but what I have heard more than anything else is, \u201cI have seen myself in the mirror, and I have seen where I need to step up.\u00a0 The Holy Spirit is all over me; and I want to run home, I want to embrace my kids and I want to start being the spiritual leader God has called me to be.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2014that is what we want, and I think that\u2019s what God wants!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 This is <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> for Friday, September 30<sup>th<\/sup>.\u00a0 Our host is the President of FamilyLife\u00ae, Dennis Rainey, and I'm Bob Lepine.\u00a0 We may get a chance to see this weekend a little of what the God wants to do as men and women all across the country head out to theatres to see the brand-new movie, <em>Courageous<\/em>.\u00a0 Stay tuned.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd welcome to <em>FamilyLife Today.<\/em><em>\u00a0 <\/em>Thanks for joining us on the Friday edition.\u00a0 We really cannot call this \u201cthe premiere.\u201d\u00a0 Today, I mean today, is the day for the grand opening of the movie, <em>Courageous<\/em>, in theatres all across the country in about a thousand screens; but actually the premiere of the film happened about a month ago in Atlanta.\u00a0 You and I didn\u2019t get to go, our schedule didn\u2019t allow it, but there were a whole bunch of folks at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta for the big red carpet premiere of <em>Courageous.<\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis<\/strong>:\u00a0 And the co-writers and producers of Courageous join us again on <em>FamilyLife Today\u2014<\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob<\/strong>:\u00a0 Along with the leading man; I mean, we got to throw that in too.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis<\/strong>:\u00a0 We do.\u00a0 Alex Kendrick is the leading man.\u00a0 His brother, Stephen, joined him in writing and producing the movie.\u00a0 Welcome back, guys.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephen and Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Thank you.\u00a0 Glad to be here.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I wanted to ask you this question because you have now produced four films.\u00a0 They have done remarkably well.\u00a0 I believe this one is going to do even better.\u00a0 In fact, Rick Warren says, \u201cThis is the best film of the year.\u201d\u00a0 I agree, and I agree on a lot of fronts.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Thank you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Message, mission, impact\u2014it's all there.\u00a0 But here is the question I have for you because you are invading enemy territory\u2014and I am not talking about homes and lives of people\u2014I am talking about Hollywood.\u00a0 Hollywood is not known to be friendly for films with a message and a mission around the Gospel of Jesus Christ.\u00a0 What\u2019s been the biggest surprise you guys have had?\u00a0 I would like both of you to answer to it.\u00a0 What\u2019s the biggest surprise about Hollywood?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephen:<\/strong>\u00a0 I have been surprised that there are actually some godly believers in Hollywood who have been praying for something like this to happen.\u00a0 We have been hearing about small groups of people who have been praying at Sony and other organizations saying, \u201cLord, would You somehow advance the kingdom through movies.\u201d\u00a0 Some of the movies we have been working on\u2014they are seeing as an answer to prayer.\u00a0 So I am very grateful for that.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAt the same time, so many of the people in Hollywood\u2014they don\u2019t know the Lord and so they are spiritually blind, and spiritually dead, and a slave to sin just like we are, apart from Christ.\u00a0 They need the Lord.\u00a0 We have been grateful, though, at the responses that some of them have had.\u00a0 Alex has got a great story about the response to <em>Fireproof.<\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex<\/strong>:\u00a0 Yes, the weekend after <em>Fireproof\u2014w<\/em>hich surprised all of us\u2014it came out as the fourth top-grossing movie in the nation, the opening weekend.\u00a0 It wasn\u2019t even on their radar.\u00a0 So the entertainment publications began contacting us.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne guy said, \u201cWho in the world are you guys?\u201d\u00a0 We said, \u201cWe are a church in South Georgia.\u201d\u00a0 He said, \u201cA church!\u00a0 A church?\u201d\u00a0 He said, \u201cChurches don\u2019t make movies!\u201d\u00a0 We said, \u201cWell, right.\u00a0 This one does.\u201d\u00a0 He said, \u201cWe know everything that\u2019s coming, and we have a formula for how well it's going to do based on current marketing promotion.\u00a0 You guys were so under the radar\u2014all of a sudden you just appear as number four in the nation, and we are blind-sighted by this.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo we are thrilled when God shows off.\u00a0 We do not take credit for how well the things do.\u00a0 We obey the Lord.\u00a0 We try to do the best we can; but, ultimately, God is the one that turns the heart and changes lives.\u00a0 We don\u2019t do that.\u00a0 So we are grateful when God does something that we can\u2019t explain.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u00a0 And so Alex, what would you say is the biggest surprise in terms of Hollywood; and what you have learned since you started producing these movies with Sherwood Pictures?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex<\/strong>:\u00a0 For me, I would say the biggest surprise is their fascination with why it's working.\u00a0 One of the executives in Hollywood that we spoke with\u2014I am not going to tell you the name of the company\u2014but he came to us and he said, \u201cWe don\u2019t know how to figure you guys out.\u00a0 We don\u2019t know why people go see your movies.\u00a0 You don\u2019t have any A-list actors, you don\u2019t have any huge eye candy in these films, the budgets aren\u2019t gargantuan.