but I say to them what Jesus says, \u201cSeek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and these other things will be added to you.\u201d\u00a0 There is a principle in Scripture\u2014when you put God first, a lot of the things that you\u2019re looking for in life follow.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 This is <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> for Friday, January 13<sup>th<\/sup>.\u00a0 Our host is the President of FamilyLife\u00ae Dennis Rainey, and I\u2019m Bob Lepine.\u00a0 Bob Shirock and Dave Wilson join us today to talk about how God is bringing hope back to the city of Detroit.\u00a0 Stay tuned.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd welcome to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>.\u00a0 Thanks for joining us.\u00a0 I remember back, well, it was late September, early October\u2014you we\u2019re really hoping for a repeat of the 1968 <em>World Series<\/em>.\u00a0 You were hoping that the Cardinals and the Tigers would be back at it in the <em>World Series;<\/em> weren\u2019t you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I thought that would be fun because haven\u2019t we generally beaten them?\u00a0 (Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s why you were hoping for that, huh?\u00a0 As it turned out, the Tigers didn\u2019t make it\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob S:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s not how I remember it in1984.\u00a0 (Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Dave Wilson and Bob Shirock join us again on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>.\u00a0 Thanks for coming back, guys.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong>\u00a0 We\u2019re glad to be here.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob S:<\/strong>\u00a0 Thank you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Even though, the Tigers didn\u2019t\u2014I\u2019m sorry about that.\u00a0 Anyway\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I am sorry.\u00a0 I really hope that they\u2019d get there and lose in seven games to the Cardinals.\u00a0 So, yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong>\u00a0 We\u2019re so good up there; we\u2019ve always got some team to look forward to.\u00a0 So, if it\u2019s not the Tigers or the Red Wings\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Or the Red Wings.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014it\u2019s the Lions.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Pretty good season for the Lions.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 No doubt about it.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong>\u00a0 There\u2019s been a lot.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Both Dave and Bob are pastors.\u00a0 Dave is a pastor at Kensington Church; Bob Shirock at Oak Pointe Church.\u00a0 You guys have been a part of something that, I think, is going to spread across the country.\u00a0 I think what has occurred and is occurring in Detroit spiritually\u2014this story needs to be told.\u00a0 That\u2019s why I really wanted to share this story with our listeners.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tExplain, Bob, again just exactly what occurred in your heart and mind; and then, what it blew up to become because it\u2019s a movement that\u2019s taking place in Detroit.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob S:<\/strong>\u00a0 It was a simple vision to give everyone a chance to hear and to give everyone in a small region, at first, a chance to hear; then, it blew up when other church leaders got involved.\u00a0 Then, it ended up being a coalition of over 540 churches and organizations.\u00a0 The same 40 days Jesus walked the earth in His resurrection body\u2014we wanted the body of Christ to rise up and walk our region with the same message that, \u201cJesus is the hope of the world.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat was it, quite simply\u2014it was fantastic.\u00a0 We had probably a couple hundred thousand believers involved, wearing their \u201c2 Word Story\u201d shirts, by which they told their own testimony\u2014massive amounts of good works going on, all over the region.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Back last fall, when the Detroit Lions were on a roll, undefeated early in the season, really having a great year\u2014there was talk of something similar to what took place in New Orleans happening in Detroit.\u00a0 You kind of turned it a different direction, though.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob S:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, a little bit, because, you know, <em>TIME Magazine<\/em> said, \u201cThe world is watching Detroit to see if it can find a way to rise from the ashes.\u201d\u00a0 We didn\u2019t want our resurrection from the dead to be built just on Super Bowl, electric cars, and green spaces.