do you think?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Woman 1:<\/strong>\u00a0 It\u2019s the little sacrifices that he makes for me on a daily basis.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Woman 2:<\/strong>\u00a0 Romantic?\u00a0 What\u2019s that?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Woman 3:<\/strong>\u00a0 He did all the wash.\u00a0 He cleaned the kitchen.\u00a0 That is romantic.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 This is <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> for Wednesday, June 20<sup>th<\/sup>.\u00a0 Our host is the President of FamilyLife<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, Dennis Rainey, and I'm Bob Lepine.\u00a0\u00a0 We\u2019ll offer some remedial romantic help for all married couples on today\u2019s program.\u00a0 Stay tuned. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd welcome to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>.\u00a0 Thanks for joining us on the Wednesday edition.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u00a0What would a cruise in the Caribbean be, Bob, if it didn\u2019t have a message on romance by Dr. Love?\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 That\u2019s you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, here\u2019s the thing.\u00a0 It\u2019s Valentine\u2019s week.\u00a0 This was back in February of this year.\u00a0 We had our 2012 <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em><em><sup>\u2122<\/sup><\/em> marriage cruise.\u00a0 Voddie Baucham was onboard.\u00a0 You and I were onboard the boat.\u00a0 We had the whole ship to ourselves.\u00a0 Everybody on the ship with us was there for the FamilyLife <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em> marriage cruise.\u00a0 Sold out\u2014great music\u2014that was a part of it, and it was Valentine\u2019s week.\u00a0 I thought to myself, \u201cYou know, if I\u2019m looking at my own batting average, over Valentine\u2019s Days of yore\u2014\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And that would be\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u201430.\u00a0 Well, if you count the dating years\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019m not talking about the dating years.\u00a0 I\u2019m talking about your batting average.\u00a0 What\u2019s your batting average?\u00a0 Are you hitting 300?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 If you go all the way back to the dating years, I was better in my rookie seasons than as things went along.\u00a0 You know what I mean?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think we need to call Mary Ann and find out what your batting average is.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 But, here we are\u2014I just thought, \u201cWe all need a little message on understanding how we can do a better job of being romantic.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And so you gave folks a message called \u201cRomance for Dummies\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0 You started out with\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I didn\u2019t mean to be offensive with it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014ten tips for the romantically-challenged.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>I have to tell you, Bob, I thought this was really good.\u00a0 It was a good way to start out.\u00a0 People had traveled all day; didn\u2019t you?\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 You thought, \u201cI am so good this year!\u201d\u00a0 You have muffed some other years, but this year you can\u2019t lose.\u00a0 I am here to tell you, \u201cYes, you can still lose.\u201d\u00a0 You can be on the <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em> cruise and still lose on Valentine\u2019s Day; okay?\u00a0 The reason for that is because, unless you do something on the day, it doesn\u2019t count.\u00a0 You can\u2019t accrue points.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLook, I\u2019ve got a lot to unpack with you here.\u00a0 So, we\u2019re going to start off.\u00a0 Now, here\u2019s the problem.\u00a0 We need to start by defining romance.\u00a0 What is it we\u2019re talking about when we\u2019re talking about romance?\u00a0 What\u2019s our definition?\u00a0 I went to the dictionary.\u00a0 The dictionary defines romance as \u201can ardent emotional attachment or involvement between two people\u201d.\u00a0 An ardent emotional attachment or involvement\u2014I thought, \u201cThat\u2019s okay.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnother dictionary said it\u2019s\u201da pleasurable feeling of excitement and mystery, associated with love\u201d.\u00a0 Now, that\u2019s a little better; but here\u2019s my definition:\u00a0 \u201cRomance is this feeling of euphoria or delight that comes over you when somebody admires you, or values you, or makes you feel special or desirable.