Twietmeyer and her husband had decided to make a very courageous decision.\u00a0 They had decided to adopt a little girl\u2014a ten-year-old who weighed 32 pounds and who was HIV-positive, living as an orphan in Africa.\u00a0 But before Carolyn left Africa to bring her new daughter back to the United States, she wanted to give the little girl a chance to say, \u201cGood bye\u201d to her younger brother and sister.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 At that point in time, I found out that they weren\u2019t actually living with anyone.\u00a0 They were living on their own in a little 10x10 mud-walled room, with no supervision, just on their own.\u00a0 As soon as I met them, I loved them.\u00a0 I saw how much they loved each other; and I realized the gravity of what they\u2019d already been through and what so many children go through, especially with HIV\u2014that they lose their parents.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I called my husband:\u00a0 \u201cBabe\u201d\u2014\u00a0 (Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 This is <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> for Monday, September 26<sup>th<\/sup>.\u00a0 Our host is the President of FamilyLife\u00ae, Dennis Rainey, and I'm Bob Lepine.\u00a0 Carolyn Twietmeyer joins us today to tell us how God gave her and her husband a big heart for kids in need.\u00a0 Stay tuned.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd welcome to <em>FamilyLife Today.<\/em><em>\u00a0 <\/em>Thanks for joining us on the Monday edition.\u00a0 You know, I wish our listeners could have been with us back in Louisville, Kentucky, back in May.\u00a0 We were there for a special event.\u00a0 Actually, it\u2019s an event that FamilyLife helped to pioneer seven years ago, right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 We partnered with <em>Focus on the Family<\/em>\u00ae, Steven Curtis Chapman, Bethany Christian Services, and a number of orphan care agencies to help pull together a meeting, really a collection point, of all those folks who care about orphans and the issue of adoption and foster care.\u00a0 We made it possible for everybody to begin to dialogue with each other.\u00a0 It has grown into a huge conference.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, the first meeting had about 30 people there.\u00a0 This one in Louisville had about 1,500 people who were in the audience.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 We decided to do something really unusual.\u00a0 We decided to actually take <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> onstage.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 We had a guest there, Carolyn Twietmeyer, who was present at the summit and had a great story to tell.\u00a0 We thought, \u201cLet\u2019s record a program and let our listeners hear what it was like to be at the summit and get a chance to meet Carolyn as well.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, here from the Christian Alliance for the Orphan Summit VII, back in Louisville in May, is a special live edition of <em>FamilyLife Today.<\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(Recorded in May 2011):\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You know, we have, over 19 years now, done a number of programs where we\u2019ve had a <em>little <\/em>studio audience joining us.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, you know, half a dozen folks will be outside watching us.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I don\u2019t think we\u2019ve ever done one where we\u2019ve had this many folks.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 This is the largest studio I\u2019ve ever been in.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 This seats, what, 9,000 people?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 9,000 people.\u00a0 (Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And we do have an audience here with us\u2014not a full 9,000, but a bunch of folks.\u00a0 Hi, everybody!\u00a0 (Loud applause)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 How\u2019s that?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, these folks are here because they care about the needs of orphans.\u00a0 What <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> has attempted to do, since our inception, is give voice to those who have no voice.\u00a0 We\u2019ve attempted to champion the cause of orphans on <em>FamilyLife Today <\/em>by talking about the Christian Alliance for Orphans\u00ae.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe\u2019ve teamed up with Focus on the Family, with Stephen Curtis Chapman, our own Hope for Orphans\u00ae ministry that we have.\u00a0 We\u2019ve interviewed heroes who stand for meeting the needs of orphans.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe have a bona fide hero to introduce to our audience today.\u00a0 Carolyn Twietmeyer joins us on <em>FamilyLife Today.<\/em><em>\u00a0 <\/em>(Applause)\u00a0 Carolyn, welcome.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Thank you!\u00a0 Thank you for having me.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Wait, wait, wait.\u00a0 She brought a fan club with her or something!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 She did bring a fan club.\u00a0 Carolyn and her husband Kiel live in Chicago.\u00a0 They are the founders of Project HOPEFUL, which helps families who are considering adopting HIV-positive children.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI guess what I want to do\u2014just to bring our audience\u2014who have already cheered and they haven\u2019t even heard your story yet\u2014Carolyn, let\u2019s go back to the beginning.\u00a0 Where did this journey start for you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, the journey started when I was about seven or eight years old, and I would see the Ethiopian drought on TV.\u00a0 There was a lot of footage back then.\u00a0 To me, at that point, even at a young age, it wasn\u2019t rocket science.\u00a0 We had so much and they had nothing.\u00a0 I was always in my head saying, \u201cWe have an extra bedroom.\u00a0 We have more food than we need.\u00a0 Why can\u2019t we bring them here?\u201d\u00a0 I was thinking about the neighbors and things like that, too.\u00a0 Why was that not happening?\u00a0 It didn\u2019t make any sense.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat carried on through my life and interestingly enough\u2014in 2002, at a <em>Rekindling Your Romance<\/em> marriage conference\u2014that you had going on\u2014my husband and I went.\u00a0 We saw our first Stephen Curtis Chapman and Mary Beth Chapman interview, and a video that was played.\u00a0 It was then that God really spoke into me that this was the route we were to go.\u00a0 Amazingly, enough, here we are today.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Now, you had been married for how many years at that point?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 We had just been married for about three years at that point.\u00a0 Kiel married me with four children.