you have a daughter who is hearing what you\u2019re saying about what it means to be a godly young woman, but she just isn\u2019t embracing it, what do you do as a parent?\u00a0 Here\u2019s author and speaker Susan Hunt:\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 My first word would be to pray and pray.\u00a0 Not just for God to change her behavior.\u00a0 Pray for the power of the gospel deep in her heart and in your own heart.\u00a0 Ask the Lord to increase your hope that He is going to work in that child\u2019s life, in His time and in His way.\u00a0 The hope of the gospel is what we hold out.\u00a0 We never give up hope.\u00a0 Our hope is in the Lord Jesus.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0This is <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> for guest this week.\u00a0 I remember the first time Susan Hunt was with us on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> and I think we talked about Titus 2 mentoring the first time you came.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, we did.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And we talked about. . . \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think if you slit her wrists, she would hemorrhage. . .\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Titus 2.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Titus 2!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 We talked about your home being a place of grace one time.\u00a0 We talked about the book that you wrote for kids, which I <em>love.<\/em><em>\u00a0 <\/em>You and \u2013 is it your son?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Our son.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You wrote a book for kids called <em>Big Truths for Little Kids<\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<em>\u00a0<\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Little kids.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 It\u2019s a wonderful story book that builds basic Bible truth into the hearts of young kids.\u00a0 Every time we\u2019re together \u2013 in fact, you were talking earlier about your granddaughters wanting to bring their friends over to your house.\u00a0 When I\u2019m in Atlanta, I want to come over to your house. . . \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh, please do.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> . . . and just hang out.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 I love that!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I do; I just love being around our guest.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, welcome back, Susan.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Thank you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 It really is good to have you.\u00a0 Susan Hunt, in case you don\u2019t know what Titus 2 is talking about, is <em>all about<\/em> older women mentoring younger women.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 There\u2019s a little bit in there about older men mentoring younger men, too.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 There is, there is.\u00a0 But primarily what Susan has given her life to is equipping the mentors and actually mentoring them so they can better empower younger women.\u00a0 This occurs at all ages.\u00a0 You\u2019re talking about some mentors being as young as 20, 25.\u00a0 Right, Susan?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Even younger.\u00a0 I really think we need to give our high school girls a vision of their responsibility to pre-teen girls and to little girls.\u00a0 Because Titus 2 doesn\u2019t give us an age, and I think it\u2019s about all women.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think you\u2019re right, and I think the smart youth pastor at the local church doesn\u2019t just figure out, \u201cHow can I put on the next program that\u2019s going to be exciting for kids?\u201d\u00a0 I mean, that\u2019s good.\u00a0 It\u2019s good to have the retreats and the fun nights and all of that, but I would take those senior high kids and I would start training them and involving them in the children\u2019s ministry once a month or something so that it\u2019s part of the natural flow of their lives.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think they come alive with the responsibility of teaching and discipling younger kids.\u00a0 When they have to bear that responsibility, first of all they have to learn \u2013 you know the best learner is the one who has to prepare to teach.\u00a0 But, then, when they get to interact with those kids and see those kids respond, something clicks in their life that ignites a passion in them.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 It really does. This is so biblical.\u00a0 We are a family.\u00a0 We are the family of God.\u00a0 The church should look like a family.\u00a0 So often we isolate our teenagers away from the family.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 One of the things we do in the leader guide for this material is to give example after example after example of ways to do that:\u00a0 how to get the girls involved in the lives of younger girls; how to get them praying for the younger girls; how to get them to begin to cultivate relationships with older women.\u00a0 For example, interview questions for them to go and interview some older women.\u00a0 Just many different ways that they can get involved in those relationships.