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut the more Bill and I talked about it, we just realized, for me\u2014I\u2019m sort of a go-getter.\u00a0 I knew I couldn\u2019t do both well.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t want to sacrifice either, so I felt like I had to make a choice.\u00a0 Bill and I agreed, and we talked about it.\u00a0 Everything changed.\u00a0 Sold the house, bought a tiny little house, had one heck-of-a-yard sale.\u00a0 I\u2019m sorry to all of my parents\u2019 friends who got me really cool wedding gifts because most of them got sold at a garage sale.\u00a0 [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 But you did the courageous thing at that point.\u00a0 You downsized. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 We downsized, yep.\u00a0 We changed our lifestyle.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You agreed on what you needed to do.\u00a0 Tracey, as I was thinking about you coming in to talk with us, here on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>, I just read Second Corinthians, Chapter 4.\u00a0 I know I\u2019ve read this, who knows how many times, because it\u2019s really a good verse, no matter where you are in life, to read and just be encouraged because that\u2019s what it\u2019s talking about here.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut I thought about you, and I thought about what your book is about\u2014kind of you, as a person, and who you are, as a woman, a wife, and a mom.\u00a0 It reads in Second Corinthians, Chapter 4, verse 1, \u201cTherefore, having this ministry, by the mercy of God, we do not lose heart.\u201d\u00a0 I don\u2019t know that I had ever consciously had the thought that a child is a ministry.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh, yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Now, that may sound kind of like Bob\u2019s comment, at the beginning of the program, when he was talking about\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 A mom is always a mom.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014a mom is always a mom.\u00a0 But you know, I sat there and I thought about that.\u00a0 Being a mother is a ministry, straight from God. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 It is.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And He gives a great privilege of doing that.\u00a0 Paul says, \u201cTherefore, having this ministry, by the mercy of God,\u201d \u2014His goodness\u2014 \u201cwe do not lose heart.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 Amen.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s really what your book is about.\u00a0 It\u2019s what you\u2019re about.\u00a0 You\u2019re about cheering on moms, encouraging them not to lose heart because I think there\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Because there are days; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh, buddy, are there days!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, we\u2019ll talk more about that later on.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think so often, in those moments when you\u2019re in one of those days, just to know that you\u2019re not the first person to ever experience that.\u00a0 You\u2019re not alone.\u00a0 There are other people, right now, who are experiencing what you\u2019re experiencing.\u00a0 It just helps and second, she and Bill found themselves battling with infertility.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 A lot of people said, \u201cJust go on with your life, and wait and see what happens.\u201d\u00a0 So, for a while, we did.\u00a0 I just dove more into my career, and it was a great career.\u00a0 I had a dream job, working at a country club; but it sort of felt like a promise that I thought was made to me had been broken because I always thought I would be a mom.\u00a0 So, suddenly this, \u201cWell, it will be okay.\u00a0 It will all work out,\u201d \u2014it didn\u2019t feel okay.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 This is <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> for Thursday, August 23<sup>rd<\/sup>.\u00a0 Our host is the President of FamilyLife<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, Dennis Rainey, and I'm Bob Lepine.\u00a0\u00a0 Tracey Eyster joins us today to talk about how she dealt with disappointment as a disillusioned young wife.\u00a0 Stay tuned.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd welcome to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>.\u00a0 Thanks for joining us.\u00a0 I have come to a settled conclusion, here, that I would like to share with our listeners; if that\u2019s all right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Is this a confession or a conclusion?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 A conclusion.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Okay.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 The conclusion is that moms never stop being moms.\u00a0 I was just with my 91-year-old mother this morning.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And it took you that long with your mom for you to figure that out?