Yeah!\u201d; and the women read the part that\u2019s to the men, and go, \u201cYeah!\u201d\u00a0 So, today, we need the men to listen carefully.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I have a feeling, after we heard the first half of the message, earlier\u2014this message was given by Voddie Baucham on the <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em><sup>\u2122<\/sup>cruise, back over Valentine\u2019s Day\u2014a five-day cruise that we had that was really outstanding.\u00a0 This is the kind of teaching that you get.\u00a0 In fact, Voddie is coming back next year.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 He\u2019ll be on the cruise.\u00a0 In fact, Voddie\u2014Dr. Eric Mason is going to be joining us, Priscilla Shirer is with us.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You are going to be speaking; and you have to get in touch with us before Monday, June 25<sup>th<\/sup>.\u00a0 So call us at 1-800-FL-TODAY; or go online at FamilyLifeToday.com.\u00a0 Plan to be with us for the <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em> marriage cruise.\u00a0 Again, the website: FamilyLifeToday.com, or call 1-800-\u201cF\u201d as in family, \u201cL\u201d as in life, and then the word, \u201cTODAY\u201d. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAs you mentioned, Dennis, Voddie Baucham, on this year\u2019s cruise, spoke from Ephesians, Chapter 5.\u00a0 We\u2019ve already heard Part One of the message, where he talked to wives about respecting and submitting.\u00a0 Yes, he used the \u201csubmission\u201d word.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 He did, and I can imagine there were a few wives from that broadcast who called their husbands and said, \u201cYou make sure you listen to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014to Part Two.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Exactly!\u00a0 \u201cIf it\u2019s as strong as that was to me, I want <em>you<\/em> to hear that.\u201d\u00a0 And it was equally strong.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Here is Voddie Baucham, taking us to Ephesians, Chapter 5, and God\u2019s design for husbands.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Recorded Message]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Voddie:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u201cHusbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her;\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 \u201cthat He might sanctify her,\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 That means to set her apart for Himself.\u00a0 That would be a picture of Christ\u2019s headship over His body.\u00a0 \u201chaving cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that He might present the church to Himself,\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, not only has He set her apart, but He is now bringing her to Himself\u2014unity in Christ\u2019s body, \u201cin splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish,\u201d\u2014which would bring glory to the head.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cHusbands, love your wives because, if you love your wife, then she\u2019ll respond to you appropriately.\u201d\u00a0 No!\u00a0 \u201cLove your wife for the love of Christ.\u201d\u00a0 I will not tell you to love your wife so that she\u2019ll respond to you appropriately because here\u2019s what I know.\u00a0 In the real world, there will be times when you love your wife and she doesn\u2019t respond appropriately.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf you love your wife in order to get something back from her\u2014number one\u2014you have completely missed the idea of these indicatives and imperatives.\u00a0 Number two, you will stop doing what you\u2019ve been commanded to do because the throne of your life is occupied by you and your pleasure and not by Christ.\u00a0 But, if you are called to love your wife in this way, because of Christ\u2019s headship over His body and the unity in His body, and the glory that the body gives to its head, then I can say to you in no uncertain terms, you love your wife because she belongs to Christ.\u00a0 It is your desire for this daughter of God to be more sanctified and more like Jesus as a result of having been married to you than she would have, had she not.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf she never reciprocates, you continue to give that to her nonetheless because you do it for the love of Christ, not for what you get out of it.\u00a0 By the way, that may not sound pleasant to you; but can I ask you something?\u00a0 When am I more like Jesus?\u2014when I am loving my wife and getting everything in return that I want, or when I am dying for a bride who doesn\u2019t even have sense enough to know that that\u2019s why I am laying down my life?\u00a0 [Applause]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou love your wife because she belongs to Christ, and you desire to be used of God as a sanctifying influence in her life.