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Your great passion is to see women at every age understand what it means to be a pillar, right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And that\u2019s from Psalm 144?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Psalm 144:12, \u201cOur daughters will be like pillars, carved to adorn a palace.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And you had a living illustration of that with your granddaughter not long ago.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 I did.\u00a0 We love to take our grandchildren on a trip to Washington, D.C. just to see the historical sites.\u00a0 And so we had taken our granddaughter, Mary Kate, and we were in the Capitol Building doing the tour.\u00a0 We went first of all to the main floor, and you see the magnificent rotunda.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen they took us down to the basement, and the guide pointed out one area and said, \u201cThis is the very center of this building.\u00a0 It is the center of Washington, D.C.\u201d\u00a0 But as she was telling us about it, I saw something very different.\u00a0 I took Mary Kate\u2019s hand and I pulled her back and said, \u201cTell me what you see.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWell, around that spot \u2013 that center spot \u2013 there are two circles of <em>huge <\/em>pillars, supporting pillars.\u00a0 Mary Kate grinned at me and she said, \u201cOur daughters will be like pillars, carved to adorn a palace.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I wonder where she had heard that?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 I just wonder!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tShe is well indoctrinated.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut I pointed it out to her, and I said, \u201cMary Kate, never forget this picture.\u00a0 Think about that rotunda.\u00a0 Then think about the fact that if these unseen pillars begin to weaken, this entire structure is in jeopardy.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think that\u2019s the picture that we need to have of the family, of the church, and of culture.\u00a0 If our women begin to weaken, everything is in jeopardy.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 There is no question women are powerful in a culture, and in a nation\u2019s life.\u00a0 If they don\u2019t perform their function and be godly women, that nation will be weakened.\u00a0 That\u2019s what I fear is happening today.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe don\u2019t really have a call to, first of all, beginning with the older women, reach down to younger ladies and disciple them and mentor them and build into their lives.\u00a0 So, as a result, you\u2019ve got a group of younger ladies who are being barraged by the culture, as you said earlier.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThey\u2019re not hearing a godly voice that\u2019s carving into their soul what biblical womanhood really looks like.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 And I think that the language that Scripture gives us of the life-giver \u2013 Eve, meaning life-giver \u2013 is such graphic language.\u00a0 It just immediately brings to your mind the pictures of being a life-giver in a relationship or sucking the life out of a relationship.\u00a0 That\u2019s what self-centeredness does.\u00a0 It sucks the life out of the relationships around us.\u00a0 It\u2019s the relationships that are then the builders of families, and of churches, and of nations. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe have such a wonderful message to give our girls.\u00a0 We have a wonderful gospel to give.\u00a0 The gospel is life-giving!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Susan, I was with a group of high school girls a number of years ago.\u00a0 These were girls in the 11<sup>th<\/sup> grade \u2013 girls and guys.\u00a0 I was asking them what their vision was for the future.\u00a0 \u201cWhat do you see yourself doing in, I don\u2019t know, ten years?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt was interesting as we went around the room, almost every girl in the room \u2013 I think every girl in the room \u2013 when she was asked that question defined her vision for her future in vocational terms.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Hmmm.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 She was talking about what she wanted to study at college and what kind of a career she was hoping for.\u00a0 I walked away thinking nobody was, at least in the context of that group, willing to say, \u201cI hope that I am married and maybe have a child.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen I remember talking to two college professors who teach Home Ec at college, which is kind of a lost art for college students.\u00a0 I said, \u201cHow many Home Ec majors do you have?\u201d\u00a0 They said, \u201cNot many, but we always have the freshmen girls over to our house for a tea and to get to know them.\u201d\u00a0 They said, \u201cWe ask the girls the same question.\u00a0 We ask them, \u2018What do you see yourself doing in ten years?\u2019\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThey said almost all of the girls in this Christian college were saying, \u201cWell, we would hope to be married and have kids.