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Just a fresh illustration of this; okay?\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 I\u2019m with her this morning.\u00a0 She\u2019s about to have some furniture moved.\u00a0 I said to her, \u201cMom, I can get some friends and we can move the furniture.\u201d\u00a0 She said, \u201cNo, I\u2019m going to get some professionals to come move it.\u201d\u00a0 I said\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You\u2019re not competent.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I said, \u201cMom, it would be easy.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 She couldn\u2019t trust you to move\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u201cIt would be easy for me to get some guys and we can move it.\u201d\u00a0 She looked at me sternly, \u201cI\u2019m going to get some professionals to move it.\u201d\u00a0 I said, \u201cYes, Mommy,\u201d and that was about all\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Did you ask her how you\u2019d earned this reputation for destroying her furniture?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 No.\u00a0 She just wants to make sure that it\u2019s in the hands of skilled professionals as opposed to me, apparently.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 My mom would point out a ring I left on one of her tables, and that carried all the way through into my adult years.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s why you could not be trusted with furniture.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I could not be trusted with furniture and with a Coke<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> to go into the living room, certainly.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWell, we have the author of a brand-new book called <em>Be the Mom<\/em>.\u00a0 Tracey Eyster joins us on <em>FamilyLife Today.<\/em>\u00a0 Tracey, I\u2019ve been looking forward to having you across the table and having you be a cheerleader for moms.\u00a0 Welcome to the broadcast.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 Thank you.\u00a0 It\u2019s great to be here.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Tracey is the creator and editor of MomLifeToday.com.\u00a0 That is a mom blog, and we\u2019ll talk more about that a little bit later on.\u00a0 She loves horseback riding.\u00a0 I did not know this\u2014hiking and kayaking.\u00a0 She\u2019s been married to Bill, her husband, for 25 years, which I did know; and they have two children.\u00a0 Bill works here at FamilyLife.\u00a0 He is the EVP and COO of FamilyLife.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Some people might not know what that means.\u00a0 What does that mean he does?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 It means that he basically runs the show because I\u2019m usually in here with you, and somebody has got to pay attention to the details.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 [Laughing]\u00a0\u00a0 That is right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>I want to start, not with you being a mom, because there\u2019s a story, even of how that occurred in your marriage\u2014but I want to go all the way back because I know there\u2019s a real story here with you and Bill.\u00a0 How did you meet Bill in the first place?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 Bill and I actually are from the same hometown.\u00a0 It\u2019s a small town in Kentucky.\u00a0 We knew of each other, but we really didn\u2019t meet each other until we were\u2014I was in college and he had just graduated.\u00a0 He moved away because his parents divorced.\u00a0 He moved away when he was nine.\u00a0 So, I\u2019d always heard that name, Bill Eyster.\u00a0 He was sort of infamous.\u00a0 He\u2019s a pastor\u2019s kid.\u00a0 He sort of wreaked havoc in the town\u2014I guess, the typical P.K.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Trouble-making pastor\u2019s kid.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think he was!\u00a0 We met when I was about to be a senior in college, and he had just graduated.\u00a0 We were on a double date, but we were not with each other.\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 Yes, so we did one of those, \u201cOooh, I think that one looks a little more interesting!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And so you both ditched one another\u2019s dates that night?\u00a0 Or was it later?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 No, we just\u2014we had a fondness for each other.\u00a0 I remember I kept telling my friend, \u201cBoy, he\u2019s great.\u00a0 You should go after him.\u00a0 He\u2019s a really great guy.\u201d\u00a0 She said, \u201cWell, he\u2019s like a brother.\u00a0 I just go out with him when he\u2019s in town just because he\u2019s a nice guy.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 That was all you needed.\u00a0 The door was open, right there.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 The door was open, there you go.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, you guys were able to connect permanently and start out your marriage together.