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThere\u2019s a statue down at City Hall, <em>Spirit of Detroit<\/em>, and engraved on the walls of our city\u2014believe it or not\u2014engraved on the walls of the city offices is the Bible verse that says, \u201cNow, where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.\u201d\u00a0 We adopted that, really, as our hope that the Spirit of the Lord would be brought back to the heart of the city and that our resurrection would have\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOf course, we want the Lions to win, and we want green cars.\u00a0 We want to move the world again.\u00a0 Detroit once moved the world, but we want to move the world again with the message that Jesus Christ is what brings new life and resurrection.\u00a0 So, that\u2019s\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 As you proclaim that message, as a group of churches\u2014more than 500 churches involved\u2014hundreds of thousands of believers wearing t-shirts and buttons that shared their \u201c2 Word Story\u201d, what happened, Dave?\u00a0 I mean, is Kensington a different church at the end of those 40 days than it was at the beginning?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, I definitely think so.\u00a0 We became one church\u2014540 churches all around Detroit, which\u2014we hardly knew each other; we knew about each other; but I really feel like <em>one big church<\/em>\u2014which is God\u2019s dream anyway\u2014wrapped their arms\u2014really, probably more literally, the arms of Jesus\u2014around the city of Detroit in words and deeds\u2014communicating the message of the Gospel\u2014but living it out, impacting people\u2019s lives to point people to the Kingdom of God.\u00a0 It was one church\u2014not 500\u2014one big church.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Were you hearing stories of people coming to faith\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong>\u00a0 All the time.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014throughout that time.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong>\u00a0 We did at the end of the series, for us at Kensington\u2014I don\u2019t know what Oak Pointe\u2014we did baptisms.\u00a0 We baptized 600 people, and many of them had come to faith somewhere in that 40-day deal.\u00a0 We don\u2019t know exactly how all those stories transpired, but so many of them had something to do\u2014as crazy as it sounds, a guy walking up to a guy and saying, \u201cWhat do those two words on your shirt mean?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cEmpty?\u00a0 Empty!\u201d\u00a0 The guy was able to say, very simply, \u201cI was empty my whole life, trying to find meaning in all kinds of different ways.\u00a0 I found life and fullness in Jesus Christ.\u00a0 Can I tell you about it?\u201d\u00a0 People came to Christ through that \u201c2 Word Story\u201d that was birthed out of EACH.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob S:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think one of the big impacts was on the church itself because it got churches together.\u00a0 It got Christians in the game for the first time.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s really hard to get Christians sharing their faith.\u00a0 It\u2019s intimidating for\u2014especially men\u2014I find men at the office.\u00a0 It\u2019s real hard for them to break across that line into spiritual discussions, but this gave them a way to do that by means of just telling their own story relationally.\u00a0 So, it got Christians in the game; and it got churches together.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe hardest people to get together were the pastors because they have their turf; but you know what?\u00a0 The church people\u2014when they got together for prayer rallies, we had 28,000 people show up in downtown Detroit for a prayer walk on a rainy Saturday morning.\u00a0 The people loved being together.\u00a0 They just don\u2019t have all those lines and barriers.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe\u2019re not going back; we\u2019re moving forward with a permanent EACH coalition\u2014same idea, every year.\u00a0 Real simple, it\u2019s going to be the Detroit tradition.\u00a0 We own it\u2014the 40 days after Easter\u2014the body of Christ loves its region.\u00a0 I think churches are excited to go forward.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Where did 28,000 people walk downtown?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong>\u00a0 It was very cool.\u00a0 We met right outside Tiger Stadium in a parking lot.\u00a0 We set up a big stage.\u00a0 About 9:00 in the morning, we started the rally with worship, praise, and public prayers.\u00a0 It was raining, but the sun came out.\u00a0 The sky parted ten minutes before the service began, which was a God-thing because we couldn\u2019t have even turned on the sound equipment.\u00a0 We wouldn\u2019t have even been able to play music.\u00a0 Then, we worshiped.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, we lined up on Woodward Avenue, which the city closed for us, and we walked about half a mile down to the <em>Spirit of Detroit<\/em> and half a mile back.