\u201d\u00a0 Then they asked, \u201cWhy aren\u2019t you a Home Ec major?\u201d\u00a0 One of them said, \u201cMy dad said, \u2018I\u2019m not going to spend $80,000 for an education for you to learn how to be a wife and a homemaker.\u00a0 You\u2019re going to learn a marketable skill if I\u2019m going to invest that kind of money.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou really look at this culture, and we have devalued the pillar role that women play in a society.\u00a0 I\u2019m not here to say that you can\u2019t have any life outside of the home, but we\u2019ve devalued the essentialness of those home relationships.\u00a0 Being a wife, being a mom, being a godly influence in your family.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 We really have and I think, too, that when we do talk about it, too often we talk about it in behavioral terms rather than in heart terms and seeing the heart of the issue.\u00a0 What it really comes back to, and with this material what we keep bringing the girls back to in everything is, \u201cOur purpose is to glorify God.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat is the essentialness of being a pillar.\u00a0 How do we glorify God by extending His kingdom?\u00a0 And we do that as our various functions harmonize together.\u00a0 For the women, whether it\u2019s in the workplace or in the church or in the home, we do bring a unique ability to be life-givers in these relationships.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You talk about a woman leaving a legacy by being a daughter, a sister, a neighbor, a wife, a mother, and a pilgrim.\u00a0 There are six relationships that God gives most women, not all.\u00a0 Most women will go through life in nearly all of those six.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Actually, in all six, because we don\u2019t limit it to, for example, being a biological mother, but also a spiritual mother.\u00a0 Every woman has the capacity to nurture other women.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 When you talk about a woman being a daughter, you really define her legacy around a single word, and the word is gratitude.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You say that what\u2019s at the heart of being a daughter \u2013 and, again, it\u2019s the daughter of a biological mother, but also a daughter of God \u2013 that daughterness ought to be characterized by gratitude.\u00a0 Unpack that a little bit for us.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, that\u2019s the relationship where we begin, because it\u2019s talking about being a daughter of the King.\u00a0 As our girls understand that they are God\u2019s daughter and that the response to that should be gratitude, it also determines how they respond as a daughter to their mothers and to older women in the church.\u00a0 It is a response of humble gratitude, which means a teachable spirit to learn from these older women in our lives.\u00a0 Whether it\u2019s our biological mother or our spiritual mothers, it all goes back to that relationship with the Lord.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Barbara wrote a book on gratitude.\u00a0 She just thinks that we need to be heightening this theme in all of our families.\u00a0 It\u2019s one of the most important character qualities, not only at Thanksgiving.\u00a0 It ought to be true of every young lady as she grows up, but the nature of the teenage years is <em>not <\/em>gratitude.\u00a0 They have to be trained.\u00a0 Back to the illustration you use of carving a pillar.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 We all have an entitlement mentality.\u00a0 Just our sinfulness bends us in that direction.\u00a0 Our teenagers today think they deserve a car at 16.\u00a0 So we have to help them look through all of that and to really help them see the power of the gospel \u2013 to see themselves in light of a glorious, majestic God Who has stepped into our world, Who has come to live among us and to redeem us.\u00a0 Until we get that straight, there\u2019s not that humility, there\u2019s not that gratitude.\u00a0 And that\u2019s really the starting point.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 In the same way that being a daughter should inspire a heart of gratitude, you talk about the relationship of being a sister.\u00a0 Once again, this can be a biological sister or sisters in Christ.\u00a0 That should inspire a response of unity.\u00a0 Of course, I\u2019m thinking of sibling rivalry which is the opposite of unity and that can happen in a family or a church.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHow do we help impress the idea of unity being a character quality of sisters in Christ?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Again we\u2019ve got to start with the biblical principle.\u00a0 We have to teach them Scripture.\u00a0 So with each principle that we have here, we start back with what does Scripture teach us about this?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHere, we\u2019re really talking about our adoption into God\u2019s family.\u00a0 The more that they understand that we, who were strangers and aliens, have been adopted into the family of the King, and that our unity is not just because it\u2019s a nice thing to be nice to each other.\u00a0 It\u2019s not \u201cchange your attitude and love your sister,\u201d but this is a gospel grace.