\u00a0 You were on a pretty good track yourself, professionally, as was Bill; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 I had a career as a paralegal.\u00a0 I worked for a law firm in south Florida, and it was very specialized.\u00a0 We did equity country club conversions.\u00a0 I ended up, actually, being hired to work for a country club as a membership and marketing director.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI had an amazing career, but there was one part of our life where things weren\u2019t going as we planned because we always thought we would be parents.\u00a0 We had been married for about five years, and I just kept not getting pregnant.\u00a0 We explored with physicians what was going on.\u00a0 I was told that because I had polycystic ovaries, and several tests later, that I didn\u2019t ovulate, I was told that we\u2019d probably never have children.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, I want to come back to that story, in just a moment; but there was something else taking place in your marriage, even after you had children, that put you in a difficult spot because Bill moved on to become an executive with Pratt &amp; Whitney and was on a fast-track with that company, which meant long, long hours and hard work.\u00a0 He kind of left you in the dust; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 At times, he did.\u00a0 He was very driven and focused on his career.\u00a0 He always has been a great husband, but what I would say is there were seasons that were probably longer than they should have been, where he was focused primarily on work.\u00a0 I know that a lot of women have that problem\u2014that they have to learn to deal with, \u201cHow am I still a loving, supportive, involved wife and mom, and not get frustrated by the hours and understand that sometimes at work there are things going on where just a lot is demanded of your husband?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI just made the decision that the world was really hard on Bill, and he needed a soft place.\u00a0 I just made the decision, with God\u2019s help, to just always be his soft place.\u00a0 I never wanted home to be someplace he didn\u2019t want to come because I was complaining or nagging.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 So you didn\u2019t try to raise the flag and say, \u201cHang on here!\u00a0 I\u2019m here and need a little attention.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 We would have discussions; but yet, when there were times it was really hard at work, I felt like it was counter-productive if it was really hard at home, too.\u00a0 I can remember crying and praying, \u201cGod, this isn\u2019t fair,\u201d and, \u201cThis isn\u2019t what I want.\u00a0 I don\u2019t want it this way,\u201d and, \u201cGod, he needs to do this, this, this and this.\u201d\u00a0 God kept telling me, \u201cThat\u2019s not your job.\u00a0 You have enough of your own issues to work out.\u00a0 You work on you; I\u2019ll take care of Bill.\u00a0 You just need to be the soft place for him to come home to.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat\u2019s what I tried to do.\u00a0 I wasn\u2019t perfect.\u00a0 I mean, I had my moments.\u00a0 We used to call them Tracey\u2019s Meetings because, every now and then, I\u2019d say, \u201cBabe, we have to have a meeting!\u201d\u00a0 He\u2019d sit across from me, and I\u2019d sit across from him.\u00a0 There was a lot of crying, but I couldn\u2019t do that every week because then he\u2019d be miserable.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, but you were watching a driven businessman, whose work was probably, truth be known, a little too important to him.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 Mm hmm.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 A little off-center in terms of balance in his life.\u00a0 You were watching it cost him, not only in his relationship with you, but also your children.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And you began to pray and ask God to do a work in Bill\u2019s life.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 I kept praying that God would turn his heart towards home.\u00a0 I had been doing a Beth Moore Bible study, and it was <em>Believing Him.<\/em>\u00a0 I remember that I would just pray over and over, \u201cIf you believe, you will see the glory of God.\u00a0 If you believe, you will see the glory of God.\u201d\u00a0 I just kept praying that and I kept saying, \u201cOkay, God.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know when.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know how, but I know that I\u2019m going to see Your glory through this somehow, somewhere.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, also, some of those conversations\u2014I found specific ways to help us pull apart as a family.\u00a0 Bill had never been a camper.\u00a0 I said, \u201cYou know, if we could go camping once a month, just once a month, where we could pull away from the world and be together as just a family.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 He\u2019d never been camping.