\u201d\u00a0 You\u2019ve had that feeling; right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut, honestly, what we know about romance doesn\u2019t really come as much from dictionaries or from magazines.\u00a0 Most of what we know about romance comes from what we see on big screens or on small screens; right?\u00a0 Have you noticed, in some of these movies, when the mood is right, all of a sudden, these people just break out in song and start singing to one another?\u00a0 You\u2019ve seen that; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI thought, \u201cI have never done that with Mary Ann.\u201d\u00a0 We\u2019ve been married for 32 years; I don\u2019t think I\u2019ve ever just spontaneously broken out into song and sung a love song to her in the middle of nowhere.\u00a0 I thought, \u201cMaybe, we should try that.\u201d\u00a0 So, what we\u2019re going to do to start off tonight is\u2014we\u2019re going to sing love songs to each other; okay?\u00a0 I\u2019m going to get this guitar, and we\u2019re going to sing a couple of love songs to each other.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI asked Mary Ann if she thought this was a good idea; and she said, \u201cAre you going to sing <em>Let Me Call You Sweetheart<\/em>?\u201d\u00a0 I said, \u201cThese are not old people.\u201d\u00a0 She said, \u201cBut it\u2019s such a sweet song.\u201d\u00a0 Who is the lady that just went, \u201cOohh!\u201d down here?\u00a0 One of you just did.\u00a0 Yes; are we there?\u00a0 Are we feeling more romantic?\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 See how it does it?\u00a0 You just start singing to one another.\u00a0 So, on the rest of the cruise, if things are not going so well, you just break out into song.\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 You\u2019re in a restaurant\u2014wherever you are\u2014you just break out into song.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHere\u2019s the thing about romance.\u00a0 When we have the feeling, we find ourselves thinking, \u201cI sure would like to have that feeling again.\u201d\u00a0 If you\u2019re married\u2014in fact, you thought, \u201cWhen you get married, it\u2019s just going to come flooding my way.\u201d\u00a0 Then, when you get married and that doesn\u2019t happen, you go, \u201cWhat\u2019s wrong?\u00a0 I\u2019m not getting it.\u201d\u00a0 You think, \u201cMaybe, if we went on a cruise.\u201d\u00a0 We\u2019re going to see if Doctor Love can help you tonight.\u00a0 I\u2019m here as Doctor Love with \u201cDoctor Love\u2019s Basic Romantic Principles\u201d for tonight.\u00a0 Are you ready?\u00a0 This could really help you out of a jam, throughout the rest of the cruise.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBy the way, I should tell you some of these principles\u2014I went to our staff.\u00a0 We have about 300 great staff, who work at FamilyLife, back in Little Rock.\u00a0 I sent an email to all of them and I said, \u201cI\u2019m going to be sharing some basic romantic tips with folks on the cruise.\u00a0 I want some help from you.\u201d\u00a0 So, some of these come from our staff\u2014they sent emails back with some of their advice.\u00a0 And a disclaimer\u2014some of these are <em>generally<\/em> true, but not <em>always<\/em> true.\u00a0 We\u2019ll test them out on you.\u00a0 If it\u2019s not true for you, you tell me; okay?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHere\u2019s the first one for guys.\u00a0 Tip number one:\u00a0 Don\u2019t try to reduce romance to a formula.\u00a0 This one actually comes from Barbara Rainey.\u00a0 She was on a <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> program, and she was telling me about Dennis.\u00a0 She said, \u201cHere\u2019s how it worked with Dennis.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tShe said, \u201cWe\u2019ll go out some night, and we\u2019ll have dinner at a nice place.\u00a0 Then, we\u2019ll go for a walk after dinner.\u00a0 We\u2019ll just talk, as we have a nice walk together.\u00a0 It\u2019s just a nice evening, and we\u2019ll go back home and we\u2019ll have sex.\u201d\u00a0 She said, \u201cThen, about a week later, Dennis will go, \u2018Hey, you want to go back to that restaurant; okay?\u201d [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tShe goes, \u201cI know it\u2019s not about the food.\u00a0 I know exactly what he\u2019s thinking when he does that,\u201d because Barbara says that guys are trying to find the equation.\u00a0 It\u2019s the, \u201cLet\u2019s see. Restaurant, plus walk, plus moon, plus warm equals sex.\u00a0 Yes!\u00a0 I\u2019ve got the equation down.\u201d\u00a0 So, then, you come back around and you go, \u201cWant to go to the restaurant?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tShe said, \u201cHere\u2019s the thing:\u00a0 Women don\u2019t want to be figured out.