\u00a0 I had four children; he married me.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, a blended family.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, he didn\u2019t have children at that point in time.\u00a0 He married me with four.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You still seem a little amazed that that happened!\u00a0 (Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 I am!\u00a0 A lot of people are!\u00a0 (Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And you went on to have three more\u2014you and Kiel?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Kiel and I had three more biological children.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Had you ever talked about, \u201cSomeday it might be cool if we adopted,\u201d\u2014anything like that?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think I would bring it up to him periodically.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 He was all for it, right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 No, not so much!\u00a0 (Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 No, he\u2019s logical that way.\u00a0 Most men are.\u00a0 It took a while for God to do what He did.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, when you\u2019re sitting in the United Center in Chicago and there are 7,500 people there that day for this marriage event, and there are Stephen Curtis and Mary Beth Chapman, and they\u2019re talking about bringing home Shaohannah and starting Shaohannah\u2019s Hope, you were going, \u201cThis is it!\u201d?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 I had never seen it spoken about before ever.\u00a0 It was just an idea.\u00a0 I saw them, and I was destroyed for the rest of the conference.\u00a0 I wept through the whole thing.\u00a0 I was on a mission after that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, what moved you to ultimately go to Ethiopia, then?\u00a0 What were the circumstances or the events that led up to that?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, Kiel, after he finally agreed and understood where I believed God was coming from, poor guy\u2014\u00a0 (Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, you\u2019d been weeping all afternoon.\u00a0 He\u2019s got to understand something\u2019s going on here, right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 I just told him at that point that I believed God was really moving\u2014at least He was moving me.\u00a0 It took a couple more years after that of more seeds being planted.\u00a0 I\u2019m a slow learner.\u00a0 So it was more seeds being planted.\u00a0 Kiel had initially agreed we would do one special-needs girl adoption from India.\u00a0 God had completely other plans.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, how do you get from India to Ethiopia?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 I had called about a home study.\u00a0 I had seen pictures of a sibling group of three.\u00a0 There were an older girl, nine years old; a little boy, who was about four years old, that had HIV; and an infant, who at that point was three months old.\u00a0 I thought, \u201cYou know, everybody wants that infant, that healthy baby.\u00a0 Fewer people are going to go after the older child.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI immediately thought, \u201cThese children are going to be separated.\u201d\u00a0 My heart just broke.\u00a0 I couldn\u2019t bear the idea.\u00a0 At that point, there was no information about children with HIV being adopted.\u00a0 Only one successful HIV adoption had been completed in Ethiopia at that point in time. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThere were no resources.\u00a0 There was nothing.\u00a0 My first fear was, \u201cHow can I possibly endanger my entire family?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 It took me four minutes online to find the reality of HIV.\u00a0 I was getting all of my information for when my dear husband walked through the door so I could let him know what God had planned for us!\u00a0 (Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And you kept crying, and crying, and providing the statistics\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I want to hear a little of the conversation that took place when you said, \u201cHey, instead of one from India, I\u2019ve got this great idea!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s how it went.\u00a0 I said, \u201cBabe, I found our three kids!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u201cBabe,\u201d is always a good way to start that conversation!\u00a0 (Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 That poor man!\u00a0 I learned the true meaning of a \u201cfull quiver.\u201d\u00a0 It\u2019s not what we think it is.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 What did he say, though, seriously?\u00a0 I mean, you said \u201cthree.\u201d\u00a0 What was his response?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u201cWoman, have you lost your mind?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u201cHow can we afford <em>three<\/em> kids?\u201d\u00a0 I waited until a little bit more into the conversation to share that there was a little HIV involved.\u00a0 (Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 A little HIV involved?\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Now, you all are not independently wealthy.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And you already had seven kids in the home?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u201cWoman, are you out of your mind?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 How did you get Kiel to get on that plane to go over there?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, it took two weeks for the Lord to work it out with Kiel.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI said, \u201cI am going to keep my mouth shut, Lord.\u00a0 If this is You (and I believed with all my heart that it was), then Kiel will be convinced that this was the route to go.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBelieve it or not, I shut my mouth for two weeks; and I prayed.\u00a0 I kept my mouth shut.\u00a0 He came home one day after work and had been just completely broken.\u00a0 He spent every single day of those 14 days on worksites, wearing hard hats, hearing something about adoption.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe Lord would bring something to him every single day.\u00a0 So, he came to me and he was finished.\u00a0 He looked like a deer in the headlights.\u00a0 God had used every person, every song on the radio, to open his heart.\u00a0 He said, \u201cHoney, these are our three kids.\u00a0 We are to be their parents.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You know, it\u2019s interesting, I don\u2019t know how many times we\u2019ve heard somebody say, \u201cI decided I would quit talking about it and just let the Lord work in this,\u201d and how many times that ends up in God doing a move.