\u00a0 So that, when your marriage is done\u2014when you die\u2014you can literally offer her to your Lord, as a gift, because of your love for Him.\u00a0 \u201cIs it just completely selfless like that?\u201d\u00a0 Get to the next part of this.\u00a0 God is so gracious. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cIn the same way, husbands should love their wives as their own bodies.\u00a0 He who loves his wife loves himself; for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, because we are members of His body.\u00a0 Therefore, a man shall leave his father and mother, and hold fast to his wife; and the two shall become one flesh.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou love your wife, not only because she is a child of God and it is your desire that she be more sanctified as a result of having been married to you than she would have had she not been married to you, but you also love her because she has been gifted to you by God.\u00a0 She\u2019s not just yours; she\u2019s you!\u00a0 As you love her, you are actually fortifying the gift that God has given to you.\u00a0 \u201cGod, You\u2019ve given me this woman.\u00a0 I love her because she\u2019s Yours.\u00a0 My desire is to give her to You, as a more sanctified vessel, because of the love with which I\u2019ve loved her.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cThank you.\u00a0 Enjoy!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cYes, but see; I\u2019m giving her to You.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cYes.\u00a0 Thank you.\u00a0 Enjoy!\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tCan I just sort of pull the shade back on that, just a little bit?\u00a0 The marriage relationship is a living, breathing picture of the relationship between Jesus Christ and His bride, the church.\u00a0 As you know, the relationship between Jesus Christ and His bride, the church, has not yet been consummated.\u00a0 The church always lives in longing anticipation of the day when Christ, her bridegroom, will return at the end of the age, and the consummation of all things will occur.\u00a0 It is an ecstasy that we cannot imagine\u2014except in one moment.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cFinally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of His might.\u00a0 Put on the whole armor of God,\u201d not your own armor, \u201cthat you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.\u00a0 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against rulers, and against authorities, against cosmic power over this present darkness, against spiritual forces of evil,\u201d where?\u00a0 \u201cin the heavenly places.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhere is Christ, according to the first three chapters?\u2014in the heavenly places.\u00a0 Where have I been seated, according to the first three chapters?\u2014in the heavenly places.\u00a0 I\u2019ve been blessed with every spiritual blessing.\u00a0 Where?\u2014in the heavenly places.\u00a0 The church is designed to show off God\u2019s majesty.\u00a0 Where?\u2014in the heavenly places.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWait a minute.\u00a0 In the first three chapters, Paul tells me I\u2019m seated, in Christ, in the heavenly places, and blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places\u2014that the church is displaying God\u2019s majesty in the heavenly places\u2014and that Christ, who <em>is<\/em> <em>God<\/em>, in the flesh, the Creator of the universe, is there, ruling over the heavenly places.\u00a0 In Chapter 6, He tells me to, \u201cStand firm.\u201d\u00a0 Where?\u00a0 In the heavenly places\u2014that belong, not to my adversary, but to my advocate.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat\u2019s wrong with your marriage is that there\u2019s assault from heavenly places, and then you go try to fix it by using earthly techniques.\u00a0 What do you need?\u00a0 To remind yourself of the Gospel, of who you are in Christ, of where you have been seated, and what you have been given.\u00a0 What do you desperately need to be mindful of?\u2014that your marriage is a display of the beautiful picture of Christ\u2019s headship over His body, the unity in Christ\u2019s body, and the glory that the body gives to its head.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWife, I know it\u2019s hard for you to submit to your husband; and there\u2019s no technique that\u2019s going to make it un-hard for you to submit to your husband.\u00a0 But if you have been born again, you delight in Christ.\u00a0 What does He tell you?\u00a0 \u201cSubmit to your husband, as to the Lord.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cGod, this imperative is so hard!\u201d\u00a0 That is because you\u2019re not looking at the indicative.\u00a0 To whom do you belong?\u00a0 \u201cI belong to Christ.\u201d\u00a0 With what have you been blessed?