\u00a0 They don\u2019t want it reduced to a formula.\u00a0 They want it to be mysterious and spontaneous.\u00a0 If you think it\u2019s a formula, that\u2019s a buzz killer for women.\u201d\u00a0 And I just go, \u201cThat\u2019s just mean for women\u2014okay?\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 \u201cI mean, we\u2019re <em>trying<\/em>; right?\u201d\u00a0 But it just doesn\u2019t work that way. So don\u2019t try to reduce romance to a formula.\u00a0 That\u2019s number one.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNumber two is kind of like that.\u00a0 It is, \u201cYou need to be spontaneous, and creative, and original.\u00a0 Some of us are not really spontaneous, and creative, and original when it comes to romance.\u00a0 We\u2019re challenged in that area.\u00a0 I tried this out with a friend of mine.\u00a0 I said, \u201cDo you think that\u2019s true\u2014that we need to be spontaneous, and creative, and original?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe said, \u201cYes, I think that\u2019s true,\u201d but he said, \u201cexcept on Valentine\u2019s Day.\u201d\u00a0 He said, \u201cOn Valentine\u2019s Day,\u201d which he described and I wrote it down, \u201cthe most un-spontaneous, arbitrary, un-original, commercial-fostered, faux romance day of the year.\u201d\u00a0 He said, \u201cOn that day, whatever else you do, there better be flowers and chocolates, or you will go directly to jail\u2014do not pass Go; do not collect $200\u2014and don\u2019t plan to collect anything else that day;\u201d okay?\u00a0 So I don\u2019t know what you\u2019re going to do for chocolate and flowers tomorrow, but that\u2019s what you\u2019ve got to do\u2014so, spontaneous, creative, original\u2014that\u2019s number two.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNumber three\u2014and this was shared from a friend.\u00a0 He said, \u201cIf your wife\u2019s birthday is during the week, and you decide to celebrate it the weekend before\u2014and you take her to a nice restaurant, and you have an expensive gift, and you have a deep and meaningful conversation\u2014if you don\u2019t give her a card on <em>the<\/em> day, you\u2019ve still failed at everything.\u201d\u00a0 Okay?\u00a0 You\u2019ve got to acknowledge, somehow, <em>the<\/em> day.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, guys, a little help here.\u00a0 Tomorrow morning, when you wake up, the first thing you should say is, \u201cHappy Valentine\u2019s Day, Sweetheart.\u201d\u00a0 Okay?\u00a0 Let\u2019s practice that.\u00a0 Guys, say it with me, \u201cHappy Valentine\u2019s Day, Sweetheart.\u201d\u00a0 Okay, go ahead and say\u2014look at your spouse right now and say, \u201cYou\u2019re my one and only Valentine.\u201d\u00a0 Just say that.\u00a0 Okay, that does you no good for tomorrow; okay?\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 First of all, you didn\u2019t get a point because I had to coach you into saying it.\u00a0 Secondly, it\u2019s not Valentine\u2019s Day yet.\u00a0 So, tomorrow morning, first thing, it better be all about \u201cmy Valentine\u201d.\u00a0 I\u2019m just trying to help you out here.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNumber four:\u00a0 Using the words, \u201cyour mother\u201d, in a sentence is guaranteed to end any romantic feelings that may have been developing.\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 Not only \u201cyour mother\u201d, but also, \u201cI told you so,\u201d does not create a romantic buzz; okay?\u00a0 Avoid those words.\u00a0 Somebody put it in a poem this way:\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<em>To keep your marriage brimming,<\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<em>With love in the loving cup,<\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<em>When you\u2019re wrong admit it, <\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<em>And when you\u2019re right, shut up<\/em>.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNumber five:\u00a0 If your wife is wearing two different shoes, and she\u2019s lifting her feet, like this, and she asks you, \u201cWhich one looks better on me?\u201d the first thing you should do is pray because you have less than a 50-50 chance of getting this right.\u00a0 I know you\u2019re thinking, \u201cNo, there\u2019s at least a 50-50 chance.\u00a0 She\u2019s only got two feet.\u201d\u00a0 But the thing is\u2014she is not really asking what you think.\u00a0 She is asking to see if you will be able to secretly pick the one, she has already decided in her own mind, that she thinks is the right one.\u00a0 If you should pick the one that she thinks was the right one, she will now reconsider her choice because you picked it.\u00a0 She thinks, \u201cThat can\u2019t be right if he thought that was the right one.\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 That\u2019s true; isn\u2019t it?\u00a0 Am I right?