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, Carolyn was smart to do that because this is too big of a decision.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou and I were talking before we came up here.\u00a0 It\u2019s imperative that a husband and a wife be <em>one<\/em> about this because you don\u2019t know what is all wrapped up in caring for an adopted child\u2014the dynamics that creates in your family, let alone the HIV issue.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, you finally get Kiel to go to Ethiopia.\u00a0 Did you have all the money in hand?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 No, we left; and we took a second mortgage out.\u00a0 We didn\u2019t get a single grant after I had already told him that, \u201cGod said He\u2019s going to pay for this adoption.\u201d\u00a0 I believed it!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe are still in Ethiopia at this point, for a week.\u00a0 I said, \u201cHe\u2019s going to pay for this adoption.\u201d\u00a0 I told a whole roomful of 19-year-old kids there on a mission trip, when they asked how we were affording this\u2014I said, \u201cWell, we took out a second mortgage, but God\u2019s going to pay for this!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, probably about 10 o\u2019clock at night, we\u2019re all sitting around in this very quiet room\u2014no TV or anything\u2014and the phone rings.\u00a0 It was my mom. She said, \u201cI have to tell you something.\u00a0 Are you sitting down?\u201d\u00a0 I said, \u201cYes.\u00a0 What\u2019s going on?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You\u2019re in Ethiopia?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 We\u2019re in Ethiopia, with a second mortgage and no grants.\u00a0 She said, \u201cI have to tell you that someone from Shaohannah\u2019s Hope just called.\u201d\u00a0 (It was Shaohannah\u2019s Hope at the time.)\u00a0 \u201cSomeone made an anonymous donation of $20,000 to your adoption.\u201d\u00a0 So every penny, every need, was met for that adoption.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 As you told that story, there\u2019s a little emotion still attached to that, isn\u2019t there?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 It\u2019s amazing!\u00a0 It\u2019s amazing because I believed what I heard.\u00a0 I heard Him and I knew that He was going to do it.\u00a0 Even when it was a little embarrassing to say, \u201cHe\u2019s going to still do this,\u201d He came through.\u00a0 And He comes through so miraculously, so often, as we operate in this.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 That was not the only way He came through while you were in Ethiopia.\u00a0 There was an additional encounter that occurred while you were there.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes!\u00a0 In Ethiopia\u2014in most countries\u2014they separate children with HIV from children without HIV.\u00a0 I had gone back to the orphanage with Samuel to allow him to play with his friends and visit there.\u00a0 This was the HIV-positive orphanage.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhile I was in there, in walked two social workers and this beautiful little girl, with the most incredible devastation I\u2019ve ever witnessed in my life on her face.\u00a0 I had no idea what was going on.\u00a0 Even the social workers were teary and distraught.\u00a0 I thought, \u201cCertainly they\u2019ve seen everything by now.\u00a0 What in the world could possibly happen that would wreck some social workers <em>here <\/em>of all places?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tJust through some speaking to them, and feeling such a desperate need to comfort this child, they explained to me that she had just been taken away from her older brother and sister who had to make the decision to relinquish her in order to save her life because she was HIV-positive.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe had <em>no <\/em>thoughts of parenting another child.\u00a0 We were bringing three home; we didn\u2019t believe I was wrong there.\u00a0 But I thought I would go and advocate for her.\u00a0 I sat with her and I held her hand, and I spoke with her.\u00a0 Her condition was still relatively good.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt was about six months in, after we had left Ethiopia\u2014I had introduced her to Kiel because she was just such a beautiful, precious, precious child.\u00a0 Six months later, I found out she had had no inquiries from any families to adopt her.\u00a0 Her health was rapidly declining.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And you made her a promise, right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 I promised her, myself, and whoever else would listen, that I would pray her into a family.\u00a0 We\u2019d done it before.\u00a0 I was going to go pray that kid into a family.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Let me go back to coming home now with three kids from Ethiopia, one of them who is HIV-positive.\u00a0 Your family is now ten children.\u00a0 Where do you put ten children in a house?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 We use our vertical space.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I see.\u00a0 (Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 We do have a \u201ctriple-decker\u201d bunk bed.\u00a0 Truthfully, we do have enough bedrooms.\u00a0 Kiel built on two more.\u00a0 One\u2019s an office; so we have eight bedrooms.\u00a0 The reality is that our kids like to be together as often as possible.\u00a0 They\u2019re like little hamsters heaped up in the morning.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThey would rather be together anyway.\u00a0 As much as we try to understand the privacy issue; and, for most of the world, that\u2019s a question people often ask us, \u201cWhere do you put them all?\u00a0 Do they have their own rooms?\u201d\u00a0 They prefer to be together.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And dealing with the HIV issue.\u00a0 What has that required of you, as a mom, now?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, it\u2019s required universal precautions, as everybody should use.\u00a0 That\u2019s not even an issue.\u00a0 We go to the doctor every three months or so now and get blood work.\u00a0 One of them takes medication twice a day.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s been no different than most other adoptions I know of.\u00a0 It\u2019s not that big of a deal.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And the four, plus the three, plus the three\u2014because there were four kids who came into the family when you got married; there were three more who are yours and Kiel\u2019s; and then here are your three adopted kids.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, we had adopted Selah first.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Okay.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Then, when I was there with her for the month\u2014some other amazing things that happened.