\u00a0 \u201cWith everything I need.\u201d\u00a0 Where have you been blessed with it?\u201d\u2014\u201cin the heavenly places.\u201d\u00a0 Submit to that man.\u00a0 \u201cYes, but I don\u2019t know what will happen.\u201d\u00a0 Do you have to?\u00a0 As an act of worship to your Savior, and Master, and Lord, submit to your husband\u2014not because he\u2019s more valuable.\u00a0 He\u2019s not.\u00a0 It\u2019s not about value; it\u2019s about order.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHusbands, love your wives, not just because your wife is a responder.\u00a0 Is she a responder?\u00a0 Yes, she is a responder.\u00a0 Praise God for wives being responders, but that\u2019s not <em>why<\/em> you love your wife.\u00a0 You love your wife, first and foremost, because she is a child of God who has been entrusted to you so that Christ may be glorified as she is more sanctified as a result of the relationship that she has with you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBy the way, did I tell you 17 things that you have to do to disciple your wife?\u00a0 No!\u00a0 But I will tell you this:\u00a0 If you understand <em>that phrase<\/em>\u2014that God has given your wife as a gift to you, that she\u2019s a child of God, and it is God\u2019s plan, through marriage, that she be more sanctified as a result of having been married to you than she would have been had she not been married to you\u2014that <em>ought<\/em> to get you thinking about some ways that you can get her discipled.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBy the way, doesn\u2019t this change the whole recipe, too?\u00a0 \u201cWell, you know, see, here\u2019s the problem.\u00a0 My wife is further along spiritually than I am; and therefore, I cannot disciple my wife because she\u2019s further along spiritually than I am.\u00a0 So what I\u2019m going to do is nothing!\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 In the words of that Texas theologian, Dr. Phil, \u201cHow\u2019s that working for you?\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLet\u2019s see if we can put that in a different scenario.\u00a0 \u201cJim, how are you doing?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cI\u2019m doing great, boss.\u00a0 You wanted to see me?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cYes, Jim.\u00a0 I\u2019m going to promote you.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cYou\u2019re going to promote me?!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cYes, Jim.\u00a0 You\u2019re going to be over this entire division.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cWow!\u00a0 That\u2019s awesome.\u00a0 I will do my best.\u00a0 But, oh, you know what?\u00a0 Wait a minute.\u00a0 There are people in this division who have been in the company longer than I\u2019ve been in the company.\u00a0 There are actually people in this division who know their particular job better than I know their job.\u00a0 I think, boss, that what you need to do is maybe give this job to somebody else because I can\u2019t lead people who know more about stuff than I do.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat do you say?\u00a0 You wouldn\u2019t do that at work because you\u2019ve got a worship problem.\u00a0 If you wouldn\u2019t do it at work, how dare you do it at home?\u00a0 Here\u2019s the irony:\u00a0 Not only do you take that job, but you tell your wife that she has to sacrifice time with you for a while so that you can burn the midnight oil and get up to date on your new responsibilities, so that when you get to work, you can be on the ball and lead even those people who have been there longer than you have because <em>you will not fail<\/em>!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhy do we do that?\u2014because we see ourselves seated in earthly places, for earthly purposes.\u00a0 We live like that\u2019s who we really are; but if you see yourself as seated in heavenly places, and equipped for the heavenly duties and responsibilities, and God gives you a wife who loves Him, and pursues Him, and is even farther along than you are, then you say, \u201cThank you, Sir.\u00a0 I won\u2019t let you down because, not only do I love her, but I love You even more than I love her.\u00a0 If You\u2019ve given me this assignment, my goal is that she become more of what You\u2019ve called her to be, as a result of this assignment that You\u2019ve given me.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know what it is that I can add to her, but I guarantee You that I\u2019m going to add something.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou see the difference in that is\u2014not five or six tools\u2014but one change of perspective.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know what your particular issues are.\u00a0 The beautiful thing is I don\u2019t have to because, whatever your particular issues are, I know what your answer is.