\u00a0 The most moving part\u2014I was at the front of the line\u2014it was four-lanes wide, going down and back; but the most moving part was\u2014when I got back, people were still just leaving the parking lot to walk down.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt was bigger than the Thanksgiving Day Parade, which Detroit\u2019s famous for.\u00a0 It was packed with people\u2014men, women, children, black, white\u2014praying for their city.\u00a0 It was incredibly moving.\u00a0 You could see that the body of Christ does care.\u00a0 We did it last year on the Palm Sunday weekend, kind of like the Triumphal Entry sort of imagery.\u00a0 This year, we\u2019re going to do it right in the middle of the 40 days, to kind of build momentum and excitement.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong>\u00a0 For me, as well, first time I sensed how big this had become\u2014it is like, \u201cOh, my gosh!\u00a0 God is really doing something.\u201d\u00a0 You heard stories, but to stand there with those people\u2014and like Bob said, when you\u2019re completing your walk and seeing people just starting the walk\u2014it was like a 15-, 20-minute walk.\u00a0 It was like, \u201cWow!\u00a0 God is doing something and it is probably only the <em>beginning <\/em>of what He wants to accomplish in and through us.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob S:<\/strong>\u00a0 What is very cool is\u2014the mayor has called for a meeting of Christian leaders.\u00a0 He is asking for our help going forward in solving the problems of the city.\u00a0 They\u2019re reaching out saying, \u201cCan the church help us?\u201d\u00a0 The problems are still there, and they\u2019re big.\u00a0 They can\u2019t solve them without the help of the church.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Think about 28,000 people, praying for their community.\u00a0 Detroit, as you\u2019ve mentioned, in the recession, was in the midst of the ashes.\u00a0 What percent of folks had moved out of the region?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong>\u00a0 I don\u2019t know what the percent was; but it was double digits, easy.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob S:<\/strong>\u00a0 We\u2019re not just talking poor people; we\u2019re talking wealthy executives losing their homes, foreclosing, walking away, with no money, from the suburbs.\u00a0 Whole subdivisions vacating two years ago; it was that bad.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You guys have also taken the concept of good deeds\u2014not just proclaiming the Gospel, that Jesus Christ died for our sins and wants to provide forgiveness, peace, and purpose\u2014but you also have penetrated every sector of your city with all kinds of good deeds.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019ve got a list here.\u00a0 You had seven major resource fairs?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob S:<\/strong>\u00a0 On Saturdays, in different locations, we called together all the resources\u2014the feeding, the mobile medical clinic, the mobile dental clinic, health scans, all kinds of stuff.\u00a0 We refurbished\u2014Handyman Ministries refurbished over 50 homes in 40 days.\u00a0 They\u2019d do a home a day\u2014then, have a block party at the end of each day.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIn partnership with Forgotten Harvest, we served hundreds of thousands of meals.\u00a0 That\u2019s ongoing throughout the year.\u00a0 The goal is to serve about three-, four million meals\u2014so, tons of just\u2014incredible amounts of good deeds unleashed.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 This sounds like it cost some money in a time when not a lot of people in Detroit had a lot of spare cash laying around.\u00a0 I mean, you\u2019re talking about\u2014I\u2019m hearing about PA systems and things being set up.\u00a0 I\u2019m hearing about mobile clinics and food.\u00a0 How did you rally the money for this?\u00a0 With all of these churches coming together, whose money was it?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob S:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, well, a lot of it came from the churches, some from foundations, some from donors that gave matching gift challenges.\u00a0 Yes, it cost some money to do it; but it is money well spent.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe\u2019re going to do something similar this year, and we think that on an annual basis we can do something <em>huge<\/em>.\u00a0 We\u2019ve talked with the Luis Palau organization.\u00a0 He is doing a lot of this all around the country, these city-wide movements.\u00a0 We\u2019ve talked to Franklin Graham\u2019s organization\u2014he has been to Detroit, now, three times to talk with us about partnering.\u00a0 To have groups like that come in and do a big invitational event is a $1.5 million price tag.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, if churches can rally and for half a million dollars saturate their region every year, it is money well-spent.