\u00a0 Oddly enough, I could not even drive on an expressway or go to a grocery store by myself.\u00a0 The next thing you know, the Lord has me in Ethiopia by myself with a little girl in the end-stage of AIDS when I went back to get her.\u00a0 She was thirty-two pounds at ten years old.\u00a0 They were telling me she wasn\u2019t going to survive to make it home.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 This is Selah, now?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 This is Selah; and this is me, in Africa by myself!\u00a0 (Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Ten kids back home?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And Kiel going, \u201cWoman, you are out of your mind!\u201d again?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes!\u00a0 (Laughter)\u00a0 Actually, by this time, when I said, \u201cNobody\u2019s inquired about Selah\u201d\u2014her name was Erodanos.\u00a0 I said, \u201cNobody\u2019s inquired about her, and her health is declining.\u201d\u00a0 That time, he said, \u201cOh, well that\u2019s a no-brainer.\u00a0 We have to go get her.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Wow!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 I was thinking, \u201cWhat!?\u201d\u00a0 (Applause)\u00a0 \u201cWait a minute.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, how did you move from Selah, then, to her brother and sister?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 Well, while we were there, Selah\u2019s health was so bad that they were actually telling me I should probably have her siblings come see her because she probably wouldn\u2019t even survive to get on the airplane and go home.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo we worked that out.\u00a0 At that point in time, I found out that they weren\u2019t actually living with anyone.\u00a0 They were on their own in a little 10x10, mud-walled room with no supervision\u2014just on their own.\u00a0 As soon as I met them, I loved them.\u00a0 I saw how much they loved each other.\u00a0 I realized the gravity of what they\u2019d already been through; what so many children go through, especially with HIV\u2014that they lose their parents.\u00a0 If one of those children is infected, it\u2019s not typically the situation that they are together.\u00a0 It\u2019s a tragedy that can be prevented.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I called my husband\u2014\u00a0 (Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u201cBabe?\u201d\u00a0 (Laughter)\u00a0 So, while we were in the hospital with Selah\u2014she had a hemoglobin level of 4.\u00a0 You can\u2019t even get on an airplane unless you\u2019re an 8 or a 9; and even then it\u2019s low.\u00a0 So the only way to help her would have been if I was a match for her blood.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 And, lo and behold, I was a match for Selah.\u00a0 I was able to give her my blood, and get her on an airplane, and get her to the University of Chicago Hospital where they just whipped her back into shape.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Wow.\u00a0 Amazing!\u00a0 And then you went back and got the brother and sister. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Two years\u2014it took two years.\u00a0 One week before my son turned 18\u2014which, at the embassy, they cannot come after they turn 18\u2014one week before, we had a successful embassy appointment.\u00a0 We went back to the airport and brought our very healthy and robust Selah to meet with her brother and sister who never thought they\u2019d see her again.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Amazing!\u00a0 (Applause)\u00a0 I\u2019m looking at the clock, and there\u2019s one last question I have to ask you.\u00a0 Now you have 13.\u00a0 Then, the God of all surprises\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes!\u00a0 The phone call was something like, \u201cBabe?\u201d\u00a0 (Laughter)\u00a0 \u201cSo, what would you do if God said, \u2018I want you to adopt again\u2019?\u201d\u00a0 By now, he knows better.\u00a0 So he said, \u201cWell, of course, I would never say, \u2018No\u2019 to God.\u201d\u00a0 We know what comes out of this\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019d say, \u201cPut Him on the line and let me talk to Him!\u201d\u00a0 (Laughter)\u00a0 I want to go direct with Him on this one!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 But this time, it was a little more like, \u201cSo what do you think about a little Downs Syndrome?\u201d\u00a0 Miracle after miracle happened, and we found out about our baby four weeks prior.\u00a0 On Easter Sunday, our baby arrived.\u00a0 On Monday, we had court and we have 14 amazing, amazing children; and a little Sophia Hope who has rocked my world!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Has your husband canceled your cell phone service or anything?\u00a0 (Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Carolyn, I\u2019m looking at James 1:27, which could be the theme verse of the Summit here.\u00a0 It says, \u201cReligion that is pure and undefiled before God is this:\u00a0 to visit orphans and widows in their affliction and to keep oneself unstained from the world.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou\u2019ve really demonstrated, I believe, what the Gospel is all about.\u00a0 Jesus Christ paid an enormous price to adopt us.\u00a0 I think a lot of people expect adoption to be easy, a noble thing.\u00a0 It involves challenges, faith, perseverance, confronting fears, and courage.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tCarolyn mentioned that in five years, they\u2019ve only been able to tell their story in one church.\u00a0 The church is not expressing interest in, I think, adopting children who have HIV\/AIDS.\u00a0 I think it\u2019s because we don\u2019t know what to do.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m grateful for Project HOPEFUL, which you\u2019re giving leadership to and communicating to the Christian community the truth about the disease and how it can be managed and how the church can embrace those who have AIDS.\u00a0 You really are a hero of the faith, and I\u2019ve got a feeling there\u2019ll be a few churches calling.\u00a0 (Applause)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tGod bless you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Thank Twietmeyer and her husband had decided to make a very courageous decision.\u00a0 They had decided to adopt a little girl\u2014a ten-year-old who weighed 32 pounds and who was HIV-positive, living as an orphan in Africa.\u00a0 But before Carolyn left Africa to bring her new daughter back to the United States, she wanted to give the little girl a chance to say, \u201cGood bye\u201d to her younger brother and sister.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 At that point in time, I found out that they weren\u2019t actually living with anyone.\u00a0 They were living on their own in a little 10x10 mud-walled room, with no supervision, just on their own.\u00a0 As soon as I met them, I loved them.