\u00a0 The answer is, \u201cYou submit to your husband, for the love of Christ.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cYou love your wife, for the love of Christ.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cYou live your life, for the love of Christ.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWould you bow with me?\u00a0 As we bow before the Lord, would you just consider a couple of things because there are some of you who actually came to this week, desiring to have a better marriage and hoping that you would hear some tips for a better marriage.\u00a0 But the fact of the matter is, you are <em>not <\/em>seated with Him in heavenly places.\u00a0 You have <em>not<\/em> been blessed with every spiritual blessing in heavenly places.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou are absolutely unconverted.\u00a0 You do not belong to God, and what you hear tonight is that these imperatives are absolutely dependent upon indicatives that are not true of you.\u00a0 You have not come to God through repentance and faith.\u00a0 You are not a Christian.\u00a0 You\u2019re not saved.\u00a0 You\u2019re not His; and I say to you tonight, \u201cRepent!\u00a0 Turn from your sin; turn to Christ!\u201d\u00a0 Before you can turn to your spouse, you must turn to Christ.\u00a0 Cry out to Him.\u00a0 Plead with Him, that He might save you.\u00a0 Trust Him and trust Him alone.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThere are others of you, here tonight\u2014you are born again.\u00a0 You do belong to Christ, but you have been trying so hard to find the right trick and the right principle that you\u2019ve forgotten that you\u2019re to do this for the love of Christ.\u00a0 Don\u2019t wait for your husband to be worthy of your submission.\u00a0 He never will be, but Christ is. Don\u2019t wait to feel like loving your wife.\u00a0 Love her as a child of the King, whom you desire to see more sanctified as a result of having been married to you than she would have had she not.\u00a0 Receive, gratefully, the gift that she is from the very Lord to whom you intend to give her.\u00a0 Embrace the reality of this truth\u2014celebrate the ecstasy of the coming of your King in consummation of all things at the end of the age.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tRemember, in your darkest and most difficult days, ultimately, this is not about you.\u00a0 You do this for no other reason than for the love of Christ.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Studio]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, again, we\u2019ve been listening today to Part Two of a message from Voddie Baucham\u2014a message presented on the 2012 <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em> marriage cruise.\u00a0 You know, Dennis, I had a couple come up to me on the cruise.\u00a0 It was actually the wife who came up and tapped me on the shoulder first.\u00a0 I turned around and she said, \u201cDo you remember me?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt took a sec; and then I thought, \u201cI do remember you.\u201d\u00a0 In fact, she and her husband had been on the <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em> cruise\u2014the first one that we did in 2011.\u00a0 Mary Ann and I had spent about 45 minutes with this couple because their marriage was in distress.\u00a0 I remember\u2014after talking with them and challenging them, and praying with them\u2014we walked away thinking, \u201cBoy, I wonder what\u2019s going to happen with this marriage.\u201d\u00a0 To see them on the 2012 <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em> cruise\u2014I said, \u201cTell me what\u2019s happened.\u201d\u00a0 She said, \u201cWhat you shared last year, and the whole experience of the cruise\u2014God used it.\u00a0 Our marriage has been different this year, as a result of it.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tFor me, that\u2019s why you go on a cruise like this.\u00a0 I mean, sure it\u2019s fun, and there are great places to go; but ultimately, it\u2019s about God being at work in your life.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 It\u2019s a vacation with a purpose.\u00a0 You\u2019re not just going to go have fun\u2014your soul is going to be spiritually nourished, you\u2019re going to be challenged, you\u2019re going to be equipped.\u00a0 I think your relationships are going to be better.\u00a0 There are a lot of folks who are listening, right now, whose marriages are good, who don\u2019t need their marriage brought back from the brink; but it never hurts to have a little spiritual tune-up\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014some preventive maintenance.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 No doubt about it.\u00a0 Hearing a message like Voddie\u2019s\u2014and, again, he\u2019s going to be speaking at next year\u2019s <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em> cruise.