\u00a0 I\u2019m right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAlright\u2014here\u2019s number six.\u00a0 This works both ways.\u00a0 What seems romantic to you may not actually be romantic to your spouse, and vice versa.\u00a0 This is where Dr. Gary Chapman\u2019s book, <em>The Five Love Languages<\/em>, really does come in helpful.\u00a0 Dr. Chapman says that, in our marriages, we wind up speaking foreign languages to one another, often, because he says there are five primary ways that we express love to one another.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne way is through physical touch\u2014holding hands, playing with your hair, back rubs.\u00a0 Two is things like acts of service.\u00a0 It\u2019s where you do things designed to help me out\u2014doing the dishes, helping out around the house, or just folding the laundry\u2014those kinds of things.\u00a0 Number three\u2014words of affirmation\u2014saying tender, sweet things.\u00a0 Number four is gifts, and number five is quality time together.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow let\u2019s say your love language is words of affirmation.\u00a0 You love to have somebody say to you, \u201cYou\u2019re really special.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cYou\u2019re so meaningful.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cYou look handsome,\u201d\u2014those kinds of things.\u00a0 You love that.\u00a0 So, you think, in order to express love to your spouse, you need to do those things; but if your spouse\u2019s primary love language is acts of service, you can say all the affirming words you want, and unless you\u2019re picking up a broom, it ain\u2019t doing anybody any good; okay?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou have to understand how we speak one another\u2019s love languages.\u00a0 You have to understand what we value with one another.\u00a0 In fact, a coworker told this story.\u00a0 I thought this was good.\u00a0 He said, \u201cMy wife and I are very different.\u00a0 We complete one another in some great ways.\u201d He said, \u201cOne of those ways we complete one another is that she tends to be very practical, very logical.\u201d\u00a0 He said, \u201cThat\u2019s not my natural wiring.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cBack in 1985, when we were dating,\u201d he said, \u201cwe were living in Chicago.\u00a0 I decided to really blow it out on her birthday\u2014do something really special.\u201d\u00a0 He said, \u201cI scored good tickets to see <em>Cats<\/em> at the Shubert Theater, preceded by dinner at the Pump Room, and I bestowed two special gifts that night, before we went to see the play.\u00a0 Here we are at a fancy restaurant.\u00a0 I had two gifts for her.\u201d\u00a0 The first gift he gave her was <em>Old Possum\u2019s Book of Practical Cats.<\/em><em>\u00a0 <\/em>That\u2019s the book by T.S. Eliot on which the musical that they were going to go see is based.\u00a0 He gave that to her, and she smiled.\u00a0 That was nice.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, he gave her the second gift.\u00a0 He said, \u201cI thought this was the real piece d\u2019r\u00e9sistance.\u00a0 I could not wait for her to open it.\u201d\u00a0 He said, \u201cDo you remember the International Star Registry, that group that allows you to name a star after somebody?\u201d\u00a0 You know that group?\u00a0 He said, \u201cI thought this was the height of romance, naming a star after my wife.\u00a0 Understand, I knew I wasn\u2019t really naming the star forever for her; but I figured it was kind of a cosmic, romantic gesture.\u00a0 He says, \u201cHa! My then-girlfriend, now-wife, opened it up, took a look at it, and said, \u2018You didn\u2019t actually pay money for this stupid thing; did you?\u2019\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 He said, \u201cThere\u2019s really no good answer to that question, when she asks you that.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut, then, I had another coworker whose wife is also practical and logical.\u00a0 He wrote to me and he said, \u201cEven though your wife says she would prefer a potted plant because they live longer, there\u2019s something about the smile she gets on her face when there are roses on her desk that tells you she really does like the roses.\u201d\u00a0 So, you\u2019d better know the person you\u2019re trying to express romance to because it can\u2019t be a formula.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHere\u2019s another one\u2014number seven:\u00a0 Never buy a gift for Valentine\u2019s Day, an anniversary, or birthday that can be plugged into the wall.\u00a0 If it has a plug on it, take it back, now.\u00a0 A guy wrote to me and he said, \u201cWhen I was first dating my wife, her roommate, Val, who was a cook, received, as a birthday gift from her boyfriend, who was the doctor, the most expensive Cuisinart food processor I have ever seen in my life.