\u00a0 I saw how much they loved each other; and I realized the gravity of what they\u2019d already been through and what so many children go through, especially with HIV\u2014that they lose their parents.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I called my husband:\u00a0 \u201cBabe\u201d\u2014\u00a0 (Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 This is <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> for Monday, September 26<sup>th<\/sup>.\u00a0 Our host is the President of FamilyLife\u00ae, Dennis Rainey, and I'm Bob Lepine.\u00a0 Carolyn Twietmeyer joins us today to tell us how God gave her and her husband a big heart for kids in need.\u00a0 Stay tuned.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd welcome to <em>FamilyLife Today.<\/em><em>\u00a0 <\/em>Thanks for joining us on the Monday edition.\u00a0 You know, I wish our listeners could have been with us back in Louisville, Kentucky, back in May.\u00a0 We were there for a special event.\u00a0 Actually, it\u2019s an event that FamilyLife helped to pioneer seven years ago, right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 We partnered with <em>Focus on the Family<\/em>\u00ae, Steven Curtis Chapman, Bethany Christian Services, and a number of orphan care agencies to help pull together a meeting, really a collection point, of all those folks who care about orphans and the issue of adoption and foster care.\u00a0 We made it possible for everybody to begin to dialogue with each other.\u00a0 It has grown into a huge conference.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, the first meeting had about 30 people there.\u00a0 This one in Louisville had about 1,500 people who were in the audience.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 We decided to do something really unusual.\u00a0 We decided to actually take <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> onstage.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 We had a guest there, Carolyn Twietmeyer, who was present at the summit and had a great story to tell.\u00a0 We thought, \u201cLet\u2019s record a program and let our listeners hear what it was like to be at the summit and get a chance to meet Carolyn as well.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, here from the Christian Alliance for the Orphan Summit VII, back in Louisville in May, is a special live edition of <em>FamilyLife Today.<\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(Recorded in May 2011):\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You know, we have, over 19 years now, done a number of programs where we\u2019ve had a <em>little <\/em>studio audience joining us.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, you know, half a dozen folks will be outside watching us.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I don\u2019t think we\u2019ve ever done one where we\u2019ve had this many folks.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 This is the largest studio I\u2019ve ever been in.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 This seats, what, 9,000 people?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 9,000 people.\u00a0 (Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And we do have an audience here with us\u2014not a full 9,000, but a bunch of folks.\u00a0 Hi, everybody!\u00a0 (Loud applause)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 How\u2019s that?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, these folks are here because they care about the needs of orphans.\u00a0 What <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> has attempted to do, since our inception, is give voice to those who have no voice.\u00a0 We\u2019ve attempted to champion the cause of orphans on <em>FamilyLife Today <\/em>by talking about the Christian Alliance for Orphans\u00ae.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe\u2019ve teamed up with Focus on the Family, with Stephen Curtis Chapman, our own Hope for Orphans\u00ae ministry that we have.\u00a0 We\u2019ve interviewed heroes who stand for meeting the needs of orphans.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe have a bona fide hero to introduce to our audience today.\u00a0 Carolyn Twietmeyer joins us on <em>FamilyLife Today.<\/em><em>\u00a0 <\/em>(Applause)\u00a0 Carolyn, welcome.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Thank you!\u00a0 Thank you for having me.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Wait, wait, wait.\u00a0 She brought a fan club with her or something!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 She did bring a fan club.\u00a0 Carolyn and her husband Kiel live in Chicago.\u00a0 They are the founders of Project HOPEFUL, which helps families who are considering adopting HIV-positive children.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI guess what I want to do\u2014just to bring our audience\u2014who have already cheered and they haven\u2019t even heard your story yet\u2014Carolyn, let\u2019s go back to the beginning.\u00a0 Where did this journey start for you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, the journey started when I was about seven or eight years old, and I would see the Ethiopian drought on TV.\u00a0 There was a lot of footage back then.\u00a0 To me, at that point, even at a young age, it wasn\u2019t rocket science.\u00a0 We had so much and they had nothing.\u00a0 I was always in my head saying, \u201cWe have an extra bedroom.\u00a0 We have more food than we need.\u00a0 Why can\u2019t we bring them here?\u201d\u00a0 I was thinking about the neighbors and things like that, too.\u00a0 Why was that not happening?\u00a0 It didn\u2019t make any sense.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat carried on through my life and interestingly enough\u2014in 2002, at a <em>Rekindling Your Romance<\/em> marriage conference\u2014that you had going on\u2014my husband and I went.\u00a0 We saw our first Stephen Curtis Chapman and Mary Beth Chapman interview, and a video that was played.\u00a0 It was then that God really spoke into me that this was the route we were to go.\u00a0 Amazingly, enough, here we are today.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Now, you had been married for how many years at that point?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 We had just been married for about three years at that point.\u00a0 Kiel married me with four children.\u00a0 I had four children; he married me.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, a blended family.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, he didn\u2019t have children at that point in time.\u00a0 He married me with four.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You still seem a little amazed that that happened!\u00a0 (Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 I am!\u00a0 A lot of people are!\u00a0 (Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And you went on to have three more\u2014you and Kiel?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Kiel and I had three more biological children.