\u00a0 This kind of teaching is going to be a part of what we\u2019re doing next year.\u00a0 You\u2019re going to be speaking; I\u2019ll be speaking.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 We\u2019ve got Dr. Eric Mason joining You know, if you spend time in Ephesians, Chapter 5, and you read the part on marriage, where he talks to husbands and to wives\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Your toes are going to get stepped on, whether you\u2019re a male or a female.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s the truth, and what we often have a tendency to do is\u2014Men read the part that\u2019s to the women, and say, \u201cYeah! and you have to get in touch with us before Monday, June 25<sup>th<\/sup>.\u00a0 So call us at 1-800-FL-TODAY; or go online at FamilyLifeToday.com.\u00a0 Plan to be with us for the <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em> marriage cruise.\u00a0 Again, the website: FamilyLifeToday.com, or call 1-800-\u201cF\u201d as in family, \u201cL\u201d as in life, and then the word, \u201cTODAY\u201d. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAs you mentioned, Dennis, Voddie Baucham, on this year\u2019s cruise, spoke from Ephesians, Chapter 5.\u00a0 We\u2019ve already heard Part One of the message, where he talked to wives about respecting and submitting.\u00a0 Yes, he used the \u201csubmission\u201d word.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 He did, and I can imagine there were a few wives from that broadcast who called their husbands and said, \u201cYou make sure you listen to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014to Part Two.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Exactly!\u00a0 \u201cIf it\u2019s as strong as that was to me, I want <em>you<\/em> to hear that.\u201d\u00a0 And it was equally strong.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Here is Voddie Baucham, taking us to Ephesians, Chapter 5, and God\u2019s design for husbands.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Recorded Message]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Voddie:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u201cHusbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her;\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 \u201cthat He might sanctify her,\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 That means to set her apart for Himself.\u00a0 That would be a picture of Christ\u2019s headship over His body.\u00a0 \u201chaving cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that He might present the church to Himself,\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, not only has He set her apart, but He is now bringing her to Himself\u2014unity in Christ\u2019s body, \u201cin splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish,\u201d\u2014which would bring glory to the head.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cHusbands, love your wives because, if you love your wife, then she\u2019ll respond to you appropriately.\u201d\u00a0 No!\u00a0 \u201cLove your wife for the love of Christ.\u201d\u00a0 I will not tell you to love your wife so that she\u2019ll respond to you appropriately because here\u2019s what I know.\u00a0 In the real world, there will be times when you love your wife and she doesn\u2019t respond appropriately.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf you love your wife in order to get something back from her\u2014number one\u2014you have completely missed the idea of these indicatives and imperatives.\u00a0 Number two, you will stop doing what you\u2019ve been commanded to do because the throne of your life is occupied by you and your pleasure and not by Christ.\u00a0 But, if you are called to love your wife in this way, because of Christ\u2019s headship over His body and the unity in His body, and the glory that the body gives to its head, then I can say to you in no uncertain terms, you love your wife because she belongs to Christ.\u00a0 It is your desire for this daughter of God to be more sanctified and more like Jesus as a result of having been married to you than she would have, had she not.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf she never reciprocates, you continue to give that to her nonetheless because you do it for the love of Christ, not for what you get out of it.\u00a0 By the way, that may not sound pleasant to you; but can I ask you something?\u00a0 When am I more like Jesus?\u2014when I am loving my wife and getting everything in return that I want, or when I am dying for a bride who doesn\u2019t even have sense enough to know that that\u2019s why I am laying down my life?\u00a0 [Applause]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou love your wife because she belongs to Christ, and you desire to be used of God as a sanctifying influence in her life.\u00a0 So that, when your marriage is done\u2014when you die\u2014you can literally offer her to your Lord, as a gift, because of your love for Him.