\u00a0 He\u2019s 6\u20195\u201d and weighs 220 pounds.\u00a0 The last thing he wanted to do was go camping; but we explored that opportunity, and we did.\u00a0 Again, that\u2019s part of that intentional\u2014we pull away, once a month, no matter what, and we would go camping.\u00a0 It kind of cemented us back together as a family.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd then, the Friday night date nights\u2014he was exhausted by the time Friday got there.\u00a0 So, I lowered my expectations of, \u201cI don\u2019t need to go <em>out<\/em> somewhere.\u201d\u00a0 I thought I was lowering my expectations but it became so much sweeter because he would stop and get something on the way home, and we would have date night at home.\u00a0 The kids would eat pizza and watch a movie.\u00a0 To this day\u2014it was less than a month ago, the kids were talking about that and laughing about how they used to remember that they\u2019d sneak up the stairs from the basement and peek out the window and watch us having our date night.\u00a0 They\u2019d see us talking and the candles.\u00a0 I can recall times when they would giggle, \u201cAre you kissing yet?\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tEven that little intentionality\u2014I don\u2019t know, it showed that he cared and he was trying.\u00a0 He probably couldn\u2019t do it as much as I wanted to, but there were enough times of intentional togetherness that I guess it got us over the rough spots.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And God finally did show you His glory. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 How did that happen?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, oddly enough, as I was praying about\u2014hoping that God would turn Bill\u2019s heart towards home\u2014there was a lot going on in Bill\u2019s life, and in his spiritual walk, and in his time with the Lord.\u00a0 We had gone to camp that summer.\u00a0 We go to Pine Cove, which is a Christian camp.\u00a0 We\u2019ve done that every summer for years.\u00a0 God just laid on Bill\u2019s heart that he was abiding in his job, not in Christ.\u00a0 Bill came and told me that\u2014that summer at camp.\u00a0 That was the summer of 2005.\u00a0 Then, it was that winter when I was having a conversation with Samara\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s your daughter. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s my daughter.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And how old was she at the time?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 At the time, she would have been in the eighth grade\u2014so, that\u2019s 13?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 We told her about the conversations that Bill and I had been having.\u00a0 I said, \u201cWe realize, now, that maybe we could have done some things a bit differently; but we\u2019re going to figure out what God\u2019s future is for us.\u00a0 We\u2019re hoping, maybe in about five years, we can be more intentional in the way we live our lives for God.\u201d\u00a0 I said, \u201cSamara, you know, I just hope and pray that you and Wesley,\u201d her brother,\u201d will figure out sooner than we did that you really do need to figure out what God wants with your life, and not have your own agenda.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSamara looked at me and she said, \u201cWhat do you mean?\u201d\u00a0 She said, \u201cMom, you all are like 40.\u00a0 Your life\u2019s not even half over.\u00a0 If there\u2019s something you\u2019re supposed to do for God, why don\u2019t you and Dad just go do it?\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 Yes, out of the mouth of babes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 It was in January that we got a phone call from FamilyLife.\u00a0 Though my husband and I had put together a five-year exit strategy, on how to leave corporate America five years later to figure out what it is God might want of us, the five years became five months.\u00a0 Five months later, we came to work for FamilyLife.\u00a0 We stepped away from corporate America and all of that stuff, and lives changed.\u00a0 Samara looked at me and said, \u201cWell, of course!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, of course!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 Of course!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 He still works pretty hard up here.\u00a0 Let\u2019s just\u2014[Laughter]\u00a0 I\u2019ve tracked him, and there\u2019s usually a light on in his office when I\u2019m leaving to go home.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, imagine that times a thousand.\u00a0 I\u2019m telling you, the man used to get maybe four hours of sleep a night.\u00a0 He will openly now say, \u201cI\u2019m a recovering workaholic.\u00a0 I have to work at this.\u00a0 Help me.\u201d\u00a0 I know you all keep him accountable.\u00a0 I know he gets sent home at times if he\u2019s here a little too long.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, I know that your book is about being a mom; but that relationship of being a mom comes from the marriage relationship that a mom has with her husband.