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Had you ever talked about, \u201cSomeday it might be cool if we adopted,\u201d\u2014anything like that?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think I would bring it up to him periodically.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 He was all for it, right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 No, not so much!\u00a0 (Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 No, he\u2019s logical that way.\u00a0 Most men are.\u00a0 It took a while for God to do what He did.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, when you\u2019re sitting in the United Center in Chicago and there are 7,500 people there that day for this marriage event, and there are Stephen Curtis and Mary Beth Chapman, and they\u2019re talking about bringing home Shaohannah and starting Shaohannah\u2019s Hope, you were going, \u201cThis is it!\u201d?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 I had never seen it spoken about before ever.\u00a0 It was just an idea.\u00a0 I saw them, and I was destroyed for the rest of the conference.\u00a0 I wept through the whole thing.\u00a0 I was on a mission after that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, what moved you to ultimately go to Ethiopia, then?\u00a0 What were the circumstances or the events that led up to that?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, Kiel, after he finally agreed and understood where I believed God was coming from, poor guy\u2014\u00a0 (Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, you\u2019d been weeping all afternoon.\u00a0 He\u2019s got to understand something\u2019s going on here, right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 I just told him at that point that I believed God was really moving\u2014at least He was moving me.\u00a0 It took a couple more years after that of more seeds being planted.\u00a0 I\u2019m a slow learner.\u00a0 So it was more seeds being planted.\u00a0 Kiel had initially agreed we would do one special-needs girl adoption from India.\u00a0 God had completely other plans.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, how do you get from India to Ethiopia?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 I had called about a home study.\u00a0 I had seen pictures of a sibling group of three.\u00a0 There were an older girl, nine years old; a little boy, who was about four years old, that had HIV; and an infant, who at that point was three months old.\u00a0 I thought, \u201cYou know, everybody wants that infant, that healthy baby.\u00a0 Fewer people are going to go after the older child.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI immediately thought, \u201cThese children are going to be separated.\u201d\u00a0 My heart just broke.\u00a0 I couldn\u2019t bear the idea.\u00a0 At that point, there was no information about children with HIV being adopted.\u00a0 Only one successful HIV adoption had been completed in Ethiopia at that point in time. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThere were no resources.\u00a0 There was nothing.\u00a0 My first fear was, \u201cHow can I possibly endanger my entire family?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 It took me four minutes online to find the reality of HIV.\u00a0 I was getting all of my information for when my dear husband walked through the door so I could let him know what God had planned for us!\u00a0 (Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And you kept crying, and crying, and providing the statistics\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I want to hear a little of the conversation that took place when you said, \u201cHey, instead of one from India, I\u2019ve got this great idea!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s how it went.\u00a0 I said, \u201cBabe, I found our three kids!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u201cBabe,\u201d is always a good way to start that conversation!\u00a0 (Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 That poor man!\u00a0 I learned the true meaning of a \u201cfull quiver.\u201d\u00a0 It\u2019s not what we think it is.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 What did he say, though, seriously?\u00a0 I mean, you said \u201cthree.\u201d\u00a0 What was his response?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u201cWoman, have you lost your mind?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u201cHow can we afford <em>three<\/em> kids?\u201d\u00a0 I waited until a little bit more into the conversation to share that there was a little HIV involved.\u00a0 (Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 A little HIV involved?\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Now, you all are not independently wealthy.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And you already had seven kids in the home?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u201cWoman, are you out of your mind?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 How did you get Kiel to get on that plane to go over there?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, it took two weeks for the Lord to work it out with Kiel.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI said, \u201cI am going to keep my mouth shut, Lord.\u00a0 If this is You (and I believed with all my heart that it was), then Kiel will be convinced that this was the route to go.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBelieve it or not, I shut my mouth for two weeks; and I prayed.\u00a0 I kept my mouth shut.\u00a0 He came home one day after work and had been just completely broken.\u00a0 He spent every single day of those 14 days on worksites, wearing hard hats, hearing something about adoption.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe Lord would bring something to him every single day.\u00a0 So, he came to me and he was finished.\u00a0 He looked like a deer in the headlights.\u00a0 God had used every person, every song on the radio, to open his heart.\u00a0 He said, \u201cHoney, these are our three kids.\u00a0 We are to be their parents.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You know, it\u2019s interesting, I don\u2019t know how many times we\u2019ve heard somebody say, \u201cI decided I would quit talking about it and just let the Lord work in this,\u201d and how many times that ends up in God doing a move.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, Carolyn was smart to do that because this is too big of a decision.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou and I were talking before we came up here.\u00a0 It\u2019s imperative that a husband and a wife be <em>one<\/em> about this because you don\u2019t know what is all wrapped up in caring for an adopted child\u2014the dynamics that creates in your family, let alone the HIV issue.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, you finally get Kiel to go to Ethiopia.\u00a0 Did you have all the money in hand?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 No, we left; and we took a second mortgage out.