\u00a0 \u201cIs it just completely selfless like that?\u201d\u00a0 Get to the next part of this.\u00a0 God is so gracious. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cIn the same way, husbands should love their wives as their own bodies.\u00a0 He who loves his wife loves himself; for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, because we are members of His body.\u00a0 Therefore, a man shall leave his father and mother, and hold fast to his wife; and the two shall become one flesh.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou love your wife, not only because she is a child of God and it is your desire that she be more sanctified as a result of having been married to you than she would have had she not been married to you, but you also love her because she has been gifted to you by God.\u00a0 She\u2019s not just yours; she\u2019s you!\u00a0 As you love her, you are actually fortifying the gift that God has given to you.\u00a0 \u201cGod, You\u2019ve given me this woman.\u00a0 I love her because she\u2019s Yours.\u00a0 My desire is to give her to You, as a more sanctified vessel, because of the love with which I\u2019ve loved her.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cThank you.\u00a0 Enjoy!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cYes, but see; I\u2019m giving her to You.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cYes.\u00a0 Thank you.\u00a0 Enjoy!\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tCan I just sort of pull the shade back on that, just a little bit?\u00a0 The marriage relationship is a living, breathing picture of the relationship between Jesus Christ and His bride, the church.\u00a0 As you know, the relationship between Jesus Christ and His bride, the church, has not yet been consummated.\u00a0 The church always lives in longing anticipation of the day when Christ, her bridegroom, will return at the end of the age, and the consummation of all things will occur.\u00a0 It is an ecstasy that we cannot imagine\u2014except in one moment.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cFinally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of His might.\u00a0 Put on the whole armor of God,\u201d not your own armor, \u201cthat you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.\u00a0 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against rulers, and against authorities, against cosmic power over this present darkness, against spiritual forces of evil,\u201d where?\u00a0 \u201cin the heavenly places.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhere is Christ, according to the first three chapters?\u2014in the heavenly places.\u00a0 Where have I been seated, according to the first three chapters?\u2014in the heavenly places.\u00a0 I\u2019ve been blessed with every spiritual blessing.\u00a0 Where?\u2014in the heavenly places.\u00a0 The church is designed to show off God\u2019s majesty.\u00a0 Where?\u2014in the heavenly places.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWait a minute.\u00a0 In the first three chapters, Paul tells me I\u2019m seated, in Christ, in the heavenly places, and blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places\u2014that the church is displaying God\u2019s majesty in the heavenly places\u2014and that Christ, who <em>is<\/em> <em>God<\/em>, in the flesh, the Creator of the universe, is there, ruling over the heavenly places.\u00a0 In Chapter 6, He tells me to, \u201cStand firm.\u201d\u00a0 Where?\u00a0 In the heavenly places\u2014that belong, not to my adversary, but to my advocate.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat\u2019s wrong with your marriage is that there\u2019s assault from heavenly places, and then you go try to fix it by using earthly techniques.\u00a0 What do you need?\u00a0 To remind yourself of the Gospel, of who you are in Christ, of where you have been seated, and what you have been given.\u00a0 What do you desperately need to be mindful of?\u2014that your marriage is a display of the beautiful picture of Christ\u2019s headship over His body, the unity in Christ\u2019s body, and the glory that the body gives to its head.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWife, I know it\u2019s hard for you to submit to your husband; and there\u2019s no technique that\u2019s going to make it un-hard for you to submit to your husband.\u00a0 But if you have been born again, you delight in Christ.\u00a0 What does He tell you?\u00a0 \u201cSubmit to your husband, as to the Lord.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cGod, this imperative is so hard!\u201d\u00a0 That is because you\u2019re not looking at the indicative.\u00a0 To whom do you belong?\u00a0 \u201cI belong to Christ.\u201d\u00a0 With what have you been blessed?\u00a0 \u201cWith everything I need.\u201d\u00a0 Where have you been blessed with it?\u201d\u2014\u201cin the heavenly places.\u201d\u00a0 Submit to that man.\u00a0 \u201cYes, but I don\u2019t know what will happen.