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Are you saying you are not eye candy?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex<\/strong>:\u00a0 I am not, certainly not eye candy!\u00a0 (Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis<\/strong>:\u00a0 I am looking over your shoulder at your wife.\u00a0 Yes, she is finally nodding.\u00a0 That\u2019s good.\u00a0 That\u2019s good!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, she is being gracious to me.\u00a0 I think they are fascinated with, \u201cWhy do your movies work?\u201d\u00a0 I am not saying this to brag\u2014except on the Lord because he is the only One that makes them work\u2014but I love the fact that something is going on that\u2019s making them look over their shoulder and say, \u201cWhat\u2019s going over there in this small town in South Georgia?\u201d and, \u201cWhy are they making movies that people want to go see?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis<\/strong>:\u00a0 The favor of a Lord is of ultimate importance to you.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex and Stephen:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>That\u2019s right.\u00a0 That\u2019s exactly right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Explain how that works its way out in making a movie.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephen<\/strong>:\u00a0 Well, we talk about, \u201cKeeping God happy is our highest priority.\u201d\u00a0 So when it comes to writing, we lay it before the Lord.\u00a0 We say, \u201cGod, everybody has got a good movie idea,\u201d\u2014we found out because they keep sending them to us\u2014\u201cbut Lord, what\u2019s your idea?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen as we are casting, we are saying, \u201cLord who do You want to cast in each role?\u201d\u00a0 And even as we are on the set, we are saying, \u201cLord every day we are dedicating to You.\u00a0 We are dedicating what happens this day to You.\u00a0 We are seeking You for our provision and our protection.\u00a0 Enable these amateurs to act beyond their own ability.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tEven in the editing of the movie, we are saying, \u201cGod, is there anything in this movie that displeases You, that would be a stumbling block to children?\u201d\u00a0 Jesus said, \u201cDon\u2019t do it.\u201d\u00a0 So we try to honor the Lord.\u00a0 When you honor God, He promises He will bless you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis<\/strong>:\u00a0 What a novel thought for a movie!\u00a0 The ultimate objective is, \u201cWhat pleases You, God?\u201d\u00a0 How many times do you think that\u2019s occurred in the last 25 years?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex<\/strong>:\u00a0 Not often, and God is very interested in telling us what pleases Him.\u00a0 So when we seek Him, He opens doors, no one else could open and He shuts doors we should not walk through.\u00a0 God\u2019s favor is unlike anything else.\u00a0 When things happen that are unexplainable, that you have prayed for\u2014when your needs are met in unbelievable ways\u2014God is showing up and showing off.\u00a0 That\u2019s what He loves to do.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis<\/strong>:\u00a0 I am not going to get into what happened here at Family Life just in the last 30 days, but we have gone ahead and that occurred here on multiple fronts.\u00a0 I am grinning because it's just like we had nothing to do with it.\u00a0 I mean, it's not about human competency, human ability\u2014maneuvering, manipulating, pulling strings, superior ingenuity\u2014it's just all about God, as you said, \u201cshowing up and showing off.\u201d\u00a0 It's just fun because, in the end, nobody gets the credit.\u00a0 No organization gets the credit. It's just a group of people going, \u201cWow! God, You are up to something!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephen:<\/strong>\u00a0 You are awesome!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis<\/strong>:\u00a0 You are really up to something.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephen<\/strong>:\u00a0 Our pastor says something\u2014he says, \u201cGuys, we are so one foolish un-prayed-over decision away from God taking His hand of blessing off of us.\u00a0 That is something you steward.\u201d\u00a0 So all of us need to remain humble, and all of us need to keep seeking Him because sometimes in Scripture God warns them that when He blesses them, they forget Him.\u00a0 We can't do that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob<\/strong>:\u00a0 I know you guys have screened this movie for folks across the country.\u00a0 Critics have had a chance to see it at this point, and you are starting to hear some feedback.\u00a0 What are the stories you have already heard from people who have seen <em>Courageous\u2014<\/em>maybe folks who were at the Fox Theatre back in August?\u00a0 What are you hearing that\u2019s encouraging you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 We have done dozens and dozens of screenings.\u00a0 What I have heard more than anything else\u2014are men walking out\u2014some of them emotionally convicted, some devastated; but what I have heard rallying our community.\u00a0 We are buying up tickets for our police officers.\u00a0 We are setting up men\u2019s groups to get ready for this,\u201d because just like with <em>Fireproof<\/em>, people walk out of the movie\u2014they are emotionally charged and they are saying, \u201cI want to go do something now.\u201d\u00a0 We want the body of Christ to be ready to embrace them and then lead them down a path towards spiritual leadership in their homes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob<\/strong>:\u00a0 If we go back and look at the movies you have made:\u00a0 <em>Flywheel<\/em> came out.\u00a0 You made it for $20,000.\u00a0 It got just a few theatres where it got to show and then a half million DVDs.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<em>Facing the Giants<\/em>\u2014I think it opened on about 400 screens.