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo we teach them to go to the cross and pray, \u201cLord, I\u2019m really annoyed with my little sister right now.\u00a0 Give me grace to love her.\u00a0 I\u2019m really annoyed with that girl in the youth group.\u00a0 Give me the grace to love her.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo we teach them that and the more they understand and the more they begin to see God actually doing that in their heart, they become excited about the process.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 If we separate that from the cross and from the gospel, and just say, \u201cGod wants you to be nice to your sister or to the other girl in the youth group,\u201d what happens to the girl who pursues that apart from understanding the gospel?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 She becomes very tired.\u00a0 It is absolutely exhausting through self-effort to try to live in line with the gospel.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Or she becomes very frustrated and bitter and rebellious.\u00a0 So we\u2019ve just got to continually take them back to the gospel.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And if she achieves, she becomes self-righteous.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh, absolutely, and very judgmental.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I want to go to that rebellious daughter for a moment, because there are moms, and for that matter, dads, who are listening right now who would say, \u201cYou know, Susan, I would love to have this kind of mentoring relationship with my daughter, but she\u2019s really angry; she\u2019s really pushing back and doesn\u2019t like my authority and doesn\u2019t want to have anything to do with me.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tGive that young mom some hope as she encounters that kind of a rebellious spirit in her daughter.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Our hope is in the Lord Jesus, so my first word to her would be to pray and pray and know that this is God\u2019s instrument to refine you and to build up your faith and draw you closer to Himself.\u00a0 Also, remember that He loves that child even more than you do.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tPray, not just for God to change her behavior.\u00a0 Pray for the power of the gospel deep in her heart and in your own heart.\u00a0 Ask the Lord to increase your hope that He is going to work in that child\u2019s life in His time and in His way.\u00a0 We never give up hope.\u00a0 The hope of the gospel is what we hold out.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I just cannot overstate the importance of prayer.\u00a0 Then I would also pray specifically that God will bring people into her life to speak truth to her.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 She may not be hearing me right now, but maybe there will be others.\u00a0 So pray that God will bring them into her life and that He will prepare her heart for them.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I would agree with the emphasis on prayer.\u00a0 I think there may be opportunities in the midst of dealing with a rebellious child where you may want to go to either an older sibling or a friend who does have that relationship that you\u2019re talking about.\u00a0 Go to them and say, \u201cWould you seek my daughter out?\u00a0 Would you befriend her and interact with her and, in a non-judgmental way, call her back to obedience to Jesus Christ?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThere may be some older daughters in your family that you can deploy in the battle.\u00a0 You get on your knees and let them do the hard work of battling for your child\u2019s soul.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, and then the Scriptures say you are not to return evil for evil.\u00a0 So when that daughter is angry or shouting, you don\u2019t return evil for evil.\u00a0 Instead, it says, you bless.\u00a0 That is so counterintuitive \u2013 to show mercy, grace, love to somebody who is battling against you \u2013 but the giving of a blessing is a part of what God can often use to soften the heart of a rebel.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And if you do make an error and yell back \u2013 moms can do that, you know?\u00a0 If you do that, seek forgiveness from God first, and then go to your daughter and say, \u201cForgive me.\u201d\u00a0 It may be that God would use your own humility and your own broken and contrite spirit to reach out to your daughter.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat we\u2019ve been talking about today is the assignment that I believe God gives all women.\u00a0 I think every woman ought to have a mentor.\u00a0 I think every woman ought to be a mentor.\u00a0 So the question is, \u201cWho is your mentor?\u201d and \u201cWho is your mentee?\u00a0 Who are you training?\u00a0 Who are you building into?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tFor a lot of the moms who are listening to us today, their daughters and their sons are who they are mentoring right now.\u00a0 But there may be a season of life where there\u2019s capacity added back to your schedule and you can begin the process of building into a young lady\u2019s life that you have a good relationship with.\u00a0 Don\u2019t miss that assignment because I personally think today one of the big problems with teenagers, especially teenaged young ladies is that we are not challenging them with a big enough vision and mission for their lives.