\u201d\u00a0 Do you have to?\u00a0 As an act of worship to your Savior, and Master, and Lord, submit to your husband\u2014not because he\u2019s more valuable.\u00a0 He\u2019s not.\u00a0 It\u2019s not about value; it\u2019s about order.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHusbands, love your wives, not just because your wife is a responder.\u00a0 Is she a responder?\u00a0 Yes, she is a responder.\u00a0 Praise God for wives being responders, but that\u2019s not <em>why<\/em> you love your wife.\u00a0 You love your wife, first and foremost, because she is a child of God who has been entrusted to you so that Christ may be glorified as she is more sanctified as a result of the relationship that she has with you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBy the way, did I tell you 17 things that you have to do to disciple your wife?\u00a0 No!\u00a0 But I will tell you this:\u00a0 If you understand <em>that phrase<\/em>\u2014that God has given your wife as a gift to you, that she\u2019s a child of God, and it is God\u2019s plan, through marriage, that she be more sanctified as a result of having been married to you than she would have been had she not been married to you\u2014that <em>ought<\/em> to get you thinking about some ways that you can get her discipled.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBy the way, doesn\u2019t this change the whole recipe, too?\u00a0 \u201cWell, you know, see, here\u2019s the problem.\u00a0 My wife is further along spiritually than I am; and therefore, I cannot disciple my wife because she\u2019s further along spiritually than I am.\u00a0 So what I\u2019m going to do is nothing!\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\u00a0 In the words of that Texas theologian, Dr. Phil, \u201cHow\u2019s that working for you?\u201d\u00a0 [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLet\u2019s see if we can put that in a different scenario.\u00a0 \u201cJim, how are you doing?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cI\u2019m doing great, boss.\u00a0 You wanted to see me?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cYes, Jim.\u00a0 I\u2019m going to promote you.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cYou\u2019re going to promote me?!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cYes, Jim.\u00a0 You\u2019re going to be over this entire division.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cWow!\u00a0 That\u2019s awesome.\u00a0 I will do my best.\u00a0 But, oh, you know what?\u00a0 Wait a minute.\u00a0 There are people in this division who have been in the company longer than I\u2019ve been in the company.\u00a0 There are actually people in this division who know their particular job better than I know their job.\u00a0 I think, boss, that what you need to do is maybe give this job to somebody else because I can\u2019t lead people who know more about stuff than I do.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat do you say?\u00a0 You wouldn\u2019t do that at work because you\u2019ve got a worship problem.\u00a0 If you wouldn\u2019t do it at work, how dare you do it at home?\u00a0 Here\u2019s the irony:\u00a0 Not only do you take that job, but you tell your wife that she has to sacrifice time with you for a while so that you can burn the midnight oil and get up to date on your new responsibilities, so that when you get to work, you can be on the ball and lead even those people who have been there longer than you have because <em>you will not fail<\/em>!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhy do we do that?\u2014because we see ourselves seated in earthly places, for earthly purposes.\u00a0 We live like that\u2019s who we really are; but if you see yourself as seated in heavenly places, and equipped for the heavenly duties and responsibilities, and God gives you a wife who loves Him, and pursues Him, and is even farther along than you are, then you say, \u201cThank you, Sir.\u00a0 I won\u2019t let you down because, not only do I love her, but I love You even more than I love her.\u00a0 If You\u2019ve given me this assignment, my goal is that she become more of what You\u2019ve called her to be, as a result of this assignment that You\u2019ve given me.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know what it is that I can add to her, but I guarantee You that I\u2019m going to add something.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou see the difference in that is\u2014not five or six tools\u2014but one change of perspective.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know what your particular issues are.\u00a0 The beautiful thing is I don\u2019t have to because, whatever your particular issues are, I know what your answer is.\u00a0 The answer is, \u201cYou submit to your husband, for the love of Christ.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cYou love your wife, for the love of Christ.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cYou live your life, for the love of Christ.