\u00a0 It made $10 million and you spent a half million to make it.\u00a0 Then <em>Fireproof <\/em>comes out.\u00a0 You spent a million to make it; $33 million domestic box office, that\u2019s before you count the DVD stuff.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf this movie does $50 million, domestic box office\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Let\u2019s try $100 million.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>$50 to $100 million.\u00a0 I can imagine somebody calling up and saying, \u201cStephen and Alex, listen, you guys have obviously proven your skill.\u00a0 I know you have been a little hamstrung with money.\u00a0 Your next movie\u2014we would like to bank-roll it.\u00a0 We would like to give you $30 million to make your next film.\u00a0 You can do the whole faith-based thing.\u00a0 That\u2019s fine because, obviously, whatever you guys want to do that\u2019s fine; but we would like to bank-roll it with a $30 million budget.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis<\/strong>:\u00a0 Bob, are you auditioning right now?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob<\/strong>:\u00a0 No, I have been asking them about what the dates for the casting call are.\u00a0 (Laughter)\u00a0 That\u2019s off the air\u2014I was going to do that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephen:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>I was about to give him an e-mail address to send that money.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob<\/strong>:\u00a0 $30 million?\u00a0 How would you respond to a call like that?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex<\/strong>:\u00a0 First of all, there can't be any strings attached that aren\u2019t godly.\u00a0 We want God\u2019s best\u2014all of His best\u2014and for there to be nothing that would hinder God saying, \u201cThis is what I want you to do.\u201d\u00a0 So if somebody were to say, \u201cI will give you the money, but you go to do it my way,\u201d the answer is, \u201cNo.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob<\/strong>:\u00a0 Or if they said, \u201cThe studio retains final rights over this, or that, or that.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex<\/strong>:\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob<\/strong>:\u00a0 You want total, complete control over your movie.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephen<\/strong>:\u00a0 As a steward because we are accountable, ultimately, to the Lord.\u00a0 We don\u2019t want to put ourselves in a situation like where Joshua makes a covenant with the Gibeonites.\u00a0 As a result, it sets him up to disobey God.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex<\/strong>:\u00a0 That\u2019s exactly right.\u00a0 So, it is not an issue of us thinking we are too big for our britches.\u00a0 It's an issue of saying, \u201cLord, if You trust us with whatever amount of money, we will do exactly what You call us to do.\u201d\u00a0 If somebody is about that, \u201cJump on the bandwagon.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephen:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>\u201cLet\u2019s talk.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>We have a number of movies we\u2019d love to do and the one that jumps in my mind is Elijah\u2014doing the biblical epic of Elijah.\u00a0 I would call it <em>The Fire of God<\/em>\u2014how Elijah stood alone\u2014because we have to learn, if we are not supported as followers of God, as followers of Jesus Christ, we have to have the courage to stand alone.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob<\/strong>:\u00a0 So you have dreamed of the special effects you could do with a few extra million dollars?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>I have seen the whole movie in my head already!\u00a0 (Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis<\/strong>:\u00a0 You know, I am looking at what you have before you; and it\u2019s a little bit, not exactly, but it\u2019s a little bit of how <em>Courageous<\/em> concludes.\u00a0 It's called <em>The Resolution<\/em>.\u00a0 I am thinking back to Bob\u2019s question.\u00a0 This would be edited out.\u00a0 I mean, this is hardcore Christianity.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You mean if a studio was in charge of this, they would go, \u201cOh, that\u2019s too religious, too preachy!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh, yes.\u00a0 If the money was tied to this, they\u2019d go, \u201cYeah, you know, this is calling men.\u00a0 This is tough stuff you are talking here.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhy don\u2019t you just read the resolution and set it up\u2014as to the kind of scene and what this looks like\u2014and what you are playing out here.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex<\/strong>:\u00a0 In the movie, <em>Courageous<\/em>, when one of the dad goes through a tragedy, he begins to look at what kind of father he had been to his children.\u00a0 He realizes that he was accepting a \u201cgood enough\u201d standard.\u00a0 It is not good enough to be a good enough father.\u00a0 God calls us to be men of courage, men of strength, men of obedience, and masculine men of faith.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo in the movie, he pours through Scripture; writes this resolution.\u00a0 This is what it says, and he commits to be this type of dad in front of his family and friends.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe says:\u00a0 \u201cI do solemnly resolve before God to take full responsibility for myself, my wife, and my children.\u00a0 I will love them, protect them, serve them, and teach them the Word of God as the spiritual leader of my home.\u00a0 I will be faithful to my wife to love and honor her and be willing to lay down my life for her as Jesus Christ did for me.\u00a0 I will bless my children and teach them to love God with all of their hearts, all of their minds and all of their strength.\u00a0 I will train them to honor authority and live responsibly.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cI will confront evil, pursue justice, and love mercy.