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh, I agree.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 The gospel of Jesus Christ is the ultimate vision and mission\u2014to live for Him, to obey Him and proclaim Him in their generation.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 We talk a lot about the fact that a pond that\u2019s not fed by some water source and doesn\u2019t have some flow through \u2013 that pond gets stagnant.\u00a0 It just gets yucky!\u00a0 But if something\u2019s pouring in and if something\u2019s pouring out, then that pond stays fresh.\u00a0 That\u2019s what our lives need to be.\u00a0 We need to be drinking in from one place and pouring out somewhere else in order for our lives to be fresh and healthy.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat you\u2019ve done, Susan, is to give older women tools that they can use so that they can be pouring out of their own life experience, but also pouring out from what the Scriptures say as they engage with younger It\u2019s a wonderful story book that builds basic Bible truth into the hearts of young kids.\u00a0 Every time we\u2019re together \u2013 in fact, you were talking earlier about your granddaughters wanting to bring their friends over to your house.\u00a0 When I\u2019m in Atlanta, I want to come over to your house. . . \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh, please do.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> . . . and just hang out.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Hunt, in case you don\u2019t know what Titus 2 is talking about, is <em>all about<\/em> older women mentoring younger women.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 There\u2019s a little bit in there about older men mentoring younger men, too.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 There is, there is.\u00a0 But primarily what Susan has given her life to is equipping the mentors and actually mentoring them so they can better empower younger women.\u00a0 This occurs at all ages.\u00a0 You\u2019re talking about some mentors being as young as 20, 25.\u00a0 Right, Susan?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Even younger.\u00a0 I really think we need to give our high school girls a vision of their responsibility to pre-teen girls and to little girls.\u00a0 Because Titus 2 doesn\u2019t give us an age, and I think it\u2019s about all women.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think you\u2019re right, and I think the smart youth pastor at the local church doesn\u2019t just figure out, \u201cHow can I put on the next program that\u2019s going to be exciting for kids?\u201d\u00a0 I mean, that\u2019s good.\u00a0 It\u2019s good to have the retreats and the fun nights and all of that, but I would take those senior high kids and I would start training them and involving them in the children\u2019s ministry once a month or something so that it\u2019s part of the natural flow of their lives.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think they come alive with the responsibility of teaching and discipling younger kids.\u00a0 When they have to bear that responsibility, first of all they have to learn \u2013 you know the best learner is the one who has to prepare to teach.\u00a0 But, then, when they get to interact with those kids and see those kids respond, something clicks in their life that ignites a passion in them.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 It really does. This is so biblical.\u00a0 We are a family.\u00a0 We are the family of God.\u00a0 The church should look like a family.\u00a0 So often we isolate our teenagers away from the family.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 One of the things we do in the leader guide for this material is to give example after example after example of ways to do that:\u00a0 how to get the girls involved in the lives of younger girls; how to get them praying for the younger girls; how to get them to begin to cultivate relationships with older women.\u00a0 For example, interview questions for them to go and interview some older women.\u00a0 Just many different ways that they can get involved in those relationships.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Your great passion is to see women at every age understand what it means to be a pillar, right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And that\u2019s from Psalm 144?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Psalm 144:12, \u201cOur daughters will be like pillars, carved to adorn a palace.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And you had a living illustration of that with your granddaughter not long ago.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 I did.\u00a0 We love to take our grandchildren on a trip to Washington, D.C. just to see the historical sites.\u00a0 And so we had taken our granddaughter, Mary Kate, and we were in the Capitol Building doing the tour.\u00a0 We went first of all to the main floor, and you see the magnificent rotunda.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen they took us down to the basement, and the guide pointed out one area and said, \u201cThis is the very center of this building.\u00a0 It is the center of Washington, D.C.\u201d\u00a0 But as she was telling us about it, I saw something very different.