\u00a0 I just know that you hung in there and did a great job of praying for Bill and making home that which you described as \u201ca soft landing place\u201d.\u00a0 The credibility that gives you, as it comes to the subject of being a mom, is really, I think, much greater than just someone who is solely focused around children.\u00a0 You\u2019re really talking about a marriage that is vibrant, not perfect, but two people who are in the midst of raising the next generation.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI want to go back, now, to the story when you and Bill were finding it difficult for you to get pregnant.\u00a0 You received all kinds of advice.\u00a0 What happened?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, a lot of people said, \u201cJust go on with your life.\u00a0 Wait and see what happens.\u201d\u00a0 So, for a while, we did.\u00a0 I just dove more into my career, and it was a great career.\u00a0 I had ended up with a dream job, working at a country club that had four golf courses.\u00a0 We were in the middle of a membership drive.\u00a0 We had all these wonderful things going on for me at work\u2014but it sort of felt like a promise I thought was made to me had been broken because I always thought I\u2019d be a mom.\u00a0 Suddenly, this, \u201cWell it will be okay.\u00a0 It will all work out,\u201d \u2014it didn\u2019t feel okay.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI went to my grandmother.\u00a0 My grandmother\u2014I always referred to her\u2014she was my Jesus with skin on.\u00a0 She always had her Bible open, and she\u2019s the one that always taught me to love people the way Jesus loved people.\u00a0 She had always told me that love was what was most important.\u00a0 So, that\u2019s how I tried to live my life.\u00a0 I remember just calling her and saying, \u201cGrandma, you know I don\u2019t understand!\u00a0 This is part of what I thought my life was going to be, and now it looks like I\u2019m not going to have children.\u201d\u00a0 I just wept and I said, \u201cWhat am I supposed to do?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tShe said, \u201cTracey, God will either give you the desires of your heart or He\u2019ll make you content.\u201d\u00a0 She just told me that I needed to keep trusting God\u2014that God was good and that I just needed to trust Him.\u00a0 I realized I had a choice to make.\u00a0 So, that was the choice that I decided, \u201cI don\u2019t know what God\u2019s up to.\u00a0 Maybe someday I\u2019m supposed to adopt.\u201d\u00a0 I remember thinking, and reading, and trying to study a little bit about surrogate parenting and how that worked; but then, I also listened to the world.\u00a0 I just thought, \u201cWell, I\u2019ll dive into work.\u00a0 I guess that\u2019s what I should do\u2014just dive into work.\u201d\u00a0 And then, out of the goodness of God\u2014I still don\u2019t understand it\u2014and I still weep for women who have felt those same feelings that I felt, that are not still able to have children\u2014but I was blessed with a pregnancy.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI just remember the day that I found out.\u00a0 I went in for one of the normal tests because they were testing me to see if my temperature would go up\u2014all the things they do about ovulating.\u00a0 They just kept telling me, \u201cYou just don\u2019t ovulate.\u00a0 It\u2019s not going to happen.\u201d\u00a0 I\u2019ll never forget it because I remember where she was standing.\u00a0 I remember I was sitting on the little bench, and she was holding in her hand this little round object that she always did because I had peed in a cup.\u00a0 She was looking at it and she said, \u201cTracey, come here!\u201d\u00a0 I stood up and I walked over there.\u00a0 She just held it out in front of me.\u00a0 I looked down; and instead of just one dot, there were two dots.\u00a0 I looked and I said, \u201cOh!\u00a0 Does that mean I\u2019m ovulating?\u201d\u00a0 I remember getting really excited.\u00a0 She looked at me and she said, \u201cNo; that means you\u2019re pregnant.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Wow.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 Wow.\u00a0 A big wow!\u00a0 The first thing I wanted to do was just scream, and yell, and tell the world; but that was the morning of a day at work.\u00a0 I remember just feeling I had this secret.\u00a0 On my lunch hour, I went alone out to the Intracoastal Waterway\u2014that\u2019s when we lived in Florida.\u00a0 I just remember praying and thanking God.\u00a0 I remember pretty much begging Him, \u201cPlease don\u2019t let anything bad happen,\u201d because I guess that\u2019s the first thing you think of, \u201cSomething bad is going to happen.\u201d\u00a0 Just, \u201cPlease God, please God,\u201d and, \u201cThank you, God,\u201d and, \u201cYou\u2019re good,\u201d and, \u201cNo matter what, this is going to be good,\u201d and, \u201cI\u2019m going to trust You.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAll day long, I kept that secret.\u00a0 Then, I went to the mall; and I bought a tie.\u00a0 That weekend was Father\u2019s Day.\u00a0 Bill came home from work, and the box was laying there on the counter.