\u00a0 I will pray for others and treat them with kindness, respect, and compassion.\u00a0 I will work diligently to provide for the needs of my family.\u00a0 I will forgive those who have wronged me and reconcile with those I have wronged.\u00a0 I will learn from my mistakes, repent of my sins, and walk with integrity as a man answerable to God.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cI will seek to honor God, be faithful to His church, obey His Word, and do His will.\u00a0 I will courageously work with the strength God provides to fulfill this resolution for the rest of my life and for His glory.\u201d\u00a0 At the bottom, it says, \u201cAs for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.\u201d\u00a0 Joshua 24:15.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob<\/strong>:\u00a0 You know, that is a powerful scene there.\u00a0 Actually, twice in the movie\u2014there is a scene where the five men who are friends come together to have a ceremony and sign these resolutions.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen there is a scene at the end where you call a church to respond and call the men in the church to respond to these resolutions.\u00a0 Do you have one of those signed in your home?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex<\/strong>:\u00a0 It\u2019s hanging on my wall right now.\u00a0 But this is the other thing\u2014our pastor has set a date and he said, \u201cWe are going to call the men of our church, and we are not going to do it quickly.\u00a0 You have to make sure that what you are doing, you are serious about it and you know what you are signing.\u201d\u00a0 He is going to call the men of our church on a certain date\u2014those who are willing to come forward and take this resolution\u2014as the men of a church to hold one other accountable.\u00a0 So our church, which has made the movie, is going to step out and do this resolution.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob<\/strong>:\u00a0 Wow!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephen<\/strong>:\u00a0 We are getting phone calls from churches of the men who have already gone to some of these pre-screenings\u2014they are going through <em>The Resolution<\/em> book, and they are doing ceremonies.\u00a0 Networks of churches are coming together to do this.\u00a0 We are very excited because it could change the world\u2014if men will step up and do it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob<\/strong>:\u00a0 But these guys better be careful and not take the Lord\u2019s name in vain\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex<\/strong>:\u00a0 That\u2019s right; you got it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob<\/strong>:\u00a0 In the signing of\u2014I mean, you can be filled with emotion and say, \u201cThat\u2019s the kind of person I want to be.\u00a0 So I will sign it.\u201d\u00a0 But there is a difference between, \u201cThis is the guy I want to be,\u201d and, \u201cThis is the guy I will be.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephen:<\/strong>\u00a0 --which is why we wrote <em>The Resolution for Men.<\/em><em>\u00a0 <\/em>The entire book was written to help men understand and live out this resolution commitment.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Not just leave the movie feeling ashamed, or convicted, or guilty; but to leave there and have some hope because I think a lot of guys really do want to step up.\u00a0 They want to do as you charge them to do at the conclusion of the movie\u2014in that congregation with that church\u2014you could feel it in your chest.\u00a0 Men are out there going, \u201cYes!\u00a0 Yes!\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf enough men step up\u2014Hollywood, the power brokers of America\u2014I am telling you, the most powerful place is not Washington DC; the most powerful place is a family under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.\u00a0 If enough of them step up to become God\u2019s men, we are going to see a spiritual awakening in our nation.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\u00a0 May it be so, Lord.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephen:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s exactly right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex<\/strong>:\u00a0 You brought up something.\u00a0 Men are going to walk out when they see the film, and they are going to have a myriad of issues.\u00a0 They are going to say, \u201cWell, I didn\u2019t have an example in my dad,\u201d or, \u201cI am struggling with my own bitterness issues, or frustration, or hurt,\u201d or whatever it is.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe took great pains to address all of those things.\u00a0 \u201cHow do I be a chain-breaker?\u201d\u00a0 So <em>The Resolution for Men<\/em> book addresses these things.\u00a0 We hope that men read that before they sign this because you can't sign this when you don\u2019t realize you are accountable for doing this before the Lord.\u00a0 If you sign this, it is not a game.\u00a0 We\u2019d rather men not sign it and walk away rather than to sign it and not keep it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And we talked earlier how your dad was a chain-breaker\u2014how there was alcoholism, just all kinds of sin that was allowed to reign in homes and families.\u00a0 He decided, \u201cAs for me and house, I am going to leave a different legacy than the one I was given.\u201d\u00a0 I asked you earlier, Stephen, to give a tribute to your dad.\u00a0 Your dad is 69 years old.\u00a0 His name is\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephen:<\/strong>\u00a0 Larry Kendrick.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I warned you, Alex.\u00a0 I wanted you to come back today; and I wanted you to conclude our broadcast by honoring a man who has, indeed, broken a chain\u2014and maybe, a part of a giant chain and a legacy nationwide because of the work he has done in three boys\u2019 lives, who have become men, who represent him today.