\u00a0 I took Mary Kate\u2019s hand and I pulled her back and said, \u201cTell me what you see.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWell, around that spot \u2013 that center spot \u2013 there are two circles of <em>huge <\/em>pillars, supporting pillars.\u00a0 Mary Kate grinned at me and she said, \u201cOur daughters will be like pillars, carved to adorn a palace.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I wonder where she had heard that?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 I just wonder!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tShe is well indoctrinated.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut I pointed it out to her, and I said, \u201cMary Kate, never forget this picture.\u00a0 Think about that rotunda.\u00a0 Then think about the fact that if these unseen pillars begin to weaken, this entire structure is in jeopardy.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think that\u2019s the picture that we need to have of the family, of the church, and of culture.\u00a0 If our women begin to weaken, everything is in jeopardy.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 There is no question women are powerful in a culture, and in a nation\u2019s life.\u00a0 If they don\u2019t perform their function and be godly women, that nation will be weakened.\u00a0 That\u2019s what I fear is happening today.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe don\u2019t really have a call to, first of all, beginning with the older women, reach down to younger ladies and disciple them and mentor them and build into their lives.\u00a0 So, as a result, you\u2019ve got a group of younger ladies who are being barraged by the culture, as you said earlier.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThey\u2019re not hearing a godly voice that\u2019s carving into their soul what biblical womanhood really looks like.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 And I think that the language that Scripture gives us of the life-giver \u2013 Eve, meaning life-giver \u2013 is such graphic language.\u00a0 It just immediately brings to your mind the pictures of being a life-giver in a relationship or sucking the life out of a relationship.\u00a0 That\u2019s what self-centeredness does.\u00a0 It sucks the life out of the relationships around us.\u00a0 It\u2019s the relationships that are then the builders of families, and of churches, and of nations. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe have such a wonderful message to give our girls.\u00a0 We have a wonderful gospel to give.\u00a0 The gospel is life-giving!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Susan, I was with a group of high school girls a number of years ago.\u00a0 These were girls in the 11<sup>th<\/sup> grade \u2013 girls and guys.\u00a0 I was asking them what their vision was for the future.\u00a0 \u201cWhat do you see yourself doing in, I don\u2019t know, ten years?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt was interesting as we went around the room, almost every girl in the room \u2013 I think every girl in the room \u2013 when she was asked that question defined her vision for her future in vocational terms.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Hmmm.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 She was talking about what she wanted to study at college and what kind of a career she was hoping for.\u00a0 I walked away thinking nobody was, at least in the context of that group, willing to say, \u201cI hope that I am married and maybe have a child.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen I remember talking to two college professors who teach Home Ec at college, which is kind of a lost art for college students.\u00a0 I said, \u201cHow many Home Ec majors do you have?\u201d\u00a0 They said, \u201cNot many, but we always have the freshmen girls over to our house for a tea and to get to know them.\u201d\u00a0 They said, \u201cWe ask the girls the same question.\u00a0 We ask them, \u2018What do you see yourself doing in ten years?\u2019\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThey said almost all of the girls in this Christian college were saying, \u201cWell, we would hope to be married and have kids.\u201d\u00a0 Then they asked, \u201cWhy aren\u2019t you a Home Ec major?\u201d\u00a0 One of them said, \u201cMy dad said, \u2018I\u2019m not going to spend $80,000 for an education for you to learn how to be a wife and a homemaker.\u00a0 You\u2019re going to learn a marketable skill if I\u2019m going to invest that kind of money.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou really look at this culture, and we have devalued the pillar role that women play in a society.\u00a0 I\u2019m not here to say that you can\u2019t have any life outside of the home, but we\u2019ve devalued the essentialness of those home relationships.\u00a0 Being a wife, being a mom, being a godly influence in your family.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 We really have and I think, too, that when we do talk about it, too often we talk about it in behavioral terms rather than in heart terms and seeing the heart of the issue.\u00a0 What it really comes back to, and with this material what we keep bringing the girls back to in everything is, \u201cOur purpose is to glorify God.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat is the essentialness of being a pillar.