\u00a0 We didn\u2019t get a single grant after I had already told him that, \u201cGod said He\u2019s going to pay for this adoption.\u201d\u00a0 I believed it!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe are still in Ethiopia at this point, for a week.\u00a0 I said, \u201cHe\u2019s going to pay for this adoption.\u201d\u00a0 I told a whole roomful of 19-year-old kids there on a mission trip, when they asked how we were affording this\u2014I said, \u201cWell, we took out a second mortgage, but God\u2019s going to pay for this!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, probably about 10 o\u2019clock at night, we\u2019re all sitting around in this very quiet room\u2014no TV or anything\u2014and the phone rings.\u00a0 It was my mom. She said, \u201cI have to tell you something.\u00a0 Are you sitting down?\u201d\u00a0 I said, \u201cYes.\u00a0 What\u2019s going on?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You\u2019re in Ethiopia?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 We\u2019re in Ethiopia, with a second mortgage and no grants.\u00a0 She said, \u201cI have to tell you that someone from Shaohannah\u2019s Hope just called.\u201d\u00a0 (It was Shaohannah\u2019s Hope at the time.)\u00a0 \u201cSomeone made an anonymous donation of $20,000 to your adoption.\u201d\u00a0 So every penny, every need, was met for that adoption.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 As you told that story, there\u2019s a little emotion still attached to that, isn\u2019t there?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 It\u2019s amazing!\u00a0 It\u2019s amazing because I believed what I heard.\u00a0 I heard Him and I knew that He was going to do it.\u00a0 Even when it was a little embarrassing to say, \u201cHe\u2019s going to still do this,\u201d He came through.\u00a0 And He comes through so miraculously, so often, as we operate in this.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 That was not the only way He came through while you were in Ethiopia.\u00a0 There was an additional encounter that occurred while you were there.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes!\u00a0 In Ethiopia\u2014in most countries\u2014they separate children with HIV from children without HIV.\u00a0 I had gone back to the orphanage with Samuel to allow him to play with his friends and visit there.\u00a0 This was the HIV-positive orphanage.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhile I was in there, in walked two social workers and this beautiful little girl, with the most incredible devastation I\u2019ve ever witnessed in my life on her face.\u00a0 I had no idea what was going on.\u00a0 Even the social workers were teary and distraught.\u00a0 I thought, \u201cCertainly they\u2019ve seen everything by now.\u00a0 What in the world could possibly happen that would wreck some social workers <em>here <\/em>of all places?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tJust through some speaking to them, and feeling such a desperate need to comfort this child, they explained to me that she had just been taken away from her older brother and sister who had to make the decision to relinquish her in order to save her life because she was HIV-positive.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe had <em>no <\/em>thoughts of parenting another child.\u00a0 We were bringing three home; we didn\u2019t believe I was wrong there.\u00a0 But I thought I would go and advocate for her.\u00a0 I sat with her and I held her hand, and I spoke with her.\u00a0 Her condition was still relatively good.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt was about six months in, after we had left Ethiopia\u2014I had introduced her to Kiel because she was just such a beautiful, precious, precious child.\u00a0 Six months later, I found out she had had no inquiries from any families to adopt her.\u00a0 Her health was rapidly declining.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And you made her a promise, right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 I promised her, myself, and whoever else would listen, that I would pray her into a family.\u00a0 We\u2019d done it before.\u00a0 I was going to go pray that kid into a family.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Let me go back to coming home now with three kids from Ethiopia, one of them who is HIV-positive.\u00a0 Your family is now ten children.\u00a0 Where do you put ten children in a house?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 We use our vertical space.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I see.\u00a0 (Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 We do have a \u201ctriple-decker\u201d bunk bed.\u00a0 Truthfully, we do have enough bedrooms.\u00a0 Kiel built on two more.\u00a0 One\u2019s an office; so we have eight bedrooms.\u00a0 The reality is that our kids like to be together as often as possible.\u00a0 They\u2019re like little hamsters heaped up in the morning.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThey would rather be together anyway.\u00a0 As much as we try to understand the privacy issue; and, for most of the world, that\u2019s a question people often ask us, \u201cWhere do you put them all?\u00a0 Do they have their own rooms?\u201d\u00a0 They prefer to be together.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And dealing with the HIV issue.\u00a0 What has that required of you, as a mom, now?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, it\u2019s required universal precautions, as everybody should use.\u00a0 That\u2019s not even an issue.\u00a0 We go to the doctor every three months or so now and get blood work.\u00a0 One of them takes medication twice a day.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s been no different than most other adoptions I know of.\u00a0 It\u2019s not that big of a deal.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And the four, plus the three, plus the three\u2014because there were four kids who came into the family when you got married; there were three more who are yours and Kiel\u2019s; and then here are your three adopted kids.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, we had adopted Selah first.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Okay.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Then, when I was there with her for the month\u2014some other amazing things that happened.\u00a0 Oddly enough, I could not even drive on an expressway or go to a grocery store by myself.\u00a0 The next thing you know, the Lord has me in Ethiopia by myself with a little girl in the end-stage of AIDS when I went back to get her.\u00a0 She was thirty-two pounds at ten years old.\u00a0 They were telling me she wasn\u2019t going to survive to make it home.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 This is Selah, now?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 This is Selah; and this is me, in Africa by myself!\u00a0 (Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Ten kids back home?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And Kiel going, \u201cWoman, you are out of your mind!\u201d again?