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You go ahead and take a few minutes to collect your thoughts while I remind listeners that the movie, <em>Courageous,<\/em> is out in theaters now; and we hope that you will go see it as soon as you can.\u00a0 We think the whole family will enjoy the film.\u00a0 We think dads, in particular, are going to be powerfully impacted by Welcome back, guys.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephen and Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Thank you.\u00a0 Glad to be here.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I wanted to ask you this question because you have now produced four films.\u00a0 They have done remarkably well.\u00a0 I believe this one is going to do even better.\u00a0 In fact, Rick Warren says, \u201cThis is the best film of the year.\u201d\u00a0 I agree, and I agree on a lot of fronts.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Thank you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Message, mission, impact\u2014it's all there.\u00a0 But here is the question I have for you because you are invading enemy territory\u2014and I am not talking about homes and lives of people\u2014I am talking about Hollywood.\u00a0 Hollywood is not known to be friendly for films with a message and a mission around the Gospel of Jesus Christ.\u00a0 What\u2019s been the biggest surprise you guys have had?\u00a0 I would like both of you to answer to it.\u00a0 What\u2019s the biggest surprise about Hollywood?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephen:<\/strong>\u00a0 I have been surprised that there are actually some godly believers in Hollywood who have been praying for something like this to happen.\u00a0 We have been hearing about small groups of people who have been praying at Sony and other organizations saying, \u201cLord, would You somehow advance the kingdom through movies.\u201d\u00a0 Some of the movies we have been working on\u2014they are seeing as an answer to prayer.\u00a0 So I am very grateful for that.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAt the same time, so many of the people in Hollywood\u2014they don\u2019t know the Lord and so they are spiritually blind, and spiritually dead, and a slave to sin just like we are, apart from Christ.\u00a0 They need the Lord.\u00a0 We have been grateful, though, at the responses that some of them have had.\u00a0 Alex has got a great story about the response to <em>Fireproof.<\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex<\/strong>:\u00a0 Yes, the weekend after <em>Fireproof\u2014w<\/em>hich surprised all of us\u2014it came out as the fourth top-grossing movie in the nation, the opening weekend.\u00a0 It wasn\u2019t even on their radar.\u00a0 So the entertainment publications began contacting us.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne guy said, \u201cWho in the world are you guys?\u201d\u00a0 We said, \u201cWe are a church in South Georgia.\u201d\u00a0 He said, \u201cA church!\u00a0 A church?\u201d\u00a0 He said, \u201cChurches don\u2019t make movies!\u201d\u00a0 We said, \u201cWell, right.\u00a0 This one does.\u201d\u00a0 He said, \u201cWe know everything that\u2019s coming, and we have a formula for how well it's going to do based on current marketing promotion.\u00a0 You guys were so under the radar\u2014all of a sudden you just appear as number four in the nation, and we are blind-sighted by this.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo we are thrilled when God shows off.\u00a0 We do not take credit for how well the things do.\u00a0 We obey the Lord.\u00a0 We try to do the best we can; but, ultimately, God is the one that turns the heart and changes lives.\u00a0 We don\u2019t do that.\u00a0 So we are grateful when God does something that we can\u2019t explain.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u00a0 And so Alex, what would you say is the biggest surprise in terms of Hollywood; and what you have learned since you started producing these movies with Sherwood Pictures?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex<\/strong>:\u00a0 For me, I would say the biggest surprise is their fascination with why it's working.\u00a0 One of the executives in Hollywood that we spoke with\u2014I am not going to tell you the name of the company\u2014but he came to us and he said, \u201cWe don\u2019t know how to figure you guys out.\u00a0 We don\u2019t know why people go see your movies.\u00a0 You don\u2019t have any A-list actors, you don\u2019t have any huge eye candy in these films, the budgets aren\u2019t gargantuan.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Are you saying you are not eye candy?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex<\/strong>:\u00a0 I am not, certainly not eye candy!\u00a0 (Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis<\/strong>:\u00a0 I am looking over your shoulder at your wife.\u00a0 Yes, she is finally nodding.\u00a0 That\u2019s good.\u00a0 That\u2019s good!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, she is being gracious to me.\u00a0 I think they are fascinated with, \u201cWhy do your movies work?\u201d\u00a0 I am not saying this to brag\u2014except on the Lord because he is the only One that makes them work\u2014but I love the fact that something is going on that\u2019s making them look over their shoulder and say, \u201cWhat\u2019s going over there in this small town in South Georgia?\u201d and, \u201cWhy are they making movies that people want to go see?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis<\/strong>:\u00a0 The favor of a Lord is of ultimate importance to you.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex and Stephen:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>That\u2019s right.\u00a0 That\u2019s exactly right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Explain how that works its way out in making a movie.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephen<\/strong>:\u00a0 Well, we talk about, \u201cKeeping God happy is our highest priority.\u201d\u00a0 So when it comes to writing, we lay it before the Lord.\u00a0 We say, \u201cGod, everybody has got a good movie idea,\u201d\u2014we found out because they keep sending them to us\u2014\u201cbut Lord, what\u2019s your idea?