\u00a0 How do we glorify God by extending His kingdom?\u00a0 And we do that as our various functions harmonize together.\u00a0 For the women, whether it\u2019s in the workplace or in the church or in the home, we do bring a unique ability to be life-givers in these relationships.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You talk about a woman leaving a legacy by being a daughter, a sister, a neighbor, a wife, a mother, and a pilgrim.\u00a0 There are six relationships that God gives most women, not all.\u00a0 Most women will go through life in nearly all of those six.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Actually, in all six, because we don\u2019t limit it to, for example, being a biological mother, but also a spiritual mother.\u00a0 Every woman has the capacity to nurture other women.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 When you talk about a woman being a daughter, you really define her legacy around a single word, and the word is gratitude.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You say that what\u2019s at the heart of being a daughter \u2013 and, again, it\u2019s the daughter of a biological mother, but also a daughter of God \u2013 that daughterness ought to be characterized by gratitude.\u00a0 Unpack that a little bit for us.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, that\u2019s the relationship where we begin, because it\u2019s talking about being a daughter of the King.\u00a0 As our girls understand that they are God\u2019s daughter and that the response to that should be gratitude, it also determines how they respond as a daughter to their mothers and to older women in the church.\u00a0 It is a response of humble gratitude, which means a teachable spirit to learn from these older women in our lives.\u00a0 Whether it\u2019s our biological mother or our spiritual mothers, it all goes back to that relationship with the Lord.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Barbara wrote a book on gratitude.\u00a0 She just thinks that we need to be heightening this theme in all of our families.\u00a0 It\u2019s one of the most important character qualities, not only at Thanksgiving.\u00a0 It ought to be true of every young lady as she grows up, but the nature of the teenage years is <em>not <\/em>gratitude.\u00a0 They have to be trained.\u00a0 Back to the illustration you use of carving a pillar.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 We all have an entitlement mentality.\u00a0 Just our sinfulness bends us in that direction.\u00a0 Our teenagers today think they deserve a car at 16.\u00a0 So we have to help them look through all of that and to really help them see the power of the gospel \u2013 to see themselves in light of a glorious, majestic God Who has stepped into our world, Who has come to live among us and to redeem us.\u00a0 Until we get that straight, there\u2019s not that humility, there\u2019s not that gratitude.\u00a0 And that\u2019s really the starting point.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 In the same way that being a daughter should inspire a heart of gratitude, you talk about the relationship of being a sister.\u00a0 Once again, this can be a biological sister or sisters in Christ.\u00a0 That should inspire a response of unity.\u00a0 Of course, I\u2019m thinking of sibling rivalry which is the opposite of unity and that can happen in a family or a church.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHow do we help impress the idea of unity being a character quality of sisters in Christ?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Again we\u2019ve got to start with the biblical principle.\u00a0 We have to teach them Scripture.\u00a0 So with each principle that we have here, we start back with what does Scripture teach us about this?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHere, we\u2019re really talking about our adoption into God\u2019s family.\u00a0 The more that they understand that we, who were strangers and aliens, have been adopted into the family of the King, and that our unity is not just because it\u2019s a nice thing to be nice to each other.\u00a0 It\u2019s not \u201cchange your attitude and love your sister,\u201d but this is a gospel grace.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo we teach them to go to the cross and pray, \u201cLord, I\u2019m really annoyed with my little sister right now.\u00a0 Give me grace to love her.\u00a0 I\u2019m really annoyed with that girl in the youth group.\u00a0 Give me the grace to love her.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo we teach them that and the more they understand and the more they begin to see God actually doing that in their heart, they become excited about the process.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 If we separate that from the cross and from the gospel, and just say, \u201cGod wants you to be nice to your sister or to the other girl in the youth group,\u201d what happens to the girl who pursues that apart from understanding the gospel?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 She becomes very tired.\u00a0 It is absolutely exhausting through self-effort to try to live in line with the gospel.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Or she becomes very frustrated and bitter and rebellious.\u00a0 So we\u2019ve just got to continually take them back to the gospel.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And if she achieves, she becomes self-righteous.