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019m going to ask both of you to do something that is totally unfair.\u00a0 Do you have a favorite story from the 40 days that just embodied the love of Christ through laymen\u2014just church goers, people who are followers of Christ?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob S:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, I\u2019ve got a great story\u2014a single mom in our congregation with three boys and going to nursing school.\u00a0 She volunteered during the 40 days to serve in the medical clinic as a volunteer nurse; but not only did she serve in the medical clinic at all the resource fairs, she helped rebuild a house and learned how to use a nail gun.\u00a0 (Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tShe tells this story\u2014she is this little, petite girl\u2014this little blonde girl.\u00a0 We\u2019ve got this picture of her holding a nail gun.\u00a0 She says it was the most fun part of the whole campaign was rebuilding a house\u2014but seeing what it did to the people that she helped and the impact it had on her life and the impact it\u2019s going to have on her three boys, who watched their mom sacrificially serve during that campaign.\u00a0 It touched my heart to see people\u2014they were all in\u2014and to see that kind of stuff really delighted me.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong>\u00a0 I had a guy at Kensington.\u00a0 He\u2019s probably mid-50s.\u00a0 His name is Bill.\u00a0 He said, \u201cI\u2019m a handyman.\u00a0 I can build houses.\u00a0 I can do <em>blah, blah, blah<\/em>\u2014what should I do?\u201d\u00a0 I go, \u201cWhat do you want to do?\u201d\u00a0 He goes, \u201cI don\u2019t know.\u00a0 I have a heart for widows.\u201d\u00a0 I go, \u201cWhy don\u2019t you go out into the lobby of the church and see if anybody would be interested in what you\u2019re doing?\u201d\u00a0 I didn\u2019t know what happened.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLater, I found out he went out in the lobby, walks up to this woman he\u2019s never seen before, and goes, \u201cHey, if you were a widow, would it help you if some guys came in and started renovating your house\u2014you know, things like that?\u201d\u00a0 She starts crying.\u00a0 Her name is Karen.\u00a0 Steve, her husband, and I coached my son\u2019s basketball; and he died of a massive heart attack seven years ago.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBill walked up to Karen, just a woman in the lobby, to say, \u201cHey.\u201d\u00a0 She is standing there by herself, and she starts crying, saying, \u201cI am a widow.\u00a0 I would<em> love<\/em> for somebody to come to help.\u201d\u00a0 So, he goes over with four or five guys.\u00a0 He started a ministry now called Faith Works.\u00a0 That\u2019s all they do.\u00a0 There are about 30 guys and women who just go and help widows\u2014that\u2019s their primary focus out of EACH.\u00a0 They, obviously, did a lot of things with the EACH campaign.\u00a0 They just\u2014every week.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI mean, I talked to him two days ago.\u00a0 He said, \u201cWe just did another house.\u201d\u00a0 I don\u2019t even know what he\u2019s doing.\u00a0 It just goes, and goes, and goes.\u00a0 It\u2019s all in the love of Christ.\u00a0 So, it\u2019s a pretty cool story.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob S:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019ve got to tell you one more\u2014quick one.\u00a0 This guy comes to my church on Saturday night just to tell me the stories of him being able to share his faith.\u00a0 He stopped me after the service.\u00a0 He says, \u201cI was raised in a pastor\u2019s family.\u00a0 I\u2019ve been a Christian for 30-, 40 years.\u201d\u00a0 He says, \u201cI have never been able to share my faith.\u00a0 In the past two weeks, I\u2019ve had four people come up to me and ask me about my shirt.\u00a0 I\u2019ve had four opportunities to tell my story.\u201d\u00a0 I thought, \u201cWell, that\u2019s really cool.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAbout two hours later, my cell phone rings; and it\u2019s him again.\u00a0 He said, \u201cJust wanted to let you know.\u00a0 We are at a restaurant, and opportunity number five just happened with the waitress.\u201d\u00a0 So, here\u2019s a guy who\u2019s never been able to share his faith\u2014a pastor\u2019s kid, five opportunities in three weeks.\u00a0 That changed his life.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I really love to hear these stories because the ministry is not for us around this table.\u00a0 It\u2019s not for the guys who are paid to be good\u2014pastors, radio hosts, co-hosts.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tEphesians, Chapter 4, talks about how God gave apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, teachers\u2014this is the phrase, though, \u201c...to equip the saints for the work of ministry.\u201d\u00a0 The church gathered, and the church scattered.