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen as we are casting, we are saying, \u201cLord who do You want to cast in each role?\u201d\u00a0 And even as we are on the set, we are saying, \u201cLord every day we are dedicating to You.\u00a0 We are dedicating what happens this day to You.\u00a0 We are seeking You for our provision and our protection.\u00a0 Enable these amateurs to act beyond their own ability.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tEven in the editing of the movie, we are saying, \u201cGod, is there anything in this movie that displeases You, that would be a stumbling block to children?\u201d\u00a0 Jesus said, \u201cDon\u2019t do it.\u201d\u00a0 So we try to honor the Lord.\u00a0 When you honor God, He promises He will bless you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis<\/strong>:\u00a0 What a novel thought for a movie!\u00a0 The ultimate objective is, \u201cWhat pleases You, God?\u201d\u00a0 How many times do you think that\u2019s occurred in the last 25 years?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex<\/strong>:\u00a0 Not often, and God is very interested in telling us what pleases Him.\u00a0 So when we seek Him, He opens doors, no one else could open and He shuts doors we should not walk through.\u00a0 God\u2019s favor is unlike anything else.\u00a0 When things happen that are unexplainable, that you have prayed for\u2014when your needs are met in unbelievable ways\u2014God is showing up and showing off.\u00a0 That\u2019s what He loves to do.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis<\/strong>:\u00a0 I am not going to get into what happened here at Family Life just in the last 30 days, but we have gone ahead and that occurred here on multiple fronts.\u00a0 I am grinning because it's just like we had nothing to do with it.\u00a0 I mean, it's not about human competency, human ability\u2014maneuvering, manipulating, pulling strings, superior ingenuity\u2014it's just all about God, as you said, \u201cshowing up and showing off.\u201d\u00a0 It's just fun because, in the end, nobody gets the credit.\u00a0 No organization gets the credit. It's just a group of people going, \u201cWow! God, You are up to something!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephen:<\/strong>\u00a0 You are awesome!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis<\/strong>:\u00a0 You are really up to something.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephen<\/strong>:\u00a0 Our pastor says something\u2014he says, \u201cGuys, we are so one foolish un-prayed-over decision away from God taking His hand of blessing off of us.\u00a0 That is something you steward.\u201d\u00a0 So all of us need to remain humble, and all of us need to keep seeking Him because sometimes in Scripture God warns them that when He blesses them, they forget Him.\u00a0 We can't do that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob<\/strong>:\u00a0 I know you guys have screened this movie for folks across the country.\u00a0 Critics have had a chance to see it at this point, and you are starting to hear some feedback.\u00a0 What are the stories you have already heard from people who have seen <em>Courageous\u2014<\/em>maybe folks who were at the Fox Theatre back in August?\u00a0 What are you hearing that\u2019s encouraging you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 We have done dozens and dozens of screenings.\u00a0 What I have heard more than anything else\u2014are men walking out\u2014some of them emotionally convicted, some devastated; but what I have heard more than anything else is, \u201cI have seen myself in the mirror, and I have seen where I need to step up.\u00a0 The Holy Spirit is all over me; and I want to run home, I want to embrace my kids and I want to start being the spiritual leader God has called me to be.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2014that is what we want, and I think that\u2019s what God wants!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephen:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>We are grateful that people are going out and they are saying, \u201cHey, we are rallying our church; we are rallying our community.\u00a0 We are buying up tickets for our police officers.\u00a0 We are setting up men\u2019s groups to get ready for this,\u201d because just like with <em>Fireproof<\/em>, people walk out of the movie\u2014they are emotionally charged and they are saying, \u201cI want to go do something now.\u201d\u00a0 We want the body of Christ to be ready to embrace them and then lead them down a path towards spiritual leadership in their homes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob<\/strong>:\u00a0 If we go back and look at the movies you have made:\u00a0 <em>Flywheel<\/em> came out.\u00a0 You made it for $20,000.\u00a0 It got just a few theatres where it got to show and then a half million DVDs.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<em>Facing the Giants<\/em>\u2014I think it opened on about 400 screens.\u00a0 It made $10 million and you spent a half million to make it.\u00a0 Then <em>Fireproof <\/em>comes out.\u00a0 You spent a million to make it; $33 million domestic box office, that\u2019s before you count the DVD stuff.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf this movie does $50 million, domestic box office\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Let\u2019s try $100 million.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>$50 to $100 million.\u00a0 I can imagine somebody calling up and saying, \u201cStephen and Alex, listen, you guys have obviously proven your skill.\u00a0 I know you have been a little hamstrung with money.\u00a0 Your next movie\u2014we would like to bank-roll it.\u00a0 We would like to give you $30 million to make your next film.\u00a0 You can do the whole faith-based thing.\u00a0 That\u2019s fine because, obviously, whatever you guys want to do that\u2019s fine; but we would like to bank-roll it with a $30 million budget.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis<\/strong>:\u00a0 Bob, are you auditioning right now?