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh, absolutely, and very judgmental.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I want to go to that rebellious daughter for a moment, because there are moms, and for that matter, dads, who are listening right now who would say, \u201cYou know, Susan, I would love to have this kind of mentoring relationship with my daughter, but she\u2019s really angry; she\u2019s really pushing back and doesn\u2019t like my authority and doesn\u2019t want to have anything to do with me.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tGive that young mom some hope as she encounters that kind of a rebellious spirit in her daughter.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Our hope is in the Lord Jesus, so my first word to her would be to pray and pray and know that this is God\u2019s instrument to refine you and to build up your faith and draw you closer to Himself.\u00a0 Also, remember that He loves that child even more than you do.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tPray, not just for God to change her behavior.\u00a0 Pray for the power of the gospel deep in her heart and in your own heart.\u00a0 Ask the Lord to increase your hope that He is going to work in that child\u2019s life in His time and in His way.\u00a0 We never give up hope.\u00a0 The hope of the gospel is what we hold out.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I just cannot overstate the importance of prayer.\u00a0 Then I would also pray specifically that God will bring people into her life to speak truth to her.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 She may not be hearing me right now, but maybe there will be others.\u00a0 So pray that God will bring them into her life and that He will prepare her heart for them.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I would agree with the emphasis on prayer.\u00a0 I think there may be opportunities in the midst of dealing with a rebellious child where you may want to go to either an older sibling or a friend who does have that relationship that you\u2019re talking about.\u00a0 Go to them and say, \u201cWould you seek my daughter out?\u00a0 Would you befriend her and interact with her and, in a non-judgmental way, call her back to obedience to Jesus Christ?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThere may be some older daughters in your family that you can deploy in the battle.\u00a0 You get on your knees and let them do the hard work of battling for your child\u2019s soul.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, and then the Scriptures say you are not to return evil for evil.\u00a0 So when that daughter is angry or shouting, you don\u2019t return evil for evil.\u00a0 Instead, it says, you bless.\u00a0 That is so counterintuitive \u2013 to show mercy, grace, love to somebody who is battling against you \u2013 but the giving of a blessing is a part of what God can often use to soften the heart of a rebel.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And if you do make an error and yell back \u2013 moms can do that, you know?\u00a0 If you do that, seek forgiveness from God first, and then go to your daughter and say, \u201cForgive me.\u201d\u00a0 It may be that God would use your own humility and your own broken and contrite spirit to reach out to your daughter.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat we\u2019ve been talking about today is the assignment that I believe God gives all women.\u00a0 I think every woman ought to have a mentor.\u00a0 I think every woman ought to be a mentor.\u00a0 So the question is, \u201cWho is your mentor?\u201d and \u201cWho is your mentee?\u00a0 Who are you training?\u00a0 Who are you building into?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tFor a lot of the moms who are listening to us today, their daughters and their sons are who they are mentoring right now.\u00a0 But there may be a season of life where there\u2019s capacity added back to your schedule and you can begin the process of building into a young lady\u2019s life that you have a good relationship with.\u00a0 Don\u2019t miss that assignment because I personally think today one of the big problems with teenagers, especially teenaged young ladies is that we are not challenging them with a big enough vision and mission for their lives.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Susan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh, I agree.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 The gospel of Jesus Christ is the ultimate vision and mission\u2014to live for Him, to obey Him and proclaim Him in their generation.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 We talk a lot about the fact that a pond that\u2019s not fed by some water source and doesn\u2019t have some flow through \u2013 that pond gets stagnant.\u00a0 It just gets yucky!\u00a0 But if something\u2019s pouring in and if something\u2019s pouring out, then that pond stays fresh.\u00a0 That\u2019s what our lives need to be.\u00a0 We need to be drinking in from one place and pouring out somewhere else in order for our lives to be fresh and healthy.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat you\u2019ve done, Susan, is to give older women tools that they can use so that they can be pouring out of their own life experience, but also pouring out from what the Scriptures say as they engage with younger