\u00a0 He looked down and he said, \u201cWhat\u2019s that?\u201d\u00a0 I said, \u201cWell, I got you a gift.\u201d\u00a0 He opened it, and it was a tie.\u00a0 He goes, \u201cA tie? You got me a tie.\u00a0 Why would you get me a tie?\u201d\u00a0 He goes, \u201cThis is a nice tie.\u201d\u00a0 He looked at me real weird.\u00a0 I smiled and I said, \u201cWell, every father needs a tie for Father\u2019s Day.\u201d\u00a0 His face\u2014it just lit up.\u00a0 He grabbed me, and spun me around in a circle, and was so excited, and we were laughing!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI remember him kind of plunking me on the floor and looking at me, wide-eyed and so excited.\u00a0 Then, his face kind of changed a little bit.\u00a0 He goes, \u201cOh, no, what are we going to do?\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 Because, at that point, we were DINKs\u2014dual-income; no kids.\u00a0 We had built this gi-normous house on a golf course\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 With a size mortgage\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 Ooh, yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014that was the same; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 It just\u2014because our lives\u2014we thought\u2014were going in a different direction.\u00a0 So yes, then there was the reality of, \u201cUh-oh.\u00a0 Now what do we do?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And you went to work and told your boss.\u00a0 He went, \u201cOh, my goodness.\u00a0 We had this drive going on, and now\u2014\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes; the gentleman\u2014when I was pregnant\u2014that was my boss\u2014he had five kids.\u00a0 He looked at me and he said, \u201cThere is no way you\u2019re coming back.\u201d\u00a0 I said, \u201cYes, there is.\u201d\u00a0 He goes, \u201cThere is no way.\u201d\u00a0 I kind of pretty much knew I had to, based on our life circumstances, and I loved my job\u2014but once she was born, I remember calling and saying, \u201cI need a few extra weeks.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cYou\u2019re not coming back.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cYes, I am!\u00a0 I just need a few extra weeks.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut the more Bill and I talked about it, we just realized, for me\u2014I\u2019m sort of a go-getter.\u00a0 I knew I couldn\u2019t do both well.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t want to sacrifice either, so I felt like I had to make a choice.\u00a0 Bill and I agreed, and we talked about it.\u00a0 Everything changed.\u00a0 Sold the house, bought a tiny little house, had one heck-of-a-yard sale.\u00a0 I\u2019m sorry to all of my parents\u2019 friends who got me really cool wedding gifts because most of them got sold at a garage sale.\u00a0 [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 But you did the courageous thing at that point.\u00a0 You downsized. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 We downsized, yep.\u00a0 We changed our lifestyle.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You agreed on what you needed to do.\u00a0 Tracey, as I was thinking about you coming in to talk with us, here on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>, I just read Second Corinthians, Chapter 4.\u00a0 I know I\u2019ve read this, who knows how many times, because it\u2019s really a good verse, no matter where you are in life, to read and just be encouraged because that\u2019s what it\u2019s talking about here.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut I thought about you, and I thought about what your book is about\u2014kind of you, as a person, and who you are, as a woman, a wife, and a mom.\u00a0 It reads in Second Corinthians, Chapter 4, verse 1, \u201cTherefore, having this ministry, by the mercy of God, we do not lose heart.\u201d\u00a0 I don\u2019t know that I had ever consciously had the thought that a child is a ministry.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh, yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Now, that may sound kind of like Bob\u2019s comment, at the beginning of the program, when he was talking about\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 A mom is always a mom.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014a mom is always a mom.\u00a0 But you know, I sat there and I thought about that.\u00a0 Being a mother is a ministry, straight from God. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 It is.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And He gives a great privilege of doing that.\u00a0 Paul says, \u201cTherefore, having this ministry, by the mercy of God,\u201d \u2014His goodness\u2014 \u201cwe do not lose heart.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Tracey:<\/strong>\u00a0 Amen.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s really what your book is about.\u00a0 It\u2019s what you\u2019re about.\u00a0 You\u2019re about cheering on moms, encouraging them not to lose heart because I think there\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Because there are days;