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob<\/strong>:\u00a0 No, I have been asking them about what the dates for the casting call are.\u00a0 (Laughter)\u00a0 That\u2019s off the air\u2014I was going to do that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephen:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>I was about to give him an e-mail address to send that money.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob<\/strong>:\u00a0 $30 million?\u00a0 How would you respond to a call like that?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex<\/strong>:\u00a0 First of all, there can't be any strings attached that aren\u2019t godly.\u00a0 We want God\u2019s best\u2014all of His best\u2014and for there to be nothing that would hinder God saying, \u201cThis is what I want you to do.\u201d\u00a0 So if somebody were to say, \u201cI will give you the money, but you go to do it my way,\u201d the answer is, \u201cNo.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob<\/strong>:\u00a0 Or if they said, \u201cThe studio retains final rights over this, or that, or that.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex<\/strong>:\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob<\/strong>:\u00a0 You want total, complete control over your movie.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephen<\/strong>:\u00a0 As a steward because we are accountable, ultimately, to the Lord.\u00a0 We don\u2019t want to put ourselves in a situation like where Joshua makes a covenant with the Gibeonites.\u00a0 As a result, it sets him up to disobey God.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex<\/strong>:\u00a0 That\u2019s exactly right.\u00a0 So, it is not an issue of us thinking we are too big for our britches.\u00a0 It's an issue of saying, \u201cLord, if You trust us with whatever amount of money, we will do exactly what You call us to do.\u201d\u00a0 If somebody is about that, \u201cJump on the bandwagon.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephen:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>\u201cLet\u2019s talk.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>We have a number of movies we\u2019d love to do and the one that jumps in my mind is Elijah\u2014doing the biblical epic of Elijah.\u00a0 I would call it <em>The Fire of God<\/em>\u2014how Elijah stood alone\u2014because we have to learn, if we are not supported as followers of God, as followers of Jesus Christ, we have to have the courage to stand alone.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob<\/strong>:\u00a0 So you have dreamed of the special effects you could do with a few extra million dollars?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>I have seen the whole movie in my head already!\u00a0 (Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis<\/strong>:\u00a0 You know, I am looking at what you have before you; and it\u2019s a little bit, not exactly, but it\u2019s a little bit of how <em>Courageous<\/em> concludes.\u00a0 It's called <em>The Resolution<\/em>.\u00a0 I am thinking back to Bob\u2019s question.\u00a0 This would be edited out.\u00a0 I mean, this is hardcore Christianity.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You mean if a studio was in charge of this, they would go, \u201cOh, that\u2019s too religious, too preachy!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh, yes.\u00a0 If the money was tied to this, they\u2019d go, \u201cYeah, you know, this is calling men.\u00a0 This is tough stuff you are talking here.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhy don\u2019t you just read the resolution and set it up\u2014as to the kind of scene and what this looks like\u2014and what you are playing out here.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex<\/strong>:\u00a0 In the movie, <em>Courageous<\/em>, when one of the dad goes through a tragedy, he begins to look at what kind of father he had been to his children.\u00a0 He realizes that he was accepting a \u201cgood enough\u201d standard.\u00a0 It is not good enough to be a good enough father.\u00a0 God calls us to be men of courage, men of strength, men of obedience, and masculine men of faith.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo in the movie, he pours through Scripture; writes this resolution.\u00a0 This is what it says, and he commits to be this type of dad in front of his family and friends.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe says:\u00a0 \u201cI do solemnly resolve before God to take full responsibility for myself, my wife, and my children.\u00a0 I will love them, protect them, serve them, and teach them the Word of God as the spiritual leader of my home.\u00a0 I will be faithful to my wife to love and honor her and be willing to lay down my life for her as Jesus Christ did for me.\u00a0 I will bless my children and teach them to love God with all of their hearts, all of their minds and all of their strength.\u00a0 I will train them to honor authority and live responsibly.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cI will confront evil, pursue justice, and love mercy.\u00a0 I will pray for others and treat them with kindness, respect, and compassion.\u00a0 I will work diligently to provide for the needs of my family.\u00a0 I will forgive those who have wronged me and reconcile with those I have wronged.\u00a0 I will learn from my mistakes, repent of my sins, and walk with integrity as a man answerable to God.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cI will seek to honor God, be faithful to His church, obey His Word, and do His will.\u00a0 I will courageously work with the strength God provides to fulfill this resolution for the rest of my life and for His glory.\u201d\u00a0 At the bottom, it says, \u201cAs for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.\u201d\u00a0 Joshua 24:15.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob<\/strong>:\u00a0 You know, that is a powerful scene there.\u00a0 Actually, twice in the movie\u2014there is a scene where the five men who are friends come together to have a ceremony and sign these resolutions.