\u00a0 We were never intended to be in a holy huddle,\u00a0 kind of cloistered together; but we were commissioned to go.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat you guys are modeling, what your churches are modeling, what Detroit\u2019s modeling for the nation, is, \u201cHey, there are a bunch of laymen in churches who want to get in the game.\u00a0 They want to be \u2018all in\u2019.\u00a0 We just need to lay a good vision in front of them and give them a challenge to go.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOkay, here is your assignment.\u00a0 Both you guys get a shot at this.\u00a0 You are speaking to a single mom\u2014maybe raising three like you are talking about\u2014you\u2019re talking to maybe a widow, maybe a dad who is already busy, maybe a mom, a single person\u2014what is your challenge to them for their community?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob S:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, I say to them what Jesus says, \u201cSeek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and these other things will be added to you.\u201d\u00a0 There is a principle in Scripture\u2014when you put God first, a lot of the things that you are looking for in life follow.\u00a0 What people are doing is\u2014they are putting God second and pursuing first all the things they want in life\u2014happiness, wealth, purpose, meaning, all of that.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI gave to each of my kids three words as they went off out into life.\u00a0 To my first born, I gave the three words, \u201cLove God more.\u201d\u00a0 I just said to Chuck, \u201cIf you go out into life and you love God more than anything else, the things that you need and want in life will follow you; but put God first and love God more.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat\u2019s what I say to busy people, \u201cAre you loving God more than anything else?\u00a0 Are you putting Him first in tangible ways with your time, talent, and treasure?\u00a0 If you do that, it might cause you to sacrifice some other things; but ultimately, the things you want most in life that make you happy\u2014they will follow you.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong>\u00a0 And how do I top that, Dennis? I mean\u2014(Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob S:<\/strong>\u00a0 Come on, Dave, you can do it!\u00a0 Bring it on, Kensington.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong>\u00a0 Let\u2019s go win the Super Bowl!\u00a0 How\u2019s that?\u00a0 (Laughter)\u00a0 I mean, Dennis, when you asked that question\u2014the core of my purpose in my life\u2014I adopted this in college when I became a follower of Christ through the ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ.\u00a0 Their motto on our campus was \u201cKnow Christ and Make Him Known.\u201d\u00a0 Every one of us heard that phrase.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong>\u00a0 I would say that to any follower of Christ, \u201cKnow Christ intimately, seek Him, pursue Him; but make Him known.\u201d\u00a0 \u201c2 Word Story\u201d is just a tool to be able to do that.\u00a0 If that single mom or that successful business man, or that college kid, whatever, is thinking, \u201cMy goal in life\u2014I want to know Christ; but out of that relationship, I want to make Him known to my neighbor, my teammate, and my classmate.\u201d\u00a0 That is going to be God\u2019s purpose for your life.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s that simple.\u00a0 I mean, it\u2019s profound; and we lose sight of it.\u00a0 We get distracted; but it comes down to, \u201cDo I know Jesus?\u00a0 Do I love God, and I love others?\u201d\u00a0 Love God.\u00a0 Love others\u2014Love God; love others\u2014greatest commandment.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat\u2019s what I would say.\u00a0 God wants to use you, single mom.\u00a0 God wants to use you, divorced family.\u00a0 He wants to use <em>anyone<\/em> who is submitted to Christ to <em>impact<\/em> and be the light on\u2014city on a hill, light on a hill.\u00a0 He will.\u00a0 He did not bless you, for you.\u00a0 He blessed you, to bless through you, to be a blessing to others.\u00a0 Share your story, and you will expand the Kingdom of God.\u00a0 God will use <em>you<\/em> just like He\u2019s used us.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 He uses broken people.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong>\u00a0 Sure does.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I mean, it\u2019s not a matter of being perfect enough.\u00a0 There was only One who was that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 It\u2019s people just being available and saying, \u201cOkay, God, here I am.\u00a0 Use me.\u00a0 Plug me in.\u201d\u00a0 Dave, would you pray?\u00a0 Would you pray for folks\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong>\u00a0 Sure will.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014that they\u2019d get more than just their ears tickled here today, but that their heart would be pierced by what\u2019s going on in Detroit;