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWould you bow with me?\u00a0 As we bow before the Lord, would you just consider a couple of things because there are some of you who actually came to this week, desiring to have a better marriage and hoping that you would hear some tips for a better marriage.\u00a0 But the fact of the matter is, you are <em>not <\/em>seated with Him in heavenly places.\u00a0 You have <em>not<\/em> been blessed with every spiritual blessing in heavenly places.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou are absolutely unconverted.\u00a0 You do not belong to God, and what you hear tonight is that these imperatives are absolutely dependent upon indicatives that are not true of you.\u00a0 You have not come to God through repentance and faith.\u00a0 You are not a Christian.\u00a0 You\u2019re not saved.\u00a0 You\u2019re not His; and I say to you tonight, \u201cRepent!\u00a0 Turn from your sin; turn to Christ!\u201d\u00a0 Before you can turn to your spouse, you must turn to Christ.\u00a0 Cry out to Him.\u00a0 Plead with Him, that He might save you.\u00a0 Trust Him and trust Him alone.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThere are others of you, here tonight\u2014you are born again.\u00a0 You do belong to Christ, but you have been trying so hard to find the right trick and the right principle that you\u2019ve forgotten that you\u2019re to do this for the love of Christ.\u00a0 Don\u2019t wait for your husband to be worthy of your submission.\u00a0 He never will be, but Christ is. Don\u2019t wait to feel like loving your wife.\u00a0 Love her as a child of the King, whom you desire to see more sanctified as a result of having been married to you than she would have had she not.\u00a0 Receive, gratefully, the gift that she is from the very Lord to whom you intend to give her.\u00a0 Embrace the reality of this truth\u2014celebrate the ecstasy of the coming of your King in consummation of all things at the end of the age.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tRemember, in your darkest and most difficult days, ultimately, this is not about you.\u00a0 You do this for no other reason than for the love of Christ.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Studio]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, again, we\u2019ve been listening today to Part Two of a message from Voddie Baucham\u2014a message presented on the 2012 <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em> marriage cruise.\u00a0 You know, Dennis, I had a couple come up to me on the cruise.\u00a0 It was actually the wife who came up and tapped me on the shoulder first.\u00a0 I turned around and she said, \u201cDo you remember me?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt took a sec; and then I thought, \u201cI do remember you.\u201d\u00a0 In fact, she and her husband had been on the <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em> cruise\u2014the first one that we did in 2011.\u00a0 Mary Ann and I had spent about 45 minutes with this couple because their marriage was in distress.\u00a0 I remember\u2014after talking with them and challenging them, and praying with them\u2014we walked away thinking, \u201cBoy, I wonder what\u2019s going to happen with this marriage.\u201d\u00a0 To see them on the 2012 <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em> cruise\u2014I said, \u201cTell me what\u2019s happened.\u201d\u00a0 She said, \u201cWhat you shared last year, and the whole experience of the cruise\u2014God used it.\u00a0 Our marriage has been different this year, as a result of it.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tFor me, that\u2019s why you go on a cruise like this.\u00a0 I mean, sure it\u2019s fun, and there are great places to go; but ultimately, it\u2019s about God being at work in your life.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 It\u2019s a vacation with a purpose.\u00a0 You\u2019re not just going to go have fun\u2014your soul is going to be spiritually nourished, you\u2019re going to be challenged, you\u2019re going to be equipped.\u00a0 I think your relationships are going to be better.\u00a0 There are a lot of folks who are listening, right now, whose marriages are good, who don\u2019t need their marriage brought back from the brink; but it never hurts to have a little spiritual tune-up\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014some preventive maintenance.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 No doubt about it.\u00a0 Hearing a message like Voddie\u2019s\u2014and, again, he\u2019s going to be speaking at next year\u2019s <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em> cruise.\u00a0 This kind of teaching is going to be a part of what we\u2019re doing next year.\u00a0 You\u2019re going to be speaking; I\u2019ll be speaking.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 We\u2019ve got Dr. Eric Mason joining