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen there is a scene at the end where you call a church to respond and call the men in the church to respond to these resolutions.\u00a0 Do you have one of those signed in your home?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex<\/strong>:\u00a0 It\u2019s hanging on my wall right now.\u00a0 But this is the other thing\u2014our pastor has set a date and he said, \u201cWe are going to call the men of our church, and we are not going to do it quickly.\u00a0 You have to make sure that what you are doing, you are serious about it and you know what you are signing.\u201d\u00a0 He is going to call the men of our church on a certain date\u2014those who are willing to come forward and take this resolution\u2014as the men of a church to hold one other accountable.\u00a0 So our church, which has made the movie, is going to step out and do this resolution.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob<\/strong>:\u00a0 Wow!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephen<\/strong>:\u00a0 We are getting phone calls from churches of the men who have already gone to some of these pre-screenings\u2014they are going through <em>The Resolution<\/em> book, and they are doing ceremonies.\u00a0 Networks of churches are coming together to do this.\u00a0 We are very excited because it could change the world\u2014if men will step up and do it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob<\/strong>:\u00a0 But these guys better be careful and not take the Lord\u2019s name in vain\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex<\/strong>:\u00a0 That\u2019s right; you got it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob<\/strong>:\u00a0 In the signing of\u2014I mean, you can be filled with emotion and say, \u201cThat\u2019s the kind of person I want to be.\u00a0 So I will sign it.\u201d\u00a0 But there is a difference between, \u201cThis is the guy I want to be,\u201d and, \u201cThis is the guy I will be.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephen:<\/strong>\u00a0 --which is why we wrote <em>The Resolution for Men.<\/em><em>\u00a0 <\/em>The entire book was written to help men understand and live out this resolution commitment.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Not just leave the movie feeling ashamed, or convicted, or guilty; but to leave there and have some hope because I think a lot of guys really do want to step up.\u00a0 They want to do as you charge them to do at the conclusion of the movie\u2014in that congregation with that church\u2014you could feel it in your chest.\u00a0 Men are out there going, \u201cYes!\u00a0 Yes!\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf enough men step up\u2014Hollywood, the power brokers of America\u2014I am telling you, the most powerful place is not Washington DC; the most powerful place is a family under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.\u00a0 If enough of them step up to become God\u2019s men, we are going to see a spiritual awakening in our nation.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\u00a0 May it be so, Lord.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephen:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s exactly right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex<\/strong>:\u00a0 You brought up something.\u00a0 Men are going to walk out when they see the film, and they are going to have a myriad of issues.\u00a0 They are going to say, \u201cWell, I didn\u2019t have an example in my dad,\u201d or, \u201cI am struggling with my own bitterness issues, or frustration, or hurt,\u201d or whatever it is.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe took great pains to address all of those things.\u00a0 \u201cHow do I be a chain-breaker?\u201d\u00a0 So <em>The Resolution for Men<\/em> book addresses these things.\u00a0 We hope that men read that before they sign this because you can't sign this when you don\u2019t realize you are accountable for doing this before the Lord.\u00a0 If you sign this, it is not a game.\u00a0 We\u2019d rather men not sign it and walk away rather than to sign it and not keep it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And we talked earlier how your dad was a chain-breaker\u2014how there was alcoholism, just all kinds of sin that was allowed to reign in homes and families.\u00a0 He decided, \u201cAs for me and house, I am going to leave a different legacy than the one I was given.\u201d\u00a0 I asked you earlier, Stephen, to give a tribute to your dad.\u00a0 Your dad is 69 years old.\u00a0 His name is\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Stephen:<\/strong>\u00a0 Larry Kendrick.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I warned you, Alex.\u00a0 I wanted you to come back today; and I wanted you to conclude our broadcast by honoring a man who has, indeed, broken a chain\u2014and maybe, a part of a giant chain and a legacy nationwide because of the work he has done in three boys\u2019 lives, who have become men, who represent him today.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You go ahead and take a few minutes to collect your thoughts while I remind listeners that the movie, <em>Courageous,<\/em> is out in theaters now; and we hope that you will go see it as soon as you can.\u00a0 We think the whole family will enjoy the film.\u00a0 We think dads, in particular, are going to be powerfully impacted by this movie, <em>Courageous<\/em>.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd then I would encourage you to go ahead right now and get some of the resources that you are going to want to have on-hand for when the movie is over because the movie is going to inspire you and challenge you as a man; and you are going to turn 70 soon.\u00a0 I would say I don\u2019t ever and have never wanted to be anybody else\u2019s son.\u00a0 I am proud of my dad, Larry Kendrick; and you are a gift to me\u2014and for teaching me to love God\u2014for demonstrating that yourself\u2014your struggles were real for me and I also saw you seek the Lord for how to get past them.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI have watched you struggle with multiple sclerosis and what it means for you;