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cI was the only one in the room who was impressed.\u201d\u00a0 This was my guy friend.\u00a0 He said, \u201cMy wife and Val could not believe how insensitive that gift was.\u00a0 Boy!\u2014was I confused!\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, I asked Mary Ann about that; and she said, \u201cI\u2019d be fine with the expensive Cuisinart food processor if you want to get me that.\u201d\u00a0 So people are different; but in general, guys, a handy dandy kitchen gadget is not seen as a romantic thing.\u00a0 I know you think a socket set would be the perfect romantic gift for Valentine\u2019s Day.\u00a0 That\u2019s just because we\u2019re different on that; alright?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHere\u2019s number eight.\u00a0 A friend wrote to me and he said, \u201cThe best piece of advice I got was from an elderly gentleman, on my wedding day.\u201d\u00a0 He said, \u201cI had no clue who he was; but he came through the reception line, pointed a shaky finger toward my face, and said, \u2018Just keep doing whatever you were doing that made her fall in love with you in the first place, and you\u2019ll be alright.\u2019\u201d\u00a0 He said, \u201cThat\u2019s pretty good counsel.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou know, it\u2019s interesting.\u00a0 We interviewed, this year, a pastor from Houston, Texas.\u00a0 He had retired from the pastorate.\u00a0 He was telling us that when he sits with couples who say, \u201cWe just don\u2019t have the feelings we used to have,\u201d he takes them to Revelation, Chapter 2.\u00a0 I thought, \u201cReally?\u00a0 Marriage advice from Jesus\u2019 instructions to the seven churches in the book of Revelation?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut the first church, in the book of Revelation, is the church at Ephesus.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know if you remember this church, but they were doctrinally sound.\u00a0 They were trying to do all the right things.\u00a0 They were not falling into heresy; but Jesus said this\u2014He said, \u201cI have this one thing against you.\u00a0 You have lost\u2014\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 What?\u00a0 \u201c\u2014your first love.\u201d This church was going through the motions, but they were no longer passionate in their love for Jesus.\u00a0 Jesus says, \u201cHere\u2019s what you do.\u00a0 You repent, and you do the things you did at first.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThis pastor said, \u201cI think that\u2019s pretty good marriage advice.\u00a0 In those times when you just don\u2019t have the feelings, repent and do the things you did at first.\u00a0 Just start doing some of the things\u2014go to some of the places you used to go.\u201d\u00a0 How long has it been since you played putt-putt; right?\u00a0 Some of you are going, \u201cThat would be stupid.\u201d\u00a0 Try it!\u00a0 Go out and play some putt-putt.\u00a0 Mary Ann and I, on our first date\u2014we went to Target.\u00a0 So, I take her out there all the time.\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0\u00a0 That doesn\u2019t have quite the same effect.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNumber nine:\u00a0 Laugh together.\u00a0 Laughing together promotes romance.\u00a0 You are never more attractive than when you are happy, and joyful, and laughing.\u00a0 You\u2019re more attractive then than when you\u2019re grumpy and distracted.\u00a0 Now, in that same vein, being grumpy or distracted is not a turn-on.\u00a0 Just let me give you some words of advice.\u00a0 Nobody sees an angry, grumpy person and goes, \u201cOh, I am just so drawn to you right now.\u00a0 I just want to be with you.\u00a0 You are just making my heart pitter patter;\u201d right?\u00a0 We want to get out of the room.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen somebody is distracted\u2014you\u2019ve seen that commercial on TV; right?\u2014where they are having a conversation, and the guy is checking the scores on his cell phone; and the woman is so ticked by that.\u00a0 Distracted is not good for romance.\u00a0 Guys, listen.\u00a0 \u201cRomance for dummies\u201d\u2014I\u2019ve had to learn some of these the hard way.\u00a0 When I would travel, sometimes, and I would call Mary Ann from wherever I was traveling, I learned pretty soon that when you call her, you at least need to put the TV on mute so she doesn\u2019t hear it in the background while you\u2019re having the conversation.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut, then, I learned that when the TV is on mute, and you\u2019re watching the sports, and she\u2019s talking about whatever it was that she was talking about because I don\u2019t really remember it.\u00a0 I wasn\u2019t really paying attention;