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes!\u00a0 (Laughter)\u00a0 Actually, by this time, when I said, \u201cNobody\u2019s inquired about Selah\u201d\u2014her name was Erodanos.\u00a0 I said, \u201cNobody\u2019s inquired about her, and her health is declining.\u201d\u00a0 That time, he said, \u201cOh, well that\u2019s a no-brainer.\u00a0 We have to go get her.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Wow!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 I was thinking, \u201cWhat!?\u201d\u00a0 (Applause)\u00a0 \u201cWait a minute.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, how did you move from Selah, then, to her brother and sister?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 Well, while we were there, Selah\u2019s health was so bad that they were actually telling me I should probably have her siblings come see her because she probably wouldn\u2019t even survive to get on the airplane and go home.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo we worked that out.\u00a0 At that point in time, I found out that they weren\u2019t actually living with anyone.\u00a0 They were on their own in a little 10x10, mud-walled room with no supervision\u2014just on their own.\u00a0 As soon as I met them, I loved them.\u00a0 I saw how much they loved each other.\u00a0 I realized the gravity of what they\u2019d already been through; what so many children go through, especially with HIV\u2014that they lose their parents.\u00a0 If one of those children is infected, it\u2019s not typically the situation that they are together.\u00a0 It\u2019s a tragedy that can be prevented.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I called my husband\u2014\u00a0 (Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u201cBabe?\u201d\u00a0 (Laughter)\u00a0 So, while we were in the hospital with Selah\u2014she had a hemoglobin level of 4.\u00a0 You can\u2019t even get on an airplane unless you\u2019re an 8 or a 9; and even then it\u2019s low.\u00a0 So the only way to help her would have been if I was a match for her blood.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 And, lo and behold, I was a match for Selah.\u00a0 I was able to give her my blood, and get her on an airplane, and get her to the University of Chicago Hospital where they just whipped her back into shape.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Wow.\u00a0 Amazing!\u00a0 And then you went back and got the brother and sister. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Two years\u2014it took two years.\u00a0 One week before my son turned 18\u2014which, at the embassy, they cannot come after they turn 18\u2014one week before, we had a successful embassy appointment.\u00a0 We went back to the airport and brought our very healthy and robust Selah to meet with her brother and sister who never thought they\u2019d see her again.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Amazing!\u00a0 (Applause)\u00a0 I\u2019m looking at the clock, and there\u2019s one last question I have to ask you.\u00a0 Now you have 13.\u00a0 Then, the God of all surprises\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes!\u00a0 The phone call was something like, \u201cBabe?\u201d\u00a0 (Laughter)\u00a0 \u201cSo, what would you do if God said, \u2018I want you to adopt again\u2019?\u201d\u00a0 By now, he knows better.\u00a0 So he said, \u201cWell, of course, I would never say, \u2018No\u2019 to God.\u201d\u00a0 We know what comes out of this\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019d say, \u201cPut Him on the line and let me talk to Him!\u201d\u00a0 (Laughter)\u00a0 I want to go direct with Him on this one!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 But this time, it was a little more like, \u201cSo what do you think about a little Downs Syndrome?\u201d\u00a0 Miracle after miracle happened, and we found out about our baby four weeks prior.\u00a0 On Easter Sunday, our baby arrived.\u00a0 On Monday, we had court and we have 14 amazing, amazing children; and a little Sophia Hope who has rocked my world!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Has your husband canceled your cell phone service or anything?\u00a0 (Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Carolyn, I\u2019m looking at James 1:27, which could be the theme verse of the Summit here.\u00a0 It says, \u201cReligion that is pure and undefiled before God is this:\u00a0 to visit orphans and widows in their affliction and to keep oneself unstained from the world.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou\u2019ve really demonstrated, I believe, what the Gospel is all about.\u00a0 Jesus Christ paid an enormous price to adopt us.\u00a0 I think a lot of people expect adoption to be easy, a noble thing.\u00a0 It involves challenges, faith, perseverance, confronting fears, and courage.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tCarolyn mentioned that in five years, they\u2019ve only been able to tell their story in one church.\u00a0 The church is not expressing interest in, I think, adopting children who have HIV\/AIDS.\u00a0 I think it\u2019s because we don\u2019t know what to do.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m grateful for Project HOPEFUL, which you\u2019re giving leadership to and communicating to the Christian community the truth about the disease and how it can be managed and how the church can embrace those who have AIDS.\u00a0 You really are a hero of the faith, and I\u2019ve got a feeling there\u2019ll be a few churches calling.\u00a0 (Applause)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tGod bless you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Thank you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(Studio):\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You know, it\u2019s obvious that God has given Carolyn a heart for needy kids, for the orphan.\u00a0 Honestly, God\u2019s called all of us to have a heart for children in need.\u00a0 The Bible talks pretty clearly about that.\u00a0 That doesn\u2019t mean that everybody\u2019s going to adopt, but it does mean that we should all be asking, \u201cWhat can we do?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tComing up in November, FamilyLife\u2019s Hope for Orphans is helping to sponsor the annual \u201cCry of the Orphan\u201d campaign to draw awareness to the need and to urge churches to be involved in helping to meet the needs of orphans all around the world.\u00a0 If you go to FamilyLifeToday.com, there\u2019s information available there about how your church can participate in this year\u2019s \u201cCry of the Orphan\u201d campaign.\u00a0 There\u2019s a DVD that\u2019s available that features the author of the book <em>Bonhoeffer,<\/em> Eric Metaxas, as the special guest.\u00a0 The DVD is something that you could play in a church or a Sunday school or a small group.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThere\u2019s more information on how you can participate in this year\u2019s \u201cCry of the Orphan\u201d campaign.\u00a0 Again, go to FamilyLifeToday.com for more information on how to participate;
